I love how clear it is that Caleb shows affection of all levels via gift giving. It’s clearest first in episode 10, giving Jester what money he finds in the sewers, giving Fjord the armor (even in exchange for the glove). I think even beyond affection, I think it’s just how he communicates. At the beginning, it contributes to why he’s so fixated on why everything has to be an exchange of some sort, he can’t be given anything for nothing, that’s not how it works...
