While for decades the popular opinion has been that the one most-unbreakable record in baseball is Joe DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak, I’ve always disagreed. Yes, that is a spectacular achievement and in the 81 years since it happened only three players have come within 20 games of breaking the record. (Pete Rose had a 44-game streak in 1978, Paul Molitor had a 39-game streak in 1987 and Jimmy Rollins had a 38-game streak spanning the 2005 and 2006 seasons.)
Still, there has always been a record that I felt was even more unlikely to break than that one. It is simply this: Nolan Ryan pitched SEVEN no-hitters in his career. Think about that. Some of the greatest pitchers ever have never gotten one no-hitter. Sandy Koufax is the only other pitcher in history who has as many as four. Only four have had as many as three (Cy Young, Justin Verlander, Bob Feller and Larry Corcoran).
Add to that the fact that in modern baseball it is rare for a starting pitcher to be allowed to pitch a full game, the chances of anyone even getting a whiff of Ryan’s record are infinitesimal.
Not just because of this record, but I can say as a life-long baseball fan who has seen many, many superstars over the years, Nolan Ryan was the single most dominating pitcher that I have ever seen.
He’s not always thought of when people bring up the all-time greats, mostly because he tended to play for fairly bad teams, thus his win-loss records were a little spotty and he rarely made the playoffs. In fact, he only was on one World Series-champion team in a near-30-year career, the 1969 “Miracle” Mets, and at the time he was a youngster who was pitching out of the bullpen. Also his 100-mile-an-hour fast ball (in a time when that was exceedingly rare) could be a little wild.
However, think of this: beyond the record for no-hitters, he also holds the record for one-hitters (12, tied with Bob Feller), two-hitters (18) and three hitters (31). He also holds the career record for strikeouts (5,714), 300-strikeout seasons (6) and 200-strikeout seasons (15). That my friends, is domination.
Of course, he also has the record for most walks allowed, too. Go big or go home.
Facing Nolan is entertaining as a sports documentary because that is exactly what it is. Like its subject, it has no major bells and whistles, just an hour and 45 minutes mostly made up of some fantastic film of 27 years of pitching dominance.
Oh, sure, periodically the film will veer off into other subjects, mostly exploring Ryan’s obvious great love of his family, which appears to be the one thing on Earth that is even more important to the man than baseball is. It also touches on his outside work as a spokesman (there is a funny scene where two of Ryan’s granddaughters good-naturedly mock his old Advil ads), his love of animals, his ranch and Texas, and his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
But mostly, Facing Nolan puts you in the batter’s box as one of the greatest pitchers – if not THE greatest pitcher – in the game wove his magic. They literally got dozens of former major leaguers – both teammates and opponents – to discuss the sheer dominance that Ryan exhibited in his 27 seasons in the big leagues.
However, even more interesting is letting the big guy talk about himself. He may be a legend, but he’s also humble and funny about his place in the show. Unlike his former opponents, no baseball fan should hesitate about Facing Nolan.

On This Day in Baseball History May 2, 1923: During pregame ceremonies, the American League President Ban Johnson celebrates New York Yankees shortstop Everett Scott. Scott became the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to play in 1,000 consecutive games.
The previous record for consecutive games during the pre-modern era was held by George P. Pinckney who played 577 consecutive games for the Brooklyn team of both the American Association and National League. His streak started on September 2, 1885 and ended in 1890. The then modern age MLB record for consecutive games played was held by Fred Luderus of the Philadelphia Phillies who played for 533 consecutive games from June 2, 1916 through 1919. The former American League record was held by Eddie Collins of the Chicago White Sox who played for 478 consecutive games.
Scott would start his streak on June 20, 1916 while playing for the Boston Red Sox. Scott’s record streak would reach 1,307 games and end on May 5, 1925. He would be eclipsed by the Iron Horse Lou Gehrig, who would play a total of  2,130 games from June 1, 1925 to April 30, 1939. Cal Ripken Jr. is the current record holder having played 2,632 consecutive games from 1982 - 1995. Scott still sits at number three on the all-time consecutive games played list.
The game would finish with a 3-0 shutout of the Yankees by Washington Senators ace Walter “Big Train” Johnson.

Ranking Backyard Baseball Cover Athletes
If you are still in your 20’s or early 30’s, the chances are great that you grew up playing the Backyard sports games. They made games for baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer and skateboarding. And they were all fantastic. ALL OF THEM WERE.
The purpose of this article is for me to give you my fully honest ranking of the cover athletes on the Backyard Baseball games. Having spent my entire weekend playing, this has been the only thing on my mind.
For reference, the five game covers being compared will be the original Backyard Baseball (original), and then BYBB 2001, BYBB 2003, BYBB 2005 and BYBB 2007.
5) Alex Rodriguez (BYBB 2005)
If you never played Backyard Baseball 2005, then you are doing a disservice to Atari, Humongous Entertainment, Pablo Sanchez and myself. This was the best of the games, no doubt about it. And it was also the most realistic of the bunch.
The reason that A-Rod ranks so low on the totem pole is that he is the least impactful cover athlete within his game. He was still a beast when you drafted him, but not to the level that our other players were.
The best major-leaguers to draft in this game, in my opinion, were Pedro Martinez and Alfonso Soriano. Randy Johnson was always a bad pick because of his slow swing. You need decent hitting at all nine spots, and Pedro can actually hit the occasional dinger. Soriano is fast and a great opposite field hitter.
Sorry Alex Rodriguez. You are at the bottom of the list. (This has nothing to do with the steroids. Or does it???)
4) Stephanie Morgan (BYBB original)
Pablo Sanchez also graces the cover of this game. But, because he’s sliding into home plate, he’s not the feature player. Given that Stephanie is smiling as she prepares to apply the tag on Pablo in this picture , well… she’s probably going to make sure the GOAT is out at home.
Tumblr media
Stephanie is a slightly below average player in the BYBB franchise. She has her moments and is a decent line-drive hitter, but she isn’t a “must-draft” player. But the fact that she got PABLO out on a game cover, proves how great she is capable of being.
This cover makes it ahead of 2005 because of the appearance by Pablo. And that’s all there is to it.
3) Mike Piazza (BYBB 2003)
Backyard Baseball 2003 plays very similarly to the 2001 game. The major differences lie in the available pro players to choose from and the stadiums. The audio was slightly better, but that’s really it. It’s a quality game.
Mike Piazza however, wasn’t exactly dynamite. He’ll get the nod ahead of A-Rod for the swag he brings to the game. He comes in rocking a backwards hat with the classic Piazza power. His arm behind home plate won’t be gunning the fastest runners down.
At the end of the day, he was still a guy you loved to have on your team. And, a player with a fantastic name. Who doesn’t love saying “Piazza”? That’s a top-tier last name. Third place.
2) Albert Pujols (BYBB 2007)
The 2007 edition of Backyard Baseball was VERY different from the others, but it was still fantastic. They made stealing harder, and the fields had deeper dimensions. The power-ups were a little more creative, and there were more players to choose from than ever before.
Albert Pujols graced the cover of this game, and it was almost guaranteed that you’d get a hit with him at the plate. The game’s popularity was a lot lower than the three games before it, but it was still a stellar time. I got the game for my birthday in sixth grade.
Pujols was always a good pick. It would have been foolish to ever not choose him. The same goes for Pete Wheeler, AKA Pete Stealer. If you put Pete in the leadoff spot and Pujols after him, that’s two guaranteed runs every time.
St. Louis Cardinals Pujols was an all-time great. In real life and in video games.
1) Cal Ripken (BYBB 2001)
Backyard Baseball 2001 might be the single best game in the entire Backyard franchise. And on the cover it features Stephanie Morgan as the catcher, and Cal Ripken Jr. batting. Noted in the background are Pablo Sanchez, Vicki Kawaguchi and Marky Dubois.
Tumblr media
If you picked Ripken when you played, the chances were great that your team would win the World Series. He was a stellar hitter and could throw any player out on a ground ball to short. Even Kenny Lofton, whose speed was unfair, couldn’t beat out Ripken’s arm.
Cal wasn’t the best player in the game, but he was up there at the top. Ken Griffey Jr. is the guy you always wanted to have, to ensure 1-2 home runs PER GAME. Ripken earned the right to be on the cover though, and listed as the best cover athlete.
When you play in 2,632 consecutive games in real life and literally NEVER strike out in the video game, you’re golden.

Few Information About Baseball
Fundamental Policies
Groups are composed of 9 players that make use of a leather-covered difficult sphere, a wood (in the specialist game) or lightweight aluminum bat and also cushioned handwear covers. One turn at bat for each group comprises an inning, as well as 9 innings,  make up a game. When the fielding group places out 3 batters (or joggers), the groups' exchange areas.
Background
Early History
Modern-day baseball created from variants of the English game of rounders, from associated local and also neighborhood games, and also from youngsters' games like "one old feline," all of which had actually advanced with centuries. The typical tale that Abner Doubleday developed baseball in 1839 in Cooperstown, N.Y. has actually been rejected. It is commonly assumed that the very first game of modern-day baseball was played by the Knickerbockers in the loss of 1845 in a park called the Elysian Area in Hoboken, N.J. Throughout an 1857 convention Wadsworth developed the contemporary conventional about the number of innings and also players.
The Advancement of Expert Baseball in the USA
Both organizations combated the obstacle of the Federal Organization in 1914-- 15, yet baseball's appeal, as well as security, were endangered when the 1919 Chicago White Sox conspired to shed the Globe Collection. Club proprietors after that worked with Court Kenesaw Hill Landis as the very first baseball commissioner (1920-- 44) and also billed him with settling the dilemma. Landis outlawed 8 participants of the "Black Sox" forever (regardless of their pardon in a law court), assisting to raise uncertainty from the specialist game.
Financial challenges, gambling-related rumors, and also franchise business turmoil afflicted all the organizations, as well as a players rebellion in 1890, which caused a temporary Athletes Organization, deteriorated the National Organization. A completing organization, the Western Organization, transformed its name to the American Organization in 1900 and also put clubs in numerous eastern cities. In 1903 the champs of the American as well as National organizations satisfied for the very first time in what came to be called the Globe Collection.
At some point, competitors widened, as well as a company to promote and also advertise standard policies organizing, the National Organization of Baseball Athletes, which was created in 1858. The motion of Union soldiers throughout the Civil Battle assisted to spread out the game and also raised chances for recreation, enhanced interactions, as well as less complicated traveling after the battle promoted a larger affordable base as well as boosted passion.
In 1869, Harry Wright arranged the Cincinnati Red Pantyhose, baseball's initial expert group, as well as took them on a 57-game nationwide trip, throughout which they were unbeaten. Looking to broaden on the Reds' success, the National Organization of Expert Baseball Athletes in 1871 legal 9 groups in 8 cities as the initial expert organization. In the 1870s a variety of contending organizations were created, consisting of the National Organization, which quickly came to be the primary organization.
The Golden Years
The years between 1920 and also The Second World War were the prime time of Infant Ruth, the game's leading tale. Various other celebrities made their names also: Ruth's long-lasting New york city Yankee colleague, Lou Gehrig; the controversial batting champ Ty Cobb; superior bottles like Lefty Grove, Dizzy Dean, and also Walter Johnson; elegant Yankee facility fielder Joe DiMaggio; and also sluggers Hank Greenberg as well as Jimmie Foxx, to name a few. Followers crowded to the big arenas constructed in the 1920s.
When the Anxiety intimidated spectatorship in the 1930s, evening baseball, explore a half-century previously, came to be fact. Starting in Cincinnati in 1935, arranged baseball slowly came to be mostly a night occasion. A network of minors groups, spread throughout the country in smaller sized communities and also cities, sustained both big leagues with establishing ability as well as follower rate of interest. More About Baseball And Review......
Combination of Specialist Baseball
Throughout Globe Battle II, numerous significant organization celebrities offered in the armed pressures. By the mid-1940s most had actually returned to their groups, however significant organization baseball proceeded to omit black players, that, prevented by a shade line attracted in the 1880s, showcased their abilities in different organizations, specifically the National Organization (1920, folded up the late 1920s, revitalized 1933), the Eastern Colored Organization (1923, folded up the late 1920s), as well as the American Organization (1936 ). The combination ended up being a truth of baseball life so promptly that by the mid-1950s there were even more African-American players on significant organization groups than there had actually been in the organizations at their elevation of appeal simply a year previously.
Growth and also Labor Problem
The Major Organization Baseball Athletes' Organization, developed in 1966, pressed for an end to the book provision, a legal terms that bound a gamer to a club unless he was traded, launched, or retired. The provision existed because of baseball's exception from government antitrust regulations, as well as it is utilized to bind a gamer, versus his will, to one group for his entire occupation; it additionally offered to hold down players' wages. The UNITED STATE Supreme Court had actually supported the condition 3 times (1915, 1922, 1953) in 50 years, a mid-1970s mediator stated numerous players "totally free representatives," and also after that, the sporting activity was required to permit freer gamer activity amongst bidding process groups.
In the 1970s and also 1960s, nevertheless, baseball's appeal was tested by disillusionment of the young with well-known organizations, by the television-spurred boom of the National Football Organization (tv was additionally assumed mainly in charge of shrinking of the minor-league system), as well as by divisiveness within the sporting activity over brand-new synthetic having fun surface areas, interior areas, and also guideline modifications like the American Organization's 1973 intro of a marked player to bat for the bottle (the National Organization never ever embraced the action).
In 2001 several documents dropped once more, as Barry Bonds damaged the single-season home-run document as well as various other marks as well as Rickey Henderson crowned his various other success by establishing the job document for runs racked up. At the same time, nonetheless, an expanding anabolic steroid detraction stained the game, polluting the success of several of baseball's most significant celebrities (at some point consisting of McGwire, Sosa, as well as Bonds) as well as completing the organizations to present screening for steroids in 2003 and also to put on hold players for their usage in 2005. In 2007 the Mitchell record outlined details concerning previous use steroids and also human development hormonal agent by 89 previous and also existing players, as well as recommended modifications in exactly how the big league's examination for performance-enhancing substance abuse.
The areas of significant organization franchise business, steady for 50 years, ended up being unclear in the 1950s. In 1961, the 2 significant organizations got in right into a duration of growth, slowly including brand-new groups.
Regardless of these diversions, nevertheless, the big-time game remained to thrive. As Infant Ruth was held to have actually brought the game via the message-- Black Sox age, the splitting of Lou Gehrig's consecutive-games-played document in 1996 by Cal Ripken, Jr. and also the attack on the single-season home-run document by Mark McGwire as well as Sammy Sosa in 1998 were viewed as "saving" the game from its self-inflicted problems. By the late 1990s there were 30 groups in 6 departments in the big leagues (the minimal interleague play was presented in 1997), and also participate as well as tv profits were high.
Global and also amateur Baseball
The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) was started in 1938 and also currently has 112 participant nations; it has actually arranged the Baseball Globe Mug considering that it's beginning. In 2006 the Globe Baseball Timeless debuted, under the auspices of Major Organization Baseball, its players' organization, as well as various other expert organizations, and also approved by IBAF. Little Organization, an around the world company established in 1937 for young people, proceeds to fund globe champions in Williamsport, Pa.

Manny Machado isn’t on the Orioles anymore, and that’s incredibly depressing
Tumblr media
Welcome to hell, Orioles. We saved your room for you.
It seems important to remember that the Orioles have had Manny Machado all season. They’re currently 28-69. With their superstar infielder having the best offensive season of his career, the Orioles are in the middle of one of the worst seasons in franchise history. One of the worst seasons in any franchise’s history. And now they’ll be replacing the starting shortstop in the All-Star Game with whatever spare parts they have laying around.
These probably won’t be good spare parts. Just a hunch.
There’s no point in evaluating the trade from the Dodgers’ perspective. They lost their slugging shortstop for the year, so they rented a new one. Machado might help them win the division, like Manny Ramirez in 2008, or he might help them come up short, like Hanley Ramirez in 2012. He might help them win the World Series, like John Tudor. He might not help them win the World Series, like every deadline acquisition since John Tudor. I’m writing this before I know who the prospects are, but, whatever, it’s a great freaking deal for the Dodgers. They’re better.
The Orioles are in baseball hell. They were in the ALCS seemingly just a couple of weeks ago, when Machado was young and under team control for years and years and years. I’m not sure where the disconnect happened — if it was ever possible to sign Machado to an Evan Longoria-like deal when he was a teenager, or even if he would have agreed to a lucrative-but-not-debilitating contract two or three years ago. He might have had his eye on this coming winter since his first All-Star Game in 2013, and nothing was going to change his mind.
There’s nothing to be gained by finger pointing. The Orioles had Machado, a generational talent, and now they have magic beans that have a chance to grow into beanstalks. There isn’t a huge database of deals centered around superstars in their early or mid-20s because these are the kinds of players teams like to keep.
There is one recent trade that might work as a possible comparison, and that’s Miguel Cabrera going from the Marlins to the Tigers. A look back at the trade rumors from back then was illuminating and hilarious:
It sounds like the Yankees will trade Melky Cabrera, but are very reluctant to trade Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, or Ian Kennedy.
The Orioles might get the next Joba Chamberlain. Maybe the next Ian Kennedy. If they dream big, they might the next Melky Cabrera.
But according to Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers now have the lead (for Miguel Cabera). It may require Matt Kemp, Andy LaRoche, and Clayton Kershaw.
Or the Orioles could forget about Machado almost instantly because they’re concussed from all of the awards falling from the sky. It’s possible, after all. Anything is possible with prospects.
From the outside looking in, though, with a brain that tends to think about the fan experience before the GM experience, I know that the Orioles have lost something substantial. What I can’t stop thinking about is this lede from Moss Klein in a Sporting News article from May, 1988:
The Baltimore Orioles may be willing to trade Cal Ripken. As irrational as that might initially sound, it would probably be a wise move.
If you think that’s heresy, you’re underrating Manny Machado. This could all work out for the Orioles, just like it worked out when the Mariners lost Ken Griffey, Jr., Alex Rodriguez, and Randy Johnson within a few years of each other. Klein’s logic wasn’t wrong. He described a possible deal as a “shortcut to respectability,” which is exactly how the current Orioles are looking at this trade.
What the Orioles had before this trade was a wondrous talent, someone who made baseball worth watching even in the very worst years. Even in the years when they had a .289 winning percentage, like they do now. He was a name that looked great on the back of a jersey and someone who made the jobs easier for the marketing and promotions folks. A ballpark giveaway? Uh, yeah, sure, how about a Manny Machado ... golf umbrella? Yes, yes, a golf umbrella in the shape of Machado’s head. That’s 30,000 tickets sold and something that will keep you dry.
What the Orioles have now is a void that they’ll attempt to fill with all sorts of replacement Machados. Maybe it’s one of the guys who came over from the Dodgers, or maybe it’s the draft pick they’ll have earned with their unfathomably miserable play this year. They’ll get these prospects, give them a little sunlight, a little water, and watch them grow.
The odds are overwhelmingly, astronomically against anyone being as good as Machado. That goes for any prospects in the organization now, and it goes for any prospects in the organization in the next five years. Them’s just the odds. That’s how good Machado has been, and that’s how rare for a player to accomplish what he’s accomplished before turning 25.
Machado was an idea once. He was the reward for losing 98 games in 2009, and Orioles fans got to sit and stare at the Baseball America scouting reports and think, “What if?” Then he was a prospect, a top prospect, and the Orioles could think “What if?”, but a little more confidently, with more details filled in. Then he was a teenager outplaying most of the veterans, and then he was an All-Star on a team that was four wins from the World Series. The “What if?” became a cry of jubilation that translated to “We get to watch this guy. We get to watch this guy.”
Now they’re back to prospects and “What if?” They had no choice. Convincing Machado to stick around just in case would have been tough. Losing him for a compensatory draft pick would have been tough. They had to trade him. They probably should have traded him years ago if they couldn’t extend him, with the benefit of hindsight.
But Manny Machado was on the Orioles, and now he’s not. In his place, at the bottom of the hill, is a whole mess of uncertainly and the realistic scenario that they’ll have to wait years for a player who was even close to this valuable or fun. It could happen.
It’s just a damned shame that this couldn’t keep happening, though. Sports are just the worst.
The passage of time is just the worst.

Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jonesone of the greatest switch-hitters in baseball history—shares his remarkable story, while capturing the magic nostalgia that sets baseball apart from every other sport. Before Chipper Jones became an eight-time All-Star who amassed Hall of Fame–worthy statistics during a nineteen-year career with the Atlanta Braves, he was just a country kid from small town Pierson, Florida. A kid who grew up playing baseball in the backyard with his dad dreaming that one day he’d be a major league ballplayer. With his trademark candor and astonishing recall, Chipper Jones tells the story of his rise to the MLB ranks and what it took to stay with one organization his entire career in an era of booming free agency. His journey begins with learning the art of switch-hitting and takes off after the Braves made him the number one overall pick in the 1990 draft, setting him on course to become the linchpin of their lineup at the height of their fourteen-straight division-title run. Ballplayer takes readers into the clubhouse of the Braves’ extraordinary dynasty, from the climax of the World Series championship in 1995 to the last-gasp division win by the 2005 “Baby Braves”; all the while sharing pitch-by-pitch dissections of clashes at the plate with some of the all-time great starters, such as Clemens and Johnson, as well as closers such as Wagner and Papelbon. He delves into his relationships with Bobby Cox and his famous Braves brothers—Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, among them—and opponents from Cal Ripken Jr. to Barry Bonds. The National League MVP also opens up about his overnight rise to superstardom and the personal pitfalls that came with fame; his spirited rivalry with the New York Mets; his reflections on baseball in the modern era—outrageous money, steroids, and all—and his special last season in 2012. Ballplayer immerses us in the best of baseball, as if we’re sitting next to Chipper in the dugout on an endless spring day.   Many factors go into determining the value of your signed collectible. Today, we look at five key areas which contribute to your signed collectible’s value.
The top factor concerning your item’s value is who authenticated it. Without authentication, your signed collectible’s value is only worth what someone is willing to pay and has no real value in the open market. But if a trusted source authenticates your item, the signature’s value increases.
There is a demand for authenticated sports memorabilia. A Michael Jordan autographed basketball authenticated by UDA is worth hundreds of dollars more than the same basketball signed by Jordan without authentication. If your item hasn’t been authenticated, I recommend contacting a third party authentication company and have them review it. There is an associated fee charged, but it is well worth it if you ever plan on selling your collectible or if you are passing it down to someone else.
Second, how good was the player? A player’s greatness helps the signature’s value in a big way. For example, Tom Brady is one of the best football players of all time. Because of this, his signature’s value is one of the highest in sports. The same holds true for Hank Aaron, Magic Johnson, and Wayne Gretzky. All three are among the greatest to play their respective sport. Player records, “Hall of Fame” status, along with world championship wins, are just a few aspects that play an integral part in a signature’s value.

Third, how scarce is their signature? Going back to the example of Tom Brady — he does not sign a lot of autographs. His signature isn’t only valuable because he’s a great player but also because there are so few authenticated Tom Brady signatures out there.
Barry Bonds’ signature, back when he was playing (and even today), was almost impossible to get. He did not attend autograph shows and would not sign at the ballparks. To many collectors, his signature is gold because it is so hard to find. On the other hand, there are players like Cal Ripken, Jr. When he played, he regularly signed at the ballparks. And, now, he does autograph shows all over the country. His signature carries value, but not as much as if it weren’t everywhere. The more he signs, over time, the more his signature’s value will diminish.
Fourth, what item did the athlete sign? Value is considerably determined by what gets signed. For instance, a signed Lebron James Jersey is worth a lot more than a signed Lebron James photograph. Helmets and Jerseys are two of the most valuable items you can get signed. Balls, bats, cleats, and gloves (to name a few) tend to maintain stable values. Signed, yet unframed, photographs are usually worth much less had their framed counterparts. Signed game-used items carry a greater value because of how limited the piece is. In the golf world, a photo typically has more value as golf balls do not sign well and are hard to read. Only a limited number of collectors collect signed visors, so the photo is a more valuable when it comes to golf.
Fifth, a player’s popularity can sway value. Derek Jeter was a great baseball player. He played for the Yankees, and the majority of the sports watching world liked and respected him — a fact that contributed a great deal to the increase in his signature’s value. During the time when Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa battled to break Roger Maris’ record for “Most Home Runs in a Season,” both their signatures skyrocketed in value. Once their duel ended, the value began to drop. It dropped even further when all the drug speculation began. Jeremy Lin, when he played for the New York Knicks, was on an incredible run. As a result of his increased popularity, his signature was in high demand. He wasn’t going to be the next Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, but people loved him. Now that he’s come back to earth, and is playing at a very average level, his signature is not worth anything near what it was during that short stretch. One last example is that of Joe Montana — he signs a lot of autographs but is still so popular with fans that his signature’s value holds up.
As you can see, an autographed item’s value is determined by many factors. Not just these five, but also considerations like the pen that was used, as well as its color. Also, where the item was signed can have an effect on its value.
Hopefully, these five key areas will help you when it comes to determining the value of your signed sports collectible. And, until next time, please check out GamedayConnexion.com for further information, old blog posts, upcoming signings, and all your sports collectible needs!!
