A Gentleman’s Word (2/?)
Pairing: Harry Hart x Kingsman!OC
Warnings: Unrequited Love, pining, mild language, mentions of death
Summary: Evelyn and Harry meet with Merlin and Arthur where they find the truth of Lancelot’s death.
Word Count: 1532
Chapter One
Tumblr media
The cab ride to the tailors is silent; the only sound is the people on the streets as we pass. I keep my hands held together in my lap and my eyes looking out the window. He hasn't said a word to me since we left his house, and I can't gather any information from his placid expression. From the corner of my eye, I can see his jaw set as we near our desired location, a glint of anger deep within his eyes. I know this is hurting him; the loss of the Lancelot that shouldn't have been Lancelot to begin with. From the moment we met Lee Unwin, we knew that he was going to be an excellent addition to the Kingsman. James was an excellent candidate, there's no doubt about it, he was my candidate after all. But despite how good he was, Lee was always going to be our first pick. Had Harry searched the man when we conducted our raid fifteen years ago, Lee would never have died. Harry alone doesn't not carry the blame of what happened that day; we should have all been more attentive. Despite that truth, Harry still carries the guilt of Lee's sacrifice and wants nothing more to repay the debt.
I'm ripped from my thoughts as the car comes to a halt, Harry not sparing a glance in my direction before he steps out. With a soft sigh I undo my seatbelt and open the door, stepping out into the cold drizzle. As I close the door I look up, letting the rain droplets coat my face. Most people in London hate the weather here, I for one find the rain to be very relaxing. "Come on, Evelyn" Harry calls from over his shoulder with a raised brow. I quickly jog around the car and follow in suit behind him as we enter the shop. With a steady stride Harry crosses the room as the clerk looks up, "Arthur is in the dining room." Wasting no time with pleasantries, Harry makes is way to the stairs without so much as a nod. I send a grateful smile to the clerk before making my way up the stairs as well. As we round the corner Harry pushes open the double doors for the both of us, reaching for his glasses. "Arthur," he says as he stops in front of his seat. "Galahad, Guinivere." I stop at my seat and sit down, just opposite of Harry, "the others were beginning to wonder if we were going to have a triple toast." The three of us put our glasses on, "gentlemen, I'm thankful to say it's been seventeen years since we last had occasion to use this decanter. Lancelot was an outstanding agent and a true Kingsman. He will be sorely missed." Harrys find mine for a split second before we both reach for our cups, "to Lancelot."
The whiskey slides down my throat, leaving an unfamiliar burn behind. Setting my glass on the placemat in front of me, I return my attention to Arthur. "I intend to start the selection process for Lancelot's replacement tomorrow. I want each of you to propose a candidate and have them report to UKHQ no later than 9pm GMT. Thank you." With that we all take off our glasses, Arthur turning his attention to me. "Seeing as Lancelot was your previous candidate, you will have the dummy candidate this time around." I give a silent nod in agreement, my stomach growing sour at the reminder of my dead friend. Footsteps at the door earn all of our attention, my eyes darting up to find Merlin standing in the doorway with his customary clip board in hand. "Merlin. Come in." Merlin nods and makes his way to the fireplace; Arthur directs his attention back to us. "Lancelot was investigating a group of mercenaries who were experimenting with biological weaponry." "Glasses, please" Merlin says to us, motioning to the painting next to him. The three of us slide our glasses back on and look up at the screen. My stomach twists at the sight of the image on the screen. "Uganda, 2012. Synthetic cathinone's. They put it in the water supply of a guerilla army base-- rage, cannibalism, multiple fatalities." I glance at Harry from the corner of my eye as Merlin changes the photo. His eyes look vacant, like his mind is elsewhere. "Chechnya, 2013. Insurgents turned on one another. Indisputably, the work of our mercenaries, but no trace of any chemicals of any kind. "
Harry shifts uncomfortably in his seat, "so what happened to Lancelot?" Merlin's face grows somber momentarily, clicking the next photo on his clipboard. "He tracked them to this property in Argentina. While he had them under surveillance, he became aware they'd effected a kidnapping. So, he executed a solo rescue mission, which failed." I narrow my eyes; these details don't quite add up. I know how skilled James was, it would have taken a lot more than a bunch of gunslinging mercenaries to take him out of action. Merlin presses on his clipboard once more, text begins to fly across the screen "this was his last transmission." "Who is he?" I ask with a raised brow, trying to think of where I had heard that name before. "Some climate-change doomsayer, expounds something called Gaia theory about the world healing itself or some such." There it is. The anomaly that truly makes this kidnapping make absolutely no sense. Surely the mercenaries were hired by someone else to kidnap James Arnold, but for what? "But what's curious is he's not actually missing." Both Harry and I share a confused expression, brows furrowed tight. "This is Professor Arnold." We both glance back up; watching the live footage of Arnold on the campus of Imperial College. "Galahad, Guinevere, it's all yours." Merlin slides the case files in front of us, a sympathetic look on his face. Arthur turns his attention to Harry with judgement in his eyes, "and don't forget your candidate proposal. Try picking a more suitable candidate this time." I immediately bite my tongue at his words, a subtle hint of washing over my features. "17 years, and still evolving with the times remains an entirely foreign concept to you. Need I remind you that we wouldn't be here if it weren't for that young man?"
"He was as much Kingsman material as any of them. More so." I say, trying to remain some level of respect for Arthur. Harry leans back in his chair and looks at the case file in his hands. "But he wasn't exactly one of us, was he?" I look over my shoulder at Merlin who just shakes his head in response. "Let's face it, Galahad, your little experiment failed." Harry sets his jaw and stands from his seat, glancing at me to follow suit.  I grab my file from and follow Harry to the door, "with respect, Arthur, you're a snob." "With respect?" Harry stops at the doorway and turns to face Arthur, "the world is changing. There's a reason why aristocrats developed weak chins." With one last patronizing glance at Arthur, Harry turns and makes his way out of the room. As Harry makes his way down the stairs I turn to Arthur, who stares back at me. "You can't keep holding that over his head, Arthur. Whether you want to admit it or not, he is an excellent Kingsman. And you know as well as I do that Lee Unwin would have made a perfect agent." Arthur sets his jaw in annoyance, rising from his seat to stare me down, "don't let your feelings get in the way of the job, Guinevere. Should this persist, I will have to take action against you." I bite my tongue and turn away, making my way down the stairs. It's taking everything in my power not to lash out at him for his foolish words. Harry waits at the base of the stairs, his eyebrow raised at me. "Don't worry about it, Harry," is all I say before brushing past him, making my way out of the shop.
Harry is quick at my heels, his free hand wrapping around my arm, spinning me around. I face him, doing my best to keep a lid of my temper as I meet his eyes. "Thank you for having my back in there," he mutters, his eyes scanning over every inch of my face. I crack a half-hearted smile, "thank you for speaking your mind." He lets out a soft chuckle and smiles in return, his dimples becoming prominent. That one little action makes my heart race. He doesn't back away, his hand still holding my arm gently, and his warm breath tickling my cheeks. My throat turns dry as I glance down at his lips before quickly darting back up to his eyes. He narrows his eyes slightly causing heat to rise in my cheeks. I clear my throat and turn away, pulling my arm out of his grasp, "we should look over the case files." That's all I say before walking around the car to my side, quickly sliding inside.
Damn these feelings.

That Which Lurks in the Outer Voids - Part Two
So apparently today I was in a writing mood.
Here's part two of this thing I started writing two years ago
That Which Lurks in the Outer Voids
Part One
Part Two
When he gets to the address Harry gave him the previous night right after he had walked Eggsy home like the idea of a gentleman he so clearly wants to emulate, he wonders for a minute if maybe Harry was simply taking the piss.
He’s not sure what he expected, but it sure isn’t the very posh tailor shop he’s currently standing in front of. Even in his best clothes, he is definitely out of place here.
Before he can convince himself to leave however, Harry comes out of the shop with one smile too many.
“Eggsy, I’m glad you decided to come!” And the thing is, he really does seem happy about it. Besides his oldest mates and his mother, he can’t remember the last time anyone was so genuinely welcoming to him.
It leaves him feeling a bit heady and makes him wilfully ignore that, from where he’s standing, Harry probably shouldn’t have quite the reach to put a hand on his shoulder in greeting.
“It’s like I told you last night right? I don’t have much to lose.”
“Quite right, quite right,” Harry nods in agreement before leading him inside.
It’s definitely just as posh as Eggsy assumed it would be from the outside, but not ostentatiously so. Still, it’s not what Eggsy would call comfortable, not if it brings to mind words like ‘ostentatiously’. He’s not even sure he’s using it correctly.
“I was thinking we would start with meeting Andrew, but he’s busy with a fitting, so I think Merlin would be best instead. He should be upstairs, he wasn’t going to the manor today.”
That’s the first time Eggsy hears anything about a manor, but Harry is at the top of the stairs before he can ask about it. Well, it’s just going to be one more thing to add to the list of what they need to talk about before he signs anything apparently.
Eggsy is slower to get up to the top of the stairs partly because he can’t help still being cautious, partly because he doesn’t have any extra limbs. But if Harry is obviously eager at the prospect of introducing to this Merlin bloke, he doesn’t try to rush Eggsy either.
The room he’s led into looks like one big fancy dining room, which is bit weird, but at the same time, it doesn’t make it into the top ten weird things that has happened to him in the last twenty-four hours.
The cloud of what seems to be smoke brushing past him does make the list however, not that Eggsy believes for one second that it’s just a cloud. That’s definitely somebeing and he’s proven right when he hears a voice apologizing to Harry before the door closes on them.
“Ah bullocks.”
That would have been enough to make Eggsy worry, but what really has his heart racing in newfound terror is how Harry gives off the distinct impression of having shrunk next to him.
In fact, everything seems to have shrunk somehow, compared to the old man sitting at the head of the table. Or maybe it’s the man that is simply too big for the room around him.
Not big as in fat though. Just… Large. Great. Huge. Of awesome and bewildering stature.
Hysterically, Eggsy wonders if his English teacher would have been proud of his use of the language if he could hear his thoughts right now. Even though it feels vastly inadequate to describe what he’s really seeing.
“Chester.”
The name comes off as a warning. A weak one for sure, but it’s enough to snap Eggsy out of whatever was happening there for a minute. Or maybe it's just that Chester gramps getting his whatever under control.
Judging from his expression, it’s probably the latter.
“Harry. Why don’t you and your… guest have a seat?”
The room still vaguely feels like it’s too small to be containing the old man and Eggsy fights nausea as he watches Harry takes the chair to Chester’s right. He’s unbelievably grateful when Harry pushes the chair directly next to him in a clear invitation for Eggsy to sit there.
It might have been less than a day, but Harry’s peculiarities still act as a buffer against whatever Chester’s deal is. Not enough exactly for Eggsy to breathe easy, but at least he’s no longer in danger of loosing his breakfast all over his shoes.
“So, I’ve heard you wanted to hire a… consultant of sorts.”
It should feel like a small mercy that Chester is only looking at Harry for now, but Eggsy can’t help bristling slightly anyway. No matter how disquieting the situation is, it hasn’t escape his notice how Chester briefly hesitated before choosing how to refer to him. Twice now.
Eggsy might be completely out of his depth, but he’s not going to let some posh old twat disrespect him either. He just needs to clear his head of the sense of vertigo that comes from looking in Chester’s direction before he does anything.
Harry apparently doesn’t have such a problem however.
“And you think that our way to do it is through this… young man?”
“You know as much as I do that the world is changing. Faster now than it ever did. A few hours in Eggsy’s company was enough to make me realise that we have already lost touch too much. If we want to continue living here, we need to adapt. You know I’m right.”
They hold gaze for a moment before Chester speaks again.
Chester turns the nearly physical weight of his skeptical gaze on him now, but Eggsy refuses to be crushed. He’s not going to give any old snob the satisfaction.
Even if he has no doubt his attempts are pathetic at best, he still does his best to appear taller than he feels. Even if he knows he is painfully outmatched, he wants Chester to know he won’t go down without fighting tooth and nail. That even if a very primal part of him is fucking terrified, he’s not gonna let himself get scared.
Eggsy is many things, several of which he isn’t proud of. But he’s not a coward. And he might not have much to his name, but he still got his pride and he won’t let anyone- anything- step on it.
He’s not sure how long they stare at each other. Could be a couple of seconds. Or two millennia.
But suddenly he’s free of whatever pressure was exerting itself on him and something like a smile seems to pass on Chester’s wrinkly old face.
“Hmm. Maybe you’re right.”
From the corner of his eyes, Eggsy can see Harry victoriously beaming from too many mouths.
“Alright, that’s that settled then. I’ll let Merlin know to bring the appropriate paperwork.”
And just like that Chester leaves without another word, somehow fitting his immense body through the doorframe, and the room’s proportions make sense again.
“Congratulations Eggsy.” Harry pats his back with something Eggsy distantly notes isn’t a hand.
“I thought I was supposed to meet everyone?” Eggsy asks because apparently surviving one fucked-up interview with an otherworldly Titan isn’t enough for him.
“That was before you had Chester’s approval. He was the one I was really worried about and I thought he would be more easily convinced if everyone else was on board. But I shouldn’t have bothered considering how well this meeting went!”
There’s a weird echo-y quality to his laughter since it’s coming from many different throat but Eggsy still joins in, too relieved to still have his life and mind intact to do anything else.
It’s only when a man enters the room holding a stack of papers that he has to reconsider his sanity.
Because he would have to be absolutely mad to accept this job.
And yet, he still signs on every lines he needs to without a moment of hesitation.

So I've been operating on the assumption that the Magnus Protocol takes place in an alternate universe from The Magnus Archives for obvious reasons. Lowri Anne Davis played Celia in the new episode, and she played a character back in TMA season 5 named Celia in Georgie and Melanie's cult, which means there are stronger ties to the original universe than I originally thought. I assumed that with different fear entities the shape of reality would be different, that there would be similarities, but exact people and lives would be different. I still half expect Gwen's last name to be a red herring tbh. But if there are versions of the original universe characters like Celia out and about (and certainly aware of the supernatural to some extent) then there's a chance that versions of other TMA characters could show up, like Sasha or Tim or Jon and Martin. And given how there are statements that were recorded in the first place (like needles or the tattoo case) then there's a chance that one of the "programs" could play out a scene with a TMA character. Given that "Chester, Norris, and Augustus" are reading statements relevant to their previous lives from TMA what's going to happen if there's a phonecall recorded of Tim seeing a ghost? An episode of Georgie and Melanie's podcast? Daisy and Basira responding to a call for an avatar? What about a version (the original version?) Of Annabelle Cane?
What if they found a recording of this universe's Jon and/or Martin?

When I heard #kingvendrick talk during his crown monologues, I finally heard #marvelouschester 's voice. IT clicked. Now for Oceiros, it's the same voice actor but he really hid the voice well.
I probably should've looked for Tom and Jerry refs for the cheek pull but UHF came to mind.

Hey! I finished up another little resource I've been slowly putting together.
I've put together a turnaround reference of every character in the game, with every alternate appearance, both full bodies and profile views.
The full body views include a hatless young Graham for scale. There is a bit of an issue regarding characters with armor- I'm not very savvy with blender admittedly, and all of the metal comes out really dark. It isn't too bad, save for Manny, who doesn't even have his green feather. I'd like to fix those once I can. Also, capes are omitted. I think that only applies to Graham and Whisper though.
I'll be finishing up doing the same for the animals at some point, and I'm planning on making a few references for certain character's weapons, or other interesting items.
Also- along with the profile views, I included some of Graham's head at every angle by 10 degrees, from head on, lower, and upper angles. Thought it would be helpful to see how his hat works from any direction. The images are huge, here's a gif of them all together.

Hope these will come of use! I've been working on it for a while.
