Because polls get the most engagement I’m making a poll lol
(For the sake of this poll: a collector is anyone who *currently has* a collection of things either physically or digitally that they intentionally acquired which can be grouped together)
Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase tell me what you collect and optionally why!!!! (This is doubly true if your collection is related to a regulatory/“special” interest!!!!!!! That’s honestly the only reason I’m making this poll, I am begging youuuuuuuuuuu
Neurodivergent related tags are for reach as I know a lot of neurodiverse people are collectors. I do try my best not to clutter those tags, if anyone has an issue with it please tell me and I’ll remove them
Being a game collector is so weird bc you tell your friends "hey have you seen this thing, it's one of my favorite things ever and if you want to try it you either have to hang out at my place for a week or emulate it which is always morally correct but there's like a 10% chance it won't play exactly right or buy it secondhand on ebay for $200 more than I did when I found it decaying on a gamestop shelf 15 years ago and you can only play it on the PS2 because that disc doesn't work on anything modern if it still even works at all"
but with movies it's like "hey have you seen Space Jam? It's an hour and a half, I've got it on DVD or we can rent it on five different streaming sites for like $5"
Any other autistics who love collecting things? I’ve collected things for as long as I’ve been able to pick stuff up off the ground. My collections include:
Seaglass
Shells
Trinkets
Crystals
Plush toys
Goose pottery
Clothes and shoes
Books
Notebooks
Rocks
Dead insects and specimens
Bones
Bottles and vials
Stickers
I’ll post some pictures of my hoard when I get home!
In an effort to get past my anxiety of “wasting” good art supplies, I bought myself so many sets of paper butterflies and moths from Moth & Myth, and I intend to use them all!
‘Omen’ features Death’s Head Moths
‘Open Skies’ features a variety of blue butterflies
And then in a totally different form of experimentation, I’ve made my first two 40mm d20s (I’ve dubbed them Heckin’ Chonks). The size difference compared to my 22mm and 30mm d20s is staggering. (If you’re not used to thinking about d20 size, standard is 18-20mm.)
I love them all!
If any of these dice need to come home with you, they’ll be on my site tomorrow, December 3, at 5pm EST.
So this is a really basic ass project that can be done in multiple ways, you can use what im using or theres ways to make it different and better, im just going to show how i made mine here. I made this for holding lil tiny things i find on my outings like small bones, dead bugs and things of the sort
Supplies:
- small plastic bottle of your choice, im using an orange pill bottle because thats what i have
- drill, dremel or other sharp object, if you use a knife or something without a motor, it may be wise to heat it up with a lighter first to make it easier to poke through
- string/wire/chain in any length you choose, im using hemp cord because thats what i have
Optional supplies:
- super glue, if you want the hanging mechanism to be more secure
- key ring/clip/carabiner, i include this as optional because tecnically you can do this without it, like if you wanted it as a pendant or something, i will be using a keyring clip thing because i plan to clip it to my bag
- beads or charms to decorate because that could be fun
Alright tutorial time now
1.) pop the lid off your lil bottle, put the rest to the side.
2.) prepare your drill/sharp object and make a hole in the lid, make sure said hole isnt too big !
3.) feed the string/chain/wire through the hole, tying a knot on the underside of the lid and/or supergluing it.
4.) at this point you’re essentially done when you put the lid on !
After this i just added beads and a keychain clip because i wanted to but of course you can do as you please with this
today was one of the shitty days I’ve had in 2023, but I wanted to share the light of my day with y’all.
I have been looking for Billy’s pop figure (#640) for 4 years. It’s always been super expensive online ($84+) so I’ve never been able to find it. Today, I stopped in a local bookstore with my friend and my partner, and there he was; for $35.69.
here he is! in all his beauty
I’m sorry today went so badly, but at least this one good thing came out of it.
Just added another super cool fossil to the collection! This genuine Plesiosaur tooth was found in Morocco and dates all the way back to the Cretaceous period. It’s also quite a large specimen, measuring almost 2.5” in length!
Plesiosaurs are often mistaken for dinosaurs, however these prehistoric creatures are actually part of a separate group known as "marine reptiles." They first evolved in the Triassic (208.5 MYA) and thrived until the massive KT extinction event caused by the Chicxulub asteroid. This took place at the end of the Cretaceous, and was the same extinction event that wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs (66 MYA). 💥🌊
