Whumptember 24th: Getting Lost
Tumblr media
Summary: Your son runs away at the happiest place on earth. He's rescued by none other than the Man with a Plan himself.
Prompt: @comfortcap Divider Graphic: @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
“Lucas! Lucas!” You called out frantically as your five year old son ran forward into a crowd of people. You tried to keep up with him, but he was small and quick and wove between people. He had seen the parade starting and was desperate to see some of his favorite characters pass by. He had slipped from yours and he had bolted before you could hold on to him. Now you were desperately looking for him, a panic settling in.
“Mom!” You heard his little voice calling out through the crowd of people talking and the music blasting through the speakers. You looked all around, trying to hone in on his voice. “Moooom!” You heard it again and turned in the direction of the sound. He was elevated above the rest of the crowd, his face a good two feet higher than everyone around him.
“Lucas!” You called out to him and pushed your way through the crowded area towards him. As you got closer, he was placed back down on the ground and you crashed to your knees in front of him and ran your hands all over him, making sure that he was unhurt and okay.
“God, Lucas! You can’t run away from me like that! I almost had a heart attack!”
“Sorry mom. I just really wanted to see the parade. And then you weren’t behind me anymore and I got scared. I tried to walk back to you but I got lost.”
“Lucas, I’m so glad that you are okay and that you found someone to help you. But we have talked about this. You get lost or separated from mom and you find someone who works there or a police officer, not just a stranger, even if they’re nice.” You tried to be loving and yet firm.
“He’s not a stranger. He’s Captain America!” He exclaimed to you and you rolled your eyes softly. He loved Captain America and would play pretend stories with others. “Sweetheart, just because someone helped you doesn’t make them Captain America.”
“But mooooom, he really is Captain America! See!?!?” You shook your head softly and began to stand up.
“I’m really sorry about him, he likes to think that everyone is…” Your words got stuck as you finally turned and looked up at the man standing beside you. He was holding back a laugh as he saw the look on your face of both shock and embarrassment.
“Captain America. Yeah, I seem to get that alot.” He smiled at you and let out a soft laugh. “Hi, I’m Chris.” He held his hand to shake yours and place yours in it. “Well, you’ve already met Lucas.” You said smiling at your son who was holding your other hand, watching the parade go by. “I’m Y/N.” You found yourself blushing as he held your gaze for what seemed like forever. You finally shook your head out of your daze and took your hand back.
“I don’t know how to thank you enough for helping Lucas. He’s been so excited for this trip that I should have expected him to run a bit wild. It’s not easy being the only parent for a kid who fears nothing and no one. I’m constantly trying to teach him to be cautious but he just jumps into everything head first.” You smiled down at your son and couldn’t see that Chris was smiling as well, but wasn’t looking at your son, he was looking at you.
“Lucas, we need to get going if you want to get in line for Peter Pan’s Flight. Chris, thank you again. I can’t even imagine how bad that could have been. Thanks for being a good guy. I mean, I guess you are Captain America, so it makes sense.” He laughed and bent down to be face to face with your son. “Okay Lucas, I need you to promise to stay with your mom. No more running away without her. Captain’s Orders. Got it?”
“Got it! Thanks!” He threw his arms around Chris and hugged him tightly. It took Chris by surprise a little and then he hugged back gently.
You held your son's hand and started to walk away from Chris. You looked back once and he was still looking your way. He raised his hand to wave goodbye. You waved back shyly and smiled before turning back around and walking towards Peter Pan.
As you got to the ride you saw that the line was backed up quite a bit and had a wait time of about 45 minutes. You and Lucas found ways to entertain yourself as you started waiting. About five minutes in the line, a cast member came up to you and asked you and your son to step out of line. You weren’t sure what was happening but you didn’t want to cause a scene and so you moved over out of the way.
“Ma’am, if you will follow me, please.” She walked around the building to what appeared to be the exit and entered the building. You were about to ask her what this was about when your son pulled out of your hands and started running towards the man in front of you.
“Lucas!” Chris said with excitement in his voice as he scooped your son up off the ground and held him. You smiled as you realized that it must have been him that got you the line skip. You walked up to Chris and he smiled down at you.
“I was just thinking, you could use an extra set of hands and I could really use a Disney buddy or two. What do you say? Disney buddies?” You felt your face getting hot at the way he was looking at you while he spoke. You could tell that he was asking about more than just today.
“I don’t know. Do you think we can trust him, Lucas? He may be a bad guy.” You said with a teasing smile.
“What! Go on, Lucas! Tell your mom who I am?” He pretended to be shocked and upset.
“Mooooom! He’s Captain America. He’s the good guy.” You and Chris both erupted in laughter.
“Okay, okay. You’re right. He does seem like a pretty good guy. I guess being his Disney Buddy sounds pretty good to me.”
“Yes!” Your son exclaimed. Excited to be with his personal hero at his now favorite place on earth. You had to admit, you were pretty excited as well.
“Alright.” Chris said with a smile going from ear to ear. “The Happiest Place on Earth. What are we going to do first?”

Just wanted to say your knowledge of movies in general and Thor lore in specific in amazing!
Realistically speaking, can we expect to see Fosterson together again? I still have hope in my heart that we will.
Thank you, Nonny ❤ Your words are very kind! I'm lucky enough to have had some amazing teachers who were able to help me understand story fundamentals... so it's a topic very near and dear to my heart.
And my friend I have a twofold answer. Speaking optimistically, and betting on Thor's success as a standalone franchise, and as an avengers franchise, I do think it's possible. Or in the very least, it's surely possible to at least see Thor again for a fifth (and preferably final) standalone installment.
He's a consistent money-maker. Even Love and Thunder made about as much as the other films in the THOR franchise, with each film grossing about 3.75 times the production budget of each film. (Fun fact: Thor (2011) and Thor: Love and Thunder both made ~3.0 times the production budget, versus Dark World that did 4.3 times better, and Ragnarok that did 4.7.) Critically, his worst film is L+T at 63%. This is actually worse than Dark World which sits ~67%, and between the two it's pretty clear that L+T is not a fan-favorite, but he DOES make money, and continues to be incredibly well-liked regardless. Something that I'd wager Marvel's Phase 4+ needs. Thor has prestige, and people like him and his actor. He's consistently made profits for Marvel in ALL of his films, so Marvel would be pretty stupid not to double down for a fifth movie and the promise of "thor will return". (And as much as I loathe the film, L+T might have gotten some of the mcu normies to actually bother at least paying attention to Jane, whether it's for good reason or not.) So it's a bit of a no-brainer to bring back a character, and one of the last mcu couples, that is reliable. People like heroes and they like romance. Fosterson is both rolled into one.
Within this thought process, I do think that if Marvel knew what was good for it (...debatable... but again being optimistic) then they would reunite Thor with Jane and the rest of his family where he belongs. Give him that happy ending he so deserves as the final survivor of his original cast (discounting Sif), and of the Avengers' Big Three. No one in the whole of the Avengers franchise deserves a happy ending more than Thor does.
So with that in mind, for Thor's next appearance, either it's bring back Jane similarly to the end of the Mighty Thor comic arc, or have Thor end up in Valhalla where the whole rest of his cast is. Either way, Fosterston fans like you and me would ultimately get what we want (the two reunited). Then it's a matter of "but would it feel earned to the audience who's kept with Thor for the past decade"?
As it stands: Thor is in an odd position where his options are limited, but still technically open as a character. Narratively his story simply will not be finished until he's been put to rest one way or another... Ultimately he needs to find peace, and I think anyone in the MCU fanbase can at least agree that MCU!Thor won't be able to for as long as all of his castmates are dead or otherwise written out of the picture. (Thanks to the decision to write Thor out of Asgard by revoking his birthright he can't even at least have THAT as a reason to keep going.) Even Hemsworth feels as much, whether he'll say it so explicitly or not. ("Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.")
Really a reunion should be in a 5th installment, but if they wanted to play it cheap they could maybe wrap up Thor's story in a B Plot or a cameo in whatever they have lined up for Avengers: Secret Wars. Were it up to me I would argue ostensibly that it's a "pick one" situation at this point in time. (and given they might attempt to shoehorn TVA!Loki into meeting MCU!Thor at some point to call that a day, the most profitable answer seems pretty cut and dry.)
Realistically speaking within that...? I think that all depends on Marvel/Disney's budget, and ...honestly, probably Chris Hemsworth on the whole.
There are many shifting variables in Hollywood right now. Lots of budget cuts, cancelled tv shows and films, job losses, etc. While I think the big names and upper league of the industry are going to come out relatively unscathed, I do think that Disney/Marvel may need to slow its productions down, and greatly decrease the quality and quantity in order to survive. That, and, again, the fact of the matter is that the quality of Marvel's Phase 4+ has been pretty hot garbage.
Which then leads me back to the point that: Thor is a decent money maker. He's still got material to work with if they wanted to wrap him/Chris' iteration of him up as they did with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. And this is keeping in mind that Chris Evans, despite Steve's story definitely being wrapped, is willing to come back for cameos in future appearances out of respect and love for his character.
....That said, you'll notice that I mention "respect and love for his character" when mentioning Chris Evans. Frankly, Chris Hemsworth is a bit more of a wild card. I've mentioned it (here), but it seems as though Hemsworth has largely fallen out of love with Thor. Now, when I say that I don't mean that he hates Thor. Thor is a very special character to him. Something he has stated multiple times in interviews — especially since becoming Thor really helped launch his career forward.
... The GOOD news is Chris has commented on coming back for future Thor films.
“Yeah, I think [Marvel] always [teases the characters return in films]. Look, I’m completely open to it, [...] I’ve always loved the experience. I’ve been very thankful I’ve been able to do something different each time.”
The ... BAD news is he's also commented on being largely contented with the character as is (albeit wanting to move on from Taika's take) and otherwise finding him "boring", and that there is not a lot he'd want to do with Thor now that they've spanned the course of ... mostly everything.
“You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it. I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested. I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing. So I don’t know."
He, like Evans and Downey Jr. I'm sure, wants a happy ending for his character — and I would argue that absolutely includes Jane, but the course of Disney/Marvel's Phase 4 is uncertain, because they seem to have no plan. Or at least not one beyond "insert cool cameo here"
...And Chris' faith in the character that kickstarted a large portion of his career has seemed to have utterly tanked in recent years especially. (Particularly since it's been rather hot and cold for him. If a film does well and is written wonderfully, then there isn't enough Loki in it so the MCU fanbase decides to go nutty. If it's written poorly with an ill-cast director, it does well. But then when they double down on that ill-casted director people get fed up with it because the Russo Bros. did it better in Infinity War and rightfully so. Though Chris seems to favor the IW depiction too so even he isn't immune.) So it's hard to say whether or not Chris will actually take up another contract, fulfill any that he's (allegedly) previously made or make so much as a cameo appearance to fulfill that "Thor Will Return" we were promised at the end of L+T.
"I have no idea. I've said it before, it all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don't want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I'm sure there's something exciting to tell, so we'll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find it." "Again, I don’t know if I’m even invited back. But if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity… (laughs) … Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now."
I'm afraid that sounds rather dour... but unless we actually get confirmation of a Thor 5, or Thor appearance in the inevitable Avengers movies down the line, it's really just... hard to say. As ever this is all simply hypothetical conjecture based on sheer observation. Though of course, I don't work for Marvel. And even if I did, NDAs exist, so it's not as if I could confirm or deny anything anyways. We simply have to wait and see.
PERSONALLY if I were to take a crack at it, I'd at least give Thor a 5th movie, completely wrap him up in a way that is respectful to his character while also ... attempting to acknowledge and semi-respect what Marvel has already done thus far ... and then leave the rest up to cameo and side character appearances, like what they're doing with Evans and Steve Rogers.

Chris Loves His Wife
Summary: fan interactions/witnessing how much Chris loves you.
Pairing: Chris Evans x Shy!Reader
Tumblr media
We, at FuzzBeed, love a good man and a great husband! Chris Evans is what everyone is looking for in a man. Here’s some eye witness stories:
@/puppiesaremypassion via Tweeter Chris Evans just came into the shelter I volunteered at. One of the regular workers was helping him out and all he said was “get me the fugliest and grumpiest cat and my wife will love it more than anything in the world.” He was shown the one eyed asthmatic asshole cat that doesn’t get along with the other cats or like people except for this one kitten. He took them both home as he just couldn’t separate them 😭
@/hoeforcevans OMG my mom was telling me that this guy came into her yarn shop and bought a shit ton of yarn. Turns out it was Chris Evans and his wife knits and was running low on yarn so he got her more. He had my mom help him put the bags of yarn on his arms as he wanted to do it all in one shot to his Audi. I still can’t believe she met him!
@/bitchesbesogay fcking Chris Evans strolled into the VS I work at and knew exactly what he wanted. My coworker had to help him since we didn’t have the size up at the front for one of the teddies he was buying and I was helping someone else. —BITCH HE SPENT NEARLY $300 ON LINGERIE ON HIS WIFE! 💀💀💀💀
@/imdedoverhereee I want what Chris Evans’ wife has. I was trying on dresses for this wedding I have to go to and his wife was trying on dresses as well. Him and my grandma were chatting each other up while waiting. His wife came out before me and my grandma says he jumped up out of his seat, went to his wife, grabbed her hand, and fucking twirled her around like a Disney princess. I could hear him tell her how beautiful she looks. It happened with nearly every dress she tried on.
@/notmyfaultbitchh via Tweeter uh not Chris Evans coming into the movie theater to see a late night showing of his latest movie with his wife. They got a big thing of popcorn and got two straws for this giant icee. I’m not crying over here.
@/mylifeisalieeeeeeee my husband and I were out to breakfast on a Tuesday. Chris Evans and his wife were there. They were literally in the booth behind ours with their baby. And the conversations they were having— 🥺😭🥺😭🥺
@/donutsaremylife I used to work with Chris Evans’ wife at the same company. She was pretty shy and just wouldn’t speak much unless necessary. She also just speaks so quietly. She’d bring him to the lame ass Christmas party and she’d actually speak a little more with him around and she was a bit louder. He got her to speak more.
@/donutsaremylife continued Chris would also pick her up from work especially when the weather was bad and he dropped her off whenever he could. He brought her lunch a few times when he was in town. Sometimes they would have her lunch break in his car and you could see how brightly she smiled being with him.
@/anon1 he was out with his wife getting new clothes for her. As it was time to pay, he literally grabbed her and put her off to the side before she could pay with her credit card. He quickly shoved his credit card in and paid.
@/saltypretzelz Chris and his wife were in the Sephora I work at. She’d pick something up and read what it does or look at the color name. With lipsticks/glosses, he’d swatch it on his own arm when she wasn’t looking and take a picture with the product by it’s swatch. When she figured out what he was doing, she whispered “CHRISTOPHER!” Her and I had to team up to get the swatches off of both of his arms. I still have the photo we took together.
@/anon2 I was getting new glasses as well as his wife. She wasn’t having any luck in finding a pair she liked and the optician wasn’t pulling anything great either. Chris had been taking a call outside and stepped in to the rescue. He even sat in a backless wheelie chair and zoomed around grabbing her pairs of frames to try. He eventually found a pair worthy enough for her and he presented it to her like an offering to a god. I’m pretty sure she went with that pair but he was making her laugh and everyone around him.
@/nobody.com via Tweeter Chris traded his first class seat with me for an uncomfortable middle seat in coach so he could sit with his wife who had the window seat. I think it was a last minute trip for them and couldn’t get her to first class. When I looked at them at a later time, he was happily holding her while they watched a movie together. He was looking at her most of the time.

the phantom of miscommunication (a): Dating a professional athlete is hard, and it’s even harder when you are famous too, and your schedules just keep crashing. How will their love beat their insecurities?
haunted (s): Lost in the years, lost in the days, Lewis Hamilton haunts the house that once was his. The house where he was killed. And the house that now has new inhabitants. He was used to blowing candles, breaking chinas, and it being enough for the curious newbies to leave. However, it was the first time he met someone who wouldn’t act terrified by his presence. Yn was curious, and that curiosity had a price. Lewis was the one who would collect the debt.
bad religion (s)✷: He used to be a sinner, maybe that’s why nowadays he has so much compassion for those. Your kindness, however, can be your downfall. Especially when directed towards a demon. A breach and a hand to hold were all that Yn needed to complete the Devil’s wish. Lewis should have crushed the snake’s head before she swiftly bit him.
this love is ours (f): Relationships aren’t usually easy. Add to it the fact that you date a world champion racing driver, and your dad doesn’t really like said driver and the media is ready to dissect every move you make. At the end of the day, the stakes are high and the waters can be rough, but what you share with Lewis is true love, and it’s yours
heartdresser (f): When Lewis finds himself just a couple days away from a racing weekend and without his usual braids he desperately searches for suggestions of available hairdressers in the area. As the saying goes, love can come from the most unexpected places, and Lewis is about to discover that this is, in fact, true.

Dad!Chris Evans x Wife!Reader (DiCaprio!Reader)
summary: It’s the Lightyear world premiere in L.A.—and everyone is asking where Chris’ wife, YN, and their kids are.
word count: 3.5k
warnings: fluff, more fluff, mentions of complicated pregnancy, really short mention of traumatic child labor and death of both mother and child, double the fluff, not really proofread because I’m tired
author’s note: I don’t know where this came from. But I also don’t care because it’s my first Chris piece, and I’m excited. And for age’s sake: Leo is 15-20 years older than he actually is because I kinda forgot that he is only 47 after I already finished this one xD
Tumblr media
“I’m standing here with actor Chris Evans on this beautiful sunny afternoon. How are you, Chris?” One of the many interviewer asked, and the man grinned shortly to the camera before focusing back on the woman in front of him, holding a microphone right under his nose. She was nervous; he could see that, so he didn’t say anything about it. He understood her on a different level. “Hi, Susan. We really had luck with the weather, didn’t we? And I’m great, thanks. I mean, how could I not be great?” He grinned again and pushed his sunglasses up. “I probably would feel the same when I voiced my longtime favorite character! How did your kids react? You have two, right?”
At the mention of his two sunbeams back home, the father couldn’t help but smile softly. It may have taken a long while to find the perfect woman and the love of his life and an even longer while to create these two joys in his life, but Chris thanked the universe every single day for the honor of having them in his life.
“I have two wonderful and beautiful children, yes, and number three is on their way. My eldest, Ophelia, was over the moon when I left my study a few months back after I had just wrapped up the call with my manager and Disney and were allowed to talk about it. She, of course, eavesdropped because she just loves to do it when it contains me and my study. And she had picked up on some parts of the conversation and had bounced up and down and asked me nonstop if it’s true and I’m playing Buzz. It’s her favorite Toy Story character, so I had a bit of pressure while doing the actual work.” He showed his thumb and pointer moving very closely together and chuckled. “Who am I kiddin’, I had a lot of pressure,” he laughed, and Susan laughed with him. “I only can imagine how it is with such a harsh critique living under the same roof. How did your second child react?” Chris grinned again, and it was visible for everyone to see in this world how much he adored his two children. “My son Aiden was much more chilled. Well, it’s not science because he only objects if someone dares to steal his share of ice cream—or cuddle time with his mom. He had only shrugged after Ophelia had screamed through the living room that I was voicing Buzz, but he was kinda excited after we watched it for the first time and heard my voice. Y’know, to see your own kids become happy and have those big round eyes just like you at your first Disney movie and the birth of your first movie heroes? It’s something entirely else. And to witness this moment while they watched Lightyear? Mindblowing, really.”
His chest was swelled with pride, and everyone around gushed over the epitome of proud fatherhood Chris was in this very moment. And he didn’t mind because he could boast all day long about his kids—and wife. Speaking of which…
“This is probably the sweetest story I’ve ever heard. Thank you for sharing this very intimate insight of your family life with us, Chris,” the interviewer thanked him with a genuine smile, but Chris only waved it off. They might keep their kids out of the spotlight to grant them the childhood he had been gifted by his parents, but they never stopped talking about them when people asked. “Is it okay if I ask about your wife and why she isn’t here today? She usually is at all your premieres and vice versa. I barely can remember a time without her at your side or you at hers, to be quite honest. You two really found one another.” Chris nodded in absolute agreement. “We really did. It was unexpected and kinda bumpy—quite literally.”
The husband remembered their first encounter at one of the Oscar Afterparties vividly where the stunning woman had bumped into him—and had driven the heel of her painful stilettos into his shoe. Ever since the actor saw these shoes with other eyes. He returned back to reality. “But we pushed through the obstacles, and I am the lucky bastard she had agreed to marry. Lucky me.” He chuckled under his breath and shook his head. YN would hit him as soon as she saw this interview, and maybe she sat in front of the tv at this very moment and watched him gushing over their family. “But back to your question, Susan. YN is currently at home, maybe watching this interview and throwing a pillow to the tv because she is heavily pregnant and can’t get up without help anymore.” Chris grinned straight into the camera. “I’m sorry, love!” He almost shouted after the exposure of her struggling state he almost loved the most about her being pregnant.
He just was a sucker for his wife when she called for him to help her with the easiest of tasks and boss him around as if there was no tomorrow. But he was a happily obliging husband because, after all, her state had been his fault. Something he would always be proud of.
“She wanted to come with me, but the doctor had put her on bed rest for the time being after we experienced a tiny scare of our little one two weeks back.” The same icy cold feeling ran his back up and down, just the same he had felt during the few hours of panic and anxiety in the depths of night when their unborn child tried to greet them earlier than agreed. And gladly, as stubborn his wife could be, she kept her word and watched out for herself and the little bub instead of ignoring every warning and trying to go head first through every wall possible. His father-in-law was a great help on days like this when Chris couldn’t be at home to watch out for his love and his tiny love. “I am sorry to hear that. But now, everything is back on track and in order?” The actor nodded, relieved. “So far, yes. But it still means I have to attend these without her calming presence, and let me tell’ya: it’s freaking scary.” And then, he laughed and shook his head. “I’ve never expected to be so lost without her. I almost forgot to lace my shoes because my head was all over the place,” he let out and still couldn’t believe how his life had changed within only a few years.
“Don’t worry, Chris, I feel the same. My life without my girlfriend? God, send some help,” Susan laughed with him, and Chris smiled thankfully. “So, I suppose you will head straight back home after the screening?” And the Evans was more than relieved to nod this question yes. “Totally. I love everyone involved in this movie, and I’m beyond grateful. However, my priorities are heading home, being greeted by Dodge and maybe the kids if they’re still awake, thanking Leo for keeping an eye on these two—more like three, Dodger included—troublemakers and his daughter, and then finally greeting my wife. We probably will watch a Disney movie, eventually waking the kids with the sounds, and everything will morph into a huge Disney sleepover on the couch. And yes, that’s the description of my personal favorite night.” He had always been a more at-home type of guy after passing a certain age, but now, it was all he could ever want.
“That sounds like a night in just like mine, minus the children. Thank you again for talking to me, Chris, and congratulations on the brilliant movie and your family. I’m definitely not the only one when I’m saying that you deserve every single bit of it,” Susan closed the interview, and Chris waved a last time to the people standing behind her before heading back to the red carpet to get the final shots for the press.
;
Chris was glad that they had settled back to L.A. for the making of Lightyear to avoid stressful last-minute flights from one side of the country to the other. He could be there if something happened at home, almost within a matter of thirty minutes tops, and Leo wasn’t busy as he usually was to help him with keeping an eye on everyone. And now, he was glad because it meant he could hold his wife in his arms after only a twenty-minute drive instead of an almost six-hour flight. He could even grab her favorite ice cream flavor on the way home.
Leaving the car and wishing Daniel, his driver for today, a good night, Chris slowly followed the pathway, flanked with blooming bushes and flowers exploding in every color there was, up to the four steps leading to the porch and door. Their L.A. house reminded him of home back in Boston, and he couldn’t wait for them to move back and relish in the family time they would have after baby number three was born.
Smiling at the sounds of an excited Dodger waiting for him, Chris took two steps at a time and opened the door to get in. His fur companion wiggled with his tail at the sight of his human, and the Evans crouched down to greet him with a loving scratch behind his ears. “How is my best boy?” He asked and chuckled as Dodger impatiently nudged his hand to follow him. He wanted to, but tiny, excited voices let him stop in his tracks.
“Daddy! Daddy!”
“Daddy’s home!”
Two tiny humans rounded the corner into the hallway at full speed, and the father could only let the bag with ice cream and snacks drop to the floor before he was attacked by the hugs of his five-year-old girl and an almost four-year-old boy. “What a greeting!” He laughed as he lifted both children in his arms and tickled squealing noises out of them. Ophelia grinned brightly—the grin almost too big for her pretty little face— while Aiden preferred to snuggle onto his father’s shoulder. It was late for him, and Chris was actually surprised at how long he had pushed through.
“Did you bring the biiiig Buzz? I saw him on TV! I want him! He is so cool and sooo big! And Sox??? They had a statue of him too! Did you see it, Daddy?? Can we go there tomorrow?? Please??”
Chris chuckled at the tsunami of questions he already had anticipated, but another voice slid into the conversation. “Lia, darling. Give your dad some time to arrive and at least to take off his shoes,” Leo quipped with a small grin on his face and stepped to his son-in-law to take the kids off him. “But, Poooops!” Ophelia pouted heavily, and even Aiden seemed not happy about the interruption of stories. “No but’s, darling. Come on; you said you wanted to bake a cake for your dad and the work is only halfway done. Plus, your mom said something about craving a banana smoothie. Who wants a banana smoothie?”
And suddenly, the world was back in order, and both kids screamed “Yes!” throughout the entire house.
Chris followed them after taking off his shoes and retrieving the paper bag again. He took one spoon from the kitchen on his way to the living room and already saw the head of his wife peeking up between thick couch pillows. The husband left the bag with snacks at the opening of the kitchen, only taking the ice cream bucket with him. He crouched behind the back of the couch and let his arm appear from behind in front of the woman he loved—ice cream presented like an offering to the gods.
“M’lady, I brought gifts,” Chris laughed softly at her gasp and grabby hands, kissing her cheek tenderly. “Fine sir, do you possess the ability of mind reading? We should consider burning you at the stake.” YN had turned her head and grinned up to him as he rounded the couch and plopped down next to her. She was dressed in one of his Red Sox shirts—usually, it would be way too big for her, but now with the ever-growing baby bump, it fitted perfectly—, yoga pants and fluffy socks under which she probably hid the pestering compression socks the doctor had prescribed for the next weeks. “Please, I beg you, don’t burn me! Who would tend to your needs, m’lady?” YN’s eyes wandered to Dodger, who had taken over his place at her side once more. Ever the protective fur baby, Chris thought with a smile. “I could train Dodge to go to the store. Remember this video with the dog and his little basket on the market? Where he bought fruits for his owner? It could be Dodger after a bit of persuasion.” The woman grinned brightly, the same grin Ophelia owned, and with one hand on his neck, she pulled his face closer to hers. Chris obliged and leaned down to press their lips together in a loving kiss, which still let butterflies erupt in his stomach.
“Hey,” Chris whispered, lips still touching, and YN sighed. “Hey,” she returned just as quiet as he and nudged his nose with hers. “Everything alright?” She could see the worry in his blue eyes, darkening them a bit, so she took his hand and put it on the right side of her still-growing bump, even though she was almost through with it. But each pregnancy held its own surprises, as she had experienced. “Of course,” she smiled at his joyful, boyish grin as he felt one of the many kicks of their third bundle of joy. Number three may be an accident because, after Aiden’s birth, they had agreed on waiting a couple more years to grant them the attention they both deserved, but everything would be okay. And she couldn’t imagine a life without bub three.
Chris bent his head down to the spot where he suspected his baby’s head and pressed a kiss on top of his… YN’s shirt. “Hey, love. Here is your daddy speaking. I hope you didn’t give your mom a hard time today, and I damn sure hope you will continue to be a good girl in a few hours when she tries to sleep—unlike the last three nights. ‘Thought we had a deal.” YN chuckled while her fingers carded through Chris’ fluffy hair but groaned at a particularly hard kick. “Love,” they both warned in unison before YN settled back into the cushions and continued to caress her husband’s hair and scalp. “A girl, huh?” She softly smiled at the man who had swept her off her feet so suddenly, she still wondered how she didn’t brake her neck in the wake of his adorable flirting endeavors she oh so happily had returned. Chris leaned his cheek against her bump, wanting to be as close as possible to his baby and wife, and her knuckles tenderly stroked over his bearded cheek. He had a boyish smile tucking at his lips. “S’just a feelin’,” he mumbled, Boston accent very prominent—just as always when he felt contentment and happiness, mostly when he was at home with his family. YN grinned down at him while slowly rubbing the spot where the tiny bub had kicked again. “You can admit that you want another girl. Nobody would be surprised, y’know? The whole internet sees you as a girl-dad,” YN winked, and Chris’ rumbling laugh almost shook her body as well. “Do they, yeah?” She nodded and tipped the tip of his nose with the pad of her finger. “Yes, they do, and we both know that you know this as well. Don’t try to fool lil’ ol’ me, Mr. Evans. I’m aware of your stalking tendencies when it comes to your fans and this family.”
Chris grinned sheepishly before sitting up and pressing another kiss to her lips. “Wouldn’t dream of it, Mrs. Evans,” he whispered before commotion erupted in the kitchen and tiny feet came rushing over. “Mommy! Mommy, look! I made banana shake!” Aiden proudly presented the filled glass, and both parents were sure there would be a dripping trail of shake from the kitchen to the couch. But her father already followed with a kitchen towel in hand. “We made the banana shake,” Ophelia stressed and gave her mom the reusable straw she had carried while Aiden gave her the glass. The mother almost teared up and blinked rapidly to hide the tears. “You two are too good to me,” she sniffled before taking the first sip and hummed in utter approval. “Perfection. Maybe you should think about opening a shake shop.” Ophelia giggled while Aiden squeezed himself between Dodger and his mother. With another human, Dodger wouldn’t have any of that, but with his family, he only made space and put his head in his tiny human’s lap to get the cuddles he loved.
Meanwhile, Ophelia climbed into the spot between her mom and dad and cuddled into Chris’ side, grabbing the ice cream out of her mother’s hands and starting to steal a few spoons full of sugary delight. He had thought about getting up to change into something more comfortable, but he decided that this was much better. He could outlive a few hours without his sweatpants. Leo returned after bringing the kitchen towel into the laundry room and bent down to press a kiss to the top of his youngest daughter’s head. “I would head over if you don’t need anything else, darling,” he said, and YN looked up to him with all the love she held for this man. “Of course. Thanks again for coming over and handling everything.” She really had lucked out in the family department, even before finding Chris and creating her own perfect family with the perfect man that was her husband. The DiCaprio smiled down at her and kissed her forehead. “That’s nothing to thank me for.” And with that, he kissed his grandkids goodbye before patting his son-in-law’s shoulder. “There is a cake in the oven, but the timer is set.” Chris nodded, and after peeling a grumpy Ophelia off his side, he stood up and brought Leo to the door.
There, the older man turned again. “Before I go… I wanted to thank you, Chris, for making her so happy. You know what happened to her mother, and though it was a long time ago, it had always cast a shadow over her.” Chris knew what Leo was referring to; YN had told him about the traumatic labor her mother went through, only that she died and the baby with her. It had taken its toll on Leo, too, and the whole family had needed years to recover from it. It still amazed Chris how she had handled every pregnancy and every birth, although she knew what could go wrong. “But with you, she finally is… I can’t even describe it. Not to mention that you took her fear. So… Thank you.” Both men hugged each other closely, patted their backs reaffirmingly. “It’s an honor to love her and have her in my life because you raised one of the best women on earth. You deserve every thank I could offer you,” Chris mumbled before they let go of one another. Leonardo waved it off, but in reality, it was the proudest achievement in his life. YN and her sister were his pride and joy, just as Ophelia, Aiden, and the little one were Chris’ pride and joy. “Have a good night, Chris, and give me a call if it’s happening, yeah?” Chris nodded without hesitation. “Yeah, of course.“
Returning into the living room in his favorite sweatpants and Red Sox shirt—one of the few he actually was allowed to wear and which wasn’t claimed by his darling wife—Chris sat back next to Ophelia and out his arm on the back of the couch to softly caress YN’s neck and shoulder. “The kids decided that we’re watching Wall-E,” she let him know while his eldest already held onto the remote and scrolled through Disney+. “Daddy?” He hummed in question at Aiden’s voice. “Lia and I want see biiiiig Sox,” he told the family, and YN softly shrugged at Chris’ questioning look in her direction. “If they’re still there, why not? You two have to take a lot of pictures for me, ‘kay?” Aiden nodded with a serious expression. “Otay!” YN carded through her son’s mop of blonde hair—Chris’ genes definitely outrun hers—and changed another look with her husband, both obviously thinking the same. “You know, after your brother or sister is born, maybe we could check out Disney World and if they already have a Buzz and Sox there.” Both parents knew what mentioning Disney World would do to their kids, but they didn’t mind the explosion of tiny voices. Instead, Chris settled back right next to his wife, hand again on her bump, while they watched their children playing in the living room—Dodger was Sox, Ophelia played Izzy, and Aiden was Buzz himself.”
YN laughed softly and leaned her head onto Chris’ shoulder. “We really have a Disney obsessed family.” Chris grinned in total contentment and kissed her head. “We have, and I don’t want it any other way.”

I don’t know where all these words came from, but I kinda couldn’t stop writing. Even though it’s kinda shitty, I hope y’all enjoyed it! As usual: Comments, reblogs, and likes are much appreciated <3

It just occurred to me that Chris Evans has said multiple times that his favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid.
A movie about a young girl who gives up her voice to pursue an older guy. She gives up her own world to go to his and conform to his life entirely, and even after regaining her voice, she chooses to stay with him in this strange land away from her family and comfort. All for this grown man she saw and so desperately wanted to be with. She gave up her whole life for him, including the things that made her, her. She adapted to him and his life completely, and he was more than happy to let her do it.
Thats his favorite Disney movie.

Chris Evans was probably the softest man alive, yeah sure; he was built like a tree trunk with a body that looked like it had been sculpted by gods, blue eyes could make anyone melt and a smile to match, but that couldn’t change the fact that your fiancé was the most cuddly, huggable person.
He would always take the chance to plant kisses on your forehead before leaves for his morning jog, or your cheeks whenever he hugs you from behind, his arms pulling you towards his frame or when the both of you were cuddled under your blanket, watching Disney movies that the both of you love so much.
Especially the little mermaid, just because Chris loved singing along and you loved it when he does, proves that grown men can love Disney too.
Then, there were the times when Chris would ever so softly capture your lips in his, your eyes fluttering shut as his large hand gently cupped your face as he leans in closer, deepening the kiss, oh, it would always make your heart race whenever the both of you kiss, it was always tender and loving, and as cliché as it sounded, it felt like the world has faded away and it was just you and Chris.
Make out sessions were the best, you two would be cuddling, Chris loved being the small spoon though he probably would never let you say that, when Chris would kiss you, both your lips moving in sync.
Chris would wrap an arm around you, pulling you close to his warmth, holding you as he presses gentle open mouthed kisses on your neck, you would sometimes giggle because his beard tickles, and it would always make Chris chuckle and he would move his head just to see you squirm because honestly, he loves your laugh, when you laugh, he laughs and when you smile, he does the same.
“I thought you liked my beard,”
“I do hot stuff,”
“So, I’m hot now huh?”
“You were always hot.”
Then there were the times where Chris would press butterfly kisses down your shoulders, moaning as you straddle him, your eyes close as your fingers knotted through his hair.
“You’re perfect,” Chris would say against your skin, making you giggle lightly.
“No one’s perfect,”
“You are, you’re smart, kind, gorgeous,”. He would say between kisses, kisses that led right back up to your lips, capturing them in his as he wraps his arms around you, pulling you closer to him, almost as if he was afraid that he would open his eyes to see you gone.
“You’re my everything, you know that?” Chris said against your lips, and you couldn’t stop the small smile that spread across your face.
“You’re exaggerating.” You would reply and Chris would mumble a no.
“I'm not, don’t know what I’d do without you baby,”
Chris making love to you was in a word, perfect. He would plant soft kisses on your neck, his warm breath tickling your skin as he thrust into your heat.
His fingers laced with yours as he pressed you into the bed, his frame above you as you wrapped your legs around his waist tightly, pulling him closer to you.
“So close,” Chris groans, your walls tightening around him was all it takes for him to come undone, spilling his seed into you, the both of you breathless and panting, coming down from high.
Chris was ironically the perfect one, there was never a time where he would reject you or your extremely comfortable cuddles, he was gentle with you, caring and most importantly, he loved all of you with his entire heart.

He Broke Us ...💔
Chapter 2
Paring : Chris Evans x Lana Parker
Word Count: 3.5k
‼️More Chapters are uploaded on Wattpad.. link in my bio :)‼️
Lana Pov
Aria is babbling some baby nonsense while standing next to my legs as I'm locking up my front door. We are headed to the park to have a late lunch today. All of a sudden I have a feeling like someone is watching me, and I turn around and grab my chest, trying to calm my breathing as if it's just Steven.
"Steven, you scared me; don't ever do that again," I say, grabbing my chest and looking down towards Aria.
"Mommy is scward. Swtevn bad.." Aria babbles, and I can't help but smile. I take her little hand in mine, and my other hand grabs the picnic basket.
"Steven is bad, Aria," I say, picking her up and placing her on my hip, shooting Steven a wink.
"So Lana, you guys are headed to the park, I assume?" he says as he fiddles with his keys.
"Yes, we are; would you like to come along, Steven?" I asked him, already knowing his answer, and trusting my gut, I packed some extra sandwiches.
"Are you kidding me? I would love to," he says as he backs up to let us pass by.
Great, we will meet you there," I say, taking Aria's hand and waving back to Steven as he waves back.
I walk down the stairs of my apartment complex and walk towards my car. I put Aria in her car seat and kiss her little hands, and she giggles. I place our picnic basket next to her and walk around to the driver's side.
"Ready baby?" I ask her as I put my seat belt on and turn the AC on.
"Yeah, mommy," she says.
I smile and turn some music on. I play some Disney songs and pull out, driving towards the park.
Steven was our neighbor in the apartment complex I live in; he moved in when Aria was about seven months old and has been trying to take me out on a date since. I don't think I'm ready to date again, but he is good company and cares for Aria, and I like to think Aria likes him, so I friend-zoned him, but that doesn't stop him from trying.
Once we arrive at the park, I help Aria out of her car seat, he grabs her Mickey Mouse, and I grab the basket. While we wait for Steven, I apply some sunscreen to her arms and her adorable chubby face. After we see Steven pull in, we walk towards one of the play structures and sit down as we watch Aria play. After Aria is done playing on the playground and swings, we walk over to a shaded area.
This is a big park and has three sides. A huge dog park, a kid's park, and a hill where you could have a picnic and hang out with your families.
Okay, my sweet girl, here is your jelly sandwich, crackers, and apple juice," I say as I hand her some napkins and tuck them on under the overalls she's wearing, and we start eating. Steven and I fall back into a conversation about my next book release.
I'm a children's book writer (for the Lucky Dog series), and I stopped writing after having Aria, but recently something inspired me to start writing again. I'm almost finished and waiting to hear from my publishing company. I'm excited to start publishing again. It was the one thing that could shut me out of the real world and help me focus on having a little me time while Aria would nap.
..
Steven, could you please watch her as I throw away this trash? I say, getting up after we finished eating and Aria insisted on walking around to look at the little flowers around the park.
"Sure thing," he says, grabbing Aria and throwing her up in the sky as she giggles. I pick up everything and place it in the trash bag I brought with me.
"Okay, thank you; I'll be right back," I say, walking away from them. I'm walking towards our car, where I saw some trash cans earlier.
Surprisingly, today the park isn't too crowded, and there are only maybe five families out, which is shocking. I throw away my trash and walk back toward where I left them.
I walk over to Steven, who is sitting on a bench while he is talking on the phone, but I can't see Aria anywhere. I run towards him.
"Steven! Where is Aria? "I'm panicking, looking behind and around him, but I can't see her anywhere.
"Oh, yeah, she was right here looking at the flowers, I swear. I am so sorry," he says as he puts the phone down. He gets up and looks for her, calling her name.
"MOVE!" I yell at him as my blood is boiling and I'm getting scared. Maybe she was taken or ran towards the oncoming traffic... I ran back to where we had lunch.
My heart is panicking, and I'm about ready to cry when I can't see her anywhere.
"ARIA!!! ARIA!!!" I yelled, running around trying to find her.
Where are you, damn it. Aria? Please come back.
I run across the park while Steven runs to the other one, and I'm running around when I hear her giggling... I run faster, and I see her near a tree, under a dog, and a man kneeling near her.
"ARIA, OH MY GOD, ARIA!!!! I yell, running towards them, and I see the dog get up and be pulled again. I run closer, and the man on the ground gets up, and I freeze in the spot.
"NOO! It can't be. Chris! What is he doing here? Why is he here?" I mumble to myself.
I lock eyes with him, and he has the same look as me. I see Dodger, and he runs towards me, almost knocking me down. I push my emotions aside and run over to Aria to pick her up.
"Mommy lowk doggy," she says. I pick her up from Dodger as he licks my leg.
Aria is babbling, and I see her jeans are a little ripped, so I'm guessing she fell down.
I look back at Chris, and he was about to say something when Steven runs up and stands next to us, and before Chris can say anything, I speak up and stop him from saying anything.
"Thank you. Have a nice day, Mr.," I say and walk off with Steven.
"Bye bye, doggy. Mawa Iowe doggy," Aria says as I kiss her cheeks, walking off, not daring to look back.
I walk off, and the tears are falling down fast. Steven seems to notice, and he tries to take Aria from me, and I just hold her tighter. I walk over to my car and unlock it.
I buckle Aria in her car seat as she is babbling about Dodger and trying to tell Steven, and I kiss her head while handing her a cardboard book, and Mickey and I shut the door.
"I'm so sorry, Lana," Steven tries to say something, but I wipe my tears and tell him I will see him soon and talk later. I get in the car and drive off, pushing the emotions aside for Aria. I cannot break down right now.
...
I'm rocking Aria in her bedroom, putting her down for bed after I've given her a shower and cleaned up her cut, and my thoughts are all over the place.
What if he knows and is here to take her away from me?
Why is he back now?
Has he moved on?
After two years, why is he back?
"Mawa..." I hear Aria say, tucking on my shirt, taking me out of my thoughts as I rock her.
"Yes, baby..." I whisper.
"Twat was daddy, with doggie in pawk? Aria asks me, and my eyes are holding on to the tears, not allowing them to escape just yet.
"Yes, yes, baby.. daddy was in the park.. he is back from work.." I say this as I put her in her crib or toddler bed.
"When he comes to live with us..." Aria whispers as her eyes get heavy and her breathing slows down as she falls into a slumber.
I kiss her forehead, turn on the sound machine, grab the baby monitor, and walk out, leaving the door a little open.
...
I walk into the kitchen and grab some water and Tylenol, then walk into the living room and place the baby monitor on the coffee table.
After taking two Tylenols, I chug the water and break down in the living room. Why was he back in Boston, and why didn't Lisa say anything this afternoon when she came by?
I will not let him take my baby away. After all, he did. And the fact that the Dodgers recognized Aria breaks my heart. He always knew before I could even find out.
I met Chris when I used to volunteer at Miles Elementary School's clubs program. My first book series was coming out, and I would come out to the children's library and read my books to the after-school kids in clubs, where Chris walked into my life and stole my heart and made me feel like the luckiest woman alive until he fucked up and threw it all away, while taking my heart with him.
Flashback (2017)
"Carly, which one is he in again? I ask my sister.
"Chris is in room 2b next to the library; just walk in and you will see him." Okay, thanks. I think I can figure it out. Bye, Carly.
"Again, thank you, Chris," she says, and I can hear Stella and Ethan arguing about something in the background.
"Any time," I say, hanging up and getting out of my car.
I hang up the phone and walk into the school office. Carly had an appointment with the big kids, and I need to pick up Miles from after-school clubs. The lady in front has me sign in to a log sheet. She hands me a sticker to put on, and I back up and bump into someone. I hear a thump, and I look down, and I see all her things on the floor. "Oh my," she says in the sweetest voice.
"I'm so sorry," I say and help her up, picking up her folder and book. I get a good look at her, and she is just drop-dead gorgeous.
"It's okay," she says. Before I can say anything, she walks over behind the counter, grabs a patch, and walks by.
I shake my head and walk towards the door of the office to walk onto campus. I look for the library. I spot it on the other side of me, and I run over, and I see most parents inside lined up along the glass wall looking at other children. I walk into the room and see all the kids on the floor waiting quietly. Just then she walks in with a book and introduces herself as Miss. Parker. She starts to read her book, and I can't help but actually listen to the whole children's book.
After she finishes, I can't help but start clapping, breaking the silence, and all eyes are on me as if I needed that. I smile and fidget with my baseball cap and thank God for Miles as he and the other kids start to clap, breaking the awkward silence, and I just smile and kick my feet.
Miles is clapping on the floor with his kindergarten buddies, up to me with his copy of the book.
"Uncle Chwis," he says, catching everyone's attention yet again, and Miss. Parker smiles.
Everyone soon leaves the room as the kids go to grab their belongings from the gym, and I'm left alone with Miss. Parker.
"So Uncle Chwis, you crash all of Miles's afternoon clubs; am I just the lucky one today?" she says mockingly while she grabs her things and walks up to me.
Uh, no, actually, your voice is just so soothing, and I loved your book...and well, um, this is my first time crashing anything," I say, reaching behind my neck and rubbing my hair, and she just laughs.
"Well, thank you, and I'm honored," she says.
"Um, hi, my name is Chris," I say, reaching for her hands, which she takes and are so soft and smooth as she shakes my hand.
"Miss. Parker, nice to meet you, Chris," she says, smiling, and lets go of my hand.
"So, Miss. Parker, do you have a name?" I say I'm trying to shoot my shot, and I smile back at her, and I can see her cheeks brighten as she blushes.
"I do, Captain America, but you're going to have to excuse me; someone there is calling me. See you around," she says as she leaves me stunned, so she knows who I am. I walk out behind her, and Miles runs up to me, and I grab his backpack, leaning it over my shoulder. I grab his hand, and we walk out towards the parking lot over to my car. As we reach the car, I open his door, place his backpack down, and help him in. I see he is holding a copy of The Lucky Dog. I snatched it from him.
"Hey, twats mine," he says as I grab his little hand, shoo it away, and run my fingers through his hair.
"I know I'm just looking after it." I say, and I buckle Miles in and flip to the back of the book.
Ahhh "Alana Parker".
... A few days later
Chris ended up picking Miles up the next Monday in hopes of seeing Lana again, and to his luck, she was there in the library. He smiled and entered and sat through the whole reading again, and this time he tried to be more subtle than last week.
After Lana was done and the kids went to grab their belongings, Chris took the chance and walked over to Lana.
"So, Miss. Parker, or should I say Alana,"  you have a beautiful name? I'm walking up to her.
"Ahhh yes, Chris. Thank you. My grandparents named me," she says, and he hands me a signed copy of her book.
"So you don't come every Monday and can read at home now?" she snickers while handing me a brand-new copy of her book.
I smile and take it.
Chris ends up asking Lana on a date, and by the second date, he falls in love with her, and he falls hard.
End of Flashback
...
Lana pov
I cannot believe he is back. It's all a big shock to me.
Chris and I hit off pretty quickly after our first and second dates. Five months into dating, I moved in with Chris and put my apartment or home out to lease for someone. A year later, he had to go back to work to promote the last Avengers, and I stayed back in Boston to finish my last book for series one of The Lucky Dog.
We couldn't live without each other and would always call when we weren't working. After 6 months, he came back after the premiere of Endgame. I met his family and friends, and he met my grandparents, and I loved my life.
In late 2017, after just dating for a couple of months, Chris proposed, and I said yes. We told everyone the news in February 2018 that Chris was taking a break from acting, and we agreed to get married in 2019. We had a date and everything. Everyone was so happy for us.
That night it was one of Chris's friends, Tara's birthday, and I wasn't feeling to go, so Chris went to celebrate and I stayed home with Dodger. I hadn't been feeling well for two weeks at the time, and I had placed an Amazon order for some pregnancy tests that just happened to be delivered the same night.
I remember wasting no time and taking a test, and when it came back as pregnant, I jumped up and down. I was with Dodger when I found out, and he was nudging my leg when I found out he was barking along. He had been extra clingy and lying on my tummy the whole week, so that explained that.
I was in our bedroom at the time when I heard the front door open, and I hid the test in my back pocket. I wanted to surprise Chris in a cute way, but that went out the window when I heard his footsteps, and I wanted to tell him right away that he was about to become a dad. We would often daydream about having a little family of our own, and I couldn't believe it was happening.
As soon as Chris walked in the room, he was super drunk—more drunk than I've ever seen him—and he was so angry that night.
Flashback (2019)
"Dodger looks like Daddy is back. Let's surprise him with your little brother or sister. I coo to Dodger, and Dodger barks back. I get up from the ottoman in front of our bed.
I can hear Chris come up the stairs, and out of nowhere I hear glass breaking.
I run out of the room, and I see Chris standing on the stairs, pulling the picture frames of us from the walls and dropping them on the floor, breaking them.
Chris, what are you doing? I say as he stops and looks my way, He looks mad; he is super drunk and can barely walk in a straight line. He walks past me into the room, and I follow behind him as Dodger is behind me whining.
Chris walks over to the bed and falls down, and Dodger runs up to him. I'm still standing by the door, shocked at Chris's behavior. I've seen and been around him when he was drunk in the past, but he's always super cuddly and soft. I've never seen him this annoyed or angry. Dodger gets on the bed and starts to bark and lick his face, which leads Chris to jump up and take Dodger and walk him towards the door and push him outside, and he looks at the door and looks my way.
"Chris, you're scaring me? I say as he walks over.
"SHUT UP!" He yells and I jump. He's never screamed at me.
"Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris... do you ever shut up, Lana? You're so annoying and ugh," he spits out, walking towards me and taking my hand in his.
"Baby.. I-,"
"Don't call me that," he spits out.
I don't have the words for what's happening, and Dodger is barking outside the door.
Chris cages me in, takes my left hand, pulls my ring off, and waves it around in my face.
"You're the mistake, Lana," he slurs.
"GET OUT! I don't want you here," he says as he throws the ring somewhere in the room.
"Get out before you ruin my life." He screams and pushes me out of the room, locking it behind him, and I hear him throwing stuff around.
End of Flashback
I remember him pushing me out, and I stayed out all night long, crying for Chris to open the door, but he didn't. The next morning I woke up on the couch and looked around. It was quiet, and the time was 6:30 in the morning. I went to the gym to check on Chris, and when I didn't see him, I ran upstairs and into the bedroom, and to my surprise, he wasn't there. I thought he and Dodger went on a morning run until I went to use the bathroom and most of Chris's things were gone and so was Dodger, but there was a note on the bed.
Lana Parker
I can't do this; you are in the way between me and my career. I need to go back to LA and try to save my career after Captain America and land some films, and you are in the way. I realized I do not want the same things as you right now, so please leave and never contact me or my family again.
Chris Evans.
I cried and cried that day and remembered I was pregnant with his baby—our baby—baby Aria.
I left Chris's family alone, emptied out his house, and moved back into my old apartment. I ended up blocking everyone I knew of his I went to the doctor when my morning sickness started kicking in, and I found out I was at least 14 weeks pregnant. I was only 5 months old when my grandparents passed away. My only family left wasMy parents were both killed in a car accident, and my grandparents raised me. They were both very successful and had a lot of money left for me and my baby. Grandma eventually found out I was pregnant, and I lied to them and said Chris was away filming. I still regret not telling them the truth; it sometimes haunts me in my sleep. I sold some land they owned in Europe, and I and Aria are good for a lifetime.
When I was nine months pregnant, Lisa ran into me at the supermarket and found out I was pregnant with Chris's baby, and eventually, all the Evans found out. Now Lisa comes over every Friday for lunch or breakfast, and Aria meets her aunts and uncles for holidays, but now that Chris is back, I don't know anymore.
I gather myself off the floor and walk towards my bedroom and into the bathroom. I wash my face and get in the shower.
"You will not let him win Aria," I tell myself in the mirror as I dry my hair.
I walk into my bedroom, place the baby monitor on the nightstand, get into bed, and think of ways to explain to Aria now that her father is back and she's seen him.

As a child, you’ve always dreamed of being an actress. When kids your age were watching Disney movies, you were watching movies from Jodie Foster and Tom Hanks. The world of Hollywood and the filmmaking industry were so fascinating. In your eyes, it felt like a fever dream. Everything about it was drawing you in slowly. Nothing in this world could change your love for acting or the goal of becoming one.
There was a slight problem.
You had social anxiety. And that is not a good quality, especially for a want-to-be actor.
Being an introvert and having social anxiety was not so easy for you. Hell, it was difficult for anyone that was suffering from it. Children made fun of you for not answering back. They never picked you up during gym and made fun of you when they heard you wanted to become an actress.
After many therapy lessons, you became a little more confident and finally got the nerves to audition for a role in a movie.
The movie changed everything for you.
It was a daughter-mother dynamic, and Michelle Pfeiffer played the mother. You were thrilled when you got the callback, saying you got the part. It was one of the year's best movies, and Michelle won an Oscar, and they nominated you as the best supporting actress. It didn't matter that you won nothing because it was never about the awards. You wanted to become an actress because it gave you happiness. It also gave you your current boyfriend, Chris Evans.
You and Chris met in 2017 when they announced that the two of you would play lovers in the new Greta Gerwig movie. He was dating his girlfriend back then. The two of you immediately hit it off. He was always nice to you and wanted to hang out with you. Chris was mesmerized by how you looked and how professional and childish you could be on set.
If he had a smile, it was because of you. Everything good happening to him was because of you. And Chris wasn't complaining. He took you out for coffee during breaks and introduced you to his dog. Chris was friendly to you, and you were nice to him. Social media went crazy when they saw pictures of you together and speculated that you and he were together. Of course, those weren’t true, and you would never do something like that to another woman.
But the truth was, the more Chris spent time with you, the more he fell in love. You had so much in common that he thought you were like his female version. There was a slight age gap, but not too big. Chris thought seven years were reasonable enough to have a relationship with you. But he had to break up with his girlfriend first.
It wasn’t a big surprise to the media when Chris and his girlfriend announced their breakup. It was a big surprise to you because never thought he would break his relationship to be with you. Not even once during your conversations did you ask him to do something like that. You didn't even 'hint' it to do so.
He started dating you five months after the breakup. Chris didn’t want to rush things and get all the media’s attention on you. So, he waited. He bought you gifts, took you back to Boston so you could meet his family, and even took you back to his place to make you his famous pesto eggs.
Everything was perfect. Until you found out that you were pregnant. You and Chris were beyond excited and happy with the news. Building a family was one of his biggest dreams, and that It came true because of you couldn't be better in Chris' eyes. You knew it was a little early in your relationship, but you loved him, and he loved you, so it didn’t matter.
Chris announced the news to the world and proudly said he would be a father. The media was shaking when they got the information, relieved that Chris would finally be a 'daddy.' But a group of people also wanted to hate on you.
The fans of his former relationship were not so kind, to say the least. Messaging your death threats, spreading fake rumors, harassing your family. It took a toll on you. The fact that you weren't the most confident woman in the world didn't help with the situation, either. You were trying hard not to read them since you didn’t want your baby to feel any stress, but you couldn’t help yourself. You read every single threat and cried about it every single time.
That’s how Chris found you when he got back home. He met with his team about the situation, trying to protect you as much as possible. It hurt him a lot, too. To see that the love of his life and his baby were getting threats made him sick. He had one purpose in life: to protect both of you.
He saw you sitting on the couch, crying. His heart broke immediately. He felt tears building up in his eyes and slowly walked towards you.
“Honey, talk to me. Is everything okay?” He wanted to punch himself in asking you a question like that. Of course, everything was NOT okay. He broke his promise to you. He swore to protect you and the baby forever, and he failed. He failed as a partner and as a father.
You slowly looked him in the eye and saw him crying like you. You hugged him hard, burying yourself in his chest and wanting never to leave there. His heartbeat was the only thing that comforted you, the only thing that gave you a smile on your dark days. Nothing else could help you.
Until.
“Chris?”
He panicked a little when he heard your high-pitched voice. Millions of scenarios went through his head only 2 seconds after you said his name.
“What, what is it? Is it the baby? Is there something wrong? Do you want to go to the ho-” You stopped his talking by putting his hand on your swollen belly, and time stopped for Chris.
He saw your lips were moving, but he couldn’t hear a thing; everything went silent.
The baby kicked. The baby kicked for the first time. The miracle that both of you created just made a move, saying that it was living inside you.
Chris couldn’t control the laughter leaving his lips and the tears escaping his eyes. He looked at you and saw that you weren’t much different from him. You were smiling like crazy and crying your eyes out.
“I think our baby wants to kick the people that made mommy and daddy sad. Is that right, huh, bubba?” You slowly rubbed your belly, and Chris felt the baby kick harder.
“Wow, look at you, bubba, not even born and trying to protect your parents from the bad guys.” While keeping his hand on your belly, Chris looked at you and gave your lips a sweet, gentle kiss. When the two of you parted, he watched with so much adoration in his eyes, asking himself how lucky he got with you.
“What do you think about a trip, honey? Just me, you, and our little protector. I know these last days were hard on you and our little bubba, and I’m sorry. I just wished people could see how much I loved our little family, and I swear in my life that I will do everything in my power to protect both of you. I love you so much.”
Before answering, the baby kicked again and made Chris and you laugh hard.
“I think the baby just answered both of us. Just know that people will always talk, Chris. We decide whether or not to listen. Let's be honest, we didn’t handle the latest situation well, but that doesn’t mean it will always be like that. I love you and will always love and support every decision you make. Never leave us, and we will be more than okay.”
Yes, thought Chris. Everything will be okay, because there was no way he would ever leave you.

The little girl runs to where her father stands, “I feel like a science person!” The man looks down with a raised brow, “a sciencer?” The young girl says, confused before a light bulb goes off in her head, “scientist!” She jumps up and down, smiling, happy she found the right word, “a scientist” She gives a big toothy grin to her father, her front tooth missing, but her cuteness shines through.
The grown man grins, still with a raised brow. Chuckling as he responds, “sciencer”, laughs fall from his lips. The young girl shakes her head, folding her arms in front of her chest, “not my finest moment.”
“CUT!”
Chris bends down and picks up his daughter, “you were so good, sweetie.” A woman rushes over, grinning big before pinching her daughter's cheek. “Oh, baby! You were amazing!” She kisses her rosy red cheeks. The two adults stare at each other lovingly.
D/n shivers, “I’m cold,” she pouts, shivering violently. Chris quickly takes his thick raincoat off before placing it on his daughter. The size of her body against his coat, she disappears. Y/n looks at her daughter, holding back a laugh, “where’d you go, baby?” They hear a delightful giggle come from beneath the massive raincoat. Before little arms reach out and a small head pokes through, the parent's hearts are warm at the sight. Chris holds his daughter against him, rubbing his hands up and down her arms.
D/n opens her arms, wanting her mother as well, “Mumma cold,” Y/n smiles before moving close to her two worlds. She picks up her daughter before they both wrap their arms around their child. Love is shared between all three. Their daughter puts her head into Chris’s neck, and he places a kiss on her head before resting his cheek there, looking at his wife.
They smile at each other. Y/n leans over and places a kiss on his lips, “mummy?” Y/n looks down at the little child in their arms, “yes, bub?” her daughter's pink lips pout, “can we… can we get some coco on way home?” Chris’s heart warms watching the interaction, Y/n stroking her daughter’s cheek, pushing her hair out of her face before booping her little red nose. “Yeah, baby, we can get coco on the way home. Maybe even cuddle with dodge and watch Disney?”
D/n’s eyes widened, full of happiness, and her eyes started to sparkle from how happy she was. Rapidly nodding her head, “yes! Yes! Yes, please!” Both of her parents place big wet kisses on their daughter’s cheeks, listening to her little squeals.
The cast and crew were standing around, smiling at the sight, feeling warm inside from the love radiating off the little family.
Their little family holds each other, finding comfort in each other. Three little words are whispered between the couple before a small voice interrupts with her own.
“WUB YOU BOTH”

February 2021
The loud slapping of the white thick soled sneakers echoed against the tile floor as Nat rushed into the Pixar building. There wasn’t one person who was surprised to see the flash of the curly headed woman running by, making them all laugh as she kept running while attempting to keep her brown leather tote bag on her shoulder. Nat could see the elevator doors opening, making her yell from across the lobby of the building, “Hold that door!” as she picked up her pace, throwing out a hurried, “Hi Brenda!” to the receptionist on her way by.
Nat was thankful for someone holding the door open for her as she rushed inside like a tornado, happy to have a moment to catch her breath. But the moment that those doors opened, she was once again on the run down the long hallway to head toward the conference room. Of course out of all the days that she was late, it had to be today. Now that everyone was back after an extended period of working from home thanks to COVID, she had begun to get into a routine yet again, but apparently two weeks hadn’t quite been enough. She could see through the glass doors at the end of the hallway that her co-workers were already seated at the table for their first official daily meeting in person on the Lightyear film they were working on.
She tried to run even faster, getting to the conference room and trying to rush into the open doorway but quickly found out… the glass door wasn’t open. She felt like a bug on a windshield when she crashed right into it, the door rattling loudly to make sure everybody turned to look at her and wildly laugh as they saw her stumble backwards from the force. An unamused look appeared on her comically expressive face as she yanked open the door and came into the room where she flopped her bag down on the table and practically fell into her chair.
“Well now we all are well aware that Nat’s here,” she heard Angus, the director, chuckle from where he sat at the head of the table, near the large TV screen. She rolled her eyes playfully as she dug around in her brown leather tote, reaching for her laptop, water bottle, and notepad.
But next to her, Jamie laughed, leaning back in his seat and responding, “Yeah and so does that door with the imprint of her face on it.”
“Well someone has to be the fun one around here,” she shrugged, a smirk on her face as she moved her tote bag to the ground ungracefully, and Nat found herself thankful that she had the forethought to actually use her laptop case this morning for its intended purpose, instead of just shoving it into her bag like usual.
Mark, from where he was sitting across from her, his broad frame outlined by the bright morning light shining in through the floor to ceiling windows. “I didn’t realize that smashing your face into a glass door was fun,” he pointed out unhelpfully.
“How would you know? Have you tried it?”
Jamie huffed out a laugh, his eyes moving between the two until he finally asked her, “So what’s going to be the convoluted story as to why you’re late?”
“Oh this is a good one, you guys will like this.”
“Wait before you get into this, Nat, I want you to meet Chris Evans who’s going to be voicing Buzz for us,” Angus interrupted, his hand moving in the air between Chris and Nat. She hadn’t even realized there was someone else in the room, certainly not an A-list celebrity, practical Disney legend, and a handsome one at that, which most of America would be able to recognize in two seconds flat. “And Chris, this is Natalie Marton, our lead character designer for Buzz.”
He gave her a kind smile, hands fidgeting in his lap restlessly. “It’s nice to meet you Natalie, your work is incredible,” he greeted, the compliment coming as a surprise to her.
“Thank you, it’s nice to meet you too,” she replied, shooting him a quick smile before she turned back to Mark, James, and Angus – this time also including Chris – with an excited look on her face. “But you might want to buckle up because I’m about to explain why I was late and can’t tell a short story.”
“Are we going to roll our eyes at the end of this story, Nat?” Mark muttered playfully, earning a soft kick to his shin from Nat.
“Probably, but it actually makes sense when you think about it,” she nearly snorted, straightening up in her seat, her arms waving in the air as she spoke. “So I went outside this morning to grab a package in front of the door but I got locked out of my apartment when I did. My purse, phone and everything else still was inside and so I was trying to figure out what to do. Then I remembered I left the window on the second floor open but I couldn’t reach it so then I saw my neighbors had their patio furniture–”
“Oh no, I already know this is going to end badly,” Jamie groaned, the rest of the group laughing at his words knowingly.
“You don’t know that!”
Angus chuckled, unable to help himself as he chimed in, “I’m pretty sure we all do but you might as well finish at this point.”
“Okay so anyway I drug the patio furniture over, climbed up on it and hoisted myself up through the window and I was in. Then I changed my clothes, grabbed my keys and got here,” she told them, smirking as she pulled her water bottle, notebook, and computer out of her bag. “All things considered, I think I made pretty good time.”
They all couldn’t help but snicker, not even being phased by another story from Nat to start their day before the group began shifting gears to begin the meeting, each employee pulling up their notes and sketches as Angus prepared to start on their agenda. But Nat was a little surprised when a deep voice spoke up from the corner, Chris’ face a bit hesitant as he asked, “I do have a question about this story.”
But before he could ask, Jamie looked at Chris with a smirk, informing him, “Obviously you’re new here because with Nat, you’ll learn never to ask questions, just go with it and pretend that it’s normal.”
“Well you already started asking so you might as well finish,” Nat encouraged, waving a hand in the air before she reached back, tucking a few stray curls back behind her ear.
“Okay, so why didn’t you just go ask your landlord to unlock your door for you?”
“....Oh… I guess that would have been easier, yeah,” she trailed off, a frown on her face before she let out a short laugh, realizing how much easier her day would have started had she just thought that far before springing into action.
“And that’s why we don’t ask questions because what’s logical in our brains is pretty much the opposite for Nat,” Mark chimed in, earning nods from Jamie and Angus, and a look of understanding – and amusement – from Chris.
“Speaking of Nat’s ideas though, Nat why don’t you show Chris your sketches of the character studies of Buzz? I’d like to get his opinion,” Angus offered, looking at Nat expectantly.
“Yeah, I think I have them with me actually,” she began, pausing as she dug in her tote bag. She could feel everyone’s eyes on her, suddenly aware of the piercing gaze of Chris’ eyes watching her every move as she rifled through empty gum wrappers, various mascaras, too many pairs of sunglasses, and no less than three different wallets before she found the folder containing the sketches. “Oh yeah, here they are.”
She stood up, shuffling over to Angus to hand over the stack of sketches. She turned quickly, heading back to her seat just as he handed a few over to Chris. It didn’t matter that she’d been in this business for eleven years, handing over a piece of her work that she poured her heart and soul into to be critiqued never seemed to get any easier, especially when she was handing it over to someone who wasn’t even trained in illustration. She knew her sketches were good, she’d been in this role for years and had learned everything she knew from the best in the business, but she was still nervous for his critiques. Chris was a huge part of this movie’s production, and had been since day one. He was the only pick they made for the role of Buzz, Angus and the others unable to see anyone else in the role but Chris. It all revolved around him, and she knew that his voice carried weight, knowing that his critiques would be something she’d have to fully absorb.
He stared at each page for a long time, his blue eyes wide with something she couldn’t quite name yet. But when he looked up, meeting her eyes, she recognized the shock – and awe – in them. “Wow, these are… incredible,” he breathed, eyes flitting back down to stare at the sketches again. “Just seeing these makes me so excited for this movie. ”
“Do you think this has enough resemblance to the toy?” She asked curiously, shifting nervously. “We want to make it feel different but still have that same feel.”
He gave a sheepish look, his cheeks pink as he admitted, “Oh uh, I don’t know that I’m qualified for that. You guys are the experts, not me.”
The honesty in his eyes as he looked at her made Nat realize that he wasn’t just another one of the celebrities who would make a guest appearance in a meeting, take a short tour, and then be gone by lunchtime never to be seen again. He was obviously engaged in the project, truly valuing their skill and even seeming to be a little bit in awe of it which warmed Nat’s heart. Part of her had been dreading Chris becoming more involved now that they all were back in-person, but all of that seemed laid to rest as she realized that he would be a true creative partner and only make the film better.
“But just as a consumer, what do you think?” She prodded, tilting her head as she looked at him.
“Honestly? I think they’re incredible,” he admitted with a shrug, the action unintentionally taking a weight off of Nat’s shoulders. “I also just realized that we’ve never seen the hair before.”
Angus, Mark, and Jamie all smiled and chuckled at the words, relieved looks on everyone’s faces. Angus cleared his throat, mentioning, “That was what Nat pointed out when we started this too. Nat, you should tell Chris what you said about the hair.”
“Well I just felt that in this movie we need to see things about Buzz that we didn’t see in Toy Story because this is the real person, not the toy and one of those was his hair. I also felt like it helped to humanize him more,” she recalled, shrugging a bit with a small grin as she watched Chris stare down at the pages, unable to take his eyes off of the sketches – the sketches that she did.
“I love that, it’s such a smart way to help people connect,” Chris praised. “You guys are seriously amazing in what you do. This is all just so incredible to me and I feel so lucky to be part of it.”
She laughed through the rest of the meeting, unable to help herself from making a few quips in between jotting down some notes of things to change or do later. As the meeting came to a close, Angus told her, “Nat, I’m going to be going over a few things with Chris and then he’s going to start reading some test lines in the booth so you can go with him to work on expression.”
“Alright, just let me know when you’re ready,” she told the pair before she gathered her belongings and quickly left the room, heading down the hallway to her office.
It’d been nearly a year since she spent more than a quick few minutes in her office, most of her time since being back in person being spent in meetings or working collectively in the wide spaces throughout the building. But as she looked around her office, she saw the tiny bits and pieces of how life was like prior to the shutdown, from the neatly folded blanket – one she loved – on top of the long couch against the wall, to the now old pictures of her nieces and nephew from years prior, to the picture that surprised her, sitting next to her computer. She’d forgotten entirely about it, and in the midst of the chaos of 2020, had never had the time to switch it out until now. But here she was, a year later, staring as her own face smiled up at her from next to her now ex-fiance, Shane, standing in front of the Seahawks Stadium in Seattle together back in 2018, cheeks red from the winter chill.
She’d have never known then, three years ago, that it’d all come crashing down on them just as the world began to fall apart. That she’d glance down at her hand, sometimes half-expecting to still see the band around her finger, then suddenly remember that he’d decided to throw it all away.
With a shake of her head, she flipped the picture frame over, pulling out the years-old, sun-faded picture of them and shoving it, along with the frame, in a random drawer of her desk. She had just closed the drawer when Angus knocked on her open door. He was smiling at her, and just over his shoulder was Chris, standing with his hands in his pockets looking around curiously before he looked at Nat, a sheepish look on his face as he realized she’d been watching him. Once she looked back at Angus, he asked her, “You ready Nat?”
“Yeah, let me just grab my stuff, hold on,” she told them, spinning around in her chair as she began grabbing various things – a few snacks, her notebook, sketchpad, pencil set, various colored pens, her iPad, water bottle, her work ID, and her wallet, just in case she stopped by the commissary after the session for some lunch.
“Nat, we’re just going to the sound booth, you don’t need to pack for a month in Europe,” Angus muttered playfully as he watched Nat flitter around her desk, piling anything she could in her arms before she tucked the water bottle between her arm and her side.
“But what if I need something that I forgot? I might as well just bring it now!”
Angus shook his head, holding the door open as he waited for her. Chris peered around him, his voice quiet but he generously asked, “Can I help carry anything, Natalie?”
“Are you trying to say it looks like I’m going to drop something?” Nat asked sarcastically as she made her way over to the door, pausing as Chris nodded with a smirk. “Because I definitely am, so if you could grab my water bottle, that’d be great. It’s starting to slip. Oh and that cardigan on the chair right there maybe.”
“Sure,” Chris answered, grabbing the bottle and gently pulling the cardigan off the chair. “Anything else?”
“I think I’ve got the rest, but thank you,” she told him sincerely, slowly making her way into the hallway as they headed down the hall.
“So Chris we’ll just go over to the sound booth and you can practice some lines and listen to them back and Nat will just sketch while you’re doing that and get down some of your facial expressions,” Angus explained to both of them. “I think- oh sorry, hold on.”
They continued heading towards the elevators as Angus pulled out his ringing phone, glancing at the name and grimacing slightly.
“Is it important?” Nat asked as they paused in front of the elevators.
“Yeah, I do need to take this call,” Angus sighed apologetically. He glanced between the pair, asking, “Why don’t you two head over to the booth and I’ll meet you over there in just a few minutes?”
They both easily agreed, stepping into the waiting elevator together and leaving Angus to his phone call. As the elevator began heading towards the ground floor, she glanced at Chris, asking, “So Chris, I’m interested to know what made you want to do Lightyear?”
“Honestly? Everything,” he chuckled, a wide grin on his face. “I’m a huge Disney and Pixar nerd-”
“Are you really?”
“Oh yeah, my family always went to Walt Disney World growing up and still do to be honest, but I just grew up on Disney. I actually wanted to be an animator when I grew up.”
“Sounds like you might just be trying to brown nose me with that comment,” she laughed, Chris joining in.
“It might be a little more dignified if I was, but no I seriously wanted to be an animator but turns out I’m shit at drawing so that didn’t go well,” he laughed again, the grimace on his face cluing Nat into his skill level.  “But yeah, I just love everything Disney and I adore all the Toy Story films. My team was so excited to tell me about this opportunity because they knew I’d just be over the moon.”
“I’m glad you got an opportunity to get to do something like this,” she told him, “Because obviously being Captain America for a decade wasn’t enough.”
“Honestly I was way more excited for this than I ever was for Cap when I started,” he admitted as they stepped out of the elevator, heading outside to walk across the campus. “I feel like a kid in a candy store here.”
She couldn’t help herself once they stepped out the front doors, nodding her head towards the building housing the coffee shop, cafeteria, and other amenities for the employees, informing Chris, “Well lucky for you there is a candy store in the commissary.”
He laughed loudly at her answer, the sound sharp in comparison to the birds chirping around them. “So Natalie, what about you? How long have you been with Pixar?”  He finally asked, looking at her curiously.
“This is my eleventh year here,” she supplied, meeting his eyes with a smile. “And you can also call me Nat, everyone does.”
“That’s incredible. How did you ever get started here? I’ve always wondered how people get to this level.”
“I’ve just always loved art and wanted to do something artistic. I’m kind of the black sheep of my family in that way and my dad was always a dreamer who just encouraged me to follow my heart. He put me in art classes and then I went to art school for college,” she rambled with a shrug. “One of my professors there had a connection to Pixar and got me some interviews and sure enough, I ended up here and have been here ever since.”
He nodded, listening along enthusiastically and keeping up with her rambles. “I can’t imagine how amazing it must be to come here every day for work,” he said once she’d finally shut up, Nat smiling wistfully at his simple confession.
“It really is. I feel so lucky to be doing this,” she agreed. Every day of work on these movies felt like a dream, something that could be taken away in a blink of an eye, as if she finally woke up. It’d been over a decade, but that feeling still remained day in and day out. “I basically draw characters for a living and that’s something eight year old Nat wouldn’t believe.”
“I understand that,” he nodded, truly knowing what that was like with his profession. “So what are some of the other Pixar movies you’ve worked on?”
“Before Lightyear I worked a little bit on Soul and then before that I was the lead designer for Disgust on Inside Out-”
“NO!” He interrupted, his voice loud as she led him to the front doors of the recording building. “That’s one of my favorite movies! Disgust is my favorite character, hands down.”
She laughed, swiping her ID and unlocking the doors. “Well all I can say is you’re welcome,” she told him, just before she thanked him as he opened the door for her and followed her inside.
“Seriously though, my nephews, niece and I watch that together so much. It’s so deep and teaches a lot, but still just has that Disney magic. Disgust is the show stealer though. My niece one day wore a little scarf like Disgust has and called it her sassy scarf.”
Nat huffed out a laugh, waving to the guards sitting at the desk before she led Chris down a hall, her voice dropping to an appropriate level in the quiet building as she said, “Well you can thank my overstuffed closet for that because I just looked through all my clothes and thought, what would Disgust pick and my brain told me it was that.”
“I’m glad it did because Disgust is the best character in that movie,” Chris replied, his head practically on a swivel as he looked around the new building while he tried to keep up with her, both verbally and physically.
“Okay now I know you’re trying to brown nose me,” she chuckled quietly, just before she nudged open a door, smiling as she saw Rob inside, sitting at the desk ready for them.
With an encouraging nod and smile to Chris, Nat headed to sit at the long desk in the middle of the room facing the glass window of the booth. As she began arranging her supplies, thanking Chris as he handed her the water bottle and cardigan, she saw a flash of nervousness cross his face just before he stepped into the booth. He was staring down the microphone, nodding as he listened to Rob’s simple instructions. The man was standing in the doorway to the booth, telling Chris to slip the headphones on before he shut the heavy door.
Rob shot her a slight grimace, the pair knowing the first few run throughs would likely be rough, before he plopped into the chair, waiting as Chris got himself situated and took a sip from the water bottle that was in the booth. Nat pulled out her charcoal pencil, flipping open her sketchbook and started dragging the pencil across the paper, blocking out the shape of his face before the slight squeak of the pencil on the paper echoed as she kept adding in the finer details of his expression and face.
Chris shook his limbs out slightly before he began speaking, his voice stronger than what she’d come to expect after the last hour they’d spent together. She noted the way he moved his eyebrows as he read the lines on the paper in front of him. He read the iconic “To infinity….” line, then paused as he cringed slightly and looked up, finding Nat’s eyes watching him and asking, “Was that as terrible as I think it was?”
Rob turned on their microphone inside, allowing Nat to ask, “....How terrible do you think it was?” while biting her lip to hide an amused smile.
“I think that answers my question.”
Rob laughed, interrupting their shared smirks as he instructed, “Just do it as many times as you want, Chris. I’ll just record it all and then you can come listen to it.”
She tilted her head back down, propping her chin up with her hand while she kept working on sketching from observation, studying his face as she drew and Nat couldn’t help but admire what a beautiful face it was. She’d buried herself in her work ever since the break up with Shane a year ago, distracting herself with the piles of drawings to complete before moving onto the next round of edits, and while it served its purpose, she was all too aware of what she didn’t have. And it was all because of her. The few fleeting chances she’d had with anyone since Shane had fizzled out before they moved beyond texting, the guys all uninterested in putting up with her ways. Shane dealt with her in the same way everyone before him had, by smiling and nodding when she needed it and sympathizing on a surface level when it was required, but never truly understanding her. Nat knew she was a lot to handle, not necessarily being the most low-key girl, and she’s long given up on the notion that someone would appreciate her, but at thirty-three years old she became more and more aware that the notion of someone being in love with her was just as unattainable.
But now she was alone, having fucked up every chance she’d held in the palm of her hand, ruining them one after the other. Her destiny seemed to be set on the loner artist type, despite how much she craved more in life, and who was she to mess with that? She figured it was about time to just make peace with it, instead focusing all her efforts into the wonderful friendships and her family, and Nat knew that she could be okay with that.
Just because she knew a relationship wasn’t in the cards for her though doesn’t mean she didn’t notice what was around her, and it was pretty impossible not to notice the gorgeous man who stood only a few feet away from her in the sound booth… she was thirty-three, not dead. But Nat chose in her mind to leave it at that, knowing that they’d be working together quite a bit more, and instead redirected her brain to the work in front of her as she kept sketching.
She sat in that same chair, diligently working for the rest of the morning as she listened to Chris running over the lines time and time again, Angus giving pointers along the way before he was eventually let out of the padded booth. Nat just kept to herself as they went over notes from the session, just letting her charcoal pencil keep scraping across the fibers of the paper until she heard her voice being called.
“Nat, are you ready to go?”
“Hmm?” She hummed, looking up to find Angus and Chris staring at her expectantly. “Oh yeah, let me just grab my stuff,” she hurriedly replied, a slight blush warming her cheeks as she shoved her things together, hastily standing up.
Once Nat had begun gathering her things, Angus turned to Chris and asked, “So Chris, you’re planning on coming to the dailies right?”
“Yeah, I have a few weeks before I have to do anything for The Gray Man, that Russo Brothers movie I was telling you about, so I’m planning on coming until then,” she heard Chris’ booming voice answer, a smile evidently on his face as he paused and chuckled. “I’m pretty sure this is going to be my favorite project ever.”
“Well we’ll be glad to have you anytime that you can come.”
“I’ll plan on seeing you tomorrow,” Chris told him, and he turned to look at Nat with a small smirk once she was finished collecting her things, his expression amused as she came to a stop in front of the men. “And Nat, it was very nice to meet you. You certainly know how to make a first impression.”
“Oh crashing into the door? Honestly you’re not even the only person I’ve met that way,” she laughed back, rolling her eyes playfully as she shifted the heavy load in her arms.
His shoulders slouched and a small frown settled on his lips, Chris’ eyes bright as he sighed, “Damn, I thought I was a little bit special.”
“Just wait until she spills something on you or breaks something of yours, then you’ll be in the special circle,” Angus laughed as he squeezed Chris’ shoulder gently and began leading the pair towards the door.
They parted ways at the front door of the recording building, Chris heading towards the parking structures to leave, Angus leaving to go to a meeting elsewhere on campus, while Nat headed back to her office. Her walk back was much lonelier than the walk to the studio with Chris had been, but soon she was thrown into a flurry of work, keeping her mind distracted for the rest of the day.
She’d just left work, merging onto the 405 to head back to her apartment in San Fernando, just as a call from her older sister, Alex, came through on her Bluetooth. With a sigh as she rolled to a stop as she hit the sea of bumper-to-bumper traffic, Nat answered the call.
Alex didn’t even let Nat get in a greeting before she asked her younger sister, “Hey, do you have a minute?”
“Yeah I’m just leaving work and traffic fucking sucks so I’ve got nothing to do,” she laughed, only slightly bitterly. But she straightened up, remembering that today had been momentous for Alex and her family back home in Kirkland and belatedly asked, “How was Carson’s first day of preschool?”
“Oh he loved it, I swear he didn’t want to come home, I’ll send you some pictures later,” her sister chuckled, the sound comforting to Nat as she slowly rolled the car forwards before coming to a complete stop again. “I actually had another reason for calling though.”
She smirked, leaning back in her seat comfortably as she got settled for a long drive home. “Because you love me?” Nat asked her sister sarcastically.
“Obviously that’s not the reason,” Alex laughed back. “Okay seriously though, I had to call you because Zach just showed me on his instagram that Shane posted that he got engaged.”
“Engaged?” Nat asked, her brows furrowed as she paused, her brain practically short-circuiting. “Wait, Shane got engaged? Like, today?”
“Apparently,” Alex answered, and Nat’s heart dropped at the confirmation. It didn't hurt any less that she was – essentially – the one who’d broken up with him, but regardless, she’d lost a relationship she valued, and the man she’d thought was it for her. “I guess it’s some European girl he met over there.”
“Well he certainly didn’t waste any time moving on,” Nat muttered. As much as it hurt, she almost wasn’t surprised. She knew that Shane would move on, easily finding someone else he’d commit to in a way he never would with her, but it only reinforced in her mind that she was the problem in relationships.
“I know, I couldn’t believe it. I wish I hadn’t already blocked him so that I could block him again.” She could hear the annoyance in her sister’s voice.
“Yeah.”
“Nattie, are you okay?” Nat sighed, her lip jutting out as she moved the car forwards a bit. She hated how Alex could always read her feelings so easily. “I didn’t mean to upset you by telling you this, but I felt like you needed to know.”
“No, I’m glad you told me,” she said, her voice even in an attempt to display faux-casualness. “I guess it just hurts that we were together for five years and he wouldn’t even talk about getting married, but then he meets some girl and in less than a year he’s engaged. I always thought he just didn’t want to get married, but I guess he just didn’t want to get married to me,” she shrugged, her voice quiet. And it was just another case of proof that, no matter how much time she spent with someone, it’d all be for nothing. Someone else would eventually come along, someone they’d realize was far better and easier to put up with than herself, and she’d be left alone, just like how she’d been left every time.
“Oh Nattie, no. Don’t go down that road. Shane and you just didn’t work out and that’s fine. You can officially wash your hands of him and be done with that,” she heard Alex’s firm voice, trying to prevent her little sister from spiraling down an emotional hole.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Nat was glad that nobody could see the way she was rubbing her hands over her face before staring mindlessly at the miles of traffic in front of her.
She was hoping that Alex would change the subject, just letting the subject that was full of sadness drop, but Nat wasn’t in the mood for her next question, “Have you been able to meet anyone lately?”
“Honestly Alex, I don’t know if I will,” she surprised herself by the even tone in her voice, knowing that this was a sore subject for her but something she was beginning to make peace with. “I’m not trying to be dramatic or whatever, I just don’t think that’s really in the cards for me and I’m okay with that.”
“You never know what might happen, Nat. Something may pop up when you least expect it,” Alex tried to encourage her, but it fell on deaf ears.
“We’ll see,” Nat muttered, before changing the subject, not wanting to linger on the subject any further and instead asking, “So how is everyone? How’s dad?”
“Dad’s been obsessed with those two chickens he got last week. You know how many pictures he’s sent in the group text? Well at least you only get that, he printed us out pictures and gave them to us,” Alex muttered with a laugh in her voice, Nat being able to picture the way she was rolling her eyes right about now. For their entire life, Nat had a special bond, the two of them being more of a creative and dreamer personality which had provided some interesting decisions in the eyes of the other two Marton daughters, the most recent being their dad’s obsession with his new chickens.
“Well Matilda and Erwin are part of the family now, you can’t exclude them!” The joyful tone that was normally found in Nat’s voice appeared once again as she argued.
“I should have known you’d be on dad’s side,” her sister muttered playfully but then told Nat that, “He’s really excited to come see you soon. He printed out his plane ticket and keeps it on the fridge so he can see it everyday.”
“I can’t wait to see him,” a wistfulness was in her voice, wanting nothing more than a hug from her family right now. “I really miss you guys.”
“We miss you too Nattie, but we’ll see you when you facetime in for our monopoly game tomorrow,” she tried to cheer her up before telling Nat that, “I need to go pick up Carson from preschool but I’ll talk to you later. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
Once the call had ended, Nat adjusted her body in the seat of her car, inching along the road through the traffic feeling a heavy weight on her. She knew that her and Shane were long over, but hearing how quickly he had moved on told her that it wasn’t that he didn’t want to commit, he just didn’t want to commit to her. The pain of that reinforced the realization she’d recently had that she just wasn’t the type of girl to be in a relationship.
Before she could think any farther, a ding interrupted her thoughts, making her reach over and grab her phone off of the passenger seat. Once she came to a stop in the traffic again, she looked at the screen to see a text from Angus reading, ‘Chris texted me and wanted to pass along another thank you for all your help today, and for making him feel so welcome. He really appreciated it.’ She blushed at the text, straightening up as she realized how much not only Chris, but Mark, Jamie, Angus, and every other person working on this project valued her. And she realized that as long as her coworkers were in her corner, supporting her through each and every day, she’d have a place she belonged, a safe place to come back to. She may not have her person, but she had her people.
A/N: WE could not WAIT to share Nat with you guys! We've been working on her for a little over two months now and have really enjoyed getting to take our time and make sure the chapters are great.... and you guys, they're so good. We really could not be happier with how things have shaken out and cannot wait for the NEXT chapter on 12/1!
