IT’S FUNKY LITTLE OCS HOUR
I’ve been working on a comic called “CMYK” - It’s about  down-on-his-luck inventor Nathan Vargas, his nephew Joey, his weapons-dealer-slash-long-time-friend-slash-very-very-very-close-friend-slash-it’s-complicated Eddie, and young private eye Moss uncovering a gigantic conspiracy in the city they live in involving multiple unsolved disappearances. It’s kinda a combination of cyperpunk and detective noir aesthetics!
The first thing is a lineup, the second is Moss’s initial ref sheet, and the third is an old mockup cover of a kinda early version of the story!

2-"Heart of the City" - monoprint - 8"x10" - April 2013 (available) “Heart of the City” is an early work for me, done at a time when I hadn’t really formed my artistic thought or body of work. It is a print, and I have yet to study much about printmaking. “Heart of the City” doesn’t look much like the other things I’d put in this body called “Deconstructing Reality.” And yet, the way it came together DOES represent this Process way-of-working. One spontaneous day, our drawing instructor took us into the Print Shop, to let us explore some of the processes there. So we got to experiment with some different styles of printmaking, and this piece came out of that. This was the most “final” kind of piece I had formed up to that time, a piece that truly felt like my own instead of based on a particular assignment. And yet, “Heart of the City” is an important piece for me. Not only do I like the way it looks, but I also like the spontaneous way it came together, and I like the way that the rough, quick layers of color interact with the more refined and planned drawing, printed in black. “Heart of the City” also represents a time when I felt so much more connected than I do now. But underneath, I think you can see all the rough edges of color, the tension with the reality we’ve been given.
