Requested by anonymous for Hey hey! Can I request some Zuko (atla) headcanons (gn s/o, preferably).His usually quiet and peaceful s/o is having a bad day and needs to blow off steam, and then get cuddles from himUp to you if it takes place before or after he's Firelord Tysm in advance ♥️

Zuko tries not to complain so much about his duties as Firelord.

He's only just become an adult, but he's already facing the duties a much older ruler would have been trained for.

But he bears it all, because he has the responsibility, but also the privilege of helping form a better world.

And he has you by his side!

Although it's clear today that you are not in such a great mood.

He can practically sense the tension, noticing the way you pull your hands into the sleeves of your robes to conceal your clenched fists.

The gritting of your teeth

In between audiences with generals and representatives, he looks at you.

"Meet me in the private courtyard when we're free."

Your days aren't exactly stress-free, even as the consort of the Firelord. You need to help him with his work and, traditionally, keep the spiritual and physical wellbeing of the Royal Household all on the up-and-up.

Which means conducting traditional ceremonies with the Fire Sages, organizing the guard rotation for the palace, and working with officials in the Fire Nation capital to improve the lives of citizens.

And while you and Zuko definitely make time to spend with each other, restructuring an entire society that has spent the last one hundred years as the aggressors in a global war is certainly nowhere near a stress-free endeavor.

It's just a bad day today.

You're a little surprised at Zuko's words - he's not the greatest at being spontaneous.

But you still meet him in the private courtyard, and it's an interesting sign that he's shirtless.

You smirk. "So, am I going to be watching you train, like I did back when you were training Aang?"

Zuko suddenly looks surprised. "You watched that?"

You grin. "Oh, you think I fell for your sparkling personality?"

He laughs at the teasing before pointing to the training dummies he has set up. "Today, you're going to be training with me."

He blushes. "I just thought... well, nothing really helps me get rid of stress more than training, and then we could blow off steam, and..."

You chuckle. "And then we can take a bath and cuddle?"

He nods. "Sure. All night, if you want."

He takes you through some firebending martial art forms, which actually are surprisingly tough to learn, but feel really good when you start to get it right.

Zuko teaches you how to breathe properly, which really helps you feel so more energized and calm, even as you train.

Finally, after an hour or so of punches and breathing (which doesn't sound particularly fun, but Zuko actually does make it pretty fun to learn)

It helps to get out that aggression you had, and even more exciting is the promise of getting to take a bath and cuddle with him after.

After a beautiful luxurious bath with scented soaps and perfumed oils, you get to see Zuko in his loose robe and pants he wears for lounging around. He smiles as you lunge at him and tackle him onto a nest of cushions and bury your head in his chest to smell the clean scent of soap.

"I'm sorry I've been so out of it today." you whisper.

Zuko chuckles. "You do remember what I was like back during the war, right? Every day was a bad day. It's normal to feel stress, and... I want you to be able to count on me to help get you through it."

You give him a gentle kiss. "I love you, Zuko."

"I love you too."

Genuinely hate how people routinely excuse salems actions in The Lost Fable tbh. Specifically regarding their kids.

Like, I'm sorry, but Salem NEVER cared about them. They were collateral damage. She used her own daughters silhouettes to taunt Oz, and she was the one who attacked first.

"Those kids would've lived if Oz hadn't tried sneaking them out!" So we're agreeing that Salem was an active danger to both Oz and their daughters? She shot first, and Oz HAD to retaliate to protect them, and unfortunately failed.

And she used their kids silhouettes to TAUNT Oz and Oscar. There's never anything that so much as IMPLIES Salem grieved for their children. Even IF she grieved and moved on, no SANE mother uses her dead children to taunt her ex. And Salem isn't the type to just... move on; that isn't in her character. The only answer is that she NEVER grieved nor cared.

Meanwhile it's full on said that Oz grieved, for several LIVES, while drowning himself in alcohol in an attempt to forget what happened, possibly killing himself several times via alcohol poisoning. Any good father would react badly to losing his children in a horrible accident like that.

Also did we just... forget that Salem caused EVERYTHING in the show?? She indirectly killed Pyrrha, Penny, destroyed Beacon, destroyed Atlas, wrecked Haven, and has killed COUNTLESS innocent people including actual CHILDREN, regardless of if they were in the Academies or not. She tortured and manipulated Cinder when Cinder disobeyed her, tried the same with Emerald when she defected, tried killing hazel when he did the same. Not only that but she experimented on innocent SEWs, turning them into monsters. Plus she tortured an actual 15 year old. And that's not even getting into the sheer amount of manipulation that goes into Tyrian.

And what has Oz done?

Uh... leave out that Salem was immortal to a bunch of kids, gave them an out and told them the war was dangerous, and blamed himself for the Fall of Beacon and Pyrrhas death. The only thing that's pretty bad was the fact he lied to his inner circle, but even then just about one thing.

He could've taken Ravens shape shifting magic at any time. Oz is an immortal wizard, he could've absolutely tracked her down and taken back his magic. But he didn't, as a show of TRUST, despite the fact that she'd use her magic to hurt people. Oz left a metaphorical door open for her if Raven ever wanted to return.

If this were Salem? If he were anything like her?

Raven would be DEAD.

But Oz is actually a good person so... she's not.

The Academies were made to give people the tools and resources to protect themselves from Grimm, while also effectively helping push Salem back. People going into the Academies KNOW what they're signing up for. The Grimm aren't just gonna sit back, they're ALWAYS going to inevitably attack. It's better if people actually, yknow, know how to fight and protect others. And the youngest people normally go into them is 17 years old. And they have training missions, so if they want to back out, they can at ANY time.

Anyways Salem fucking sucks, Oz is nothing like her, and yall need to quit sucking her metaphorical dick. She's a good character, very interesting and complex, but she's genuinely horrible. If you still agree with Salem after knowing what she's done... please don't have kids.

atla live action thoughts: episode 2

SPOILERS AHEAD

things i liked:

love, love, love the depth they're adding to suki here. it feels as though they've drawn on the bits we get from the original and deepened it - it makes total sense that suki would feel stifled after having been trapped on kyoshi her whole life, and it adds more weight to her being inspired by sokka to leave kyoshi and go to ba sing se in the future

really enjoyed maria zhang's performance as suki. she brings the fierce strength, but there's also a softness and vulnerability to how she plays the character that's really nice to see

as much as i love suki kicking the sexism out of sokka, toning down the overt misogyny was a good idea, especially since it pretty much disappears from sokka's arc after this episode. i think they did a good job addressing the spirit of the original in having sokka try and show off to suki only to be severely humbled and still choosing to better himself by going back to learn from her

aang and katara laughing at sokka's horrendous flirting... biblically accurate book 1 trio dynamic

i wasn't sold on iroh in the first episode but paul sun-hyung lee 100% won me over here. the scene where he tries to convince zuko to eat quailpole egg felt right out of the cartoon lmao. i do like that this iroh seems to be trying to steer zuko to the right path earlier and more obviously

thank GOD aang still seems to be affected by what happened at the southern air temple. i love the scene where he was hesitant to train because the only person he'd ever trained with was gyatso. going from discovering genocide to riding the unagi was always a major tonal whiplash in the cartoon and it barely worked in animation so i'm glad they're giving aang's trauma the weight and respect it deserves in live action

the action and bending continue to impress, as do the visuals and cinematography. the show is just so visually beautiful to watch and it feels like a fantasy world take notes percy jackson

things i disliked/am conflicted about:

don't really get why we're delving into kyoshi so deeply here. it's not a bad change but neither do i see the need for it when we could've spent the time on other things. if anything, the avatar who should be more fleshed out at this point in the story is roku

katara receiving the waterbending scroll from gran-gran instead of stealing it... i get it, but i also don't love it. it really spoke to katara's desperation and will to become a waterbender that she stole from pirates just to get a chance to learn, and it also highlights the tragedy of what happened to the southern water tribe benders that she had not a shred of her culture or heritage left to guide her

i don't think sukka had to be pushed so heavily in this episode lmao. once or twice was fine, but it was starting to get a little cringe by the end. also not a fan of them kissing at this stage, especially if they're keeping the yue/sokka romance. maria and ian do have pretty good chemistry though

why are we going to the north pole because aang had a vision of them being in trouble?? wasn't needing to learn waterbending enough?? i don't mind them foreshadowing the ending battle but aang needing to learn the elements is the driving force of the show and it doesn't feel like we're getting that here

why is zhao... like that. there is no WAY animated zhao would've ever proposed working with zuko. this zhao feels a lot more like a long feng or a littlefinger than the reckless, hot-headed original who was meant to be a foil to zuko. the whole reason for introducing zhao is to show us that zuko is not the worst of the fire nation by a long shot, but between the two in the live action zuko still feels like the more unlikeable one and that's worrying. i hope we're still getting the zuko v zhao agni kai bc i have no idea where this storyline is heading

aang can only talk to the past avatars in the avatar's shrine? i can foresee this causing issues later on in book 2 and 3, if they happen

i'm guessing the zuko/katara "fight" here is supposed to replace the "i'll save you with the pirates" (RIP you were always gonna be too iconic for netflix) but it just feels out of place. what do we really get from this scene that we didn't know before? in the original scene, this is the moment we see katara master a new waterbending move AND use it in a fight but she's already bending earlier in the episode so it doesn't have the same effect. zuko seeming ready to burn katara while she's cowering and defeated also doesn't feel like something zuko would do. the dude spared zhao, of all people.

Yang: (Grinds her teeth) A school that kicks you out because you lose one time isn't fit to be a school at all...

Ruby: Here. Take our room passes. You can stay at our dorm tonight.

Flynt: Wait, but what about you?

Ruby: We'll be back.

Yang: We just gotta go file a complaint with the headmaster...

Winter: Sir, we're under attack!

Yang: (Slugs Atlas student) WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR HEADMASTER?!

Ironwood: (Steps out) Enough! Surrender now, and you won't be punished as harshly as you should.

Yang: Oh, are you the headmaster of Atlas Academy? (Cracks knuckles) I heard a rumor that anyone who loses one time has to be expelled from here.

Yang: If that's the case, then I'll expel you myself!

Marrow: Sh-She came here to pick a fight with the general?!

Elm: She's crazy!

Vine: This won't end well for her.

Yang: I might be just a student myself, but even I know that a one-loss-expulsion rule is the dumbest thing anyone's ever thought of. And that means I gotta set an example!

Ironwood: Bree!

Harriet: Sir!

Ironwood: Get rid of her.

Harriet: Sir!

Yang: What? Too chicken to fight me yourself, tin man? (Charges) Stop hiding behind your lackeys and fight me!

Harriet: You're not getting near the general! (Zooms past Yang, Throws backfist)

Yang: (Ducks, Swings an uppercut)

Harriet: (Steps back) Would you get lost?!

Yang: (Grabs Harriet) No, YOU GET LOST! (Slugs Harriet, Rockets her into the ceiling) My fight isn't with you! It's with Iron-Wuss!

Ironwood: Hmph. Impressive. Fine. Fight me.

Yang: (Swings with a right cross)

Ironwood: (Catches it with one hand, Catches the other fist)

Yang: (Swings with both legs, Stomps left side and right thigh)

Ironwood: (Drops Yang's hands, Swings hook)

Yang: (Uppercuts, Launches prosthetic)

Ironwood: (Follows the hand, Thinking) Dammit! She caught me off guard!

Winter: (Stops with glyph) ENOUGH!

- Adam talks to Shiro while Shiro pilots the Atlas, Adam says some words that feel like a goodbye and Shiro calls out to him. He thinks Adam is dead (Adam was able to evacuate his plane before it crashed with the Galra)

- Upon hearing that the Galra are coming, Shiro and Adam argue over Adam being involved

- Once the quartet of Matt, Adam, Shiro, and Keith are reunited Matt and Keith hound Shiro like annoying brothers for leaving Adam and Keith behind

- Adam saying the words "we're going to get you to the medbay and once you're all healed up we're going to have a sparring match where I throw you around like a rag doll" / "don't ever worry me like that again. I don't know if I can ever take a loss like that again"

Turns out there's barely enough oxygen for even a new born let alone a grown adult (bonus if Adam's ship was hit with quintessence); Shiro refuses to leaves Adam's side while he's in the healing pod

-Adam somehow being used to help power the Galras main ship that attacked earth like some Alteans were

-They never confessed their feelings so when Shiro is determined to go on Kerberos Adam just sits with his feelings and waits; both thinking they've missed their chance with the other (cue Matt, Keith and Pidge trying to get them together when they reunite)

-Soulmate/soul marks AU where Shiro and Adam do not meet until Shiro comes back from space

Facing facts.

(wait... No. No no no no no nonononononononononononono. NO. I thought I was done with Lancaster ideas! Welp I know what I got to do)

Scene: after the paper pleasers demise. (Apologies for the absence of little I don't know their characterization)

"WHAT ABOUT YOU?! ITS ALL ABOUT YOU!" Jaunes felt the last words he never wanted to leave his lips as he stared into Ruby's eyes as she scowled with tears begining to run down her cheeks as jaunes eyes widen as he was about to say something before ruby was enveloped in rose petals. As jaune felt a pit in his stomach. He didn't notice yang yelling something as she ran off towards Ruby's direction as things went quiet with only one thought running through his head.

"what did I just do".

"I.. I'm going after her." Jaunes said as Weiss looked at him before nodding as jaune reached out. "Juniper. Let's get moving" jaune called out as juniper ran towards him as he caught her and hopped on as the two set off leaving Blake and Weiss as the two soon went after yang.

"Ruby! Ruby where are you!" Jaunes called out as juniper continued running in the direction he saw ruby go in before he noticed rose petals laying on the ground as he and juniper stopped with jaune hoping down before gently picking up a rose petal as he brought it juniper who sniffed before perking its head up as jaune hopped back on with the two continuing to run after the rose reaper.

With said reaper she found herself in a forest as she was walking through it with her slowing down until finally stopping as she dropped to the earth as she felt so low. Her mind wondering, why? Why did everything go so WRONG?! They had both relics, they evacuated, EVERYONE! so why did it all go WRONG!

She began punching the ground as she felt tears streaming down as she could feel the hard ground against her knuckles as she continued to beat and beat into it. Eventually after some time she looked up only to no indentation. Only her bloodied knuckles as Ruby soon curled up as she just wanted to vanish. To just stop being HERE. To stop getting hurt-

"RUBY! WHERE ARE YOU?!" Jaunes voice rang out as Ruby's mind went quiet as she got up her eyes red and puffy as tear strains ran down her cheeks.

"RUBY! ANSWER ME PLEASE! I just wanna talk!" Jaunes voice called out again with ruby gulping softly as she got up. She had to go-

"RUBY! Please I know you can hear me! I'm just.. I know your hurting and I want to help!" Jaunes voice interrupted her thoughts again as Ruby too a deep breath.

"GO AWAY. YOU SAID WHAT YOU WANTED TO SAY!" Ruby's Shakey voice proclaimed as we see jaune and juniper stopped with jaune peering into the forest the voice came from as he hopped of juniper and began walking towards it. "Ruby. What I said.. I didn't want to say it, especially not to you." Jaunes spoke as he began seeing a figure.

"you didn't want to say it? That doesn't change the fact you did. and you meant it." Ruby retorted as jaune winced as he knew he was asking for that.

"I... Ok maybe I did mean it, I said what I said but it was uncalled for, especially now of all times. Ruby, we're friends and right now you need your friends especially your team." Jaunes countered as the figure became more clear with the terrain slowly shifting to a bridge as jaune and ruby stood on opposite pillars as Ruby looked at him her red eyes peering into him as she clutched her shoulders.

"go away jaune.. I.. I don't want to hear from you right now. Not from you or my team." Ruby turned as she spoke with jaune taking a step onto the bridge as it was rickety.

"ruby.. even if you don't want to hear this I know you need help. After everything, beacon, Pyrrha, haven, the train to get to bullhead, atlas... Penny... You need people to talk to. You need your friends." Jaune spoke as he continued walking the bridge as it creaked with ruby turning slightly as she gazed at him.

"ruby.. despite everything.. anything that could or will happen. I still will always care for you.. your a dorky.. nerdy.. incredible and talented person who jumps into everything ready for the next adventure. Your just as much of a hero as you are a dork... Your my best friend ruby rose." Jaune continued as he soon stopped at another stone pillar that segmented the two bridges with ruby turning completely and looking at him. As she saw the bridge infront but hers was broken.

She took a deep breath. "But... What if I just.. can't anymore. What If I'm just so tired of everything and I want it all to just.. stop." Ruby questioned as jaune rubbed the back of his neck as he chuckled nervously.

"Thats.. that's probably the most human thing about this situation ruby.. it's natural your getting tired of all this. Especially in your occupation.. kinda hard not to start cracking under the immense pressure.." jaune answer as Ruby smiled softly as she took a step with a plank of the bridge appearing just under her foot as she looked at jaune.

"so.. even if it doesn't fix everything immediately it's still important to be able to be honest with the people you hold close. Otherwise that problems only going to devour you." Jaune retorted as another plank appeared as Ruby took another step.

"ok.. so if I do talk about it, that doesn't mean anything though, I said really bad stuff to my team. I hurt them. I insulted them. I doubt they'll listen to anything I'd say" ruby spoke again as jaune sighed softly.

"ruby. What you said was a tad hurtful but that doesn't stop your team, especially your sister, from caring about you and seeing that your hurting, yang, Weiss and Blake are looking for you right now. Their your team. They'll listen because they know you better than anyone else." Jaune said as once again another plank with ruby taking another step as she was about halfway from the pilar.

Ruby then went quiet as she stared at jaune with him looking nervous. "W-what? Is there something I'm missing? M-maybe I should probably already apo-" "jaune.. do you.. really mean all of this?" Ruby interrupted jaune with a question as jaune looked at her.

"ruby.. you'd know if I didn't me-" "I want to hear you, say it." Ruby interrupted him again as jaune looked at her before sighing. "Ruby. I mean every word that I've said to you with nothing but absolute honesty" jaune answered as Ruby smiled as two more planks appeared as Ruby walked across leaving only one more step.

"ok.. one last thing. How do you exactly.. feel about us after... everything." Ruby asked as she looked at jaune as jaune felt as if he knew what this was about.

"ruby... Are you sure you wanna be progressing us, right now?" Jaune questioned as Ruby looked at him. "Jaune up to this point of this conversation you have done nothing but make up to me and quite frankly butter me up." Ruby spoke as she scratched the side of her cheek as she blushes a little bit with jaune blushing aswell.

"..gods I can't believe I'm in the body of a grown man acting a hormonal teenager still.. ruby ill be honest. It's only now that we met back in realizing.. I'm very much into you. But a this point dating is gonna be put back a little due to one, my age, and two the ever looming war." Jaune spoke bluntly as Ruby just smiled. "I'm ok with waiting, besides I'm finally 19 remember. It's not like your an adult dating a kid. But regardless of that.." ruby spoke as one last plank appeared as she took one last step until she was on the pilar as her jaune hugged.

"it's good to see you alright ruby." Jaune spoke with ruby simply chuckling as we close out with the scenery returning to normal as yang, Blake, and Weiss ran into the forest before seeing the two hugging as yang simply looked at Ruby smiling softly.

Feeling Joan start to sob next to her broke Pyrrha out of her own worries about fans or even the looming threat of the Schnee women shattering Joan's innocence. For Joan, Pyrrha would move heaven and earth... no she would walk through the fiery gates of hell... no she would walk naked through Forever Fall covered in red sap!

Pyrrha: (Whispering) Joan, sweetie I need you to be brave, okay. I'm going to get us out of this. Can you do that for me?

Joan: (Whispering/Sobbing) Okay. How?

Pyrrha: (Whispering) I'm going to stop the car with my semblance and then take that little bitch hostage. It's going to be scary, but I need you to be brave.

Joan nods, and sniffles, which makes Pyrrha give Joan a light squeeze, before turning her full attention on the white haired teen seated across from her, and Joan.

Pyrrha: Whitley was it?

Whitley: Please don't. I heard you. You do understand I'm like two feet away, and you really did whisper that well.

Pyrrha: Well if you know what I'm planning to do then you know I am capable of doing it!

Whitley: Just please don't. Enjoy the car ride. I can promise you, you'll have other chances to escape.

Pyrrha: Huh?

Whitley: What you thought this was the end of it? Yes I tricked you into the car, and yes I'm trying to civilly not have an altercation, but we still have to move you from the car to the air-shuttle. There's a chance right there... which I would like to say wouldn't wreck a perfectly good vehicle, or endanger civilians needlessly.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Whitley: If you choose to ignore that possibility , there is also the NEED to wait on my mother, Winter and Weiss to show up. That's a great opportunity, getting away while people are tired and bored.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Whitley: There is also the flight back to Atlas. You and Ms Arc are Huntresses-in-training... which means you can easily leap out and use a landing strategy at the beginning of the flight.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Whitley: The jumping out of the air-shuttle is the most dramatic, but it would be the last real chance to escape. Once we're at cruising altitude, or reach Atlas... chances are pretty slim there.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Joan: (Sniffles) Which point would you recommend?

Whitley: I would suggest when we reach the airport and have to move you from the car to the air-shuttle.

Joan: (Sniffles) I can see it. Limited personnel large open area monitored and viewed area... access to the airport terminal to facilitate vanishing into the crowd.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Whitley: Exactly, and to be honest it would be the most safe and civil location. No civilians that could be caught in an accident if this car was to suddenly stop in the middle of the street.

Joan: (Sniffles) And we wouldn't risk others by jumping out into oncoming traffic.

Pyrrha: (Blinks)

Whitley: Exactly. Would you like a tissue? (Offers a box of tissues to Joan)

Joan: (Takes one) Thank you.

Whitley: You're welcome. We should be only another twenty minutes until we reach the airport... would either of you like some water? Maybe some fruit juice?

Joan: I'll have...

Pyrrha: He's a Schnee! He's the enemy Joan! (Lunges for Whitley) Where getting out of here now... URK!

Pyrrha, collapses to floor of the car twitching. As Whitley turns off his taser.

Joan: Pyrrha!

Whitley: I did politely ask her not to. (Sighs) Well this complicates things. Do you think you would by chance be able to carry her during your escape attempt?

Joan: I could try? How long will she be out?

Whitley: Ten minutes, give or take... though when she wakes up she will have some trouble coordinating her limbs.

Joan: Umm... just a thought do you think there might possibly be a forgotten luggage cart near where we will be transferred from the car to the air-shuttle?

Whitley: It's possible. What are you thinking, putting her into a cart and making a dash for the main terminal?

Joan: Considering it.

Whitley: It has it's merits.

Joan: As long as I don't get one with a wonky wheel... but I always get the one with the wonky wheel.

Whitley: Yes that could be a complication. Would you like more time to consider your options? I can ask Klein to take a detour... you know how unreliable traffic reports are.

Joan: That would be lovely. Thank you. May I still have a water?

Whitley: Certainly.

(Sorry... I just couldn't resist Whitley being overly civil and openly discussing escape options with Pyrrha and Joan... and YES Pyrrha could have easily stopped the car and used it to open a can-o-whoop-ass on Whitley and Klein... I think is a little more entertaining/ridiculous.)

Oh Stars, where do I begin?

The server of the competition is full of so many creators, many of whom I have never met or known of their AUs before(I'm still quite new to the fandom), and it's been great engaging with all of them!

I can't list every single AU I wanna learn more about, there's too many!

I'm very intrigued by Aberration by probablynotarutabega whom I'm going up against in the coming bracket, and I literally spent some time today reading what they have available so I could get to know it better! I hope we're at least able to team up!

There's also the Revelations Timeline AU by idk im just here now who has a really cool insight into how the Krang and the magic system works in their AU! I'd like to say we've become friends over this little time

Of course I have to talk up some of my friends AUs!

Minecraft Isekaid by songdrop (who has teamed up with Mitosis by Varian_dislikes_cheese) is a really cool AU about the rise boys getting stuck in Minecraft but as they explore things are not quite how they know. They're incredibly talented at art and storytelling and have so many ideas it's absolutely insane!

There's also the Soulmates(Evil) AU by Evan that's heavy Mikey angst and it's wonderful to see the other characters beating up MeatSweats

Oh dear this is gonna be long isn't it ehe. There's just too many to count!

The Employees is done by multiple folks and follows a collective of OCs that work for Senior Hueso

Minor Interference by bambiraptorx is on my To Read list where the turtles accept Draxum's offer of training with him

As for ones that are not in the competition I have many suggestions:

Clean up Crew also by songdrop, a small fic that's part of his like, 6 AUs in one universe the guy's an idea machine!

I discovered A Mirror's Reflection by ratsistryingtheirbest here on Tumblr as just a "what if" post and I may or may not have sort of dared them into making it. And it's really good! A rise Future AU where Leo, Mikey, and CJ are sent to another reality post-apocalypse where their brothers survived. And won the war.

The Nexus Heir by ItzCoffee is a fun AU where Leo gets manipulated into Big Mama's care

I'm not particularly one for fics that have romance/shipping or the Next Generation trope, but Little Warrior by NovelistServant is a proud exception for me. This is an AU where Future Raph gets sent back in time with a baby CJ and things sure do happen. Prepare to cry, prepare to laugh, prepare to cry again but happy this time. I've read it twice

A Tale of Spirits by unorthodoxx recently updated and I'm so excited with where the story is going. You like turtles? You like ATLA? You're gonna like this one

And last but certainly not least, I'd be remiss if I didn't shameless plug my own AU: Remember Forever. I've written plenty of stories before but this is my first fanfiction and it's the longest project I've had so far. It's a post-season 2 pre-movie rise AU where Mikey discovers an alien(that is definitely not my self-insert) and shenanigans ensue. You can of course learn more at my masterpost which is pinned on my blog and by giving it a read! I'm trying my best to write some fluff while also acknowledging that these characters have Gone Through Things.

zuko my beloved my skrunkly my sweet <3 headcanons for you as a treat <3

when Zuko snorts, a lil puff of smoke comes out his nose. I know it to be true. Iroh told me.

He has a rly sweet breathy laugh that sometimes goes silent prematurely. very giggle prone and he pretends to hate it, but if he actually did he would barbecue everybody so. checkmate.

This one might be a hot take but I feel like he might actually be great at pretending something doesn't tickle if it's one sensation in one place. I'm choosing this hill because I think it makes things so much funnier if the gaang is trying to catch him off-guard and can't. and he knows. and he's smug.

but, flipside to this coin, he's like a jumpy cat. if you do catch him off guard he will launch directly into the stratosphere and squeak. there's nothing he can do to recover.

if zuko knows you're going to tickle him he will giggle uncontrollably before you touch him, get mad that he's doing it, and then (rare phenomenon) angry giggle. very cute.

Zuko can't firebend if he's laughing because firebending needs air. When he throws his little tantrums or goes to do something reckless (and stupid), whoever is closest to him is quick to poke his sides and the air leaves him in this big woosh. If he tries to firebend (which he probably doesn't, he doesn't wanna hurt anyone), lil sparks come off his hands.

tickling Zuko is objectively funny because he curls up like a lil pillbug, but when you hit a bad spot he uncurls and every limb seeks violence. category six flailing event. Sokka comes back to camp with a black eye and Suki and Katara are ready for bloodshed, but he has to stumble through an explanation of why on earth he thought tickling Zuko was a good idea (worth it, no regrets. not pictured: toph smirking bc she could feel zuko's laughter reverberating through the ground)

mai does not know this about him until Ty Lee finds out. Mai takes full advantage and Zuko pretends to hate it with all his might.

i think if we're exiting the lil utopia bubble here for a sec zuko canonically probably hates being tickled. azula strikes me as the kind to torment him with it. but i'm choosing to remain within the bubble. i like the bubble.

zuko mirrors behaviors that he sees other gaang members doing to try and fit in. and i just. Zuko getting bold enough to poke someone and everyone is delighted because he's graduated to physical contact. and then he's like "why are you all looking at me like that"

i can one hundred percent see the gaang having like a 'days since zuko's last temper tantrum' counter or whatever. like as he mellows out it becomes harder to provoke him. Except one day Sokka goes too far and Zuko jumps him and everyone has a split-second fear that he's like genuinely snapped...until Sokka is shrieking and everything's fine actually. (the counter gets reset).

zuko and toph being touchy besties is everything to me actually and i like to think they are constantly irritating each other with lil pokes and stuff. toph likes to drape herself over Zuko at her own peril.

Aang sometimes won't take his training seriously because he's just not intimidated by Zuko anymore. Zuko's like. well. I can fix that. and aang Flees.

Zuko has so much respect for Suki and refuses to lay a hand on her and hurt her when they spar, but Suki's like. C'mon fireboy. Zuko remembers something about her that Sokka said in passing and he's like well! this will work! (i just have this visual of aang being like 'wow the kyoshi warriors are so cool zuko's so special getting to train with Suki'. meanwhile Zuko and Suki are in a tickle fight so intense that they've smashed and burnt furniture).

Jaune arc waking up from a nightmare only to learn he is not in his room. He soon discovered he is the older brother to penny as he has somehow gone back in time 1 year before beacon as penny big brother.

(Well, if we're going to do this, we're going to do this right with a time travel au)

Jaune fell out of bed with a yelp, heart still racing from the panic he had felt in his nightmare. Watching his friends fall one by one off the bridge into the void, seeing Winter grab the relic and going through the portal as the bridge under him finally dissolved, plunging him down into what seemed like an endless void. And yet, as he untangled himself from his sheets, he found himself in an unfamiliar bedroom. A single bed, no hand-me downs from his sisters, just bare wooden walls with Atlas tech integrated into it for lights. 

“Are you up yet, Jaune?” Pietro asked between a couple of coughs. “You’re uh… you’re going to miss coming up to Atlas with me. I know you’ve been wanting to train to be a medic and I-I’ve managed to get you an interview.” 

“A-a medic?” Jaune asked as he started to get dressed, still trying to wrap his mind around the idea that he was living with Pietro. Not that he minded, what he remembered of Pietro made him enjoy the idea, though he never really thought about a life without his sisters. “R-right! My uh… my dream… job!” He fell back a bit as he pulled his pants up, falling onto the ground and almost hitting his head against the dresser. “I’ll be right out!” 

“Thirty minutes.” 

Jaune sighed and picked himself up as he finished getting dressed, pushing the thousands of questions that ran through his mind to the side as he grabbed a quick breakfast before following Pietro out and to the airship to Atlas. He pulled his coat close as the cold air nipped at him, a sudden realization that he hadnt unlocked his aura yet just like before. Though, he had to admit it was better than the alternative of what could’ve happened falling into the void. Though, if he was here, then Ruby and her team had to be too, right? 

He shook his head to try to push the question away for now, wanting to focus on what he could find out about this life he was living first before trying to worry about his friends. If they were here then they’d be fine, but if they werent…

“Everything okay?” Pietro asked. “You’re quieter than normal.” 

Jaune nodded as he was pulled out of his thoughts. “Y-yeah, I’m fine. Lost in thought is all.” 

“What about?” 

“About a few friends of mine.” 

Pietro smiled a bit. “I’m glad you’re making friends. Though, you do have to make sure to spend some time with your sister.” 

Jaune almost wanted to ask what Pietro meant until he realized who he was talking about. Penny. His hand shook at the thought as the image of him running a blade through her ran through his mind, heart racing as his breathing started to shallow a bit. “She’s okay then,” he muttered under her breath.

“What was that?” 

“I-I’ll make sure I spend plenty of time with her!” 

“I have no worries about that.” 

Jaune relaxed a bit as he boarded the airship with Pietro, heart still racing as he saw Penny’s face in his mind. She was here and okay, then that meant his friends were still here as well. He pulled out his scroll and started to search up where Ruby and her team ended up. Weiss was the easiest to find, still heiress to the SDC, a bit of a relief to what she could’ve been. Ruby and Yang were a bit harder to find, but thanks to the Atlas network, he was able to find that they were still in Signal Academy, which meant Beacon was still a year or two away, plenty of time to get back into training to get himself back on track. Blake seemed to be a mystery on her whereabouts, the only information being found on her was a missing post from her parents, which he’d normally worry about if he didnt already know about her past from before. 

Then, he found himself searching up Pyrrha, staring at her picture in an article about her winning her fifth tournament, a first for someone as young as her. Jaune tapped on her picture, running a finger down it as a few tears welled up in his eyes. He was pull back in time into a different timeline, his friends were okay, Beacon was still standing, and he now had another chance to do things right with Pyrrha.

“Another friend of yours?” Pietro asked as he looked over Jaune’s shoulder. 

“N-no,” Jaune answered as he put his scroll away. “Someone I would like to get to know though.” 

“I’m sure you’ll get to meet her one day.” 

Jaune nodded as the airship landed in the Atlas Academy hanger, nervously stepping off as he followed Pietro through the Academy. It looked just the same as it did before, a bit of a welcome sight all things considered. Though the alarms were still fresh in his mind, listening to the soldiers going after him and his team in order to arrest them after Ironwood declared them enemies. Though what really made his heart stop was hearing his name called, and then feeling a familiar, mechanical body slam into him.  

“Jaune!” 

He froze when he realized Penny was there hugging him, alive and well and mechanical just like she was before Beacon. His breath hitched as he remembered plunging his sword into her, his body shaking as he saw himself in that same nightmare, the look in her eyes as she asked her to trust him. 

“Is… is everything okay?” Penny asked. 

Jaune slowly nodded and hugged Penny tightly, thankful she was here. “Y-yeah, everything… everything’s fine. Had a nightmare last night and… and a bit shaken up by it.” 

“Then we should take you to get checked-” 

“No, I’m fine, really.” Jaune took a deep breath and relaxed himself. “I’m fine. The nightmare felt a lot more real than it was.” 

Penny pulled away and smiled at him. “If you are sure. But I do have to go train, so I will see you later.” 

“Training?” Jaune paused for a moment. “PIet- dad… I… I want to train to be a huntsman.” 

Pietro paused in his step. “A huntsman?” 

“Y-yeah, to help protect people. A-and Penny.” Jaune pulled out his scroll once more to show an application for Beacon Academy. “We can both go to Beacon. It’ll be safe, no one will know she’s an android and she can make a few friends. It’ll help her be ready for whatever she’ll face.” 

Pietro looked at the application, and then to Jaune. “It’ll take a bit longer than a year to get you ready for this.” 

“I know, but I can do it.” Jaune smiled a bit. “I’m ready to be a huntsman.”

Prismeya, missing a leg: So.

Ironwood, a large section of his torso bandaged: ... You left me to die.

Prismeya: I left you to die? I left you to die? If I recall correctly, you abandoned Me and the village behind because of your damned "Duty"

Prismeya: I came here to check in on you, to talk to you, but you open with that?

Ironwood: There was a casualty Rate of 67% Prismeya!

Prismeya: Because you left! Because your plan would've saved just under two thirds of the population! If you'd been by my side, the chance we'd have saved nearly everyone was So Fucking High!

Ironwood: But it was still a chance. You truly believe taking a gamble with other's lives is better than certainty in success? Your pride wouldn't let you see that, and now we're both injured because of it.

Prismeya: ... I refuse to take the blame for you leaving your back up. You refused to talk about our options, and everyone suffered for it. I hope you learn to listen to others, because that pride you have in Atlas will be it's downfall.

Atlas Shrugged Read-Through: PP 14-20

Our first introduction to the primary antagonist of Atlas Shrugged, Jim Taggart, is with him sitting at his desk saying "Don't bother me, don't bother me, don't bother me."

The unpleasant task that Eddie Willers has been facing is coming into Jim's office to tell him that a delivery of steel that has been delayed multiple times will be delayed again. Jim ordered the steel from his friend, Orren Boyle, who runs Associated Steel. Jim insists to Eddie that he won't hear of ordering the metal from the competing company, Rearden Steel, run by Hank Rearden. Taggart Transcontinental needs the steel because their Rio Norte line is too damaged to keep safely running trains on, and they are being outcompeted in the region by a small, local railroad called the Phoenix-Durango. Eddie is telling Jim to make a decision because the regional line supports the oil operation of Ellis Wyatt.

All of these are important characters and business that will come up a lot but they're not the real focus of this scene. The real focus of this scene is making Jim Taggart look like a big throbbing asshole, which is how you're supposed to think of him.

Here are a few of his lines from this brief scene:

"Who's thinking of giving up the Rio Norte Line?" he asked. "There's never been any question of giving it up. I resent your saying it. I resent it very much."

"Orren is my friend." He heard no answer. "I resent your attitude. Orren Boyle will deliver that rail just as soon as it's humanly possible. So long as he can't deliver it, nobody can blame us."

"Ellis Wyatt is a greedy bastard who's after nothing but money," said James Taggart. "It seems to me that there are more important things in life than making money."

"I think he's a destructive, unscrupulous ruffian. I think he's an irresponsible upstart who's been grossly overrated." It was astonishing to hear a sudden emotion in James Taggart's lifeless voice. "I'm not so sure that his oil fields are such a beneficial achievement. It seems to me that he's dislocated the economy of the whole country. Nobody expected Colorado to become an industrial state. How can we have any security or plan anything if everything changes all the time? [...] Yes, I know, I know, he's making money. But that is not the standard, it seems to me, by which one gauges a man's value to society. And as for his oil, he'd come crawling to us. and he'd wait his turn along with all the other shippers, and he wouldn't demand more than his fair share of transportation—if it weren't for the Phoenix-Durango. We can't help it if we're up against destructive competition of that kind. Nobody can blame us."

Jim Taggart is aggrieved. He is whiny, he doesn't accept responsibility for his actions, he resents people who are more active than he is (at least if they make demands on his time or cost him business by shifting their purchases to his competitors).

Jim is not written well, but the way that he is poorly written is interesting. Rand's big bad guy is an industrialist who doesn't take responsibility for his actions and who wants other people to do all of the hard work.

I'm going to get right to the big reveal in the middle of the book: Jim and the Moochers force through a law that means that nobody can compete with them. Other railroads shut down, new innovative companies have to give their capital to older businesses.

On the one hand, I think there's something clever that Rand is doing here. Jim and the Moochers use what is essentially "weaponized wokeness" (mealy-mouthed speeches about collectivism) to place themselves at the head of state-backed monopolies. They're not evil just because they're whiny and don't take responsibility, they're evil because they can use the power of the state to crush competitors, which also allows them to exploit workers and consumers.

On the other hand: I can't tell if Rand is being stupid or malicious in attributing the motivations for these actions to a collectivist impulse.

She clearly, obviously, deeply hated collectivism. But when each of her characters are revealed down to the nastiest, darkest parts of themselves it's revealed that their collectivist talk was meant to cover up personal greed. So I can't tell: stupid or malicious? Is she being stupid, and genuinely doesn't believe that anyone who talks about or works toward communal goods and shared resources actually wants those things? Or is she being malicious and suggesting that all people who claim to want to do things for the benefit of everyone are actually greedy and are trying to burn down the rest of the world so that they can stand on a slightly nicer bit of the ashes?

I haven't read much of Rand's non-fiction, or watched too many interviews with her, but I know that at one point she discussed the evils of altruism by saying that the Nazis were motivated by altruism. That seems like it's pulling a pretty bullshit rhetorical trick and defining "nationalism" as "altruism." And that's what she does with the evil characters in her books - makes them do terrible things while saying that they're doing so for the good of mankind when everybody knows the score. It's a bullshit rhetorical trick.

And this is how we're introduced to Jim Taggart. He's a wealthy industrialist who is whining to his sister's assistant that he can't be blamed that his friend is late with a delivery of steel. And I think Jim Taggart is a pretty good example of Rand being more malicious than stupid. We're going to learn a lot about his motivations and desires throughout the book and they come together to make a laboriously crafted strawman of an evil capitalist.

Anyway. Eddie walks out of their meeting after Jim insults his own sister; Eddie at that point finds an old clerk repairing a typewriter (one that has been repaired before and is made of inferior materials - planned obsolescence; a subject that I will have to yell about somewhere else) and asking Eddie if he knows where anyone can get woolen undershirts. Jim's office has been a break from the most visceral reminders of the bleak, slow-motion collapse of the economy that Eddie is confronted with as soon as he's out of the room again, and he is once again bothered by the question "Who is John Galt?" - the question that opened the novel in the mouth of a bum - as the introductory scene of the novel ends.

Chapter eight: a lesson about zatieon

Enfys woke up the next day with their back cracking like little branches and a little cranky. Ether wasn't so affected by camping outside.

"Dear gods I forgot how this feels. I've gotten soft." Said enfys while stretching a little and bending his back.

"If it's so bad I can carry you upside down. I used to do that sometime for fun and i could hear plenty of cracks then." Ether suggested

Enfys's face changed into a look of horror

"THAT'D HURT LIKE CRAZY." He answered. Looking in pain just imagining that scenario. "I'll be fine. Let's just keep walking, we need to get to zatieon a little earlier than we told the ruler." He said while sprinting, his back cracked a few times through that but it stopped after.

"Oh yeah. What's zatieon? I remember the word from somewhere." Ether asked in confusion

"I forgot you dont know alot about anything outside the ruins. Zatieon is a neighbouring country to your fallen kingdom. Though the connection between the two nations was.....bad. the king and the last ruler of zatieon hated each other alot." Enfys talked while bringing out an atlas and showing ether the map. "See? It's not too far from you but the last ruler forbade any news or any sort of acknowledgement of your existence. The people didnt protest- they kinda hated your kingdom alot too. But your father sealed the deal by insulting the ruler and well. It's the reason they JUST realized your kingdom has fallen after over 20 years."

Ether looked a little sad but not surprised. "So nobody liked my kingdom and nobody cared when it fell huh?"

Enfys closed the atlas and looked him in the eyes. "They may have deserved alot but they didnt deserve this torture. My family doesn't think so. I dont either. And I dont think you deserve this fate at all ether." Enfys stopped him before saying this as to get him to focus. Ether looked like he blushed a little.

"Thank you.....hey what do I need to know about zatieon? Anything interesting?" He said while walking again hastily to change the subject. Enfys saw right through him but he played along.

"Well you see zatieon is a biiiiiig country. They didnt do any conquests or anything they just kinda flocked together from around the continent at the orders of some wealthy family heads who wanted to unite under one nation. They took as much space as they wanted and honestly it helped keep the country afloat. The country is run by the last rulers child- the one we're meeting- zaroth. The rulers keep the names and looks of their children a secret until they need to resign."

Ether looked interested. "That sounds very strange. To not know how your rulers children look."

"Oh its because they fight over the throne when the ruler steps down."

"Huh?" Ether exclaimed in surprise.

"The children of the ruler join the battle for the throne. After the ruler feels like they're getting too old to rule or feel like they want to retire they issue a form of tournament. The people in said tournament compete in many ways that show wits, strategical prowess and battle capabilities. They do it infront of an audience and they even get a watchbug to keep track of the whole thing to show it to everyone later. Contenders only get disqualified after they fail 2 trials in a row of the same type. The children of the ruler join the fray and have to earn their spot in the tournament. Of course the children get trained and everything before this moment but it guarantees no one will go easy on them or try to harm them too much based on a grudge. At the very end the contenders go against the ruler himself and they're either in or out. Zaroth and their sister aimanat competed and as I heard they both won against their father. And right when they were about to fight each other aimanat kneeled and swore allegiance to zaroth."

Ether looked fascinated and in awe. "So we are going into a country ruled by THE greatest person in it as they earned that title???? AND WE'RE MEETING THAT PERSON???"

Enfys looked a little jealous of how excited ether was to meet zaroth. "...yes."

"Alright then we're going to the river right before we get there."

"I'm sorry?"

"I need to wash myself before I meet that person. Oh I'll need your help hiding this though. *gesturing at his werewolf arm*"

".....sure!" enfys smiled a smile with full teeth that looked like it was forced but ether didn't notice.

"I'm so excited now! Anything else about zatieon? Anything else amazing?" Ether had star eyes while getting her face close to enfys's

"W-well....." enfys looked a little flustered. "There is ONE more thing. The people of zatieon have the ability to hear the magic going through things on command."

Ether slanted his head "hear?"

"Yes. Remember how I told you that your body makes a sort of current of magic whenever you use it? They can hear the power of your soul and how much magic you let go through your body when you make a spell."

"That sounds like alot of pain. You said magic is in every living being. They'd go insane."

"Well no they have this weird ability to center it on one thing. They studied its limits and everything but they have no idea of the origin. They only knew it started appearing sometime after the country was established."

Ether put his hand on his chin and wondered for a few seconds on why that would be.

"Well why dont we try finding it out! Like right now! I'm bored and my brain is totally burnt from all this information so I cant hear much more of it haha."

Enfys smiled and rolled their eyes. "Sure. Lets solve a mystery even the people who have the ability cant." He said sarcastically

"That's the spirit!"

"Wait ether-"

"So I think it maybe something they eat! Like how some plants make your mouth smell good for a while. "

Ether and enfys then kept arguing and brainstorming about this until night came. This time they had the sweet potatoes ready as ether brought extra.

Ether also tried getting the ground to be a little nicer on enfys's back. Enfys appreciated it. They laid down to sleep but kept the pheonix nest around.

"Hey enfys?"

"Hm?"

"I was wondering who the gods are. You mentioned them earlier today."

Enfys looked a little pleased. "You're one good student you know that?"

"Alright Alright! Let me do this how it should be done though." Enfys started making clouds and fog similar to what ether saw when enfys told him a story. Ether sat up straight, his excitement was apparent on how his eyes shined. "Its story time."

".....hehehehe. well now I do. But come on tell me!"
