Anna: *is neglected and abandoned for majority of her life, starting at like age 5*
Anna: *runs into someone who actually sees Her and notices Her and doesn't act like she's invisible or a burden for the first time in over a decade*
Anna: hey sister I desperately want to notice me and will accept even the tiniest bit of attention from, here is a man I just met that is, *checks notes*, actually talking to me. I'm going to marry him.
Elsa: that's ridiculous! You just met him.
Anna: ~~yeah and in the few hours I've been with him he has talked to me more than you (or anyone else really) have in like 13 ish years~~ Oh haha yeah but like... I Know him and he's a prince!
Elsa: No. I don't approve.
Anna: ~~who the hell are you to approve??? You. Don't. Talk. To. Me.~~ Oh. Uh. Well can we talk about it? (Definitely is not desperate and terrified to lose the tiniest shred of a shred of a relationship she has with her sister) *Reaches out for the attention and affection she is so starved of*
Elsa: *freaks out, reveals giant secret, runs away*
Anna: holy *shit*... I gotta go make sure she's okay!! ~~I gotta make sure I don't lose her.~~
Anna: *goes after Elsa and gets shamed by another stranger for A going after her and B 'falling for a man she just met'*
Elsa: *rejects her more and tells Anna she is better off without her*
Anna: *heartbroken cause the last member of her family, the person she idolizes and so desperately wants love from, Keeps Rejecting Her.*
Anna: *leaves heart broken ~~and heart frozen~~ to go back to the only person this whole night who has shown her undivided 'love', attention, care, affection*
Hans: *is an asshole out of no where????*
Anna: *heartbroken AGAIN because she really can't trust anyone and maybe it's her own fault she's so unlovable.*
Elsa: *Is gonna be killed*
Anna: *is on the brink of literal death and when it comes to going after the stranger who is actually pretty nice and kind and likes her for her and treats her with respect vs the person who she has longed for her entire life even though she keeps pushing her away, she goes after her sister because despite it all she still wants Her love, hell just her Attention above anything else.*
The movie: This is true love 🥰
Me, definitely not projecting my own life onto this at twelve: Hold up this hurts a lot and I relate to these characters wait-
My sister: This movie is mine and only I get to sing and only I get to love it cause it's mine. But if you sing it perfectly and never mess up any of the words or notes I guess I'll let you watch with me.
Me: Really???? 😍🥺🥰🥺😍
...
Okay so this was going to be a critique about how Anna is seen as naive and dumb and it is used against her the entire movie without ever acknowledging *why* she's like that. And how a lot of fans don't see it either. But then it really just turned into me trauma dumping lmao.
But seriously. I feel like most of the neglect and abuse talk ends up being towards Elsa cause she visibly struggles more. And Anna hides it because she has to. Her parents were so worried about elsa that they didnt have time for her pain too. So it's hidden. But it is most definitely there. And it deserves to be mentioned and talked about.
Also this is a very common situation for emotionally neglected people to find themselves in. They cling onto someone showing the slightest bit of decency and believe it's good and amazing cause when you're starved, you'll eat poison if it might help for just a moment. Cause something is better than nothing. And when the something is bad and hurting, the pain of going back to nothing is worse. So you're stuck with a Hans believing it's what you deserve because of years of neglect and abuse.
But yeah. Anna is just dumb and naive. Definitely no trauma on her end.
Bottom line:
Anna deserves better. In canon and from fandom. And ESPECIALLY from Disney.

The Southern Seas
Anna is not the first royal to go missing in the waters around Arendelle, but she is the first to wake up vomiting seawater in a siren’s lair. Prince Hans vanished when she knocked him into the ocean; now she has an answer to that mystery in his scaled fish tail and a hundred new mysteries as a result.     Hans needs a crown to regain his humanity, and with his plans in Arendelle ruined he needs the support of a family who declared him dead a decade ago. A rescued princess could prove his identity, a rescued enemy would prove his good intentions, and his former-fiancée has once again provided the missing piece.      The proposition is simple this time. He can get her to his brother’s coronation, she can help him prove who he is, and they can part ways for good.      But the Southern Isles are not Arendelle, the ocean is not kind, and curses require more than love to break. Hans has one more trip ashore before the curse becomes permanent, and with only a fortnight on land, he and Anna fight to keep the humanity he’s tried so hard to win back.

Disney's Most Hated Villain 10 Years Later
Tumblr media
Now when I say "Disney's most hated villain", I don't mean he's the Disney villain that most people hate most, I literally mean he seems to be the villain most hated by Disney themselves. The shots taken at him in Big Hero 6, Frozen Fever, Kingdom Hearts III, Frozen II, and even recently in Once Upon A Studio all seem to suggest that there are some people high up at Disney who just really did not care for this guy, like they blame the ascendance of "twist villains" in Disney movies on him and want to take it out on him, despite how massively successful and popular the movie he was the villain of was and still is. It's just the most preculiar thing. A whole 10 years later and we've finally get another traditional, openly and bombastically evil villain in King Magnifico of Wish, and given how utterly polarizing that movie is turning out to be among all the earliest critics and audience viewers, I have to wonder if he'll now become Disney new punching bag for setting this new course! I swear, there's no pleasing folks these days!
But this post is for some thoughts on him and why I feel a lot of people online still get Hans wrong. He's not the most competently executed and well defined case of a twist villain, nor is he the worst, most bullshit twist villain ever who needed to be excised from the film so Elsa could keep the Big Bad spot. Taking him as he is, Hans is a B grade or C grade Disney villain at most, with lots of character potential even if it doesn't fully come together in the movie itself.
By far the most common and greatest misconception about Hans as a character is the idea that the moment of the reveal that he was an evil villain the entire time, and the very nature of re-establishing and re-contextualizing his character as a villain, is meant to cast him as some devious, manipulative mastermind who was pulling strings for the film's whole present day plot and had ill intent behind his every word and deed, even if that seems contradictory to the character we'd been watching up to that point. This is false. Hans has never mastered the chessboard, only played on it. He had a firmly set goal from the moment he showed up in Arendelle - become its ruler - but he did not have any solid plan on how he was going to make this ambition a reality. So he was winging it the whole movie. I mean, he basically says as much to Anna in that scene yet so many viewers were too distracted by reeling from either shock or confusion over the outing of Hans as the bad guy that they seemed to miss that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crux of Hans as an antagonist in the film is that he is a broken soul who grew up miserable and with an absence of love in his life, and it warped him into a high functioning sociopath who can easily detach himself from his heart and emotions, becoming whatever the current circumstance or person he's presently interacting with best requires him to be in the ways that best advance his own interests. He's like the worst possible outcome of what Anna or Elsa could've grown up to be had their childhoods taken an even worse turn. And above all, he is a man of many masks, rarely ever showing his true face. The mask is hollow and flexible, serving as a mirror to whoever Hans is in contact with (His nice, adorkable, and worried moods perfectly match Anna's, his angry and confrontational moods perfectly match Weselton's, his saddened and sympathetic moods perfectly match Elsa's - absolutely none of it is authentic). There's only a select few times we see the mask pulled back and get to see Hans' true face, those times being these moments and shots here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first shot is him lowering the phony Prince Charming mask and visibly expressing that he was genuinely charmed to meet Anna. No, he doesn't have any "love at first sight" feelings for her, nor is he at the point where he plans on getting close to her and asking for her hand in marriage - it's simply an amused fondness for this quirky, clumsy Arendelle girl he just conversed with.
This next shot is him looking towards the mountain and realizing Elsa is there. In animation, there's even the briefest hint of a grin as he turns and gives orders afterwards, 'cause he wants to seize and exploit this opportunity to play the big hero for Arendelle. Also worth mentioning is that while Hans has no one he loves, he does treat his horse Sitron well. It's pretty much his only friend.
The infamous split second shot where Hans' eyes dart up towards the chandelier before he jumps to action and turns the soldier's crossbow away from Elsa and to the candelier that drops on Elsa. This is Hans as a Xanatos Speed Chess player shown in practice.
That smarmy, mean-spirited grin that comes over his face as he says the infamous, ever memetic line that reveals his villainy.
The shot when he sees Elsa has broken out of her prison cell. Again, the good guy mask is lowered to show he's not pleased.
THIS SHOT. This is Hans fully unmasked and fully unrestrained.
The last we see of him before he's thrown out of the story.
So what's with all the Hans hate, from Disney fans and Disney itself? TV Tropes' page of Character Perception Evolution states this:
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how entirely accurate this is since from what I recall, Hans and the twist of his villainy was getting shit on from very early on. I have to disagree that the twist was not properly foreshadowed or at least not in a way that was substantial enough (aside from those "lowering the mask" parts, all of Hans' lyrics in "Love Is An Open Door" put his intentions and the angle he was playing in plain sight, he immediately flip-flops his position when Anna charges him with looking over Arendelle in the sisters' absence, and right before the reveal he straight up lies by omission to Elsa's face by not telling her that he's currently the leading authority in Arendelle and thus has the power to grant her leniency rather than "persaude the other nobles" to do so), but the execution of the reveal with his sudden shift into a totally different character than the one we'd been watching for the previous two thirds of the film absolutely should've been handled better in execution; he needed to slow it down a bit in between saying that notorious line and snuffing out all the lit fires in the room while expositing in a villainous monologue sort of way. The idea that Elsa should've been the villain rather than Hans and Hans should've been the male love interest instead of Kristoph are simply opinions, and I'm not exactly in agreement with them, more on that in a bit.
I've said it plenty of times before and will repeat: to me, the most crippling weakness of Hans as the villain of this film is that the way he's been designed, the very nature of his sociopathic character who always wears masks, mirrors other characters, and comes up with new moves to advance his interests, rendered it very difficult for us to get a good grasp on who he truly is and feel like we'd really gotten to know him by the time the movie was over. And you could make the argument this isn't a flaw so much as it is a necessary evil in order to make Hans' role in the story work as best as it could...but I feel that argument falls flat when Disney/Pixar later gave us a similar twist villain who did what Hans did but better and even more effectively as a full-fledged character in a much shorter amount of screentime.
Tumblr media
Erenesto De La Cruz, like Hans, is first cast in a positive light and set up as a good guy in the story, though we don't meet him in person until the third act of Coco. Like Hans, he's got an amiable personality and fast strikes up a friendly relationship with the main character. Like Hans, he is very evidently not without genuine decent qualities. Like Hans, the reveal of him as a murderous sociopath who is the true villain of the story is a very shocking moment. And like Hans, he's a big factor in the climax and gets dealt a satisfactory karmic comeuppance. But the thing that set Ernesto apart from Hans is that he doesn't wear any masks to conceal he's "secretly evil". He has a public image that conceals this, yes, but for all the time he's on screen and an active agent in the story, he is his authentic self. All of the nicer qualities we see from him aren't made up, they're real parts of who he is...and who he is just also happens to be a vainglorious sociopath devoid of a conscience who will do anything to anyone under any circumstance in order to "seize his moment" and build up a legacy that keeps him the center of attention even long after he's passed away. While he's still under the mistaken belief that Miguel is his great grandson, before he learns he's actually that to Hector, he has him put away and draws a parallel to how he poisoned Hector to death as he does so - he was never at any point in life pretending to be Hector's best friend, "Hector WAS my best friend", as he puts it. And it just ultimately matters less to him than himself and his own self-interested pursuits. That is a truly chilling villainous character who leaves a strong impression after the movie's over despite how little he was on screen. Hans was almost that, but fell short of the mark because we were left with no clear picture of who he was.
Luckily for Hans, he did get other chances to show more character:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In closing, I will still have to defend Hans' position as the story's only true villain. Yes, Disney going all out with Elsa and her powers driven out of control from her fears as the primary antagonist probably would've been the best option, but once they were set on making Elsa much less of a villain than envisioned, someone needed to play the part in order to make the climax happen and it absolutely could not be the Duke of Weselton, a character so comically unpleasant and openly against Elsa and in it for his own interests rather than Arendelle's that there is no way in Frozen Hell that Elsa would ever be convinced by him of anything like Anna being dead from Elsa's own freezing powers. That lie had to come from someone who could convincingly make Elsa believe it because they'd come off so sincere, someone she'd think could have no possible reason to lie to her. It had to be someone like Hans, someone with a heart so frozen cold that he could effortlessly mimic human emotion he didn't really feel. That is a crucial part of the story's climax that, even beyond the danger to Anna's heart, was foreshadowed from the very beginning.

Elsa’s Masquerade
Word count: 330
Relationship: Elsa x Female reader
Rated: G
Summary: Elsa meets a masked stranger at the Masquerade. A short story idea that most likely has grammatical errors. Let me know. Feel free to comment, like, and enjoy.
Tumblr media
"Ah, Your Majesty," one of the palace staff calls upon finding the queen looking out upon the balcony.
"There's no need for formalities." The queen reminds
"The guests are ready." He bows, walking alongside the queen in the grand halls. "Seems that only yesterday you two were mere children. Now off to get married," he reminisced.
"This is only Anna's engagement celebration. The wedding is a long ways away." She corrects.
"Then it will be your turn, Your Majesty," he says with a teasing look.
Elsa wrinkles her nose, as she did as a child.
"It's Anna's day." She exhales, picking up a crystal mask that is perfectly fitted to her face.
Tumblr media
Watching everyone from across the land, she peeks to see another woman watching as well. She catches her eyes, causing Elsa to blush as she looks away.
"Are Arendelle’s gatherings usually this extravagant?" the stranger asks.
"No, they’re usually much bigger." Elsa sighs, smiling at the sight of Anna dancing with Sven and Kristoff dancing with Olaf pulling off his arms on the spin. "What kingdom are you from?" her majesty asks, trying to take a peek at the little skin the stranger's mask allowed on her face.
"Masquerade-themed engagement party," Anna’s voice squealed in her mind.
Only E/C eyes that twinkled in the flames of candles littered the great hall’s chandeliers.
"Too small for a majesty such as yourself to take notice of," she shrugs.
"I make it my mission to know all kingdoms, big and small." Elsa corrects. They joke as she lists every kingdom alphabetically.
"A dance, your Majesty." She asks, extending her hand while bowing. Elsa chuckles hesitantly, taking her hand. Allowing herself to be pulled out into the crowd. Placing Elsa’s hand on her shoulder while she loops hers around her waist "You’re leading." The stranger points out.
"As a queen should." Elsa states, head high.
"Who says I’m not a queen as well?" She counters by cutting Elsa off with a spin.

Alyra privately identifies with Elsa from Frozen
Raina is also the champion of drunk-girl compliments in the ladies' room at the Hanged Man
Aisling is the kind of person who would despise the new hit pop song, get it stuck in her head, hum it incessantly, and then begrudgingly come to love it
How close am I? (Also sorry about your tablet! :c)
Alyra: nope.
Maybe she would if Elsa was a commoner and not a person in a position of power. As it is, she will get so annoyed by her. So. Annoyed. "It's her kingdom, she's the queen, why is she running?? She can freeze them all over and solve the problem???" cit. to an Anora that whole-heartedly agree with her and finds just the legal note to win Arendelle over anyway, and an Alistair that just wanted to sing along and didn't sign up for any of this. She will watch Frozen and think that Hans is the only sensible character, if Anna's so stupid as to fall for that pathetic tale it wasn't his fault. If you tell her she's Elsa, she would take offence and start on an hour long speech showing you why she's a Tiana without the daddy issues. ...there's a 2/10 because look she now likes Disney Princesses and is informed about them enough to identify with one.
Raina: 9/10. Definitely yes, but add that she'll start crying halfway because she's a crybaby when drunk and will burst at nothing. "Your hair is SO pretty! Such lustruous and shiny! It's clear you take so much care of it and it shows you're so pretty! *sobs* You take so much care of your hair! So, so much!" *sobs sobs*
She will unironically like Frozen even if she'd find Let it Go annoying, as a song. For the joy of all her friends who won't have to deal with her killing it at the next karaoke session. She'll get Fixer Upper stuck in her head, tho, and will laugh so hard at Lost in the Woods in the second movie. Lost in the Woods will then proceed in being a favourite of her at karaoke night.
Aisling: 10/10 Yes, she will also sing them aloud, with emotion, if you give her a clue. DadWolf AU: Cullen dragged her and Dorian to more than one Ed Sheeran concert which metalhead Aisling told she absolutely loathed and just went because she was such a good friend (and he promised to buy her pizza on their way back). Years later: Cullen: "I see fiiiiiiiiire-" Aisling: "-Inside the moooun-NO!!!" Cullen: ">:) " She's the one that privately will identify with Elsa and when left home alone will spend time with a karaoke version of Frozen and singing Let it Go to the top of her lungs.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock iii x Anna of Arendelle
It's a well known fact that Anna hates bitter food and drinks. Why would she burn her tongue away to such things? Her family knows it, her friends know it, hell, maybe even the friendly neighborhood cat that has been loitering around knows it. But when her favorite cafe [they have the best pastries made by her friend Rapunzel!] in the city hires a new barista, he's clueless as to what their regular customer Anna has to order. Most especially when she was left tongue tied from seeing him. And so, out of politeness, and maybe a little bit of excitement when she asked for his recommendation, Anna ends up with Iced Americano for the first time in her life. Needless to say, this ends up in a misunderstanding where Hiccup [oh no, even his name is cute for Anna!] thinks he and Anna have the same taste. Thus, resulting numerous amusing situations whenever Anna finds more excuses to stay in the cafe. What's a girl in love gotta do to keep his attention on her after all?

Why Hans is not simply a "Villain", and why his absence in Frozen 2 is justified:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frozen is not a franchise about Villains going around, creating a "Good Vs Evil" situation, as it's not a franchise where the Love Interest is the main sentimental force: it's about two Sisters growing and maturing in response to terrible trauma and years of isolation.
Hans moves perfectly and is so impactful when he reveals himself in F1 because he's the "first important person" Anna meets outside the castle, but it's also the person whose behavior and actions are in "contrast" with Elsa's troubled and dangerous one during the whole story:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we wanted to simplify Anna's journey in a schematic way, we could put it down like this: Elsa is her Point A, Hans is her Point B and Kristoff is her Point C.
Kristoff is put in the middle of a situation where Anna moves from Elsa to Hans, and from Hans to Elsa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her unusual need for romance is driven from the lack of a relationship with her sister, but it's also mediated by the fact that she was "raised in a castle", used to a certain view of who the "perfect man" his and this creates her own "narrative constrast" with Kristoff, something that's only hers, impacting thing even more when she realizes "too late" that Kristoff loves her:
Tumblr media
Then, why leaving Hans out of Frozen 2 works? Because of two important reasons:
Frozen 2 is focused on Elsa's POV, a search for answers about her powers and her true destiny, diving in their parents and family history, and that creates the subvertion about romance and villainy in this context;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The events of Frozen are the base for the characters insecurities, even if they all think everything seems perfectly fine because of Anna's belief in "Happy Endings";
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hans would've capitalized far too easily the situation. I would remind how Frozen 2, focusing on Elsa and her powers's origin, showing her taming the Spirits, forced the directors to limit the Kristanna content and relegate Kristoff to a secondary role, while, in one of the previous versions, his arc saw him already engaged to Anna from the start (Get This Right), but also hiding his unsatisfaction regarding his life in Arendelle (all things we saw Anna enjoyed and craved in F1), causing a temporaly break up when he was forced by the Nokk to reveal his own truth, with Anna clearly reliving Hans lies and cruelties;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In regards to this last point, there is another a important detail: if we recall HOW things happened in the fist movie, the only caracter that actually saw and lived Hans full cruelty and selfishness was Anna herself, while Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff & Sven only based their experiences on what she told them of him, or purely believing his lies and then facing the consequences of his actions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's probably both the most unresolved aspect from the first movie, but also the reason why Hans could've been such an heavy burden for the narrative, without having the other main characters "prepared" like they are now with this new status quo: how giving him space and getting to know who he truely is, without becoming easily overwhelming for the characters is they were in the same context we saw them at the end of the 1st Frozen?

About the Anna having fire powers question: Wouldn't Elsa feel some initial horror at learning Anna has powers like she does since from her perspective it looks like Anna has also been cursed? Speaking of which how might other people react to Anna's fire powers? How exactly might this change the events of the first and second movie? Could Anna perhaps undo the winter? And assuming she can also make clothes with her magic, what kind of fire outfit do you see Anna wearing?
(In response to this post)
I suppose Elsa would have some fearful emotions for Anna having powers. Elsa in F1 feels that her powers are a curse, so it is possible that she would view Anna's that way as well. Maybe she would be over protective and try to help Anna hide it. Or, since we know she is curious about the source of her magic, she might actually become fearful as to why both her and Anna have opposing powers. Are they mean to be enemies? Is Anna meant to destroy her or keep her in check? The reverse?
It's difficult to say though, she loves Anna so her viewing something of hers as a curse seems strange to me.
I think other people would react to Anna's fire powers the same way they reacted to Elsa's Ice powers. With fear and confusion. Maybe even more so since fire is more associated with destruction. However, since the people of Arendelle warmed up to Elsa after she showed her kindness, they would probably warm up to Anna as well (Hehe - Warm up).
Hans might actually want her even more after finding out about her magic. Not only would he have a Queen, but a Queen with dangerous fire magic that he has under his thumb. That would be a quite the prize for him I would think. It would also be more of a challenge as well though, since he would have to play his cards right not to get burned.
In terms of changes, I would feel that Anna would probably use her magic to help warm people up during the Eternal Winter. There's also a good chance that Anna being hit the heart with the magic could've not affected her. Maybe. Not sure how the magic works with other magical beings to be honest.
In F2, Elsa probably wouldn't be as defensive over Anna, since Anna can indeed protect herself. There's a good chance that Anna would've heard the siren voice as well, so they both would be on the same page of finding Ahtohallan. However, Anna might be a bit more reluctant, since she would still be struggling with change at this point.
We first need to discuss what exactly does 'fire powers' actually means.
Elsa, at the most basic level, is technically controlling Cold in itself. She is (in theory) freezing the air and water vapor around her to cause ice and snow to appear and create a winter season. With this ice and snow, she can create objects, solidify water memories, and weave the ice crystals into the fabric of her dresses to create the outfits.
If Anna only has fire powers, then no. She wouldn't really be able to create outfits. Fire isn't a solid to be able to morph with clothes. Thus, what you're actually wanting Anna to have is magical power over Heat. Which makes this a bit broad and still makes the object morphing a bit difficult.
In order for Anna to create things, she would have to melt something to be able to shape it. Like how you melt clay in order to create something. However, you get different results when you melt certain objects. Sand turns to glass, or rock turns to magma, for example. A glass or magma dress sounds painful to be honest.
There's also to option to melt her clothes and shape a new outfit I guess. But then, not every fabric type reacts the same way to heat. Some just turn to dust, and others are flame resistant to an extent.
I'm probably over thinking this, to be honest. There is the magical component involved, after all. If Anna could create her own outfits, I imagine it would look something like this -
Tumblr media
(c) Midjourney
Since Anna loves flowy ball gowns rather than the sleek dresses that Elsa likes to wear.
In terms of Anna reversing the winter - no. I don't think so. Jennifer Lee once implied her personal belief was that even if Hans killed her, the winter wouldn't stop. So, if Elsa's own death wouldn't end the winter, then I doubt Anna's magic could reverse it. Only Elsa could do it, and only when she felt love from others and herself.

AU in which Elsa of Arendelle gets sent to the Isle because of the winter curse, never mind that A. it was accidental, B. it’s all fixed now, and C. she’s the queen. In this, Auradon would really have to be....well, all the countries didn’t necessarily unite peacefully, I’ll just say.
There is no magic on the Isle. But Mal and Maleficent have their glowing green eye thing, and Celia could do things with her shadow. So innate magic, magic within a person, that the person is born with (especially if the person isn’t human) can never completely be blocked. And elemental magic is powerful.
So on the Isle, Elsa’s skin is freezing, and it’s always cold in whatever room she’s in. People sometimes pay her to let them use her home as a refrigerator. Also, whenever she’s in a good mood it snows, gently and lightly.
Meanwhile, back in Arendelle, Anna takes the throne but refuses to be crowned Queen, ruling instead as the Queen Regent, waiting for the day her sister will come home.
She also names her first daughter Elsa. (Her second is Iduna, and I don’t know what she names her other children.) One day Elsa Jr. approaches the VKs at Auradon Prep to ask about her aunt.

TDOE Day 1- Eloise at Christmastime
Set in @couragedontdesertme‘s Falling Slowly verse! Sorry, can’t link it here right now.
Alarik, Jenny and Neta belong to @patricia-von-arundel.
LET THE GOOD TIMES BEGIN!!!
Eloise Jenny and Neta at Christmastime
Rating: K
"Pssst. Neta! Neta, wake up!"
Neta grumbled and rolled away from the sound of her cousin's voice, pulling the covers over her head.
"Netaaaaa, wake up!"
"Go back to sleep Jenny, it's too early!"
"Neta, it's JUL!"
Neta shot upright, all traces of tiredness gone. Jul! The biggest celebration in Arendelle- how could she have forgotten? When she looked over, Jenny was grinning and bouncing.
"Come on, come on, come on!"
Jenny took Neta's hand and tugged. Neta let herself be pulled out of bed, pausing to put on a pair of slippers. Jenny's feet remained bare- she never noticed the cold. They were passing Aunt Elsa's and Uncle Alarik's room when Neta heard her mother's voice coming from the same room. Neta stopped- that was strange.
"Elsa, it will be alright. Really-"
"It's our tradition, Anna!" Aunt Elsa sounded like she was close to tears. Neta and Jenny shared a concerned glance- what could make Aunt Elsa so upset?
"Elsa, they will show up, I promise. Let's focus on today, and we'll keep an eye out for them, alright?"
Aunt Elsa sniffled. "Alright."
Footsteps approached the door, prompting Jenny and Neta to race back to the room and close the door.
"What's a 'tradition'?" Jenny asked.
Neta shrugged. "I don't know. But Aunt Elsa seemed sad about losing it."
"I know." Jenny looked thoughtful for a moment, and then her face brightened. "Let's ask Bestemor and Bestefar! They'll know!"
"What will we know?"
Both Neta and Jenny jumped- they hadn't heard Bestemor enter the room.
"What's a 'tradition', Bestemor?" Jenny asked.
Bestemor's lined face crinkled into a smile. "A tradition? Well… it's something people do at special times, something that's been passed down from person to person. Or it's something special to a place." When she noticed their scrunched-up faces, bestemor gestured outside. "Such as ringing the Jul bell. That's a tradition for Arendelle. Or when we read as a family after the ball. That's our family's tradition. Why do you-"
"Your Majesty? Pardon my interruption, but His Majesty would like to go over final details for tonight's ball." Kai stood in the doorway, giving the family a deep bow.
"Of course." Bestemor rose to her feet, placing a hand on Jenny's and Neta's shoulders. "Now, get dressed you two. I'll see you at breakfast." She leaned over to kiss each of them on the forehead before leaving.
"I don't know how Mama lost a tradition." Jenny's brow was furrowed. "No one's ever lost the Jul bell before. It's too big."
"But Bestefar lost the book last year." Neta pointed out, as she pulled out her dress. "Bestemor had to find it for him. Maybe that's what happened to Aunt Elsa's tradition."
Jenny's eyes lit up. "Then we can look for it! After breakfast- everyone will be busy then! Let's surprise them!"
………..
It wasn't until after breakfast, when they were able to sneak off, that Neta pointed out a big problem with Jenny's plan.
"What are we looking for?"
The question made Jenny pause- she clearly hadn't thought that far ahead.
"I don't know. Maybe some books? We could look in her study."
Nets looked uncertain, but followed Jenny when she started walking. They were halfway to the study, when Jenny stopped abruptly, causing Neta to stumble.
"Jenny! What…"
Her cousin was staring at a ladder left out by one of the servants. She turned back to Neta with a grin.
"The attic!"
"Wait, what?"
Jenny was already headed towards the stairs, only pausing long enough to grab Neta's hand and drag her along.
"The attic! There's a bunch of stuff up there! And Kai left a ladder up in the spare room! Let's go!"
Any arguments Neta might have voiced were left behind as Jenny continued her enthusiastic rush to the residential wing. Her cousin fast when she wanted to be, and it was all Neta could do to keep up. Only when they came to the spare room was Neta able to catch her breath.
"Jenny, I don't think this is a good idea…" Neta cautiously eyed the very tall ladder leading up to the trap door in the ceiling.
"It's fine!" Jenny rushed forward and started scrabbling up the ladder.
"Jenny!"
Neta clambered up after her, wishing she was anywhere but on the rickety old ladder. Above her, Jenny pushed the trapdoor open and climbed up. Neta followed her, her eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness. As she pulled herself up, her foot caught on the ladder, and she tipped forward.
Neta yelped, and kicked out on reflex. In a matter of seconds, everything went wrong. The ladder fell back, and the trapdoor swung shut. With another yelp, she pitched into Jenny, sending them both sprawling into the darkness. Several things began to fall, and Neta cried out when something hit her head.
Silence fell over both of them, save for their ragged breathing.
After a moment, Neta heard Jenny whisper, "Are you okay?"
"My head hurts."
"I'm really sorry." Jenny sounded as if she were about to cry. "It's all my fault."
Neta fumbled in the darkness until she found Jenny's arm, then her hand. She squeezed, trying not to cry herself. "It's okay."
Jenny sniffed, but squeezed back. "Can you find the door?"
Neta shook her head, then remembered that Jenny couldn't see her. "No. I fell. I don't know where…"
"Neta? Jenny? Where are you?"
"Mama!" Neta cried out. "Mama, we're up here! Help us!"
Neta heard her mother say "The attic!" After a moment, there was a clatter, footsteps, and to Neta's great relief, light flooded the dark room as Mama pushed the trapdoor open.
"Mama!" Neta all but collapsed into her mother's arms, clutching tight. The tears she'd been fighting to hold back now fell, rapid and insistent. Mama made a startled noise, and rubbed Neta's back.
"It's alright, it's okay. I've got you. Come here, Jenny." Neta felt Mama reach out, and moments later, Jenny cuddled in beside her. She too was crying.
"What happened!? Are you hurt?"
A cool hand ran over Neta's head, and she looked up to see Aunt Elsa's face, tight with worry. Before she could say anything, Jenny spoke up.
"It's my fault."
The story came spilling out, Jenny keeping her eyes firmly on the floor. Only when she came to the end did she look up, tears running down her cheeks.
"I didn't mean for Neta to get hurt! I just wanted to find the tradition! I'm sorry!"
"I'm fine. I just got a bump on my head." Neta rubbed the sore spot, and sighed in relief when Aunt Elsa pressed a cool hand to it.
"Tradition?" Mama asked.
Jenny hiccuped. "The- the one you and Mama were talking about this morning. The one you lost."
Aunt Elsa sighed, and she pulled Jenny closer. "Oh, little one. I appreciate you trying to help, but going up here alone is dangerous. I was looking for the dolls. They aren't stored up here."
Mama sighed too. "Actually…"
She got up and opened a trunk, pulling out something wrapped in paper. "I was hoping to do this tonight, but I suppose now is as good a time as ever."
Mama peeled the paper away, and they all gasped.
……
"'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house…"
Elsa rested her head on Alarik's shoulder, and his hand, wrapped around her, pulled her closer. Dag was fast asleep in his other arm, and Elsa used the corner of his blanket to wipe a dribble of milk from his lips.
As Agnar continued to read the poem, Elsa's eyes fell upon the dolls. They were, as was tradition, sitting atop the mantle above the family's stockings. Slugged replicas of her and Anna, from their own childhood, but now updated with the clothing and hairstyles each of them preferred as adults.
And it was no longer just the two of them.
At Anna's side was Kristoff in his ice-harvesting outfit, his shaggy yellow yarn hair falling over brown button eyes. And at her doll's side, Alarik, wearing a dark green vest and cream shirt, his red yarn hair a mess of curls pushed back to reveal bright green button eyes. Elsa's doll now held a small bundle with Dag's dark curly hair and tiny blue eyes just visible.
But there were two dolls missing from the group.
Elsa gazed down, smiling when she saw Jenny and Neta yawn in near unison. Between the attic incident, the ringing of the Jul bell, and the subsequent party, they had to be exhausted. And in each of their hands, they held the doll of the other.
As Agnar finished the poem, Jenny yawned again, slumping against Neta. Within seconds, the two of them were asleep.
"Time for bed." Anna whispered.
She pulled free of Kristoff's embrace and scooped Neta into her arms. Elsa did the same with Jenny, making sure the Neta doll was still tucked in her daughter's arms. Jenny made a small, sleepy noise, and cuddled closer to Elsa's chest.
"So, do you like the newest additions?" Anna nodded to the dolls.
Elsa smiled. "It's a perfect new tradition."

an orphan, he & his young reindeer buddy were raised primarily by rock trolls in the valley of the living rock.

B I O G R A P H Y .
this includes canon information, as well as headcanons. this contains SPOILERS.
assumingly an only child, kristoff was orphaned from a very young age, & he spent a lot of his time growing up around local ice harvesters, helping them as much as he could with his small frame. at around eight years of age, he rescued a young reindeer named sven, & soon the two came across a large family of rock trolls. he was promptly taken in by them & was raised by the group for the remainder of his childhood, allowing him to view them as his family. he grew up to become a professional ice harvester himself, & he traveled the nearby lands with his only friend sven often for work.
one day however, the kingdom fell into a sudden & seemingly perpetual winter, which he later learned was caused by the just-coronated queen losing control of secret ice powers. it was shortly thereafter that he met princess anna, who was out in search for her sister to make things right. after anna had bought him the equipment he'd been eyeing, he begrudgingly agreed to help her in her journey to find the queen. they eventually found her, after meeting a snowman from the girls' childhood, but anna was put into imminent danger & things took a dive before they soon got better. thankfully, things worked out for the group before he arrived here.

he took in a stray cat shortly after his arrival, who he named sven jr after his good friend. just like with the reindeer, he has full on conversations with himself, speaking as though the cat is talking to him. don't question it.

craftsmanship
Because @pureanonofficial dug up some information on the family crests and we realized that Sitron has wheat embroidered on his breastplate. Set, probably, during Love is an Open Door.
“Oh, wow!” Anna’s fingers traced over the wheat embroidered on the leather. “This is beautiful work -- it’s practically good enough to eat.” She winced. “I mean, not to eat, people don’t eat wheat - not without making flour, I guess.”
Hans was grinning, and she rolled her eyes.
“I’ll let the craftsman know the Crown Princess of Arendelle approves of his work.”
“Oh, yes, please and thank you.” She handed the leather strap back to Hans, who hung it beside the rest of Sitron’s tack. “So is your family crest wheat, then?” She winced again. “I mean, partially wheat -- I doubt it’s just a wheat field. Though if it was that’d be good too!” A proper princess would know the crests of the royal families in neighboring kingdoms, but Anna had never been proper. She leaned halfway over the stall door to stroke the nose of the horse in question, who blew against her hand gently. In the next stall, Kjekk let out a snort of jealousy. “I still love you, Kjekk!”
The answering grumble was nearly audible. Hans laughed and leaned against the stall door beside her, letting Kjekk nose at his fingers. “Kjekk?”
“Well, he is.” Anna stuck her tongue out and resisted the urge to cross her arms petulantly. “He’s the handsomest horse in Arendelle.”
“Oh, no doubt,” Hans cooed, more to the horse than Anna, and scratched the spot on Kjekk’s neck that made him melt. “Though he’s got competition now.” He grinned at Sitron, and Anna gasped in mock-affront, ready to defend her horse’s honor, before Hans cut across, “To answer your question -- no, my family crest is not wheat. But yours is.”
Anna narrowed her eyes. “Very smooth, Mister of-the-Southern-Isles, but you only just met me and you did not commission this this afternoon.”
“You’re right,” he admitted, as Kjekk nosed hopefully at his pockets for treats. Hans managed to dodge and keep the horse’s nose from the pristine white fabric of his suit. “Et tu, Kjekk? -- I was coming to the coronation of the Queen of Arendelle. It seemed appropriate to make the situation about Arendelle, not the Southern Isles.”
It made, Anna had to admit, a good amount of sense. Sitron huffed thoughtfully beside her until she resumed scratching behind his ear.
“Maybe when my brother is crowned, you can bring Kjekk,” Hans suggested, his voice faux-casual but his focus entirely on Anna, “and wear my family crest.”
Anna tried to hide her blush behind Sitron, who helpfully nosed at her shoulder.
