This sounds interesting. For the ask game--
It's for the greater good, he told himself. Yes, he had to lie to the Federation Council but it was necessary.
So he took a deep breath. Clasped his hands behind his back. Would cross his fingers like a fibbing kid if he thought he could get away with it. “The proof is definitive. They are who they say they are.”
The proof was not definitive. The proof was flimsy at best.
“Admiral Vance,” Laira leaned forward in her seat, “do you seriously believe this ship with no record anywhere in our files actually is the USS Discovery and her crew are here to help us?”
“Madam President-elect,” Charles’ spine straightened with righteousness, with truth at last, “I’d bet all our lives on it.”
[for the “send me a sentence and I’ll write the next five” fic ask game]

"Think of us as an orchestra, you're first chair violin, with the showy challenging solos. I'm the drum section, setting the pace, providing backbone. She's the conductor. When she signals us, we play. It's not our job to know if the cellist is drunk or the woodwinds and brass are at war. We each have our part, and we must all trust that she knows the symphony."

Pixie Recaps Starfleet
Hello! There are five weeks until the season two premiere of Strange New Worlds and I am using them to photocap one episode of each series I haven't done one for yet (Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds). For Lower Decks I will be doing "I, Excretus" but for the other series I'm running a poll to decide. First up, Discovery:

Vance really had to sit through that entire negotiation with Osyraa back in season 3 and withstand the impulse to go ballistic on her for what she did to His Funny Little Man

“For this armistice to be worth anything, then the person representing the Chain has to be proven credible. And the only way that that can happen is if he or she functions completely independently of you. And tries you for your crimes.”
“Excuse me?”
“They're well documented. You've never stood trial, because no one's been able to compel the Chain.”
“You're staring at the past. I just drew you a real map to the future.”
“The past is the only light with which we can see the future. Your willingness to do this will send a message, and I promise you I will not let anyone forget that.”
“It's just more abstractions. The past cannot be undone.”
“But it could be made right.”
“We all had to make hard choices because of the Burn. Spare me your judgment.”
“Osyraa, I want peace. I want the Federation to join the Chain, and I want to learn from your great society. The Burn has left us with a legacy of fear, of isolation of scarcity that still clouds our moral clarity, a clarity that I fight for on a daily basis and I ask my people to die for. So if that's the reason that we can't reach an accord today, well I can live with that.”
“You're making a mistake.”
“Osyraa, your people are good. I beg you to be as good as they are. I can promise you justice.”
“Oh, I can promise you the same.” - Admiral Charles Vance and Osyraa (Star Trek: Discovery, Episode 3.12)
