"We're all traipsing among the mortals," Ren said, blinking behind his shades. Lulu's irony had missed him completely. However, she hit every wooden duck on its faded target and won a large stuffed effigy for it, which he labored to keep in the crook of his arm. Some rabbit of a different color, a puffy, implausible pink. An un-Godly pink? Perhaps. 

"May I ask," he said, "what makes your sister complete beyond theoretical improvement? I always thought you were the perfect one. Cruel, but perfect."

Ren gazed into the stuffed rabbit's dead eyes, its stitched-together smile. Strange how humans imposed their emptiness onto inanimate objects. Empty vessels craftings smaller vessels. For what purpose, he couldn't say. Recently he’d heard poltergeists were now fond of such things as ‘toaster ovens.’

He was glad to have chosen the man's form. The same vessel from the last century, the skin the Ren wore in the year of their Lord nineteen-twenty-two when he'd last seen Lucifer. One day they could come to a permanent arrangement, Ren and this man. It was fated. Though the Ren itself was beginning to think Lulu liked the arrangement they already had, the one that allowed him to occupy the man's body for two-quarters of a century before he was expulsed to the land between lands for double the time.  

"Does it bother you that you can't go 'Upstairs?'" Ren followed Lulu as she stalked through the fair, her heels crunching on caramel popcorn and silver streamers, and stopped when she paused in front of the Ferris wheel. "Or is it that your sister doesn't go to Hell?" 

The man downstairs, the soul buried deep within the body the Ren populated, the soul the Ren sat on, so it could walk by Lucifer's side, looked ill at ease. Ren shoved it down.

"I apologize if I'm failing to see the problem."

While Darsten does have quite the tendency to get sicker than a dog, no one has ever shown any care. Maybe the one's having to tend to him, but no one else. It was odd- and a little disturbing- to him that suddenly someone was asking. He had to sit with it for a moment before deciding he liked being asked. Now there was the worry if it was sincere.

"I'm in perfect health, Captain..." He smiled wider, "Thank you."

Thanks! It does feel like a really shitty cold rn so I feel pretty lucky. My fiancée (who has been exposed since we. Sleep in the same bed lmao) is taking the week off work just in case and I am too. Hopefully it stays mild 🤞🏻

I’m a great big wussy but I’d recommend Attack the Block (Get that Snitch will live in your head rent free), Psycho, Young Frankenstein, and Invaders from Mars (the 1950s one).

Thank you for the recs! I really want to watch Alien, but I haven't heard of the rest (except for Psycho, of course). I'll have to check them out!
