"Why are we taking public transportation?" Peter groans, leaning his forehead against the window of the bus. He's in civilian clothes, and Steve sits beside him in a very unconvincing buttondown and baseball cap.

"Because that's the best way to hit this mark," Steve says. "I could've sworn Tony already told you this."

Now that he thinks about it, Mr. Stark did already tell him this. Peter just wants out of the crowded tin can rattling them along toward the center of Harlem.

"You have your suit and your webs ready, though, right?" Steve asks, nodding toward Peter's backpack stowed between his feet.

"What?" Peter looks Steve's way. "Oh, yeah..."

"Because once we hit the building, there's not going to be a lot of time..."

Peter tunes him out after that. The bus goes over a bump that sends his stomach into his throat. He feels as if he's suffocating. He uses his sleeve to wipe clammy sweat off his face, then off the bus's cloudy window.

"Are you listening?"

"Yeah." The bus screeches to a halt at the next stop, and Peter breathes a sigh of relief. He sucks in air and basks in the stillness of everything for a moment.

"Well, you're probably going to have to go after multiple assailants while I block return fire."

"Uh-huh."

The bus pulls away from the curb with enough speed to force Peter back in his seat. He swallows as quickly as he can, tasting bile on the back of his tongue.

He must've gone pale or something, for Steve asks, "Are you ok?

"Um, can you just, like, stop for a second?" Peter chokes back. "I need to concentrate..." He puts both hands over his mouth and breathes slowly. The back of the seat in front of him suddenly becomes very interesting to look at.

It doesn't hold for long, though. As soon as the bus turns a corner, Peter's focus is broken, and everything spills up into his mouth. He can't hold it in, and vomit runs between his fingers and out the sides.

"I'm sorry," Peter says, his voice raspy and muffled, just before he gags again.

"Ok." Steve gets to his feet, swinging Peter's backpack over one shoulder and his own over the other. He reaches over Peter's head and yanks on the string to stop the bus. "We're getting off here. I'm going to call for backup."

"No," Peter complains, but he can't control yet another retch.

"Yes," says Steve. "You'll have another chance. On a day when you're feeling better."
