RECAP: Beartooth at 98 Rockfest
Tumblr media
Photos and review by Amanda Iglesias
The energy that Beartooth brings to absolutely every show they play is awe-inspiring, and 98 Rockfest was no exception. I have personally been a fan of Beartooth for a long time and I can remember them playing warped tour on the Monster Stage and climbing up to main stage in the following years.

Having the opportunity to watch them play an arena show was amazing. I’d be lying if I said that I don’t miss the good ‘ol Warped days; however, I’m so incredibly proud of how much Beartooth has grown as a band and gained so much popularity. I truly hope that thousands of people went home after the show with a new favorite band if they didn’t know them already.

They started their set with “Devastation” and had the crowd throwing their fists up in the air halfway though the song. The crowd kept up their energy for the rest of the show jumping, head banging and singing along. Beartooth debuted their brand new song “Sunshine” at this show and I have to say there was no better place to perform this live for the first time than in the Sunshine state. Complimenting “Sunshine” with yellow lighting, a playful chorus, and a breakdown that had me banging my head while taking photos made this my favorite song of their set. Go listen to their new song now and see them on tour in the US through June.

“When I first heard it, from a dog trainer who knew her behavioral science, it was a stunning moment. I remember where I was standing, what block of Brooklyn’s streets. It was like holding a piece of polished obsidian in the hand, feeling its weight and irreducibility. And its fathomless blackness. Punishment is reinforcing to the punisher. Of course. It fit the science, and it also fit the hidden memories stored in a deeply buried, rusty lockbox inside me. The people who walked down the street arbitrarily compressing their dogs’ tracheas, to which the poor beasts could only submit in uncomprehending misery; the parents who slapped their crying toddlers for the crime of being tired or hungry: These were not aberrantly malevolent villains. They were not doing what they did because they thought it was right, or even because it worked very well. They were simply caught in the same feedback loop in which all behavior is made. Their spasms of delivering small torments relieved their frustration and gave the impression of momentum toward a solution. Most potently, it immediately stopped the behavior. No matter that the effect probably won’t last: the reinforcer—the silence or the cessation of the annoyance—was exquisitely timed. Now. Boy does that feel good.”

RECAP: Bad Wolves at 98 Rockfest
Photos and review by Amanda Iglesias
Tumblr media
Bad Wolves opened main stage at 98 Rockfest with an energetic performance of “I’ll be There,” the first song off of their 2nd album N.A.T.I.O.N. They flowed immediately into their hit song “Killing Me Slowly,” and as Amalie Arena was starting to fill up, the crowd was getting warmed up by clapping their hands and banging their heads to the rhythm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their set was comprised of 7 songs with a good mix of heavy and upbeat songs from all 3 albums. Bad Wolves ended their performance with their famous cover of “Zombie”, originally performed by The Cranberries, that has garnered over 300 million plays on Spotify, charted on numerous billboard music charts, and played on radio stations all over the US. Catch them on tour in the US throughout the rest of May and on a few dates in July.
