About Megan Rapinoe - being the first openly lesbian athlete apparently posing for Sports Illustrated:
Tumblr media
^^^ Good points. I’m sure the people who also wrote “she male” and “screw this hoe” on her poster in “gay friendly” NYC will be happy to see this (I live in NY. The bar is set low to be considered one of the top “gay friendly” places to live tbdh).
But check out this comment in my last reblog of Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder - fully clothed, live, no posing, etc:
Tumblr media
Like....males who fetishize lesbians will find a way to fetishize lesbians no matter what. Being in the public eye is enough to be fetishized because living openly as actual homosexual women is still taboo because of being seen as sexual entertainment and titillation to males thanks to porn first and foremost, then condemnation of and mythologization of female homosexuality worldwide. I know a dude who can’t contain his “liking and turning girls who like girls” jokes around me because he is so used to pursuing bisexual women who called themselves gay that he doesn’t know how the fuck to act around an actual lesbian not giving two fucks about him. And as I said before, I dress very casually/modestly and I never talk about sexual topics around men or straight or bi women who are around straight or bi men. Hell I saw a dude on here who reblogged a lesbian wedding photo on the same blog where he also reblogged a woman sitting half naked on a toilet lmfao.
Do I think Megan posing for Sports Illustrated was necessarily a good idea? On some level no, just as I felt when Lynn Gunn posed for Playboy (or on a way more problematic level, that Young Ma produced a porn movie for Pornhub). Do I on some level understand they probably did it because as lesbians they felt less like women by men and women? Yeah, like the shemale comment is probably something Megan has heard throughout her life. If she posed for a lesbian magazine would it still be an issue because the audience is different? wouldn’t men who fetishize lesbians still easily find it?
Obviously there is an aspect of always displaying nude women 90% of the time versus males that gives the message that sexualization of females sells. And the message is even more insidious for lesbians because of worldwide perception we are purely sex objects for men and straight couples that ultimately need to be harassed and need sexual discipline to be “correct women.”
But men are going to fetishize lesbians doing everyday things, posing nude or almost nude in magazines or not, whatever. If not because of porn or entertainment inspired by porn themes, opposite sex attracted women who call themselves lesbians when they aren’t or sometimes precisely to titillate men are continuing to enable that. So they’re going to fetishize lesbians whether they are outrightly insulting us or pretending they agree with us being able to love openly just so they can be voyeurs and relish in their invasive and taboo “kink.” And that’s the fault of societal treatment of lesbian sexuality, of actual pornography and the fault of males with disgusting obsessions and views deemed as normal and acceptable.
Lesbians live in a damn cultural purgatory. Taboo and visible. Mythologized yet very real. Female, yet not female because of being homosexual. Either way, that’s a recipe for fetishists on each end of the spectrum.

so, @vorchagirl (who blocks literally anyone who makes any attempt to call her and her fellows out on their blatant, sickening behaviour with regards to mlm and POC members of the fandom) decided to post this gem after the absolute clusterfuck that was the meltdown of the Writer’s Discord.
now, i’d like to clarify that as a trans, gay man, i was putting myself in a very difficult place by being part of this server for as long as i did, and i wasn’t the only one. the attitude on this server caused several mlm members of the community to leave, hugely upset by their treatment. the homophobia was so disgustingly casual that they called it ‘biphobia’ when we tried to discuss issues that affected mlm (which, by the way, includes bisexual men. just, you know, for clarification) and got angry when we called them out on derailing the conversation to their interests and ignoring our valid issues. they called us ‘too passionate’ about the things that affect us on a day-to-day basis in our lives, they said we were too emotional to hold rational discussions because we were being ignored for the very thing that we suffer for in real life. they held us in NO regard, placated us with promises that they would assign a mod who was specifically mlm to ensure fair practice, and that never happened.
now, i can only really speak on behalf of my own experiences as a gay guy here, but more than that there’s been far too many disgusting instances of fetishist behaviour wrt POC characters (Reyes Vidal, especially), ableism and blatant ignorance of the issues that affects anyone who isn’t a white, bi woman.
they literally would rather shut this server down, than acknowledge any wrongdoing on their behalf.
they would literally rather ignore us than accept that they caused us harm.
that is absolutely abhorrent behaviour on a scale that we shouldn’t have to put up with in a group of adults who should be taking accountability for their actions, who should be capable of apologising and willing to learn from their mistakes instead of arguing that they’re the oppressed ones because people are being brave enough to cal them out on their absolute bullshit.
so, in reality, the closure of this server is a blessing, tbh. thank fuck for small mercies.
there’s two sides to every story, and these are the people who will try to convince you that there’s only one.

The lesbophobia on tumblr is disgusting. Asexuals want to change the acronym to AGBT bc they think lesbians can be grouped in with gays. 😩 Not to mention the lesbian flag is ALWAYS left out on pride posts meanwhile non-LGBT people (ace, demis, etc.) always get their flags included. I’ve seen lesbians ask not to be call q***r and straight assholes on this website do it anyways. The LGBT online community has become an unsafe place for lesbians due to the amount of cishets invading the community.
It’s honestly so disgusting and it’s so damn frustrating! And yeah, it broke my heart seeing so many “please don’t forget about lesbians this Pride month” posts. And how many people asked for at least one of the lesbian flags to be included.
But you know what the worst part is? A lot of the people already in the community don’t really support us either. They don’t fight for us. They gang up on the “big mean lesbians” just like everyone else does. We’re “awful”, “exclusionary”, and “gatekeepers.”
As soon as a non-lesbian hates something that we say or do, we’re “ugly d*kes”, “hateful TERFs” and “predatory”, etc.
Find ANY post on this website that advocates for lesbian only spaces. You’ll see exactly what I mean when I say that our own “community” doesn’t really care about us either. It’s like we have to make room for ourselves in the community which is utter bullshit!! Also, find any post that’s pro lesbian or that talks about lesbian specific issues. Those posts will always get quickly derailed by other issues and by other groups of people.
Make a lesbian post and the responses are like:
“What about bisexuals/pansexuals?”
Also: “These issues also affect us!”
With a side of: “This should say all WLW and not just lesbians!”
“Don’t say the words same-sex attracted, vagina/pussy, etc. because it’s transphobic!”
Also: “You’re just a vagina fetishist who’s only attracted to genitals!”
“Why do you need lesbian only spaces?” “Gay bars, etc. already exist!”
I could honestly list like one hundred other examples because it’s so prevalent all over this site. And I’m so damn tired of it. Let lesbians exist, be proud, and prosper in peace!
