rewatching atla and yknow it really is such a shame that the same writers and creators betrayed the ethos and pathos of their own show with legend of korra
i really wish we had gotten to see more older aang in korra, even as just flashbacks would've been fine. but it just would've been nice to see the older gaang interacting as friends, during a peaceful time, when all of them have only known war previously.
and yeah, i know they published comics but it would've been fun to see it animated. them trying to navigate their feelings when they finally feel safe enough to do so. aang especially coming to terms with the fact that his people were genocided and that he's one of the last air nomads (but possibly not the last, last airbender, but certainly the last of his specific culture. more on that in a moment)
and if they had done it thru flashbacks, they could've paralleled those times of peace (but maybe interpersonal drama) with whatever they wanted to do with korra that required the avatar. (and i say it like that purposefully bc i still don't know if i understand what they were trying to achieve with the over-arching narrative of korra)
it feels like they were so afraid of not being able to raise the stakes, they completely forgot what atla was even about.
the thing i think that gets me the most is the fact that instead of finding a better way to integrate air benders back into the world, like say, since they were, oh idk, nomadic, they just decided to randomly make people air benders all of a sudden through oriental mysticism.
instead of smth like, it turns out that a lot of little sects of air benders exist in the wider world of atla bc the air benders were, famously, nomadic. they're literally called air nomads. the writers remember what nomad means right?
like the sandbenders in atla. yes, they demonstrably bend sand. BUT, as my friend @justletmeremember has pointed out, they use tornados of sand to power their ships in the desert. that requires some amount of air bending!
not only that, but the air benders were the way they were bc of their culture, not the other way around. like sure, air bending probably informed some of their choices and culture. but their culture is what made them who the wider world of atla know them as. so to make random air benders just Exist in lok completely disregards and betrays that culture.
they didn't need to remake the air nomads' exact culture. but their culture, alongside evironment, should have informed the writers who they wanted the next air benders to be. i mean, i think there's a crucial reason the air nomads were nomads, monks and pacifists, and the writers lost that reason in lok.
and that's one of the main cruxes of my problem with lok. the writers/creators made aang the last air bender, literally had his people genocided, and didn't understand or even examine what that meant when writing lok.

why is it so hard to put things into words LMAO
i’m trying to write about sculk and like. ough.
anyway so ermm. i think that sculk has a moss like texture. a lot softer than you’d expect it to be, though.
and i also like to think that even when a mob doesn’t die near a sculk catalyst, that the sculk is still growing. like. not fast enough to change other blocks or anything, but fast enough to where it a player were to step on it/walk across it, then there would be little specks of sculk that would like. travel up their shoes or something. nothing enough to cause any permanent damage, other than maybe leaving a stain (think getting black sharpie on your clothes).
i think that because you find it in caves, it would just have like. a damp smell to them. and also i think if you were to eat it, it would taste and have the physics or whatever of cotton candy (tastes being specifically the blue one).
and i know that i’ve mentioned this in a previous post about sculk that i made forever ago that sculk could be a good block to use to make a night sky or something, and how i like to headcanon that it absorbs light, and to be honest that still stands lol. maybe the more sculk there is, the more light is absorbed. it always just feels more dark whenever i’m in an ancient city.
i think i’m going to make a post about how i think sculk would affect the player, and maybe then i’ll have more of my thoughts about sculk organized lmao

the more i read mdzs the more i’m convinced that 1) cql is an amazing adaptation, yes, even with the
Č̸̡̦͚̿͌ḙ̴̢̟̲͙̝̙̬̤̪̜̓̇͋̍̌̇͜͝͝n̵̨̰̞͖̲͓̫̲̦̜͈̖̈́̅̒̇̓͋̔͒͋s̵̡͎̰̼͓̣̖̊̈́̐͋͊̈́̋͛̓̽̄̚̕̕ͅö̸̡͚̯͍̬͎̰̘̪́̉̒̋͛̎̃̽̀͘͘͝ͅŗ̷̛͚͚̫̪̞̟̝̹̹̞̝̌̈̈́̂͗͛̓̒̓͆̌͊̑̏͋̕͜s̶̘̙͕̪̖̼̖̤̿͐͌̈́͌͘̕ḥ̶̡̛͖͔̪̰͕̮̱̀̓́̅̓̃̇̓̃̚͝i̴̫̟̜̻̻̪͑p̵̘̗̞͓͎̖͈̝̾̉̏͛́̾̈
and 2) that they queercoded that shit like the fucking cirque du soleil
i just got to the part when wei wuxian rescues the remaining wen clan members in the novel, and compared to cql i think it’s, dare i say, better in cql
adding lan wangji confronting wei wuxian as he’s leading them off?
having wei wuxian say “if i’m to die, i want it to be by your hands”??
having lan wangji step aside despite everything that tells him not to (society, the lan clan rules, his principles)???
like how can you watch that and not think that’s gay??? hello???
where’s that tweet again? ah yes

the next time i see someone blaming china or russia for homegrown homophobia it's an automatic block from me
please go look up what homonationalism is
and since the reading comprehension on this site is piss poor, here's my obligatory disclaimer: i'm not saying the russian gov or ccp aren't homophobic, they are. it's just also incredibly xenophobic/racist to state that your fave u.s. show not having explicitly queer characters in it is bc They want to market to russia and china, rather than plain ol' u.s. homophobia
the call is coming from inside the house. so before you try and solve russia and china's homophobia why don't you focus all that effort and energy into doing something that would actually benefit the queer people in your community

s1ep20 guitar villain
it was fine. the pacing seemed okay, if not just a bit fast. like1.5 speed. i think it's very funny on u.s.'s part to release pixelator and then guitar villain. bc in pixelator we end with jagged stone playing a song dedicated to ladybug for saving his life against an akuma. and in the very next episode, jagged stone is getting akumatized.
anyway something i forgot to mention that i was thinking about in the last episode was the fact that "the power of love" in miraculous ladybug is about romantic love between the love square. and i think that was a HUGE mistake on the creator's part. like first of all, you can't call yourself a sailor moon fan if you don't get that the power of love mainly refers to her love for her friends, and that's what saves the day. like that's literally a trope in that genre! the power of love and friendship!! how could he get that so wrong???
like of course usagi loves mamoru and the other way around, but like did the creator even notice that every time she asks for strength and power, it mainly comes from her friends and fellow sailor scouts? like obviously mamoru being there as a support system is very important to her, and adds to her power, but her friends and fellow scouts are always there first.
this is a tangent, but related, but there are two versions of the miraculous ladybug theme song and it always bothered me that chat noir's lines just completely changed from the first version we heard:
from it's ladybug version (first version)
They look at me and think I'm cool
I'm Cat Noir, at night I rule
My ring is charged with energy
My claws are out, just watch and see
from miraculous version (finalized version)
I am a cat
Just chilling out
But in the night, she's all I think about
I feel so strong
When she's around
She picks me up when I am down
and later in the song, his line of "my force will only grow" to "my love can only grow" always irritated me.
they center his lyrics around ladybug and his love for her. and it really reduces his character, and also pushes his love onto ladybug who doesn't even want it.
edit: i should also add that they do very much change ladybug's line to center more around adrien, too. like it's a mutual fucking up of lyrics, imo. bc they center both the lyrics around the love square.
like they say, "the power of love, so strong!" but demonstrate none of it. chat flirts with ladybug, who just looks uncomfortable from it and has to stop his advances all the time, while they're fighting akuma, and marinette becomes brainless whenever adrien breathes near her. like how is that making them stronger? helping them save the day?
like the creator did know when sailor moon or any other magical girl anime references the power of love, they mainly mean the power of friendship right?? like he did know that it's not a fluke that the genre is literally called "magical girl anime" because they're usually a group of girl-friends right?? like he knew why these magical girls were all girls and friends? right??????

not to keep harping on this but i went back and relistened to nytw hadestown wait for me (reprise)
and i forgot how mad i was that they took out the concept of trying from obc hadestown
"i let them try"
"a love song for anyone who tries"
idk i think again it's about not getting too wrapped up in presenting a war as a war, and instead focusing on a small aspect of how war affects people to communicate war (mentioned in my last musing post about the differences)
the message between "this story is for anyone who tries" feels a lot more powerful to me as far as activism goes re: climate change than obc hadestown's version of "If It's True" because it's layered on way too thick in obc
like pls go listen to obc "If It's True" or read the lyrics. you can't tell me you don't feel like you're being pummeled with a hammer with the words "THE MESSAGE" written on it
