One thing I wish we could have seen from Star Wars is the clones mourning.

Yes, I know, depressing. But hear me out.

We see how the clones react to their brothers' deaths in the moment, but rarely afterwards when they actually have time to grieve. We see how it can affect them long term, like how Rex began to struggle after losing so many of his men.

But give me the moment after the mission.

That moment on the shuttle as they return to Kamino.

The moment they return to their barracks and one of the beds is empty.

The moment where they head to the canteen and there's one fewer person at the table.

As depressing as it would be, I want to see how each of them cope after losing a brother. How they each react.

How did Jesse and Fives behave after Hardcase's death?

Or Rex after Fives'?

Fives after Echo's?

Fox after Thorn's?

Wolffe and Rex after Gregor's?

Echo after Fives'?

I know that not focusing on how the clones react after the deaths of their brothers is probably to help push forward the narrative that the clones were made to be expendable.

But I need to see it.

Suspension

Pairing: Captain Rex X Jedi! reader

Prompt: “ive known you forever, I’m not ready to loose you!” & “just kiss me!”

Warnings: blood, injuries, fighting, angst, fluffy end

Summery: during a dangerous mission the Captain gets hurt, and (y/n) saves his life.

Authors note: this is my first time writing for Rex! I hope you enjoy!

“I’ll take Captain Rex with me” (y/n) said as she looked at Kenobi and Skywalker.

“No- I’m taking Rex” Anakin protested, crossing his arms and looking down at her.

“We aren’t objects” Rex spoke up watching them, walking towards them with his helmet at his side. “But I will be going with Knight (y/n)” he said standing next to her, causing her to smirk and cross her arms looking at anakin.

“Fine, I’ll take commander Cody” Anakin said before Obi-Wan shook his head.

“No, I’m taking Commander Cody” he said looking at Anakin with a stern look. Obi-Wan always took Commander Cody, it was like an unset rule.

“Fine- I’ll take Wolfe” Anakin claimed

“Tano is taking Wolfe” (y/n) argues looking up at him.

“Then who am I going to take?!” He groaned, being the iver dramatic boy he was.

“Take fives” she looked over at the clone who was sitting at the table picking his teeth in the reflection of his helmet. Anakin groaned before calling his name.

“Fives!” He said looking at him, causing him to drop his helmet in shock and sit up straight.

“Master Skywalker” fives smiled at him softly.

“You’re with me” Anakin said before everything got settled.

Soon they were all walking to their own ships, weapons ready to go. As everyone was starting to leave (y/n) felt a hand on the small of her back, causing her to turn quickly and grab it.

“Woah- I- I’m sorry” Rex exclaim as he looked at her, moving his hand from her grasp “I just wanted a moment with you...” he said softly

“There’s people, Rex...” she looked at him and looked around the loading bay

“All distracted.” He said looking at her with soft eyes, he was always soft around her.

“Later, Rex... I won’t risk it” she said before getting into her ship with him.

“You never what to risk it” he mumbled.

Everything was going fine, that was until (y/n) couldn’t get an answer from Rex.

“Rex- do you copy!” She yelled again into her coms trying to get him to answer her, she needed back up. “Rex?!” She yelled again before looking around, trying to see past the enemy force to find Rex. He was supposed to stay by her side, watch her 6, she wasn’t meant to watch his. Of course she was, naturally, she cared about him, but she looked away fro to long.

“Rex! Give me a call out!” She yelled in the coms again, her voice frantic as she cut into enemies with her blue saber.

“I’m here” she finally heard, it was weak and staticky but she heard it, however she wasn’t ready to hear the follow up “you need to kee....I don’t think— make it” she heard him say, the static breaking up the message, but what she heard was enough to send her into a fit of quick anger to cut open who ever she could to get to him.

“Rex where are you- I’m coming to you” she said quickly before searching for him, finally spotting him she ran toward the Captainz

“No-(y/n) you need to move on” he said when she got down to his level. Picking his head up softly, and pulling off the helmet.

“I’m not leaving you here...” she said seeing all the blood. “Rex, look at me” she said lifting his head up, smiling at him softly when their eyes met.

“(Y/n) please...” he pleaded, putting his hand over hers. “You can’t stop because of-“

“I’ve known you my whole life, and I’m not ready to loose you!” She started as she looked at him. “I’m not leaving you here! I can’t- I can’t leave you...” she trailed off looking him over before she picked him up, using the force to help her as she ran back to the ship. “Stay with me, Captain” she said as she set him down for the nurse droids to take care of him, she never let go of his hand.

(Y/n) didn’t care if the mission was a fail on her part, or how man Anakin could get about it. She had Rex and that’s all that mattered. She had her best friend, her partner, and dare she even say the man she loved. It was a selfish choice, but no where in her mind could she find it to be the wrong one.

When Rex woke up he found himself in his room, Fives at his side instead of (y/n). “Where’s (y/n)...” he asked looking at Fives

“Rex?” He looked over quickly, smiling slightly as he looked at him. “How are you feeling? You took quite the blow...”

“I feel fine...” Rex said sitting up, looking at fives “now where’s (y/n)?” He asked again more sternly, rolling his muscular shoulders as he sat up.

“She’s with General Skywalker...she’s been suspended...” Five’s informed looking at him before they both sighed heavily.

“For saving my life?” Rex asked almost angry.

“Well- his argument is she could’ve went back into battle when you were to safety- but she stayed with you...” Fives’s replied before handing him some water. “She should be back soon, she said she needed to talk to Anakin again...”

“I have to find her...” Rex said standing up, fixing himself before he walked out with Fives to find her.

“You would’ve done the same thing!” (Y/n) argues with Anakin, he only shook his head and quipped back quickly.

“No! No I wouldn’t have! I know my respo’-“ she cut him off

“And if it was padme?!” She argued angrily.

“You can not compare this to Padmé!” Anakin yelled, (y/n) was the only person that’s really knew, it was by accident but she found out and she kept the secret well.

“I can, Anakin! I love him!” She yelled, that’s what made Rex and Fives’ stop before they entered the room.

“You love him?” Anakin asked, much calmer them earlier. She shook her head and looked down, ashamed because she knew it was against the code

“Yes... I love him, Anakin...” she said quietly, admitting her ‘sin’

“Does he know?” He asked stepping towards her, putting his hand on her shoulder.

“No-he... I guess he thinks he’s just a fling to me... but he’s not! He’s so much more! He’s always been so much more...” she admitted before hearing his thoughts outside the door, opening them quickly she face Rex and sighed.

“(Y/n) I-“ he started but she cut him off

“Just kiss me” she said before pulling him in, his lip instantly finding hers, his hands finding her waist, pulling her closer to him, not caring who saw them anymore. As he pulled away he looked her in the eyes and spoke quietly as his forehead laid against hers.

“You’ll never loose me”
