By Chris Mooney February 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. ET Rapidly warming oceans are cutting into the underside of the Earth’s widest glacier and posing a major sea-level-rise threat, startling new data and images show. Using an underwater robot at Thwaites Glacier, researchers have determined that warm water is getting channeled into crevasses in what the researchers called “terraces” — essentially, upside-down trenches — and carving out gaps under the ice. As the ice then flows toward the sea, these channels enlarge and become future potential break points, where the floating ice shelf comes apart and produces huge icebergs. The biggest revelation: Ice melt is very uneven, with relatively slow loss in flat areas of the underside of the glacier. But the warm water entering Thwaites Glacier’s crevasses pose a serious threat, according to Britney Schmidt, the Cornell based-scientist who is the lead researcher behind Icefin and deployed it with a group of 12 other researchers who encamped on the ice. “The warm water is getting into the weak spots of the glacier, and kind of making everything worse,” Schmidt said. “It shouldn’t be like that," Schmidt continued. "That’s not what the system would look like if it wasn’t being forced by climate change.” FULL ARTICLE: Warming seas are carving into massive Antarctic glacier that could trigger sea level rise https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/02/15/glacier-ice-melt-ocean-warming/ #climatechange #climatechangeisreal https://www.instagram.com/p/CosKfNKrLYD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Climate Change Health Risks: Exploring Altered Climates
The global phenomenon of climate change is not only reshaping the planet’s physical landscapes but also significantly impacting human health. As weather patterns shift, temperatures rise, and extreme events become more frequent, the intricate interplay between the environment and our well-being becomes increasingly evident. In this article, we delve into the health risks posed by altered climates…

A Poem
Did I write another poem? Yes, yes I did. This was inspired by the summery weather in my area and I allowed my wonderful mind to do the rest. May I present: Calm. Enjoy <3
Have you ever laid on the grass
And listened?
Listened
To the choirs of birds,
The wind running through the trees,
And the dancing windchimes on your neighbors door?
Have you felt so calm
That you realized:
What a crime it would be to disturb it?
Have you ever laid on the ground
And watched?
Watched
The grass waltz in the breeze,
The flowers stretching toward the sun,
And the trees sway to an unheard song?
Have you felt so calm
That you realized:
What a crime it would be to disturb it?
Have you ever floated on the water
And listened?
Listened
To the rush of the current,
The fish darting about,
And the silence wading in your ears?
Have you felt so calm
That you realized:
What a crime it would be to disturb it?
Have you ever gazed up at the sky
And watched?
Watched
A sunset be painted on the sky,
Or the clouds playing tag with one another,
While the sun plays peek-a-boo?
Have you felt so calm
That you realized:
What crime would it be to disturb it?
Have you listened?
Listened to sirens screaming in the streets?
Listened to news about the polar ice caps giving up?
Listened to news about drought and pollution?
Have you watched?
Watched the sky bleed yellow with smoke and haze?
Watched trash lurch onto beaches uncontrollably?
Watched people’s lungs cry for oxygen that doesn’t exist?
Have you no longer felt the calm
That you realized:
What a crime it is to disturb it?
Have you yet realized:
What a crime WE commit by disturbing it?

The climate crisis is an existential threat to life on Earth. To reduce the magnitude of the crisis’ impacts, we must limit global warming to 1.5°C, as decided in the Paris Agreement. Only decisive action will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for climate change. Donate to Climate Change
Many nonprofits working to combat climate change are not at liberty to say who their benefactors are. This is because the majority of high-profile donors for this cause prefer to remain anonymous.
Tumblr media
Charities and Nonprofits that work on climate change often do not reveal their donors for a number of reasons. These are primarily either that the donor prefers anonymity or because they have been pressured to hide the names by a non-climate change organization, or sponsor.
Nonprofits all over the world have been struggling with maintaining funding in light of falling public interest in climate change issues and many have had to lay off staff members as a result.
—Climate change charity is the act of donating to a non-governmental organization that is working to help people, animals and the Earth as a whole adapt to climate change or mitigate its effects. Some climate change charities aim to educate people about the risks of climate change and what they can do about it.
Some organizations focus on one particular area that is impacted by climate change; for example, Greenpeace focuses on lobbying and activism work, while the Union of Concerned Scientists focuses on science communication around the topic. Organizations like these have been pivotal in bringing attention to what is happening in relation to climate change.
Educational groups tend to focus on educating their communities about how they can reduce their own footprint and make changes in their lives so that they are contributing less towards global warming
In order for there to be a future with a livable planet, we need more people who are willing to take action by donating money and/or taking lifestyle changes.
—The world is dealing with a drastic climate change that threatens our planet and the lives of many. Knowing how to help should be a vested interest for everyone.
There are many nonprofit organizations that aim to protect the environment, but there are also those who focus on climate change specifically. The money donated to any given organization is then directed towards causes that relate to one's own interests within this topic.
In addition, there are also efforts by individuals and charities alike to help those in need who have been affected by the changing climate in their own communities around the world.

The science of climate change has achieved an increasing consensus among people across the globe. The evidence shows that human health will be affected adversely in many ways. Knowledge is still limited in many areas. A specific characteristic of climate change-related risks is that the underlying risks themselves change over time.

#climateemergency: this is not a hypothetical future. This is reality right now. 40 degree summers in the uk. Wildfires across Europe. Animal habitats and people's homes destroyed. This is what #climatechange looks like in real life. This is what #extremeweather is. We need strong and immediate action, not empty promises, blame, and passing the responsibility to the "next government" or the "next generation". #climatechange #londonsburning #londonheatwave #climatechangeisreal #climatecrisis #climatecatastrophe #londonfires #heatwave #heatwave2022 Get to it @fiannafail @finegael @conservatives @uklabour (at United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgNLdSHsEgZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

By Chris Mooney, Brady Dennis and Sarah Kaplan August 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET For residents of the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, the United States’ recent success in clinching a major piece of climate change legislation may feel like too little, too late. Over the past 40 years, as the world’s largest historical emitter of greenhouses gases repeatedly failed to take significant action on the climate, the region surrounding Svalbard has warmed at least four times faster than the global average, according to significant new research published Thursday. The study suggests that warming in the Arctic is happening at a much faster rate than many scientists had expected. And while U.S. lawmakers this summer hashed out the details of a massive bill to speed their nation’s shift toward cleaner energy — the culmination of months of deliberations — the new findings were just the latest visceral reminder that the planet’s changing climate isn’t waiting around for human action. Recent studies on subjects including tree mortality in North America and evidence of weakening ice-shelves in Antarctica, combined with a stream of extreme weather events that include last month’s European heat wave and torrential floods of late in Kentucky and South Korea, are providing steady evidence of global warming’s intensifying impact on the planet. The Arctic is where some of the shifts are most severe. Svalbard, a cluster of Arctic islands famed for populations of polar bears, experienced its hottest June on record. A record 40 billion tons of ice from the archipelago had melted into the ocean by the end of July. Melting permafrost and unstable mountain slopes are threatening homes.
