Chagas disease, also known as "silent or silenced disease", affects mainly poor people without access to health care or people without a political voice.
The disease progresses slowly and often shows an asymptomatic clinical course. Without treatment, Chagas disease can lead to severe cardiac and digestive alterations and becomes fatal.
Raising awareness of the disease is essential to improve the rates of early treatment and cure, together with the interruption of its transmission.
The World Chagas Disease Day was celebrated for the first time in 2020.

Commonly known as cone-nose and chinches, kissing bugs are blood-sucking insects, mostly feeding during the nights. Chinches are appropriately called ‘kissing’ bugs, as their favorite feeding spot is just around the mouth or eyes.
Kissing bugs are known carriers of the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, which causes Chagas diseases, both in humans and dogs. Chagas pose a major health problem that should not be taken lightly or neglected. You can learn more about Chagas here.
If you’ve encountered a kissing bug, never engage them with your naked hand. To avoid direct contact, use a glove or any other object to act as a barrier. Ensure to revisit and clean all surfaces visited by the chinch. Need tips on how to get rid of kissing bugs?
