I spotted Erik at the Haunted House on Clifton Hill by the Niagara Falls while I was walking past. Probably should’ve filmed him a bit longer, but I had a bus to catch!

Mish-Mash Monday
A new week and lots of data/info. coming on a variety of fronts. Today’s post is less about one thing and more about a few things, a bit of smorgasbord to start the week. State by State SNF Data/CLA: Back at the start of the month, I wrote a post on the state of the SNF industry, incorporating CLA’s (Clifton Larsen Allen) annual SNF cost report analysis data.  That post is here:…

The Clifton House Mystery (1978)
A family moves into a new house when paranormal things start to occur, unravelling the mystery seems to be their only option to put their spirits to rest.
As a mystery it was fun to explore as there were a fair few clues and each character adds something to the development of the explanation. The child actors work out rather well, particularly the young boys. It’s unusual in that there are multiple ghosts so it makes the solution more complex and allows for more variety in the visitations.
Over six episodes the pace slows quite a bit in places where it could have been tightened up rather than jumping to a more mundane conversation the morning after an appearance. The subject matter could also have stood being a little heavier given that it was a 7pm show and a more relatable kind of closure would have made the overall result more effective.
The contrast between the inquisitive nature of the children and the darker side of the story with blood and bodies makes it engaging, even if the threat never quite reaches potential. There’s also some interesting history used as the context for the ghosts which also provides some needed subtext for the rest of the story.
It would have been a better result if it’d ended on part 5 with the first few minutes of the 6th part added onto the end since the rest of the final part had little left to occur. The little twist also felt unnecessary since extending it beyond its worth meant that something else had to happen and there was only one real option.
5/10 -Can’t find a better example of average-

Gareth moved on, working as a knight in the Westerlands, he was only 24 when his parents passed, leaving his brother as the head of the family, he quickly arranged a marriage for him and while Melesa was lovely, Gareth had accepted that his would always love Dory, and nothing would compare to that. He did eventually come to love his wife, though it was different, he felt like it could grow into something more.
Melesa was kind, everything Gareth could hope for in a wife, but they were married a short three years before the small poxs ran through the family, it took Melesa's life, and while Sebaston was sick, he made it through. At that point, Gareth decided he was better off not loving, he dedicated his life to fighting, which would be a good thing as Aegon's conquest was upon them. Gareth fought in every battle he could, he was lucky to escape the Field of Fire, though he heard that his friend was not so lucky. While Gareth hadn't been able to face Dory, he had still remained friends with Jaesin, they fought alongside each other, and before the Field, Jaesin had asked Gareth to watch over Dory, should anything happen to him. Gareth promised he would, though he wasn't sure how he would face his first love.
