Jinlong! I’ll be getting to the rest of the squad eventually also. Not sure how I feel about the colors but I made this in a rush so I’m not gonna think to hard on it.
Reblogs are Greatly Appreciated!

#perlesaerie So the long sleep is over for the periodical cicadas.* But not to worry. We’ll still have our annual cicadas singing here in the South through the summer. Some find it annoying. I find it soothing, perhaps reassuring - nature doing her thing regardless of what’s going on in our world. I love walking through the night or sitting out on the balcony listening to their mating song. Wonder if they know, they’re also courting death. *Whether the cicada is periodical (every 13-17 years) or annual, the purpose of the emergence is the same: to mate and die. Of the approximately 150 species of cicadas in North America, only seven species have synchronized development and periodical emergences. Four species have 13-year life cycles and three species have 17-year life cycles. #photooftheday #instabham #videooftheday #walking #cicadas #nature # https://www.instagram.com/p/COvDFaYHNcW/?igshid=1hjtd3r1dqrmj

cicadas have three dots between their big eyes, called ocelli, and are used to detect light. this reminds me of furbies who have a three-bumped cloud shape between their eyes which is a light sensor. that is all

My sister and I were digging in the garden today and we found six different cicada nymphs. We reburied them so they could have some time to get ready but it really did put me in a holiday mood

A quick thing I put together in honor of the upcoming periodical cicada emergence! Pikkri gives you some fun facts about them!
(transcript of my handwriting under the cut)
What you need to know about the Brood X Periodical Cicada emergence
2021 is the year of the Brood X emergence, the largest of the 17 year broods, spread out across 15 states! They’re expected to start emerging throughout May.
Periodical cicadas spend 17 or 13 years (depending on the brood) as nymphs underground. When the time is right, they emerge at the same time and shed their skin.
Emerging all at once is a survival mechanism, used to overwhelm predators. The cicadas are free to mate and lay eggs after predators are too full to eat anymore. They can emerge in densities of up to 1.5 million per acre!
Cicadas pose no threat to humans. They don’t even have a mouth to bite with! Their mouth is in the shape of a straw, used to pierce and suck liquid from roots.
Only the male cicadas can sing. They have an organ on their abdomen called a Tymbal that produces the noise.
I hope you learned something about our friend, the Periodical Cicada (Magicicada septendecim)!

obsessed with this 10 year old forum where half the people are whining about being viciously attacked and bitten by cicadas, and the other half are people going “cicadas are harmless, you guys are just pussies”
