So, since I've watched The Color Purple (2023) I've been listening to What About Love on repeat and like, yeah this is a duet about two black women in love and this is a famous Broadway musical about Celie's growth and two black women in love, this is a huge deal and the best thing ever. I'm Brazilian and have never read the book, but my sister did and she said Celie and Shug's relationship is even more integral to the book and soon I will be reading too. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that this makes me so giddy and when I listen to them singing the chorus I feel all sort of things in my heart, I'm obsessed.

something I really liked in the new color purple was shug’s protectiveness of celie. like her “watch yourself!” towards albert when he was getting aggressive towards celie

Yes, it is very important that we see their relationship come to fruition as it was meant to be. I'm glad that the most recent Broadway adaptation made that clear as well. It is a beautiful and integral part of this story.
We need to celebrate Celie and Shug.

I have not watched The Color Purple yet, I think I’m gonna wait till I read the book, but a lot of y’all are unserious per usual. I haven’t seen it a lot, thank god, but there are idiots claiming that an “agenda” is going on cuz Shug and Celie are together. Ion know what to tell y’all cuz they were together in the book and in the og version. Same sex relationships pre-date slavery and always have. It is not a European concept like a lot of homophobic ppl claim especially since it was largely demonized by Europeans. It truly doesn’t take long to look into this but y’all don’t want to. You just wanna talk out the side of your neck.
