The It-Doesn't-Matter Suit and Other Stories by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath's book of children's stories and verse is funny, original and magical and has that repetitive rhythmic quality for easy reading
I had no idea that Sylvia Plath wrote children’s stories and I’m not sure why this surprised me so much. I think that my perception of Plath is of someone battling with depression and so my view of what her work may contain or the subjects that her compositions may be about has been tainted somewhat. That being said, a poem of hers called “Mirror”, which I must confess, is the only work of hers…

Book Review: The Tale of Elgol and the Witch
Check out my review of The Tale of Elgol and the Witch by @NancetMarques. A haunting children's story with the timeless appeal of an old fable. #childrensbooks #kidlit #fairytale #scotland #bookreview
The Tale of Elgol and the Witch by N.N. Marques is a haunting children’s story with the timeless appeal of an old fable, beautifully illustrated by Yamanu Taiji. Set in mediaeval Skye, this book tells the story of a poor boy who is transformed into a giant when he runs afoul of a miserly witch. Forced into a life of solitude in the hills, he eventually grows into a wise and bountiful mountain…

Staying Safe Online
I thought this was for teens when I first borrowed it and the cutesy drawings were a nice surprise. But it did make it apparent that it was written for a much younger readership. Some of it I found decidedly less cute. The clip art punted me right back to old textbooks and computer room graphics. And it leaks through. I’m thinking specifcally of one clip-person saying ‘I am looking at [the…

Painful Skeletons
Bumps in the Night By Allan Ahlberg & André Amstutz Puffin Books, 2005 Sharing is caring, apparently. The harvesting of the information you share to make money is sharing and caring, too. It shows you care about making other richer people…

Book Review - Love Frankie by Jacqueline Wilson
⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3 out of 5. It wasn’t a certainty that I’d have anything to review for today. I’ve been reading this book for a week and I had just under half to finish yesterday. Thankfully, our Father’s Day celebrations didn’t go on as long as expected and I had time to finish it. It feels good to have finally crossed this off my TBR considering I promised myself I’d read it for Pride every year…
