Make Them Shut Up - Christen Press/Reader
prompt: R has a migraine and wants to kill everyone. Christen said no though so R just deals with the migraine
warnings: none

(Y/N) POV
I glared at any and everything was making noise at the moment. I didn’t care who or what it was. Whether is be the five dynamic best friends or even Charlie who was playing with Kelley. Everything seemed even louder today than it normally did. It, of course, didn’t help that Crystal seemed determined to have a dance party as well at breakfast. And she was committed to getting as many people involved as possible.
The only people I seemed to currently be able to stand was Alyssa and Becky who weren’t making much noise. It was the biggest reason why I had sat with the two this morning. But it didn’t seem to matter as everyone else had decided to be so loud today.
“Are you okay?” a voice asked as the person sat to my left. I ducked my head as I looked at Christen. “Did you sleep okay last night?”
“Not really,” I said.
“Was it falling asleep?” Christen asked. I knew that I would have a bit of a hard time falling asleep as Christen and I hadn’t been roomed together and I had gotten so used to sharing a bed with her by now. “If we have to we can get the rooms changed.”
“Awwww, did little (Y/N) have trouble falling asleep last night because she couldn’t sleep next to her girlfriend?” Tobin teased.
I sent her a glare as I threw a napkin at her. I wasn’t in the mood for any of the teasing she sent me thanks to the throbbing in my head at the moment. I sighed in relief though as it seemed Christen had threaded her hand into my hair and found the spot where the pain was the worst.
“Is it a migraine?” Christen asked. I didn’t respond as I leaned my head into her hand. “Is it what kept you from sleeping?”
“It just made it really bad,” I admitted.
The five dynamic best friends all started to yell. I sent them a glare again as they continued on for a few moments.
“I’m going to murder everyone.”
“No.”
“Then I’ll murder those five.”
“You can’t murder anyone, (Y/N).”
I turned my glare to Christen.
“No.”
I crossed my arms as I leaned back into my chair. It was going to be a long day.
“You need to eat,” Christen said.
I rolled my eyes at that. Normally I would let Christen baby me when I felt like this, but I never did whenever we were at camp.
“I’ll be fine.”
“(Y/N), you have to eat.”
“No, thank you.”
“Do you feel like you’re going to be sick?” Christen asked.
“It’s fine. I just can’t eat, I’ll make sure to eat at lunch and sit out of weights today,” I assured her. I knew how to handle my training during my migraines. “I only have to worry about it if I’m feeling lightheaded, but I’m not.”
“You’re not going to practice today,” Christen said. I turned to look at her. “If you feel that bad then you’re not practicing.”
“No,” I shook my head. I had been doing this far too long. I knew my limits. “I’m going to practice today.”
“No, you aren’t,” Christen denied.
“Christen-”
More yells from the five dynamic best friends broke out causing me to glare at them again.
“I’m going to kill them.”
“(Y/N), no murdering.”
“Then make them shut up.”
Christen pulled her hand from my hair as she went to stand up but it only caused me to whine. Christen paused and turned to me.
“Do you want me to go tell them to shut up or stay here with you?”
I didn’t answer immediately as I looked between Christen and the other table. I really didn’t want Christen to leave, but I did want them to quiet down.
I didn’t have to make a decision though as Becky stood up. I furrowed my brow as I looked at her in confusion. We watched as Becky moved over to the other table before she began to talk to the younger players. Christen’s hand made its way back into my hair where she began rubbing my scalp again. I was a little surprised when the five dynamic best friends turned to look toward us but I turned my attention back to Christen who had firmly decided that I wasn’t going to be practicing today.
Becky eventually came back to sit with us again. I hadn’t even realized that Crystal’s music had stopped. Or that Kelley and Charlie were being much quieter. I was just focused on softly talking with Christen.
“Thank you, Becky,” Christen said.
I pulled my attention away from Christen to where Becky was taking her seat again. She only sent us a smile and I gave her a small nod.
“Just making sure that we do everything we can to keep (Y/N) in top shape,” Becky assured.
It didn’t take much longer as I was waiting for Christen to finish eating. Once she had, we both were headed up to my room. We quickly got to my room where I grabbed my migraine medicine before we headed down the hall to Christen and Tobin’s room.
Christen gave me one of her hoodies. I waited to climb into the bed with Christen until after I had taken my meds. But when I did climbed into the bed, Christen pulled me on top of her chest.
“I think you should go see a specialist when we get back from camp,” Christen said softly.
“Seen them before, they haven’t helped.”
“(Y/N), they cause you so much pain. I really would like for you to go see someone new when we get out of camp,” Christen said softly.
I looked up at her. I found Christen looking down at me. I really didn’t want to go see anyone about the migraines as I had already had seen so many people about them and no one had been able to help.
“Christen, I’ve seen specialists before. No one has been able to help. I’ve figured out how to deal with them,” I said. She shook her head at that. “It’s not fair, I know, but it is what it is.”
“No practice tomorrow.”
“You’re not stopping me from practicing tomorrow,” I said. Christen opened her mouth to argue. “No, you’re not stopping me. I want to play. And I can’t play if I don’t practice. So I’m going to practice tomorrow.”
“Then you’ll go see a specialist when we get back from camp.”
“That’s not fair.”
“I hate seeing you in pain and I refuse to let you play through it. I will go to the coaches.”
“I practice tomorrow. Play in the game.”
“And go see a specialist when we get home.”
“And go see a new specialist when we get home.”
Christen gave me a soft smile at that. She pulled me closer to her as she started to run a hand through my hair.

Ride or Die (Christen Press x Reader) Part 2
Tumblr media
Request - there was also a comment on part one
Part 1
Sorry for any mistakes, please enjoy.
“Hey, baby is everything ready?”
“Yeah, I think so.”
Christen let out a deep sigh, Y/n walking up behind her and hugging Christen from behind.
“What’s wrong?”
“I know the team is going to love you but I’m nervous.”
“It’s okay to be nervous angel. They already know about us, so at least that’s out of the way.”
Christen sighed again, about to come up with something else to worry her when there was a knock on the door.
“I’ll get it.” Y/n said leaving a kiss on Press’s shoulder, heading to greet the team.
Just as Y/n opened the door, Sonnett raised her fist to knock again, nearly hitting Y/n. Sonnett gave a semi-apologetic look mumbling “Sorry”.
“It’s alright, come on in guys.”
-----
Everyone comes in with their own snacks and such, Christen and Y/n providing more snacks like nachos. The team getting ready to select a movie, some even suggesting a show to binge until the early hours of the morning.
The team had found places to relax while Ash and Ali along with Y/n and Christen were on the couch.
The two couples watched as the team battled it out. Y/n noticed Christen was trying to put her hair in a simple braid.
“Let me baby,” Y/n mumbled to Press, getting on the back of the couch so Christen didn’t have to move as Y/n braided her hair.
Y/n missed the smiles from Ash and Ali but Christen didn’t, deciding not to point it out.
Some of the team had also noticed the gesture, looking at each other to see how they were going to give the talk.
Christen’s hair was done Y/n moved back, and the two rested against each other, just a handful of players now noticing the two.
-----
Surprisingly the movie was decided and even more surprising is that it was a horror movie.
It didn’t take long for the two to start making their own speculations on why the movie was chosen.
Y/n was leaning towards the idea of the team seeing how easily scared Y/n was. Christen decided to lean more toward how Y/n would react to her being scared.
Luckily for both of them, the movie was one they had seen on one of their first official dates. Although both of them weren’t completely focused on the movie then so there was still a jump scare or two that they didn’t suspect.
In one silent part of the film, everyone got scared by a body falling out of the ceiling nearly deafening each other with their screams.
Y/n had been startled back to reality accidentally zoning out and Christen was admittedly getting a headache from everything.
Before Y/n could raise a question to Press, knowing something was off, Chris simply mumbled “I’ll be right back” and left Y/n on the couch.
Not caring if her teammates were there or not, Y/n moved as quickly as possible to get to Christen to see what was wrong.
Y/n caught up to the woman in their bathroom, seeing Press take some pain medication the concern of one of her old injuries flaring up started to set in.
“I’m getting a headache it’s nothing worth worrying over.”
Christen could sense the uneasiness from Y/n.
So Christen turned toward Y/n, giving a small kiss.
“I promise.”
Y/n just hummed, thinking out loud for a moment.
“You know I could probably still intimidate them into leaving. I haven’t completely trashed my badass reputation in front of them.”
“Yet.”
Y/n chuckled at the comment, “Only for my angel.”
Giving a final kiss they headed back to the group. Kelley makes a joke to the two, “Thought you two got lost back there, we were about to draw straws to see who could take one for the team.”
The two simply rolled their eyes but they were both blushing to some extent, making the group laugh more.
Thinking they’d go back to watching the movie they went back to their spot.
And to everyone’s surprise, Press moved to cuddle with Y/n. As the big spoon and Y/n looking more than content being the little spoon.
Ali and Ash share a knowing look at the couple that everyone missed. The rest were looking at each other again, some started to doubt if they even needed to give Y/n the shovel talk.
-----
With the movie nearing its conclusion, Y/n noticed how Christen’s breathing had evened out.
Carefully moving Christen’s arms that made it to Y/n’s torso, Y/n had gotten up to see Press fast asleep from the pain meds.
Y/n gently picked up and held Press about to carry her to the bedroom but was reminded of the team still being there when one cleared their throat.
“Uhhh...” Y/n took a moment to think of something. Christen distracted Y/n briefly as she held onto Y/n tighter and buried her face in Y/n’s neck, thankfully staying asleep.
“I’m going to make sure Christen gets to bed, I trust all of you remember where the front door is. I’ll be back in a minute.”
Carrying Press to the bedroom, Y/n set her down on the bed. And before Y/n could leave Christen whispered, “Can you stay?”
“I’ll be back in a moment baby.”
Christen nodded and quickly went back to sleep.
-----
Y/n was somewhat surprised to see the team clean up everything, making it nearly spotless, someone even taking care of the plates Y/n had out for everyone.
Biding them all good night and ‘thank you’s Y/n was thrown off when Kelley did the “I’m watching you” gesture.
“I know your game.” And before anything Kelley walked out of the house, happy Press found someone good.
And the team watched Y/n’s head tilt slightly, brows furrowed. They all knew Y/n was too much of a softie to even think about hurting their Press.

The Look of Love
Ali Krieger x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“-It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Says you! It’s going to be so embarrassing for me.”
Ali turns her head and sees you and Kelley bickering back and forth. She can’t help but notice the cute pout on your face as you playfully stump your foot and huff at the defender.
“Now what are you two arguing about?” Alex asks, giving the both of you a pointed look.
“Our friend here has been invited to her brother’s wedding, but she doesn’t have a plus one,” Kelley informs while resting her hands on your shoulders, making you roll your eyes and head over to your locker.
“It’s not how it sounds. My family constantly pesters me about how my siblings are either engaged, married, or even having a kid. I don’t even have a girlfriend! I just don’t want to deal with people asking me where my plus one is on my brother’s special day.” You sigh, shaking your head and pulling your sweaty training jersey over your head.
You only have two siblings; one brother and one sister. Your sister has been married for around two years and is now pregnant with her second child, and now your brother is getting married. A little over a year ago, you were dating a girl you thought would be your endgame until you caught her kissing some other girl at a coffee shop. At the time when invitations were sent, you expected to have someone attending with you, but now you don’t.
“So why don’t you bring a fake date?” Christen shrugs as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, so when she turns around, she notices everyone staring at her. “What?”
“That’s genius! Y/n/n you’ve got to do it.”
Everyone begins to agree with Kelley and Christen while you stay quiet with a hesitant look on your face. Ali also remains silent, observing your reactions to see what your thoughts are about it.
“Guys I- I don’t even know where I would begin to look for someone willing to do something like this, yet learn everything about them within two days.”
“Then one of us can help you!” Kelley says, expanding her arms, gesturing around the whole locker room. “C’mon, it will be a win-win. No family bothering you about your love life and your brother gets his day.”
Thinking of all the pros and cons, you eventually agree to the plan.
“Well, who’s gonna be my girlfriend for a day?” You ask, sighing at how stupid it sounds.
“I can’t because I have plans with Sam in Australia-“
“-me neither, I have to be out of state but the end of tomorrow.”
A bunch of the girls start spitting out excuses and their plans for the week. You just roll your eyes and continue packing your kit bag up.
“I’ll do it.”
Your head immediately snaps up along with everyone else’s. Silence overcomes the room, but you continue to stare at the person who volunteered.
“Wha- wait, seriously?” You stammer with your eyes slightly wider than usual.
“I don’t see why not. I don’t have any plans and I can help you out.” Ali shrugs nonchalantly while the rest of the room remains quiet, silently watching the interaction between you two.
“Oh my god, thank you thank you thank you!” Ali laughs when you bring her into a bear hug and bounce up and down before pulling away slightly, causing your moves to slow.
“It is an open bar, right?” She looks down at you with a teasing smile. You smack her shoulder and begin to pull away before she pulls you back in, laughing at your reaction.
Christen and Alex give each other a knowing look and go back to changing.
“Okay, let’s go over this one last time.” You say, scared that if people start asking questions about your relationship you’re not gonna have the same answers. Your rushing mind is stopped by Ali reaching out and grabbing your hand from across the table.
“Y/n/n, it’s going to be okay. We’ve known each other for years, so all we have to do is say how our first date was and maybe a few other details.” She starts gesturing her breathing by raising her hand up and down and pursing her lips for you to follow her lead.
Once your heart rate goes down to its normal level, you both head into the separate rooms of your apartment to get dressed. The wedding starts in about 2 hours, so you’re both just on time. When you step out of the room and into the living room, you notice Ali staring at you with her eyes widened and mouth slightly slacked.
“What? Does it look bad? Oh god, I cannot deal with the comments of-“ You ramble on while twisting and turning to see if there is something wrong with the dress.
“N-no, no, you just look…stunning.” The tall girl words breathlessly, admiring your loose lilac-colored dress that matches amazingly with your light face of makeup.
You blush and take in her outfit. She stands in a cream-colored suit that compliments your dress perfectly. “You also look great.”
After a minute of just looking at each other, Ali clears her throat and says, “We better get going if we don’t want to be late. M’lady?”
She holds out her arm with an opening between her forearm and bicep for you to slot your own in. You giggle, accepting her gesture while walking to her car. Being the gentlewoman she is, she opens the passenger door for you and offers you a hand so you don’t trip in your heels.
“Here we go.” You mumble before Ali starts driving.
You and Ali walk into the venue hand in hand while scanning over the crowded room.
“Darling!” Looking up you see your mother walking over to you with open arms.
“Hey, mom.” You accept her hug before introducing her to your girlfriend. Ali shakes her hand and makes a small conversation as if it’s the easiest thing on the planet. You begin to space out but a laugh and a hand on your lower back interrupt your thoughts.
“You okay, my love?” The girl next to you asks once her laughter dies down. The name gives you butterflies but you choose to ignore it, knowing that all of this is fake.
The reason you got into your past relationship was because of Ali. You have basically followed her to each and every one of her clubs your whole career. You met in 2013 when you both were signed to Washington Spirit, and you have been attached to each other’s hips since that day. You quickly found yourself blushing and swooning at everything the brunette did after a few months of knowing her and you carried those feelings all these years. The only people who know are Alex and Christen.
Instead of confronting your love for the defender, you tried everything to try and vanish them. Eventually, you got into a relationship with your ex when you finally started to feel something for someone else, but that ended up in the dumper.
Now you’re afraid that all your feelings are going to flood and resurface. Sure you never stopped loving her, but it didn’t feel as strong. The fact she is your fake girlfriend for the day is going to make it 10x harder to ignore the constant butterflies in your stomach and the blood rushing to your face with every word she speaks to you.
“Yeah, I’m alright. Don’t worry baby, you might get wrinkles.” You tease while wiping your thumb over her cheeks, causing the talker girl to squat your hand away with a laugh.
“I am not that old.”
You have a 6-year age gap, but you both never think of it because you’re so connected in ways that most people who are the same age are.
“Keep telling yourself that, granny.”
Your mother watches the interaction between you two with a soft smile before excusing herself to go talk to other members of your family. Your mom has always been supportive of you and always stood by your side through the tough times, so seeing you look so happy makes her heart squeeze.
After the vows and rings are exchanged, everyone heads over to the room where the reception is going to be held. Ali’s hand never leaving the small of your back, guides you to the room with music blaring out from it.
Most people go out onto the dance floor and sway to the music while you both find a table to sit at. She pulls out the chair for you to take a seat and places a kiss on your cheek, making your face turn all red.
“I’m gonna go get us some drinks, I’ll be right back.”
Once she’s out of sight, your mom pops a squat across from you and gives you an unreadable expression.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You ask warily, scared of what might come out of her mouth.
“She’s not your girlfriend.”
You’re taken aback by the sudden admission and start to stumble over your words. “Wha- what do you mean?”
“Oh please, you can’t lie without me figuring it out. I have mom instincts.” She states matter of factly while sipping on her champagne.
You take a look around to see if anyone is near you and lean in so she can hear you clearly without having to shout. “Okay, we’re not dating but no one can know.”
“Why did you even lie in the first place?”
“Because I can’t deal with Aunt Mary or Uncle John constantly asking when I’m going to settle down and why I haven’t yet. At least not on my brother’s and sister-in-law’s night.” You sigh, looking down at your fingers as you fiddle with the tablecloth.
Your mother reaches across the table and grasps your hand before going on to say, “I know that you love her. She’s the girl you were so hung over on before you got with she devil, isn’t she?”
You snort at the nickname your siblings and mother have given your ex. They all thought she was no good from the beginning and knew you could do better, and so did Ali but she never let you know that.
“Yeah, she is.” You nod and look over, noticing the girl you’re speaking about approaching you. Your mom also sees so she quickly says something that leaves you stunned.
“From the way she looks at you, she feels the same, even when you’re not looking she can’t keep her eyes off of you. She looks at you like you’ve hung all the stars in the sky. She loves you, sweetie.” With that, she stands up and greets Ali with a smile before heading over to the newlyweds. You continue looking shocked not noticing your plus-one setting down your glasses.
“You still there?” Ali waves her hand in front of your face, grinning once your eyes meet hers.
“Sorry, did you say something before?” You ask with a soft smile to which the older girl responds with a nod.
“I was wondering if you’d like to accompany me with a dance?” She holds out her hand, hoping you’ll take it and you do.
“I would love to.”
Right when your feet hit the dance floor, a slow song turns on making you feel as sheepish as if you were at your first middle school dance. Without hesitation, Ali intertwines one of her hands with yours and rests her other on your waist. You place your other hand right where her neck meets her shoulder before you both begin to sway. The side of your forehead presses against her cheek, keeping you close together.
Subconsciously, you inhale her perfume and sigh at the smell, and what you don’t know is Ali is doing the same thing to your hair, smelling your coconut shampoo. When you open your eyes, you look over her shoulder and notice your mom smiling at the two of you. She nods her head, signaling for you to finally confess your true feelings.
You let out a shaky breath before pulling away slightly so you can see Ali’s face. She smiles at you with her eyes remaining on yours. The crinkles on the side of her eyes make you swoon and lose your thoughts.
“Do you want to know what my mom said to me while you went to get us drinks?”
“What?” She cocks her head to the side slightly, showing you she’s pretty curious as to what was said.
“Well, first, she told me she knows that we’re not dating, and second, she insists that you love me.” You whisper the last part, hoping she doesn’t catch it but she does.
She chuckles and looks up at the ceiling before returning her gaze to you and says, “Is it that obvious?”
Your head snaps up at her statement and you look at her with a puzzled look.
“You…love me?” You ask, pointing at yourself to make sure she is indeed talking about you.
“It’s impossible not to. That doesn’t scare you, does it?” Now it’s her turn to look sheepish and scared while waiting for your response.
“No, it actually makes me extremely happy. I have been in love with you since 2013.” Your confession makes the defender smile widely which you return, both of you in your own little circle. Her eyes switch between each of yours and down to your lips.
“Can I kiss you?”
“I will hit you if you don’t.”
Her fingers curl under your chin and pull you in, allowing your lips to finally touch. It feels like the movies where the girl kisses her one true love and her foot pops up in the middle of it. The butterflies in your stomach swarm like never before. Once you both pull back, your smiles never leave your faces. The comfortable silence between you two is interrupted by the newlyweds and your mother clapping and wooing.
You laugh into Ali’s neck while she chuckles and hugs your smaller form. She pecks your forehead and asks, “You wanna know what took me so long to get the drinks?”
“What?”
“The new bride and groom had a stern talk with me. They also knew about us not being a couple. Your family must be spies.”
Looking over her shoulder, you see the three wiggling their eyebrows and giving you a thumbs up, making you roll your eyes.
“Thanks to them, I can do this whenever I want now.”
You smash your lips against hers and hug your arms around her neck. Ali dips you down, causing you to squeal against her lips and her smile into it. She lifts you back up and hugs you.
“Can I take you on a date tomorrow?”
“You better.”

You can't flirt with her (USWNT x Reader, Christen Press x Reader
I don't know where this came from, it was a random idea that I ran with so I hope you enjoy it!
Words: 2k
It was my first time at camp. I wasn't as nervous as I expected, maybe because Christen was with me and we got to share a room. We had been dating for a little over two years now and we lived together. The team didn't know about us yet, we had decided to let the team get to know me first before telling them. I knew it was going to be hard, I was very attracted to her which meant I was very cuddly and flirty.
I thought maybe I had messed up pretty much as soon as camp started. Christen was wearing jeans and a blouse that just looked amazing on her. The compliment had just slipped out.
"You look amazing."
Christen blushed before giving me a look, "Thank you."
The looks we got from the team made me want to laugh. They were a mix between surprise and glares. Probably because they knew Christen had a girlfriend. When I was pulled aside by Tobin and Ashlyn, I knew they hadn't caught on.
"Hey, just wanted to give you a heads up, she has a girlfriend, you can't be flirting with her."
"I'm not. I like to hype people up when I can, but I'll make sure not to flirt with her."
"Good."
By time the next camp came around, I had gotten to know the team pretty well and they seemed to like me. During the last camp, I had been careful of how I interacted with Christen. The team knew we were close, but I hadn't flirted with her or anything that obviously gave away our relationship. Christen and I had decided that we would tell them this camp, although I had convinced her to let me have some fun before we did. The team had pulled a lot of pranks on me last camp so I just wanted to get a little payback.
I decided to start out slow, complementing her more and light touches as I passed her or sat next to her. Christen would blush and lean into me. I loved that even after two years, I still had that effect on her. The girls however had given me looks and started asking about Christens girlfriend more when I was around. I just had to resist the urge to laugh every time they did. Christen on the other hand would answer the questions with a smile on her face, a smile mixed with love and amusement. As much as Christen told me off or felt mean putting the girls through this, I knew she found it at least a bit funny.
Some of the girls cornered Christen one day when they thought I wasn't around, "Why are you letting her flirt with you? It's not right, you have a girlfriend."
I watched Christen shrug, wondering how she was going to respond, "She's not flirting with me, she's just being friendly. It's how she is."
"Yeah right. She's never like that with us."
"Just drop it. She knows I have a girlfriend and I know when things get too friendly."
"Okay."
Next, I started kissing her cheek or wrapping my arm around her when we stood or sat next to her. We would also cuddle up during movie nights. Such as right now, it was team bonding and I had my head resting in Christens lap as she played with my hair. There were only two days left of camp so everyone was trying to get as much time with each other before we left. Myself included. I had grown to like the team, but I also wouldn't see Christen for a few weeks once camp ended. I was going to Texas to see my family while Christen had to go back home for prior commitments.
"So what were those noises coming from your room last night?"
I cursed myself for not keeping Christen more quiet during last nights activities, not just because it would make them think we slept together which we did, but also out of respect. They didn't need to hear that, "Nothing."
"It sounded awfully like sex, please tell me you two didn't sleep together," Ashlyn asked bluntly, staring me down.
"Of course not. As you keep reminding me, she has a girlfriend. Not that it's really your business, but I met a girl, Christen spent an hour or so in the hotel garden talking to said girlfriend while I had some fun."
They didn't seem to buy it, but dropped the topic, starting up other conversations. I heard parts of the different conversations, although the one about us not sharing a room next time, made me want to laugh. This was way more entertaining then I had expected. After a few minutes Christen got my attention, whispering in my ear, "I think they're getting seriously concerned about our growing relationship."
I smirked, "Wait until they find out how much time I spend between your legs."
"Y/n!"
The team looked at us, eyebrows furrowing, I just shrugged turning back to Christen, "What? It's true."
Once the girls stopped paying attention, Christen spoke again, "Do you think we should just tell them?"
"We will. Maybe tomorrow though. Let me enjoy the fun for a little bit longer."
---
Every time Christen went down on the pitch, it sent fear through every part of my being. The longer she was down, the more terrified I got and the harder it was to stop myself from running to her during a game whether I was watching or playing with her. Seeing as it was a practice, I didn't stop myself from running to her side, beating the medical team there and lacing my fingers with hers, "Chris! Chris are you okay?"
She groaned, "I'm okay. I think I hit my head a little bit and my shoulder might be bruised, but I'm okay."
I scanned over her for any obvious injuries or blood, relaxing slightly when I didn't find anything. Christen squeezed my hand, "Seriously Y/n/n, I'm okay. Help me up?"
I carefully helped her up before kissing her temple and hugging her tightly, allowing myself to relax knowing she was okay, "Ow, careful. Bruised remember?"
"Sorry."
"That is definitely not how friends react," I heard from behind me, but I was too focused on Christen to do anything about it. Coach called off practice early seeing it was the last day of camp. I helped Christen back to the locker room, not that she needed it, but I was worried which turned into overprotectiveness. The girls were giving me looks, but right now I didn't care.
We managed to sneak away when I helped her to the shower. Christen cupped my cheek, pecking my lips quickly, "Stop worrying, I'm okay. I might be a bit sore, but it's nothing I can't handle and nothing a bath later won't fix. Now go get cleaned up while I shower."
The girls gave me a look when I came back out, but I ignored them again. Things had happened in the past that made me really struggle when people I cared for got hurt. I hated when people I loved got hurt, accident or not, but when it came to the person I loved most in this world, that worry didn't go away easily. I felt myself getting annoyed when they wouldn't stop staring at me, so I stood up, deciding to wait to shower and wait outside instead. It was always harder to control my temper after Christen got hurt, "Didn't your parents ever teach you it's rude to stare?"
Ten minutes later, the team filed out to the bus. I had my headphones in, ignoring them as I sat at the back of the bus. Christen sat with Tobin, but looked back at me occasionally. My phone buzzed with a text from Christen.
Chris <3 : Stop being grumpy. I know you get like this after someone get's hurt, but I'm okay so stop it. It wasn't their fault. Enjoy the last day at camp, think you can do that for me?
Y/n: Yes ma'am. I need a shower when we get back.
Christen just replied with a winky emoji and went back to her conversation with Tobin. I couldn't help the small smile that stretched across my face. I noticed Tobin watching me before my phone buzzed again. This time it was a group chat with me, Tobin and Christen.
Tobin: You're Chris's girlfriend aren't you?
Y/n: About time someone figured it out. What finally got you to make the connection?
Tobin: Christen was texting her girlfriend and I noticed the smile on your face. I just kinda assumed. Why didn't you just tell us?
Y/n: Well you guys pranked me so much the first camp, I wanted payback. Chris just went along with it. She'll deny it, but she found it amusing.
Chris: Never! I'm sorry I didn't tell you Tobin, we just wanted you guys to get to know her before you knew.
Tobin: Don't be, I understand. When are you going to tell the rest of the team? They're convinced you two are sleeping together and Chris is cheating on her girlfriend.
Y/n: They'll find out tomorrow, one last show ;)
Chris: Don't ask, I don't even know
---
Camp had officially ended which meant it was time for me to leave Christen for a few weeks. We had been apart for longer, but I would still miss her like crazy. I was leaning against the wall waiting for Christen while talking to the team. Christen walked up, standing across from me. I laced my fingers with hers, pulling her in and connecting our lips. Christen looped her arms around my shoulders as I pulled away, nuzzling my nose against her neck, "I'm going to miss you."
"I'll miss you too. It's only a few weeks baby, we'll be okay."
Christen was pulled away by Ali with a glare meant to kill, "Okay that's enough, Christen you have a fucking girlfriend, one you're about to go home to yet here you are making out with someone else. I never expected you to be this type of person Chris."
The laugh I tried to stop at how mad they looked slipped out making Ali and Alyssa glared at me, "What? You think being someone's mistress is funny?"
I cleared my throat, trying to remove the smile that had formed, "Of course not."
They crossed their arms, glares getting worse somehow, "We told you she had a girlfriend."
"I know, but-"
"No buts, you don't go after someone who's already taken."
"Can we not do a lecture now please? I want to enjoy my time with Chris before I go."
"Don't do dumb shit then. You crossed a line Y/n, you both did."
"Okay, okay I get it. She's just so attractive, amazing, smart-"
"But she has a girlfriend!"
At this point I was starting to wonder how smart they actually were. I knew they didn't know about me before, but I really thought they knew Christen better than that and would put it together. Christen was the most loyal and faithful person there was, she would never cheat on someone.
"I am very aware. I know her girlfriend very well."
"How?"
"Well, I've known her girlfriend for about 30 years, shower, dress and feed her everyday, see her in the mirror everyday. Do I really have to keep going for you guys to take the hint? Let's see what I see her girlfriend do. I- I mean she wakes up next to her almost everyday, plays with her hair when she can't sleep, makes her dance with her when work is getting too much because no matter her mood it always makes her smile, I tell her stupid stories to ma-"
Ali groaned loudly, pushing my shoulder, "Oh you bastard. You are her girlfriend. Why didn't you just tell us that? Why put us through that?"
"Sorry, you guys are just fun to mess with. We wanted you to get to know me before you knew. It was also a bit of payback after all the pranks I got last camp. I honestly thought you would realise. Can I go back to kissing my girlfriend before I don't see her for weeks please?"

The mystery of the froyo
Christen Press x fem!reader
Summary: Somebody took Christen's froyo.
A/n: Short, but it stays a fic :)
Tumblr media
Always making sure there is enough froyo in your fridge to keep your girlfriend, Christen Press, happy. If there was one thing she was addicted to, it was frozen yoghurt. Sometimes you thought that Christen loved the dessert more than you, but the green-eyed beauty always insisted that that was not true.
If there was no frozen yoghurt in your fridge, you made sure to or stay clear of Christen (she would kill you otherwise) or to restock it.
Here you were, sitting in the living room, just watching tv, when your girlfriend gave you a jump scare.
"Did you see my froyo?"
You froze in place. You were sure you bought a froyo when you did the groceries yesterday morning, but now you are not sure anymore.
"I put it in the fridge", you said, being sure of it.
"It is not there."
"You didn't eat it already?", asking your girlfriend, because you did not touch it.
"No"
You stood up, making your way to the fridge, but she was right, the froyo was not there. You sighed, not knowing where it could be, it would be strange if it just disappeared.
You would be damned if Christen said you have eaten her yoghurt, because she would banish you to the couch for that. And you would miss the nightly cuddles. So, you did what you thought best, you tried to help find Christen the sweet treat.
----
Recounting your steps from yesterday, to making sure it was not left in the car. To make sure you did not misplace it.
Then it hit you.
Yesterday you had some teammates over, teammates who loved to search your kitchen for treats.
"Chris..."
Humming in response Christen looked your way curious to what you wanted to say.
"We had people over yesterday, remember?"
Your girlfriends’ eyes shimmered with recognition, grabbing her phone, and unlocking it.
Before you knew it, your phone pinged, meaning one thing: Christen texted in the USWNT group app.
The message said: 'I hope for the one who ate yesterday froyo at our place, that I won't find out, because I will kill you.'
You gulped, knowing it was a threat Christen was sure to follow if she ever found the culprit.

One can only take so much… before they break
(Alex Morgan X OC)
Tumblr media
Hi, yes i know i’ve been away for a very long time, but I wanted to give this writing thing another shot to see if I still had anything left in the tank. Hopefully this isn’t the most dreadful thing you’ve ever read. So sorry if it is. Please be advised this one deals with some very strong emotions and topics. Implied mental abuse, Suicidal ideation and just overall sadness and anxiety. This will be a multi parter as my fingers got away from me lol.
This one is 99% Alex x OC, although the character’s name is never dropped as I wasn’t sure if I was going to make this an x reader fic or not. If anyone has any name suggestions at the end I’m all ears. And future parts will definitely be more USWNT x OC
3.4k Words
Everything is your fault. It always is. Why can’t you do anything right?! It all fell apart because of you! You know that, and so do they. They hate you for it. Your own mother won’t even talk to you.
“Hey, kid… Kid?…Dude!” I was so lost in thought I didn’t even hear one of my teammates calling out to me.
“Huh? What?” I looked up to see Alex looking down at me worriedly.
“Are you okay little duck?” She said squatting down so she was eye level with me. She put her hand on my cheek rubbing it softly raising an eyebrow when i didn’t say anything immediately.
“Hmm? Oh yeah, I’m fine.” I said softly, making a poor attempt at a smile but I’m fairly certain it came across as a grimace instead. I looked down and refused to look back up even though I could feel Alex trying to get me to look at her.
“Hey… what is it?” She said moving her head so she could look into my eyes, which at this point were watering and I was doing my very best to force the tears away.
“I-It’s nothing… I-I’m fine.” I said, my voice breaking. I brought my hand up to rub my eyes and I stood up and tried to make a quick get away, but Alex wasn’t having it.
“Stop, what’s going on? What’s wrong?” She put her hands on my shoulders to try and stop me from leaving but I pushed her off and started to walk away.
“I said I’m fine, just drop it Alex. Please.” I gave up trying to stop the tears, they were freely flowing now and i let out a sob as I broke into a full sprint when I heard her starting to follow me, calling out to me. I ran passed several of our fellow national team, teammates who were watching everything unfold.
I beat her to the locker room, grabbed my stuff and made a mad dash to my car, getting in and attempting to regulate my breathing. The tears were still coming in full force, sobs racked my body as I tried and failed to calm myself down. How pathetic is this? Crying like a big baby, because your mommy made you sad? I really am weak aren’t I? No that’s not true. The girls always tell me I’m strong and that I’m their brave big girl. Yeah it’s a bit baby-ish but it gets the point across. I wrestled with my own thoughts and was so engrossed in arguing with myself that i didn’t even realize I made it back to my apartment already. I also didn’t hear my phone ringing incessantly while I drove. I hesitated a bit seeing as it was Alex, probably trying to figure out where i went. It almost went to voicemail before i decided to answer.
“Hello” my voice was raw from all the crying I did, but I sounded more tired than distraught now.
“Baby, where did you go? What happened back there? Why did you run away? Please talk to me. I’m worried about you.” She said all in one breath, I bit my lip contemplating my answer. Then i took a deep breath and decided to just bite the bullet and be at least partially truthful.
“I… um, I was going thru a-a lot during the break between camps, I mean I guess I still am going thru a lot right now, given my very apparent meltdown earlier. I-I’m sorry Alex, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me. I won’t do it again, I swear.” My damn voice started breaking again as the tears started back up.
“Hey, hey, hey… little one, please breathe, you’re okay. You have nothing to be sorry for. Take deep, slow breaths, in and out.” she said gently, guiding me thru some breathing exercises until my breathing was less erratic. “Can you tell me where you are please? I’m going to come get you and we’ll talk this through and maybe we can order a pizza and watch movies, what do you say?” She asked, I could tell she was trying to remain calm but I could hear her voice quiver just slightly. She was scared, and rightfully so, this isn’t the first time I’d run off and usually when i did, I became self destructive at worst and let myself rot in bed for a week at best.
“I’m at the apartment.” I said and she let out a sigh of relief on the other end of the line.
“Okay good. I’m on my way, be there in 10. Stay there, please.”
I took one last deep breath before I got out of the car and made my way inside. I intended to sit on the couch and wait for her to get home but then the more i thought about having to talk to Alex about what’s been going on the more anxious i became. I started pacing and started mumbling to myself about what i was going to say and how I was going to say it. I wanted to let Alex in but I knew if I wasn’t careful I would let her in too much and I wasn’t ready for that. Being 17 and all my ability to regulate my emotions and understand them wasn’t the best as I’m sure you’ve already figured out.
10 minutes went by quickly and Alex was there before i knew it. She quickly made her way inside and dropped her bag by the door, coming up to me and taking me by the shoulders again to get me to stop pacing.
“Stop, please. You’re spiraling, what’s going on?”
“I just have a lot on my mind.”
“Like what? Is it your family? Soccer?”
“Family.” I mumbled, attempting to yank myself out of her grasp but she just wrapped her arms around my torso tightly so i couldn’t run away. “Let go Alex I can’t do this. Please let go.” I kept fighting against her hold but she wasn’t relenting, and while i would’ve denied it in the moment, I needed that.
“Shh, shh bub, just relax. I’ve got you. I’m here now it’s all gonna be okay, okay? I promise. Please just let me help you.” She said softly and I finally just allowed her to fully pull me against her chest, she relaxed her grip just slightly moving one of her hands to the back of my head, stroking my hair softly, resting her chin on the top of my head. “You’re okay, you’re safe now.” She whispered, and she continued to mumble reassurances to me as she rocked me in her arms slightly.
“Do we have to talk about this?” I mumbled.
“Yeah kid unfortunately we do. You know the rules when you decide to run away like you did earlier.” She kissed my head before picking me up with ease and moving us to the couch. She kept her hold on me and let me curl up into her lap, I tucked my head in the crook of her neck.
“I don’t want to.” I attempted to say firmly but it came out as a whine.
“Remember what I said? It’ll all be okay. I know this is scary but I’m not going anywhere and anything you tell me isn’t going to scare me away. I promise you. You’re my brave big girl, hmm?”
“I’m 17, you know?” I said in an attempt to seem tough.
“And that’s why i said you’re a big girl. But you’re still the baby on the team and little one to me.” She said chuckling softly. “You can do this.” she said after a moment rubbing my arm gently.
“I can do this.” I repeated to myself. I moved myself out of the safety of Alex’s arms slightly, putting some distance between us and turning to fully face her, steeling myself for the tough conversation ahead. I’m a very sensitive and emotional person so these conversations always make me cry no matter how much I try to stop it.
Do you want me to call the rest of the girls? Is this something they should know about too?”
“Too many people. Not ready, I think it’s better if I tell you everything first and then maybe only tell them the gist of it after.”
“Okay, then that’s what we’ll do. Whenever you’re ready.”
“I guess I’ll start at the beginning. So you know how in between camps and during off season I go home to be with my family? Well I went and everything fell apart, and it’s all my fault. Just like everything always is.”
“Hey, no don’t say that.” She cut me off, she hates when i am self deprecating.
“Its true though. I fucked everything up. You know how my brother and I work at the same place right? Well and you know how my shift is closing? So I work 1-10pm? Which my mom hates.” She nodded her head as I was talking to let me know she was following along. “Well one night it was bad… The weather was horrendous because in my hometown we get a lot of snow. A-and so one of the days I worked I was one of the f-few people to show up and, when everything was all said and done there was a huge mess left behind from the disaster of a day we had….” I was beginning to become emotional just thinking about what had happened that night, and i hated that it still made me feel such strong emotions.
“It’s okay, do you want to keep going?” Alex asked me softly, stroking the back of my head softly. she knew sometimes that talking about things was hard for me and that i needed to take breaks in order to get the whole story out.
“Yes i need to. I can do it.” I said determinedly. Blinking away the tears.
“Anyways, it was a mess and being a “Back up Team lead” sometimes i made a decision to send everyone else home and clean up. And since my brother worked on overnights I called him and asked him to come help me clean up so that i could go home at a semi-reasonable time. He came over to help but when they wanted to send him back to his normal area he refused and he s-started arguing with his boss about how he was going to choose family over his job at the moment and they d-didn’t like that so they sent him home for the night, and he didn’t have a car so he called my mom to pick him up…” I stopped to catch my breath as i realize I hadn’t been breathing
“Shh, easy baby, nice, slow deep breaths, you’re doing so good.” She said. I hadn’t been looking at Alex very much this whole time but when I finally did I could see unshed tears in her eyes. I knew it was hard for her any time i was upset or emotional in a negative way. She gently wiped away the tears that made their way down my cheeks.
“My mom came to get him, and then she called me, and she was angry, she demanded I come home so I did and when I got there she told me she had a lot of opinions about what happened but she was just going to keep her mouth shut. She told me to get out of her sight so I did. She wouldn’t even look at me. Just like that I was transported back to when I was a little kid and she would get angry and she would just tell me she didn’t want to look at me. It felt like a knife to the chest. I didn’t understand what i did to upset her so much and I knew she wouldn’t tell me. All part of her “healing process.” I said bitterly.
“Fast forward to the next morning, I woke up to the news my brother had been fired. I called him to apologize and I asked him what our mom said to him and he said that she blames me for him getting fired. She said I should have known better. I knew how much he needed that job.” My hands were shaking and my breathing was ragged as I played with the strings of my hoodie.
“That wasn’t your fault, you have to know that.”
“Yes it was. It is. He hasn’t found a job since and he-he’s struggling again. You remember what happened last time he was struggling don’t you? I can’t do that again, I can’t! Everything he does, every decision he makes that’s not good is my fault. My mom wants me to be “an example” for him but he’s older! How fucking twisted is that?! Why are things never his fault?!” I yelled standing up suddenly startling Alex.
“Okay, okay let’s take a break hmm?” Alex stood up holding up her hands to show me she meant no harm.
“No! You don’t get it! Everything is my fault! My own mother thinks so! I know he’s struggling but can’t she see I’m struggling too?! ” I threw a plastic cup that was on the table across the room.
“Stop. Now. We don’t throw things when we’re upset, do you understand?” Alex said sternly.
My lip wobbled as I started crying again. “I’ve spent the last 4 years trying my very best to hold my family together through everything we’ve been thru. I got my brother the job working where i do and now I’m the reason he lost it. And now he and his girlfriend risk being homeless because she doesn’t have a job either. And if they lose their apartment they move back home with my mom, which means I’ll probably have to move back to be there with her because I can’t just leave her there by herself with them. It wouldn’t be fair. Which in turn means I’ll have to put my life on hold. The life I finally made for myself.”
I’m so tired of being emotional exhausted. I can’t keep doing this. I don’t even want to be alive anymore.”
“Woah, hold on… what do you mean by that?” Alex’s eyes widened as she processed what i said.
“I mean what I just said I don’t want to be alive anymore okay? I want the pain to stop. I need it to stop.”
The silence that followed was long and tense. I immediately regretted saying what i said. But realized i couldn’t walk it back. Alex finally took a deep breath and began speaking again.
“How long have you been feeling this way? Do you- Do you have a plan?” She asked quietly, her voice breaking as she did.
“No I don’t have a plan, I just sometimes think about how much easier it would be if I wasn’t here anymore. And sometimes I think about hurting myself but i haven’t acted on it. And i’ve been feeling this way since last year, when my mom and i got into that big blowout fight at Thanksgiving. You know she didn’t even want me moving out here? She’s never really let that fight go.” I laughed hollowly.
“Thank you for telling me, and being honest with me. I know that wasn’t easy. Why didn’t your mom want you to move out here?”
“She thinks you and the girls have too much of an influence over me. She thinks you guys are “changing” me. She threatened to force me to quit playing soccer all together.”
“What? Why didn’t you ever tell me any of this?”
“It didn’t seem relevant.”
“Didn’t seem relevant?! How’s that? If i had known that I would’ve just had you move out here permanently!”
“Alex…”
“No I’m serious! I understand you’re still 17 but you’re out of high school and you should be able to decide your own path.
“I’ve been trying, but the situation with my brother gives her more reason to say i should just quit playing.
Alex goes quietly again and I can tell she’s thinking. I can tell she’s angry. She has never really liked my mom and visa versa, their relationship is courteous at best.
“I think sometimes you forget that you’re still a kid. I know that you have had a lot put on your shoulders and that a lot is expected of you, but your brothers choices that night are not your fault and I’m sorry he’s having a hard time and he might have to move back home, which yes will be hard for your mom but that doesn’t mean that you have to give up your life for them. They will be okay. I promise you.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Yes i do, you wanna know how I know?” She said and I nodded meekly.
“I know because your brother is strong, and so is your mom. And while i’ve never met her I’m sure his girlfriend is too. You don’t have to hold anyone else up but yourself. Not anymore. Their emotions and their… predicaments are not yours to try and fix. i don’t want you going home for a while okay? It’s clear that it’s taking a toll on you and to be frank, This is your home. Here with me, With the other girls. We have you okay? And we will never leave you. Ever.”
I turned away from her and tried to calm myself completely. I was so over all the crying and I bet you are too.
“You’re probably so sick of me crying.” I said chuckling quietly. Alex Vehemently shook her head and wrapped her arms around me, kissing my head.
“Not at all, you needed to get it out. it’s never good to hold it all in like you did, you know that.”
“I know, I just…”
“Have a hard time letting yourself be vulnerable. I know love. I know. So here’s what we’re going to do. I think writing your thoughts out might help what do you think?”
“Maybe…” i said hesitantly.
“Don’t worry no one else will read it but you. And the only way anyone will ever know anything you write down is if you tell them. And I know you going home for part of the year is to help you be able to pay your half of the rent but don’t worry about it okay? I will cover any excess we have from the missing income okay? I meant it when I said your home was here with me.”
“Alex you don’t have to-….”
“Yes i do. You’re very important to me, and I care about you and the things you need. And right now you need a bit of a break.”
“Thank you. That means a lot.”
“Anything for you kid. Now listen I also want you to really consider talking to a therapist or a mental health professional about how you’ve been feeling okay? I won’t force you but I think you might benefit from it. And please talk to me, or one of the other girls if you feel like hurting yourself. I don’t want you to think you have to go thru that alone okay?”
“Okay i will.” She’s right, it’s probably about time i go to therapy, I’m still hesitant as sharing my feelings and the things i keep inside has never been my strong suit.
“Now, how about you go take a warm shower to calm down a bit more, I’ll order some pizzas and get the girls over here?”
“I’d like that.” I smiled softly and headed upstairs to do as she suggested.
About an hour later I was showered, comfy and sitting on the couch sandwiched between Alex and Christen. A “Chrislex” sandwich if you will. Tobin was on Christen’s left, Mal, Sam, Kristie, Rose and the rest of the team were laying as close to me as they could get and spread out through out the living room. Pizza was also spread out through the room as people shared with one another. We had Moana on as the girls said I could pick and that’s my go to movie. I was so focused on the movie i almost didn’t notice my phone buzzing at my side. I looked at the text that came thru and my heart dropped as I realized who it was from… My mom.
“You need to come home.”
Is all it said. My hands instantly started shaking and I had that panicking feeling rising in my chest again. Alex looked over at me curiously and I forced the fakest smile i could muster onto my face. I’m in deep shit now…
//
To Be Continued…
There will be a part 2 and the rest of the team will be in that one more, promise. Please let me know what you think!

Secrets & Lies (Christen Press x reader)
Tumblr media
Based of this request.
A/N: This is the longest fic I have ever written with 11,599 words. I hope it isn’t too long and that you all like it. One more thing, ANGST!!!
You had been keeping a secret since the day you were born. Only a few people knew about it and that's because someone else told them but at what point does a secret turn into a lie?
You spent your childhood having bi yearly surgeries but they were only temporary fixes until the doctors felt your heart was strong enough to take the stress of a more complicated surgery. This came when you were 15, it meant you could play the sport you love, and to the naked eye your condition was non existent as long as you took your medication. It wouldn't be the last surgery you had, in fact the doctors told both you and your mom that they would have to do the same surgery again in around 10 years.
It resulted in you learning to live one day at a time and you never looked too far into the future but you couldn't ignore the fact that every year is one step closing to needing a second surgery. So when you turned 25 you couldn't help but feel like you were on borrowed time. Two years after that, the hospital visits became a monthly occurrence in order to keep an eye on your condition and your doctor was surprised that your heart was holding up well and it was but that feeling of being healthy soon came to a halt.
First came the shortness in breath followed by the chest pains, they are symptoms that you are all too familiar with. At first it was manageable but then it got hard to hide the toll it was taking on your body.
"Are you ok kid?" you feel a hand rest on the small of your back as you bend over in attempt to catch your breath after a sprinting drill.
"It's getting worse" you look up at your captain Christine Sinclair "I'll be ok, I have to be. The olympics are around the corner and I can't miss them" the panic in your voice sparks concern within the Canadian.
"Ok, ok, calm down. We will handle this like have in the past, just me, you and the doctors. Have you told Tobin or any of the others how bad it's getting?" you shake your head "Maybe it's time you tell Christen. The two of you have been tog—“
“No! Christen doesn't need to know"
"And when will she? When she is calling an ambulance?"
Christine Sinclair had many abilities and the one you hated the most was how well she showed tough love.
"No Christen and no Tobin. This is my fight and I know how to handle it" you know that the conversation is no where near over but you don't have the energy to talk about it and you don't want to risk the rest of the team hearing you.
At first only you and the Portland Thorns team doctor knew about your heart condition but then your mom told Christine when the thorns were playing Gotham. She wanted someone to know about it in case you were to have an episode. They didn't happen all that often, especially as you got older, but when they did come they were bad.
Portland were in Houston playing the dash before the players would go to their respective national teams. It meant that you had to pack for 3 weeks away. You made your checklist, packed your bag and then went through the list twice, you had everything.
The Thorns ended up beating the dash 3-1 with goals coming from you, Tobin and Lynsey so when you arrived at camp you were all in fantastic moods although yours could have something to do with the fact that you would be seeing Christen for the first time in a month.
As you enter the reception you are told that you are the last to arrive and the team are in the conference room handing out room assignments. As you enter the room you eyes eagerly search for your girlfriend but she isn’t there, worry starts to set in and you nudge tobin who in suit shrugs her shoulders. So her girlfriend and best friend didn’t know where she was. You are just about to raise your hand to ask the question when you feel two arms snake around your waist.
“Looking me for” Christen says quietly as not to interrupt Jill.
You remove one of her hands and place a kiss on the back of it.
“I better not be sharing with Kelley again” You tip your head back to rest on her shoulder.
“You’ll be happy to know I persuaded Jill to let us room together but you have to be on your best behaviour”
“Me!” You turn to face Christen. Your increased volume becoming apparent when Jill calls you out.
“Is there something you would like to share with the team” Jill encourages you to speak up.
"Nothing she can repeat in front of the youngens, right Y/N?" Kelley teases.
The defender knows that you will bite straight away if the teasing had to do with your relationship, more so what goes on behind close doors. You are on the verge of retaliating when Christen places her hand over your mouth.
"Sorry coach, continue" Christen tells Jill.
The team meeting runs a little big longer than you had hoped. Jill taking this time to discuss the basic plan for the camp as well as assigning rooms and then reassigning them when she gets complaints.
You and Christen waste no time in making up for being away from each other. It might have been a few years since the two of you started dating but the way she makes you feel never failed to catch you off guard. The connection you shared reminded you of fireworks and no matter how many times they went off you always jumped.
The two of you cuddled in bed, covered in nothing but the white hotel bed sheets. Christen's head rested on your chest whilst her hand traced shapes on your stomach.
"Your heart feels like it is about to beat out of your chest" whilst Christen jokes it is a reason for concern to you.
You think about it for a second. The Thorns schedule has been gruelling recently and you knew that you were putting stress on your heart but it was fine, you were taking your medication then it hit you, you hadn't taken it this morning.
"My heart will always skip a beat for you" you stare up at the ceiling in fear that Christen will see your pain if she looks you in the eyes.
The pair of you get ready for training all whilst worry starts to sink deeper into your thoughts. Christen knew you took several supplements in a morning but she didn't know what they were and you wanted to keep it this way. When you are on your way down to the lobby you see your chance.
"I'll meet you down there. I forget to take my vitamins" You daren't use the word medication because you know it will cause her to worry. It's the reason why she has no idea about your condition. You saw what the worry did to your mom growing up and you wouldn't put that on your girlfriend.
Luckily Christen doesn't ask any questions and she doesn't follow you back to the room. By the time she gets to the lobby the whole team is there ready and waiting.
"What, no Y/N?" Pinoe asks her fellow forward.
"She forgot her vitamins" Christen says fully unaware of the looks that are shared between Emily and Tobin.
Emily tips her head towards the elevator and Tobin picks up on what she is suggesting.
You are rummaging through your bag hoping that you will find your medication but it is no where to be found. You thought you packed enough for the Thorns trip and the national camp but you hadn't. You didn't know what to do, you knew that if you told Dawn about it she would have you benched and that couldn't happen because you were playing Canada and the team needed you. The sound of someone knocking at the door pulls you out of your head. At first you ignore them, you had more important things going on right now and the person on the other side of the threshold could wait but the knocking continued only louder and more persistently.
"Y/N let me in"
Tobin, just the person you both wanted to see and did not want to see. When she enters she recognises the panic on your face immediately.
"You forgot?" Her tone reminds you of your mom and you didn't care for it.
"I'm fine now" It was a lie but you didn't have a choice  "I'm just tidying up. You know how much of a neat freak Chris is"
You had been taking this medication for 12 years surely you built up enough strength to live without it for a week.
Training was tough to say the least but you chalked it down to the Arizona heat. Tobin kept a close eye on you and even went out of her way to partner up with you during drills which pissed you off more because you wanted to work with Christen. Dawn watched you from the sidelines and at first you didn't think anything of it until you saw her whispering in Jill's ear.
When the coach calls you over in the middle of scrimmage, it gains the attention of the entire team. Players only ever got called out of a game when they were in trouble but Jill eyes wasn't filled with anger, they were filled with pity and your suspicions were confirmed when you saw Dawn mouth 'i'm sorry'.
"Do I need to be worried?" Jill asked.
Here's the thing with Jill. You know she knows and she knows you know she knows but the two of you have never spoken about it. She keeps an eye on you during training and Dawn let's her know if there is a reason for concern.
"No. I forgot to take my medication this morning so it's taking a little bit longer for it to work"
Another lie.
"You were struggling out there and don't say it's because of the heat. I have seen you when we play in Australia and you aren't phased at all"
"I'm already feeling better. Watch and you will see that I am fine" you shut down the conversation before it can go any further.
When you're back on the pitch you score within seconds and dedicate your goal to your coach with an arrogant salute. Instead of it making her believe you're healthy, your celebration makes Jill think the opposite. You are trying too hard to show her you are ok.
The next couple of days are more difficult than you would like to admit. You were tempted to ask for a personal day and fly back to Portland but it would lead to more questions and you were trying to keep your amount of lies to a minimum.
With game day getting closer and closer, you begin easing off the physical side of preparation. You took a back seat in training and when asked about it you stated that as your role as captain you want to use this time to pass on your knowledge to the younger players.
When it comes to the afternoon lift session, Dawn pulls you aside and tells you that you will be working alone. She puts you on the treadmill whilst the rest of the team focus on the weights. Her attempt at testing your fitness isn't as subtle as she hopes.
"Wait, why is Y/N the only one doing a fitness test?" Tobin asks. Christen wants to know the same thing. She had seen the change in your behaviour over the past couple of days. It happened in the blink of an eye, one minute your the confident player the world loved the next you are on the sidelines trying to catch your breath like a rookie.
"Because I am the fastest on the team and Dawn wants to see if I can improve my stats from last camp"
Your girlfriend buys it, Tobin on the other hand isn't so easy to persuade. In the end she walks away but not before talking to Sonnet who looks at you and shakes her head.
Great! You aren't well and now you have pissed off the two people that could out you to the entire team.
"I've seen you watching me and I'm fine but if I am sick then I will get worse by doing this" you whisper in Dawn's ear before setting the treadmill to 15 where you begin sprinting as if you have a perfectly good heart.
By the end of the treadmill test you can barely breathe. Dawn helps you to chair before getting you a bottle of water. You hear her shout of Christen and within seconds your girlfriend is by your side.
"Y/N breathe for me" Christen begs. She had never seen you this out of breath.
"It hurts" you clasp both of your hands over your chest. This couldn't be happening, not here, not now.
"What's going on with her?" Christen asks dawn.
"She is--" Dawn tries to answer but Tobin and Sonnet come running over.
"She took an elbow to the chest in our last game and it's causing her some problems" Tobin tells her.
"She'll be fine. Here, use this" Sonnet gives you an ice pack knowing that it helps with your chest pains.
Your hands shake whilst you hold the cold block to your chest, so much so that Christen ends up taking it from you.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Christen asks.
When you look to Christen you see the hurt you are causing her and this is because she didn't know about a tackle that didn't happen. In a matter of seconds you go from feeling pain to feeling guilty.
“I—" part of you tries to tell her the truth, even it it's only a half truth.
"It's best if she doesn't talk" Tobin cuts in.
Dawn tells you that you're done for the day and that Christen should take you back to your room. Your girlfriend talks to the performance coach in hopes that she can tell her what to do to make you feel better.
"I don't know what's going on with you but you cannot tell her when you're like this. She will think you’re ill" Tobin whispers in your ear.
"That's because I am ill and I always will be. She deserves to be with someone who isn't a burden" your breathing begins to even out.
"Y/N don't do anything stupid. You trust us with your secret, you can trust her too"
"No, my mom trusted you. I didn't want people to know because they look at me like—“
"Like what"
"Like that" you point at both of the friends "Like I'm broken"
Walking away you feel their eyes burning into the back of your head but you don't look back. Christen stands near the door with her hand extended waiting for you to take it.
Once back in your room Christen goes straight into the bathroom and begins running the bath. It is something that calmed the two of you but funnily enough you haven't done it whilst being at camp. Your girlfriend comes back out to find you laid back on the bed, your eyes closed with one hand on your chest. She can just about hear you counting your breaths.
"Join me" Christen says from the door way but she doesn't get an answer, you don't even move.
"Baby, come join me" the softness in her tone when she calls you the name that made you feel like you're the only girl in the world gets your attention.
"I think i'm just going to lay here for a while"
"Look at me" your girlfriend demands and upon doing so see her standing there in nothing but her underwear "I wasn't asking"
The smirk that pulls at your lips in uncontrollable. The sight you saw had the power to bring to your knees and the past had proven that.
"Then I won't say no" you stand and remove your shorts and as you walk towards her you remove your top.
Christen is the first to get into the bath and she slides forward so that you can slip in behind her. She grabs your arms, wraps them around her and then covers your arms with her own.
"I love you Christen Press" you place a kiss to her jawline "but if something were to happen to me then I want you to move on" you feel a tear roll down your cheek but you cannot wipe it away "Please don't waste your years mourning me and don't be afraid to open your heart to another. You wouldn't be betraying me and although i'll be gone, i'll always be with you, in here" you place your hand over her heart.
"Y/N--" Christens shifts her weight.
"Don't look at me"
This was strange. You and Christen are very open about your feelings and aren't scared to be vulnerable around each other but whenever you shared these moments you wanted to feel as close to her as possible which lead to the two of you having eye contact.
"You are my one true love Y/N Y/L/N and should the worse happen, that will never change. I cannot make a promise to move on because I am not in control of my heart but I will promise to let love in should it come to me"
"I will love you Christen until my last day on earth and then long into the afterlife"
This time you don't stop her as she turns in the water so her legs are either side of you. You craved her touch and reassurance that everything would be ok only she couldn't tell you that. That night Christen makes you forget about how this pain in your chest has ended in the past and you don't think twice about whether you future is going to last a year or ten years.
Game day came on day 5 without your medication and you were starting to regret not going home to get them. Sleep had become nothing more than a long nap and every time you ran it felt like a marathon. Still you had been able to downplay your struggles and Jill put you in the starting 11 despite being concerned about you.
You knew there was one person you couldn't fool and you did your best to avoid her until the whistle. At the pitch inspection you stayed away from the Canadians but you saw Christine staring at you from a distance, by the look on her face you knew she knew. When she tipped her head towards the tunnel so she could speak with you, you shook your head.
"You should go see her" Christen nudges towards where your club captain is standing.
"And fraternise with the enemy. I would much rather fraternise with you" you whisper in her ear.
It seems that Christen buys your distraction as she doesn't bring it up again even when Christine waits by the locker room after the warm ups.
You think you have managed to evade your friend's questioning but when you stand in the line waiting to go out you have a bad feeling in your gut so when Christine walks by you grab her arm and pull her back towards you.
"I didn't bring enough medication with me" you confess.
Up until now you haven't been scared but the look Christine gives makes you feel just that.
"How long?" she keeps her reply short given the crowd of players that surround you.
"5 days" You see Christine eye up Jill as she walks past "No, don't. I can handle this game but you need to know if case something happens"
"What makes you think that?"
You bring you hand to your chest "gut feeling" you reply.
Once gain Christine's expression changes and the worry is not something she can hide. She pulls you into her arms and whispers in you ear.
"I know you can handle it especially when playing so be smart out there kid"
And that is exactly what you do or at least for the first 50 minutes it is. All of sudden you feel your chest tighten and you feet give way underneath you as your body goes into fight or flight response. You do everything in your power to fight but it is too hard. Within seconds you are laid out of the floor, instead of your heart beating rapidly it is slow, too slow.
"Y/N, what's wrong?" Christen kneels beside you.
Your eyes lock onto her, she is the reason why you want to fight but your lack of response does more harm than good. The team don't know what is happening so they don't call the medics over.
"Is it your heart?" Tobin asks having no care in the world about who hears her.
"What's wrong with her heart? Is this about the knock you took?"
You had been dreading this moment but somehow it has turned out worse than you imagined.
"I'm" you take a deep breathe "sorry"
"Why are you sorry? Tobin what is she sorry for? What is going on?"
Tobin looks at you and you use whatever energy you have left to shake your head.
"Sincy" you look at Tobin and she understands what you want but she doesn't want to leave your side.
Emily picks up on this "It's ok, i'll get her"
The defender turns to get your team mate only to see the opposing captain already running over.
"Move out of my way" Christine pushes her way through the white shirts.
"Sincy, it hurts" tears start to fall as fear begins to set in.
"Tobin get your medics now"
Christine looks at your team mates but her gaze ultimately falls on your girlfriend who looks petrified. Christen has one of your hands in hers, squeezing it so tightly that part of your fingers have turned white.
"I don't want to die" your words earn gasps from your team mates. Some of the Portland players are trying to hold back from crying as they know what this could mean.
"You're not going to die" Christen places a kiss to the back of your hand "Why would you die? You can't die. Christine" Christen looks up to the older player only to see her holding Tobin in her arms as she tries to console her "Tobin" at the sight on her best friend in tears she knows that something much bigger is going on.
The medics come running onto the pitch and in that very moment you realise that the secret you have kept for the last 27 years is about to come to light. When one of them starts asking question you know that you don't have it in you to answer them,  a mixture of not wanting to and not having the ability to.
"She has a heart defect and hasn't been taking her medication" Christine says when she realises you wouldn't say it. Your club captain proceeds to explain your condition in detail as well as your medical history.
"No" Christen shouts "She is fine, tell them you're fine Y/N. You're not sick, you just took a knock in your last game. I know you're not sick because you would have told me, we don't have secrets" tears are flowing freely down your girlfriends face.
"Y/N" Christen whispers when she feels your hand slowly loosen it's grip from her own.
"I don't want to die. I wan’t—" your breathing hitches once again as your bodies tries to inhale a much oxygen as possible.
"Baby, no" Christen leans forward and rests her forehead against yours.
"I'm sorry. I love you" those are are the last words you say and Christen is the last thing you see before it goes black.
"She's going into cardiac arrest. I need everyone to back up so we can try and save her life" One of the doctors say as the other one sprints away in search of the defibrillator.
"No, i'm not leaving her" Christen holds onto your unconscious form. It is only when Ashlyn pulls her away does she let go and begins sobbing into her friends arms.
The team stand there, helpless, as they watch the medics try to resuscitate you. All of them feeling a mixture of emotions. Some are angry at you, why didn't you tell them things had got this bad. Others feel guilty having known nothing about your condition, they begin wondering if the signs where there and they had just been too ignorant to see them.
Christen feels every emotion under the sun but the strongest one of them all is rage. You were her girlfriend and not only did you keep this from her, her best friend did too. You were the two people she trusted the most in the world yet today made it clear that trust wasn't reciprocated.
You are loaded into an Ambulance and taken the the nearest hospital. Christen is asked if she wants to go with you but she says no. The game gets suspended and the teams head back into their locker rooms. The US players planned on getting changed and heading straight to you.
The atmosphere in the locker room is something that neither of them have experienced before.
"You knew!" Christen shouts at Tobin.
"Chris" Pinoe tries to pull your girlfriend towards her locker but fails.
"No, I deserve an answer. My girlfriend was sick and you didn't tell me"
"It wasn't my secret to tell Christen. She made us promise not to tell you"
Tobin's words didn't exactly instil faith and calmness in her friend.
"Us?" Christen takes a step back and she scans the locker room. Now that's she is looking, it is very obvious who knew and who didn't "Emily, Lindsey. You knew too" Christen couldn't believe it.
"I didn't know things has gotten this bad. Y/N has episodes but she handles them on her own" Emily tells her.
"She doesn't like to talk about it" Lindsey adds.
"And Christine Sinclair knew" It isn't a question. The woman's action on the pitch made it obvious that she is very aware of your condition.
"I did"
Turning around Christen comes face to face with the women she was talking about.
"I have known since the beginning" the invisible spotlight that was placed on Christine made her nervous "I'm going to the hospital. Come with me and I will tell you everything"
Christen quickly replaces her boots with a pair of trainers, grabs a jacket and follows your captain.
Christen sat in the hospital waiting room alone. The seats either side of her remained empty because although her teammates wanted to support their friend, they knew it was just as important to give her space. It didn't make sense at first, you being ill, but then she begins replaying some of your recent conversations. Obviously the one you shared in the bath a few nights prior wasn't as hypothetical as Christen thought. Did you really think that Christen could move on from you?
"Family of Y/N Y/L/N"
Upon hearing your name the entire USWNT flock towards to the man clad in scrubs.
"I'm her girlfriend" Christen says as she stands directly in front of him.
"I'm sorry her file says to only discuss medical matters with direct family or Christine Sinclair, is that you?"
Christen couldn't believe what she is hearing. Even when you are in god knows what condition you are still determined to keep this from her.
"That's me. This is Christen Press and you can discuss Y/N's condition with her" Your friend has had enough of your secrets, Christen deserves the know the truth and at this point she knew that you could no longer hide it but that you would still try.
"Unfortunately Y/N coded again on the way here. Her heart had to work overdrive just to beat regularly and in the end it couldn't take it"
"No, She" your girlfriend couldn't believe what she was hearing "She can't die"
"She's alive Miss Press" The doctor confirmed "What I meant is that her heart couldn't take it which lead to the incident during your game. I spoke with her doctor in Portland and we agreed that minor surgery was needed until she can have a full exam when she returns home. Y/N is in recovery right now for observation then we will move her to a private room. I will have someone come get you when she is allowed visitors"
Christen stands frozen in her spot. Her mind, body and soul had grieved your death twice now even if it wasn't permanent.
"This is a good thing Chris" Tobin ignores the looks she gets as she talks to her best friend.
"How is this good Tobin? She almost died, no she did die. I lost her"
Tobin tries to pull Christen into a hug but she fights it. She takes her anger, which is rightly or wrongly is aimed at you, out on Tobin before surrendering.
"How could she not tell me Tobin? I'm suppose to be her person, she tells me she loves me yet—“
Christen is cut off before she can finish her sentence.
"You really don't get it do you" Christine says. After speaking to the doctor she found a seat near your Portland team mates "Y/N does love you more than you realise. It is the reason why she hasn't told you. I know that doesn't make sense but it does in her mind. Y/N has never told anyone about her heart condition"
"That's not true. You know, Tobin, Lynsey, Emily and I guess Becky knows, oh and dawn too, maybe even jill"
"You're right but that's not because Y/N told us. Her mom is reason why we know. She told us for this exact reason, in case something happens to her daughter and she isn't there to help her. In Y/N’s eyes she was protecting you by not telling you"
"That does sound like Y/N" Ashlyn sees sense in what the Canadian is saying.
"It doesn't make it ok"
"No it doesn't and for what it's worth Tobin has been begging Y/N to tell you since you started dating" Christine comes to her team mates defence.
Christen knows deep down that none of this was Tobin's fault and that her reaction was uncalled for. The way Tobin looks at her is something she has never seen before but then it hits her. You might have been her girlfriend but you are Tobin's best friend.
"I'm sorry Tobin. It just the thought of losing her is—“
"I know. It's scares me too"
When the pair hug, the team awe in response. For a brief moment the energy changes but it doesn't last long.
"Y/N is awake"
Having not needed to be told twice, Christen heads straight towards the nurse.
"You're going to have to wait sweetie. Y/N only wants to see Miss Sinclair"
It hurt. Once again you were choosing Christine over her and quite frankly Christen has had enough. A huge part of her wanted to say 'screw you' and leave. If you didn't want to see her then she wasn't going to stick around.
"Let's go get a coffee" Pinoe suggests which Christen agrees, Tobin follows in suit.
The three of them return just as Christine is storming through the hallway. Clearly nothing good happened in your room but it wasn't clear if the bad thing was related to the incident or something else.
"Christine, wait" Christen grabs her hand as she strides past them "What's wrong"
"She's unbelievable and all yours. I'm done"
Christen heads straight for you room, alone. The rest of the team know that there is conversation that needs to be had between the two of you and they had no right to be a part of it.
The sight itself is worrying. You are laid in the hospital bed, hooked up to several hospital wires and have a nasal cannula which is helping you breathe. All in all you didn't look well and it made the next words that came out of your mouth that much more frustrating.
"Don't look at me like that, i'm fine" your attempt at reassuring your girlfriend seems to have the opposite affect.
"No more lies Y/N. You're not fine. I watched you die, do you know what that was like?" Christen starts the speech that she had been planning in her head for the last couple of hours.
When you see her eyes begin to well up you want nothing more than to get out of the bed and comfort your girlfriend but you simply didn't have the strength. Instead you used what strength you did have to move over slightly so there was room for her near you.
"Come here"
Christen does so happily. Even though she is mad she has been craving the feeling of being in your arms and the solace it brings her.
"You knew this would happen. It's why you talked about you dying when we laid in the bath. You held me in your arms and we had a conversation which you knew could happen whilst I thought you were being hypothetical"
"I meant what I said. When I die I want you to move on with your life, not live in the past, in our past" once again you cannot bring yourself to make eye contact with your girlfriend.
Christen hovers her hand over your chest before placing it on your heart. The room goes quiet, enough so that you can hear her counting the beats under her breath. She is worried about you and you knew what the next couple of months would look like. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. You never wanted things to come to this and you certainly didn’t want to be the reason for Christen’s pain. It’s why you know the thing you are going to next is the right thing to do.
“Why did Christine leave?”
Well it looks like Christen is going to be the one to initiate the conversation only she has no idea what is about to come.
“I told her i’m not going to have the surgery when I get home. If I do then I'll miss the olympics and that isn’t something I am willing to do. I am going to have another minor surgery and work with the doctors so that I make it until the summer”
Christen lifts her head so she can see your face and what she is met with worries her. You are blank, almost emotionless but it was the facade you chose to put up in order get through this talk.
“No! You—“
“Christen the last few years we have shared have been incredible and I wouldn’t change a thing. I know you are mad at me for keeping this from you but I don’t regret it. If I had it my way you would have never found out. I wanted to protect you from the pain that comes with my condition because I saw what it did to my mom and I won’t have you going through the same worry”
“Y/N” Christen doesn’t like what she is hearing.
“I love you Christen Annemarie Press more than anything in this world and it’s why I can’t be with you”
Her eyes well up within seconds. Her breathing becomes erratic and it matches the increasing beeps on your monitor. You may be calm on the outside but the wires hooked up to your chest tell a different story.
“No. You don’t get to tell me your dying then break up with me, that’s not how this ends, I won’t let it” Christen refuses to acknowledge that you have decided to end your relationship.
“Chris” You reach out for her hand but she pulls away just as your fingertips touch.
“Why are you doing this? We’ve talked about our future, marriage and kids. I may not have known you were sick but you did and you still had those conversations. Were they lies too?”
You get up out of bed against your better judgement. You ignore the pain in your chest and the rapid beeping coming from behind you.
“I never lied to you, I withheld the truth, there is a difference. Those conversations we had were a fantasy, one that made me look forward to a future I knew I might not have. I am doing this because I love you way to much to break your heart just because mine is already broken”
Your emotions are starting to get the better of you whilst Christen has tears rolling down her cheeks. It was naive to believe you could break up with the love or your life and not have her fight for you.
“You are so selfish Y/N” Christen’s sadness has turned into rage “I am willing to stand by your side though all of this and you are pushing me away. You are making a decision for our future without letting me have a say”
“I might not have a future Christen!”
The volume of your tone is the last straw. Doctors who had been monitoring your vitals come rushing into the room to make sure that you are ok, your team mates follow in suit.
“Miss Y/L/N I need you to get back into bed before you rip open your stitches” One of the nurses try to usher you back toward the bed but you don’t move.
“Christen, Listen to me. I am doing this because I love you, one day you will see that. I have to let you go”
Christen waits in your room to hear you out but she doesn’t respond before leaving.
When you are back in bed you cannot bring yourself to look at any of your team mates. There are those that knew and some that didn’t. You chose to stare out the window and your friends leave one by one, soon enough it is just Tobin and Emily in the room.
“You’re not getting the surgery?” Emily asks you. She had been the one to follow Christine to find out what happened.
“I can’t. I want to go to Tokyo and I can’t if I get it. My doctor said the risks are very high given the stress that my heart is currently under and he’s not sure if it can take it. I meant what I said on the pitch, I don’t want to die” The blonde understood your reasoning and didn’t question it any further.
Tobin on the other hand. She has had enough with your stubbornness and you knew that a lecture was coming.
“Please don’t” you beg her
“You two were made for each other and you just threw that away, why?” Tobin asks you.
“Because it easier to mourn someone you hate than someone you love”
The next month was tough. You were back in Portland, a place you called home, but you had never felt more alone. Your friends were mad at you for not getting surgery, even Christine only spoke to you when her captain duties called for it. Christen spent the first week after the incident texting and messaging you. She was fighting for your relationship but you couldn't step into the ring for her.
You had to take a temporary step back from the team to recover and get back to a place where you can play high level soccer. You released a statement saying that you were stepping away in order to focus on your health. You didn't give the fans anymore details and they respected your wishes, the press on the other hand, well they wanted to know what the damage was.
Truth is you missed your friends and the loneliness that your stubbornness caused became overwhelming which only made things worse. Your doctor was pleased with the improvements you were making but after the first few weeks things took a turn for the worse. The temporary surgery you had in Arizona had reached its limits a lot sooner than your doctor had hoped.
It was three months later when it came to a head.
"When do I have to make the decision?" you ask.
You had just completed another round of tests and as you sit in your doctor's office you can tell by the energy in the room and the lack of eye contact of his behalf that things weren't good.
"I would like to do this as soon as possible and before you ask, it is my recommendation that we do the full repair"
"But what about the risks? I want to go to Tokyo and you said the best way for me to do that is to have the smaller surgery and reevaluate when I get back"
"Y/N if we don't do this surgery I cannot guarantee that you make it to the summer"
"So what you're saying is I have the surgery or become part of the 27 club?" You let out a small chuckle but nothing about this was funny.
"I'm sorry things have come to this and I know it isn't what you wanted"
"It's ok, these things happen" It was as if you had already admitted defeat.
When you get up from your chair it's as if time had slowed down. You walked over the window which ironically looks over Providence park. You had made so many memories there and you truly thought you would have years to make more, now though you're not too sure.
"Can I give you a piece of advice?" your doctor stands beside you "Talk to someone. It doesn't have to be about this but you can't close yourself off from everybody. You shouldn't keep your friends at arms length Y/N, they are there because they want to support you"
"I don't want to become their problem"  you confess.
"I made a promise to someone but they're not my patient you are" He goes back to his desk "Christen Press calls my office once a week to get updates on you"
You were both happy and angry after hearing this. On one hand it was nice to know she still cared but you had been killing yourself, literally, so that you could keep her away from this and your doctor has been telling her anyways.
"You had no right"
"No I didn't but it was the right thing to do. That women loves you Y/N. When faced with death most of my patients live life there's no tomorrow. They do all the things that are on their bucket list, they make memories with their friends and confess their feelings but you, you have done the opposite. You refuse to see or speak to anyone unless it is unavoidable and you push away the woman you love most in this world. I made a decision, one that I won't apologise for"
At this point your doctor was like family so he didn't mind calling you out when your were being stubborn or stupid.
"What if I hurt her?"
Dying doesn't scare you because you had been preparing for it your entire life. Being the reason that Christen cries herself to sleep at night, that is one of your greatest fears.
"You already are by pushing her away"
You knew he was right. It became obvious the moment you broke up with her but in your eyes you were hurting her a little bit now in order to keep from hurting a lot more later on.
"Can I call you tomorrow with an answer?"
"Of course"
When you leave his office your phone feels like it's burning a hole in your pocket. Every part of you wanted to hear Christen's voice but something was stopping you.
Ignorance had been your greatest ally as of late. If you weren't at the hospital or at rehab then you would tell yourself that you are healthy but you were no longer able to ignore the uncertainty of your future. Portland has been home since you went No1 in the draft so subconsciously you take yourself to Providence park which isn’t all that strange considering it’s about this time of day when training ends. You stop at a poster of you and Tobin after you won the championship last season, the two of you looked so happy and carefree.
"It's a good photo" you don't need to turn around in order to know who is there.
"Y/N and Heath, Portland's unstoppable force" It was a nickname that the fans gave the both of you years ago and it has stuck ever since.
"Well one of us is" Tobin jokes.
"I guess I deserve that. I've missed you Tobs" you hug her tightly with a force that she returns.
"You're scaring us Y/N. Everyone is worried about you. Christen isn't herself, she is barely sleeping, every time she closes her eyes she sees you on that pitch or worse. She told me the other night that she finds herself walking through cemetery and it is your headstone that she goes to"
"I never wanted any of this to happen. I just wanted to protect her, you do know that don't you?"
"Of course I do and she does too. I know you don't want to talk about it but please tell me you're getting better" Tobin pleads.
"I wish I could. I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to put you in a position where you have to lie but I need to have the big surgery, the one I have been putting off, and i'm not sure if i'm ready to have it yet"
"You're scared?" Tobin asks and you nod "You will make the right decision Y/N and I know you want to do this alone but if you want me to then i'll be by your side through it all"
The offer meant more than Tobin knew. You truly thought that your behaviour over the past couple of months had burnt the bridges that you call your friendships.
"Thank you Tobin"
She joins you as you wander the city but after an hour she picks up on the fact that you wanted to be alone and before leaving she reminds you once again that she is only a call away should you need her.
You find a bench that over looks the water. You put your earphones in and dial Christen's number, praying to the higher powers that she answers, she doesn't. It didn't come as a surprise, you didn't deserve her time. You try again only this time you decide to leave a voicemail.
"Hi bab—, sorry I mean Christen, it's Y/N. I have been told that I should talk to someone and you are the first person that came to my mind. I—“
"Y/N? Are you ok? Is something wrong"
"Christen?" you pull your phone out of your pocket to see if the call has connected "you didn't pick up, I thought I was leaving a voicemail"
"Sorry I was in the shower. Is everything ok?"
"I want to talk to you but I need you to treat me like the old Y/N, not the weak and broken Y/N"
"You're not broken Y/N. You are human and sometimes humans get sick"
"Chris, please"
"Girlfriend Y/N or cocky and confident Y/N? Just so I know which Y/N I am speaking to?" she chuckles slightly as she allows herself to get lost in the game are playing.
"The one that loves you unconditionally"
"My favourite Y/N"
You ignore the butterflies that you feel when you hear Christen's voice. Despite everything that is going on with you and her, she still manages to calm you down without even trying.
"I remember the first time you took me home to meet your family, I was so nervous. I know how much they mean to you and although you are this independent woman who doesn't need anyones approval, you still wanted theirs and I thought for certain I wouldn't get it"
This was news to Christen. She couldn't have imagined this is how you felt given the way you strode into the Press family full of confidence and not willing to let anyone get in the way of your relationship.
"I didn't know that"
"Can you remember the end of the night when you Dad asked to speak to me outside?" you hear Christen hum on the other end "That was the calmest I had been the entire night"
"Y/N, that doesn't make sense"
"It does because I knew the 'nobody will be good enough for my daughter' speech was coming. He asked me if I deserved to be in his daughters life and I said no. It was an easy answer because although I had known you for a few years, we had only being dating for a few months and in that time you showed me just how amazing you are and part of me knew from the moment I met you that you were too good for me Christen. The next morning Channing and Tyler cornered me in the kitchen and asked me the same type of question. The only person who didn't was your mom"
"She told me to tell that she's really mad at you"
"She'll have to get in line. Can I continue?"
You take her silence as a yes.
"Your mom asked me why I don't trust that her daughter is making the right decision. I said because i'm not capable of loving you like you deserve and whether it be in one year or ten years, I will break your heart"
"Y/N"
"She told me breaking someone's heart isn't always a bad thing because if you have the power to do that then they must love you with every fibre of their being and that isn't something to be sad about. She said when the day comes, I won't do it on purpose because if I do then I would be hurting myself in the process"
"When the day comes? She knew?"
"I asked myself the same question. Her words were filled with so much comfort that I was sure she did but it wasn't possible"
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I knew from day one that this wasn't going to end well and I pursued it anyways. I was selfish and I have hurt you when I spent years making sure that didn't happen"
When the line goes quiet you are sure that Christen has hung up. You wouldn't be angry if she did, it was nice of her to give you the time that she had.
"Can you remember the night before the world cup final when we walked the streets of Paris?"
This is how the rest of the night went. You and Christen went back and forth sharing your favourite memories from your time together. Every so often she would change the subject to your health but it was only for a second then she would go back to her story.
The night draws in and the temperature drops but you are too content sitting by the water, admiring the view and talking to Christen. A dog comes running up to you, the bark makes Christen question where you are.
"Y/N where are you?"
"On a bench"
"You should go home"
"But I don't want to say goodbye"
Both of you go silent. The heaviness of the words you just said bring back the reality of what has been going in.
"There's no reason for you to say goodbye" Christen says and it's obvious even she didn't believe the words that are coming out of her mouth.
"Chris"
"No, I won't have this conversation with you over the phone. If you want to say your goodbyes then you do it in person"
"I love you and my heart, as broken as it may be, belongs to you and it will do until my last day on earth and then long into the afterlife"
A strong sense of Deja Vu hits you and Christen. You had said this before but the meaning is different now.
"Stop"
"I need surgery Christen and the risks are high but if I don't have it then I don't know how long—“
"Y/n, please" Christen begs you from her end of the phone "I know you broke up with me and I know why but I love you"
"Christen, stop. I can tell what you're thinking. Please don't come to Portland"
"But I want to be with you"
"I am only a phone call away but I need space to do this ok?"
"I want to make a deal. No more radio silence. You call me every day, whether it is a good day or a bad one. I'll give you your space but I need you in my life"
Christen's determination was admirable and you wouldn't expect anything less.
"We have a deal"
"Pinky promise?"
"Ok"
"I need to hear you say it"
"Christen I pinky promise to call you everyday"
You decided not to get the major surgery. Life is short, you know this more than most, so you took your chances and worked with the physios to get you fit and healthy in time for the summer. It was difficult and there were days that you felt like giving up but you persisted, maybe a little too hard.
The bad days came along more than the good days but you kept your promise to christen. You called her everyday, sometimes twice.
You were promised a spot on the olympic roster if the doctors cleared you. It didn't matter if you didn't take part in the camps. The staff and players knew you belonged on the team, you could take a year off and still step on the pitch like no time had passed.
Just before the send off series, a rematch against Canada was organised. Due to the history of the fixture both teams felt they owed the fans a full 90 minute match. They agreed to have the game in Portland seen as though the city means so much to you.
Christen wanted to go to your apartment as soon as she landed but in the end she chooses to respect your wishes.
Your absence in the locker room was obvious. It was the first time that the national team had played without you in years and each player struggled with the thought of not having you on the pitch with them. Christen kept checking her phone every few minutes, you hadn’t had your morning call and something didn’t feel right. What she saw next seemed to add fuel to the fire.
“You can’t wear that?” Christen says when she watches Mallory change into her shorts. There on the left side was the number 7.
“Y/N told me to wear it” Mal’s defence was honest. She remembers getting the call from you, at first it was strange but then you explained the reason why and the young forward saw it as an honour.
“She would never do that” it is Tobin who speaks up “It’s her number and she wouldn’t give it up, not when she knows she’s—“ your best friends stops herself when she realises what you have done.
“When she’s what?” Mal asks.
“Never mind” Tobin retreats to her locker where she tries to call you only to get your voicemail.
The game ends in a 1-1 draw. Both halves were uneventful but the post match press conference made up for that. Canada goes first and as Christine Sinclair sits down she has no idea what she is in for.
The US team watch from the changing room given that their captain is next and they want to see what she gets asks.
“Christine do you have a comment on the latest news regarding your Portland Thorns team mate Y/N Y/L/N?”
It was a question that threw not only her off but the entire USWNT locker room. As far as they were aware you were recovering well and on track to return to the team.
“What news is that?” Christine says as she ignores the pit that is forming in her stomach.
“What are they talking about?” Christen asks Tobin. The insecurities of been left in the dark regarding your condition come straight to the surface.
“I don’t know” Tobin tries to hide her worry.
The journalist who asked the question remains quiet. It was clear that Christine didn’t know what he was talking about and he knew that a press conference wasn’t the right place to tell her and he shouldn't be the one to do so.
“Tell me, please” Christine encourages the journalist.
“I have a source that tells me Y/N was brought into OHSU this morning by ambulance and that she was rushed into emergency heart surgery” she can tell by the tone of his voice that he didn’t want to say it.
“This press conference is over” Christine leaves and heads straight for the opposing teams locker room.
The room that holds your team is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They were all in a state of shock that left them frozen in their spot. The first to move is Emily who calls your number time and time again hoping that if she does it enough then you will pick up. Tobin is next, she calls you mom who doesn’t answer either.
“Hello”
Christen’s voice fills the locker room.
“Ok, I understand”
Her team mates watch and wait for her to tell them something, anything. Christen takes a deep breathe before turning her attention to the team.
“That was her doctor’s office. All they can tell me is that she is in surgery”
Christen takes a deep breath. A few days ago she begged you for honesty and against your better judgement you gave it to her. You told her everything and what followed was never part of your plan. After cooking a meal together over face time Christen asked you to say goodbye and you knew you owed her that. It wasn't a sad goodbye and you didn't talk about your past. You talked about a life where you are healthy, get married, have children and live long enough to grow old together then at the end you said your goodbyes.
It is the reason why Christen remains in her locker when the rest of the team get ready to go the hospital. Even as Christine comes to tell them the news that they already know, she remains still and calm.
"Christen, get your stuff together, we need to go" Tobin tells her.
Yet she doesn't move.
"I'm not going"
"I understand that things aren't great between the two of you but this is bad and she needs you"
That's the thing, even though you wasn't dating, you and Christen were in a good place. There were no more lies between you and it made your friendship stronger than it ever was.
"I've already said my goodbye and I don't want my last memory to be of her in a hospital bed"
The team couldn't believe what they were hearing. They had no idea you were at a point when goodbyes were necessary.
Given the seriousness of the surgery you were having, most of the team decide to go back to the hotel while a handful of them went to to the hospital.
Christen however asks for space and the team give it to her. She doesn't go back to the hotel, instead she goes to your apartment and uses the key you gave her to let herself in. She goes straight to your room and gets changed into a pair of your joggers and grabs a hoodie as she brings it up to her nose she takes a deep breathe in, it smelled just like you.
She gets into your bed, the one that you shared many times before. Then she gets her phone, opens up your thread of messages and scrolls until she find the one she is looking for. It was a voice note followed by the text 'don't listen now. Wait until it's time'. At first she thought it was vague but right now she knew now is the time you were referring to.
Hearing your voice knowing that there's a chance she won't hear it in person again brings Christen to tears and all you're doing is mumbling words of frustration as you have knocked a drink over whilst recording.
"Sorry about that. Now, what was I going to say? Oh yeah, I love you. It's been a while since I have told you that but if you're listening to this then i'm guessing you need to hear it. I know you are scared right now but I want you to know everything is going to be ok, I promise"
"How can you promise that?" Christen says to the phone.
"And I can promise that because you are one of the strongest people I have ever met"
She laughs at little at how much you know her.
"I know we said our goodbyes but now I want to say thank you. Living the life I have means that I have cherished everyday I've spent on this earth and those days have been better than I could have ever imagined because I got to share them with you. You see I was determined not to fall in love but then you came along and I found out how naive I was to think I had a choice in the matter"
"I didn't have a choice either Y/N" she replies as if you are there in the room with her.
"I never feared death growing up but now the thought petrifies me and it's because I have something to lose and somebody to live for. I want a future with you, I want to marry you, will you marry me? No Y/N what are you doing you can't ask the women to marry you over voice note pull yourself to together"
A small chuckle escapes christen's lips are she listens to you tell your self off.
"Would you marry me?"
She had never heard you sound this unsure before.
"I would" she answers your questions.
"I hope you said yes otherwise this next part is going to be very awkward. I take it your in my apartment right now and in my bed, if I am correct then you can open the draw to the left of you where you will find a small box"
Christen's interest had spiked. How did you manage to plan all of this over a voice note. Just as you said she finds a red box and awaits further instructions.
"Open it"
She does so and finds a diamond ring.
"This ring is open for interpretation but for me it's a reminder. Should I die I want you to remember the love that I have for you. I bought it during the world cup but I told myself that I would only give you it after I had told you about my condition. Can I class this as me giving it to you?"
You are about to answer your own question once again but out of nowhere you begin coughing and Christen winces at the sound. She doesn't know when you recorded the message but given that you are in surgery she can guess it was recorded in the last couple of days.
"Sorry, give me a minute"
Christen listens as you try to get your breath back.
"I really hope this is not the last time you hear my voice" she can tell you are scared.
"My dying wish is that you find peace"
"Don't say that" Christen begs.
"I truly am sorry for the pain that I have caused you. I never wanted it to happen. Goodbye my love"
Christen waits for you to say to more but you don't. That is the last part of the voice note. She lays in your bed long enough to watch the sunset through your window. In the same draw that held the ring is a photo album, one that you had made. There were photos taken over your career, of you and your friends and quite a few of you and her.
Later that night Christen receives a text from Tobin saying that you are out of surgery and that you should wake up in a few hours once the anaesthesia has worn off. Then she received a second message saying that you had woken up but Christen stayed in your apartment. When her phone goes off again she assumes it will be Tobin asking why she hasn't come to visit but that isn't the case.
Have you been watering my cactus?
Christen cannot believe it. You have just had major heart surgery and this is the thing you say.
You don't need to water a cactus. They live in the desert.
I knew that. I was just testing you.
She doesn't get the chance to respond before you send another message.
I know I scared you. Will you come and see me? It doesn't have to be today, it can be in a couple of days or whenever you are ready. It's not like I can go anywhere.
I'll come by the day after tomorrow. You need your rest.
You were disappointed to receive Christen's reply. You may have been surrounded by your mom and close friends but the only person want to see wasn't there.
Just as she said, Christen walks the halls of the hospital two days later. She finds your room but cannot muster up enough courage to go inside.
"She's ok" your mom's voice causes her to turn on her heels "The wires make it look worse than it actually is"
"I don't know if i'm ready to see her like that yet" Christen admits. It was the reason why she had waited this long to come.
"I understand but she has been waiting for you. You were the first person she asked for when she woke up"
"Is she alone?"
"No Tobin is in there with her now. She hasn't left the hospital since she got here after the game but she was asleep when I left. I'll give you some time with her" and with that your mom walks away.
The door to your hospital room opens and you are expecting your mom or more doctors but instead it is the person you love most in the world.
"Hi"
When you see Christen you notice the dark circles in her eyes and the way her smile is forced. You look her up and down as if doing your own inspection and that is when you see it.
Christen is overcome with emotion as she saunters over towards you and before you can say anything her lips are on yours. Nothing in this world compared to moments like this, when your connection with Christen is proven through a small act of intimacy.
When you pull apart Christen sits on the side of your bed.
"Nice ring" you hold her hand up just enough to see the diamond glisten in the lights.
"Crappy proposal"
At least now you know Christen listened to the voice note and wasn't just snooping around.
"It's wasn't a proposal remember? And I don't recall telling you which finger it was for" There is a hint of playfulness in your voice but the truth of the matter is you were happy to see Christen wearing the ring but then she takes it off and gives it to you.
"Y/N you gave me this ring because you thought our story was over but it isn't. Regardless of how long it is, we have a future together and I want to spend it with you so no more running, no more secrets or lies and no more protecting me from this" Christen gentles rests her index finger on your heart "You may not have proposed but right here I take the vow to love you in sickness and in health and to be your partner in the good times and bad"
You didn't know what to say. Christen knew everything and she still chose to stand by your side. You always said you didn't deserve her and now you know this more than ever but the difference is you are determined to spend your life making up for the years you spent keeping her in the dark. You will earn back her trust and show her just how much you love her.

Reality (Christen Press x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Pretty sure you can hear my heart break at some point in the fic (:
You and Christen became friends through soccer in middle school. A time when you start beginning to explore the world a little more, you get curious about many things.
You remember those days perfectly, completely engraved in your memory, and if you were to close your eyes you could practically see those memories and replay them, which you do to this day.
Closing your eyes to remember it all.
Seventh grade, that’s when you both met.
“Are you Y/N?” Christen asks you on the first day of practice. You’re startled as you put your cleats on, you look up and see a girl with green eyes and curly hair.
“Yeah.” You say nodding your head, confused on how she knew you.
“Cool nice to finally meet you. I think we have History together?” Christen says with a smile. “You sit behind me.”
“Yeah. We do.” You say shyly. “And yes I sit right behind you.”
“You’re really shy.” Christen says and you look down. “Come on, me and you, let’s go warm up together.”
Christen ran towards the field, leaving her group of friends behind, turning back and looking at you, waiting for you.
“You coming or not?” Christen says and you run towards her. “You’re slow.”
You stay silent and look at her. She intimidated you. Her eyes beautiful but sometimes you felt like they could see right through you.
“I’ll nickname you turtle, for being slow.” Christen says and you let out a laugh. “And she laughs.”
Neither of you didn’t know why but you both just clicked, like if you two were the last two missing pieces of a puzzle. It felt like you both knew each other forever.
A beautiful friendship that grew over many months. A bond that grew, tying you both to each other.
A year into the friendship you started to feel things you didn’t completely understand. Walking to Christen you looked at how she was talking to her friends, hands in your pockets as you approached her.
“Can we talk?” You whisper to Christen and she nods.
“What’s up?”
“I think.. I like you.” You whisper.
“You like me?” Christen asks and you nod your head. “Y/N..”
“I know it’s weird and maybe I don’t really understand what I’m feeling but you’re different.”
“Y/N I don’t feel the same way.” Christen says, you’re actually not hurt but you’re confused.
What the hell were you feeling then?
“I don’t want this to ruin our friendship.” You say and Christen grabs your arm.
“It won’t I promise. It’s me and you forever. Okay?”
“Okay.”
Like nothing happened, you moved on. Like if you didn’t just maybe confess your love to her. Your mind was racing and you were definitely just a big confused.
Fortunately Christen was right, nothing changed in your friendship. It was still you two doing everything together. Absolutely everything.
“Wait up for me.” You shout as you run towards Christen and her neighbor. “Mind if I walk with you?”
“You live on the other side Y/N. You’ll be getting home late.” Christen says and you shrug it off.
“I wanna walk you home, you know make sure you get home safe.” You say and Christen sighs, looking at you worryingly. “Come on you know I always try to walk you home when I can of course.”
“Okay but let me carry your books, I want to look smart too you know.” Christen says snatching your Algebra books from you. “You’re not the only smart one here, I’m smart.”
“She’s not that smart.” Christen’s neighbor says and you laugh.
“Rude.” Christen says as you all begin to walk towards Christen’s street. “Come on turtle we both know you’re slow.”
“Turtle?” Christen’s neighbor asks.
“It’s my nickname for Y/N. Gave it to her when we met.” Christen says as you continue to walk. Christen turns to look at you while you’re looking around seeing the houses on the street. Her neighbor watching you both from the side, a small smirk on their face as she watched what was being unfolded.
“Huh. Okay.”
Nothing changed. It never did.
You held her hand when you were anxious, she made sure to give it three squeezes. It made you feel safe, secure. It was almost like she was home when being away from home.
“You’re okay. It’s me and you forever.” Christen says and you nod.
“Me and you forever.”
Years passed, high school came along, you both still being the best of friends. Closer than ever.
“Hey, you and me, carnival for the Fourth of July?” Christen asks as she sits next to you during lunch. “This weekend.”
You had no idea how Christen, being so popular became friends with you in seventh grade. It hit you sometimes that Christen was very popular in school, she always had been, you on the other hand well weren’t as much.
With so many friends Christen always made sure you were the most important to her. Or at least tried. She tried, but sometimes she failed but you wouldn’t tell her that because you knew that there was always someone else that would come before you even if Christen said otherwise.
“Sure yeah I just gotta ask but yeah I’ll go.” You say as you take a bite of what seemed to be some type of chicken.
“It’s tradition! We always go to the carnival on the Fourth of July together. It can’t be different this year.” Christen says and you laugh.
“I’m sure my parents will let me go just like they have been for the past couple of years.”
“Great! So how have classes been?” Christen asks.
“Pre calc has been kicking my ass. Like literally, I got hit in the ass the other day by a book because someone decided to get angry at the book where we learn our material from and I was walking by. The book went flying straight to my ass.”
“Oof. Rough. Is it that bad? Let me check.”
“Yes because I’m going to let you check my ass. No. So what about you, how are classes going?” You ask Christen as you play with your food.
“Foreign language, that’s the class that has been kicking my ass. I can barely get a C on any quizzes.”
“You need to study Chris, you’re trying to get into Stanford.” You say looking at Christen.
“So are you.”
“Yeah but it’s kind of your dream go get into Stanford.”
“Then help me study. Here are my notecards for this weeks quiz.” Christen says and your eyes widen as you set your fork down.
“Oh you mean now? Okay.”
“What up lovebirds.” You look up to see a friend of both of yours.
“For the last time we are not dating. I don’t understand why this keeps happening.” Christen says with a sigh. “We’re best friends, nothing more.”
“I’m not looking for trouble I’m just here to see if you guys are going to the carnival. Most important if my beloved Y/N would go with me.”
“We are are going, together.” Christen says. “As always. Me and Y/N.”
“And you ask why it keeps happening.”
It was true, people constantly thought you two were dating. But you were well aware Christen was straight you learned that years ago. Yet nothing changed. You two were still the best of friends.
The day came when you were both opening acceptance letters. Christen got into Stanford and while you did too, you decided to head to University of California, Berkeley. You wanted a little change.
But also wanting to get rid of the feelings that had resurfaced senior year. Meaning being away from Christen for some time.
College was different and absolutely terrifying for the first couple of weeks. Trying to find your classes and also waking up for practice. A huge adjustment. All of that without Christen, who usually helped you out was something you weren’t prepared for.
There you met Alex. You and Alex also began a beautiful friendship.
Christen found out about you and Alex, not that you two were dating because you weren’t, but just that Alex seemed to have been very important to you. And although she wasn’t going to tell you, she wasn’t very fond of whatever was happening.
Christen always had a problem with people being very touchy with you or getting close to you. It made you wonder why she would act the way she did. You just never understood her behavior sometimes.
Your friendship went from smooth to very rocky in a blink of an eye and you didn’t know what was going on but you held onto Alex, she helped you through it all.
One weekend you decided to go to a basketball game with Alex. What you didn’t know was everything was about to change.
You walked into the gymnasium where the players were warming up. You and Alex walked inside to find some of your other friends. Alex holding your hand as she learned that you were quick to get anxious. You finally found your friends sitting on the home team side of the gym.
“Ah you made it! Good to see you guys here.”
“Well we weren’t going to miss it.” Alex says.
You looked at the players running, resting your head on Alex’s shoulder. You hear a laugh and turn your head. There she was, Christen. With her boyfriend. Sitting behind you and Alex. Of all places, of all seats, sitting behind you.
“Hey don’t pay any attention to her. It’s me and you right here. Just us.” Alex says turning her head and looking at you, placing her hand on top of yours. “Me and you.”
“Me and you.” You whisper nodding your head.
“I will say she does not look happy to see me.” Alex whispers as she discreetly looks back. “Does she always look at people like that?”
“Like what?”
“Like she wants me dead.” Alex says and you laugh.
“No.”
“Then she does not look happy to see that I’m with you.”
“I’ll talk to her later.”
“I wouldn’t.”
You should’ve listened to Alex. You talked to Christen later that night and Christen didn’t like it one bit. To this day you still don’t understand why she was so upset, so upset she decided being friends wasn’t the best idea.
So while you remember the memories you had with Christen when closing your eyes, you had to open them.
You opened your eyes to reality.
- - - -
“Hey you okay?” Alex asks and you nod, stretching your arms and legs.
“Yeah. Better.” You say with a smile.
“Well come on it’s our second national team camp and it starts as soon as we get off this plane and to the hotel.” Alex say nudging you.
“You have too much energy.”
“I’m surprised you don’t, you just took a long nap. But seriously come on they’re probably waiting for us already. Come on we’re not rookies anymore we’re vets.”
“I can’t believe we even graduated college. Also I wouldn’t even consider us close to being vets, give it like four more years if we even make it.”
“I mean I can believe you did, I’m just still surprised to this day that I did.” Alex says making you laugh. “We’re getting new people this camp so I’d say we’re not new rookies.”
“Sure. It’s camp time!” You shout.
National team camp, meant seeing a face you haven’t really seeing much other than games. It meant seeing Christen. Christen got called up for the first time. You were happy for her, truly but also it was just your luck.
Walking into the hotel you were met with the rest of the team.
“I’m scared.” You whisper to Alex.
“It’s okay, I’m right here. It’s me and you Y/N. Me and you.” Alex whispers as you both walk in hand in hand.
You knew you couldn’t have her, you never could. It was something you had to accept. You just couldn’t though, it was too hard, it has just been too hard.
So you closed your eyes and breathed in then breathed out. You were safe with Alex. Safe with Alex. Home with Alex.
“Hey.”
You open your eyes again, only to see green eyes looking at you. In a blink of an eye all of the memories flashed right before your eyes. You froze.
You opened your eyes to reality.
You were looking straight at Christen for the first time in so long. You knew you couldn’t have Christen you knew you would never be able to have her love you like you loved her. You always knew that.
You closed your eyes trying to remember all the beautiful memories you had both shared together. But knowing she was right in front of you, you forced your eyes open and there it was right in front of you. Here it was now. The one thing you always wanted to ignore and never have to face, what you always wanted to avoid.
You were facing reality.

Sick Days with Press
Tumblr media
Reader gets sick in the middle of the night and her girlfriend takes care of her
Christen woke up feeling Y/N jump out of bed, running into the bathroom and slamming the door. at first, The woman thought nothing of it due to the fact that she often overslept because she hit the snooze button so often.
After listening for her to turn on the shower or the sink and not hearing anything, the forward started to worry a little at the silence.
Christen got up from the bed and slid on one of Y/N's sweatshirts, making her way to the bathroom door and knocking on it.
"Y/N? Is everything alright baby?" She asked, her voice gentle and soft.
"Yeah... uh yeah... everything is fin— oh fuck." Y/N gagged, leaning over the toilet to throw up again.
As soon as she heard her gag, Christen opened the door and quickly made her way over to Y/N, her heart aching at the sight of her girlfriend. She was so pale and sweaty, her arms shaking as she held herself over the toilet seat. She looked over at the forward, trying to give her a small smile to reassure her, but the small movement only made Y/N groan and throw up again.
"Oh baby." Christen whispered, grabbing two washcloths and wetting them with cool water. She crouched down on the floor next to her, pushing her hair back from her forehead and dabbing it with the cloth before laying the other one on the back of her neck.
"Don't want you to get sick.” She mumbled, her hand reaching out to squeeze Christen's thigh, trying to reassure the girl that she was okay.
"Don't care about getting sick baby, I just wanna take care of you like how you take care of me and everyone else. Do you think you maybe picked up something from work or something?" Christen's mind was running wild, trying to determine where her girlfriend could have picked up the stomach bug from, making a mental list of everything that she was going to have to go out and get.
"Babe, really I'm– fuck– I’m fine." Y/N gagged, picking herself up and leaning against the bathroom counter. She was shaking as she tried to reach for her toothbrush to get the vile taste out of her mouth and she could feel Christen's eyes on her.
"Nope, we're not doing this. You’re not going to get out of me taking care of you the one time that you're sick just because you want to play the 'my immune system is higher than yours' card." Christen placed her hands on her shoulders, giving them a light squeeze before helping Y/N back to bed.
She helped her lay down, grabbing one of Y/N's sweatshirts out of the drawers when she saw that she was shivering and helping her pull it over her head. The brunette propped up some pillows for her before pulling the covers over her, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"Thank you love." Y/N mumbled, leaning up into the forward's touch, her eyes fluttering closed at the intimate gesture.
"Of course baby. You take care of everyone else all the time, so let me take care of you too okay? It's what I'm here for. now, I'm gonna place this trashcan next to you in case you feel sick again and I think we have some ginger ale or something like that in the cabinets. and oh I’m pretty sure we have some saltines and..." Christen's ranting was interrupted by Y/N grabbing her hand to get her attention.
"You can go get all that in a minute love. right now... right now all I want is for you to come get in bed and hold for a bit until I fall asleep. then you can go get me all of those things please?" her bottom lip was jutted out, batting her eyelashes as a small smirk formed on her face when she saw Christen caving.
"Okay, okay. I'll lay down with you for a bit but then I'm gonna have to go get some medicine and all of that other stuff you need okay? We gotta have my girl feeling 100%." Christen giggled, placing a kiss to her forehead again before crawling behind her girlfriend and wrapping her arms around her waist.

Steady Love (Pt. 2)
Christen Press x Reader
Word Count: 6k
A/N: inspired by Taylor Swift’s ‘Maroon,’ but without the angst part ofc
Part One
[Masterlist]
2007-2009~
The first time you meet Christen, you’re pretty sure you’re going to die. Paired up on opposite teams for the 4 v. 4, you’ve run yourself ragged trying to keep up with the speedy forward.
By the end of the first practice, you can’t feel your legs.
A pair of black cleats come to a stop in front of you, and you squint up to see the most dazzling pair of green eyes ever. They’re accompanied by a shy smile and an even shier voice asking if you wanted to run a few more drills with her.
You don’t have the heart to turn her away and the two of you spend the rest of the daylight practicing. She takes you out to a killer pizza joint as thanks for the extra minutes, and you walk Christen back to her dorm at the end of the night.
You’re smitten from the start.
The LA native is as charming as she is smart. You find yourself spending a lot of your down time with her, whether that be lounging at the beach or hidden away in a secret library hideout. Despite finding her the most beautiful woman on campus, you can’t seem to voice your thoughts to her. Instead, you sit by quietly as countless people, both men and women alike, attempt to ask her out. Christen blushes every time someone tries, but she never says yes in the end. She just politely turns them down and then gets back to spending time with you.
Kelley’s your self-appointed wingwoman from the start. Having realized your relation to Tobin and having taken Christen under her wing as a fellow forward, she does everything in her power to push the two of you together.
That often means embarrassing out of place comments that leave both you and Christen turning red, and more often than not, you groaning at Kelley to go away. Despite all of Kelley’s “help,” you and Christen toe the line between friends and something more for a couple years.
It isn’t until your semi-final loss in the 2008 college cup that Christen does anything about your mutual feelings. It’s there, on the somber North Carolina field where you lay dejected and heartbroken after a hard 1-0 loss, that Christen fixes your heart up. Pressing a kiss against your forehead, she whispers every word she’s ever wanted to say to you. You go out on a date the day after and you’ve been together ever since.
Which has led to this moment here, New Years at the Heaths. For the first time since becoming official, Christen’s decided to accompany you to New Jersey, meeting your family for the first time. Sure, she’s met some of them when they come to your Stanford matches here and there, but this is the first time she’s meeting them as your girlfriend.
So far she’s done great, charmed both of your parents like she did you and formed a light bond with your younger brother. None of your sisters have arrived yet, Perry picking up Tobin from the airport and Katie planning on coming in separately.
It’s between telling Cindy about her summer internship and Jeff the soccer records she wants to break this year that Christen suddenly turns towards you. Due to your close proximity, the two of you clash hard, her wine sloshing dangerously over the edge and dousing you in half of her drink.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry.”
“Chris, it’s fine.” You take the offered napkins and try to soak up as much of the alcohol as you can. Christen seems undeterred, only growing more flustered with every second.
“Um if we soak it in some water right now I think we can get the wine out, but we have to hurry--”
“Christen.” Grabbing your girlfriend’s hands between yours, you pull her in so she’s no longer tugging on the bottom of your shirt. “Breathe, baby. It’s okay.”
Waving off your parents, you drag Christen out of the kitchen.
“You need to change. I’d hate it if I stained your shirt forever just because I was nervous,” she mutters, still wringing her hands.
Trying to lighten the mood, you crack a joke. “If you wanted me to strip, you didn’t need to spill wine on me.”
Christen gives you a shove, but chuckles nonetheless. Happy to have gotten the reaction you wanted, you start towards the staircase. “Come on.”
Christen slows, lingering by the bottom of the stairs. “Are you sure? I think your parents will think we’re… doing things if I go up there with you.”
You roll your eyes. “Trust me when I say my sisters and Jeff have done much worse.”
“Babe,” she huffs, trying to be serious.
“Chris, would you rather stay down here with my family and fend for yourself? I think Katie’s like two minutes out. She’s probably the scariest one out of all of them.”
The mention of your sister has Christen’s eyes opening wider.
“Um, on second thought, I’d love to see your childhood room.”
Chuckling, you head up the stairs towards the end of the hall. Christen’s all wide-eyed as she takes in your posters and trophies littering the room.
She softens at a picture of you and Tobin as kids, front tooth missing as you hold up a first-place trophy in pride. Although you’ve faced each other on the field multiple times, Christen’s yet to actually meet the sister you’re the closest to. There always seems to be an excuse, a missing sweatshirt or late game tiredness, anything that stops her from meeting your sister out on the field with you after a game. But you’ve never pushed her on it, knowing Christen’s slight reverence of your sister’s soccer records.
Today, however, seems to be the day that all changes. The two of you barely make it back onto the main floor before a voice rings out.
“Defiling my sister already, Press?”
Your head snaps to the side, the familiar drawl having you light up at first. But when Christen stiffens next to you, your smile drops.
“Toby,” you warn, running a soothing hand down your girlfriend’s back.
Your older sister simply sticks a hand out, yanking you away from Christen and into a crushing hug.
“Toby!” This time her name is whined out, you struggling to get out of the noogie Tobin’s giving you.
A melodic laughter has you briefly pausing, and there’s a sparkle in Christen’s eyes when you finally escape. Christen willingly offers you her arms when you pout, and she makes sure to gently smooth down your hair.
When you realize how relaxed Christen feels pressed against you right now, you realize Tobin’s plan to put your girlfriend at ease all along.
Tobin gives you a grin when you meet her eyes. Her attention quickly turns back to the girl beside you. “It’s nice to meet you, Christen. Your reputation far precedes you.”
“My reputation?” Christen seems at a genuine loss of words. “I don’t… You’re… you’re Tobin freaking Heath!”
Tobin chuckles. “And? You’re every defense’s worst nightmare. Trust me when I say I hate playing Stanford because (Y/N) is a pain in the ass to get past, but you’re probably the bigger pain in the ass for a team collectively to constantly defend and catch up to.”
Your girlfriend seems at a loss for words. Never would she have thought “Tobin freaking Heath” would take notice of her soccer skills. You know it’s been a lifelong dream of Christen’s to play for the national team. Hell, it’s been yours as well, but it’s one thing to personally know someone who’s being called up, and another to meet them for the first time. Seeing someone you know getting called up so young has only made the two of you push each other harder, and the meritts have long been shown.
Christen takes Tobin’s offered hand, giving her a firm handshake. Tobin can only fake it long enough for half a second to pass before she’s rolling her eyes. “Why am I not surprised you’re someone with a firm handshake?”
Before Christen has the chance to respond, or you to chastise your sister, Tobin’s pulling Christen in for a hug. Your girlfriend is stiff at first, but quickly relaxes into the hug.
“Damn, (Y/N) wasn’t lying when she said your hugs are to die for.”
You turn red at Tobin’s teasing and Christen pulls away to raise an eyebrow at you.
“You give good hugs,” you mutter, face flaming even more when Christen leans in to give you a kiss. You ignore Tobin’s howling laughter and flip her off.
“I think your hugs are to die for too,” Christen smiles, bumping your nose with hers.
Tobin’s face instantly scrunches up in disgust. “Okay, you guys are gross. Go away now.”
Later that night when Christen’s successfully won the love of your two other sisters and the rest of you are getting ready for dinner, Tobin’s leaning in to nudge you in the side.
“Christen seems like a good one,” she hums, not taking her eyes off from where your girlfriend is helping Cindy take rolls out of the oven.
“You really think so?” It’s not that you doubt how good of a person Christen is. You just know how much your family’s approval means to her.
“She’s really doing the world a disservice, being with someone like you,” Tobin teases, sticking her tongue out at you.
Grumbling in dissent, you’re halfway to strangling her when Cindy catches you forcing Tobin into a headlock. “Girls! I know I’ve definitely raised you better than to be this uncivilized. Go help Christen set up the table before she thinks all New Jerseyites are like this.”
Christen merely gives your mother a wink when she places down the plates. “It’s okay. I already know (Y/N)’s a hard one to train.”
“Babe!” you gasp out, quickly releasing your sister to pout and give your girlfriend a hand.
It’s the first of many family dinners you have together, but in that moment, you can only hope Christen will choose you forever.
---
Megan shoving a glass into your hand snaps you back into the present.
It’s been nearly a month since Christen revealed your engagement to the world, and it’s been a crazy month since then. Interviews here and there, public appearances galore, not to mention the number of games you still had to play, both for club and nation. All that has led to this, a Pinoe insisted, wholly unnecessary, bachelorette party. Despite the number of times you protest, the pink haired lady refused to back down, swearing she was going to throw you the “most bangest, wildest, and gayest bachelorette party ever.”
You think it’s premature at best, given she brought up this idea only a week after the engagement, but who are you to argue with your decade-long teammate?
Due to a call you have scheduled with a sponsor, you’re one of the last people to show up. You’re greeted with shouts from some already drunk people when you open the gate into Pinoe’s backyard.
Waving away your thanks, the forward raises the bottle in her hand in question. “Could I offer you some rosé?”
Your response is almost instantaneous. You flinch back, face paling at the name of the wine.
Megan’s body stills, eyes wide and bewildered as she takes in your sudden sullen state. “What?”
Meanwhile, Christen, who gravitates towards you when you arrive, is cringing behind her glass of red wine beside you. Kelley’s not far behind her, a wide smirk plastered on her face. Their reactions aren’t missed by the rest of the team, who quickly crowds around to find out what the fuss is all about.
“What’s so bad about rosé?”
---
2009~
The first thing you register is the pain radiating through your back. Then the pounding in your head. And then the soreness in some… other places.
Eyes fluttering open, you spot the mess of curls sprawled out over your chest. Christen’s already awake, tired green eyes staring down at you with mirth.
“Good morning,” she murmurs. The raspiness of her sleep-laden voice makes your heart skip a beat.
You smile. “A very good morning indeed.”
Christen leans in, pressing a short and chaste kiss against your lips. When she pulls away, way too soon for your liking, you whine, pouting at the look she sends you.
“Don’t even,” she murmurs, sitting up onto her knees and groaning at the popping of her joints. Your eyes trail down her exposed skin, staring abashedly, even as Christen rolls her eyes at you.
Frowning, she takes in the state of the floor. Clothes are thrown everywhere, blankets are also piled up under where you’re still propped up on the floor.
“How’d we end up on the floor anyways?”
Now that you’ve lost the warmth of Christen’s body against yours, you flop back down onto your back. “Your roommate’s cheap-ass screw-top rosé.”
Christen’s eyebrows furrow as she tries to understand your complaint. It must be too early for her critical thinking skills though, as she continues to fix you with a puzzled look.
Sighing heavily, you push yourself back onto your forearms. You fight your urge to smirk when you catch Christen’s eyes lingering on your exposed skin. “Okay, we need to address her choices in wine, but we actually broke your bed last night.”
“What?!” Christen’s head whips back at lightning speed, craning to catch sight of her bed.
The snapped leg of her bed and tilting bed frame only leaves your last night’s activity to your imaginations.
Christen groans, leaning down to press her face against your neck. “I cannot believe we did that.”
“Totally worth it though.”
Your girlfriend’s glare isn’t enough to wipe off the smirk on your face.
“Come on, you can’t say it wasn’t worth it.”
Shoving herself off you, Christen picks up a shirt to pull on. It isn’t until she’s lingering by the door, eying your still curled up body on the floor that she sighs heavily. “Are you coming?”
You’re instantly scrambling up, throwing on a sweater of Christen’s before racing after her.
Not looking where you’re going, you bump right into Christen’s back, the forward having suddenly stopped in the middle of the hallway. You take that moment to run your hand appreciatively up and down against her side, ending with warming your hands up on her abs. You always loved feeling her tight muscles and Christen always loved your wandering hands, but it’s the stiffness in Christen’s posture that has you lifting your head up from where you are pressing a kiss against the back of her neck.
You meet amused hazel eyes accompanied with a wide smirk. Your hands snap away quick from under Christen’s shirt.
“Did you guys have fun last night?”
Face turning red at Kelley’s line of questioning, you quickly brush past your girlfriend, making sure to yank her with you to her kitchen. The smug brunette doesn’t let the half-wall separating you deter her.
“You girls in a hurry to restock your energy?”
“Don’t know what you’re talking about, Kell.”
“Right, those marks on your collarbone are very convincing.” This statement comes from Ali, who’s already leaning against the counter with a cup of coffee in hand. You glare at her, ignoring the defender’s cry of dismay when you swipe away her cup. By now, Christen’s beet red, doing her best to shield herself from the rest of your teammates settled in the living room.
After the events of last night’s party, the rest of them must have slept there while you and your girlfriend got busy in her room.
Kelley cackles at Ali’s observation, letting out a low whistle. “Damn, Pressy. You really did a number on her.”
Shutting your eyes, you will your hangover to go away. You actually woke up in a pretty decent mood, all cuddled up with your girlfriend. Now, however? Now you just want to pack your entire team onto a bus and drive said bus off a cliff.
Settling to instead clean the apartment, you only make it as far as scanning the kitchen counter for trash when you feel like gagging. Scrunching up your nose in disgust, you grab the empty rosé bottle, intending on putting it in the recycle bin. Ali has other ideas though. You don’t even have time to protest before she’s stealing the bottle from you.
“No more rosé for you two horndogs.”
That sets off the rest of your team again.
You can tell Christen’s plotting the slow death of your teammates, so you quickly lean towards her.
“If we start making out right now do you think they’ll all go away?” you mutter.
This time you’re laughing with everyone else when she shoves you away.
---
The night’s starting to wind down. Emily has long fallen asleep on Lindsey and you can tell the buzz is starting to wear off the rest of the team. Most people are just quietly chatting amongst themselves, no longer going ham and playing games.
Megan leans back towards Sue, letting out a low groan. “Damn, the two of you have such a cute relationship.”
Christen simply smiles, hooking a finger around yours.
You let out a hum, not disagreeing with the forward. “You know we almost broke up once, right?”
That captures the room’s attention. Megan sits up, suddenly more alert than she’s been all night. “What?”
“Don’t you remember when I left in the middle of the season at Sounders Women and was gone for a hot minute?”
---
2012~
You’ve been staring at your phone for the past two hours, almost as if the harder you stared, the faster it’d ring. Christen’s game had ended hours ago, and you’ve been waiting for the forward to call you ever since.
After college you and Christen both got drafted to the WPS. Christen went to DC while you ended up reuniting with Kelley in Boston.
You knew your girlfriend was proud of you when you got your first international cap a month after you graduated, and even more so when you joined the team on their trip to the World Cup in 2011. You barely played any minutes, but just being with the team was an experience. The entire time, however, you couldn’t help but feel guilty at leaving your girlfriend behind. It’s clear how much it was killing Christen not to be called up, but nerves about your own career and Christen’s focus on expanding hers leads to neither of you talking about it much. Maybe that’s where the first mistake starts.
When the league folds, you’re quick to fly out to Seattle along with some of your national team teammates. Christen, on the other hand, goes abroad, heading for Sweden. Although you know she did it to improve her soccer playing in hopes of making the national team, you hated how far away she had to be to do it.
The nine hour time difference made it hard to have a decent conversation, but the two of you try your best. Everything’s great at the beginning. Countless phone calls, weekly skype dates, anything to still keep your relationship alive.
But then texts start to fade, phone calls seem less enthused. It’s been months now and the silence only seems to be growing longer and longer. Each time you propose flying out to see her, Christen declines, not wanting to take away from your own season in Seattle.
At this point you’re not sure what else you can do.
You’re just about to leave for practice when your phone rings. Fumbling for the phone that’s in your back pocket, you quickly jam the answer button when you yank it free.
“This isn’t working for me anymore.” It’s quick, it’s quiet, it’s cutting. Christen’s words have your breath dying in your throat before you can even say hello.
“What? Chris, I--”
“I’m sorry, I know this isn’t fair of me to do. But I can’t stop feeling jealous of everything you do, even though you deserve it all. I need to focus on myself right now.” There’s a slight tremble to Christen’s voice, but she holds strong.
“Babe, slow down, I--” your voice cracks and you have to try hard to swallow the lump in your throat. “Look, we can work through this just--”
“I can’t, I’m sorry. Everything, the distance, our lives, nothing’s clicking anymore.”
“Chris, just wait--”
“I don’t want to hold you back anymore.”
“Babe, you’re not holding me back.”
“(Y/N)--”
“I love you. Please don’t do this.” You’re begging now, well aware of how pathetic you sound.
Never in a million years would you have thought that Christen would break up with you. The two of you have had your fair share of arguments, when you were still in college together as well as the first year going long distance after being drafted. You’ve always been able to resolve things though. You’re not sure why you thought this would be any different.
There’s a choked sob on the other line. Your heart clenches at the sound.
“Chris--”
“I love you. I do. I just… I’m sorry.”
You’re not expecting the dial tone when it rings out against your ear. The longer you stay on the empty line, the more reality sets it. Christen just broke up with you. Christen just broke up with you.
You’re not sure if you want to cry or throw up.
Eventually you slide down against the wall, pressing your face against your knees. There’s a tightness to your chest. You’re not sure if it’ll ever go away.
A loud bang has you jolting out of your feeble position.
Alex, who’s always perpetually late to leaving for practice, slides to a stop in front of you. She freezes, hands still in the middle of tying her hair up. Her eyes dart between the phone still clutched in your hands and your bloodshot eyes. She yanks her headphones out of her ears.
“Erm, what’s wrong?”
“Fuck off, Alex,” you spit out, wiping hard at your eyes. You know it’s unwarranted. It’s not Alex’s fault Christen just broke up with you, nor is the fact that she’s had the unfortunate act of being your roommate.
The forward ignores your quip, choosing instead to sit down next to you.
She doesn’t say anything.
The seconds tick by.
By now you’re 100% sure you’re both late for practice.
More time passes.
Eventually the silence becomes too much for you.
“I think Christen just broke up with me.”
“What?” Alex whips her head around at your words.
“She said…” just having to repeat Christen’s words made you feel even sicker. You swallow hard. “She said it wasn’t working for her anymore.”
You get up on shaky legs.
Alex only tilts her head up at you in question when you start shoving your feet into your slides. “Where are you going?”
“Practice. Where are you going?”
You can’t do anything but follow her blindly when Alex suddenly makes a beeline for your room. She digs out a bag from under your bed and starts shoving clothes into it. You’re still dazed from the rapid change in Alex’s behavior that all you can do is stare.
“Go to Sweden.”
“Excuse me?”
“Book a flight out to Sweden. Go get your girl,” she repeats, spinning around to raise an eyebrow at you.
“I don’t think she wants to see me.”
“Well I don’t think she knows what she wants if she’s breaking up with you,” the brunette shoots back, shoving the half-packed bag of clothes into your arms. Alex all but ushers you out the door, pushing you into the passenger side seat of her car.
“Al, wait, we have practice--”
“Missing one day is fine.” Your eyebrows nearly shoot to your hairline. Alex Morgan voluntarily missing practice? Whoever this person sitting beside you is, is not the breakout USWNT forward you’ve come to know.
“And if coach asks where I am the next couple days?”
“I’ll just say you have some personal things you have to deal with. No one will mind.”
For the amount of shit you give Alex, she’s a great friend to have. In less than an hour, you’re seated on an airplane headed towards Sweden.
The fifteen hour flight leaves you with a lot of time to think.
You know that Christen’s been struggling with soccer recently. Her dreams of making the national team only dims with every missed call-up. With every call you’ve seen her enthusiasm wane.
At first your calls would encompass everything. How life is going in your respective cities. The places you’ve seen, the people you’ve met. Lately all they’ve been about is soccer. How each other’s games have gone. What could have been better. Never about the national team. You never bring it up, not wanting to accidentally hurt her feelings. Christen never does either, not wanting to talk about the things she’s missing out on.
Maybe if the two of you talked about it more, this would have never happened. You could have reassured Christen some more, and she would’ve not felt like she had to go through her career herself.
You dream of every scenario that can play out when you get to her place. Christen not opening the door. Christen opening the door but to only slam it in your face. Christen opening the door, not slamming it in your face, but repeating her desire to break up with you.
Okay, maybe you only dream of the worst case scenarios. But Christen’s the one who broke up with you so you really don’t have a reason to think of anything positive.
It’s pouring when you get to Gothenburg.
You blearily make your way to the cafe lounge. Sleep did not come easily on the fifteen hour flight, so you’ve been awake over 24 hours now after waking early to catch Christen’s game.
It’s there, when you’re inhaling a cup of black coffee that a splash of color catches your eyes. You frown at the stand.
Who buys flowers in an airport?
You buy a bouquet before setting out for a taxi.
The taxi driver eyes your lack of luggage and the flowers in your hand with interest. You’re glad he doesn’t say anything on the drive to Christen’s place.
When he drives off, you’re left staring at the plain gate surrounding the very generic looking house. It’s only a couple steps away, but you can’t seem to make your feet move towards the door.
You’ve defended against the fastest strikers in the world. You’ve scored against world-class keepers. You’ve done all these great soccer things, yet you can’t find it in yourself to knock on Christen’s door.
A voice that suspiciously sounds a lot like Tobin’s tells you not to be such a wuss. You mentally flip off imaginary Tobin. Imaginary Tobin only nutmegs you in response.
In the end, you don’t even have to knock.
Your eyes widen when you see the door swing open. Christen must’ve been on her way out to the store or something, because she doesn’t seem to be expecting it when she catches sight of you just a ways from the door. You can tell when she realizes who it is exactly who’s standing right in front of her.
Christen stares at you, hollow-eyed as she leans heavily against her door for support. You’re instantly taken aback by how beautiful she looks. Her eyes are a little red from where, you assume, she’s been crying most of the night and day. Despite that, you still think she’s the prettiest woman you’ve ever seen.
“Hi.”
Christen blinks. “What… what are you doing here?”
You nearly sway at the rasp of her voice. It’s been so long since you’ve heard it in person. The speaker of your phone never did her voice any justice.
“I needed to see you.”
A gust of wind has Christen momentarily distracted. Finally taking in the state of the weather around you, she quickly invites you in, shutting the door to keep out the rain. You linger by the door, not willing to drip water all over Christen’s place. The forward disappears for a moment, returning with a giant towel that you gratefully take.
You take this opportunity to hand her the flowers.
She gives the half-drowned flowers a weird look but takes them all the same.
“The rain kinda… kinda killed them,” you sheepishly explain.
Christen still puts them in a water-filled vase, and you have to fight your laugh at how ridiculous it looks.
She hesitates in the kitchen, not returning to where you’re still standing by the door.
“Um, do you want some tea?”
“I love you.”
Your declaration takes her off guard. Christen freezes, eyes widening at your words.
“I love you and I don’t want to break up.”
You cautiously take a step towards her when Christen doesn’t move. Her eyes follow your movements with rapt attention. You swallow hard when Christen still doesn’t say anything.
“I don’t want the fact that we’re in different places in our career break us up. I don’t care about the glitz and the glam that comes with playing ball in the states or on the national team. I’d give it all up if it meant I couldn’t have you.”
You take it as a good sign when Christen lets you take her hand. If anything, her hand tightens around yours.
“Chris, you’re it for me. I don’t want to do any of this if I can’t do it by your side.”
When the first tear falls from Christen’s eyes, your hand automatically shoots out to wipe it away. Christen stiffens at first, but before you have a chance to apologize, she’s throwing herself at you, arms wrapping around your waist, head burying deep against the crook of your neck.
Your hands soothingly run up and down her back when you feel the tears soaking your collar.
“Chris--”
“I’m sorry. I don’t-- god I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m so sorry.”
You’re not sure how long the two of you stay like that, wrapped up in one another, whispering quiet reassurances of your love.
It isn’t until Christen’s tears have finally died down, quiet sniffles every here and there, that you break the bubble the two of you have found yourself in. “I think we have things we need to talk about.” Christen stiffens in your arms, but you’re quick to press a kiss against the top of her head. “But we don’t have to do that right now.”
When she pulls her head away from your neck, you give her a teary smile. “Hey beautiful.”
“Stop,” she chuckles wetly, wiping a sleeve against her face. “I’m pretty sure I just left snot all over your collarbone.”
You shrug. “Pretty sure you’ve done worse. Are we purposefully forgetting when you threw up on me after we won the college cup, or?”
That comment earns you a weak punch against your shoulder. When your chuckles have died down, Christen nervously chews on her bottom lip.
Knowing her tell, you remain quiet, letting Christen work up the courage to say whatever it is.  Eventually she quietly sighs out, guiltily eying you. “How do you not hate me?”
You frown. “Why would I hate you?”
“Are you really going to make me say it?”
Hearing the agitation slowly creep into her voice, you slowly lean in until you’re pressing a kiss against Christen’s lips. You can tell Christen’s confused by the change in direction of the conversation, but she sinks into the kiss all the same.
Despite every thought yelling at you to deepen the kiss, you pull away with a light peck when you feel Christen relax against you. “I love you, okay? I love you and I’ll keep loving you even if you make me cry and then get on a very long flight to see you.”
Hesitantly nodding, she drops her head down against your neck again.
“Love you too, even if your ‘forgive me’ flowers were definitely all dead.”
“Roses,” you correct, half remembering a sign you saw next to the stand. “‘I’m deeply in love with you’ roses.”
The snicker Christen lets out is the opposite reaction you expect.
Your face scrunches up. “Okay, now I feel like you’re making fun of me.”
“I love the effort but I am, just a little bit.”
“Chris--”
“Those are carnations.” Christen’s lips are curled up at the sides, amusement replacing the tears that previously filled her eyes. “Not roses.”
The embarrassment shoots through you hard. You’re not able to fight the blush. “Oh.”
Christen simply chuckles, connecting your lips once again.
Later, when you’ve convinced Christen to take a nap with you and are all snuggled up in her bed, you whisper your affirmation of your love for her again.
“I love you. Let’s never do that again,” you mutter, tightening your arms around the forward.
Christen simply hums, pressing a kiss against your collarbone. “Never again.”
---
When the party has come to an end, most people having already left, you once again voice your appreciation of the whole thing.
“Thanks for doing this, P. This was fun.”
Megan huffs, making a show of being fake annoyed. “And to think the two of you kept trying to convince me to cancel it.”
“Oh trust me, Chris and I really do appreciate this whole thing, but it truly was unnecessary.”
Megan rolls her eyes, not even sparing you a look. “I know you guys are very lowkey gals who only need the simplest things in life, but you have to let us spoil you every now and then.”
It’s only when your failed effort to hide your laughter sets off Christen’s own laugh that the forward looks up.
“Yeah, no, P. That’s not what I meant.”
---
Two days ago~
Tobin grabs ahold of your hand, stopping you before the two of you can make it through the doors. “Are you sure you want to do this right now?”
After getting the call from you last night, Tobin jumped on the first plane available to LA. You love your sister to death, but her willingness to drop everything only made you love her more.
You nod. “I’ve been only waiting most of my life for this, so yeah.”
Your sister rolls her eyes at your dramatics, but shoulders the door open all the same. “Pinoe’s gonna be so mad,” she tuts, more than happy to let you take the brunt of the spicy forward’s wrath.
“Hey, I told her she didn’t have to throw us a bachelorette party. She shut me down instantly.”
Kelley, who catches the last part of your conversation, lets out a bellowing laugh. “You didn’t even try that hard.”
Christen comes to a stop beside her, fixing the three of you with an incredulous look. “Wait, she’s still planning on throwing us a party?”
Your first action is to give your fiancée an appreciative up-and-down. Christen doesn’t miss the action, giving you a light shove when she catches your eyes lingering in certain places for too long.
Laughing, you step forward to press a kiss against her cheek. “Think of it as a wedding gift, babe,” you murmur, not missing the amusement in her eyes.
“Wedding gifts are for married people,” Kelley sings, not so subtly pushing you guys towards the right hall. Tobin had pulled the defender with her when she was leaving DC, and you’re glad that she did. There are no other people you’d like more to be your two witnesses. But you are well aware that she’s missing a Braves game to be here.
“Eloping only takes, like, ten minutes, right? I’ve got a ball game to watch.”
Both you and Christen shove Kelley hard enough that she doesn’t have a chance to cackle at her own joke.

I never wanted this, but maybe it's not such a bad thing part 3 (Preath x Reader)
It's been a long couple of weeks, but I finally finished part 3! This is not edited so mind any mistakes. I'm not sure if I'll do another part yet, let me know what you think. There's a bit of a time jump at the end. I hope you enjoy!
Warnings: Smut
Part one, Part two
Words: 6.1K
As Tobin went to lie down next to Christen, I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her down in the middle and peppering her cheek with kisses. Tobin giggled, pecking my lips, "This isn't our normal order."
"Gotta spice things up occasionally. Do you want to come surfing with me tomorrow Tobes? I have a spare board and wetsuit, we just have to stop by my house. Maybe the three of us could get brunch after?"
Christen nudged Tobin when she took a while to answer. I appreciated what she was doing, but tonight was a big step already. I didn't want her to feel pressured. "You know what, I would love that. You can't judge how well I do though, it's been a while since I've been."
"Can I come watch?"
"You wanna watch us with our wet suits down Chris? I know Tobin enjoyed it once upon a time."
Tobin went red, hiding her face against Christens shoulder. Christen laughed, patting Tobin's shoulder, "You know what, I don't even blame her. There's no denying you have great abs."
"It's for the ladies, two in particular. You might know them, dark haired, insanely beautiful. Ring a bell?"
Tobin finally looked at me again, smirk growing, "Oh you mean those marine buddies of yours we met the other day?"
"Exactly." I kissed them both, soft and slow, "You two are the most beautiful people I've ever met. And I know people just say that, I know there are subjectively more attractive people out there, but to me, there's no competition, no one compares to you guys."
Tobin kissed me, filled with the same passion as the first time, "You're not so bad yourself."
Christens eyebrows furrowed,  "Agreed. What's gotten into you? I'm not complaining, I've just never seen you so sappy."
"I'm just happy. I've been in a lot of relationships in my time, some great, some not, but I've never felt this way before. We're soulmates, I know it's kinda the whole concept behind it, I just don't believe that's the only thing that influences this. You know I was terrified coming into this, that I would only feel the soulmate connection, nothing more. So yeah, I'm happy that's not the case, because you two are amazing. Sorry for being sappy, I'm just trying to be more honest. It's not always easy for me, I want us to last though so I'm trying."
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with you being sappy Y/n/n. It's just different so I got a bit worried maybe something was wrong. We know it's hard for you to talk about feelings, but we're always here for you. Even if it's not always good feelings, you can always come to us, even if it's just one of us. We will never judge you or make you feel like you can't talk about it."
I fought back the tears, in all my relationships no one had ever cared about me as much as they did, I had never felt like I could open up as I did with them. I mean what I had already told them more than I had with anyone, Ali and Ash included, "Thank you. It works both way, anything you guys need, I'm here for you."
The movie had just finished, I knew it was late, but looking at my phone confirmed it. I kissed them both before reluctantly sitting up on the side of the bed. "It's getting late, I should head back to my room."
A hand on my arm stopped me, turning around I found Tobin looking up at me with a small, unsure smile, "You could stay?"
"Are you sure? You don't have to push yourself Tobin. We've already made a lot of progress today. I don't want you to move too quickly and be uncomfortable."
"I know it's quick, but honestly tonight has been amazing and I don't want you to go. We would love if you stayed if you maybe wanted to."
"I um, I don't want to wake you guys up in the middle of the night with my nig-"
Christen came back from the bathroom, kissing me before I could finish, "We don't care about that Y/n, if you have a nightmare then we'll be here to help you through it. This is part of being with you and we're okay with that."
"Okay, let me go brush my teeth and get changed. I'll be back in a minute."
It took me a long time to fall asleep, the worry of having a nightmare and waking them up running through my mind. Despite what they said, I didn't want want them to deal with it on the first night we stayed together. It was still embarrassing that after a year, I still had nightmares.
To my complete surprise, I didn't have a nightmare. I had had one every night since camp started which was typical when staying in an unfamiliar place, but with them I didn't. It wasn't the longest sleep, but I had slept the best I had in a long time. Christen and Tobin were still asleep when I woke up so I kissed their cheeks and slipped out of bed to get coffee from down the street. Apparently everyone wanted coffee this morning so it had taken longer then anticipated. When I got back Tobin was the only one awake, she looked sad until she actually looked up at me. I guess it had looked like I had just left them. I gave her a long, slow kiss before handing her the coffee.
"Good morning beautiful. I'm sorry I should have messaged you, the line was longer than I anticipated."
"Good morning baby, it's okay, I'm just glad you came back."
"There's no where else I'd rather be. We're going surfing remember."
Tobin pulled me closer so I was straddling her waist, "I admit I was scared you had just left us."
"Never. I promise if I was ever going and not coming back I will let you know. Do you want me to let you know even if I'm just popping out for coffee?"
She avoided my eyes, cheeks turning red, "Maybe, just for a little while at least. I'm sorry, I ju-"
I cupped Tobin's cheek, kissing her forehead, nose, cheeks and lips, "Don't apologise Tobin, if it makes you more comfortable then I'm 100% okay with it. All it takes is 2 seconds to send a text."
Christen rolled over, sleepy smirk in place, "What's going on here?"
I brushed a piece of hair out of Tobin's face, before leaning down and pecking Christens lips, "Just some morning reassurance. I got you coffee."
---
Sloane ran up to me, cuddling into me as I picked her up. It had been a while since we had proper cuddles. At home we always end the night with cuddles before she went to bed. It was a routine I've missed. Ashlyn and Ali hugged me as well, before Ashlyn spoke up, "Hey Y/n/n, do you wanna get lunch with us today? It's been a while since we hung out. We miss you."
Guilt hit me instantly. I hadn't really seen them much recently with all my time going to Tobin and Christen. I also felt bad because they didn't know about us yet. Normally, I told Ash everything, but I had been so caught up in the newness of my relationship, I hadn't told them. Tobin, Christen and I had lunch plans, I couldn't say no to Ash though, I guess I had some making up to do, "I would love to."
"Awesome, meet you here in an hour."
I went straight to Christen and Tobin's room, nerves starting to rise as I waited for them to answer. I didn't know how they would react to me cancelling last minute. Christen answered with a wide smile,  "We really need to get you a key."
"Uh yeah."
Tobin eyed me suspiciously, "What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry."
"What for? What happened?"
"Um I need to cancel lunch. I'm sorry. Of course I wanted to have lunch with you, but then Ash asked me to have lunch with them because they miss me and I haven't actually spent any time with them lately and I actually really miss them and I feel like a bad sister and a bad girlfri-"
The rambling died as Christens lips connected with mine, "Y/n, take a breath. It's okay, we understand. Ash is your sister, you need to spend time with her. We can hang out after."
"Are you sure?"
Tobin was the one this time to take my hand and kiss me, "Yes, go have fun with your family. We expect to see you tonight though."
I pulled them down on the bed with me, both of them cuddling into my sides, "Wouldn't miss it for the world. I've got just under an hour until I meet them so we have some cuddle time."
Tobin cupped my cheek, lips gliding across mine, filled with passion and want. Her tongue ran across my bottom lip, slipping in as my lips parted. We fought for dominance with me quickly winning. Tobin pulled me on top of her, hand slipping under my shirt, resting on my lower back. After a few minutes of making out, I remembered Christen was there and slowly pulled away, breathing heavy.
"Sorry Chris."
Christen just smiled, guiding me over to her instead, "Don't apologise, I don't mind a good show every now and then. Can I get in on the action though?"
I hovered just above her, lips brushing hers, "I suppose that could be acceptable."
I lost track of how long we were making out, but when hands started wandering, I reluctantly pulled away, "We need to stop because I need to leave soon and if we keep going I don't think I'll be able to stop."
Christen groaned as I settled between them again, "I hate that you're right."
Even though I was missing out on time with Christen and Tobin, I was glad that I agreed to lunch. It hadn't hit me how much I missed them until I was sitting with them, colouring a picture with Sloane as I talked with Ali and Ashlyn. We made it maybe half an hour before Ashlyn asked the question I was fully expecting, "So what's going on with you lately? You've been absent lately, is everything okay?"
"Uh yeah, honestly everything is amazing. I need to tell you something, I didn't mean to hide it from you, I just got distracted I guess. Christen, Tobin and I are together."
Ali looked confused, "Wait, as in girlfriends? I thought you weren't interested in the whole soulmate thing?"
"I'm not, but we talked that day in the elevator about getting to know each other before I shut it down completely. The more I got to know them, the more I fell for them. I've never felt this way before. I haven't had a nightmare in almost two weeks since I've been staying with them. I get so giddy when I'm around them, like I never want to leave."
"That's amazing Y/n. We're so happy for you."
"You're not mad I didn't tell you?"
Ash hugged me tightly, kissing my cheek, "Of course not, it's new, exciting, you got sucked in. I don't know if you remember, but I was the same way with Ali. I'm really glad you're happy Y/n, you deserve it. Even if it is with the soul mates you never wanted."
"Yeah well, they're not so bad after all. Tobin still has some worries that I'll change my mind, but she's trying and I'm doing my best to reassure her. I hate it that she doubts me, but she's worth it. Christen is pretty much what you see is what you get, but there's a side of Tobin that no one else sees. The soft, loving, shy, somewhat insecure side. I love that side of her and I want to be privy to it for as long as she'll let me."
We spent a few hours hanging out, eating and playing at the park before the kids started getting grumpy so we made our way back to the hotel. I went back to Christens and Tobin's room where we spent the rest of the night watching movies and cuddling.
---
Camp had finally come to an end, meaning by the end of the day, all three of us would be in a different part of the country until the next camp. It was only just over a month, but I already knew I was going to miss them. I hugged them tightly, trying to keep my tears away. It wasn't working though, "I'm going to miss you."
Christen sniffed, hiding her face further against my chest, "I wish we could stay together."
I held her tightly, hands running along her back as she cried. My own tears slowly running down my cheeks. Over the last few weeks, I had gotten used to being around them, I loved being with them. The last thing I wanted was to be away from them. I know there was facetime and it was only going to be a month, but it wasn't the same as falling asleep next to them, cuddling with them, being around them. There was also a slight fear of something changing. We had only been together for a few weeks, what if the distance so early on changed something, affected our relationship. I tried my best to push that thought away, instead focusing on making the most of the time with my girls. I reached out pulling Tobin back into the hug, holding her just as tight as Christen. We cuddled on the bed with me in the middle, both of them holding me tightly.
Tobin had been quiet all morning, and I was starting to get worried. Christen had popped out so it gave me the chance to talk to her. I had a feeling I knew what was wrong. Despite the progress we had made, I knew she still worried that I would change my mind. I hated that she still worried, but I would keep doing everything I could to make her worries go away, even if it took a while.
"Hey, what's going on Toby? You've been quieter than normal today."
"My thoughts are going crazy right now."
I sat down on the ground in front of her, pulling her so she was sitting in my lap, "You have no idea how much I'm going to miss you Tobin. Just the idea of being away from you hurts. You can expect messages and facetimes every day, you'll be sick of me by the end of it. There'll be no going back though, you're stuck with me now."
"It's a good thing I don't mind then isn't it?"
"Definitely. You can call me anytime, I can't promise to always answer straight away, but I'll do my very best."
"Ditto. Thank you Y/n."
"What for?"
"For being so understanding. Most people would have ran for the hills if their girlfriend doubted them as much as I do you, but you've stuck by me."
"Hey, while I hate that you still doubt me sometimes, I understand why you feel the way you do. I'm serious about us so I'm willing to provide as much reassurance as needed for as long as needed. A bit of distance isn't going to change that."
---
Today had been crazy. Between practice, media and team bonding, I was only able to reply to maybe one or two texts from Christen and Tobin. I had made sure to tell them I was busy, but it didn't make me feel any better. As soon as I got home and showered, I made sure they were awake before facetiming. It was 2am and I was exhausted, but talking to them made it worth it. Tobin was the only one awake, her tired self answering almost immediately.
You look tired Toby.
I am.
You should get some sleep.
I wanted to talk to you first, I missed you today.
I missed you too baby. I'm sorry I couldn't reply much today, it was hectic.
It's okay, in our job it happens. Thank you for calling, even though you look like you're about to pass out. I know it's late, but have you been sleeping okay?
Our facetimes are my favourite part of the day, I wouldn't ever miss it if I could help it. Sometimes, the nightmares are back, not as frequent, but they're there and I miss cuddling with you two.
Aww baby, I'm sorry. Two weeks and we'll be back together. We can talk to coach about us sharing a room this time if you might want to? I mean you stay with us anyway, might as well not take up another room.
I would love that
We talked for a bit longer before the yawns wouldn't stop and we decided it was best to get some sleep.
Can you stay on the phone with me?
Of course. Goodnight Tobin, I love you
My eyes widened at the admission that slipped out. Yes it was true, I had fallen in love with them both, but it wasn't supposed to come out yet. I had intended to wait longer before telling them because it felt too soon to have those feelings. I fought the urge to hang up and hide as a grin slowly appeared on Tobin's face.
I love you Y/n. Do you uh feel this way about Chris as well?
I do, I'm in love with you both. It wasn't supposed to come out this early though. Do you think I should tell her?
Definitely, I won't be able to stop myself from saying it and I'm almost certain she'll feel the same way about you.
Okay, get some sleep and hopefully we can squeeze in a call with Chris in the morning
I was woken up by talking on the other end of the phone. It wasn't just Tobin. I peeked at the phone, seeing Christen had joined. It was 10:30am meaning it was only 7:30am for them.
You're awake early
Good morning sleepy head, I woke up when Chris joined
Good morning baby, you looked like you slept well
I think knowing Tobin was there made it easier.
I'm sorry I missed the call last night
It's okay Chris. I need to tell you something
What is it?
I accidently let it slip out to Tobin last night, but you should know that I love you
A wide grin appeared instantly as she replied with no hesitation, I love you Y/n
---
Ashlyn, Ali and the kids had already left for the next camp having decided to spend an extra couple of days. A mini holiday of sorts. They had asked if I wanted to come, but I had some last minute work to finish. It had only been just over a month, but I was at the point where I really missed my girls. I had never expected to miss them as much as I did, but it was hitting me hard and I was just down. I didn't want to bring them down with my mood. I hadn't heard from Christen and Tobin today, besides a good morning text so I was drowning my emotions in work.
The doorbell rang loudly throughout the house. I was tempted to ignore it, but decided against it and threw the door open, freezing when I saw the two girls I had been missing like crazy. When I snapped out of it, my arms wrapping around them both tightly. I sunk into their touch, pulling them closer when one of them tried to pull away. I didn't want to let them go yet.
"I missed you so much. What are you doing here?"
"We had a few days off before camp and really just wanted to see you. I know a few days would have made much of a difference, but well we missed you Y/n."
I kissed them both soft and slow, savoring the feeling of their lips, "I'm glad you're here."
We cuddled on my bed for a while before Christen volunteered to get dinner while I finished up some work with Tobin cuddled into my side. It didn't take long to finish the work that needed doing tonight. Once I put my laptop down, I pulled Tobin onto my lap, kissing her softly, "I missed you two so much Toby. I'm really glad we're back together."
Tobin rest her head against my shoulder, "Us too Y/n. Thank you for all the random facetimes and reassurances. I know it meant a lot of late nights for you."
"Seeing you and Chris is worth endless late nights."
"I love you Y/n."
"I love you too Toby."
Kisses were placed along my neck, a quiet moan escaped as I angled my head to give her more room. Tobin straddled my waist, pushing me back before leaving slightly harder kisses across my jaw and down my throat until she reached my collar bone. I gripped her hips, moaning a little louder this time as she started sucking and scraping my skin with her teeth. "Fuck T-Toby."
I was caught up in the pleasure that I didn't notice that Christen had come back until a second pair of lips attached themselves to my neck. Before I could open my eyes lips attached to mine. I instantly knew it was Christen, "Welcome back Chris."
"How'd you know it was me?"
"You two kiss differently, both just as amazing, but different."
Christen ran her fingers from one collar bone to the other, "I see you two had fun while I was gone."
"Toby how many marks did you leave?"
"Just a few."
"Tobin! Everyone's going to see them."
"I didn't hear you complaining."
I flipped her over, "Paybacks a bitch."
"Fuck Y/n," Tobin moaned as I nipped and sucked at her skin, before she pushed my head down closer to her breasts.
"Are you sure?" I asked looking at both Christen and Tobin.
Tobin nodded quickly while Christen reached over, slipping Tobin's shirt off with an innocent smile. I hooked my hand around the back of her neck, accidently gripping her hair slightly and connected our lips in a lingering kiss. Christen moaned quietly against my lips, making me smirk, "Don't think you're safe Chris. I know this side was you."
Christen just shrugged as I went back to taking in the half naked Tobin currently pinned under me, "You are stunning Tobin."
I lent down, kissing along her bra line leaving dark marks as I went. Tobin was squirming, trying to push my head further down. Before she could, I pulled away, moving over to Christen instead. Tobin whined, but watched closely as I started on Christens neck, leaving a few dark marks before moving down to the top of her t-shirt, waiting for her permission before slipping her shirt over her head, "How did I end up with two absolutely stunning women."
As I attacked Christens chest, I felt Tobin's hands start to wander, drawing random patterns under my shirt, along my back and stomach getting dangerously close to the waist band of my shorts. I finally pulled away when Tobin tugged at my top. She pulled it off, both of them staring at my abs. Christen reached up, running her fingers down my stomach stopping at my waistband and playing with the draw strings, making me shiver at the feeling. I laced my fingers with hers, kissing the back of her hand.
"Are you sure you guys want to do this? We don't have to go past this." I didn't want them to think that they had to do this if they thought it was too early. Sex wasn't that important to me, I just wanted to be with them. I was also worried that maybe they were only doing this with me out of obligation and that they didn't actually want me as part of it. I had also never done it with 2 people before, I didn't know if I would be any good. It was a big step in our relationship and honestly, I was nervous.
Christen squeezed my hand, as Tobin pecked my lips, "Baby, you have no idea how much we talked about you during our less than innocent facetime calls when you were busy."
"You have no idea how much we want you. We can wait if you want to, if you're not sure about this."
"Really? Y-you t-talked about me?"
"More than we would admit. We love you Y/n, we are so insanely attracted to you it's not even funny."
"I-I-I've never been with t-two p-people before."
"It's not much different to one, just do what you do, but double it. You'll figure out what we each like pretty easily and we're here with you every step of the way. There's no rush if you're not ready yet Y/n."
I looked at them for a second. I was ridiculously attracted to them. There was no doubt that I wanted them. I smirked, pulling Christen up and tangling my fingers in her hair, tugging lightly as I connected our lips, biting her bottom lip gently as I pulled away, "I think I already know what you like."
Christen moaned, nails digging into my back to pull me against her, "Y-y-you're not w-wrong."
Tobin smirked, running her fingers across Christens back, "It drives her crazy."
My lips attached to Christen neck as I pushed her back, working my way down her chest and reaching round to unclip her bra. My fingers ran dipped between her breasts, trailing beneath them. Her breath hitched, fingers digging into my thighs, "P-please."
I glanced at Tobin, feeling bad about giving all the attention to Christen. Tobin just nodded, moving to take one of Christens nipples into her mouth as I followed suit with the other. Christen gasped hands tangling in both of our hair. It didn't take long for her to turn into a moaning mess, bucking her hips and trying to push my head down. I pulled away, waiting for her to nod before slipping her pants and underwear off. I took her in for a second, admiring her long tan legs, toned stomach, small but perfect breasts and beautiful eyes filled with want.
Before moving any further with Christen, I connected my lips with Tobin. I didn't know what I was doing with two of them, but I wanted them to both feel wanted. I took my time with Tobin, with the help of Christen, stripping her down and working her up. I couldn't get enough of their moans, their touches, their pleads for more. It was driving me crazy, but I wanted to focus on them first. I figured the best way to ensure pleasure for them both was to have us all participating. I guided Christen so she was hovering over Tobin's face.
Christen moaned loudly at the same time I licked a line through Tobin's folds drawing a muffled moan which drew another needy moan from Christen. As Tobin worked Christen closer to the edge, I focused back on exploring Tobin. My tongue circled her clit, her hips bucking for more. Two fingers slipped easily into her, a loud, muffled moan slipped from Tobin. I pumped my fingers slowly, curling every few thrusts as I pulled away, watching as Tobin wrapped her arms around Christen's thighs, eating her out faster and harder, muffled moans falling uncontrollably. Christen head was thrown back, loud, needy moans slipping out as she reached behind her, gripping the head board for support.
As much as I wanted to get them to come at the same time, I wanted to take my time getting to know what Tobin liked, what drove her crazy. It didn't take long for Christen to tense, moans louder than before, legs shaking as she shook. Once her high passed, she fell back against the headboard, breathing heavy. My fingers never stopped, maintaining the same slow pace that slowly turned Tobin into a moaning, pleading mess. I lent forward, kissing Tobin, moaning at the taste of Christen left behind. Christen moved behind Tobin so her head was resting against her stomach, hands moving to play with Tobin's breasts. Her back arched, hips bucking. "B-baby p-p-please. I-I need-"
Tobin cut herself off with a moan as my fingers curled. I kissed Christen before moving back down, fingers thrusting harder and faster as my tongue flicked her clit. My lips wrapped around her clit, sucking hard. She tightened around my fingers, spasming and tensing as she fell over the edge. I helped her through before cleaning her up and pulling away. Christen took my hand cleaning my fingers as I settled beside them.
"H-holy fuck y-you're amazing baby," Tobin managed between ragged breaths. I laughed, kissing her cheek and pulling her closer.
"I aim to please."
After catching her breath, Tobin turned over kissing between Christens breasts before turning to me, "You've got way too many clothes on and we're so not done yet."
---
Things were getting hard. Not with Christen and Tobin, we were still going strong almost two years into our relationship. Things weren't always easy. Between navigating a three person relationship, living in three different cities and them spending some time playing overseas, we had our struggles, but we were stronger for it. The problem was, I was really starting to struggle with the distance. We saw each other as often as we could, facetimed pretty much everyday even when they were overseas. It sucked, but it was manageable until recently that is. All I wanted was to be with them, but it didn't seem to be possible. I was almost constantly down, irritable, distracted if I wasn't with or talking to them. I cried after hanging up with them and crying wasn't something I normally did.
This was something I had tried my best not to let them see. There was nothing that could be done and the intensity of these feelings would likely fade in a few weeks, so I didn't see the point in worrying them. Ashlyn and Ali had picked up on my mood change, they hadn't brought it up yet, but they had been trying to take my mind off it without pushing too much. They knew I would bring it up if I wanted to.
"Hey, you okay?" Ali asked sitting on the deck chair next to me. I had just finished talking to Christen and Tobin
"I'm not, but I will be."
"I'm here if you want to talk about it Y/n."
I sighed, "I just miss them, more than I know how to cope with right now."
"I get that. Have you talked to them about it? Maybe they can help make things a little easier to cope with?"
"There's nothing we can do about it, I don't want to worry them. I'm sure it'll pass, if not I'll figure it out. Thank you Ali."
The next day, I was sitting down on the beach after surfing, knees pulled up to my chest as I watched the waves. It was the spot where things were most peaceful, where my mind wasn't quite so loud. I was completely zoned out when a hand landed on each knee. I recoganised the ring on one of the hands. It was Christen. I didn't look though, they weren't supposed to be there so I had convinced myself that I was imagining things. When nails ran down my back, I snapped out of it and actually looked beside me. They were actually there. Sitting beside me, looking rather concerned. I lent against Tobin's side as Christens arm wrapped around me. I couldn't bring myself to say anything or even really be excited that they were there. I was too stuck in my head.
Tobin kissed my forehead, "What's wrong my love?"
"You don't have to tell us right now, but you've been off the last little while and we're worried."
At that I couldn't stop the tears from falling as I cried against Tobin's shoulder. They had seen me cry a few times, but it was normally short and quiet. This time though, I let everything out, not that I could stop it anyway.
"I'm struggling."
"Can you tell us what with?"
"You guys not being here. The distance. I miss you so much it hurts. I just want you guys here and I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that you're not."
Christen laced her fingers with mine, kissing my temple, "We're not doing much better. We actually wanted to talk to you about that though."
"About what?"
Tobin was the one to speak this time, hand still running across my back, "Moving in together. I know there's quite a lot of logistics around that, but when we were overseas, living together and seeing each other everyday, we realised how much we actually wanted to be close together, live together permanently. It was great, but there was one major thing missing."
"W-what?"
"You Y/n. Every day we would wake up and go to bed, wishing more than anything that you were with us. I know there's a lot we would need to figure out, like where, when, that sort of thing, but will you move in with us?"
I pulled them both into a hug so quickly that we fell backwards. Maybe it wouldn't be the easiest thing to figure out, but all I wanted was to be with them, "Yes, yes I would love that. I don't even care where, I just want to be with you guys."
I held them for a minute before finally realising that they weren't supposed to be here, "Why are you guys here? Don't you have training?"
"You haven't been yourself lately, as much as you tried to hide it, we noticed. You weren't smiling, laughing or joking as much, you looked tired all the. We got worried, Ali and Ash said something was up but you weren't talking to them. There was only one day of training before we had a few days off so our coached let us go. It's only for a few days, but we wanted to come see you, see if we could finally get you to talk to us."
"Thank you. I really needed to see you both. I love you."
Tobin kissed me, filled with passion and want as always, I sunk into it, holding her close. The first kiss once I saw them again was always the best. The sense of peace and calmness that washed over me when I kissed them was a feeling I never wanted to go away, "I love you Y/n. I know you didn't want to worry us, that was the one thing Ali could tell us, but please just talk to us next time. You not talking to us, worries us more."
I left a lingering kiss against Christens lips and resting my forehead against hers, "I'm sorry, I didn't want to worry you. I promise to talk to you in the future. Thank you for coming."
"Always."
"I vote LA." Tobin spoke up making me pull away from Christen confused as to what she was talking about. "I vote we move to LA. Warm weather, good surf and I know Angel FC might be interested in signing me."
Christen looked at Tobin, smile slowly making it's way onto her face. I guess they hadn't talked about it, "R-really? You'd want to move to LA?"
"I know how much you love Angel FC and LA, I wouldn't ask you to leave that. Besides we know Y/n is obsessed with surfing."
"I wouldn't be opposed to that, I can work from anywhere. Only thing is Ash, Ali and the kids, I don't want to miss seeing them grow up so it would mean frequent trips to see them. If you can deal with that then I'm all for LA."
"Of course we can, they're your family. We'll figure it out in time."
"Sooner rather than later please."
They both held me tightly as I watched the water once again. I felt lighter, like a weight had been lifted. Not just because of the idea of moving in with them, but because they knew I needed them and they didn't hesitate to fly out for me. At one point they were the people I didn't want, but now I couldn't imagine my life without them. Maybe things weren't always going to be easy, there will be up's and downs, change and sacrifices. With them though, it would all be worth it.

Let you down (USWNT x Young!Reader)
This one was inspired by a song by a rap artist by the name of NF. Obviously I don’t own any part of the song in anyway shape or form.
Tumblr media
This one deals with Anxiety and Sadness and just overall not great emotions but it does have a happy ending. Also has squint and you’ll miss it Mal x reader. Mal is also younger to help fit the plot. Hope you enjoy. All mistakes are mine, Not edited.
“Feels like we're on the edge right now
I wish that I could say I'm proud
I'm sorry that I let you down
I let you down….”
“Please don't come after me
I just wanna be alone right now, I don't really wanna think at all
Go ahead, just drink it off
Both know you're gonna call tomorrow like nothing's wrong
Ain't that what you always do?
I feel like every time I talk to you
You're in an awful mood
What else can I offer you?
There's nothing left right now, I gave it all to you…”
Suddenly my earbud was ripped out of my ear cutting off the song i was listening to. “Hey! What the hell Mallory? I was listening to that!” I said angrily as I grabbed my earbud back from her and turned to walk away.
“Okay, woah, chill out dude I was just gonna ask you if you wanted to join the girls and I for lunch after practice…” She said pointing at the girl’s behind her who were watching us curiously. I sighed quietly, pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration, mostly at myself realizing I overreacted.
“No thank you. I’m sorry I snapped at you. Shouldn’t have.” I said softly before shoving my earbud back in my ear, walking away to the other side of the field, picking up a ball on the way and absentmindedly juggling it.
“What’s her deal?” Rose asked, face scrunched in confusion.
“No idea, all i did was take the earbud out of her ear to ask if she wanted to go to lunch with us and she snapped at me. She said no, which is fine but somethings wrong, I can tell.” Mal said
“that’s not like her at all, should I try and talk to her?” Christen asked popping up out of nowhere.
“You might be the right person to do that, not totally certain she seems pretty upset about something.” Mal said shrugging slightly
“I’ll give it my best shot.”
For the second time in 5 minutes my earbud was taken out of my ear cutting off the depressing music blasting out of it.
“Okay seriously, Mal if you don’t get away from me in the next 10 seconds I swear…” I trailed off as I turned to face who I thought was Mal but turned out to be Christen. “Oh s-sorry Chris I thought you were Mal. What’s up?”
“That’s okay, although your reaction when you thought I was her is a little concerning… Everything okay? Did she do something to upset you?”
“No, no, i’m sorry. She didn’t do anything, not really anyways, I’m just irritable right now.”
“What’s going on?”
“I’m just really lost in my head I guess.” I shrugged absentmindedly as I sat on the bench and changed into my slides.
“Lost in your head about what, love?” Chris asked as she moved to sit next to me, resting her hand on my knee.
“It’s nothing, it’s stupid Pressy don’t worry about it.” I said, shooting up and jogging away.
“Something is definitely up with that kid. Time to gather the vets and do some gentle prodding.”
I quietly made my way onto the bus and went all the way to that back, curling up into a seat turning to face the window so my teammates knew to leave me alone. My phone dinged and I already knew I wasn’t going to like what I read.
“You think you’re some big shot now that you made it to the national team? You know it’ll only be a matter of time before you crash and burn. Come home before you embarrass me on national television.”
It was a text from my father. He’d never been the most supportive of my dreams and my current career. These last few days however he’s been more… aggressive with his words. I don’t know why or what I did but he’s been telling me I’ll only be an embarrassment to him and my step mother. That he doesn’t need his friends asking questions when I inevitably fail. His words not mine. I haven’t told the girls anything about what he’s saying because i don’t want them to do something rash, like get on a plane and fly over and beat his ass which is something they’re not above doing. I let out a quiet sigh shoving my phone in my bag before closing my eyes and attempting to sleep.
Team Veteran’s POVs//
“Okay what’s with the kid?” Alex asked staring at our youngest teammate in concern
“She’s 18, you know?” Mal said cutting into our conversation. Megan shot her a sharp look and she went back to watching ATLA (pls tell me y'all know what that acronym stands for…) eating her mandatory after practice goldfish and drinking a juice box Tobin gave her.
“Doesn’t matter she’s still the youngest on this team so by default she’s still a kid to us.”
“That’s lame.”
“Mallory…”
“What?”
“First of all, you just turned 19 like 2 seconds ago so you’re also still a kid and secondly don’t eavesdrop on other people’s conversations, it’s rude.”
“I wasn’t eavesdropping, you guys are all sitting together in front of me, it’s kind of hard not to hear what you’re saying.”
“Just put your earbuds in and pay attention to your show please.”
“Chris come on, she’s my best friend I- ”
“Mallory Diane do as I say please.”
“Okay jeeze, no need to use my government name.” She said rolling her eyes at me. I pinched the bridge of my nose and breathed in deeply to stop myself from correcting her.
“As you were saying?”
“Well she’s just acting odd, when was the last time she was like this?”
“I can’t even remember it’s been a long time.”
“What should we do?” Kelley asked reaching over into Mal’s bag of goldfish, taking a healthy handful, much to her dismay.
“Hey!” Mal slapped her hand hard enough for it to echo throughout the bus, causing everyone to look over at us in surprise, Kelley jerked her hand away, holding it like she’d been shot.
“Mallory Pugh! We do not hit people. Say you’re sorry right now.”
“Sorry Kel. I should’ve just used my words. Please don’t take my goldfish.” She said quietly.
“Thanks squirt, I accept your apology. I’m sorry too, I should’ve asked first.”
“lt’s okay, I accept your apology.”
“Good job using your words babe.” I said ruffling her hair slightly.
Once we were sure Mal was settled again we went back to our previous discussion.
“I say we just let her come to us when she’s ready, you know how she is when people push too hard.”
“I agree.”
“Usually I would agree but they way she snapped at Mal earlier tells me she’s about half a step away from either actually hitting someone or putting a hole in the wall.”
“That’s a little dramatic don’t you think?”
“When has she ever snapped at Mal, Ali?”
“Good point.”
“We still haven’t answered the question of what we’re going to do though.”
“I say we just be straight forward and honest, let her know we’re worried and that we’d like to talk to her and see if she’ll open up and tell us what’s going on.”
“Won’t that send her running for the hills?”
“Not if we don’t give her the opportunity to run.” Alex said getting a mischievous look in her eye.
“Oh no, I know that look, what do you have up your sleeve Al?”
“You’ll see” She said leaning over and whispering whatever it was she was thinking to Becky, who hummed in agreement.
After another hour we finally made it back to the hotel, got roommate assignments and got settled for the night. All the veterans on the team hung back after everyone else had left to go to bed, leaving just Alex, Tobin, Christen, Ali, Julie, Becky, Crystal, Kelley, And Alyssa in the Lobby.
“Okay Cap what’s the plan?” Tobin asked.
“The plan is we’re all going to Alex and Kelley’s room, to wait for the kid. We gave Mal a note to leave on her bed and told her to go hang out in someone else’s room so when she’s not there, she’ll have to go looking for her, and when she passes by the room we’ll grab her and lock her in with us until we get some answers about what’s going on.” Becky said, as we all huddled together and talked in hushed tones.
“So we’re kidnapping her?”
“Not kidnapping… more like, trapping out of love and concern.”
“Right… it still sounds a lot like kidnapping to me.”
“Just follow our lead.”
“Whatever you say, cap.”
We all went up to the room and waited anxiously to see if our plan would work. It only took about 10 minutes to receive our answer. A quiet knock on the door startled almost everyone in the room.
“I got it” Alex said getting up and padding over to the door.
“Hey little Lamb what’s up?” We heard her say.
“Uh… have you seen Mal anywhere?”
“No, I haven’t why?”
“It’s just we’re rooming together and she always waits for me to come up before she goes anywhere.”
“Hmm, I don’t know kid, sorry.”
“Oh okay, that’s okay, i’ll get out of your hair sorry to bother you.”
“You didn’t bother me it’s no problem.”
“Goodni-” She began to say but it was cut off when Alex quite literally grabbed her and yanked her inside, the force of which sent her stumbling forward into the room falling slightly. Alex quickly closed the door and locked it while she wasn’t looking.
“Alex, what the hell is wrong with you?”
“Hey, language.”
It was then that the young striker turned to look at who said that and saw all of us sitting on the beds.
“What the…? What is this?”
“An intervention… of sorts.” Julie said quietly.
“Intervention? For what?” She said her eyes going as wide as saucers
“For why you’re acting so weird lately.” Tobin said standing up, and crossing her arms, trying to intimidate our young teammate just slightly.
“I am not acting weird.” She said defensively.
“Yes you are.”
“No I’m not!”
“Really? Then why did you snap at Mal and technically christen today?”
“I was just irritated.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, why do you guys care so much?”
“Because we’re supposed to look after you.” Christen said, raising an eyebrow when all she got in return was an eye roll. After a beat of silence she sighed loudly and sat down on the floor, hanging her head in defeat.
“Are you…okay?” Kelley asked as we all looked around at each other, unsure of what to say or do.
“I don’t know.” She said lifting up her head and rubbing her face tiredly. She took her phone out of her pocket, and after a moment threw it on the bed, and said “Read it”
We each took turns quietly reading the text conversation between her and her father, and after each person read it there was a noticeable shift in the room. Everyone was angry for her.
“Who talks to a child like that? Much less their own child?” Megan said beginning to pace around the room, angrily.
“I’ll kill him.”
“I’ll break his kneecaps.”
“You don’t need his approval you know that, right?”
“I just feel like I’ve let him down.” She said quietly, looking anywhere but at us.
“That’s not true. I won’t lie and say that he’s going to change his mind one day and say that what you’re doing is good enough for him but you don’t need validation from him, or anyone for that matter. All that matters is how you feel about yourself and the things that you do.” Ali said sitting down next to her and wrapping her arm around her, letting her lay her head on her shoulder.
“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do now. I mean I know that what he said wasn’t cool, but i do still rely on him for stuff and at the end of the day I still have to go home at the end of camp.” she sighed.
“What could you possibly rely on him for?” Kelley scoffed
“Oh I don’t know, maybe, food, a roof over my head, things like that.” She said sarcastically.
“You don’t need him for that, you have us.”
“Oh right, like one of you is gonna want ME as a roommate.”
We all looked around at each other and a few of us shrugged.
“Why not? If you want, you can be me and kelley’s roomie.” Alex said smiling softly at the young striker who looked back at her with lots of skepticism.
“Or you could ask Mal if she’s looking to room with anyone.” Tobin said wiggling her eyebrows.
“You guys would really do that for me?” She asked, voice breaking just slightly.
“Of course we would kid.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s what family does.” Christen said, walking over to our youngest teammate and giving her a hand up.
“Group hug!” Tobin said as we all smushed together. The hug was brief however as we were interrupted by rapid knocking on the door.
“Okay, okay hold your horse’s I’m coming” Crystal said quickly yanking the door open, startling whoever was on the other side.
“Is Y/N here?” We heard Mal ask.
“Yeah, she is, you wanna come in?” Crystal stepped to the side to let the youngins into the room, mainly Mal, Rose, Sonnett, Trinity, Tierna, Sophia, Ashley Sanchez and Sam Mewis.
“We were wondering if-”
“Wait what’s wrong?” Sam asked, taking in Y/N’s tired and still slightly sad expression.
“Nothing Sammy, they just finished cheering me up actually.”
“Cheering you up about what? Are you okay?” Mal asked, stepping forward and wrapping her in a tight hug.
“Yeah I’m okay. My dad’s just being a little tough on me right now, that’s all.”
Ali scoffed, “I think he’s being a little more than tough on you, love. He’s being a jackass, and you don’t deserve it.”
“Wait, what did we miss? Come on, we never get to know what’s going on!” Trinity whined.
Y/N decided to show the new comers to the room, what they had missed and much like before everyone was visibly and vocally angry on behalf of our teammate all beginning to talk over one another, only stopping when Y/N loudly called out to them.
“Guys, guys, it’s okay. I don’t need you all conspiring to commit murder on my behalf, okay? It’s not necessary. I’ve already decided to take Alex and Kelley up on their offer to be their roommate.”
“Really? That’s great! We’ll get all the details sorted out before the end of camp.” Alex said wrapping her arms around her in a bear hug.
“Fine, is there anything else we can do for you then? Anything.” Mal asked.
“Movie night?”
“Anything for you.”
After everyone was changed and comfortable, everyone piled on and around the 2 beds in the room, Alex caught on to the fact that Mal and Y/N were laying together, with Y/N in between Mal’s legs, laying on her chest. She quietly nudged Julie who was the closest to them and she quickly took out her phone and snapped a picture, discreetly sending it to everyone but the 2 lovebirds.
“Awww! That’s so CUTE!” Rose said loudly, Sam quick to cover her mouth and shush her, Mal and Y/N looking at her in confusion.
“What’s so cute Rose?” Mal asked.
“Uh- nothing, nothing just a picture of Sam’s dog she just showed me.” She said nervously. Sam elbowed Rose in the ribs as she smiled sweetly at them.
“Oh yeah, just uh, it’s just a picture of Fin from the first bath he took.” She said nervously.
“Oh let me see!” Y/N said enthusiastically.
Sam quickly pulled up a picture to show her and mal and they both gushed over it quietly.
After a lot of debate and only a little bit of yelling, it was decided we would watch Monster’s inc. A Pixar classic.
While we weren’t sure how well the next few weeks would go for our youngest teammate, we all vowed to do whatever it took to show her that we would always be there for her, and that we would be the family that she had always been looking for.
//
THE END
This ending was awkward, and i overall don’t really like how this turned out. But hopefully it was decent.
