The lineup 💪 (about half my Ninjago ocs, as of dragons rising) from left to right, Two-Worlds (she/her), Chloe (she/her), Alcyo (he/him), and Elapis (he/they).

Two-Worlds is a hent (speculative etymological ninjagan term for amphicyonids, aka bear-dogs… google em, they’re pretty cool and not extinct in the Ninjago universe in my mind palace/hc zone) hailing from my friend’s fan-realm called Creatura. She’s not actually supposed to be in a humanoid form, it was artificially induced via magic. Her true form is much larger and much more quadrupedal like other creaturans (who just look like oversized, strangely colored but otherwise normal animals). She prefers this form though because she was raised in Ninjago around exclusively humans and got some body dysmorphia out of it… and as for why she’s a cowboy, it’s because she felt like it. She’s been wandering the merged lands searching for her scattered friends and family.

Chloe is a Fangpyre serpentine, and she looks pretty lizard-y because for some reason Fangpyre are more monitor lizard-ish than snake-ish in my head. She’s got special interests in pop culture and history, particularly human pop culture and ways in which human and serpentine history interact. Girlie is like a walking archive. Since the merge she’s been wanting to digitize and transcribe what remains of non-digitized archives and libraries, as the merge has made her all the more aware of how often natural disasters can destroy physical/recorded history. She’s pretty thrilled that Lloyd’s letting her digitize/transcribe scrolls in the monastery.

Alcyo is a master of an element i Made The Fuck Up for fun: mist. It’s a running gag that ppl (including him way back when) hear there’s elements of smoke and mist and go “…what’s the difference?” lmao. He’s no fighter, but still wanted help/training to use his element, and that’s how he knew Ash. He’s a geosciences guy like me and has been freaking out over . Well. Everything (lol he inspired that post) since the merge. He’s been getting together with ppl like him from across the merged realms (that is, geosci, eco, etc ppl who are as alarmed as he is) in order to document all the shit going on with the planet now as well as try to plan remediation efforts. I imagine governments have been a bit hesitant to work with a rogue group of jittery sleep deprived scientists but they (Alcyo’s ppl) try. I imagine they are the ones making the new maps and shit like that as well. He just wants to go back to his old day jobs and see Ash again. Sorry buddy, you can only have one of those back lmao

Elapis is a hypnobrai who’s been friends with Chloe since childhood. They’re significantly more jaded and pessimistic than she is but they’ve always appreciated her encouragement to pursue music. He probably knows how to play quite a few instruments but he’s usually That Asshole With A Guitar in my brain lmao. He likes learning about other peoples as much as Chloe does though (albeit through music scenes rather than reading) which is why the two became friends. He doesn’t know where she’s gone since the merge and hopes he can see her again one day. He’s found her siblings but not her, and it’s been pretty frustrating. Other than that, they’ve passed the time by jamming with all sorts of people at the Crossroads. Arin and Sora might have seen them around, performing.

their topic of conversation had been one that had been coming up for years now. they were always searching, always trying to find ways to escape. since jefferson's arrest, the urgency had taken on a few meaning, become more real than just teenage dreams. even her own mother had been treating her differently, helping her research jobs and taking on shifts to gift chloe some money for their inevitable journey.

here's an idea: beca and chloe are dating, but they have to live on opposite coasts for the time being (beca in LA and chloe in NYC) . they talk all the time but chloe starts avoiding facetimes, only going for regular calls, in order to hide that she's depressed, not just because she misses beca, but because life is pretty overwhelming. she thinks she's putting on a good show in front of beca, and then one day out of nowhere chloe wakes up to beca having released the song outnumbered (by dermot kennedy) and a box of her favorite chocolates waiting on her doorstep. when she finally manages to call beca, while still sobbing, beca just goes "i can't be there in person, so i figured this is the least i could do"

It was on the fifth try that Beca finally spoke on the other end; not the fifth time because she didn’t pick up, but because Chloe had been too busy blinking through her tears to properly rid her phone of the results of said emotional outpour.

How had she known?

She must’ve said those words out loud, because Beca immediately answered.

“I just know, Chloe. Your usual shine even through a call these days has been dull. Not to say that it’s not okay- it is, it’s just… it makes me so sad and heartbroken to see, to feel, you that way. And well- I can’t be there in person to try and make you feel better, so I figured this is the least I could do.”

Chloe’s voice was so hoarse and dry from the sobbing but she pushed to make it work. “By releasing that song? Beca- I- I don’t think that is the least you could do. It’s such a beautiful lyric, so well done and well made, and the biggest most fullest possible thing you could have done to try to pull me out of my depression. I-“ She hiccuped, unable to continue on.

“I know. I miss you too, baby.”

Chloe collapsed on the carpet. She laid her head back, closing her eyes as she listened to the raw melody still echoing in her brain. The box of her favorite chocolates sat unattended and unopened but not forgotten by her feet, new and hopeful when the rest of Chloe’s will was not.

Chloe breathed, however shallowly. Her therapist told her once that the best thing to do sometimes when she was feeling like this- when she was feeling like she was suffocating under the pressure of it all- was to breathe, and to remind herself constantly that there was not a single person worth stressing for if they can not even allow her that one simple reprieve. Lately the pressure of just going through everyday life- just one day at a time- was too much, and the fact that Beca was on the other end of the American coast was not faring well for her ability to do so in such overwhelming times.

It wasn’t so much the distance that got to her as the helpless feel that if Chloe ever got to the point of no return, Beca would not be there to catch her fall.

Now, however, Chloe could tell that Beca would always find a way. Even with thousands of miles separating them apart with nothing but telephone lines connecting them, Beca had noticed that her tone was off, that her laugh was fake, and that she needed help; consolation.

How did she ever come to have such an amazing observant human being as her partner?

“Yeah, I’m here.” She sniffled, wiped her nose against the back of her hand. “And I still love you, a crazy insane amount, even when you went and did all that stuff that you didn’t have or were expected to do.”

Beca’s chuckle was warm in its settling in the center of Chloe’s chest. “Well I love you too, dork. Fight on for me, okay?”

The gentility of her request is made all the more caring in the repetition of the lyrics still playing through Chloe’s mind.
