They share many characteristics of living cells while lacking the ability to divide and grow.

That non-replication part is important. For artificial cells to be useful, they need to be carefully controlled, and that can't happen as easily if they're propagating in the same way that actual cells do.

The researchers behind the new development think these cyborgs could have a huge variety of applications, from improving treatments for diseases like cancer to cleaning up pollution through targeted chemical processes.

"The cyborg cells are programmable, do not divide, preserve essential cellular activities, and gain nonnative abilities," says biomedical engineer Cheemeng Tan from the University of California, Davis.

Have y'all watched one of my all time favorite movies? 2004's "Cellular" starring Chris Evans. It's amazing, it's basically a period piece and I think everyone should see it. Like it's an action movie that hinges on cell phone usage. The entire movie is like "THESE CELLULAR TELEPHONES SURE ARE USEFUL!!!"

At one point he goes through a TUNNEL and almost LOSES HIS SIGNAL! It's amazing. A work of art. I try to watch it once a year.

He spends the entire film like this

as someone who works in cellular sales, i cannot say enough how big of a scam being on a postpaid plan with a cell company is.

if u don't know, postpaid is when a cellular company runs ur credit so you can finance devices through them, it also comes with additional perks like streaming services at a discount and getting good promotional trade in value on a new phone, like the 'on us' phone promos.

there are activation fees. upgrade fees. reconnect fees. late fees. plans on postpaid are inherently more expensive, usually double the price of a prepaid one. sometimes they add benefits to your plan without even telling you. sales reps are taught how to get the most money out of u every time you enter a store. for example, i make $12 an hour plus commission. my whole livelihood is based on how much i can get someone to spend. i have seen reps sneak things on to customer's accounts to get the commission for it. or add things to a customer's invoice without telling them.

do not finance your phone through anyone. buy second hand. research cheaper phone models. look for a good sale. save up. i promise you, that 'free phone' Verizon or whoever is offering you is costing you way more than the phone's worth through fees and plan cost.
