loses said love after a confrontation and act of violence; solidifying the end of their relationship and permanently altering their feelings towards things like love

so I read The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes at least a year ago and I just saw the movie today. And I have a crazy theory that I want to share because I haven't seen anyone else talk about it. My immediate first thought when I finished the book and at the end of the movie was wait...Lucy Gray almost definitely survived and probably made it to District 13. What if she is President Coin? She's the same age as Snow so she'd 100% still be alive when Katniss goes to the Hunger Games. Also Snow and Coin HATE each other and Coin was super desperate to take Snow down, I always kinda thought it was weird in Mockingjay how it was almost like they knew each other because they seemed to have such personal vendettas against each other, the way they hated each other felt a little too personal. And towards the end of Mockingjay, after the rebels take the president's mansion, Katniss finds Snow in the rose greenhouse and he tells her not to trust Coin and that Coin won't hesitate to betray her. And then in district 13 everything is gray, everyone wears gray and there is no singing and dancing, which Katniss points out and thinks is super odd.

Idk I also just really like the idea that the last thing Lucy Gray told Snow was that she was going to get Katniss and (if she is Coin) she DOES get Katniss when she rescues her from the arena in Catching Fire. Also remember Snow died because he was laughing so hard he choked on his blood after Katniss killed Coin instead of executing him (also the fact that she wanted to have him executed in from everybody, just like the hanging tree!!!), I always thought it was so bizarre because why was it that funny to him? It makes sense if she was Lucy Gray. When Katniss killed her instead, Snow won- HE convinced Katniss to do it, HE killed Coin (and he convinced someone who was definitely somehow connected to the Covey, after she tried killing him in the woods outside 12 just like how his father died!!!!!). He finally won the battle between him and Lucy Gray. No wonder he laughed so much. Snow lands on top.

I rest my case.

For the ace/yuu/malleus love triangle theory imagine how jealous ace will feel after finding out that yuu danced with malleus and DEUCE lmao

he wasn't allowed to be in the masquerade event because it would have literally killed him. just absolutely put him in the ground. first Malleus and Yuu essentially just go on a date in a scenic campus wearing fancy clothes. okay, nothing he can compete with, but nothing out of the norm, either. then, there's a crisis and some weirdo with a bowl-cut threatens to kill you all. still not totally out of the ordinary, but it somehow ties into Malleus hyper-specific personal trauma which is a little unfair but not that weird considering how stuff tends to go down in this game. then, it somehow devolves into a party again and Malleus not only dances with Yuu, but also performs an entire pre-rehearsed song with romantic subtext before pulling you into a walz, which he knows how to do because he's literally a prince. how is Ace, a chronic Normal Dude, supposed to compete with that. what is he supposed to do. the Deuce thing almost seems like a blessing in disguise because at least you're still, like, touching other guys. he wouldn't be if he was in your situation but he's glad that you are.

Anyway yesterday I went to the movie with my friends and one of them had never read the book nor knew the plot of the movie, but she knew who Snow is... But she cracks me up with her comments (we were alone in the cinema).

One of the best: "How can I enjoy the plot if everytime he is on screen I want sit on his face?"

So yeah, I knew she would have loved Snow... She is my best friend, after all... We can not remember for a single moment who Coriolanus Snow is, let alone have the braincell to mind his red flags...

(And anyway before someone else come to us because "you only like the pretty Tom" please remember that I tell her about Snow's thoughts and yes, everytime he thinked about something unhinged it shows and my friend looked at me every. Single. Time. Making a Face™ and we actually loved Snow more for this).
