Hey, remember that amazing continuous-cables technique? I had an idea for a thing to do with it, and spent two days knitting swatches and fiddling with charts. On the third day I ached all over and had a slight fever, so either I'd been coming down with something or I'd been divinely inspired.
After a couple of days of recovery, I looked at my swatch and realized it needed its obvious counterpart, so then I spent another week designing an even worse chart. It didn't need the continuous-loop grafting, at least. It just used a lot of weird non-standard cables.
So now I have these:

The motifs are both 52 rows high, and they both start and end with 19 stitches. The stitch counts change a lot in the middle, though. I have a few things I want to tweak and refine in the charts, and then I don't know what to do with them. I despair at the thought of ever writing any kind of usable instructions for them, or even annotating the charts so anyone other than myself can read them.
It could be done, of course. I just don't want to spend the amount of time it would take, unless somebody was willing to offer me piles of money, or really interesting bribes.
ETA okay I'm working on cleaning up the charts! Not sure how long it's going to take. Watch this space for further announcements.

A left-handed sheet bend creates a much weaker connection, especially under moderate loads.
Sheet Bend [Explained]
Transcript
[Above the drawing there is a header. Below the header there is a double-core wire going in from the left and stopping just past the middle of the picture. It shows how the inside of the wire looks and how the silver and golden wires inside are connected to two rectangular pieces of silver and golden material respectively. The golden piece is to the left and the silver piece to the right, closest to the end of the wire. Beneath this wire is shown two double-core wires forming a knot of the sheet bend type. Here it becomes clear that the silver and golden pieces are on the outside of the wires (but connected to the wires running inside the wires). In the knotted part of the wires gold touches gold and silver touches silver, without them touching the other color. Beneath this knot there is a label for the connector.] Cursed Connectors #46: The Sheet Bend

Everything is distracting chaos around here, and likely to stay that way until the holidays are over. I've hastily uploaded the snake cable pattern to Ravelry, and am probably going to disappear from the internet until visiting relatives have gone back home. If I have time, though, I'll see if I can wade through the storefront interface enough to figure out how to enable a discount code of some sort.
The flaming sword probably won't go up until after the new year, and I'm planning to do some kind of deal if you buy them both at once. So you may want to hold off on buying this thing for now.
