I actually rather like the simplicity of this piece already - if only I could just leave it like this 😂
A larger piece, really enjoying the colder, desaturated colours.

May I present my most recent taxidermy sculpture ~ Aquinairia. Dove, duck, rooster and sea bass components over a sculpted clay armature on a vintage metal stand with 24K gold leaf and Austrian crystals.
I would like to dedicate this piece to my mother in gratitude and acknowledgment of the influence she has had on my artistic journey. In addition to being an avid taxidermy collector she was an accomplished and prolific artist in her day. She supported our family as a graphic designer and book illustrator but somehow still carved out time for her passion; making sculpture. Her favorite theme was fanciful beasts. Among her many works were several ceramic renditions of a hippocampus (a creature from Greek mythology with the upper body of a horse and the tail of a fish) The last photo in this post is my favorite one that she made. Its graceful presence is etched into my brain, so much so that I used its pose as my starting point when I began work on Aquinairia. The other main element of Aquinairia is a nod to Mom as well ~ I wanted this piece to evoke the feeling of something else she has a penchant for – carousel horses. I love all of the old carousel animals. I’m drawn to them for the fluid lines that make them look like they’re floating effortlessly through the air. Some of you might be old enough to remember that hippocampi were often included alongside regular horses on the carousels of yesteryear. If you do, then you will also remember thinking they were clearly the superior steed when given the choice of which equine to ride ;)
Aquinairia is available exclusively through Lovetts Gallery in Tulsa. Interested parties can contact the gallery directly. Alternately, all works I currently have available can be viewed by visiting my website WWW.SARINA-BREWER.COM

"Revolution Is Female" by Rasha Eleyan, 2024
Series: Revolution Is Female
Arty-Fact: “My series Revolution Is Female serves as a way to deal with unexpected change – and trying to revolt against rules that are beyond my control.
“The series features still life art that is loaded with symbolism and is undeniably from a female perspective. It touches on women's rights and men’s authority, a demanding art market and trying to make sense of a world gone astray.” ~ Rasha Eleyan

Such a round birb!
I have overworked the paper, worked the wrong way round (always go dark to light with pastels....) and added far too many layers already, and I am loving it :) .
