The 2024 season for the Dodgers will be interesting with their two new additions, Ohtani and Yamamoto. Both Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are officially with the Los Angeles Dodgers, after signing a 10-year 700-million dollar contract and 12-year 325-million dollar contract, respectively. Shohei has proved himself to be a phenomenal baseball player over the years, with both his pitching and hitting abilities. He’s been chosen to be to be in the All-Star games for three consecutive years, as well as having just received his 2023 American League MVP award, at the 99th Baseball Writers’ Dinner. After he heals, entirely, Shohei will be an incredible asset for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani, also, chose to defer a majority of his new salary, which may have helped his new teammate, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, to choose the Dodgers as well. Yoshinobu has been scouted by the Dodgers since he was a teenager and once he became a free agent, the LA Dodgers knew they had to pick him up. Both of these new Dodgers have an incredible baseball history that will, hopefully, get the entire team a World Series win. Give us a call, at 562-595-6510, if you are interested in securing your tickets for any of the upcoming Dodger games this season. We expect big things to happen!

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, July 11th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
On June 22nd Shohei Ohtani made Major League Baseball history. He was chosen to not only be a pitcher but a position player this year, at the Mid-Summer Classic, in Seattle. Ohtani has been voted as the starting-designated hitter for the American League, and this will be his third consecutive year pitching, having started in 2021. This makes him the ninth pitcher in Angels’ history to be selected to at least three All-Star Games. He is now among the giants, such as, Nolan Ryan, Chuck Finley, Troy Percival, and Mark Langston. Ohtani will be the first Angels pitcher to make the All-Star team for three consecutive seasons since Weaver, from 2010 to 2012.
Shohei has made tremendous strides this season, in regards to his stats. With 16 pitching-starts, 127 strikeouts (ranking 3rd), leads in opponent batting average, is sixth in walks-and-hits-per-inning-pitched, not to mention he leads the American League in strikeouts per nine innings.
Congratulations to Shohei Ohtani for being selected as the AL All-Star Team Pitcher.  Give us a call, at 562-595-6510, if you are interested in securing your tickets for any of the All-Star Events, including the Big Game itself.

The Chargers have a new head coach, moving forward. For the next five years, Jim Harbaugh will be joining his old team again. The once San Diego Chargers quarterback, is now going bring his talents to Los Angeles. After coaching for the University of Michigan and leading them to a national championship, he has his sights on getting his former football team to the Super Bowl. Harbaugh has had a long coaching career, and has helped teams such as the San Francisco 49ers make it to three consecutive NFC Championship games and the Super Bowl. Given that Jim chose to turn down an offer from Michigan, that would have made him the highest-paid college football coach, he decided to return to the NFL. With his experience and expertise, the Chargers couldn’t be happier to have them with them. All that said, Harbaugh is going to need to assemble his new coaching staff. Only time will tell who he decides to have with him, but we’re certainly expecting great things this coming season.

Pac-12 Conference Postponed
The Pac-12 conference has decided to postpone all sporting events for the rest of the year. That means no soccer, no volleyball, and no football.
USC football coach Clay Helton says, “I'm disappointed and sad for our players and coaches for the amount of hard work that they put in, in preparation for a season. [I’m] sad for our student population that's having to deal with a pandemic, and it interfering with the college experience right now, and what they're having to deal with.”
USC’s rising star quarterback Kedon Slovis says, “We all kind of thought it was coming to a head at some point. But it was really sad to see that we knew that we were not going to be able to play anymore.”
This cancellation of fall sports is a public health decision.
Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Seth Gamradt represents USC in all health and safety-related issues at the Pac-12. He says, “Everything points to this being a benign illness in the young people in the collegiate age group, especially in the elite athletes, but it doesn't have to be. There have been some cases that have cropped up around the country of athletes who've had COVID and recovered, who have been noted to have myocarditis. Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle that can come after a flu illness or after a cold illness. That can place the heart at risk in the future.”
That risk is too high, Pac-12 health officials say. It’s too much of a gamble to have a player recover from COVID, end up with an enlarged heart, and then sustain a big hit on the football field.
Not only are athletes affected, but fans and marching band members.
Bryant Chang plays trumpet in the USC marching band. He says, “I've been [in] band for all four years of college. So this is very bittersweet for me because I was really looking forward to this last year.”
Kate Johnston also plays trumpet in the USC marching band. She says, “It's also really sad just because we've spent this whole summer online, and I've been doing nothing. And now I have to do more of nothing. And at first I was like, ‘Okay, well at least I'll have band.’ Because they said at first we were going to do a social distance band. And I was like, ‘That's some stability, that's still going to be really fun.’ But now that's not happening.”
There will be financial impacts too, from lost ticket revenues to TV deals and sponsorships.
Mike Bohn, USC’s Athletic Director, says USC alone is looking at tens of millions in lost revenue. “At USC, the football enterprise represents 80 to 85% of our revenue, and obviously the donations that are tied to that are factored into that as well.”
Seasonal jobs that won't be available this year for both students and lower wage workers who take tickets, sell concessions, and provide security.
The Pac-12 is hoping that the fall slate of sports could be played in spring 2021.

Rob Gronkowski out of retirement traded to Bucs and reunited with Brady
The New England Patriots agreed to trade tight end Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that Gronkowski passed his physical with the team.
"Rob has agreed to play for Tampa this season," Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He will honor his current contract at this time."
Reports suggest that Gronkowski, who has one year left on his contract that will pay him $10 million this year, has been getting his body ready for a return to football, and that reuniting with Tom Brady was important.
During an appearance on What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday, Gronk hinted that he might consider coming out of retirement. "I'm feeling good right now, I'm happy where I'm at," he said. "You just never know, man. You just never know. You never know. I'm not totally done."
Gronkowski, 30, retired ahead of the 2019 season after eight seasons with New England. During his Patriots career, he was a three-time Super Bowl champion, five-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro selection. He caught 521 passes for 7,861 yards and 79 scores, establishing himself in his prime as the game's best tight end and arguably the most talented player at the position in NFL history.
Injuries were an issue for Gronk, however, as he missed 29 games in his career and 13 games in his last three seasons alone. After posting double-digit touchdown receptions in five of his first six seasons, he had a total of 14 touchdowns between the 2016-18 campaigns.
And now Gronkowski will be playing football with Brady in Tampa Bay next season. It's great news for Bucs fans and more tough news for Patriots fans, who have seen the most important player in franchise history sign with a new team this offseason and one of the most popular figures in team history come out of retirement to join him.

Taylor Swift Cancel Concert Series at SoFi Stadium
SoFi Stadium, the new home to the Chargers and Rams, will not have an official grand opening in July.
Pop star Taylor Swift was scheduled to have a two-night concert on July 25 and 26, which would have marked the first event held in the stadium, but the concert has been postponed to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Due to ongoing concerns over coronavirus, Swift announced via Twitter on Friday that she was canceling her tour, but said she was hopeful it could be rescheduled sometime in 2021. It’s the first of potentially several hits Inglewood will take in what was supposed to be a celebratory year for the city.
“I’m so sad I won’t be able to see you guys in concert this year,” Swift wrote on Twitter. “But I know this is the right decision. Please, please stay healthy and safe. I’ll see you on stage as soon as I can but right now what’s important is committing to this quarantine, for the sake of us all.”
Swift was billed as the first woman to perform the opening concert at an NFL stadium.
SoFi Stadium made the announcement Friday, erasing the July 25 opening and pushing the first scheduled event to an Aug. 1 Kenny Chesney country music concert. The cancellation cited “ongoing concerns surrounding COVID-19,” which have become a hot-button issue around the continued work on SoFi during a stay-at-home order from California Gov. Gavin Newsom. A league source tied to stadium operations told Yahoo Sports on Friday that the Swift cancellation “won’t be the last” summer event spiked from an NFL venue, adding that “concerts will be the first” entertainment to spell out whether the 2020 kickoff will be delayed.
“The horizon of it — July is going to tell us what we need to know,” the source said. “A lot of June is dropping off the calendar [for stadium operations]. But July is that line of resistance. That’s what you kind of watch. Everyone knows when the end of July is getting bumped, August is next and that’s basically the start of the season. If you’re canceling things in August, you’re not having fans in stadiums in August. And then maybe you’re not doing anything at all in August.”
The big question becomes whether the stadium will be ready and able to host NFL games, with or without fans, in 2020. It’s entirely possible that the first season of the new stadium will involve few if any paying customers, with the venue simply providing the backdrop for the TV broadcast of 16 regular-season games due to be played there.

2020 Orange County Fair Cancelled
For the first time since World War II, the annual Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California, has been canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials announced Monday.
The OC Fair & Event Center board voted unanimously to cancel the fair, which was scheduled to open July 17, 2020.  The fair normally is a host to a variety of live concerts and comedy acts nightly at the Pacific Amphitheatre, their main outdoor venue.
The action comes amid unprecedented community stay-at-home and social distancing orders and will protect guests, vendors and staff during the COVID-19 crisis.
“The decision to cancel the 2020 OC Fair was not taken lightly by the Board. As Governor-appointed representatives the Board has a responsibility to provide a safe experience to the community-at-large, the hundreds of people who depend on county fairs for their livelihood, fairgoers and OC Fair staff,” said Board Chair Sandra Cervantes in the press release. “While many of our guests have expressed extreme disappointment over the idea of the 2020 Fair being canceled, we strongly believe it is the right thing to do in this current situation. However, we will keep the spirit of the OC Fair alive with virtual fair concepts such as contests, competitions, entertainment and concessions to bring the fair experience to guests through ocfair.com and social media.”
The Monday cancellation falls in line with other fairs across the state wary of public health guidelines discouraging mass gatherings for months, at least, as people are already staying at home to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
County fairs that have opted to cancel this year include San Diego County’s at the neighboring Del Mar Fairgrounds, Contra Costa County in the San Francisco Bay Area, and most recently Sacramento.
We look forward to the County Fairs opening back up safely and preparing for the 2021 season.

Our hearts go out to one of the most beloved, iconic, and known Ranchera singers of all time. Vicente Fernández was one of the most well recognized and accomplished artists of his time. Born in Huentitán El Alto, Jalisco, he grew up on movies and music. From a deep-seated love of the arts and a passion to become a star, Vicente ended up realizing his dream in his early 30’s where he started acting and singing. With the release of his album, El Rey, El Hijo del Pueblo, and Para Recordar he became a reference point in the music industry. In the early 80’s Vicente’s musical style changed from Bolero Ranchero to a Ranchera style. He gained significant traction which would ultimately lead him to reaching fans abroad and tour outside of the US and Mexico. By the early 90’s Fernández had skyrocketed to fame within the industry and was dubbed the, “Mexican Sinatra”. Throughout the 90’s he then released another handful of albums that became absolute classics and in the 2000’s would tour with his son, Alejandro. The lengths that Vicente went to in order to just be able to have the chance to do this with his son are amazing. He truly saved his son and that led to both of them gaining certified platinum in the US. Later, in 2008, Vicente won another Latin Grammy and soon after would receive certified double platinum for his album, Prime Fila. Even after he announced his retirement from the arts, he still continued creating and releasing music. Over his 50-year career Vicente Fernández recorded more than 80 albums and over 300 songs. He was a legend among artists and will be missed dearly by all.

The 2-time World Series champion, Albert Pujols shocked not only Southern California, but the entire baseball world when he cleared waivers with the Angels and joined the Boys in Blue across town. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer was on the last year of a 10-year contract worth $254 million when he and the Angels parted ways. There's a lot of speculation circulating as to why exactly the Angels let go of Pujols, but it wasn't too long before he found a new home only 43 miles from Angel Stadium. Rumors spread that Pujols wanted a bigger role with the team despite his declining batting numbers but he quickly denied that narrative. "But at the end of the day, no hard feelings at all. I’m here with this organization and I’m excited about this opportunity. I’m not the only player that’s probably going to go through this.” Pujols made his Dodger debut in a Monday night win over the Diamondbacks and finished 1 for 4, punching in an RBI. The Angels are paying him approx. $29 million for the remainder of the season while the Dodgers are paying approx. $400,000.

The End of SDCCU Stadium
From the now dried-out grass, to the fluorescent lights up above, inside the stadium in Mission Valley sits the eerie, now empty Chargers locker room.
And how about the spiral ramp leading from the Plaza level to the Loge level that every kid raced up and down, a time or two.
SDCCU Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium, the Murph, whatever you want to call it, the 53-year-old structure is soon to be a San Diego memory.
"We will start in the next month or so, disposing of the interior things. When we knock it down, things need to be taken out, or given a new place," said Gina Jacobs, Associate Vice President of Mission Valley Development. "We're going to try and salvage some of the seats, so that we can make those available for sale."
The stadium was home to many great San Diego memories. Who can forget LaDainian Tomlinson's record breaking touchdown? Steve Garvey's playoff home run in 1984? Marshall Faulk running wild one Saturday afternoon against USC?
"We certainly recognize that this has been a big part of San Diego's history, and we're looking forward to our new facility being a part of San Diego's future. This is something that is going to be a better fit for San Diego State and for San Diego," Jacobs said.
Over the past couple years, we've seen stadium renderings, but now we are seeing progress at the Mission Valley site, as construction is now underway.
"We are very committed to having the new stadium open in the fall of 2022. It's really gratifying to see that not only are we able to bring to San Diego the things that we have really been looking for, for a really long time. But to do it, in a way that we really integrated community input into the process, and bringing forward something that all of San Diego can be proud of," said Jacobs.
On Saturday, October 24th, the Aztecs start a two- year temporary home stadium relocation to Dignity Health Sports Center in Carson, California.
Carson is just 13 miles south of downtown L.A., so San Diego residents will have to trek through two counties over 110 miles to attend home games.
Far as it may be, it is a great venue. Host to many professional football events the past several years Dignity Health Sports Center was where the NFL’s Chargers called home in 2017-2019. The XFL’s Wildcats made their debut there this Spring. The venue also played host to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl from 2012 through 2017, and is the current home of the LA Galaxy.

Eagles Win First Super Bowl Championship
For a city that produced one of Hollywood’s ultimate underdog stories, the Philadelphia Eagles delivered an equally inspiring script by upsetting the New England Patriots on Sunday for their first Super Bowl title.
The Eagles were underdogs throughout the NFL playoffs, and just as most expected little from fictional Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa, few onlookers outside the City of Brotherly Love expected them to beat the defending Super Bowl champions.
But Philadelphia, who embraced their lowly status with some players wearing dog masks throughout the playoffs, stunned New England with a 41-33 victory to cap a remarkable turnaround after finishing last in their division a year ago.
“We’ve been doubted since Day One,” said Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, who caught what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. “This team, no one picked us. We come out here and we’re World Champions.”
The Eagles limped into the post-season with an offense handicapped by a seemingly hopeless backup quarterback following an injury to Carson Wentz in December, but Nick Foles proved more than ready to shine on the game’s biggest stage.
Foles, who nearly retired after an underwhelming 2015 season with the St Louis Rams, showed no nerves playing in his first Super Bowl and went toe-to-toe with Patriots counterpart Tom Brady, a five-time Super Bowl champion.
“I felt calm,” said Foles, who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after throwing three touchdowns. “We felt confident coming in and we just went out there and played football.”
Philadelphia missed a subsequent two-point conversion attempt to leave the door open for the Patriots with a little less than two-and-a-half minutes to play.
But in a game when both offenses moved up and down the field effortlessly and combined for a Super Bowl record 1,151 yards, Brady had the ball swatted from his grasp and it was recovered by Philadelphia to all but seal New England’s fate.
The Eagles went on to kick a field goal to extend their lead to eight points and prevented the Patriots from engineering a last-minute, game-tying drive.
Up 15-6, the Eagles had a chance to build a comfortable lead towards the end of the first half but intended receiver Alshon Jeffrey deflected a Foles pass that was intercepted by Patriots defensive back Duron Harmon steps from the end zone.
The turnover proved costly as the Patriots marched 90 yards back down the field in less than three minutes, in a drive that was capped by a James White touchdown to pull within 15-12.
However, the Eagles replied with an impressive drive of their own that resulted in a touchdown on a gutsy trick play on fourth down from the Patriots one-yard line.
The Eagles, opting not to kick a field goal, snapped the ball to rookie running back Corey Clement, who flipped the ball to tight end Trey Burton, who then threw to a wide-open Foles for a walk-in touchdown and a 22-12 halftime lead.
It marked the end of a wild opening half that included missed extra points, a missed field goal and a botched Patriots attempt at a trick play of their own when a wide-open Brady failed to haul in an intended pass.
The Patriots looked poised to collect a record-tying sixth Super Bowl in 17 seasons when Brady threw his third touchdown -- this one a short pass to Rob Gronkowski with about nine minutes to play -- to give his team their first lead of the game, 33-32.
But the Patriots had no answer for the Foles-led Eagles.
‘LOSING SUCKS’ Patriots coach Bill Belichick took the blame for the loss while Gronkowski, who was playing in his first game since suffering a concussion two weeks ago, said he knew his team were going to be in for a battle.
“You just knew that it was going to be a shootout the whole game and it was going to take all 60 minutes,” said Gronkowski. “Unfortunately, we just didn’t come up with the most opportunities to make to win the game.”
Brady finished with a Super Bowl record 505 passing yards and three touchdowns but could not deliver when it mattered most, his desperate pass falling to the ground in the end zone as time expired.
Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles for winning their First Super Bowl Championship.
