So for gekko I was Hella confused on what to do with him, all I know is I want him to have a Dino onsie-like hood :skull:

But I got I just needed time before coming up with something

His whole theme is supposed to be pastel/softie/baby core(?) Inspired

So uhh, let's make this clear. Instead of using pjamas, the pj masks have different accessories that they use to transform (like mlb) BUT their powers are made by different people, that's why their mechanics and costume designs are different.

Unlike the other two, Greg uses two items to transform into gekko, a dinosaur plush Keychain and a pair of gloves

Anyways, his hooded cape is supposed to be an adapted from the dino onsie he uses when transforming, the hood also doubles as a "mask"/covers his identity.

If he take off his hood, he would turn invisible (I'm trying to give him new powers mechanics)

He can spawn these sticky green goo, and by sticky, I mean it will litteraly NOT come off without gekko's will (Yes, the good is controlled by gekko's will)

he uses the goo to can climb on walls, roofs, etc.

Also cause this goo is really sticky, gekko could litteraly move ANYTHING, like cars, houses, mountains even. All he needed to do is spawn the goo, stick his goo covered gloves/boots on something he wants to carry/move, and just.. *pulls*

Also, since the goo is controlled by gekko's will, he can shape shift it to anything he wants, like a shield, wall, etc etc. But they all will still have the same sticky/bouncy consistency.

His powers are used more as defense instead of an attack

PLANES PILGRIM or DREAMLORD or ASTRALWALKER AU

Well ... not an Alternate Universe, per se, since the idea is post-canon. But you get what I mean. Anyway!

The basic idea is that Wirt and Greg, after the events of the series, possess and slowly develop certain powers related both to dreams and to alternate planes of existence. Those powers are: the ability to fall asleep at will, to awaken from a normal sleep at will, to enter planes of existence connected to our own (like The Unknown or The Desert or The Final Catarct or The Giant's Skull or The IKEA Eternal or The Starfield of Anorion, etc.) via their dreams, and to enter and manipulate the dreams of others.

To be clear, this is not to say everything that happened in The Unknown was All Just A Dream(TM); that trope is far too facile (and honestly boring) an interpretation for me, and also is not supported by canon. But it is undeniable, especially given how the brothers can reenter The Unknown in dreams in the comics taking place after the show, that The Unknown and the brothers' dreaming are related. Or, rather, they become related. Specifically because of the brothers passing into and then out of The Unknown via near-death experience.

People who can do this are sometimes called "Planes Pilgrims" (or "Pilgrims" for short). But also "Dreamlords" and "Astralwalkers" (also "Walkers" for short) depending on which plane they travel to. Because of their connection to "reality"--the main expanse of the fabric of space-time, of which the others planes are the fraying fringes of that fabric--they also possess the ability to act upon and cause changes to those planes. Otherwise, they tend to remain more-or-less timeless and essentially unchanging, without advancents or progress moving their world forward nor regressions or devolutions dragging it back (The Unknown, for example, if left to itself will always be vaguely and surreally like New England in the early 1800s) (The Beast is dead after the brothers' first misadventure because of their intervention, but otherwise would've always been a part of it).

So they get to explore more weird worlds and have more weird adventures! Yay! Especially as they gain more control over their powers with time, and thus more volition over when and where they'll go. Also who, if anyone, will accompany them. Sara was drawn unintentionally into The Unknown, I believe, by Wirt's desire to share some time with her. Later on, he'll be able to do such things intentionally. (Though accidents will always be a part of it, and "reality" and "surreality" can have a will of their own. It won't ever have a 100% guarantee.)

Upsides of these powers: No more insomnia ever again, and usually no more need for an alarm clock. And there are experiences in worlds beyond imagination!

Downsides: There are experiences in worlds beyond imagination, and that isn't always a pleasant or good thing. Besides, while dying in a dream has no real-world consequence, dying in one of these planes will kill your soul, thus your body will remain unresponsive in a supernatural coma until it eventually perishes. There is genuine danger to the soul, and to the body that can't reawaken as if from a normal, physical sleep.

Lighter uses of these powers: Fun times and new friends (especially since time moves differently, and weeks or months can be lived in the space of a real-world sleep). Or, when entering someone else's dreams, the ability to learn more about them and thus help their psyche. Even reawaken them from a coma.

Darker uses, since any power can be put to a dark use: Forcibly drag someone into another plane to banish them there (thus putting them into a supernatural coma). Torrment someone with nightmares, or spy on them in the most private and vulnerable of position. Good thing Greg and Wirt would never do such a thing, right? Unless ...

Anyway, just an AU idea that's been ricocheting around my head like an old screensaver.

Well, regarding the root cause for Goji's distaste for the Kong species, we gotta take a look at the whooole timeline of events and encounters he had with them. Dominion gave us what might have been Goji's first ever encounter with a Kong in the form of the Rival. We know he was significantly younger and weaker at the time, as since we know he gets up to a lot more after that, I think it's safe to assume this to be his first ever interaction with the Kong species.

And although we don't know of any other minor encounter such as that happening later on, we do know of a pretty big one: The Kong/Zilla Wars. Which we know for a fact that he took part in. How big of a part he played depends entirely on how you choose to interpret the GvK novel, which does go more in depth into what went down before, during, and after the war. And at the center of the firestorm that was the war, is one named character, Zlo-zla-Halawa, which in the iwi language means "Great Eternal Enemy." This, according to the iwi legends, was a Godzilla that "ate a star", becoming supremely powerful, but also 'wicked'. Not only in their eyes, but also that of their Kong overlords. Who, in a rather foolish attempt to not only eliminate what could be a potential threat to them, but also steal his power for themselves, attacked first.

We don't know of any specifics about what happened after that, only that this attack failed and kick-started the war between the two species. And after an undetermined amount of time, the Kongs were being seemingly overwhelming. Enough for a relatively small group of them to end up defecting. Abandoning the war, leaving behind the ones who were too bloodthirsty to seek a way out, as well as Zlo-zla-Halawa. These Kongs would eventually find their way to Skull Island, where they would stay in spite of the harsh conditions. Because not only was Skull Island considerably smaller than the Hollow Earth, it also did not have nearly as many resources. Which meant they could hardly survive, let alone thrive in it. And as generations passed, the Kongs in there would either starved, or shrink in size in order to make better use of those limited resources. And well, we know their story doesn't have a happy ending. As the Skullcrawlers, who we know to be an invasive species that most likely originated from the Hollow Earth itself, would eventually overwhelm them, and leave our Kong as the last one standing.

The GvK novel heavily implies that our Godzilla is or was Zlo-zla-Halawa. And given the fact that Greg Keyes, the guy who wrote the novel, also as Dominion and upcoming GxK novel, I am willing to believe that.

Right, there is that whole can of worms to consider as well. Zlo-zla-Halawa would definitely be seen as wicked by his enemies, especially if Godzilla himself was the Great Eternal Enemy, and Godzilla deciding to not only team up with Kong but not kill him becomes more meaningful with that in mind. Though he's still clearly willing to shoot fire at him in previews for GxK, but we'll have to wait and see if we get more context than "they don't have to like each other".

“ Tell me Mx. L/n, when was the last time you saw Jack?”

“ Tuesday night, he was sneaking out with Jenny.” 

“ What were you doing said Tuesday night?”

“ Watching movies with Greg. Jack was supposed to join us....he said he was busy.”

“ I see. We will file a missing persons case in the morning. We’ll inform all his relatives as soon as we can. Rest assured we will not stop until he is found.”

“ Thank you officer, have a good night.” 

You watched him walk away, tears brewing in your eyes. Greg appeared behind you, placing a hand on your shoulder.

“ Don’t worry Y/n, I’m sure they’ll find him.”

“ I sure hope so Greg...I knew that Jenny bitch was trouble.” You muttered, closing the apartment door.

They didn’t find him.

Life continued on, and people seemed to forget about the missing college student, everyone except for you and Greg. There was a small funeral for him, consisting of only his family & you two. There was nothing to bury, but a tombstone was made, in a field near the campus. You and Greg would often go and visit his grave, drinking to ease the pain. The fact that so many things were left unsaid ate at you. There were...feelings between Jack and you, there had been for a while, but you never worked up the nerve to tell him, oh how you regretted that.

Jenny and her friends were found dead, the police suspected a wild animal attack, after all no human would be able to make the gashes on their bodies. 

You constantly wore one of Jack’s old hoodies, a NASA one he would always wear when preparing for exams. He said it had special powers, and that he always did better on tests when wearing it. 

It was that exact hoodie you were wearing that one fateful night.

It was late, probably one in the morning. You were sitting beside Jack’s grave, beer in hand.

“ I wish you were still here.” You mumbled, slouching against his tombstone.

“ Everything would be easier if you were still with us. I miss you man, it’s not fair, why’d you have to be the one that was taken?” You stared out at the field around you. There were only a handful of other graves scattered around the field, flowers littered around their bases. You had brought a bouquet of Lavender and Tulips, a few loose petals falling onto the grass.

He loved Lavender. 

Tears fell from your eyes as you chugged your drink. You let out a sigh, dropping the now empty can beside you.

SNAP

You whipped your head around, looking for the cause of the noise. You pushed yourself up on your feet, ready to run. 

“ Hello?” You cringed at how pathetic you sounded. You squinted, trying to see if there was anyone else there, but there was nothing but tombstones.

“ I swear to god, this is not funny. Don’t fuck with me right now, it’s not a good time.” You muttered, grabbing your beer can from the ground and preparing to throw it at anyone that tried you. You saw something move from the corner of your eye, and you turned to face it. Behind one of the trees, a tall figure moved. You threw your can in the direction, hitting the tree. This startled the creature, and it moved behind the tree once again.

“ GO AWAY.” You yelled, looking for something else to throw. It once again poked its head out from the tree. It took a careful step towards you, almost as if it was trying not to scare you. It took another step, then another, each crunch of the grass below reverberating through your skull. You could make out its face now, or rather, the mask that covered its face. It was blue, except for the two gaping black holes where the eyes should be, oozing some sort of black liquid.

“ What the hell...” You trailed off, uncertain of whether to run or observe the strange...person?

It took yet another step forward, now being an arms length away.

“ Who are you...?” You questioned, resisting the urge to reach out and touch it, to see if it was even real. It reached its hand out to touch you, and you pull away. It growls and steps forward, grabbing your arm.

“ Stop moving.” It spoke, and your eyes widened involuntarily. 

You knew that voice.

“ Jack?” Your voice seemed to echo, and you felt yourself paralyzed. He nodded at your question, raising a hand to caress your cheek.

“ ‘M afraid I can’t say everything I want to,” he began, “ but I’m sorry for leaving you.”

“ What do you mean you can’t say everything? You’re coming back home right?”

The damn tears. They pooled in your eyes and you hated how weak you looked.

“ I’m sorry y/n, but I can’t.” He mumbled, brushing a loose strand of hair away from your face. He turned away from you, walking back to the trees.

“ So you’re just going to leave me here?” You called out. 

No answer. 

You watched as he disappeared from sight, the darkness swallowing him whole.

Opinions on mutavus as a power system

Forgot about mutavus. As a power system I think it's all really well thought out, and that one snippet of the professor who engineered circumstances for mutavus to appear by shooting his students in the skull with a sufficiently low caliber gun to not kill immediately was really cool. It also raises some questions about powers themselves. Why can't you trigger if you have the mutavus? does that mean powers are genetic? So on and so forth.

But when it's combined with powers existing it gets a little disappointing. Just a tad though. Because having claws and scales is cool but when some people have vector manipulation and things of that nature it quickly gets unerwhelming. I like it though, it's a nice way to keep the goons in the story a real threat without nerfing the protagonists or buffing the ever loving shit out of greg the guy with a bat and knives.

Tag 9 people you want to get to know better. I was tagged by @hayffiebird I have never been tagged in anything before so this is exiting!

Three ships:

Hayffie: My obsession with this ship comes in waves every once in a while. It has taken over my life occasionally since 2012 I believe. This ship is my main ho and my side ho. I love it! There is something about the opposite attract bit that makes me so fascinated. Haymitch and Effie also make for some great fanfic material.

Steggy: It’s good to have a healthy and wholesome ship in the mix as well. I love the badass woman x badass but sensitive man mix. They are the cutest and they also save the world. They are genuinely nice people whom deserve a good life. I love both of the characters on their own and I love them together. Agent Carter’s TV show is just peng, and it is the bane of my life that is was cancelled.

Tomshiv: My latest shipwreck on the other hand… they are not good people, they are not good for each other and you could argue that they make the world a worse place… buuuutttt… they are adorable. Tom, Mr. Darcy himself, is a sensitive asshole, and Shiv is a broken duckling looking for love while making fun of anyone who dares try. Their fighting is Shakespearian and they are thus my favourite soon to be probably divorced couple. Also, I gotta say, the acting is just 👌🏼👌🏼

First ever ship:

Probably gotta say Hayffie here too. I had no idea about fanfics, fandom or Tumblr before that. I remember beeing like 12 years old and spending my entire family trip to France reading fics. As a child that didn’t find much interesse in reading, this was a huge change. Gotta say, I think it improved my English skulle as well.

Last song: Gooey by Glass Animals is a vibe. I realy enjoy listening to the entire album. It just flows, you know.

Last movie: I can barely remember the last movie I watched. I have just been watching series lately. Succession and Barry has got me hooked. I feel like it might have been The Day After Tomorrow though.

Currently reading: War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

Currently watching: well well well, here’s the big one. SUCCESSION! And I can’t wait for the last two episodes to drop. To anyone considering watching it, I say go for it! It will have a proper ending and it is more about 3(4) sassy siblings and their cousin Greg, than it is about the logistics of running a Fortune 500 to the ground. Honestly, it’s such a great show. The acting, the filming, the writing and the characters are just superb. Powerful people acting like 5 year olds is just the best.

I am also watching the last season of Barry, another show that is really referring to watch. It is peak. I am also really happy that they are ending these great shows become the go stale, or before they are cancelled without a proper ending *cough* Westworld *cough* 1899.

Currently consuming: In about 5 min it will be a taco. 👌🏼

Currently craving: Fooood… I just got home from work and I am starving! Also, more Succession!

I'm watching Succession for the first time (taking breaks tho because I can only handle so much rich white nonsense), and here's what I have

Kendal: Where do I begin with this guy? He's either at an 11 or a -10, and there's no in-between. His version of love is a fucked up version where the chief operating system is based on transactions. His only true friend is Stewy, and he's a backstabbing little shit whose loyalty and affection are also based on transactions. For all his anger towards his dad, he is very much like him and will probably be another Logan Roy when he gets older.

Shiv: classic white feminism but wants to be one of the boys. She wants to be one of the boys so fucking badly. And not to be a Tom defender here (I'll get to him soon) but she takes out all her inner turmoil for not being one of the boys out on Tom regularly by not coming to his defense whenever her dad and brother fucks with him. She uses Tom as like a stand-in for the company, and when talks of her coming into the company comes into play, his usefulness wanes. She pretends she is a good person, but she's not.

Roman: a mommy kink weasel. He's exactly what's on the tin. Have you ever seen a kicked dog try to pretend he wasn't kicked but gets kicked again and again? That's Roman. All that bluff all that bullshit nonchalant and pervy attitude is a front for the same scared small child who gets kicked around a lot. The moment he's at the presence of his father all that bluff all that bullshit crumbles into dust because he's truly fucking scared. He takes all that and puts it on anyone he deems socially and physically weaker than him (yes, that means children)

Conner: god damn Conner, consistently useless every time. He knows he's useless, too. He knows he was a starter child. The one the parents test out on before actually parenting on their subsequent children. All these fickle aspirations just to make himself seem like part of his father's family, but he knows in his heart he's not, and he hates that.

Greg: a dope, idk. Truly a useful idiot. He's trying so hard to be a shit person like the Roy children, but he fails even doing that. You can say he was a shit person by hiding copies of those cruise incident documents, but like he knew he was in a den of snakes, he needed to protect himself. But a dope because he could have stayed in his grandpa's will and get a 250 million dollar inheritance had he just leave a company where there is no guarantee of a future. Just a dopey dope.

Tom: If only we can examine your weird hang-up with Greg. Just crack open that skull of his and take a look around. But seriously, him taking out all his aggressions on Greg is indicative of a larger thing with being married to Shiv and being attached to this family. The thing with Tom is that he's a status climber. He wants power, and that's why he married Shiv. Does he love her? Probably. It's hard to say. He loves that she's a Roy and her proximity to a powerful family and what that means for him. But does he truly love her as a person? It's hard to say. He loves power, and the Roy family is very powerful.

Mystery Men 4K Review

Mystery Men was just released in 4K from Kino Lorber. This is the first time the film from director Ben Stiller had been available in this format.

This film bombed at the box office upon its release despite the great cast that includes Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, William H. Macy, Paul Reubens, Lena Olin, and Hank Azaria.

I love the film noir style of this unique super heroes. I love Pee Wee Herman’s super power, then again I’m juvenile. William H Macy’s character is cool as well.

They’re not your classic heroes. They’re the other guys. The hippest cast in history has united for this hilarious and thoroughly original misadventure! When Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear), Champion City’s legendary superhero, falls into the hands of the evil madman Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush) and his disco-dancing henchmen, there’s suddenly a chance for the Mystery Men to show what they can do. I know it’s been said a million times before but Tom taking the fall for Greg in Boar on the Floor really is wild. Aside from the cut stuff about the extent of Tom’s real punishment for throwing the game it’s just like...the only thing Tom gets out of that is Greg and he doesn’t even cash that chip in. He doesn’t do it to get Greg on side or leverage it to keep Greg on side and it weakens his position with every person in the room including his father in law. Fuck, it even weakens his position with Greg. 

Like I’ve seen people say that Succession is a show that works best when you believe the characters love each other, and I’ve seen it said that Succession works best when you ask yourself what love means when it’s so battered by ulterior motive, but I can’t find the ulterior motive in Tom going down in Boar on the Floor. And it just boggles my mind that this happens in one of the most high stakes scenes in the entire show. It’s not a small sacrifice, it’s a full on pig roast and Tom says yes just because Greg says please. 

I keep asking myself what Tom has in his hands at the end of all this and I’m coming up with exactly one answer.

Nope is such a fantastic story about the way things regress to their most primal forms in a catastrophe.

There is a UFO in the valley (except they don’t call them UFOs anymore). You want to know what it’s doing and why it’s taking your horses. You want to understand it. You want to see it. You want to run from it. You want to survive at any costs.

What even is that thing? It’s a ship from a civilization unrecognisable from your own. Wrong, it’s an animal. You think maybe it’s targetting you, seeing you. But it’s just hungry, and territorial. You understand this because you’ve worked with animals your whole life, but you can’t stop a horse from bucking when a flash goes off so how are you supposed to stop this thing from eating you?

If you’re going to see the UFO that isn’t a UFO you need to find proof that you saw it. You fail to capture it on your phone so you install some high end CCTV and point it at the sky. The CCTV fails because there was a bug in frame. The CCTV fails because all electricity fails when this animal arrives. You find someone with a camera that they can hand crank but he gets eaten. You have a well with a polaroid camera pointing at the sky and if you take enough pictures at the right intervals you can string them together into a film in which the hungry, hungry animal appears right at the end. It’s in your blood. The first piece of film ever made was made this way, and it captured your ancestor, on a horse.

You like to think that you’re worldly and modern and that you escaped being whatever you might have been if you had grown up in the wild. But if your father’s skull is ruptured by a dime, or if your birthday balloons get close enough to the studio lights to burst, or if you swallow a balloon and it explodes in your stomach, all the preconcived notions about what you think you are go out the window and you become nothing more and nothing less than flesh and blood.

And sometimes, if you’re smart and lucky, you might just get to survive

Ripped to Shreds — 劇變 (Relapse Records)

劇變 (Jubian) by Ripped to Shreds

According to Ripped to Shreds, the Mandarin characters that articulate the title of this LP can be anglicized as “Jubian,” which variously translates as “upheaval” and “radical change.” On the record, the San Francisco-based band effects no radical changes in their approach to death metal. Ripped to Shreds still plays in a thrashy, old school mode, and they play it straight, enthusiastically so. But it’s impossible not to be impressed by their technical proficiency; they shred (see what they did?) very fast and very hard, with a nearly glossy chromatic flash. The players’ meticulous facility is coupled to a ruthlessly aggro sensibility: Ripped to Shreds will take your head off, and their cuts will leave very clean margins.

Check out the album art, in which the skull of Mazu, the Taiwanese sea deity, is sliced into pieces by some unidentified force — perhaps the titular conveyances from the record’s second song, “Split apart by Five Chariots.” Whatever provides that violence, the music matches it, and redoubles it. At the point of attack is Andrew Lee, guitarist, singer and principal imagination of Ripped to Shreds. The art’s imposing iconography is apt; Lee has noted that he began recording tunes — and then recruited a full band — to increase the visibility of Chinese Americans in metal. For sure, 劇變 is impossible to ignore. The intensity and musicianship of Ripped to Shreds are manifest, engines of finely calibrated and crushing power. 

There’s nothing subtle about these songs, which rage and race along with a maximalist…joy? That feels like the wrong word, but under all the volume and pummeling, there’s an exuberance. The vibe is apparent in the first four minutes of “獨孤九劍 日月神教第三節 (In Solitude – Sun Moon Holy Cult Pt 3),” the longest song on 劇變. The performance may prompt you to recall the first time you heard Nihilist’s Only Shreds Remain — the wacko speed, the maxed-out HM2 pedals. After those initial minutes, Ripped to Shreds gradually, deliberately downshift, bottoming out into a sludgy, hoarse forced march, and then a more heroic, doom-inflected crescendo. It’s a bravura metal performance. 

Lee’s intentions for Ripped to Shreds may be ideological. The project’s ethno-racial focus informs its line-up and its aesthetic. But the music itself is death metal of a traditional, concentrated form. The record is hugely entertaining, an effective synthesis of speed and spirit.
