My number one classics ick is when a scholar will just insert untranslated passages of Greek and Latin into their paper. good job on the artificial inaccessibility you guys, glad you were able to gatekeep the field so none of those dirty peasants may learn stuff. its just for us cool guys who speak Greek or Latin

I grabbed like a dozen shots of Wyll's contract in that scene with Mizora, but the only part of it that I can make out is that the header says "Donuracr" (something like "donation", possibly). The rest are also clearly Infernal runes, they're just way too wobbly for me to translate. :/
Does anyone maybe have a way to get a clearer shot, like from the game files or something? I'm kinda too scared to go poking around in there myself, but I haven't found a translation yet, and I'd love to be able to pick through it!

I’ve been learning Brazilian Portuguese for like 3 weeks now, bc I was bored as hell during winter break so I was like “yknow what, lets learn a new language”
It actually came in handy to know English and Spanish, bc it kinda made it easier to understand for me.
I also just like learning about different cultures in general, and it’s nicer to understand some of the language. I also just felt bad bc Brazil is almost always left out of Latin American media 😭 and just South American media in general is always forgotten. As a latino I want everyone to get equal attention bc the cultures are so unique

ok y'know what I take back the statement that latin was useless and didn't teach me anything because it taught me about grammar structures. of course we learned about those in german too but all the different verb forms were more relevant to know about in latin. just knowing what all the grammar things are called is useful when you're learning another language and trying to figure out a certain thing which duolingo won't tell you because using formal grammar words is apparently too complicated

FINALLY finished open veins of latin America 🫡
Dont really have much to say about it because well it says everything better than i could but i will say it is....definitely an experience reading it 50 years or so after it was published when Galeano is like well things are only gonna get worse and well...................
Its not demoralizing though its the opposite especially now as people across the world are uniting for palestine i can only hope this energy continues against imperialism everywhere and i really do encourage everyone right now to educate themselves about....actual communist and revolutionary theory and writing

since you’re talking about languages. just wanted to say im thinking about cajun french again. my mon-mon knows it and I could technically ask her to teach me a few words but it’s different than growing up with it y’know?
Oh BOY do I know. it's like...we are going to spend the rest of our lives with this ache. There is no undoing the fact we did not learn our heritage languages as children. Learning it later in life, even if we become completely and entirely fluent, does not and cannot ever change that we had to work for it. That we had to recreate it and that we will never and cannot ever come close to what could have been
There's this hurdle when learning it too--at least in my experience--where you feel like an impostor. And there is so much shame--for something completely out of our control; we had no say in what languages we were taught as kids. I'm always straining and listening to what others say--how they've shortened words colloquially, what versions they use more (e.g. oraciones vs sentencias), because that ease and experience and familiarity in conversation in others is something I don't have. They own the language enough to shape it to themselves, and I'm just trying to keep up. It doesn't feel like my language, doesn't roll off my tongue. I don't dream in it.
But I could have. And it's so hard, maybe even impossible, to forget that. Even when you learn it
