Dany says: Where do I start with this gem? It's the High Fidelty AU I had no idea I needed until @st-clements-steps came up with it and then I was already gone, hook, line and sinker. The title in itself is already genius, but then when you read further that pales in comparison to how fucking brilliant this is. The AU is perfectly translated and all our beloved characters and their stories drafted for the fic fit seamlessly. All the Top 5s are hilarious and relatable and/or discussable, and inside all of that you have two sad boys who need to find their way back to each other ♥️ Please do yourself a favour and go read it, and then go and read all of the author's works, because Greysnow or not, her way with words is one of the most unique and fascinating things I've ever encountered.

Dany says: This. Fic. Is. SPECTACULAR. Two men, broken beyond recognition, but still there, still alive and now reunited after being through the wars - and they do recognize each other (sobs galore!!) The attention to both Jon and Theon's characters is stunning, the descriptions gritty and evocative, the whole AU idea so so SO good. Special mention to Satin, the true MVP. 2 more chapters of this masterpiece are coming, and I couldn't be more thrilled! Go and read and subscribe and bookmark, you won't regret it one bit.

Dany says: I had a really hard time trying to choose one out of my 100+ Greysnow works (I have either too much time or too little self-control, or both), but in the end I decided to go with my longest fic (so far, I'm pretty sure 1x1 will be double that in the end). I can't objectively say anything about the quality, but I can tell you it was a blast to write and I still love everything about this fic.

....you know what? Since I'm paying the iron price, I'll be even more shameless and rec another of my fics.

why is Theon Greyjoy such an fascinating character to you and what about him initially got you interested?

OKAY SO.

This has been sitting here a while.

I'm sorry about that. I had to get my thoughts in order because HONESTLY THERE ARE A LOT OF THOUGHTS HEAD FULL OF THEON.

I will start with the easier question to answer: when.

I know you didn't ask but I feel it's pivotal to my understanding and subsequent love for the character for some reason.

So. I pretty much chose Theon as my absolute favourite character ever since his first appearance in the book. We stan a head kicking king. I… basically read the first book in less than 24 hours because we love an hyperfixation outlet. And I could not get enough of him. I couldn't. It was impossible. I needed more.

I then started the second book and the TV series pretty much simultaneously. And I'm going to be completely honest: I could not pick Theon out during the first couple scenes the first time I watched the pilot. I think this isn't unusual as Alfie is not the faceclaim I headcanoned for him and I'm sure most people felt the same way. However, when I finally understood who he was... man, I loved him even more.

Alfie's portrayal is fantastic, so flawless in his performance yet that's what makes the character so deeply flawed. So real. So human. So telling of who the real Theon is. His understanding of the character was mindblowing. His demeanour. His body language. His speech. Everything was absolutely perfect. Let's just say after the first episode I was already stanning like a madman.

I think show! Theon had a great impact in my even further rising liking of the character but if we go into it more there are a few reasons why he's the baby who owns my heart.

He's incredibly complex and he experiences certain things that I could relate to (up to a point). I'm not going to get into details but I know for a fact that more people in the Theon fandom have felt the same way.

The way he copes with his trauma (even preReek) is so beautifully crafted by the author and he behaves in a way that is so wonderfully human to me, in a world where humanity is not as important. We see people turn into absolute monsters. Shameless. Heartless. Theon never was a monster. Even when he did awful, terrible things. He was just a human. He was a boy, even. Broken. But human.

He manages to retain his humanity, with the guilt and shame that accompany it, all of his life. And that makes him real to me. That makes him true. That makes him a character I can look at, relate to, nod to myself with satisfaction at a character well-crafted.

Don't get me wrong I love monsters as much as the next person but few are on Theon's level of awesomeness.

He makes mistakes. And you can see how and why he makes them. He then lives up to his mistakes. He tries to solve them. He fails again. And he tries. And tries. And tries. Always.

Theon's arc is both a story of overcoming, of self-improvement, of self-discovery and acceptance. We are presented with a character who does not belong. Ever since his fist appearance. He is not supposed to be there. And when he allegedly goes to the place he is supposed to be, he finds out he does not belong there either. It's heartbreaking. It's soul crushing. It's relatable, and it's real.

I don't know man, I just love him.

New Chapter (Ch 5) 

It was her first dress ever. One of a cloud-like grey that matched the sky, decorated in pale embroidery of flowers. Lady Stark had gifted it to her before leaving Winterfell, having informed Ellysia that she was no longer a worker here, that her hands would callous no further. Ellysia was now a respected guest of Winterfell, and was to be treated as such.

For someone who had worn breaches all their life, Ellysia had quickly taken a liking to skirts and dresses. Sure it was a little tight at the top and she did worry about her apples spilling out the barrel. But her dress came with pockets, in which she could conceal things with ease. Sharp and pointy things. More importantly, it offered her so much freedom in mobility. She wondered if she kicked high enough, would she be able to reach Theon Greyjoy’s face?

She turned to look behind her, Theon Greyjoy followed closely behind with his bland unimpressed face. He invited himself much against Robb’s protests. One hand gripped at his bow like it were a lifeline, the other hand not too far from his quiver. His eyes were on Ellysia, he didn’t trust her. Perhaps Theon Greyjoy was smarter than she had given him credit for.
