I found Hailey's on It to be quite enjoyable, and I even gave it a chance before the show started to become more focused on the story. Overall, I liked the show and its premise, and I think others might enjoy it as well. Despite the fact that I didn't initially expect it to be my cup of tea, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys light-hearted comedies.
As an avid fan of The Owl House, I cannot deny that I was initially somewhat disappointed when the show's conclusion was announced. However, I did not let my feelings of bitterness and resentment cloud my judgment and prevent me from giving Hailey's on It, despite my initial reservations, a fair chance. I am pleased to say that I found the new show to be both refreshing and enjoyable, and I am excited about its new and unique concepts.
Unfortunately, it appears that many people have not yet given the show a proper chance, which is a shame, as it truly is a hidden gem.
I would like to take this opportunity to recommend Hailey's on It, that is available to stream on Disney+ right now. If you are a fan of shows that are able to maintain a balance between humor and heart, then this is definitely the series for you. I can speak from personal experience when I say that Hailey's on It is a truly enjoyable show that is worth your time and attention. So, so yourself a favor and check it out!
Also failing to watch and support current cartoons can have a negative impact on the animation industry as a whole. If we continue to ignore these shows, we are not only depriving ourselves of quality entertainment, but we also run the risk of missing out on future series that could be just as great as the ones we loved as children. By supporting modern-day cartoons, we are ensuring that new ones will continue to be created, enabling the industry to thrive and for talented animators and writers to bring their stories to life.
I must emphasize the importance of supporting modern-day cartoons. It's easy to get caught up in the nostalgia of the cartoons we grew up with, but failing to give current shows a chance is not only bad for the industry, but it also deprives viewers of quality entertainment.
By supporting modern-day cartoons, we are not only ensuring the survival of the animation industry, but we are also giving talented animators, writers, and voice actors the opportunity to tell their stories. These stories can often be incredibly powerful and moving, and they can provide a sense of comfort, inspiration, or simply a much-needed escape from reality.
The unique and diverse storytelling present in modern-day cartoons is something we shouldn't take for granted. With the rise of representation in media, more and more stories are being told from a variety of different perspectives, which can help to promote empathy and understanding among our viewers.
It's crucial that we give modern-day cartoons a chance and show them our support. By doing so, we can ensure the continuation of quality entertainment, and we can also help to foster creativity and representation in the industry, which are both vital for the long-term success of animation.
I'm glad YouTube recommended this video to me because I was curious about the premise from reading the comment section and honestly this is quite a hidden gem show.
The premise is basically Bennett Bramble travels back in time as conscious to his 11 year old self to teach him how to be a better person in general as within his future despite being a super genius billionaire lives a lonely miserable life.
Sure the art style definitely makes people hesitate to watch the show but I assure you that it's worth watching. As well sure the show is produced by a Mormon TV network but from what I watch I don't see any single religious preachiness related within the story.
It honestly has many emotional and heart warming moments that make the show much special in my eyes. I really love the family aspect between the Brambles. You'll definitely love the banter between both young and old Bennett.
Here's a link of all available episodes from their official website though you definitely need to use VPN if you lived outside of the USA like me.
I threw together a Show / Movie recommendation template so I can find more stuff to watch!!!
PLEASE feel free to fill this out and reblog from me so I can find more cool shows/films!! (hopefully i'll have time to watch them RIP) Or repost with credit :) Anyone can modify/expand it however they want too! Here are some of my recommendations:
I'm so in love with everything about your art!! I wanted to ask something about your MLP human designs in particular. all of them have really lovely and interesting face shapes/details. even though all the pony designs have the same head molds (save for eye shape), all the unique characteristics you gave them just... look RIGHT. is there a particular method or design principle you used? thanks for your time!! I can't wait to see more of your work!
It's all about shape language and how they inform a person's read on the character.
I talked about this before, but each of the Main 6 were paired together so I could design them in contrast with each other. For RD, I wanted her short hair to have a wind-swept look, as if she's constantly running. So bare forehead and hair spiking out at the bottom. She contains lots and lots of sharp lines and shapes to give her the look of a speeding arrow.
Felice, on the other hand, droops down a lot to reflect her solemn, shy disposition. I didn't want her hair to be perfectly straight though, as that'd suggest she spends a lot of time fretting over it and isn't outdoorsy, so I made it a bit of a tangled mess too.
In short, RD's features are sharp and point upwards, Felice's features are round and droop downwards. (Think Joshua tree vs. weeping willow.)
For these two, I specifically wanted to include non-Western facial features, as I found I haven't really included them in my character designs up until now.
Pinkie's bold and loud, so I gave her bold eyes, bold eyebrows, a bold nose, etc. I worked on Thea's nose for quite a bit and ended up abstracting the shape a bit to look more cartoony, borrowing from Pixar's Soul's character design notes. In cases like these, I recommend finding ways to simplify features and break them down into easily-recognizable shapes and forms (Cartoon Saloon are masters at this). The less visual noise, the easier their expressions are to read! And it's generally more fun to draw.
In short, diversify, exaggerate, and simplify. Figure out what works for you and get a little wacky with it. Character design is all about finding a balance between maintaining your voice and vision and creating something unique and lively.
people have brought up the difference between "this piece of media is good" vs "i like this piece of media". i would also like to mention the third axis "i would easily recommend this piece of media to others"
Please go and support this guy on twitter if you have one and join the fight across all social media to bring Rise back! Post! Make art! Demand for it to come back with Ant Ward, Andy Suriano, OG cast and crew! Scream and @ Nickelodeon and paramount, even Netflix!
We were robbed. We won’t give up! Rise deserves better!
Series/webtoons if you like Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss
Lovely hell
I'll start right away with the probably least known AND best of all - at least in terms of being similar to the universe of HH and HB-.
"Tanz, a powerful creature of pure evil, is vanished to Earth agaist her will. Weak and without a plan, she'll have to rely to Cain, a human, to guide her throught the world and figure a way back to her home: Hell."
First of all, it's a webtoon, so you can read it for free on Webtoon! Created by Tita (stage name Lorsupp), the story takes place in the present day. our protagonists are biblical characters (I won't give spoilers about who Tanz is. Cain, you guys must have already understood...).
This webtoon deserves much more recognition! the story is organic and well-paced, funny and tense when necessary. The characters are super charismatic and have chemistry, the Lore of Hell is super interesting and with a different approach from HH/HB. I love the character design - you can see the evolution of the author's traits as the chapters go by.
It's great to see other ways of approaching well-known characters -like the Jewish/Christian angels and demons-. A emphasis for Gabriel, ahhh this character hahah Anyway, this webtoon is the one I most recommend!
You can read it -> Webtoon account
When Instagram starts working again, I'll share the creator's account here!
Vilanius
This series - with just a few episodes left - is a Mexican animation released for Cartoon Network. Compared to HH's type of humor, here it is much more toned down, as it is aimed at a younger audience.
"Villainous is the story of Black Hat Org., run by Black Hat (whose name is synonymous with villain, a reference to the evil black-hatted cowboys of Western films) and his team of three less evil sidekicks. Black Hat is trying to sell various evil inventions created by Dr. Flug and is desperate to fulfill his evil aspirations. However, things often end badly for him, as brilliant innovations tend to have small and often comical flaws."
The lore has nothing related to the Hell, but it still focuses on the evil side of the story. I love the character designs, very similar to HH. It's worth checking out, even more Latin animation!
The Good Place
A series already consolidated and finished. One of my favorites on Netflix!
Even though it's not exactly Heaven and Hell, the concept is very similar. but what stands out here is the philosophical debate about what is right and wrong, how to be a good person in a world marked by individualism, competition and exploitation so that a person can have the basics to survive? -neoliberalism cough cough-.
"Eleanor Shellstrop wakes up to discover that she has died and entered the afterlife. But when she is told by her mentor Michael that she is in the "Good Place" because of her good deeds, helping to get innocent people off death row, she realizes that a mistake has been made because the people They think she is someone else with the same name."
Question about existentialism, ethics and the meaning of life debated in a fun way! A quick comparison to Bojack Horseman, a series that I love. in The Good Place, the existentialism, life and death are treated in a much more optimistic and... beautiful way, while in Bojack it is pessimistic and heavy. the debates on human existence can have lighter conclusions - this is not a criticism of Bojack, just a different approach.
Guardians of the Mansion of Horror
This recommendation won't have a personal review because... I still need to watch it! but I saw so many people recommending it, saying that it has good LGBT+ representation that I thought it would be interesting to bring it here. If anyone has already watched it and wants to say something about it...
"Guardians of the Mansion of Horror follows friends Barney and Norma as they work at a theme park during the summer. The two take the night shift and are responsible for organizing the place while it is empty. What they didn't expect is that this fun place is actually an interdimensional portal to hell. Suddenly, several supernatural creatures appear to haunt the Earth and the two friends must join forces to stop them. To do this, they receive help from the talking dog, Pugsley."
Inside Job
Here we have the biggest injustice in the history of Netflix, the cancellation of this series! I brought it here because of their type of acidic and critical humor towards society - not that this criticism is present in HH-. An adult animation, with swear words and the same irreverent touch as HH, following the shadow side of society.
"A dysfunctional team working in a hidden government department is tasked with keeping conspiracies around the secret world. From complicated attacks to secret societies, anti-social technology genius Reagan Ridley will need to work in a place full of shapeshifting reptilians and psychic mushrooms, at the same time as she must deal with an unbalanced father, in order to achieve the dream she dreams of. promotion."
Emphasis to the animation itself and the character design. When it comes to other species, we have unique designs, they even resemble the design of demons in HH.
irreverent, intelligent and humorous. 🤌
Good Omens
It's almost a rule, if you watched Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, you also watched Good Omens!
For those who have never given the series a chance, here are some reasons to watch it now: Inspired by Neil Gaiman's work - and approved by him! -!. It is focused entirely on this universe of Jewish/Christian characters - and it is possible to see how well they are studied! There are references that only those who have studied demology or the sacred writings of these religions will understand-
The first season has a wonderful rhythm with captivating characters - the second lacks this a little. The angel and devil couple are super charismatic and you root for them.
Watching some of the biblical events from the point of view of the questioning and sinister demon Crowley and the good lamb Aziraphale is wonderful!
i feel like centaurworld fans often miss the point of the show by pointing to the nowhere king as the main evidence of the show being "edgy" and "mature" or thinking the show should focus more on the serious fantasy aspects, when (IMO) a major theme of the show is that characters who seem silly and carefree on the surface without any "real problems" can also have complex lives and trauma and it's important to empathize with them instead of assuming they can't possibly understand Real Pain or be strong on their own
like the contrast between centaurworld and horse's world is baked into the show's themes, the whole reason the nowhere king exists is because of the mistaken in-universe assumption that centaurs are all childish fools, it's so wild to see people only praise the nowhere king as complex and ignore things like wammawink's compulsive need to take care of her herd due to losing hers as a child, or the goddamn suicide allegory episode.
proper reupload in the high quality this fantastic segment so deserves; eagle pig and duck bias notwithstanding, this will forever be my favorite variant of the fabled switcheroo (and a reminder that Daffy was first at his own game!) the committal on behalf of both characters--especially the sincerity of Daffy's feigned sincerity--really sets it apart
soooooo I recently got into Lego Monkie Kid and I fully highly recommend it, especially for any of my followers into TDP and for anyone generally into anime/animated shows, the visual quality is stunning the voice acting is stellar (Jack De Sena for the AtLA and TDP fans, Sean Schemmel voicing Sun Wukong, loads of other great VAs) and it gets so progressively even more fun/good with each season, starts strong and then keeps going even harder
it deals with journey to the west fast forwarded to a modern setting so in a sense it's like a sequel with all those characters who are immortal plus mortal character's descendants these hundreds of years later in new adventures and contexts (journey to the west knowledge not needed although you might have some already though dragonball or what have you) and it's just chef's kiss
might be said it's a bit like Percy Jackson but with Chinese characters/classic literature
did I mention it's 2D animation and beautiful yes it's a lego show but it's so so good. rivals a lot of anime for production quality
anyway, if you get into it you'll want to start with the season 1 special A Hero Is Born!
Today, I wanted to provide you guys with an amazing cartoon recommendation! This is one especially for fans of shows like Gravity Falls! The cartoon is one from the early 2010s called Detentionaire!
It’s about a high school student named Lee, who, on his first day of tenth grade, gets framed for a huge prank and gets detention for a whole year. Now, he spends every day trying to find out who set him up. However, he soon realizes that the prank was a small component to a huge conspiracy that involves government projects, clones, prophesied events, monsters and even his own family.
If you love shows like Gravity Falls, I would definitely check it out! It is quite similar in terms of the amount of mystery it has in it, and it has a lot of lore. If I were to describe it in any way, I would say it is what you get when you combine Gravity Falls with Total Drama - the characters are all teenagers, but the show has an overarching mystery, and it gets more and more paranormal as it goes on.
One thing I will say is that the first few episodes are a bit slow, which may turn some away, but once it picks up, it is amazing. It is definitely one of the best cartoons of the 2010s, and it deserves more attention, so if you are looking for a new cartoon, I’d check it out!
There are two places where you can legally watch it:
YouTube
Tubi
Also, I just want to say that if there are any cartoons you find underrated, please make me aware! Detentionaire was a series which was screwed over by the network, and this led to it not being too well known. As a fan, I would love nothing more than to see it grow in terms of popularity, and I would also love to give more shows a shot as so many get swept under the radar!
