yk there's a lot of talk about the way merlin is practically a god but lives as an unassuming servant, and seeing this surprises druids/other magic users. i wanna see kind of the same thing happen to arthur with the people of his kingdom. we know arthur so intimately, from merlin's pov, but i wanna see him as a living legend. stories of his valor spreading across land, blown out of proportion and missing details. “the prince slayed the great dragon and gifted its head to the king!” “some say the goddess blessed him when he was born, when she took the queen back. how else does one survive an attack by a questing beast?” “he held out his hand and the sword stuck in solid stone flew to him! iwan says meredith’s aunt saw it herself!” “the word has come, king arthur defeated annis’ champion—a giant of a man!” old men discussing arthur’s policies, comparing them with those of previous rulers, and being glad that it's him on the throne “finally, a good fucking king.” people having faith that their ruler is generous and fair and can be approached in times of need, and having the comforting knowledge that he would do his best to help because that's what he did with the other village last year! young boys dreaming to join his army and young girls daydreaming about a fairy tale ending with him (or vice versa, obv). just... arthur of his people.

what I'm saying is i want an outsider pov character study of arthur pendragon king of camelot. hope that helps

Merlin said, looking at the chained up dragon with an unpleasant look of disapproval. Arthur was standing next to him, like always, glaring at the dragon.

Kilgharrah raised a brow, I mean really!?!? Can dragons even do that? And gave an amused laugh with an unhelpful smile.

“Oh but young warlock it quite is.”

Or

In witch Merlin’s magic goes haywire in the last ditch attempt to save Arthur who is currently dying in his arms. Because please, he’s the greatest sorcerer to ever walk the earth, magic incarnate!

In this Merlin’s time magic amplifies and ends up sending him all the way back to the day he met Arthur.

It also turns out Arthur remembers.

So, ten years worth of memories in younger bodies back in time?

What could go wrong.

Omg I was just think which I’m sure someone else has said this but…

Yk the color of the Camelot seal are red and gold.

Merlin is always trying to save Arthur using his magic which is gold. Arthur always ends up hurt anyways because he’s an idiot but he bleeds which is red.

So yes two sides of one coin and what not. So when Arthur does Albion or whatever it’s called can’t come to its golden age because the red (Arthur) is gone. Leaving only one part of the great Albion which is the gold (Merlin).

i was bored at work and had the quest for camelot soundtrack stuck in my head so now you all have to suffer as well. yes i will continue to compare asoiaf to children and teen's media, i'm a children and teen librarian, all i read are picture books now sorry.

(if you haven't seen quest for camelot, it was a children's adaption of The Kings Damosel. It is LOOSELY based on the book though, and it was a critical flop because people have no taste. the music is amazing, very celtic and it started my love affair with cary elwes!!!)

Okay so you know how being a royal mistress wasn't actually a title/position (at least, not until 15th century France) and a mistress usually had an official place in court, usually as part of someone's entourage, a governess, etc., so imagine Arthur visiting another kingdom for diplomatic relations and being like, "this is Merlin, my manservant" which is perfectly normal, all kosher, until they see Merlin and Arthur being...well, Merlin and Arthur and they're collectively like, "Ohhh, that's his manservant ;) gotchu fam" and Merlin is innocently oblivious as to why everyone's being so nice to him now whilst Arthur is like "Yeah, good question" *squinty eyes*
