And I made the mistake of telling her I liked a vest not because of practical reasons, (although it had many practical merits) but because “it’s so fucking dykey” which shocked her to her core and made her nervous laugh about the quality of the pockets…

In all fairness it is like… an objectively dykey vest and I do like its pockets

It IS interesting though that the camo cargo pants are forgotten, especially when ronan's stylishly ripped jeans are mentioned in narrative only (iirc) and often make it into fanart. Not to reach too far, but i think an argument could be made for a certain level of classism. Camo and cargo pants are both typically 'blue collar' articles of clothing (especially camo in the USA, tho theres wiggle room for army and brittany spears associations too)

Maybe fanartists don't draw them because Adam's motivations throughout TRB include leaving blue collar society behind and thus the cargo pants are a symbolic tie to that lifestyle which they subconciously reject as a representation of him.

Or maybe they just think the camo cargo pants are ugly.

this is actually similar to my thoughts too! i think the main reason is bc camo cargo pants are “ugly” and a lot of artists want to make the boys look attractive, but then why do they consider cargo pants ugly? that could be more complicated. i think class associations could be a big part of it, also camo cargo pants are a somewhat “childish” piece of clothing and often fanart depicts the boys looking much more adult than they actually are. anyways this is all to say: someone please draw cargo pants adam please please please please please please
