“He lost himself in the words and images conjured in his mind and for a while forgot ... He found himself flying among stars and planets ...”

The flamingoes stretched out their wings like ballet dancers on tiptoe, and in their dance, they revealed the secret of eternity.

I don't belong to any side. What's more, I think flags are nothing but painted rags that represent rancid emotions. Just seeing someone wrapped up in one of them, spewing out hymns, badges and speeches, gives me the runs. I've always thought that anyone who needs to join a herd so badly must be a bit of a sheep himself.

Hey, how has your week been so far? Have you been reading anything interesting? I finished reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. It was a little bit different from the books I've read recently so it was a nice change. It's a science fiction story that plays around with quantum mechanics.

Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens.

Envy is the religion of the mediocre. It consoles them, responds to the anxieties that devour them and, ultimately, putrefies their souls and allows their narrow-mindedness and greed to be justified to the point of believing that they are virtues. And that the gates of heaven will only open wide for the unhappy like them, who go through life leaving no trace other than their unfair attempts to belittle others and to exclude, and if possible destroy, those who, by the simple fact of existing and being what they are, highlight their poverty of spirit, mind and liver. Fortunate is he to whom cretins bark, for his soul will never belong to them. C. R. Zafon
