I couldn't help but notice that you are an Undertale and Danganronpa fan who happens to ship NaeJunko and Chasriel. I was just wondering. Have you ever considered writing an Undertale AU where Junko and Makoto take the place of Chara and Asriel? I always saw some comparisons between Chara/Asriel and Junko/Makoto. However, I'm curious how a Danganronpa-Undertale AU would work with other Danganronpa characters in their new positions.

Sometimes TBH...but (and I'm sorry to disappoint) I don't see Naejunko dynamic being that similar to the Chasriel dynamic, at least how I'm envision their relationship/dynamic to be.

Plus, if I write a Undertale AU involving Danganronpa, Makoto is going to be the equivalent to Chara doesn't matter what her/their role is (because certain inside jokes and stuff). IDK if you were expecting Makoto to take Asriel's role but that's not how I roll.

What made you ship it?

oh man. so much! everything about it! not in a world without you speech gets me... the whole asriel not being ready to say goodbye speech...

ironically, no mercy route probably made me ship it extra hard because of how much dread is injected into the dynamic there - i felt extremely bad about that route, but fascinated.

after all these years it's you i promise i won't do anything to get in your way, i can help maybe it would be okay if we just lived on the surface the two of us...

asriel's obvious obsession, and the rockiness between the two despite how close they were... that's fascinating.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

oh man, so many things about it!

I think charasriel is very obviously my peak 'go to' ship - it is very obviously what I love condensed into this. thing. I love the mourning, I love the codependency, I love all the different interpretations of their dynamic and different ways you can read certain things - and how you can never know EXACTLY how it went down which allows you to keep tackling the same moments from different perspectives. kind of like turning a little piece of trauma in your hands over and over again, kind of like flowey/az does haha. I love how asriel and chara are Bad Kids and things go the worst way possible and how they're both entirely different fascinating characters who Have Similarities But Differences. i love how different routes of the game lead to entirely different information on the characters and their relationship. there's so many tiny little pieces of insight to collect about their relationship, but it's all fractured from where you're collecting it.

it is the most pure and distilled codependency ship. you can write about things going wrong in so many ways. i'm a sucker for codependent childhood friends, and here the codependent childhood friends are super plot relevant and serve as this... backbone to every event, even though no one is aware of it.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

man i try not to complain but I actually AM a little picky about fanfic, so - genre of fic where Chara is Always Right. if you don't know the fic I mean, it goes like this... asriel has flaws (correct) but asriel is spoiled. chara is right because chara is a victim and has seen the abuses of the world. asriel is wrong because he is Spoiled and probably neurotypical and anyway none of what chara did was that bad anyway- - asriel is a simple sweet kid. always innocent. always morally right. always says chara that's wrong! - chara is a simple sweet kid. they just loved gardening. they are super sweet. they never wanted to hurt anybody!

basically i don't like when either side is painted as wholly innocent and flat because it's not how i read either character, but i also don't like when the story paints it as chara never doing anything wrong to asriel either. it's a complex dynamic that 'seems' simple

What made you ship it?

ironically, very similarly to chasriel, it's the not in a world without you speech. and then... the speech at the end too, where he acknowledges he's projecting and frisk's differences.

I mean... asriel is projecting obviously, and I think both that similarity and Recognizing the dissimilarities are both interesting things going on with that relationship.

i'm also... hm. I think a lot of people play very nice Frisks! but I always imagine Frisk did do things sometime to see just what happened. it's tempting right? so I always imagine a Frisk who could fundamentally understand Asriel, and an Asriel who can do similarly

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

ahhh so one thing I really love is that... a lot of what's shared between Frisk and Asriel is stuff basically no one knows about. there's this bottle of secrets between them. Asriel is aware of what Frisk has done during time loops, and Frisk is aware of Asriel's true identity and what no one else knows about him as a character at the end of the game. there's also... so much potential for time travel shenanigans, and playing around with life and death. basically two kid characters rewinding time endlessly.

i love time loops. i love the idea of characters who wrong others and then get used to being able to just rewind to fix it. i love that flowey and frisk are the only two characters who can really bond over this together... this game both of them have played with each other, specifically

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? hmmm... definitely another case where frisk and asriel are often made too nice for me! i think a lot of separation of asriel from flowey as an identity happens as well, and so you end up with a lot of characterizations where it's like... the character frisk spent the majority of the game with isn't even really... IN the interpretation of the character fanficwise. I like some flowisk labelled fics, but tend to not get the bite I want out of friskriel labelled fics. asriel is... a brat! that's why I love him

basically, comes back to the fact that without injecting a bit of flowey in him, asriel is a character who doesn't have a lot of character meat to me

frisk is someone where i think every interp is valid, but interps of frisk where they don't do everything right first go are more interesting to me

Asriel's feelings about Chara are a jumbled mess. I want you to be okay and I want you to not be mad at me and I want you to get what you want and I want you to stay by my side. What wins out at any given moment is far from a foregone conclusion.

Crashing Bells

Authors note:

Did anyone order some badly written Chara fics? No? well, here you go anyways. 

 The “alarm bells” represent anxiety/overstimulation, which leads to panic attacks. DH Chara is autistic and suffers from C-PTSD, both of which are NOT a great combo. 

Tw: implied cult-experiences, implied-abuse, internalized-ableism, implied CSA, self-harm/self-triggering.  (PS: we are NOT planning to AT ALL go into detail about the CSA in the comic series. It will only be implied, but NEVER detailed.)

Sometimes, alarm bells rang heavy in Chara’s head.

They pounded against their skull, clashing into their brain and morphed their thoughts into incoherent ringing, a ringing that brushed against their eardrums, so gentle it was uncomfortably so. In due time, their brain itself unraveled, coming alive like a snake, twisting its way out of their head and curling itself around their throat and lungs.

When the ringing was quiet and low, it was a sign that escape was still an option. That if they fled the situation, the ringing would slow to a stop. That it wouldn’t unravel and take hold of their entire body, wouldn't leave them a heaving mess on the ground, or in a tight corner somewhere. 

The alarms lightly began to ding when conversations got too loud. They dinged when silverware scraped against dishes. They dinged when Asriel or Asgore got frustrated enough to where their fangs would bare.

The dinging wasn’t too bothersome. It was a light warning, a gentle tug at their comfort zone. Something they could handle, and adapt to, and grow used to being around.

It was only when they began to clang, causing their whole body to shake with each crash, that they ran. And if they couldn’t flee, they fought, clawing, punching, kicking, screaming. And if they couldn’t do that either, they closed their eyes and distanced themself from the world. They tried to force themself out of their body, so that the sensations would stop.

The bells didn’t like crowds. Small crowds were able to be handled sometimes, but large crowds brought out that terror of being surrounded and trapped again, their cries of suffering a mere sacrifice for an unforgiving God.

The bells didn’t like specific sounds. Scraping and crackling were bearable at a minimum, but if they began to repeat, the unraveling in their mind began. It was just awful, terrible, why would anyone want those sounds, why do they always sound so loud, why, why why?

The bells didn’t like when Toriel bared her teeth. Asgore and Asriel made the bells a little on edge, but there was something uniquely terrifying about Toriel. Toriel was a grown woman, a woman who they saw as a mother. And one of their biggest fears was that she would someday prove to be just like her, and that those claws and teeth would leave marks on their skin whenever she felt enraged.

There was some things Chara had to force themself to experience. Because, sometimes, the bells and Chara’s desires were at odds.

Chara wanted so badly to hug Asgore and Toriel. But every time they tried, the bells grew so heavy, that Chara wanted nothing more than to rip them out as they lay in their new parents’ arms, panting and gasping for air. They tore off bits of their hair sometimes, trying desperately to just rip it all away. Asgore and Toriel always stopped them as gently as he could, holding them still until they passed out from the sheer panic.

Chara never told either of them that their hugs were what caused the panic. Both the parents assumed the hugs were because they felt the panic incoming and wanted comfort. But the reality was that Chara harmed themselves by hugging them. Could anyone blame them, though? They wanted the hugs, they really did! But…adults could so easily lift them and take them away, where nobody would know. Could so easily explore them in ways they never wanted to experience again.

It was terrifying. And they knew in their soul that Toriel and Asgore would never do that. But their brain didn’t seem to get the memo.

Ironically, the alarm-bells sometimes rang at their own partners. Actions Chara unintentionally did – flapping of hands, stomping of feet, twirling in circles, snapping their fingers – could set off the alarms. Sometimes, it was because of the noises that came with those actions. Most times, though, it was because Asriel, Toriel, or Asgore were a witness.

“They know I’m a freak,” Chara would think, “They know I am disturbed, and broken, and unfixable, and now theyre going to punish me. Why was I born like this, why, why, why cant I just be NORMAL?”

It never happened, though. Punishment was never received for their unnatural behavior. They were always treated with kindness, and love, and Asriel would hold them until they calmed down, assuring them that they were beautiful, handsome, perfect, and his best friend, regardless of what they did physically or mentally.

As the years went on, the bells went off less recently. The alarms calmed, for the most part, only coming up when some particularly unbearable sounds, sensations, or triggers were around. By the age of fourteen, Chara assumed that, if they were corporeal again, they would be able to hug Asgore and Toriel safely.

And they hoped that, somday soon, they will have a chance to test that assumption.
