Movies, video games - the whole shebang.

Music is really just such an amazing art form, decorating time with the vibrancy of sounds, instruments, melodies

Game soundtracks that slap (I'm sure you know most of these, but eh what do I care): Hollow Knight (obviously, Christopher Larkin knows his shit) Risk of Rain 1&2 Hades (Darren Korb is a madman) Doom (again, another clear choice) Octopath Traveller Death's Door and Moonlighter (David Fenn has a niche and it's lit) Furi

I have many others I'd like to mention, but I will be talking about these and more in time to come as I think of things to say other than "Good Shit!"

One of my favourite things about the hollow knight soundtrack is how it loops back on itself. Like how the false knight theme has bits and pieces of the radiance theme (around 0:55 and 2:24) so that when you fight the radiance you feel some kind of deja vu. You’ve never fought this being before but the subtleties in the soundtrack make you feel that sense of familiarity. And that’s because you are familiar. You’ve been fighting her the whole time. The radiance is the source of the corruption and has been your main opponent without you even knowing it over the course of the game. And even the music demonstrates that by hiding her theme into the first boss you fight (probably).

I will never not obsess over this absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack and Christopher Larkin did not have to go this in-depth for a game about sad bugs.

Similarities between the Hollow Knight from Hollow Knight and Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica

My interpretation of the Hollow Knight is based on the vocal cover of "Sealed Vessel" by Man on the Internet.

The Hollow Knight and Sayaka have a knight theme; the Hollow Knight has the word "knight" in their name, while Sayaka wields swords and believes in heroism as a magical girl. Her witch form, Oktavia von Seckendorff, also carries a sword and dons a helmet and armor.

Both characters strive for perfection and are willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones and worlds, even if it leads to tragic consequences. The Hollow Knight was intended by their father, the Pale King, to contain the Radiance and save Hallownest from the Infection as the perfect Vessel. The Hollow Knight wanted to fulfill their father's wishes because they loved him. Sayaka becomes a magical girl to heal her friend, Kyosuke, because she is in love with him and determined to protect her city from witches after Mami dies. Unfortunately, unforeseeable circumstances cause them to lose their sanity and succumb to despair as they realize their ideals are impossible to achieve and their efforts are futile. This despair turns them into monsters.

As it turns out, the Hollow Knight was not as pure as the Pale King had believed, making them vulnerable to the Radiance's influence and unable to fully contain the Infection. The Hollow Knight is in agony until the player character either absorbs the Infection into themself or defeats the Radiance once and for all. Sayaka eventually discovers that everything, including herself and her wish, is not simply black and white. Being a magical girl also means sacrificing one's soul and fighting witches endlessly without reward. Upon losing all hope in herself, love, and justice, Sayaka turns into the witch Oktavia von Seckendorff before Kyoko sacrifices herself to put her out of her suffering.
