Penalty Box Series— Imagines Edition: Numb
request: “Can I get a blurb about sissy (y/n) smoking and coming home high and Quinn just asks why and y/n is like “I just wanted to numb the pain””
warnings: underage smoking, driving while high (implied, not explicitly said), cursing, crying, parental trauma
word count: 1.6k
General Series Masterlist
a/n i’m writing this high and major projecting so i made it a whole fic instead of a blurb :) i also cried writing sooo enjoy suffering <3
— — — — —
Smoking wasn’t all you and Cole did, but he was one of the only people you’d always be down to smoke with. He matched your high perfectly, no matter the mood. If you were chill, he was chill. If you were giggly, he would make sure you never stopped laughing.
Tonight was an exception. Tonight you were laying back in the passenger seat of his car, passing the blunt back and forth, with soft country music playing in the background. Tonight, you were trying to forget.
“I know you don’t want to right now, but you do know that you can talk to me, right?” Cole asked as he accepted the blunt from you.
“I know,” you whispered.
“And you know I can’t let you always smoke to drown out your thoughts, right?”
“I do. Are we done?”
Cole sighed, “Yeah. Yeah, I’ll stop. Jack did say he has a surprise for you at home, though. So as soon as this is out I need to take you back to my dorm to change and then home.”
You nodded and waited for the blunt to be passed back to you. You texted Jack that you’ll need to be covered for if Jim and Ellen were still awake.
You weren’t excited for whatever Jack’s surprise was going to be. He knows what tomorrow is. He knows there’s nothing that can help. But you weren’t going to blame him for trying. He always tries for you.
“Does Trevor know?” Cole asked you as you changed in his closet.
“He does,” you answered.
“Does he know how you’re reacting?” Cole urged you to open up.
“I don’t know.”
“Am I going to get anything out of you?”
You just came out and sat down in his desk chair instead of answering. Cole came over to hug you, so you wrapped your arms around his middle and leaned your head against his stomach and allowed him to stroke your hair.
“Let’s get you back to Jack. Maybe he can help more,” Cole said soft.
You stood up, but did not detach yourself from Cole’s side. Cole hugged you tight for a moment before separating so that he could drive you home.
“Drive slow,” you told him.
“I know, Y/N/N,” Cole said.
Jack was sitting on the front porch waiting for you when you arrived. He stood up when you opened the door and met you and Cole in the grass next to his car.
“You got her?” Cole asked Jack.
“I got her,” Jack nodded. “See you later, Cole. Thank you.”
“Anytime,” Cole smiled. You all bid your I love you’s and goodbyes and then Cole got back in his car to drive away.
“I got something for you,” Jack said as you walked up the stairs.
“Jacky, thank you, but some item isn’t going to change what tomorrow is,” you said sadly.
Jack paused in front of you before he opened your bedroom door, “Good thing I didn’t get you an item then.”
You weren’t looking up at first when you stepped into your room, but when you did, you saw Quinn sitting on your bed against the headboard with a worried smile on his face. Your guard was immediately dropped and tears started to slowly fall at the sight of him. You sped over to him and collapsed into his arms. He wrapped you up in his lap and hugged you tight as he tucked your face into his collarbone.
“Why’d you do this, Sissy?” Quinn whispered.
“I don’t wanna feel anything,” you croaked. “I just wanna be numb.”
If you weren’t high, you’d be sobbing your eyes out. But your mission was to get so high that you’d forget how awful tomorrow is going to be. Quinn moved you down so that your head was on his thigh. He took his hand and placed his fingers between your eyebrows, and then spread out his fingers so that his thumb and pinky were lighting carding through your eyebrows, while the other trailed up and continued to lightly massage your forehead to add to your sense of calm.
“No you don’t,” Quinn said. “You don’t want to feel that again.”
You stayed silent for a moment. Quinn was grounding you, and the reasoning as to why you got high out of your mind with Cole tonight were resurfacing.
“Why didn’t they want me?” you squeaked out through the recent tears.
You sat back up to cling onto your best friend. You tucked your head back into the crook of his neck and wrapped your arms around it. Quinn’s arms slipped around your middle to cradle your head one hand.
“I don’t know,” Quinn whispered. “But I do know that the world is saving as many people to love you as possible to make up for the love your parents didn’t give you. You’ve already had me, and Rowdy, Moose, Mom, and Dad loving you. And now, you’ve got Trevor, Cole, and Alex. You’ll have been living with us for a year tomorrow. You don’t deserve what they put your through, but you do deserve what we’ve given you. A home. A loving home. One that wouldn’t be complete without you.”
You didn’t say anything to that; you couldn’t even if you tried. You were violently sobbing into him. Quinn just rubbed you back and occasionally placed a kiss to the top of your head as you cried.
You felt the bed dip on both sides and looked up to discover that Jack and Luke had come into the room. Jack got on the other side of you, and Luke got on the other side of Quinn. Jack laid down on the pillow next to you and cuddled up close, placing a hand on your back. Luke did the same on the other side and started to run his fingers through your hair.
You cried even harder at this. The fact that they cared so much about you, when your blood family never did, it fills you with such raw emotions that you don’t know what else to do with.
You loved how much all three of them cared, but you were grateful when Quinn had them remove their hands so only he was touching you. It was becoming a little too much for you.
When your sobs died down, you heard Quinn ask, “Is it ready?”
You didn’t hear if Jack or Luke made an answer, but suddenly everyone was getting up.
“I’m not done!” you cried out.
“Sissy, I’m not leaving you, I promise,” Quinn cooed. I sent them to set up something downstairs for all of us and they finished. So come on, I’m not carrying you down the stairs.”
“Pansy,” you muttered. Quinn laughed and tossed an arm around your shoulder, “There’s my girl.”
You and Quinn followed behind his two younger brothers to the living room to see what they set up. When you turned the corner from the staircase wall to see, a giant fort had been made in the middle of the living room.
“It’s just like when we were kids,” you said in awe. “Who’s idea was this?”
“We all—“
“It was all Quinn,” Jack cut his big brother off. “Don’t be modest.”
Quinn nudged you, “That’s your queue to bully him.”
“I didn’t even know you knew that word,” you said with a soft smile with your arms still glued to Quinn’s waist. Jack sent you two a glare in response.
Quinn urged you all to go into the fort to “see what the two bozos managed to do” to which you replied, “Who the fuck says bozo anymore?”
Turns out, the bozos did amazing. Inside were endless amounts of pillows and blankets, chocolate, popcorn, and other various candies, and Jack’s unreasonably large laptop to watch a movie on.
“The Hunger Games is already pulled up,” Luke said smiling. “But we can change it to Catching Fire, if you want.”
“No, no this is perfect,” you said quietly as you admired your brothers’ work. “It’s perfect.”
You all crawled into the fort. It was much bigger than it was when you were kids, for obvious reasons. Jack and Luke went all out for it. There were small lamps in the corners for light, and somehow Jack had stolen your favorite blanket from your room without you noticing.
“You deserve this,” Quinn whispered to you. “You don’t need them. But we need you, and hopefully that’s enough.”
You put your head on his shoulder as Like pressed play on the movie and Jack made sure everyone had a blanket before two of them settled on either side of you and Quinn.
“It’s more than enough. Thank you guys, truly,” you told them.
“You know we’d do anything for you, Sissy,” Jack said. “We love you.”
“We really do,” Luke added.
“You’re always gonna be my world,” Quinn said. “And I love you so much, I skipped a quiz to be here. Just don’t tell mom that.”
“If it wasn’t for Sissy, I would,” Jack stated.
“Good thing it’s for Sissy then,” Quinn said.
“Guys, thank you, and I love you all with my whole butt because it’s bigger than my heart, but Katniss is on the screen right now and I can’t hear,” you cut them all off.
“There’s my girl,” Quinn laughed.
You uncharacteristically fell asleep halfway through the movie. You weren’t even sure who you were cuddling with at this point being caught between Jack and Quinn. But they were there, and so was Luke, and that’s all you really needed.

What are your most anticipated releases for 2024?
There are a bunch of posts coming up with the answers to that, starting tomorrow! But FWIW, my personal preorders so far have been for Just Happy to Be Here by Naomi Kanakia, Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa, The Friendship Study by Ruby Barrett, This Day Changes Everything by Edward Underhill, Icarus by K. Ancrum, Canto Contigo by Jonny Garza Villa, and The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe, and I haven't gotten to it yet (I am strategic) but also plan to preorder both Playing for Keeps and The Ride of Her Life by Jennifer Dugan (I always preorder from her local indie, Northshire Books, so I can get them signed) and Flawless Girls by Anna-Marie McLemore. I've also blurbed a few great ones I'm excited for other people to read, including The Last Love Song by Kalie Holford and Every Time You Heart That Song by Jenna Voris, which make a very lovely musical pair. There's lots more I'm excited about - The Guncle Abroad! Lavash at First Sight! The Pairing! Triple Sec! A Little Kissing Between Friends! but anyway, more on all that soon!

Here is a sneak peak at part 2 from my story. Let me know how you guys like it. I have a blurb that sort of goes along with this one, it is about the birth that I might post tomorrow
“You have a son?! That you hid from us? Hell he looks quite like Trevor so what, you deprived him of a father too?!” my twin brother was the first to step up and formally ask me what was going on, however it seemed quite accusatory.
“No. You don’t get to treat her like that Jack, you cut her off, in fact all of you cut her off. She had no one, you all chose Trevor over your own sister.” Thomas immediately jumped to my defense, he went through hell with me when I found out. He was there for me, I can never repay him for everything he did.
Thomas stood in front of me blocking my eyes from what I bet are disappointing looks from my brothers, he shifted to the left a bit however the timing was bad on my point because I looked past his shoulder and locked eyes with Trevor’s. He looked so broken, so lost, he doesn’t even seem like he knows where he is.
After pulling my eyes off of Trevor my eyes start to wander towards my oldest brother, who I feared I disappointed the most. He was who I wanted to tell first when I found out, I tried to tell him but I couldn’t get it out because I didn’t want him to hate me. Once my eyes locked with Quinn’s I wanted to break down and cry, but I couldn’t show them they had such an effect on me. Quinn didn’t look mad like Jack did, he had a different emotion spread across his face. He took some steps towards me and wrapped me in the tightest hug ever, he tucked his head in my neck and it sounded as if he was almost crying.
“I am so sorry y/n I failed you.” He whispered into my ear while his voice broke. I pulled out of the hug which I felt him tense as I did. I just stared at him waiting for him to say more.
“I should have been there for you, I now know I was told lies but that doesn’t change that no matter what I should have been there for you because you are my little sister.” Quinn’s eyes tore into me as he nearly broke down in front of me. Hearing those words from my brother means everything to me.
All while this was going on Alex and Cole just stood there awkwardly and my dad just stood there eating snacks. That man didn’t come to my defense nor any of the boys, he just let it play out like we were some movie on the screen. Him and my mom didn’t find out I was pregnant until my water broke. When I found out I cut everyone off that hadn’t already cut me off, I still talked to my parents and visited as much as I could. Thankfully my pregnancy was one of those rare ones where I barely showed. Thomas was the only one who knew, I didn’t want to cause any problems since a lot of the boys were friends with my brother and Trevor.
“y/n let’s go for a walk and we’ll come back for the first period” Thomas told me as he tugged me out of the room. Once we were out I let out the biggest breath ever, I didn’t even realize I was holding it.
To be continued…

writing about the past for the future tense, hashtag not-a-red-shirt problems
Fandom/Pairing: 12 Monkeys, Deacon/Jennifer
Length: ~5700
Deacon and Jennifer find a way to be together after the finale.
Beta’d by my best friend Kaitlyn. Title adapted from a Jennifer Goines quote. On AO3.
///
2043
It starts with a book.
The package it comes in seems innocuous enough. No return address, but Deacon’s birthday is coming up, and a gift wouldn’t be completely unexpected. There’s no card, but he figures whoever sent it will reveal themselves eventually.
“Agent Otter vs The Traveler,” he reads the title, brow furrowed as he studies the cover. It’s red with a silhouette of two men with guns facing off against each other. He rolls his eyes. It looks a little campy for his taste, almost like one of those noir novels that had been real popular, what, a century ago, though this is clearly a newly-printed book. He flips it over to read the description on the back.
Agent Cole Otter travels back in time to the year 2015, where he believes he can stop an apocalyptic plague before it kills 7 billion people. He teams up with brilliant virologist Dr. Cassie Riley who believes she can help him stop the catastrophe that’s destined to kill her, but a sinister stranger, The Traveler, seems to always be one step ahead. Can Agent Otter and Dr. Riley race time itself to save the fate of the planet?
Deacon’s brow furrows as he reads the blurb, his heart pounding wildly for a reason he can’t explain. “No, they can’t,” he murmurs to himself, knuckles white from gripping the book so tight.
His phone rings, startling him into dropping the book. He takes a deep breath and the tightness in his chest loosens; he had been holding his breath. With a shake of his head, he pulls his phone out of his back pocket and answers, but his eyes keep sliding over to the book lying on his counter. It’s a quick enough call, his brother reminding him about their appointments tomorrow for their tux fittings.. He assures him he’ll be there, says goodbye, and hangs up, breathing shakily as he continues to stare at the book.
“What the fuck,” he whispers to himself. Why is he having such a strong reaction to this book? Has he read it before? It feels strangely familiar, the premise striking fear into his heart that can’t be explained. He closes his eyes and shakes his head, a flash of a pale face and dark hair crossing his mind before he reopens them, steadfastly refusing to look in the direction of the book again.
He’s not into horror stories, and despite the blurb indicating it’s more sci-fi, he knows this story is a bloody one.
He’ll drop it off with his next box of donations.
/
He doesn’t drop it off with his next box of donations.
His junk mail piles up on top of it over the course of the next month. Deacon can’t bring himself to pick it up, even to move it, so it stays on the counter where he’d dropped it. The most he can do to forget it’s there is to cover it with other things he can afford to forget about.
He can’t forget about it though. It’s always in the back of his mind, worming his way into his thoughts whenever he’s not busy enough to hold them off. The characters’ names run in a loop through his mind: Cole Otter and Cassie Riley. There’s something about them that seems just slightly...off, though he can’t explain why, and he’s not going to pick up the book again to try to figure it out.
The mail piles up, nearly obscuring the book in its entirety, but he knows it’s still there. It’s calling to him with a soft, husky voice that sends shivers down his spine.
/
The night of his brother’s wedding, he finally picks it up again.
He’s just drunk enough that his fear of the book seems ridiculous and irrational, and the husky voice that urges him to pick it up finally wins out.
He drops onto the couch with a grunt, book gripped tightly in one hand as he loosens his bow tie and unbuttons a few buttons with the other. He spends a few minutes staring at the cover again. The first time he’d seen it, it had looked like low-budget clip art. Now though, it feels more familiar, and though he’s sure he’s never seen charcoal drawings on red paper, he somehow knows that’s exactly what this is. He lets the warmth that comes with the bone-deep recognition of the art bolster him into opening the book to the title page.
Agent Otter vs The Traveler, by J.H. Bond
He runs his fingers over the name, heart racing again, but this time in excitement instead of fear.
The dedication page is next.
D-
Slow change may pull us apart, but I won’t ever forget about you.
-J
His breath hitches and he doesn’t know why. The words seem vaguely familiar, though he can’t place them at the moment, but it’s a single letter that gets to him.
There’s no reasonable explanation for it, but he just knows the D is short for Deacon, and that the book is meant for him. He just knows it.
It’s this certainty that pushes him to turn the page and start chapter one.
/
He doesn’t put it down until ten chapters in, when Cole’s best friend from the future, José Ramos, travels back in time to prevent Cole from stopping the apocalypse, all so he can save his son’s life. Turns out, he was the titular Traveler they had been fighting against the whole time.
It should have shocked Deacon, this twist in the story where the hero’s best friend becomes the villain, but it doesn’t. He’s never read this book before, but he knew in his bones how this story was going to play out within the first few chapters. Almost as if he’d lived it before.
It’s this disturbing thought that jars Deacon back to reality. When he looks up from the book, it’s to see the early light of morning peeking through the gaps in his curtains. His eyes itch like crazy and his stomach roils. He’d not been drunk enough last night to be hungover today, but he’s certainly feeling the effects of a night of celebrating, drinking, and no sleep.
He grabs a piece of junk mail and slips it into the book to mark his place. The rest of the story can wait until he’s eaten and slept. When the husky voice in his head makes a noise of complaint, he lets out a laugh and shakes his head. “I’m not done yet. I just need some sleep,” he says as he pops some bread into the toaster, something to settle his stomach before he goes to bed.
He can very nearly hear the voice saying, “Sleep when you die, man!”
He laughs and looks up, expecting to see a pair of dark eyes in a pale face laughing back at him from across the counter. His mouth is already open, ready to reply, and he snaps it shut again, realizing the insanity of what he’s doing. He’s so tired he’s hearing voices and responding to them.
He eats his toast and falls into bed fully dressed. He’ll feel less crazy when he’s had a bit of sleep.
/
José. Cole. Cassie. Even Dr. Katherine Jones, the inventor of time travel. The characters are all familiar to him in a way he can’t explain.
There’s another character in the book, Jennifer Gaines, who calls herself ‘Primary’. She comes off as insane, but Deacon thinks she’s probably the smartest of them all. She knows things, and even though the author seems to be hinting that she’s one of the bad guys, he personally thinks she’s the least evil of them all.
She’s who he dreams about as he sleeps.
/
He steadfastly ignores the kinship he feels with the West VII gang leader Duncan, and actually kind of hopes that jackass dies sooner rather than later. It’s not like a murderous asshole like that could ever earn redemption, anyways.
/
He knew, somehow, that the entire story wasn’t going to be concluded in this one book. It ends on a cliffhanger, with Agent Otter stuck running for his life in 2015 and Dr. Riley fighting for hers in 2043. The last page reads:
Coming to you soon, Book 2 in The Serpent’s Cycle: Agent Otter vs The Messengers.
Deacon groans and rubs his forehead. He hadn’t even been interested in the story when the book had shown up, but now he’s invested. He has to know how it ends, even though something tells him it will ultimately break his heart.
“God damn it,” he mutters, pulling out his phone to see if he can find it in a local bookstore. Better yet, maybe he can get the digital copy and start reading right away.
Before he can pull up his browser, there’s a knock on his front door. Frowning, he stands up and makes his way over, wondering who would be visiting him. His brother’s leaving for his honeymoon this afternoon, and there’s really no one who would have occasion to visit him.
There’s a bored delivery man standing on his porch, holding a small package under his arm. “You Theodore William Deacon?” he asks, tone flat.
Deacon blinks. No one calls him by his first name, and he didn’t think anyone other than his brother even knew his middle name, though even he would never address anything to Deacon using his full name. His eyes narrow on the delivery man. “Who’s asking?”
The man sighs and shakes the package in front of Deacon’s face. “Look, man, I was just told to deliver this package to this house on this day at this time, and to make sure a man named Theodore William Deacon got it. Is that you or not?”
They stare each other down for another thirty seconds before Deacon nods. “Yeah, that’s me.”
“Great,” the man says, tone flat as ever. “Sign here and enjoy.”
Deacon signs and watches the man go back to his truck, making sure he leaves before he heads back inside. Frowning, he heads to the kitchen for a knife to slice open the box, wondering what it could be. Had he forgotten he ordered something? Things had been pretty hectic in the weeks leading up to the wedding. It was entirely possible he’d ordered something for here or the bar and completely forgotten he’d ordered it.
The top of the box pops open and Deacon’s eyes widen in surprise when he folds the flaps out of the way and pulls out Agent Otter vs The Messengers.
This cover is the same color as the first, only the charcoal silhouettes are of a man and a woman, Cole and Cassie he assumes, reaching for each other but separated by a line that slashes the cover in half from the bottom left to the top right corner. It’s a timeline that stretches from 1917 to 2163.
He flips open the book to the dedication page.
D-
Will you recognize me? I recognized you before I met you.
-J
Again, the words ring a familiar bell, and again, he feels they are meant for him specifically. He bites his lip and looks over at the clock. It’s early evening, but it’s his day off, and he doesn’t need to be at the bar until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.
He lays down on the couch and starts reading.
/
He leaps up with joy, throwing a triumphant fist into the air when Jennifer stabs the manipulative Olivia and shoves her into the empty pool to bleed out and die. Jennifer is easily his favorite character and his heart sings in triumph that he was right: she is the best of all of them.
/
He ignores the snakes squirming in his stomach as the author hints at an almost-relationship between Cassie and Duncan. He doesn’t know why, but he feels empathy for the gang leader, loving a woman who will never love him in return. He shouldn’t care, because Duncan’s turned soft, gentle Cassie into a hard, ruthless fighter, but he does care, and he can’t explain the shame he feels because of it.
/
When Duncan kills Jennifer from the future timeline, Deacon throws the book across the room. Tears stream down his face and his hands shake as he paces his living room, struggling to keep his breathing even.
“It didn’t happen in this timeline, you know,” whispers that familiar, husky voice from behind him. “It wasn’t real.”
She’s not real. He knows she’s not real, that she’s just a tired hallucination because once again, he’s stayed up all night reading. But he still answers aloud, without turning around. “I--” His head jerks and he exhales shakily. “He killed her,” he corrects, gritting his teeth to bite back the impossible truth that wants to burst forth: I killed you.
Because it’s a story. It didn’t actually happen. He’s not a character in this book, no matter how much he feels like he might have lived it, in another life.
He takes a deep breath and sighs, dragging his hands down his face in exhaustion. It’s time to go to sleep.
He doesn’t bother picking up the book.
/
He dreams of entering a room full of people with their hands up, eyes pleading for mercy. The weight and kick of the gun in his hands doesn’t even phase him as he shoots them all down without a second thought.
“They were good!” the husky voice says, just outside his range of sight.
He shrugs and leaves her behind. “I’m not.”
He can feel her eyes boring into his back. Distantly, he feels shame that he disappointed her.
/
He leaves the book on the floor.
It’s not like what he did with the first book, ignoring its existence because he doesn’t intend to read the rest of it, too afraid to pick it up for what it might reveal to him. No, this is a different kind of avoidance.
He’s seen the way Jennifer’s story ends, and he finds he doesn’t want to keep reading the story that will lead him to that inevitable conclusion.
“Hmm,” whispers the voice, hardly audible over the din in the bar that night. “You’re not a fan of eggs?”
/
It takes another week before he picks up the book again, and when he gets to the last page, he nearly throws it back down on the ground.
Cassie is pregnant with their enemy, the Witness, and trapped with his followers, and Jennifer has somehow landed herself in the trenches of World War I.
At least that dick Duncan is dead, stabbed to death trying to help Jennifer escape.
/
The third and fourth book arrive at the same time, in the same manner as the second, right as he’s pulling out his phone to find Agent Otter vs The Witness, the third book in the Cycle.
“Do you think it’s weird that instructions were left to bring your packages to you at very specific moments?” the delivery man asks. He pulls up his log and flips it around to show it to Deacon. “See? It not only says the date it’s to be delivered, but also the time. Isn’t that weird?”
Deacon signs for his package and shakes his head. “No,” he says slowly. “I think… things are happening exactly when they’re meant to happen.”

He doesn’t start the third book yet, just puts it and the fourth on his bedside table, ready to go for his next day off.
That night, he dreams he’s walking through a hotel lobby, carrying a briefcase with something important in it.
“Why are you doing this?” the voice whispers from behind him, horrified. “This isn’t you.”
He turns, keeping her just outside his range of sight. “It’s me. I’m exactly where I need to be.” He turns back and keeps walking for the door, whistling a song as he goes.
This time, he feels no shame, knowing his choices are ultimately keeping her safe.

It’s my feeling we’ll win in the end. Time owes us.
-J
/
It’s a good thing he waits until his next day off to start, because he reads the third book in one sitting, and then he starts on the fourth, Agent Otter vs Time.
He still feels fiercely protective of Jennifer, hoping against hope they can find a way to rewrite time so she doesn’t get killed, but the ice in his chest tells him that’s not the way time works; it always takes what it’s owed.
/
D-
I’ll put us back together at heart. Or maybe we both will. See you soon?
-J
/
He has to stop a chapter in because he’s about to fall asleep. Also because he’s reached the point where he’s begrudgingly forgiven Duncan (that man is like a cockroach; he never seems to die) for killing Jennifer, and that is something he would not do if he were in his right mind.
Clearly he needs rest.
“You shoot me,” the voice whispers that night in his dreams.
“I’m sorry,” he says, and he means it. God, does he mean it.
“You shoot me.”
“I’m apologizing!”
There’s a beat, and he can almost picture her smiling up at him. “I forgave you.”
/
He finds himself reluctant to pick the fourth book back up when he wakes the next morning. He can’t say how, but he somehow knows this is the last book, and it’s not going to end the way he wants.
Though, how can he know that when he doesn’t even know how he wants it to end?
/
“What’s that?” she asks.
“It’s my knife,” he says, eyes steady on her.
“I know, but why are you presenting it all theatrically?” Her voice quivers because she knows, but she doesn’t know, and she definitely doesn’t want to know.
“ ‘Cause I want you to take it. It’s dangerous here.” He’s trying to keep his voice steady, but there’s something in it that says he knows too.
“I don’t need it,” she says, shaking her head. Not when I’ve got you, she thinks.
“Take it,” he presses. Then, gently, “For me?”
She knows, but she doesn’t want to know. “Okay,” she says softly.
He nods, exhaling just a little unsteadily. “One day, I’m gonna want that back.” His eyes bore into hers, sending a message she doesn’t quite understand yet.
/
Deacon recognizes the conversation as he reads it. He can picture the scene perfectly in his mind. The way she’d fidgeted nervously across the table from him. The utter certainty he’d felt giving her the knife. He’d known he was running out of time to give it to her. There was no way he was going to make it to the end of this, and she still needed it to prove they were… friends for the final fight at Titan.
He knows what’s going to happen next, but he swallows against his dry throat and continues reading.
/
Dread pools in Jennifer’s stomach when he interrupts the Witness’s speech to mock her. Instead of Cole, she gestures him forward to be executed first.
Her throat closes with panic, head turning from side to side. She doesn’t want-- she can’t watch this. But she can’t look away from him either.
The Witness sneers down at him as she lets him know she was manipulating him the whole time, using him to get to their friends. “My toothless bloodhound,” she mocks. “You gave away everything you could have been. For what?”
He takes a breath and looks over at Cole, at Cassie, at Jones. “For them,” he tells her. Then he looks over at Jennifer and he nods, trying to comfort her. Letting her know he has no regrets, despite how it’s about to end for him. “And I’d do it again. This I know.”
The Witness rolls her eyes and strolls behind him, nodding to her executioner.
He locks eyes with Jennifer, breaths shallow as he waits for the sword to fall. Literally. She stares back, unblinking, eyes filled with tears. “No, no,” she can’t stop herself from murmuring, eyes spilling over. He watches her eyes widen, hears the sound of metal parting the air, and--
/
“What the fuck!” Deacon yells, wiping the tears off his face as he leaps up, flipping quickly through the rest of the pages.
They’re all blank.
“What happened next? What the fuck!” he says again, pacing around his living room as he flips through the pages again, more slowly, as if they won’t still be blank. “Piece of shit, defective copy!” He tosses it on the table with a growl and picks up his tablet.
Furious, he opens a browser and searches for the book. One way or another, he’s finding out what happened to his friends, to Jennifer, tonight.
Only, when he searches for the book, he can’t find it anywhere. His brow creases as he searches for the series title, the author, each individual book, and nothing pops up. It’s as if the story doesn’t exist.
“No, no,” he says quietly, and he can see Jennifer in his mind, perfectly picture her saying the same thing in the moments before she watched him die. He needs to find a copy of this damn book so he can make sure… so he knows she made it out of 1491 alive.
“Oh, but you already know how I died,” her voice whispers in his mind. “You were instrumental in that event.”
Deacon scowls and steadfastly ignores her, nearly growling when he just hears the echo of her laugh.
When more searches turn up more of nothing, he picks up the book again, opening it back up to the last scene. He turns every individual page, one at a time, running his fingers carefully down each one, looking for answers, heart sinking lower every time he fails to find anything.
And then he gets to the final page. The text is small, much smaller than the book’s normal font, and printed in a lighter ink, but it’s something.
Thanks for participating in The Serpent’s Cycle! For more information, please visit my webpage at primaryloveinterestnotaredshirt.com! I look forward to seeing you again!
His lips curl up and he shakes his head as he types the website into his browser. His heart races while he waits for it to load, then stops when he sees it start to redirect somewhere else.
“No!” he says, stopping the page from loading and typing the words in again. He does it slowly, making sure to copy it exactly as it’s written in the book. When he hits enter, it loads and starts to redirect again.
He sighs and stops it from loading again. He’d really thought…
He collapses down onto the couch and leans back, dropping the tablet into his lap. Staring up at the ceiling, he considers the emotional gamut he’d run over the last fifteen minutes.
“I’m insane,” he says, nodding to himself. “I’m overidentifying with a character in a sci-fi novel, remembering things that never happened, loves that never existed, and losing my mind.” He frowns, letting out a shaky sigh. “Jennifer Goines never existed,” he asserts.
His brain catches up to his mouth a half a minute later and his breath hitches. Jennifer Goines was not the name of the woman in the book.
Hands shaking, he pulls up the browser on his tablet again and types in her name.
He nearly sobs when her picture pops up, smiling and waving as she stands next to a unicorn. “She was real,” he whispers, clicking on the link to her biography. Daughter of Leland Goines, former CEO of the Markridge Group, bioengineer of the unicorn.
He clicks play on the first available video, an interview she gave when she revealed her unicorn to the world.
“Miss Goines,” the reporter asks. “How do you feel about having left your position as CEO of the Markridge Group to pursue this project? A lot of people doubted you’d be able to do it.”
Jennifer shakes her head, a small smile quirking her lips as she looks right into the camera and says, “Think of your life like the internet. Sometimes, the page redirects you for a reason. Who are you to ignore it, not-a-red-shirt?” She winks, clicking her mouth as she does so.
Deacon drops the tablet, leaping up from the couch in shock. Half a second later, he’s scrambling to type the website back into his browser.
It redirects him to the webpage of the scientist who invented teleportation, Dr. Katarina Jones.
“Oh,” he says, and his heart leaps because he thinks he finally understands.
/
It takes him a week to settle some things with the bar, say his goodbyes, and pack a bag.
Jones answers his knock on her front door almost immediately. “Mr. Deacon,” she says, lips twitching.
“Jones,” he nods. “You know who I am.”
She nods, holding the door open wider for him to come in. “We’ve all started remembering. At least, those of us who ever used my machine seem to be remembering.”
He enters, following as she leads him into her living room, mind racing. “Cassie? Cole? Hannah?”
Jones’ lips twitch again, more wry this time. “Cassie’s remembered since 2018, as has Cole, though their situation is a bit different from ours. Hannah and I are just now starting to remember, as is Elliot.”
Deacon nods, swallows hard and says tentatively, “Have you heard from Jennifer?”
She nods and allows her smile to grow. “She comes by for dinner at least once a month. I saw her just last week and she told me she’s remembered the whole time. Because she’s--”
“Primary,” Deacon finishes with a nod. He takes a deep breath. “She sent me here. Do you know why?”
Jones studies him for a long moment, smile softening. “The technology I developed to teleport is similar to the technology I created to time travel. They go hand-in-hand, you see. Travel in space is nearly the same as travel in space and time.”
He lets his breath out slowly, mind racing. Jones waits patiently, watching as he thinks through what he wants to say. “Does she want me to go back for her?” he says slowly.
Her face is a mask. “We’ve learned we have to be careful with time travel,” she says. “There are certain rules, and it would be a one-way trip. Do you want to go back?”
He’s thought of nothing else for the last week. If he had the chance, would he want to go back to 2018? Would he want to see her again and finally ask her out and maybe, just maybe, spend the rest of his time on this planet with her?
The answer came more quickly than he would have guessed. “Yes.”
Jones nods and says, “Come with me.”
He follows, no hesitation.
2018
He has to close his eyes against the bright light when he arrives, struggling to adjust to the abrupt change; Jones’ lab had been dark. With his sight shot for the moment, Deacon tunes into his other senses to find out where he’s landed. The ground shifts beneath him. There’s salt in the air and the sound of lapping water nearby. He hears wind shifting through tall grass and seagulls. A beach, then.
He groans as he opens his eyes to a squint to further assess his surroundings, turning slowly to look over the sea and dunes. He doesn’t even know how he’s going to find--
Her.
He stops when he sees her sitting in a beach chair nearby. “Of all the gin joints in all the world,” she drawls, lips twitching.
“You’re here,” he says dumbly.
Jennifer’s smile widens. She nods and stands up. “In the flesh. Good of Time to drop you two off at the same place only a day apart, huh? Gave me time to sit out and work on my tan.” She holds her arms out as if to check their color, leans over to take a good look at her legs.
“You sent for me,” he says, taking a step closer.
She stands up straight again, shaking her head. “No, I think you’ll find you sent for you. I was just tasked with writing the dedications and picking up the package.”
“What?” he asks, tilting his head to the side, eyes trained on her as she strides up to him.
“Oh, you didn’t know,” she says, biting her lip. She leans in, face an inch from his and whispers, “That’s alright. We’ve still got about a quarter of a century to figure it out.” Her eyes sparkle with mischief as she leans in and kisses him.
2042
It starts with a book.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me until now!” Deacon grumbles, slipping his glasses on and pulling up a blank word document. He can already feel how badly his back is going to ache from all the time he’ll have to spend at the computer over the next few months.
“I forgot to remember to tell you until now,” Jennifer says with a shrug.
Her utter surety that things will always work out how they’re supposed to is endearing most of the time, but when it comes to this… This is the most important task he’ll ever need to complete, and he feels like he’s been given it at the eleventh hour. “They need to be ready before my 40th birthday,” he says. “That’s less than a year to write four books.”
Her eyes bug out at the panic in his tone and she laughs. “Hey, Chicken! Egg already read them, so you know you can do it. You lived it, too! You know how they go.”
He huffs, fighting the smile that wants to emerge at her absolute faith in him. Alright, it’s still endearing. It will always be endearing. He’s yet to say anything though, so she rolls her eyes and plops herself down in his lap, draping herself across him dramatically.
“Alright, fine,” she says. “I’ll help you get started on the title.” She purses her lips as she searches his face. “Otter Eyes and the Fellowship of the Ring,” she suggests, brow furrowed in thought.
His lips quirk and he shakes his head. “What about calling him an agent?”
“Agent Otter Eyes and the Fellowship of the Ring?” she questions, tilting her head.
He pinches her side and she has to bite her lip to tamp down on her laugh. “Agent Cole Otter,” he starts.
She gasps and straightens, holding up a single finger. He has to wrap his arms around her waist to stop her falling off his lap. “Agent Otter and the Traveler! No! Versus the Traveler!”
He hums consideringly, forehead pressed into her shoulder. Finally, he lifts his head to give her a peck on the lips. “I think that’s a damn good title.”

Emerging Technologies Bring Us Accelerated Happiness
The Downside Is That a Part of Us Will Become More Addicted to This Drug
Where is the humanity heading?
This is the question that comes with the English version launch of the futuristic novel “TENTORIA”. A book that raises questions on mankind’s hope of living into a concrete, non-virtual world away from the technology drug seeping deeper and deeper inside our body.
We are in a mad commercial race for bigger sales and an increased diversity. Our appetite for entertainment grows exponentially: touch-screens, smart-phones, a more intelligent Internet, voice and visual recognition, intelligent video analytics, drones, self-driving cars, robots, digital projection lenses, augmented reality, stronger artificial intelligence. Today e-social networks are a big part of our lives, will this impact beyond control our social behavior tomorrow? Today we see more and more intelligent robots, will nano robots control and change atoms, molecules, and cells, objects or human body parts tomorrow?
“By the 23rd century, the average life span had reached three hundred years. No one wished to die anymore.”(Chapter 17, page 82)
Here is a blurb of this captivating book not to be missed.
An army of bionic humans made up as a last-ditch solution to establish peace will turn against humanity.
In the 22nd century, mankind enters a new world war that will produce the first generation of Tentorians. Cyborgs with functioning bodies and human intelligence, they are the first genuine success in the artificial improvement. In time, the Tentorians come officially to be a nation, showing more and more their true nature: blood and power-thirsty, human-bodied machines. Thus, in the 25th century, the great powers made up their minds to hunt them down all over the world and have them isolated inside a region called TENTORIA.
“[Be] ready to forget the future” (Chapter 50, page 341)
A Tentorian nation that will bear consequences on the past.
The action moves back in time 500 years, to the year 2024.Cole is a 27-year-old young man leading a happy life in a peculiar world: a planet Earth consisting but of a piece of land surrounded by one single large ocean, and a population of 12 million people ruled by a secret organization. As the story unfolds, Cole realizes the reality of his existence at break-neck speed on the edge of survival.
From the readers:
“The kind of book hooking you and not letting you go until finding the truth, who lies, who dies, who loves, and in particular what was really going on there!”
“It was hard to put it aside. It set my mind in ‘motion’ and shaped an utterly unexpected vision over what our not too far future might look like.”
"A narration on future...or past, on mankind’s addiction to an increasingly sophisticated technology or to a straightforward achieved happiness."

The Corner of Heartbreak and Forever by Addison Cole
Blurb:
Fall in love with Addison Cole's rich and romantic storytelling, and discover the magic of the Montgomerys. In The Corner of Heartbreak and Forever...
Leaving New York City and returning to her hometown to teach a screenplay writing class seems like just the break Grace Montgomery needs. Until her sisters wake her at four thirty in the morning to watch the hottest guys in town train wild horses and she realizes that escaping her sisters' drama-filled lives was a lot easier from hundreds of miles away. To make matters worse, she spots the one man she never wanted to see again-ruggedly handsome Reed Cross.
Reed was one of Michigan's leading historical preservation experts, but on the heels of catching his girlfriend in bed with his business partner, his uncle suffers a heart attack. Reed cuts all ties and returns home to Oak Falls to run his uncle's business. A chance encounter with Grace, his first love, brings back memories he's spent years trying to escape.
Grace is bound and determined not to fall under Reed's spell again-and Reed wants more than another taste of the woman he's never forgotten. When a midnight party brings them together, passion ignites and old wounds are opened. Grace sets down the ground rules for the next three weeks. No touching, no kissing, and if she has it her way, no breathing, because every breath he takes steals her ability to think. But Reed has other ideas...
** The Corner of Heartbreak and Forever is a Sweet with Heat novel and conveys all of the passion you'd expect to find between two people in love without any graphic scenes or harsh language.
If you're looking for a more explicit romance, pick up the steamy edition, Embracing Her Heart, written by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster. Addison Cole is Melissa's sweet-romance pen name.
My Review:
This will teach me to read blurbs instead of blindly signing up for blog tours because of cute covers. A romance novel without sex scenes or swearing... oy boy.
I will say, this book was "cute" and a quick, easy read that grabs the reader right away. I can see this book being perfect for the more innocent reader or the type of novel a mother could share with a teenage daughter.
I do like the second chance romance trope and if you're like me that will draw you to this book.
Overall, I should have read the fine print on this one because it's not for me. Clean books that focus heavily on romance instead of physical attraction aren't my style but it was an okay read.

On Thin Ice by Julie Cross
Blurb:
Brooke Parker never expected to find herself in the tiny town of Juniper Falls, Minnesota. Of course, she also never expected to lose her dad. Or for her mom to lose herself. Brooke feels like she’s losing it…until she finds Juniper Falls hockey. Juniper Falls girls’ hockey, that is.
Jake Hammond, current prince of Juniper Falls, captain of the hockey team, and player with the best chance of scoring it big, is on top of the world. Until one hazing ritual gone wrong lands him injured, sitting on the sidelines, and―shocking even to him―finding himself enjoying his “punishment” as assistant coach for the girls’ team.
As Jake and Brooke grow closer, he finds the quiet new girl is hiding a persona full of life, ideas, and experiences bigger and broader than anything he’s ever known. But to Jake, hockey’s never just been a game. It’s his whole life. And leveraging the game for a shot at their future might be more than he can give.
Each book in the Juniper Falls series is STANDALONE:
* Off the Ice
* Breaking the Ice
* On Thin Ice
My Review:
Have I mentioned how much I love this series?? I was so excited when I heard the series would be continuing with On Thin Ice and the yummy Jake Hammond.
Brook is the new girl, the quiet girl with the messed up past and the screwed up parents, neither of which she wants to talk about. But that's okay, because she's really interested in listening lately. Meanwhile, Jake is finally a senior, top of the food chain in school and hockey. Captain is in his sights and he's hoping for a good scholarship. But with senior year comes a hockey team tradition Jake would rather forget about. When the tradition goes horribly wrong and Brooke witnesses the whole thing Jake and Brooke will form an unlikely truce that blooms into trading secrets and confiding in each other and eventually into love.
While they spend more and more time together Jake's life is imploding, his spot on the hockey team seems less important than before, and keeping quiet about things he thinks is wrong becomes increasingly harder while Brooke is just trying to start his life over again.
Overall, I loved this book so much and I was shipping Brooke and Jake from the beginning. The reader also gets to see the couples from the first two books but On Thin Ice is a standalone, you don't need to read the previous books to understand this one (even though I highly recommend Off the Ice and Breaking the Ice!). If you love Contemporary YA Sports Romance, this book is a must for you!
My Rating:
Cover: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (I love the orange color of this cover and the couple depicting Brooke and Jake are perfect)
Summary/Tagline: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 ("Small town boy, meet city girl" is not a bad tagline but it doesn't tell much about the magnificent story inside or the struggles of the characters)
Characters: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (Brooke and Jake are both well-developed characters with real-life struggles that they must overcome. I like Jake's struggle to make his father, his coach, his teammates, and the town proud of him while wanting to tell the truth about what really happened and the guilt and responsibility he feels. Brooke is adjusting to life in a much smaller town, her mother's depression, life with her grandmother who seems all up in her business, and her father's arrest - each in their own would be a major thing but she handles all of it so well.)
Worldbuilding: 🌟🌟🌟 It's contemporary YA romance. There isn't much worldbuilding to develop other than telling the reader that it's a small, hockey obsessed town. Like, really hockey obsessed. Not that it isn't done well, because it is. It's relatable when you live in a small town like I do.
Story: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (This is not just a one-dimensional romance, or a sports romance. Yes, two characters fall in love, yes there is a sport that they both play, but it goes deeper than that. It talks about the weight of expectations, hopes, and dreams of the many being pinned on the few, how snap judgments in a small town can ostracize you whether the talk is true or not, generations of hazing within an organization (in this case a hockey team), and the influence of coaches and other adults on teenagers and how the pressure from them makes you question what is right or wrong.)
Overall:

Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay Ely
Blurb:
James Patterson presents a bold new heroine—a cross between Katniss Everdeen and Annie Oakley: Serendipity Jones, the fastest sharpshooter in tomorrow's West.
Seventeen-year-old Serendipity "Pity" Jones inherited two things from her mother: a pair of six shooters and perfect aim. She's been offered a life of fame and fortune in Cessation, a glittering city where lawlessness is a way of life. But the price she pays for her freedom may be too great....
In this extraordinary debut from Lyndsay Ely, the West is once again wild after a Second Civil War fractures the U.S. into a broken, dangerous land. Pity's struggle against the dark and twisted underbelly of a corrupt city will haunt you long after the final bullet is shot.
My Review:
Cover: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (I love how colorful this cover is and how it looks old-times yet you can see a city skyline in the background behind the cover model. I love the pink woven into the model's hair and her clothing gives you a sense of the old west despite this being a futuristic dystopian novel.)
Summary/Tagline: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (The blurb convinced me to read this book even though I usually don't like dystopian novels or westerns. It made me want to find out more.)
Characters: 🌟🌟 (While I appreciated Pity's struggles I had a hard time liking her as a character. There was nothing unique about her. She's a sharpshooter with great aim, but so is Amani in Rebel of the Sands which I enjoyed much more than this book. She's another beautiful girl slated for a marriage that she doesn't want until she runs away and finds herself in a western show type thing. It's a trope I see a lot, the whole "maybe the grass will be greener on the other side, oh wait it isn't" thing.)
Worldbuilding: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (While I struggled with the characters, I loved the worldbuilding in this one. It's a crazy wild-west-meets-dystopia mash up and I could see it so clearly. The mix of new technology and old western style, dusty towns and glittering, dangerous cities.)
Story: 🌟🌟🌟(I'm torn about the story. I've read this book twice, once in physical format and once on audiobook and I find that when I don't connect with the main character it makes it harder to finish a book, even if I like the worldbuilding or premise. This book felt ununiquely unique. It had the awesome mashup of worlds but it was bogged down by worn-out tropes and themes that have been seen so many times before. I struggled to get through this one both times and honestly if it weren't for the cover, blurb, and James Patterson's imprint, I might not have picked this one up at all if I knew what lay inside beforehand.)
Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 of 5 Stars!

My Review:
Cover: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (I love most sci-fi covers and this one doesn't disappoint. The colors, the spacecraft - this cover begs to be picked up from the shelf)
Summary/Tagline: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 ("A girl without a past. A boy without a future." This makes the book sound mysterious without even knowing what the book is about. Why doesn't the girl have a past? Why won't the boy have a future? It begs you to crack it open and see why)
Characters: 🌟 (I've heard this book is an Anastasia retelling, but as I DNF'd this one I will never know. Judging by the main character's name and the tagline I can see that's the direction the author was going. As for the boy... she's in love with a glitching metal boy, that much I got, but I'm kind of over the girl falls in love with a machine thing. There's nothing here that I haven't seen in other sci-fi or other Anastasia retellings.)
Worldbuilding: 🌟 (Again, I DNF'd this book fairly quickly so I didn't get to see much of the worldbuilding but what I did read wasn't very unique.)
Story: 🌟(Again, nothing unique here. There's been a flood of Anastasia retellings hitting the shelves over the past year or so ranging from historical fantasy to sci-fi and this one wasn't one of the better ones. And as far as sci-fi goes, it's not Defy the Stars (which I could compare it to romance-wise.)
Overall: 🌟🌟.6 of 5 Stars!
My Rating:
🌟🌟
2.6 of 5 stars!

December 2018 Blurbs
12/1/18 The final Chapter on 2018's book began with me checking out the sequel to Wreck It Ralph. And it was Near perfect
in every way possible. What wasn't was my drive back and the snowstorm that laid waste to the road, never had driven in
snow that bad until today. Honestly was shaking for nealry 20 miles. Luckilly came back in time to see Bama win in epic
fashion. I may not like them but they are #1. UCF won as well hopeful they can make the jump.
12/2/18 Connor ended up picking up a new kitten, he and Amber named Nelson. Now I know how Peele felt in Keanu. That cat
was adorable and so sweet to be around. Especially that poofball tail. Packers stink as usual to the point where
McCarthy got fired during his postgame press conference. Bama, Clemson, and Oklahoma will batlle on the 29th to see who
gets the chance to play in Santa Clara. Notre Dame will join them, this should be expanded by all counts.
12/3/18 Andrew has another job, this one late at night. Hoping he'll stick this out. Heisman this year went down to the 3
QB's from Bama, Oklahoma and Ohio State. Wonder how the finalst math is done to drop the number from 5 to 3. Gifts need to
be sent out to Eric and Company soon. New Tree skirt looks hopefully ok.
12/4/18 Stuff can take the cake really quickly when it comes to life. Connor apparently has broken things off with Amber
now his gut is killing him. Karma at its finest people. Other than that, I don't mind having to get called out to do carts
what irks me is when someone like Cole, drops off so I'm completley alone out there. His weaseled out method just really
iritates me more. Bowl Mercahndise looking rather dull this year, may save money along those lines.
12/5/18 Well, Connor may have gut problems like me. The real kicker is how incompitent our hospital is here, and how
they were throwing in words like liver failure and appendix issues. Grabbed mounted photo which allowed me to finish
wrapping the gifts to be sent out to Eric and them. Hopeful that Eli Like gummi Bears. Main gift hunting will begin next
week. Do love Holiday seaons, and all that they entail.
12/6/18 The cat may be be cute, but Connor breaking, entering and placing him on me in the middle of the night. Nope.
He, can really take the cake when it comes to not knowing how to amicably end a relationship. Rebought Hobbit and that
gave me, Legos for the first time in 15 Years. Will only get the Target lego hobbit editons and that will be it. Survey
for class is adjusted and will hopefully be done by weekends end. Seminar I still have to do, hoping Dad will give a
hand with that. Looking forward to Mamoa on SNL.
12/7/18 Pearl Harbor, a tragic event that led to a worse movie. But on this day there should be a new atalige on when it
rains it pours for the winter. I call it When it snows it bursts, cause we all had issues today. Bravada may have a frozen
gear shift. Eric lost another girlfriend, Connor may be out of a job, and Andrew may actually be doing better than any of
us for once. This is a burst of bad luck.
12/8/18 A day that i had originally set out to do nothing now had me doing even less, thanks to the Bum gear shift. Not
sure how we can fix that, other vehicle still waits in the wings. Watched more SpongeBob then i had in a long time wow
I missed a bunch. Could really use some good in these next few days.
12/9/18 Packers finally won, just need miracles to happen in order to squeak into wild card. Vehicles e break lite may
give me clue in order to fix it. Winter and Christmas need to show up quicker cause it certainly doesnt feel like it
especially not around here.
12/10/18 Early night when it came to the back. Used VTO to leave early, stinks i lost a day but at least i caught up on
stuff.
12/11/18 Bravada i bought finally became mine with licence plates. Saving insurance for after Christmas. Store had less
on today which made the work at least plenteful. But the group with the exception of me and 2 others all left at 9:50
as we got left with the bulk of the cleanup. Not cool in the slightest.
12/12/18 First day with Bravada, not a bad go of things. Penultimate class, surprisingly am at an A hoping i can get this
done within the next week. Contingency plan needed for tomorrow, will see SpiderMan on Saturday and hold off on Aquaman
until after Christmas.
12/13/18 Nice to find out i can still tack miles on my feet. Will need to do that again soon. Packages got sent including
book for retun. Retuned a bunch of stuff for gift stipened, hoping dad likes revenant more than hacksaw ridge. South
Park finale made no sense.
12/14/18 Saving spiderverse for sunday, mainly so i can get rid off stuff at BAM, more cash more presents. Will still read
Mortal Engines even though movie looks lousy. A lot of ties on countdown, and just discovered a couple i overlooked.
Binging Bob's Burgers like crazy. Man that show is a lot better than i gave it credit for. Busted truck is gone from
parking lot, didn't expect to have to have management nearly call cops on stolen vehicle though.
12/15/18 Day from hell is an understatement. Eric getting arested, Im working on stuff and Andrew seemed to not know
when to keep his mouth shut. Bowl games starting today brought only form of relief.
12/16/18 Better day, Animated Spiderman was something to behold. Got bulk of christmas shopping out of the way. Bravada
held up just wished i could get it back fully. Packers got knocked out of postseason. Just hope we can win one more,
at least chances are good. Smash Bros Ultimate is awesome.
12/17/18 Mom's gift now safley wrapped. Football continues and the Saints better be hoping they stop stinkin things up.
12/18/18 Cap 2 was down to 4 with a mysterious virus going round. As everyone left by 6, i managed to get out early.
Just hoping this doesnt come back to bite me in the butt. Hoping to wrap up gifts by Friday, Aquaman on Saturday may
be possibile. Glad thats in town at least. Also did annual watch of Haruhi Suzumiya movie, how come they can't make a
movie that long in America. Stinks it has to be shorter than 2 for animated.
12/19/18 Last Class, thankfully was short and sweet. Walked out in good mood after making thank you card. Just curious
to know when i may get funds, cause have to take 2 classes otherwise just to get scholarship. Rose Bowl shirt looks
great. Will finish gift wrapping by friday at least.
12/20/18 I dont know why but it just doesnt feel like christmas this year. Snow almost gone, skies are dreary and
whatever mood were in around here just keeps going up. Better Days by Goo Goo Dolls seems more and more perfect in telling
the moood were in right now. Hoping for a few good days, free christmas dinner at store tommorow should lift funk.
12/21/18 The mood certainly is festive store wise. Finished grabbing gifts. Wil be hoping they like them.
12/22/18 Down to the single digits in days left of 2018, one goal of mine i wished i picked up more on was the sign
language aspect. Will be putting that back on the 2019 docket. Store for a few more days. Just hoped to go watch
Aquaman thanks to VTO but based on what i got coming, better to hold off on that.
12/23/18 Penultimate truck of 2018, thankfully got that done by 10, finally got tree from mountain, bulbs i picked up
worked brillantly. Hard to belive it all ends in a week. Good year overall.
12/24/18 Short 4 hours with only Chris and Cheyenne. Best store day of the year in which we turn off all lights and tell
people who come in to leave. Cole on the other hand, once again, i got drugged out to fix his mess. Not pleasent.
What was was prime rib and quiet dinner with family before i gave them gifts. Poofball hat idea worked on all but Dad
may have to return his. Looking forward to nba on christmas day. Wonderful life and Polar Express double feature to
round things out.
12/25/18 Linus from peanuts says it all. With angellic hosts proclaim christ is born in bethlehem.
12/26/18 Amazing how one day in total silence with family can turn into one explosive return to reality. All for the best
5 days of the year i suppose. Aquaman movie ended up being pretty great, never figured Julie Andrews would play a squid.
Badgers Bowl game tomorrow then final day of work for year on friday. Just hopin i can get final blog posted on monday
before library closes. Year is rapidly closing fast. Also 2nd Charlie Brown Christmas special sucks, a little bit much
on the meaning of the season and not on what made the first special great all around.
12/27/18 Rain filled the day, a lot of water that may turn whatever snow we have into ice. Badgers won in Yankee Stadium
and tomorrow is Walmart 2018 finale for me. Just wish i didn't have a week off after that, but i can make do with micro
paycheck for a bit. Already trying to figure 2019 Goals, dont know whether to up it or lower it. Found Attack on Titan
Season 3 on Digital. Yeah gonna be good tv this weekend.
12/28/18 The 2018 Season finale at Wallyworld. Epicly enjoyable. Just miffed that have a week off with little to no
Coverage coming in. May seek alternative option. Truck tire thankfully got fixed but other issue may now have arisen.
Bad luck streak wrapping this year up strong isn't it?
12/29/18 Another college football playoff another Bama Clemson beatdown. At least Kyler and Oklahoma actually put up a
fight. Not sure what movie to see tomorrow. Possibly saving Bumblebee for next week, or VICE.
12/30/18 Entry 364 and on this penultimate day, I chose to go see the Mary Poppins sequel. Oh man it was charming. The
welcome balance of modern with slight hat tips to what came before. Packers embarrassingly concluded thier season. Orville
came back on tonight and that was equally good, a bunch of side plots that somehow all culminated in one odd ritual where
Bortus took a dump, and it was good. Looking forward to adding that on DVR. 5 Packages to send out tomorrow, not sure
what i'll be doing when ball drops.
12/31/18 Bye Bye Yesterday...The culmination of 365 Days of life, and as we conclude 2018 I think, there was so much
more I could have gotten done. 2 Weddings, A Super Bowl visit, watching Connor finish school, buying my first vehicle,
nearly seeing a sporting event, and a prmomotion at wally world. So much more I could have squeezed in. Finished today up
with helping dad with bread, and he made chili, hoping that that wont make us all sick as hes been these last few days.
As for this journaling buiness. I may look into continuing this come 2019. After all that is now as i have put it the
year of the endgame. Definetly would want to chronicle that. Though maybe i'll go the Your Name Route and download an app
to chronicle that for my Phone and Ipad. Here's to you 2018, now as Thanos snaps at 11:53 you'll crumble to dust and
fade away in our minds and hearts. Its time for the next chapter, and im ready...To Be hopefully continued.
End of 2018 Journal

November 2018 Blurbs
11/1/18 In Novembers Gusty Gale...The one baby song that sticks with me is that line from Chicken Soup with Rice...
The fact that I know that and can sing falsetto really sets a tone. Rice Lake run today as Scholarships needed answering
somehow the fact that i can only qualify for one and yet still can deal with classwork is a mystery. Eli in 2 Weeks and
hoping Basketball at the Vikings Stadium at months end. Mom said shed go with on Saturday to St. Paul but in case not
contingency is the Queen Movie. Stinks about Nutcracker being lousy Grinch remake for Christmas Movie it is.
11/2/18 Patti and the Bravada im trying to buy. Something tells me thats got to answer itself very soon. Ellen wasn't
going to St. Paul either so contingency may now be in place. Work at least had benefits being sorted out. Also Lego Harry
Potter man that game was fun, glad for the port, now they just need to port other lego games.
11/3/18 Bravada is now mine thanks to mom. More crucially Queen Movie was luckilly in town, at theater that is now
only open weekends. Confusing yes, just hoping this isn't premant closing like Bruce. Movie was near perfect as Rami Malek
Crushed It, a term I almost never use. Andrew fried microwave after 18 years. It was overdue but man it stinks that its
gone. ReLife Anime...If episode 17 had me tearing up, the other 15 1/2 should be just as interesting. Unlike that other
show A Sister Is All You Need, a premsise about slice of life, authors and drinking that wears dull quick.
11/4/18 So begins a short week, mainly due to assurance needed for initial plans. Just wish they could have called me in
for one more day, i have assurance but still could have used it. Pete Davidson is really hurting based on this weeks SNL
no matter his mindset and well wishes, he's hurting. Packers more so...and Ricks final Walking Dead, what a cop out...So
glad I'm done with the show, no matter how interesting teenage Judith looks. One more detail, just when I thought 2018
had used up all its anime...Rapping Zombies on a Show that really should be used by the ZombieLand Sequel coming out
next year, they can spit licks.
11/5/18 Remember Remember...An annual watching of V For Vendetta and its poigancy highlights today. Bravada is now
officially mine just have to get it al registred and isured without it breaking my bank. Also never trust pictures for
all purchases on Ebay, miffed on that count. Very long day tomorrow, even work may be overshadowed by this, could have
used this 2 years ago on that fateful night.
11/6/18 The Blue Wave of election day. Unlike 2 years ago when that blowhard of president peeved off the country, this
made me glad i was working. Plenty of distractions. But Walker is gone from Wisconsin and the Blue Wave crested at the
house. Not the complete washover those wanting Trump gone hoped for but still great.
11/7/18 Those 2 dopes i call younger brothers...Somehow they dont get it. Only thing they do get, is how awesome Red Dead
Redemption is and how i wish to high heaven it came out for the Switch.
11/8/18 This time of year when the cold comes out, the stuff you like to do seems impractical. I have a vehicle that I
cant use until i get it titled, and a nephew coming in 1 week who may not even see me a bunch. Lone thing giving me
some solace, the black Friday Ads popped up today. So many possibilities.
11/9/18 Winter has shown in full force, proof being, those 2 dopes stuck here. Me having to suffer through it until I head
to work. Holding off on Grinch until next week, possibly seeing it with Mom and Eli.
11/10/18 RWBY Continues to astound. Salems storied history with Oz, wholly molly. Christmas season always seems to bring
out the best when it comes to treats. Lately my favorite seems to be those nougats. Fresh and gooey all in one sweet
package. Badgers sure do stink. That guy getting revenge on Pete Davidson especially the Ariana Ringtone that was worth
it to see during SNL, Liev Schriber sure is not funny though.
11/11/18 Vets, heroes who give thier daily lives to defend all that we hold dear and sacred. Also fitting its the
centiniel of said remeberence. New guy on Cap 2 Tristan, I'm really liking, seems to hold his own quite well. 4 days until
Eli comes looking forward to it.
11/12/18 Why does family make the easy things so difficult, once again those 2 dopes. Store had Black Friday stuff being
assembled today. Be glad to use debit card tomorrow when i get bulk of my funds back. Last few days have been rough.
11/13/18 GameFlip, an app ive been using to buy mainly Amazon cards is really having it both ways with me. Great to find
digital codes for almost nada, but this one guy who i bought a card from on Sunday has been really screwey. Really miffed
on that front. Said digital codes allows me to rewatch The Meg during work lunch.
11/14/18 Final Project for class has me creating a full training seminar. Stinks knowing that I have to do it on too broad
a subject issue. Mobility in the workplace, having to do with wheelchairs and other devices. Wow city this is hard.
Christmas box has been dug out, begining decorating tomorrow before Eli shows up. Hunters at play this weekend. Also glad
store discount expands to food for rest of year.
11/15/18 Dad is 60 feels weird to say that. Well Eli, a little bit intimidated by me, but we have a week to fix it. Got
A debt collection thing from WITC On the same day i finaly knocked off tuition. I know i wanted to not have autopay on
tuition but this is ridiculously overkill. Likley watching Fantastic Beasts Saturday when we get back from Rice Lake, glad
like the Queen movie this is in town.
11/16/18 Nora and Eli, weird combo that sends him into his Grandmas arms. Glad thats occuring while im not at home. At
least my and Erics Grandma got to see him, just not sure how much longer that will be a possibility. One week to Black
Friday and the trucks for delivery have tripled. The sales will be worth it but the work on the other hand, wish that
just came faster.
11/17/18 Stags day, the first day of hunting season a little less crowded around the area. Went with mom and Eli to see
Grinch but showing ended up being sold out. Eli for being 4 is just a near ball of energy, even if we never gave him sugar
Wish he could calm down, mom somehow seemed chill with it, might have to take her advice on this issue. Cute when
he has to be, bullet like mom put it on all other fronts. As for Fantastic Beasts, it seemed overstuffed for its own
good a two hour episode like youd see on Netflix or somewhere else. Though Depp did win me over as Grindlewald.
11/18/18 Eli was better today, and we managed to actually get some stuff done. He ended up being major help with placing
ornaments on my tree. Work however was a mess, misinformation abound. Thursday outside better not be a bigger mess. Oh wait
its the Black Friday sale yeah it will be.
11/19/18 The thanksgiving week is always wacky, Monday somehow is wackiest. Eli went with Mom to meet Rafe while I mainly
spent it finishing decorating the room. Green Light Strand isnt working will have to replace it. Cayedn surprsingly got
a deer and Eric is really helpful on that front. Work meanwhile was nuts, this time however, with Split Pants. May have to
get new ones before Thursday Night. Glad this week a lot of stuff on Itunes and Amazon is on sale. Will likely take big
advantage of this. Andy possibly thew wrench in plans, hopeful that i dont have to cancel.
11/20/18 Lone day off this week has me stopping at WITC to finish work i have assigned since i have no class tomorrow.
Had to pick up pants as my others split. Will hold off on game or blu ray until thursday night after work. Mom and Skillet
cookies glad she makes them but could wonder what else around here might break as stove is going. Our turkey is set for
tomorrow as Eric and compay leave before parade on thursday. Hopin to get Eli once more to do craft project, want to
surprise mom on that count.
11/21/18 The day before, aka the busiest travel day of the year. Made rudolph feet with Eli, a lot bigger than i pictured
him to be. Had to wear split pants as replacements didn't fit. Turkey was good, unexpectedly tried Moms squash that was
really tasty for some odd reason. Back outside for carts tomorrow, first time since the summer and i get thrown to the
wolves on the big one. Colder than usual i will admit.
11/22/18 Eli seemed sad to leave us, but at least i got him the ornament he made ready before he did. Another thanksgiving
the parade in full glory. Lions crappy game, Cowboys decent game, and Wal-Marts annual 6pm sale. Cole really needed to be
slapped. He must think im dumber than i look. Best part is always the low price movies and tv shows. Annual pickups of
Flash, Arrow and Big Bang Theory. Handmaids Tale DVD counts too this time along with Jumanji and a film i personally wanted
to see but heard crap about, Assassins Creed. Not looking forward to the rain tomorrow.
11/23/18 Quieter than usual actual Black Friday. Couple that with Rain that washed away snow, pretty off day all around.
11/24/18 Plans for Basketball with Andy and Carynn are officially scrapped, could remedy that in another surprise way.
Something about today that just felt so much more off than usual. Lingered at Library, lingered at Store, even lingered
at McDonalds stuff i would not normally do on a day like this. Ralph Breaks the Internet I'll hold off on for now. Really
still want to see Grinch. Badgers finally lost the Ax after 15 years, really makes you think.
11/25/18 Finally got Wolfenstien 2 downloaded for Switch, will look forward to play something else besides Zelda for a bit
Smash Bros awaits in the wings. Christmas gifts are starting to take abit of idea form. UCF continues to climb, will need
upsets by Texas and Northwestern to have a shot at Playoff but without QB is risky.
11/26/18 Mom threw out her back, not sure if it was from picking up Eli but she seemed more out of sorts than usual. Other
replacement for Cap 2 joined, liking him so far. Small issue with Chyenne who was on phone for nealry 15 minutes in the
middle of the aisle, and nobody said a peep. If it was me, would have been fired. Privelege indeed. Guy at McDonalds
may be homeless, was tempted to report him but with all the white calling blacks for doing normal stuff no way id risk it.
11/27/18 This day always seems to be the quietest when it comes to stuff coming out, almost nothing. One movie I wanted
to get for Eli when he was here finally showed up. Wrapped up DVD's as gifts for Eric and them. 15% extra coming
Thursday. Not sure what itll be used for.
11/28/18 Rare Wednesday I had store duties as well as class. Got extra 15% card for the even 25%. Glad ill be able to use
it this time. Unlike what I originally had intended for The 30th. Could use some more snow around here.
11/29/18 25% discount thankfully goes 2 days so held off on that. Visited WITC the Christmas decorations are great as
usual. Visited Menards but the so called enchanted forest seemed lacking. At least I was able to get bulbs and another
set of blue lights. Sold ticket, hopeful Andy can get in tomorrow and enjoy himself.
11/30/18 Contigency Plan #2: Animated Grinch, OK Cumberbatch was excellent and Pharell ups Anthony Hopkins but the movie
was just simply Ok. 25% got used well for Moms clients and Connor and Amber. Andy and Carynn got in and enjoyed
themselves. Also got thier save the date and details on the Weddding. Looks like a fun 4 day trip next May. Last Part of
Year begins, lets see if this can finish strong. Never figured at start that id be blogging this but just goes to so.
334 Days down 31 to Go.
