Lessons from God’s creation ~ Geese
I thought this may help others who are working in teams and learn a lesson from nature.
Bible reference ~ Ecclesiastes 4:9
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.”
In other words, when individuals work together, they can double their strength and get much more done as a team. They also reap the value of having worked in unison, thus creating harmony instead of disorder. Working as the power of one begins with the efforts of each person, as they work with another person and add value to all they do. Also look at Hebrews 10 v 24-25
A little background information to this remarkable bird.
Geese are large birds, with bills which are humped at the base and tapered toward the tip, to help in grasping the grasses upon which they feed. Also, they are equipped with webbed legs which are positioned farther forward than in swans and ducks, allowing the bird to walk readily, and to swim efficiently as well. Geese are migratory bird, capable of travelling about 1,550 miles a day. They’re robust, very faithful to one another and are quite disease resist due to their dense feather covering.
Geese have one of the best senses of direction and can return to their birth nest after a year of leaving it. These birds migrate in groups, forming a perfect ‘V’ in the sky. While travelling, they quack to motivate weary companions; the individuals in the rear replace the front of the formation when feeling tired. Geese have a greater degree of companionship. When another member of their company falls ill or becomes too exhausted to travel, they often leave the formation, along with others, to go and help, and even stay with it until it gets better.
5 Things Geese Can Teach Us About Teamwork
• Geese Fly Further Together. The iconic flying V is for more than just allowing the geese to see something other than the back of the bird in front of them. ...
• Geese Support Each Other When Times are Tough. ...
• Geese Take Turns Leading. ...
• Geese Cheer Progress. ...
• Geese are Loyal to their Purpose.
Ok now let’s look a little bit more about the lessons from Geese......
'Individual empowerment results from quality honking'
Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal, church or business endeavour. When we use these five principles in our personal, church and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members.
It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of church or business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged.
Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range.
Outcome
When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals.
Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work / Cell Group
When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.
Outcome
If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing
When a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to the point position.
Outcome
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks. We should respect and protect each other's unique arrangement of skills, capabilities, talents and resources.
Lesson 4 - The Importance of Empathy and Understanding
When a goose gets sick, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to the ground to help and protect it.
Outcome
If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times, as well as when we are strong.
Lesson 5 - The Importance of Encouragement
Geese flying in formation 'HONK' to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed.
Outcome
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups and teams where there is encouragement, production is much greater. 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking'
To conclude: The bible says in Proverbs 27:17 ‘As iron sharpens iron so a friend sharpens a friend. The question for all Christians is simple do we lovingly sharpen others or do we take offence if someone tries to help?
As Individuals but more so as Christians we ought to learn from Geese who are robust, very faithful to one another and if another of their kind either gets sick or becomes exhausted, they’ll stay to help and support.
Let’s get over ourselves, work together for God’s kingdom and really take on board biblical lessons, apply and transform not only ourselves but the world around us and make a difference.

Giving up too soon
Giving up means you will be yielding, surrendering, relinquishing, relinquishment
As a human being I’m sure that there are times when for a brief moment we may feel like giving up, yielding to what seems an impossible mountain to get over.
We are called to be conquers, Romans 8:37 tells us ‘No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us’.

Jesus loves us and calls all not some but all of us to lead!! Remember at the basic level you are called to lead YOU, and care called to be the best person you can be and not what others tell our you are.
Ok so let’s visualise this mountain of yours, what does it look like?  How do you feel when you see the mountain?  What thoughts, feelings and behaviours do you exhibit?
Ok so let’s work at reframing (meaning to think or see your mountain as something different) this mountain.  Get into a quiet place and start by visualising your mountain, its size, its height, its width, and reflect what emotions are prominent?
Then visualise our Lord laying his hand on your mountain and slowly reducing the mountain, listen to your feelings etc as the mountain is reduced, feel the joy as He reduced your mountain, He is doing it not you, that’s the difference .
Finally see the mountain as a mole hill, yes a little and possibly annoying mole hill the kind gardeners don’t like showing up in their garden. This is a great example of visualisation as most gardeners if they see a mole hill and they will take a spade and SPLAT even the mole hill will be reduced to nothing.
Let’s look at ‘The SPLAT’ story....
A man met a guru in the road. The man asked the guru - 'Which way should I go to achieve success?'
The robed, bearded sage said nothing, but he pointed to a place in the distance.
The man, thrilled by the prospect of quick and easy success, rushed in the appropriate direction. Suddenly, there came a loud 'Splat.'
Soon, the man limped back, tattered and stunned, assuming he must have misinterpreted the message. He repeated his question to the guru. 'Which way should I go to achieve success?'
The guru again pointed silently in the same direction.
The man obediently walked off once more. This time the 'splat' was deafening. When the man crawled back, he was bloody, broken, tattered, and irate.
'I asked you which way I should go to achieve success,' he screamed at the guru.
'I followed the direction you gave me, and all I got was splatted!  No more of this pointing! Talk!'
Only then did the guru speak. What he said was: 'Success is that way. Just a little past splat.'
Three scripture to help us keep going .....
Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
2 Chronicles 15:7 But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Remember the mole hill and be encouraged when you are faced with a mountain.

From TaskJesus a reminder to us all.
Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.

Lead a bold life with the Holly Spirit.
When we are full of the Holy Spirit (totally surrendered), we are filled with boldness; but when we are controlled by our “self,” we will remain normal or “balanced.”
People who lead balanced lives do not change history or make big impacts on the world around them. It is the people who step out in faith, take risks, and are bold who are remembered and who impact the world. Step out I faith and pray for someone to be healed, now that’s faith and boldness.
Be filled with the Holy Spirit and lead a bold life for Christ, for we are not ordinary people we are Christ’s children and filled with a powerful mind, not one of timidity. Go shine like a light in the cruel world.

A bit of wisdom from Proverbs
We are told elsewhere in Proverbs that wise words bring healing (see 12:18) and that the tongue contains “the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21). Here we see that a gentle answer defuses anger, wise words enhance knowledge and soothing words bring life. That’s a lot of power for a small part of the body, but the rest of Scripture and our own experience affirm the impact of words. We can wreak a lot of havoc with what we say — James compares our tongues to a spark that can start a forest fire (see James 3:5 – 6). But the opposite is also true: We can praise God and bless others with positive, encouraging, praiseworthy statements of truth.
Think of that. We can make a dramatic difference in people’s lives simply by asking God to minister to them, speaking a blessing over them, affirming their gifts, encouraging them about their God-given potential and more. We can heal past wounds, offer forgiveness and declare God’s love. Why would we be reluctant to wield that kind of power? Words of affirmation, blessing and encouragement cost us nothing, but they can accomplish great things.

The Cracked Pot Story
The author of the Cracked Pot story is unknown; yet the wisdom that it holds is displayed in our lives daily through God's working in and through us!
Have you ever felt like this pot with its crack – imperfect and ashamed? There may have been something in your life that caused you to feel "cracked." In all honesty, probably most of us have felt this way at one time or another. Yet what we neglect to realize is that God is sovereign; He created us each unique and when we depend upon Him, amazing things can happen!
Bible reference’s
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves ;”
2 Corinthians 4:7
”And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’”
2 Corinthians 12:9
The Story of the Cracked Pot………
‘An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.'I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.'
The old woman smiled, 'Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?' 'That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.'
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.'

Five steps to measure ourselves by?
Five biblical principles and thoughts that I believe we ought to examine ourselves by in order to walk closer and closer to Jesus. Before you read on I would urge you to look at these biblical verses: Lamentations 3:40, 1 Corinthians 11:28, 2 Corinthians 13:5 and particularly Galatians 6:3.
Principle 1 ~ Mirror (1 Samuel 25: 1-42)
The first person we should examine is ourselves before we look at others.
Coping with difficult people is hard ~ how do you, cope with yourself.
We see people as they are ~ but as we are!
Through a lens we see others like we like to see others.
Destination & destiny ~ people keep moving, as they believe the next move (destination or destiny) will be the final move!
If you can’t fix problems where you are ~ you can’t fix someone else’s!
What do you do if you see someone you did not want to see?
Big issue ~ if you cannot get along with you, you will not get along with others.
Examine yourself.
How well do you know you?
How much to you like/love yourself. (James 2:8)
What do you see in the mirror ~ does it reflect Christ likeness, if not what steps are you going to take to improve you?
Principle 2 ~ Pain (1 Samuel 18: 6-29)
Hurting people hurt people and are easily hurt by people.
If you are hurting on the inside you will hurt others on the outside.
If someone shakes your hand (you have a splinter in it but do not tell them) and you pull back your hand and wince the other persons reaction is to say sorry did I do something wrong ~ you unintentionally put a splinter into their soul.
Say something innocent and off they go!
Examine yourself.
Have you forgiven those who have hurt you in the past?
This is KEY ~ What is your fingerprint you leave on others?
Principle 3 ~ Hammer (2 Chronicles 10: 1-17)
Never use a hammer to swot a fly off someone’s forehead.
It’s about over reacting ~ Break this principle and you cause others to stay away.
Stay and work in your strength zone and develop your outer zones.
Always be even handed ~ don’t shoot the messenger if they bring bad news.
Maturity does not accompany age ~ age sometimes comes alone.
The hammer may win the battle but it will lose the war.
How come you are so wise ……. Because I was stupid first, therefore I have learnt.
Always go for win ~ win as you may have to leave something on the table.
Examine yourself.
How effectively do you communicate to others through the words you say, how you say (pitch & tone) them and your body language?
Do others recognise you as a person of your word, never quick to respond and consistent?
Do you know what you want out of situations putting the other person or situation first then explaining how you see things and work towards a win-win?
Principle 4 ~ Elevator (Jonah 4: 1-11)
Some people lift you up (eagles) ~ some people bring you down (leaners).
People who lift you up ~ you love to be around them, they give you strength, joy, happiness etc.
Down people only have one bottom the BASEMENT, leaners are down people.
Q. Are you a lifter or a leaner? Do your friends want to be around you or do they put up with you?
People that lean never succeed.
How do you tell a lifter from a leaner?
Lifters influence and add to your energy
Major lifters multiply others
Leaners deplete and subtract your energy
Major leaner divide others and is often done knowingly
Start to recognise the difference between lifters and leaners and move towards the lifters as they will provide the air beneath your wings.
Examine yourself.
How do others see you as a lifter or a leaner?
How do you deal with others who are leaners?
Principle 5 ~ Exchange (1 Samuel 25: 18-35)
Instead of putting people in their place put yourself in their place.
Get into their shoes for awhile and see their perspective before you make a comment.
Don’t lead your life by assumptions, walk slowly understand yourself and others.
The greatest gift you can give is to LISTEN to others.
Do what is right not wrong, learn and exchange incorrect behaviour for positive behaviour.
Examine yourself.
Do you put yourself first or listen to others?
Are you aware of how you come across to others?
Do show behavioural flexibility?
List action points from the five principles, which you will work on over the next three months.

Good Friday
For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the history of the world. Ever since Jesus died and was raised, Christians have proclaimed the cross and resurrection of Jesus to be the decisive turning point for all creation. Paul considered it to be “of first importance” that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life on the third day, all in accordance with what God had promised all along in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3).
On Good Friday we remember the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10). It is followed by Easter, the glorious celebration of the day Jesus was raised from the dead, heralding his victory over sin and death and pointing ahead to a future resurrection for all who are united to him by faith (Romans 6:5). God is Love Jesus is Love and without Jesus we cannot be born again and live with Him for Eternity. Friendship is better than religion. Jesus calls us friends when we choose Him and want to live for Him. Faith Love and Hope and the greatest of these is Love.

Don’t Judge Life By One Difficult Season
Tumblr media
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said, “no – it was covered with green buds and full of promise”. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfilment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfilment of your fall.
Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don’t judge life by one difficult season. Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come sometime or later.
From the bible we learn from Numbers 13 & 14 about Joshua and Caleb who stood out from the rest and told a different view point, don’t let the opinions of many lead you down the wrong path, stay calm and seek God.
