I’m sorry but @caraldanvars​ floated this idea of what if the writer for a Hawkeye film had the balls to just retcon Renner as Hawkeye and be like ‘yea he was Barney all along, we got the boring brother for, uh, 10 movies’ and introduce the real Clint and I just. god OP. your mind. it’s too powerful.

and the real Clint’s just living in a flat in a crummy part of NYC, with posters up everywhere saying ‘CLINT BARTON - PRIVATE EYE’, and Nick Fury even saw one of these way back and was like ‘...no, it can’t be the same dude’

(also btw Clint’s poster has pull tabs with his number and office address on them and he uses a picture of Lucky as the mascot)

anyway, the way real!Clint is introduced to us like this:

[Sam and Bucky are sitting at large a table in even larger room in dead silence]

Sam: I guess this is the Avengers now

[jump cut to Bucky and Sam outside as they go get a burrito. They pass one of Clint’s posters]

Bucky: ...did he mention he was in New York

[jump cut to Bucky and Sam in a poorly lit corridor walking towards a dingy office] 

Sam: bitch if we get mugged it’s your fault

Bucky: [continues eating his burrito]

[Sam knocks on the door to the Private Eye and the door just opens with 1 tap]

Clint (cast!! Billy!! Magnussen!!!!): oh hey! clients!

Sam: Clint? Clint Barton?

Clint: ye-AHHHHHHHHHH

[Clint catches sight of Bucky and starts to scream, he takes up his bow and almost docks an arrow, but doesn’t; the incongruity of seeing the Winter Soldier eating a burrito tells Clint that maybe he’s okay now]

[Sam is surprised at the screaming, but not at the fact that it’s directed at Bucky. Bucky’s done a lot of shit. Bucky continues eating his burrito.]

[multiple jump cuts between Clint, Sam, Bucky; Clint is still holding is bow but one hand is frozen over an arrow, Sam is confused, and Bucky continues eating his burrito]

[cut back to Clint, frozen over his bow and arrow]

Clint smiles, relaxes his stance, and completely lowers his bow: so how can I help you fellows?

Sam: are you seriously Hawkeye?

Clint: oh, I used to be, but then I went to Romania on a solo mission, had a complete mental breakdown, and my brother’s been posing as me for about [walks over to calendar on the wall and flips through it] 10 years.

Sam: we’ve had the fake Clint for 10 years??

Clint: yea. Fury lost 1 whole shield agent in Eastern Europe so he had to do something. also I lost my hearing and I’m about 98% sure shield are [ASL: bastards] and they don’t want to pay for my health insurance.

As a relatively new follower (I think first followed you in... November of last year? Wow. Time.) I am surprised that you DON'T ship stevebucky?? I always thought you did. Huh!

so the issue is I have such a complicated relationship w steve rogers / stevebucky (and their respective corners of the fandom) that I had to step away from both post endgame. if you’ve followed me for a while, this was a steve rogers blog. (old urls : peterssquill, thorlovesbruce, caraldanvars) it’s always been a mess of content from x men to thor to ant man to all of the above, but steve rogers was my main bitch. & I shipped stevebucky bc there’s something so compelling about ‘love will persevere’ aspect of their relationship, and how their relationships slogan literally was ‘til death do we part’.

the fandom post endgame was…………a mess. I’d argue even worse than the fandom post civil war (tho that has had the longest repercussions). steve rogers fandom in particular was so toxic, and I was put on anti steve rogers blog lists and blocked by mutuals bc I didn’t like his ending bc it ruined a character and all his development that id loved for ten years. bring those together, and I lost a big chunk of the sphere I had existed in as a long term blog. I took a break, and when I came back I used other ships and content as a distraction. I changed my Brand and here I am 🤧
