#civilian death tw
Short Prompt #1293
CW: death threats, near-death experience, implied past character death.
"Do I have your attention now?" the villain questioned with a smile that threatened to sour on a dime, their gun held against Civilian's head. The civilian, already knocked out from the explosion, couldn't even stiffen in fear. "Or must I crack open such a precious skull before you start listening?"
The hero, for once in their life, had no witty comeback or quip. That was their lover in Villain's grasp, their everything. Hero stood tense, ready to rush forward, and yet too petrified to move.
Was this what the villain had felt like all those years ago when Hero had let their partner fall?

Suggestion: A Hero x Civilian story where Civilian is held at weapon-point by Villain and maybe an awesome fight scene? I just love hostages and standoffs!
Hello @courtneygacha this is a great suggestion! Please enjoy your request.
Warnings: hostage situation, guns, gun point, threat of death, physical violence
Hero’s mouth went dry as they reached the roof top where Villain had demanded to meet. Villain was there. And so was Civilian. Civilian stood completely still as Villain pressed a gun to their temple. “So nice of you to join us, Hero,” Villain smiled as Hero made their presence known.
“Let Civilian go. Your beef is with me.” Hero hoped their voice sounded more confident than they felt. They couldn’t stand for Civilian to be hurt.
“And that is precisely why I have them, Hero. My beef is with you. They’re merely caught in the crossfire. Isn’t that such a shame?” They rubbed their cheek along the top of Civilian’s head. “They are so lovely.”
Civilian desperately tried to catch Hero’s gaze, but Hero couldn’t tear their eyes from Villain’s. “They are. And all the more reason for you to let them go. It’s me you want.”
Villain never broke eye contact with Hero. “Maybe I changed my mind.” They inhaled deeply as they continued to rub their cheek like a cat along Civilian’s head. “Maybe I want them now.”
Before Hero could open their mouth to reply, Civilian rocked their head back and up, smashing their head into Villain’s nose. Villain shrieked with pain as Civilian ducked and Hero charged forward. Civilian rolled away from the melee, as Hero began to pummel Villain. Hero did not relent in their attack on Villain. They couldn’t. Civilian was in danger if they didn’t stop.
But Villain was also just as powerful. Hero initially got a few hits in by surprise before Villain regained their footing to fight back. The two supers fought ferociously as Civilian looked on in horror. Was Hero powerful enough to defeat Villain? Civilian couldn’t stand the thought of Hero being hurt, or even killed, on their behalf. And they couldn’t stand the thought of being trapped with Villain forever.
Hero hurt. Their body ached. Villain was physically more powerful than them. Each hit drained Hero of power, of energy, as pain began to take over. But they couldn’t let Villain win. Wouldn’t let Villain win. And with a final burst of energy, Hero put everything they had into a single punch that connected with Villain’s jaw. Villain collapsed as the punch rendered them unconscious.
Hero sighed with relief as they sank to their knees. Civilian was safe.
“Hero!” Civilian surged forward as Hero slumped over.
“‘M ‘ere,” Hero croaked, barely having the energy to lift their head. “‘M ok.”
“You’re so stupid!” Civilian said as they lifted Hero’s head, kissing them softly and gently. “Why would you take on Villain alone? They are so powerful.”
Hero blinked up at Civilian. “Couldn’t let them hurt you. Couldn’t stand it.”
Civilian smiled. “And I can’t stand to see you hurt. Come on, let’s go home.” Civilian helped Hero rise. They put a hand out to steady Hero as they began to walk.
“That sounds wonderful,” Hero murmured as they leaned on Civilian. They were glad Civilian was made of tougher things than they give Civilian credit for. And they were glad they were able to stop Villain in time.

{Soap after watching R/n takedown a hoard of Deadmite drones (That what the monster are called) he jogs up to R/n as she goes back to her bike.]
Soap: Hey, can I be your guy in the chair?
R/n: What?
Soap: Y’know how there's a guy, with the headset, tellin’ the other guy where to go? Like... like if ya were stuck in a burning building, I could tell ya where to go, 'cause there'd be screens around me, I could swivel around them, cause I could be your guy in the chair!
R/n: You want to help me?
Soap: Yeah.
R/n: Even though the rest of your task force wants the rider dead for what happen to Roach?
Soap: They’re still coming to terms wit’ it, But I understand why ya had to do it. He...That thing wasn’t Roach anymore. it was just a monster using his face. Soo, can I help?
[R/n think about it, then nods.]
R/n, as she tosses Soap this Hercules-beetle shape phone: there’s a bomb shelter probably like 40 yards away from my home, use that to get in...But, don’t misunderstand, this is a temporary arrangement until my partner comes back from Austria..
[Soap was shaking in his boots with excitement. until, his mind replayed what she had said.]
Soap:....Partner? Wait, Hold on! (R/n drives away.) There’s another Rider?!
{Deadmites are demonic parasites that use living or dead humans as puppets it it’s shape and size is similar to a human heart (It replaces the heart in the body.) and it can mutate the host’s bodies turning them into flesh craving monsters, Roach fell victim to one, after sustaining life threating wounds and died during a mission, for weeks no one noticed Roach’s sudden change in personality...
Until he started acting more violent during missions and smelling bad. The mite realized it’s hosts body was starting to decay and break apart, so it went looking for a new one, it had it’s sights set on Price. luckily for the captain, R/n saved him. but unluckily for R/n.
Ghost had assumingly witnessed the Kamen rider murder his surrogate little brother in cold blood, which put R/n’s alter ego on the 1-4-1′s shit list....]

Cass at a therapist trying to explain why her scars aren't self harm like yes not all of them were from her father but the rest were just from natural moments like when she deliberately chose to stand in front of a knife throwing assassin rather than risk the tiny one per cent chance he could hit the people running away, or the time where stabbing herself in the leg was just the easiest and quickest way to break the mind control of the latest villain. Her pain tolerance is so high it barely even felt like a pinch and if she'd chosen another way that didn't leave a scar maybe she would have been too late and someone could have died. So don't worry, she doesn't self harm. These are all just Very Reasonable Scars and the only reason she has them is that she wasn't Good Enough to not cause them. Why is the therapist writing more notes and scheduling in a year's worth of sessions. Cass just explained why she was fine.

The idea that "a thousand civilian deaths over one soldier's death" just tells me when people aren't ready to engage in conversations about war beyond what I'd tell to my small brother, it is absurd that so many people genuinely, unironically think like that
The "get them before they get me" attitude will kill us all, and for what?

I remember you mentioning somewhere Davey's fear of Minnie getting "Exploded" by a superhero (in the context of bringing her on a mission I think), is this something that happens often in their world? Super hero's going no-mercy on villains just because "you're a bad guy" even if they're just regular people?
short answer: yeag
long answer: it definitely happens in their world, but isn't exactly a given, if that makes sense. the vast majority of heroes focus on incapacitating, driving off or capturing villains rather than Sending Them To The Shadow Realm As It Were, but at the same time, that's less because "a hero would NEVER stoop so low as to kill someone even a villain!!" and more "it's bad optics if the guys we let fly around the city are constantly publicly killing people". (there are officially sponsored heroes whose main selling point is that they'll off villains, but those aren't the ones they're putting on tv, you know? that's more of an under-the-table deal. besides the point, anyway.)
as it stands, Minnie's more at risk of A) other, less principled villains (since she's a defected superhero heir and you KNOW there's some villains out there who would LOVE to be the one who took down the Armstrong Kid) or B) just overestimating her own abilities and falling off a building or something. either way, Davey, as The Adult In The Room, is dedicated to making sure neither of those things happen.
(he is also, quietly, to himself, a little bit worried about the possibility Minnie's folks are going to track them down and take her back. she's never said anything to him or buck besides UGH MY PARENTS ARE SO LAME AND SUPERHERO TRAINING SUCKS type complaining, but like, he can read the room. a thirteen year old doesn't wait till her folks leave the house, pack a bag, walk miles alone to track down her supervillain uncle and start living on his couch if there is Zero Friction Or Problems At Home. he doesn't wanna risk sending her back until he knows for sure it's safe for her, physically and emotionally.)

CW: Near death, panic, separation
"Superhero. Superhero, stop. You need medical attention as well."
"No— No, I'm fine— I have— I have to go with them— Please let me go with them—"
Caretaker stumbled a couple steps away from Medic in the direction of Civilian, but they lost balance and almost fell. Before they hit the ground, Medic caught them.
"Superhero, come on." Medic started to pull Caretaker away from Civilian.
"No— Please— I'm fine! I'll be fine! Just let me go with them!" Despite being hardly strong enough to stand after their lapse in control, Caretaker tried to push Medic away, fighting to be with Civilian. "You can treat me when we get back to base— Please— I need to be with them!"
"Superhero, there's not enough room in the ambulance for you to go with them." Medic said, exasperated.
"There is!" Caretaker insisted, falling to their knees in an attempt to slip out of Medics hold. The tactic worked, but Caretaker couldn't get back up. When they realized this, they let out a sob, clutching at the ground, their nails scraping over the concrete. "Please— I have to!"
"Why? Who are they to you?" Medic asked, pulling Caretaker back to their feet and letting them lean against their shoulder. "There really isn't enough room in the ambulance. They need any extra space they have in order to move and start treating them."
Caretaker clung tightly to Medic, leaning on them heavily. Crying was quickly sapping the rest of their strength. "They can't die— Not like this. Please, not like this..."
"Superhero, you need medical treatment. Trust your team. If anyone can help Civilian, it's them."
"Take me back to base." Caretaker pleaded, voice soft.
"Gladly. Come on."

That other person whose cousin asked if the Autobots were from an alternate dimension was probably on the same shit as my niece who called to ask me if I was sure the Autobots weren't regular robots who became sentient after the dead bodies of murdered children were put inside them. My niece lives in a small town also in another state called Hurricane and from what I heard everyone there believes in ghosts. I'm going to guess that other commenter's cousin also lives in a small town because small towns are just like that. There's just something in their water making people act so.
