ok actually building more on the idea of jigsaw apprentice grocery shopping trips and the various reasons they all suck at it (John doesn't go out bc he's too ill and also way too recognisable)
Amanda - It's not really Amanda's fault that she sucks at getting the groceries, she struggles with chronic nausea as a side effect of her sobriety so she ends up buying lots of small, bland snack foods and forgets to get actual ingredients for big meals. She does eventually start buying more fruit to make smoothies for John as his cancer gets worse and she flips her shit when she catches hoffman stealing it for himself later
Lawrence - Lawrence should be the best at getting the groceries but he forgets that basically only hoffman and himself can cook (and hoffman sticks to simple staple meals.) He buys a lot of fancy preserved foods and fresh ingredients assuming the other apprentices will cook with them only to find Adam eating feta out of the jar with a fork.
Mark - Hoffman is usually the one to actually get the groceries as he does buy a decent amount of food and he's an okay cook (he used to have regular family dinners with angelina where he'd cook her comfort foods.) He cooks a lot of pasta bakes and roasts, tends to stick to stodgy, hearty meals. The rest of the stuff he buys is usually microwave ready meals and those big chunky meat soup cans for big boys. One year Amanda buys him one of those super cheap kiss the cook aprons as a joke and he now unironically wears it every time he cooks.
Adam - They let Adam buy the groceries one single time and he ended up bringing home seven bags of frozen potato gems, four litres of mountain dew and a pack of darts. John doesn't talk to him for two weeks.

Day 3: Four fully-furnished starter tiny homes at varying budgets!
Most starter homes are meant to be blank canvases, but I wanted some that already had personality so you could jump right into playing. I was also inspired by “smallest home possible for X Sims/Y budget-” YouTube videos for TS4 and wanted to try it in TS2! Edit: I forgot to mention- as usual, these are CC free.
§20k Starters for up to 8 Sims
The first two are both your average 20k starter designed to house large families. The blue house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and is furnished for four Sims by default, while the red house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and is furnished for eight Sims (!) by default.
Both have a whole 10x10 worth of backyard space, because that's kind of important when things are so crowded - but if you want to shave off even more space or money, the actual houses are built such that the lots can easily be shrunk with the Lot Adjuster to just 10x10 total.
§19,650 - 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom
§19,952 - 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom
Both lots have the same downstairs layout, while the red house has a smaller upstairs landing to facilitate an extra bedroom. By default, the red house assumes two baby/toddler residents, but you can sell both cribs and the potty to afford two more beds whilst staying under-budget.
The back yards are half-”paved” in free-to-own terrain paint in preparation for any outdoor furniture you might want to place. I recommend making use of neighbourhood decorations for free landscaping! Obviously they look boxy and a bit funny on their own, but they look good placed in a row, or squeezed into a small space in an already-populated suburb.
BE AWARE that neither house includes burglar or fire alarms/sprinklers; however, the blue house will leave you with enough Simoleons to afford both. You could also choose to buy enough supplies for a cat and/or a dog with the budget left over.
The staircases have been placed with Nopke’s mod which allows Sims to pass underneath spiral stairs, functionality which should stick even if you don’t have the same mod (unless you buy new stairs). However, the house still functions even if Sims can’t pass underneath the stairs.
The little 2x1 space by the back door ended up being quite useful in such a tight layout, especially the 4-bedroom, like so:
But if you use an open staircase mod, feel free to consider this alternative layout:
§10k Starter for Single Sim or Couple
This one is perfect for newcomer Sims saving up for a bigger house, retired Elders who want to leave the family estate to their adult kids, or frugal Sims who simply have no desire to start a family.
§9,919. The layout is not so large as to feel lonely but not too small that Sims can’t entertain a guest or two. No backyard to this one - it’s a true 1x1 lot.
§2k Shelter
And the ultimate budget challenge - trying to make a decent shack for Sims under 2k. I actually love how it turned out; it looks so cute and cottage-y from the outside and feels so cozy and safe on the inside.
§1,956. No shower, but Sims can sponge bathe in the sink if they get desperate. The toilet is outside but that’s honestly preferable in such a small space. Most of the walls are actually made from roofing to keep the price down but the house is fully weather-proof.
This looks a little silly - but it works! Sims can access the toilet through the cutout provided under this extra roof. Put some neighbourhood deco trees around for privacy and for the woodland fairy cottage vibes. This lot was mostly just a fun challenge, so it’s not super practical, but I do think it could be useful for down-on-their-luck Sims who need a place to crash in a hurry.

hi grey!!!! thanks for all the flowers lovely <3
one of my oldest memories is my uncle sitting me down at his kitchen table with a small bowl of pomegranate seeds and a sheet of printer paper. he showed me how to crush the seeds to make shapes on the paper, and when i was done i had sticky, purple hands and a smile on my face.
i'm older now, and my dad peels pomegranates to keep the seeds as a snack for whoever wants them. he's skilled at it, very practiced at removing all the bad ones and making sure that the bowl is fresh at this point, but that bowl of pomegranate seeds in the fridge is one of the ways he shows us that he loves us. (and it's something i'm indulging in now. i got hungry and wanted a little sweet treat, and there's our bowl of pomegranate seeds for that very purpose!!)
sometimes pomegranate seeds are sticky fingers and sometimes it's a snack, but to me they will always mean love <3

I feel like Chrissy’s fave potted plants are petunias. They’re just unapologetically colourful and when she was little she begged her mom to allow her to grow some but Laura Cunningham thought they were loud and tacky. So when she moves in with Eddie and Wayne she timidly asks if she can buy a couple of potted petunia pots (of course the answer is yes).
While Eddie sure loves seeing his girl happy with her lil’ plant babies, he doesn’t really share her enthusiasm for them. But Wayne?? Oh lawd you know that Chrissy ropes him into becoming a hardcore plant grandfather, you just know it 🌱

Does one piece goes like most shonen or does it as you said subverts the ideas? I only watched the most popular ones so idk what are the tropes
(context, i think?)
i think it depends on the trope! not all of which are specific or exclusive to shonen, for the record.
there are some concepts and topics where one piece likes to play with your expectations.
the protagonist with mysterious parentage is… pretty common in shonen. either he has no idea who his dad is, or he knows but his dad’s a mysterious person, never around or never able to answer our hero’s questions. how frustrating! we want answers about our hero’s heritage, the legacy he’s inherited!
luffy… doesn’t care about any of that.
dragon who? the legacy luffy’s inherited is gold roger’s, a man he has no relation to whatsoever. (though certain fan theories wondered otherwise, for a time.) because blood doesn’t matter, your dreams and will and choices do! the marines don’t believe that, and they’re dead wrong. trying to execute roger’s biological son does nothing for them—it’s in trying to kill whitebeard’s chosen son, luffy’s chosen brother, that they get the war they’ve been wanting.
other concepts are sacrosanct.
the power of friendship™️ is a joke in english-speaking anime/manga fandom, the concept comes up so often in shonen and shojo, but i don’t think one piece would ever mess with that. the importance of your friends, and what you are willing and able to do for them, is so essential to the series. characters can leave, thinking they’re looking out for the crew’s safety, but luffy is gonna get them to admit what they really want (which is to stay part of his crew), and he’s going to bring them back. to do otherwise would be a betrayal of certain fundamental themes of the series.
…of course, you could make the argument that ace’s death was a betrayal of those themes. (it was certainly unexpected to a lot of readers—though some had cynically placed ace in a “mentor big brother = DOOMED” box in their heads years prior.) but that loss ends up being foundational to luffy’s resolve post-timeskip. what could have been a betrayal of themes instead reinforced them: luffy’s failed once, there is no way he’s failing again.
and then there are things not sacrosanct so much as… not thought through?
for an example of something played almost too straight, just look at zoro’s backstory. the existence of a girl who dies and is therefore the root motivation for our hero’s entire life is classic fridging. the whole tashigi-is-secretly-kuina fan theory sprung out of the belief that there had to be more to kuina’s story than that, that it couldn’t just be… that.
