I'm on a work trip--it's a class of people in my field picked from all over the country, so I don't know anyone else here--and the info packet I got basically said "people have told us they wish they'd been given a chance to meet everyone else before the class starts, so if you want to do that, show up to the hotel bar at this time and look for people who look like lawyers."

and I know. that I should go do this, because networking good. but also. this is weirdly stressful. how do I make sure that a group of random lawyers knows I am also a lawyer while still being casual and chill but not dressed formally at all

Hey guys!!

For a while I've been doodling portraits of Bloodborne characters as self-reference - to avoid the sameface, to design unshown characters, to study existing data and whatnot...

I was doodling them as I had the need for them, but recently I realized I've had so many of them piled up that I could share them already! I added some notes and also clarifications (as it is possible to skip some characters depending on the playstyle... or on lacking a PS for that matter....).

It is still not everyone, of course; I am still missing characters like two boss Witches of Hemwick when they were younger, Clocktower patients, the door NPCs (despite having full headcanons for two of them), some cut content names and what not. I hope I'll get to others some other time as I don't like leaving characters out, but I just feel like that's enough for a post!

Again, it is the SELF-reference. Some colors were altered from the data according to how /I/ draw the character (for example the 'greyish red' eyes looking grey or purple on most NPCs that use them, Edgar being more orange-haired than in the data, etc). I'm almost 1 month into "read whatever the fuck you want 2024" and honestly? loving it! I haven't regretted a single book I picked up, even the one I didn't really like at the end, because I'm only reading books I *want* to read.

I didn't realize how much unnecessary pressure I put on myself last year by having such a rigid TBR list (even if it was 82 books long), but it's so freeing to just...read anything and not be dogged by the feeling of "I must read books off the list so I can finish it/I must finish this book faster so I can get back to the list/I must not take time off reading/I must criticize myself for choosing a long/short book based on the timeframe." I completely unintentionally gamified reading and by the end of 2023 it was more of a chore than anything. The worst part is, I wasn't even trying to gamify it, I made zero rules about not reading books off the TBR or whatever. My brain just latched onto "this is your mission and you must complete it" and...yeah. whoops?

Honestly it's taken a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, but I picked up this book feeling excited to read it and not "ugh, here we go, another Book that Must Be Read" (which admittedly I did think when I started Bright Doors and that's probably why it took nearly 2 weeks to read, despite not being a very long book), so I think my burnout is finally healing. Just taking my time, reading what I want, understanding that books can just ~go back to the library~ or ~wait on the shelf~ if I'm suddenly disinterested in them. But also, sometimes trying to make myself read just to remember that stories are good and fun when you just read for the sake of hearing a story and not to accomplish a goal.

TLDR holy shit I enjoy my hobby again, it only took complete burnout, several weeks, and doing a ridiculously thorough cleaning-out of my bookshelves.
