if you have extra spoons or just want to open it up to your community, I have questions about erotica and amazon.

Is there any content that amazon nukes that isn't implicitly part of it's TOS or written rules? For examples I guess:

Knots in erotica (were-anything, dragons, etc.) I heard from a friend that they don't allow this so they're trying to work around this by calling it everything but a knot.

How 'steamy' is too steamy? I know for non hetero they gloss over a lot of them but I guess what keywords did you have to avoid to not be shadow banned on their algorithm

I read up a little on what kinds of cover pictures were acceptable and that's just, weird but I guess color blocks and silhouettes are all in right now (It's erotica, why not have somebody in a questionable pose?!?)

And I guess this final question is a little outside what your book series did, but non humanoid love interests (more akin to Shape of Water and other love interests that look less like humans). What does Amazon expect the writers to avoid (aside from writing them in general) and what goods ways are there to put tags, the blurb, etc?!

So, for the most part, provided you stick to the TOS with Amazon, you're fine. However, the Amazon censors are human and have their own biases you have to contend with. Amazon also recently purged their dark romance category, which was an actual thing, presumably in an attempt to look squeaky clean despite romance and erotica being the backbone upon which KDP is built. Yay, sanitized capitalism...

I'm not aware of 'knotting' being banned, though it probably depends on whether you're writing straight or queer erotica and which human you get on the other end of the screen when it comes to final approval. There's a well-known problem with a homophobic censor on the weekends (Fuck you, Carlos, 🖕) who seemingly tends to knock back LGBTQ+ content on a whim. Hilariously, he knocked back the Fluff version of Hunger Pangs the first time I submitted it for approval. I didn't make any changes to the file and reuploaded it on Monday. Problem solved. (This also happened to Chuck Tingle about a year ago, though I can't seem to find the thread atm.)

When it comes to het-content, you can start the book with dubcon, and likely, nothing will happen. Queer content, you will want to give yourself a longer build-up to avoid getting knocked back. I've heard that censors stop reading after 20% but don't quote me on that. Putting certain content after that mark may be a way to avoid getting certain things picked up. When it comes to the algorithm, don't tag it like fic. Things like Shifter Romance, Monster Romance, and Gay Romance are acceptable (or whatever category you are in), but DO NOT tag it the way you would fic. A list like gay, shifter, knotting, BDSM, kink, tentacles--whatever-- is not how the Amazon algorithm works. Avoid putting trigger/content warnings anywhere inside the book as well. If you want a comprehensive list of content tags for your readers, you'll need to do what I did and have a specific page on your website listed at the front of your book, but you'll also want to keep that page inactive on your website until the book gets approved. These are the hoops we jump through to let our readers make informed choices... Also, don't tag it as queer anywhere. You can't even use 'queer' in reviews on Amazon anymore. 🙃

The reason you're currently seeing the trend of vector art and whatnot is twofold: one, it's cheaper than hiring models or paying for certain licensed content. Secondly, it's to avoid being flagged as erotic because we live in the bad place where everything must be sanitized for advertisers. You'll still see the odd headless hot-abbed torso, but it's safer to have non-explicit content on the cover. If you want a good example of how to code something as erotic without using explicit images, take a look at Katee Robert's covers. They tend to have a symbolic image framed in the middle surrounded by darkness with very vibrant colors--usually an electric purple, red or green.

In terms of content, in theory, as long as you are sticking to the TOS, you're fine. As for tagging, I sort of already answered this with how to tag via website links, but as for how to write blurbs, you're going to want to phrase it as something hintingly vague. For example: After an accident at work, Merissa finds herself plunged into an alternate fantasy dimension ruled over by the merfolk of Atlan'titsia. Captured, she is brought before the mysterious Prince SexyMonster, who claims her for himself. Bound and displayed as an oddity in his court, she is torn between her desire to return home and to learn more about this strange new place where desire rules supreme, and the rules are not at all what she expects... Or something to that effect. Don't ask me. I'm rubbish at blurbs, lmao.

Anyway, it's been a minute since I contended with Amazon's uploads, and some of this may have changed. If it has, I'd be curious to know what has changed. I hope some of that helps, though.

Also, before anyone starts ragging on Amazon for any of this, the TOS are pretty universal across the board. It's just more evident with Amazon because it's often the only place indies can afford to publish.

I heard about the OTW Board election a few days ago and I have been thinking about how to put this into words. I am not good at words, but I think I should at least try.

(My first language is not English, so please forgive me and I apologise in advance if it sounds off or messy or wrong. I do not have any intention of accusing or targeting anyone or any party. I just, I think it scares me so much thinking that even the fandom or AO3 are not longer be safe from censorship. Apologies in advance.)

So do you know what is the worst part of censorship? From my experience? It is the fact that it takes away your right to know. And by doing that, people who have the power to censor will determine what you are allowed to know and what is not.

It always start with something small, something pure, something that is “good for you”. Today it may be the child porn, tomorrow it may be violence content, blah, blah, blah. And they will not stop. There will always be another thing that they want to “protect” you from. And it will get ugly very, very fast. And then one day, it will be the opposition opinions, politics, and the things that is life and death.

Because all that matters is it will take away that right of deciding what is right or wrong from you. And they will be the one get to decide what is allowed to be known by you and what is not. And eventually, you would lost the important pieces to question the people who have the power of censorship because you won’t even know there is something wrong and you should start questioning them.

This is very, very dangerous. It may feel normal, or secured, at first, but eventually you will not even know that there is something you should know but don’t, all because such information can be taken away from you before you even realise that it exists.

I know it sounds exaggerating. I wish it is. But unfortunately it is not. There are some many ways to make the system a better one: strengthening the tagging, warnings, etc, etc. The process may be difficult and there would be argument and disagreement on the way. But at the end of the day, the decision should be ours. Don’t let anyone else to decide it for you. Don’t ever surrender your right to know and to discuss and debate and decide what is right or wrong. Never give up these rights just because it feels easier.

Because I can assure you that it is the opening of the Pandora Box, and trust me, this time, there will not be any hope left.

Killer Queen - a few things before we start

hi. I just wanted to say a few things about this story that you should probably know beforehand so I don't have to add a million things in the author's note or do the classic Clunky Exposition and Explanation thing. none of these are spoilers.

first of all, the first few chapters of this are shit. they just are. I was quite young when I started writing this and my skills were not exactly fully-formed. I just wanted to say this so you don't start reading it, go what the fuck this is shit (I do the same if I have to look back it's embarrassing), and stop reading. please just bear with them and then you'll get to the good shit. I do intend to rewrite them but fuck knows when that will be.

UPDATE 08/07/22: I am in the process of going back, rewriting, fixing things, changing things, etc. but I will be doing it in bits so I apologise for any inconsistencies with the story between now and when I finish changing what needs to be changed.

please for the love of christ take the things that happen in this fic with a grain of fucking salt. people are not perfect and neither are these characters. they are going to fuck up and do questionable things and it might not get addressed until much later on. just trust that if something concerning happens I will explore it properly at some point.

while im on this topic, I need to mention that they have sex. yes they're 15 at the start of this fic. yes that is a bit weird. yes I am going to explore this later on as carefully as I can. yes I myself am at that age so no im not sexualising teenagers. no there is no smut in this at all. once again just bear with me here.

I know the sirius is east asian headcanon is controversial so I'll change it if anyone feels uncomfortable with it. the only reason im keeping it is that a lot of people who actually are east asian in this fandom like it (the first time I heard of it was from ashes-and-ashes on tumblr who is east asian herself).

james also has adhd. it's a pre-established thing, it's not really a plot line at all so it'll only get brought up when it's relevant, just thought I'd say now so no one's confused as I have no idea when it'll get explicitly mentioned or talked about.

this fic plays into a few stereotypes that I wasn't aware of until long after I created the plot points. the main one being the fact that ruth is black and her father isn't around. I was literally 11 when I made this up and I had no idea this stereotype existed. however now I know better (thank fuck). im not going to change it for the only reason that it's for the plot (its actually quite important but more on that later). so im just going to apologise for that in advance.

I wanted to make this as canon as possible when I first started this, but now I don't care. I am throwing all caution to the wind and letting you know now: THEY DO NOT DIE AT THE END this is going to have a happy ending or so help me god

oh brotherrrrrr nobody cares about reading all that i just wanted you to tag your hate and stop playing ship police. there’s no one “given” way to interpret batcat esp because comics are not the only medium for them unlike bt. people are likelier to see batcat as “endgame” (whatever that means) because some people ship them in the coming reevesverse or the nolanverse or they engage with other works where bruce doesn’t have 10 billion other love interests like the comics. there are just too many interpretations of batcat for you to pigeonhole their dynamics in any which way and they will continue to shift and change as decades pass. as for the wedding, many newcomers were disappointed about the way it was handled and that’s just natural considering the way it was set up. anybody else would be just as upset by such a thing occurring for their own ship. not that serious for you to be ranting about how batcat fans don’t understand their ship when most of them are just joking around about endgames and they do know the ship is never going to be together forever. even clois doesn’t have that guarantee in comics. hopefully you’ll stop writing 5 page essays on here and twitter now.

it's absurd to get so pissy over an ask the wording of which i had no control over 😭 and you're the one not censoring here so this will end up in the tag again (i tried to copy-paste this into my askbox and censor on my own but for some reason when i tried half of your ask got cut off because of a character limit. maybe it's a desktop thing). whenever i talk about bc otherwise (and there are plenty of times i do because i enjoy their relationship) i censor the ship precisely because i don't want to end up in the tags. this has been my consistent practice for everything since i moved here. the fact that one (1) post inadvertently ended up in the tag because an anon forgot to censor and it incited this relentless of an interrogation from you is ridiculous. it's not ship hate to analyze the reductive way in which people engage with dc love interests at large or the way that core tenets of female characters by their creators have been obscured over time due to the evolving priorities of writers or the restrictive nature of adaptations. would it be ship hate to discuss how levitz wrote a bc marriage in the 70s only to kill selina within the same comic so that her imaginary daughter figure could be propped up for the next decade at the expense of any development or further introspection for her? why is it ship hate when someone analyzes the misogynist reduction and obscurity enacted upon her in narrative due to her relationship with bruce but it's not ship hate when someone logically (and rightfully) does the same thing with talia?

Ok I cannot suppress the urge to elaborate on how I think a Hellboy TV show should go.

First off, it's a mockumentary WWDITS style slice of life type thing that occasionally goes a little Ghost Hunters-y/Paranormal Activity because you can't do Hellboy without a few eldritch abominations.

The BPRD is a little cagey at first about letting the doc crew along on operations tho so for a good few episodes it would cut from briefing to people getting back and vaguely explaining what happened (allegedly, the agents aren't technically allowed to talk to the crew and HB himself is an unreliable narrator)

Eventually tho the crew manage to get permission to tag along, and there's a few cool fight sequences, etc.

But it's mostly Hellboy getting his ass handed to him by monsters and ending up in stupid situations, and if he does end up doing something that looks cool there's a running gag of it almost never being caught on camera.

Out of budget safety concerns, the show still mostly sticks to their downtime and behind the scenes stuff.

There's an episode where they're trying to track down something paranormal in the woods and Hellboy will not stop making Blair Witch jokes.

One episode he spends far too long introducing every single one of his cats. (Sorry, I mean the exact right amount of time introducing all of his cats. Most of that episode's graphics budget goes toward profiling the cats.)

Abe and Hellboy act like morons whenever they're not officially on record and keep forgetting they're on camera. Liz goes along with their nonsense more often than she'd like to admit.

Unfortunately for the crew, the three of them pretty much speak exclusively in references to past events and in-jokes, which makes most of their conversations borderline incomprehensible to outside observers.

Also Liz won't speak directly to the camera, and Abe keeps forgetting that the microphones can't pick up telepathy.

Hellboy keeps nicknaming the camera guys and messing with the production assistants. Also he makes up his own names for most of the creatures they encounter and comes up with nonsense 'folklore' that blatantly contradicts whatever the Bureau's experts are saying but he insists is more true than 'any of that crap'.

Speaking of which, trying to get Hellboy to tone down his language for TV is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. The editor is nearly out of censor tones.

Hi! Would it be possible to ask for you to stop using asterisks to censor words in your posts? It stops people from being able to filter them out if there's content they don't want to see. (Obviously you don't have to do what some rando online says, I swear I'm not telling you what to do - I just thought I'd ask in case that was something you were open to changing.) Thanks! :)

I've gotten this before and the answer is no, because if I don't use an asterisk in a ship name, then it will pop up in the search tags for people who are looking for the ship. I also only censor two things: ships and slurs. Slurs get tagged with the most common shorthand (generally the first letter, e.g. 'n word', 'c slur', 'w slur', etc.). Ships... don't.

I have not yet found an option that lets blacklists catch the ship name without it accidentally ending up in ship searches, and I'm not going to be the person accidentally crosstagging ship negativity.

If you can find a way to tag so that the blacklist catches it and search function doesn't, I'm all ears. Until that point, I'm erring on the side of 'not being the asshole putting anti-ship content in the ship tag.'

What is GaaLee Hallo-week? How does it work?

GaaLee Hallo-week is basically a Halloween-themed ship week for the pairing Gaara/Rock Lee. Each day from Oct. 24 - 30th, there will be different prompts to fill. There are (at least!) two prompts per day: a spooky prompt and a sweet prompt, riffing off the idea of trick-or-treat. There is no sign-up and no obligation. Creations for this event can be fanfic, fanart, playlists, icon sets, panel edits, moodboards, memes, closet cosplay, or any other fannish pursuit you can think of! As long as it features the GaaLee pairing and fits a prompt, it counts!

Sounds great! How do I participate?

There’s no sign-up for this event, and it’s open to everyone. On the appropriate day, simply post your creation on Tumblr, indicate which prompt you’re filling, and tag the @gaalee-events blog! How do the Movie Night / Scary Stories / Free Day prompts work?

In the second half of the week, let your imagination run wild! You can be inspired by the suggested movies, images, or quotes, or you can create something for the overall theme of “Movie Night” or “Scary Stories”. For the final day of the event, you can create whatever your heart desires, as long as it’s scary or sweet, and GaaLee-themed! As with the previous days, you can also use “Trick-or-Treat” as your prompt and create something based on that.

What are the minimum requirements for a prompt fill?

This is left open to the individual participant’s discretion. If you feel that what you created meets the prompt, then it counts! A single creation can only count for one day, but it may be inspired by one or both prompts on that day. (For example, you could create something for October 25th to fit the prompt “Demons”, or “Demons and Deities”, but not “Demons” and “Nightmares”.) You can create multiple creations for a single prompt or a single day. If you make something that has multiple components, like a multichapter fic or a multipage comic, each chapter/comic page/etc. can be counted towards a different day/prompt, as long as they’re posted on the correct day and fit one of the prompts for that day.

Do I have to participate in all seven days? Do I have to fill every prompt?

Not at all! You can fill just one prompt on just one day, you can fill multiple prompts across multiple days, or you can fill all the prompts on all seven days. Think of this event like that bowl of candy on your neighbor’s porch that’s labeled ‘Take One’ -- you can do whatever you like with it; nobody’s going to stop you. That being said, if you do create something for all seven days, you’ll be in the Monster’s Ball, which sounds very cool but really just means that your creations will be listed at the top of the event wrap-up summary in a fancy text box.

Does everything I make have to be Halloween-themed?

Nope! While we’ll all be getting in the mood for Halloween, ghosts, ghouls, and pumpkins don’t need to feature in your creation. As long as you feel like your creation fits one of the prompts, it counts. That being said, we’d love to see the fandom flex their horror muscles and go full Spooky Season on us. Bring on the blood and guts!

I have something I’m already working on that fits one of the prompts, can I use it for this event?

Yes, with a couple of caveats! The creation must be new and posted on the date of the prompt that it was created for. If you already have a partially published project and something new you’ve created for it fits one of the prompts, that can absolutely count. For example, if you’re writing a 20-page comic about a haunted house, and you post a new page on Oct. 24th, you can count that for the prompt “Haunted House”. If you say you created something with this event in mind, we’ll take your word for it. The only other restriction is that if you’re creating your project for a different event (such as an exchange, ship week, theme week, big bang, etc.) and it also happens to meet one of the GaaLee Hallo-week prompts, you should check the other event’s rules to ensure they don’t have any restrictions on counting a single work towards multiple events.

Are there restrictions about what kinds of content can be created for this event?

Because of the Halloween theme, it’s to be expected that some works might be transgressive, upsetting, or triggering. However, we want this event to be enjoyable for as many people as possible! We ask that you use caution and consideration in your creations and be mindful of the ways that traditionally ‘scary’ tropes have been used to harm marginalized groups. Tag judiciously and use your best judgment. Be wary of ableism, such as using a person’s mental illness or physical disability as a scare factor or to make them seem more monstrous or mysterious. This does not mean you can’t create works with or about disabled or neurodivergent characters, simply be mindful of how those characteristics are portrayed and the role they serve in your work. Avoid transphobia, such as portraying a male character in a woman’s costume for laughs or using a character’s trans identity to make them seem villainous. (Lookin’ at you, Buffalo Bill.) This doesn’t mean your characters can’t explore gender roles! But it’s important to be thoughtful and intentional about how you portray transgender characters in a horror setting. I want to ask whether the copies that were posted on someone's weibo claiming that the physical copy comes with extra chapters with more sex scenes? Is it real? I haven't seen them myself yet but I've heard they sound like an Ao3 fanfic. Do they really come with the physical copy or is it just a rumor?

I can’t say for sure if it’s original or not, to be honest. it comes in a physical PIRATED copy, that’s important to note. next, the AO3 comment on that Weibo post isn’t accurate. It just seems like a person disagreeing and using a point that’s hard to prove because AO3 is blocked. I’ve read every single TYK fic in AO3 when the drama was launched i was (so thirsty for fic! so I have a fresh memory regarding the actual TYK fics (novel, not drama fans tagging everything under the sun) and I also checked AO3 after the comment.

very long answer, hiding behind a cut so people who aren’t interested don’t get a wall of text. 

I’ve also read TYK porn on AO3 when I first finished the novel. It’s basically my go-to habit? Finish reading a Priest novel, go on AO3 to look for fan-written missing sex scenes to fill in the gaps. This wasn’t as recent (last year) but I’m fairly sure I did not read these fic before either. This isn’t to say that it can’t be fic of course, just that I didn’t find it on AO3. 

Next, TYK is actually one of Priest’s earlier novels and it was never really that popular. so there were never that many editions printed (TW and CN once each if I recall correctly). This version is definitely pirated, but it doesn’t mean everything in it is fake. The thing is, because TYK was never really very popular, there aren’t many hardcore fans who can remember stuff from that long ago.

One thing about Priest is that she posts her novel extras across many places. So for e.g. the printed novels have extra chapters that’s not on JJWXC. She also has a lofter account with some chapters of SPL (not in the English fan translation), and sometimes it goes on Weibo. AND she usually offers something new in her printed novels. The ones on JJWXC and in print aren’t free, while those on Lofter/Weibo are. 

Why does that matter? Because something that is censored on JJWXC would show up as “locked” but on Weibo etc, we wouldn’t know if there was something there at some point.

In my “research”, I’ve found all but 1 missing bonus chapter for TYK, and the ones I found are not the same as in the pirated novel. 

Her style of writing has changed over the years (this novel is 10 years or 11 years old now). She writes a lot less sexy bits these days and she’s never even written a lot to begin with (but she used to write a little more than she does now). But she always avoids writing actual sex (of any kind). The stuff I shared from OP’s Weibo is on the smuttier(st) end of her range (imo), but still not explicit. While it’s quite extreme by Priest’s standards, I still found it within the realm of possibility. 

CN fans (actually maybe all fans) always joke that they always get the gong/shou wrong for Priest novels, but actually Priest has a type that’s true about 99% of the time.

Although Priest is one of the most balanced danmei authors (in terms of CP dynamics) out there, she’s still a Chinese writer. I’ve read her het romance (Bandits) as well, and her CP dynamics are exactly the same between het and slash (female being the shou). 

The gong is always, always the possessive or jealous type (it’s just whether it’s the cute kind - Lu Bixing or the slightly creepy kind Chang Geng). The shou isn’t the type to actually get jealous seriously (because they know the gong loves them, they may allude to being jealous in a fun, teasing way). The shou is always very “strong” (physical prowess, but also mentally obvs). With the exception of TYK (arguably Can Ci Pin in the middle), the shou/female is more powerful (martial arts, or whatever) than the gong/male. there’s more but i’ll just stop here on this point.

The main thing is that the characterisation in those bonus chapters are fairly on point as to how Priest likes her couples. 

tl:dr; it can’t be proven definitively either way unless someone hassles Priest to ask. 

I’ve asked some CN friends who are somewhat-Priest fans on this as well, they basically just echoed that there are more chapters in Priest’s printed novels. They don’t really know or care too much though. The overall sentiment is: “if you like it, take it for real” and “if you don’t like it, then don’t believe it then”. So that’s all the advice I can give as well :)

that’s ranboo’s song in ycssgwtlfs. i tried so many times to make it a chapter title, from 14-20 especially, in the comments on my planning doc there were like 5 separate comments that were lyrics from it. but it was more encompassing than one chapter and so it didn’t make it. that’s why im talking about it.

i think it’s fairly clear that ranboo reaches a point of passive suicidality, but if it isn’t, that is part of the story. they so deeply stop caring about themself, they stop being afraid of everything being over, they’re passive to the idea of finally working themself to death. it’s just something that might happen.

anyways now i will make you look at specific lines (keep in mind that it’s all my own interpretations of the song):

gonna connect this straight to their realizing that their dreams at SPU, for their future, for being who they want to be are never going to be their reality. and further back, the same hopes when they were much younger, the holding on desperately to the idea of things improving slowly slipping away as time went on, the longer they were isolated, the more they realized that no one loved them. there is a genuine question of how they survived that the first time. and they wouldn’t have the second time without what happened in the fifth floor bathroom.

it’s a line about getting help, that you have to get help to survive. fairly self explanatory, the idea that it’s the only way to be okay, the idea of why do you have to survive.

i know its my fic, but i think a lot about in chapter 20, the lines “They wanted to be done, they wanted to give up, they were done, they were giving up...” because that would’ve been the start of the end, not because they would’ve directly killed themself, but there would be no level of trying anymore, nothing pushing them to do anything for themself. they would have failed their classes. they would’ve had to leave SPU. they would have had literally nothing and no reason or resources for turning things around.

now i like to think that they would’ve gotten help eventually still, it was established multiple times that there were people who wanted to help, but its hard to say. its hard to say if they would’ve been findable. its hard to say if anyone would’ve gotten any closure in what happened to them, how much guilt they all would feel, and what everyone would’ve lost.

we dont really have to consider that. but it was and to an extent still is that tommy and tubbo tried, hoped, kept going in the way ranboo couldn’t, taking care of them in the ways that they couldn’t even consider taking care of themself. they werent drinking water before that, that’s something so basic from anyone who cares in the slightest. they are doing the basics now, but there are other needs that they still dont/dont know how to meet for themself, and while it isnt tommy and tubbo inherent responsibility to help with that, they choose to, and they will continue to, and it’s going to be a long time before ranboo doesnt have to try to care for themself and it comes more naturally.

The main reason I honestly made this side blog is because I have some very intense ~feelings~ about M+gatron (censoring so negativity doesn’t pop up in his tag) and his treatment of certain characters. At first I was very uneasy when reading MTMTE and I never understood why. I mean, everyone else was chirping about the ex con turned bot, as well as the fun shenanigans/dynamics of the crew, but something shook me. I ended up shoving it aside to thoroughly enjoy the fan circles I participated in (something I still do to be frank) and keep from upsetting others given the topic sensitivity.

Reading back I realize what bothered me so much the first time: M eg@tron. His treatment of Rodimus, how that reflects his past treatment of Starscream. Seeing Starscream petrified at the trial, seeing Rodimus get constantly berated, loomed over, his accomplishments squashed or simply taken credit for by the ex warlord in question. This never stops. Throughout the entire comic series once the warlord is on the ship he goes out of his way to actively mock/vilify Rodimus to his crew. Constantly. It has its impact. The captain, now “co-captain”, after thoroughly dealing with being treated like shit by C0ptimus Prime, is dragged through the ringer even further and isolated from people. Something I never really picked up on the first read through despite the uneasiness I felt at the familiar situation.

Of course, I wouldn’t have expected an instant redemption type deal, but what messed with me the most is that this is never pointed out as anything bad. Many readers, and even the crew too, take M€g@tron’s words for truth, take his depiction of Rodimus as the truth. They even have “inside jokes” about it. “Ultra Magnus” is one of the first to seemingly take the warlord’s side on these things, being in full agreement. Not once do we see anyone side with Rodimus. He gets openly berated for being in a state of shock over seeing his own corpse (something the berater in question punches Perceptor in the face for the second it seems like he may be facing a similar dilemma, yet Rodimus is called weak/pathetic/etc for being mortified at the sight of his own body. This sort of hypocrisy from the ex con repeats in many scenarios when he is going after our fiery bot actually.) Optics are rolled at him, no one speaks in his defense. This isn’t the first nor last time he is spoken down to over simply having emotions. And in fact, later we see him openly mocked by two crew members over a traumatic experience of having his own body turned inside out. Something that happened because he was risking his life to save the prisoners aboard the ship. And he got mocked for it. Yet he hardly lashes out,often times he somewhat caves on himself, becoming resigned to deal with the treatment.

If I ever were to sketch out a “proper” redemption, him continually repeating this horrific old behaviors wouldn’t be something accepted by the others. It sickens me that that is how it went. Bots found amusement in it, they bonded with him over him… being more so like his old self with the aggressive body language, the shouting, the condescension, trying to shove bots into “their place” as clearly he is “the leader/more superior”. As it stands I’m very disgusted by the route things went. I’m disgusted by how fans praise what I recognize as abusive behavior I personally have been put through. It’s always justified by people saying “well, Rodimus IS a petulant selfish child” when M€gs is right there throwing a tantrum. Not to mention, Rodimus is a flawed character, yes, but he does his best when being held up to IMPOSSIBLE standards. Everyone, including himself and 0ptimus, expect him to be like the other Prime in question. He takes a different stance to try and help his crew, he messes up just like the leaders before him, and he does his best to learn from it even when he has doubts or moments of stubbornness. He is desperate to be good, to help people, he goes out of his way to attempt this and does not flinch away from the idea of self sacrifice. (See: Killswitch scene, Sunder scene, etc.) sure, he’s impulsive, hot headed, but are we really going to ignore all of the good he’s done too? He’s a flawed character, all of the transformers are actually, that doesn’t mean he deserved the treatment we saw in MTMTE/LL and I stand by that.

If you disagree then simply ignore this post. This is primarily an explanation on my feelings, and this blog. I do not necessarily hate M*gs but I am severely critical of his actions and behaviors even on his road to “pacifism/redemption”. This is just my space where I can speak on that

1. What is ShoVin Week?

ShoVin Week 2021 is an fan-organized event to celebrate the ship (Kevin Reynolds x Jennifer Shope) from Supernoobs in all shapes, ways, and forms! Because of this, we expect that Kevin and Shope and their relationship (romantic, friendship, comrades, or anything you like) to be the focus of the works you submit. While we will not stop the creative juices of anyone and everyone will be able to add their work to the hashtag(#shovinweek2021), we reserve the right to not share/reblog submissions that do not follow the guidelines or that are deemed to be controversial.

2. Is it exclusive to ShoVin? Can l add more ships?

It is okay to add other characters or ships as long as they don't take away the spotlight Kevin and Shope. We also strongly discourage any reference to a love triangle or as a comparison to another ship (for better or for worse) in order to prevent "ship wars" from starting. The only exception to this is fanfiction because it's a more forgiving medium that allows for more nuance than an ima or comic may have, as well being less prone to get virally shared in a way that could hurt creators. Poly ships in which Kevin and Shope are in a relationship with another person(s) but focus on Kevin and Shope are okay.

3. What types of works can be submitted?

All types of fan content will be accepted. This means fanart, fanfiction (in any language), edits, fancams, cosplay, crafts, and more. There are no standards for what can be submitted. That means you don't have to be a professional or experienced artist, all skill levels are accepted. There is also no expectations on what medium or how finished is a fanart or comic. Fully colored illustrations, sketches, drabbles, black-and-white, digital or traditional art, they are all valid and welcome. Note: If you do edits, video edits, fancams, etc. please do not use other people's fanarts unless they have given you written permission to use it.

4. How do I submit a work to ShoVin Week 2021?

dailyshovin will share or reblog your work if you use the appropriate tags, but only in Tumblr and Instagram, as those are the only social media we have so far. You will need to use at least one of these for us to see your submission to reblog/retweet it!

I am anti-censorship

I lived through the days when concerned moms were trying to ban Judy Blume’s books, burn D&D manuals for “Satanic messages,” pull any trace of scientifically accurate sexual health texts (”that encourages teen sex!”), and utterly lost their shit at the harmless “And Tango Makes Three” (about two RL pairbonded male penguins who adopt a orphaned chick). 

I come from a hardcore, conservative, military town that did its damndest to censor, ban, and squash ANY discussion of many topics.  Add the tail end of the Cold War where ANY discussion of politics to the left of Reagan was considered anti-American and how DARE you look at such filth.

Fanfic and fandom were a place where I could talk about uncomfortable topics, or express feelings about the stuff everyone knew was happening but no one wanted to talk about (like Gulf War sickness). It was the only place that treated guys loving guys or gals loving gals as something that wasn’t inherently disgusting, or talked about differing political schools of thought like anarchism and democratic socialism. Or learn about different religions, like Wicca, Buddhism, and even the difference between atheism, agnosticism, and secular humanism. All the above were things that could NOT be discussed outside of fandom. 

Therefore, I am vehemently anti-censorship. Hardcore. Let the knowledge be out there, no matter how unpleasant, disgusting, controversial, etc. Because experience tells me the instant some crusader starts whipping out the red pen, they do not STOP marking things up. 

So even if there’s plenty of stuff I will not want to touch with a ten meter cattle prod, much less read, there is no way in hell I will call for ANY form of censorship other than “tag your shit” and “put it behind the appropriate filters”

Honestly it wasn’t a fic or anything, it was actually, this blinding beam of sunshine’s-  ( @carolineforbae ) comment on my fic ‘It’s a Touch Regrettable’

 This queen left a whole rant underneath the fic, unadulterated emotions flowing and spilling,Just the memory of it makes me wanna curl up on a warm bed of grass and weave flower garlands, that comment’s screenshot is actually my phone’s lockscreen picture. I’m not kidding.

 I’m in a healthy happy married relationship with that comment and we were actually wondering about kids just yesterday, so yeah.

Ok anon, sorry for taking so long! I wanted to get everything right and honestly collecting the posts took a longass time xD

Anyways, the only ones I have a problem there are avatar-chang, hexful/dykesia/bizukos, catrademption, cardboardseagulls (never seen interacted b4) and bizulas (also never interacted b4).

I’m going to be really transparent about this whole thing so it’s gonna be long as there’s gonna be several links and I’ve included the dates so it’ll be easier to understand. Since I’ll be fully transparent about this, i’ll probably get hate or whatever. Honestly, I just want to put everything out there without being biased or hiding anything. I’m going to disclose everything here.

So, the whole thing between me and avatar-chang started off with this post I made last year on 10 March 2019. Afterwards, she PMed me on the same day and this was the conversation:

After that, I thought the argument was over because she blocked me lmao. The only ones I spoke to about this was nbw and my real life friends (who had nothing to do with ATLA lmao I just ranted to them).

And then the next incident I think was on 16 March 2019 when I made this post about Azula’s abuse of her friends. I was new and 16. I genuinely wanted to know why people labeled Azula as an abuser. It was dykesia who responded to me at the time.

Now, unlike avatar-chang, I had a few conversations with dykesia (who was bizukos then) that was generally civil. I first interacted with her when she made a post calling out Zucest shippers or something?? I was very new. Like fresh newbie baby ATLA tumblr fan new lmao so I thought what she said was too aggressive. I didn’t realize that there were actual Zucest shippers until after some time. And then she PMed me on 13 March 2019, saying that she doesn’t always agree on characters with me but I do write some interesting pieces on Azula— that she’s a huge fan of Azula but she just tends to stay away from her fandom. I apologized about the previous incident of the Zucest thing and it was fine after then. We talked about zuko, the fandom, the comics, Mai etc etc. I thought we were on fine terms.

And then I made a post about the cliff scene in the comics on 16 March 2019. Avatar-Chang made a post that was pretty directed at the post but it seems like she’s deleted it.

On 17 March 2019, I received an anon mail telling me that avatar-chang was talking shit about me behind my back. I censored her name then because I didn’t want to believe without any evidence. No one sent me any screenshots about it so I just dismissed it.

On the same day, avatar-chang answered an anon and talked about the 13 child post theory I made on 9 March.

On 23 April 2019, I received another anon mail about avatar-chang, asking if I’d seen the post she made about Azula. I censored her name again cuz I didn’t want to start any shit over having differing opinions. I’m assuming this is the post the anon was referring to.

On 28 April 2019, dykesia/hexful/bizukos PMed me to ask if I was talking shit about other people behind their backs, and her. I denied this because I hadn’t. This was how the conversation went:

Yes, I didn’t censor any name because as I said, full transparency. I have afp blocked because we’ve clashed several times and he’d still come for my posts last year despite already being blocked. If you’ve followed me long enough, you probably would’ve rmbered that time lmao

Anyways during then, I don’t think I realized that dykesia was actually being passive aggressive. It’d been barely a year since I started the blog and I just didn’t want to full out make enemies. Reading the messages now tho lmao she really was passive aggressive. But yeah then she said this in bsg so I don’t even know why she bothered to ask me if she wasn’t even going to consider believing me.

The 9th of June 2019 was the last time she messaged and it was to ask if I mind her discoursing this Zuko post while ‘hard and drunk’. It was the first time she could apparently agree with me so it was I quote a ‘Yay??’. Afterwards I don’t know when she did it but she blocked me lmao

On 17 July 2019, I received another anon mail telling me that avatar-chang publicly called me a bitch when she was answering an anon about me posting the scans of the EK Chronicles. She mentioned this in bsg again on 19 April 2020 lmao (she’s that petty) it seems:

On November 8 2019, an anon (one of avatar-chang’s friends actually) asked about my thoughts towards the allegations against Aaron Ehasz. I still believe in the system of ‘Innocent before proven guilty’, so I didn’t side with anyone. I tried to be as objective as possible. When I said that I hoped men would also come forward, I said that because I don’t want men to just sit on the sidelines and let the women get the heat if they were telling the truth. At the end of this whole thing, I concluded that Ehasz was a dick of a boss to the girls. Being called an abuser carries more weight than just being a dick. Everyone has been a dick at one point, but being an abuser is something else. Just because Ehasz was a dick doesn’t mean I’m going to stop watching TDP or dismiss his involvement in ATLA.

The next day, BSG brought the issue up despite both avatar-chang having already blocked me by then lmao

On 5 February 2020, after Legacy of the Fire Nation came out, I made a post calling out Iroh’s bs to Azula (guy literally blames Azula for everything that happened to Zuko (something which avatar-chang agrees with apparently, and Iroh even sees Ozai in a better light).

That’s so far what I’ve remembered that involved avatar-chang and dykesia.

Moving on to the next three attackers: catrademption, cardboardseagulls and bizulas.

I’ve seen catrademption around, but I don’t remember if we’ve clashed before. We must have though cuz she’s got me blocked lmao and I mostly only debate back to people when they reply to my posts. For cardboardseagulls and bizulas, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them them before but obviously they’ve seen my blog and misinterpreted everything I’ve written.

But according to them, I’m apparently a Azula apologist, extremist, irrational, toxic, coddles and woobifies Azula, justifies everything she does and invalidates abuse victims.

You can see the posts I’ve made to judge whether I actually am an irrational Azula apologist who blames everything on Zuko. One of the most recent posts I made about Azula’s character is this, and there’s still several more posts like that. Just search #meta or #analysis in my blog search and all of them will just pop up. I can assure you, I have never acted as if Azula has done nothing wrong or did everything right or whatever lies these people are spewing.

If anyone has proof that I’ve talked shit about people in the fandom to other people before, please, present your evidence. I highly think this is impossible because I actually don’t have many friends on Tumblr, nor do I usually initiate conversation because I’m awkward af.

I’ve also tried approaching those I recognized in bsg to find out more about the situation (and at least give my side of the story). Most of them have chosen not to speak to me LMAO but one of them who’s chosen to remain anonymous for their privacy, admitted that dykesia (hexful) forced them to block a blog before (after realizing they were interacting with said blog) and if not, they would be blocked themselves. I can’t post the conversation publicly because they’re afraid their speech mannerism will give away their identity. @space-sword has also shared his experience with avatar-chang on his blog and was pressured to cut off ties with ppb21 just to join the oh so magnificent Ba Sing Gay.

There’s absolutely no reason to judge someone based on their sexual orientation, race, color or age either. They rant about being discriminated against or being generalized or stereotypes but they’re the ones hypocritically committing these actions, and then justify their actions by saying ‘we’re oppressed, they’re not, so it’s not racism or discrimination’. And yet people still wonder why discrimination is still rampant LMAO

I can’t speak for the blogs they victimized in bsg, but I personally don’t agree with talking shit about them on a public server and then criminalizing them as if they’re actually predators. I also don’t agree with involving the blogs’ friends simply because of their association. I also don’t agree with demanding people to block blogs they don’t like because that’s just pure manipulation. That’s wrong and marginalizing people. Unless someone has actually been harassing or literally preying on people, then there’s no reason to actually go around warning blogs about them unless they’re asked about it.

If they feel uncomfortable about something? Then avoid that blog, filter their tags or even block that blog if they’re that uncomfortable—BUT they shouldn’t demand others to do the same just for their own benefit. It’s not up to them to decide what a person can or cannot see or who they can or cannot interact with. They’re not their parents, and they obviously have no right to pressure people into doing things they don’t want to. If they think it tactless that I shared the conversations? Oh honestly, a line was crossed when they spread shit about me so idc. If they actually feel terrible for being called out? GOOD. That’s what they should feel, because in no way was any of what they were doing right or justified. If they’re going to shit on me then expect to be burned because I’m not someone who’ll just shrivel in fear because they have a bigger following.
