#but they just can't seem to see past their biases and hatred

I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your insight and generosity with your perspective as an anti-zionist israeli, something you absolutely don't owe us but I feel immense amounts of respect and admiration for. from an American jew, it's been so valuable to know there are people like you out there, it's made everything feel much less hopeless despite all the hopelessness. I've felt very alone recently, surrounded by all the Jewish people in my life who are pro-israel and don't seem to grasp the gravity of the situation and my pro-palestine gentile friends, and I've felt very alone in my grief as I've only really started to unpack and dismantle my own biases very recently. reading your posts and your perspective on everything has just made me feel very seen as a jew in this situation, especially as I try to reconcile my feelings about everything going on with my own feelings about my faith and my identity.
you've probably seen that I've gone through a lot of your posts and that I've followed you. i just want you to know that I'm not necessarily following you just for that, I know you're just a fandom blog, it's just that after looking through your posts I feel like you're just a really nice person and seeing yoi on my dash from you would be endearing coming from you even though im not into it myself.
just. thank you again for sharing your story and continuing to share. you have no idea how much it's helped me.
I'm in tears. I've been crying way more than usual over the past couple of months, but it's nice for a change to have those tears to come from being touched instead of grief. I apologize if I'm going to ramble.
You say I didn't owe you all this, but I do feel responsible. I'm watching so much destruction and seeing how comfortable people around me are with the loss of life. This is why I've been talking about what we do and not as much about the impact of October 7 on me or people I know. I did a bit of that in the beginning, but pretending it was the start of everything to keep going back to that one day, after two months of horror, as if I can't count past 7... I didn't choose to be born where I am, I didn't choose to grow up in the most extremist community this place has to offer. But since I'm here, since I'm comfortable at the expense of Palestinians and violence is being done in my name and I have the tools to highlight issues within my society, I think it's a moral obligation.
I know how I talk about things here, and that's genuinely because I don't want to minimize the severity of the racism and the nationalism in Israel. And someone perceived my words as showing hatred for Israelis. But... I love my people. I don't expect those who see or experience our violence to feel the same or even understand me, but I do. It's my neighbors and my childhood friends and my family. It's children I see playing outside and getting excited when they see I have a cat, and the random people who stop me in the street and give me directions if they think I look lost.
Even growing up in the West Bank settlements, the people were very good to me. I needed years to internalize the fact that this kindness doesn't get extended to you if you're not part of the in-group. It broke my heart. It still does. Seeing people who I know are capable of kindness and compassion, hardening themselves against the pain of other human beings. Closing their eyes and telling themselves it isn't real. It's all an act.
I told a friend I feel like I'm betraying my mom, who was deeply bigoted, but also a wonderful mother. She taught me a lot of the principles that are guiding me now - I just took down the walls she put around who deserves to be considered. She'd be horrified with seeing the things I'm saying if she was still alive. But she taught me to care about people, I just decided it means all people.
Everyone should be prioritizing Palestinian liberation, and at the same time, I care about this too. I care about the morality of my people. I need us to be better than this. I want to dismantle the nationalism that teaches us hate and violence so we can start to heal and come to terms with what we did (and still do) here. I want us to fix what we can and hold ourselves accountable. I want us to reimagine safety in a way that doesn't cause harm, and build good relationships with the rest of humanity. Every marginalized community is experiencing bigotry in interactions with every other community, that's just how these things work. But I believe healing the world, and healing my society, is possible.
And it's hard, because so much of what we learn is rooted in truth. Antisemitism is real. Millennia of persecution are real. The trauma we carry is real. If the idea of an ethnostate makes us feel safe, and the idea of losing it makes us scared, how do we differentiate between fear as a natural reaction to antisemitic violence and fear that was taught to us for the sake of nationalism? Especially those of us living in Israel, immersed in the propaganda. It doesn't matter in practice, our feelings of safety or fear don't justify an ethnostate, especially not one built on top of another nation, but it matters for the conversations I have with people.
And I said that the violence I'm seeing feels like an attack on my identity. Seeing a giant hannukiyah in Gaza, when Hannukah tells the story of occupied people fighting off their oppressors. Seeing images that echo so much of the horrors that were done to us. The Magen David being used with hate and spite. It's all so painful. And I love this land, it's the only home I've known, so seeing us destroying nature and soaking it with blood and calling that connection?
Judaism does guide me here. The concept of tikkun olam. The idea of לא עליך המלאכה לגמור ולא אתה בין חורין לבטל ממנה - doing what I can, even if what I'm able to do isn't some decisive blow that entirely turns the tide. The idea that every human being is a whole entire world, to me it means that every single person alive is worth fighting for. So no matter how much death I see, there's still worlds more to save.
And Jewitches had this post that felt just healing to read. Nationalism hijacked our culture, and it will always leave a mark for centuries into the future. But I'm not letting go, and I'm not letting that create a rift between me and thousands of years full of history I can be proud of.
I feel your grief. And I'm grateful for the anti-zionist Jews I met by talking about this, because honestly, I need you people in my life. The pain and the anger are both easier to hold together.
So, thank you for following. I might follow back, just to see you around on my feed. And thank you for sending this. Feel free to message me anytime for any reason (I promise it won't result in a lecture every time).
Also, your url gave me pjo nostalgia

I’d like your opinion if not too much of a bother: Do you think that in actual canon Sauron was somewhat initially sincere in his offer to help the elves improve middle earth? It reads to me like he was only interested in lying to the elves of Eregion for his own personal use, but I can’t get past the idea that it seemed so easy for him to fool them. Fooling men is one thing, but the elves seem to take stock of others much more accurately. The easiest way to deceive is to have some truth mixed in with the lies. There is somewhere that says something to the effect of his repentance might have been sincere initially at one time (though I think it was more because he was scared for himself).
Questions about Sauron are never a bother!!!
Short answer: Yes, I think Sauron was somewhat sincere in his offer to help the elves improve Middle-earth.
Longer answer: Yes, I think Sauron was somewhat sincere in his offer to help the elves improve Middle-earth and I have textual support!
The well known line that you referred to is from Of The Rings of Power and the Third Age in the Silmarillion, and is regarding Sauron abjuring his past deeds to Eönwë:
And some hold that this was not at first falsely done, but that Sauron in truth repented, if only out of fear, being dismayed by the fall of Morgoth and the great wrath of the Lords of the West.
Now, you can (fairly) make the argument that this is no true repentance if he's just doing so because he's scared, and that by the time he approaches the elves circa S.A. 1000, he was back to being 100% bad vibes, evil all day e'er day, bad news bears, etc. but I think his desire to work with the elves to improve the world was genuine.
This is slightly undercut by what comes next:
Seeing the desolation of the world, Sauron said in his heart that the Valar, having overthrown Morgoth, had again forgotten Middle-earth; and his pride grew apace. He looked with hatred on the Eldar, and he feared the Men of Númenor who came back at whiles in their ships to the shores of Middle-earth; but for long he dissembled his mind and concealed the dark designs that he shaped in his heart.
You might say, well there you have it, he has dark designs and hates the elves, case closed pack it up, but WAIT. Now, if you know me, you know I don't hold much truck with most 'biased narrator' bs, but I do think it's worthwhile whenever we are being told about a character's thoughts to consider the framing of the story and how those thoughts could possibly have been known. I think in this case and in others (for instance, Maedhros' thoughts right before he dies) we can assume that whoever is recording the story, whatever their motives, did not actually know what characters like Sauron are thinking.
'But Aipi, you filthy hypocrite,' you say. 'You've argued yourself that the 'single narrator' lens of the Silm that many fans take misconstrues what's going on, since the sources it pulls from have multiple in-text historians and bards or sometimes none at all, and because of that, you can't just chuck out the lines you don't like with no evidence.'
Fair, totally fair, but I have evidence!
The reason I think the "dark designs" bit is color added by a historian who did not actually know Sauron's thoughts at the time he came to the elves is because of On Motives.
If you are a Sauron fan, I highly recommend tracking down a copy of Morgoth's Ring and reading the chapter 'Notes on Motives in the Silmarillion'. I am resisting quoting the whole thing, but importantly we are told:
[Sauron] did not object to the existence of the world, so long as he could do what he liked with it. He still had the relics of positive purposes, that descended from the good of the nature in which he began: it had been his virtue (and therefore also the cause of his fall, and of his relapse) that he loved order and co-ordination, and disliked all confusion and wasteful friction.
On Motives gives us several important facts: Sauron has the relics of positive purpose, he has the virtue of loving order and coordination, he fell and then again relapsed (which means he must have achieved some sort of not-evil state inbetween the fall and the relapse!).
We also get this wonderful line comparing Sauron and Saruman:
Sauron's love (originally) or (later) mere understanding of other individual intelligences was correspondingly weaker.
And there are other references to Sauron being capable of admiring minds outside of his own in On Motives. To me, all this points to Sauron not only coming to the elves with genuine aspirations to help, but also that at this point perhaps 'hatred of the Eldar' is a wee bit overblown.
The idea that Sauron falls, starts to walk a better path, and falls again is a key motif in the history of Middle-earth. It echoes Morgoth's arc, and then is replicated in miniature in a way in Gollum. He has some genuinely good intentions, but these are warped by his desire for control and the corrupting nature of power.
There's even more bits on Sauron and his fair motives in Tolkien's letters, but I think I'll wrap with this quote (another fave):
But at the beginning of the Second Age he was still beautiful to look at, or could still assume a beautiful visible shape – and was not indeed wholly evil, not unless all 'reformers' who want to hurry up with 'reconstruction' and 'reorganization' are wholly evil, even before pride and the lust to exert their will eat them up.
Perhaps Sauron was always doomed to fall again because of his need to control, but I think the elves of Eregion recognized a genuine kindred motive in him.

POST THE DOUBKE PARALLELS PLSPLSPLS
HNGH OKAY SO,
First of all just some General Visual Parallels (ones that while I don't have any particular Thoughts or Deep Analysis on they're Neat :) (also they fit more into the overarching smoking trio parallels since Kazui has a matching one too) I'm sorry Kazui my blog is so biased orz)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mfs when they hold the left side of their face while forcing out a pained smile (Although with Mikoto it's just his general lying/trying to brush off his own suffering while with Shidou we're looking at him at his most painfully honest) ((Also they both have phone calls in their songs which I think is Great))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cool eye shots :) (Am I the only one who thinks Mikoto's eyes are very pretty :sob: ((Also now the entire smoking trio has one of these close up eye shots, I also love that Mikoto and Orekoto both get individual shots nobody gets left out (Ignoring the fact that they Disbanded)))
Okay but time for. My Actual Shitty Parallels Analysis bear with me guys here this is gonna get Messy,
Idk if I talked about this Before but Shidou and John (I'm sorry guys I Need to adjust to it I'm gonna call him John here) are both obviously extremely tied to their "purpose" of protecting people, specifically their loved ones (Shidou's Family/Mikoto). However they obviously go at it very Differently, John's method Is harmful (violence/killing) while Shidou's is supposed to be the complete Opposite (treating/healing).
There's also something interesting about their victims. I can't say for sure from Double if Multiple people were Actually murdered, but it seems to be portrayed that way by John at least; he and Shidou both portray themselves as having multiple victims, and they're also portrayed completely differently than their loved ones (Flowers/Tags, Mannequins, they're not entirely portrayed as people and have little to no identity, their lives were set aside to protect/save the ones they cared about)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The environment in Shidou's MV is also very sterile and clean looking while John's is covered in blood. They're both surrounded by their representations of the lives they took)
From what we've seen this purpose is currently what basically makes or breaks their will/reason to live, these people are their entire worlds, if they can't even save the ones they care about they may as well have nothing, and what happened with that purpose of protecting?
Well. They failed.
Shidou's fails to protect/save his family and John fails to protect/save Mikoto, and their arcs with how they go Forward with this failure completely Kills Me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I fucking. Hrmghsdflbds these shots at the ends of their respective mvs are the shots that pretty much prompted this post. Shidou reaches out and, despite his failures, tries to push past his self-hatred and resolves to continue living and protecting others. Meanwhile, John closes in on himself with renewed self-hatred, and decides that it would be better off if he disappeared/went dormant.
Just. Aheem aheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem
GOD, GOD (while the shots themselves don't exactly parallel, the lyrics. Oh The Lyrics)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"So hey, prolong my life" / "If only I were never born, if only"
"I'm Dispensable" / "I'm So Sorry"
Minus the "Why, why" in Double, these are the Last Two Lines for both of their songs and,
I'M GONNA HIT SOMETHING,
We see John with the most Openly Distressed expression we've seen on him meanwhile Shidou has almost Cold Resolve
Shidou and John's arcs are going in completely opposite directions and that Breaks my Fucking Heart Man oh my God get me Out of here Get Me Out (I hope these shots also helps articulate that parallel I tried to make earlier about the different ways they go at protecting people? Shidou puts on new white, clean gloves meanwhile John's hands are completely coated in blood and just. Man,).
Just. Yeah. Yeah,
Pain
God I hope this makes sense to Someone I'm going Insane
Most miserable guys ever I love them so much </333

aventurine rant and personal critiques about 2.1's writing below
Tumblr media
(to preface... i am biased towards Sunday and his plight, and firmly against the IPC and their plans concerning retaking Penacony. but that's not to say that i support the Family as a whole either.)
why was 80% of the 2.1 quest about Aventurine? isn't that what character stories and companion quests are for?
to begin, the first thing that bothered me was how the game seemed to want the player to believe that Aventurine's offer wasn't forced. examples below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
although it... was forced. you can tell him that you won't associate with the IPC and he will tell you not to worry about it, and just "reconsider it" by talking to your companions (mainly the Navigator, Himeko) at the express (basically implying that our opinion does not matter to him in the slightest). dialogue below:
Tumblr media
(now i don't know if it's my personal hatred for being controlled and told what to do that's making me see this differently... but i have talked this over with a friend of mine and they do agree that it Does seem forced. i might be putting myself in an echo chamber by doing this, but at least i'm not alone!)
my point with the above is that the game tries to get you to sympathize with Aventurine from the beginning, and forces your hand when it comes to agreeing to his proposal by making some - frankly - stupid excuses as to why we should trust him. maybe others found them to be convincing/enough, but to me it just seemed like a cheap way to get the story rolling. (also, since when did we become pawns of the IPC? Penacony's debt is none of our business, and, not to get political... but it reminds me of real life sentiments that colonialist people hold about countries that "belonged to them in the past", despite that country having years of history and development since/before then (and i do not care if that country's political system is corrupt, or that they have unpaid debt. that is not an excuse to bring about war and occupation.). also, i sincerely hate how Aventurine wasn't even hiding that he views Robin's death as an opportunity, or, in his words, a "bargaining chip". we're made to sympathize with him and his dead family but he can't read the room and show some genuine sympathy himself, can he?)
...so the story goes on. we get some Welt and Acheron bits, a bit of Black Swan, and some investigation on the front of Himeko, March 7th, and the trailblazer. then the focus falls back on Aventurine. but, for the time being, it's fine - because at least he's alongside Dr. Ratio and their bickering is entertaining.
which leads to the scene where Sunday confronts Aventurine. yes, Sunday is manipulative. he begins by praising Aventurine and buttering him up, seemingly trying to get Aventurine to lower his guard. but let's not forget that Aventurine is also being manipulative - using Sunday's recent close family death as leverage for his own schemes. Sunday knows this, and so calls upon the help of Xipe, the Harmony, to bring the truth to light.
Tumblr media
now, Sunday doesn't outright warn him about the consequences of not answering or answering falsely, but the implication is there. Sunday gives Aventurine a chance to come clean. and what does Aventurine do? he lies, basically securing his own fate like that. another example of Sunday giving Aventurine a chance to admit the truth was here:
Tumblr media
"it's your last chance to defend your honor". up until the point where he gave Aventurine the box, Aventurine had countless chances to stop betting with his life and do the simplest thing - answer truthfully. but he didn't. so, my question is: why does all the blame fall on Sunday when it was Aventurine who got himself into that predicament in the first place? it also gets implied multiple times that Aventurine wanted that conclusion all along...
...which leads me to the next topic. people viewing him as this "genius mastermind" - when in reality, he's no more than a self-destructive gambler that simply puts faith in his good luck to lead him to the conclusion that he wants. and, honestly? that seems like a very immature mentality to me. there's nothing admirable about him risking it all time and time again, and i'm not sure why exactly i'm meant to sympathize with that part of him. also...
Tumblr media
don't be a hypocrite yourself, Aventurine. you also lied and was planning to manipulate from the beginning - them expecting the truth from you shouldn't come as a surprise.
now, i'm not going to fully go into the 2 or so hours of pure Aventurine³ content (or, as my friend put it, "exposition vomit"), other than saying that his story could've definitely been told in a much more concise manner than what we got. i mean, good for the Aventurine fans out there, i'm happy for them. but, writing-wise, that was pretty out of place. in comparison, Acheron's backstory only got implied, and was kept mostly a mystery. you can only find bits and pieces of Sunday and Robin's upbringing by reading the letter Robin sent to her brother, and observing the "concert for two" lightcone in that same room. Firefly says some things about her condition and spends a significant part of the 2.0 quest with Trailblazer, but at least the main character is part of that story. Aventurine's case seemed like a blatant pity party from the writers - from the beginning of 2.1 til the end. now i'm not saying that his backstory isn't tragic; the first time i played through the story i sympathized with him. it was heartbreaking. but that genuinely could've been saved for a companion quest.
another thing i thought was out of place was Aventurine's hatred for the Family. seeing his backstory, i believed that they were leading up to the Family being somehow responsible for his rough upbringing/period of slavery, so that was Aventurine enacting his revenge on them. but that was... not the case. instead, he's only(?) doing this for the IPC, with no true motivation of his own. in other words, why is he trying to bring the Family down so avidly? i'm not convinced that his reasons are good enough for him to cause so much chaos to a nation/organization that has nothing to do with him. if it is purely because of the IPC's whims, then that is not very "free will" of him.
despite all my qualms, i don't hate Aventurine. the Penacony characters are hard to hate in general, for they're all intriguing in their own ways. but i do think i've been a bit too over-exposed to him. maybe i'd go as far as to say that he was overhyped - they could've handled his story better, and not simply thrown everything they had for him in one singular questline right before his release. personally, even with the characters that i have biases towards, i would prefer for their stories to be told through character stories, companion quests, texts, and readables. that way, you find out about the character on your own volition without it feeling forced. and, if their backstories are relevant to the main storyline, you can easily make it brief and showcase what's, well...
relevant.

Can't even lie, I really don't like the headcanon of Eggman being lonely, insecure, completely deeply miserable, etc. Sorry to those who do, I can respect that it's not for me and not bother you in your discussion of it. But it honestly just makes me really sad and uncomfortable to consider. Along with all the other angsty "Eggman is lonely and sad and miserable and insecure/has a tragic past" theories I always see. I just hope it never becomes the case in game canon
The games don't hint towards it currently. Not even in Frontiers like I see some say it does, as being jealous of Maria getting attention that he felt entitled to because of his ego and regarding it with more importance over her terminal illness and tragic death, is just him being the selfish bratty attention wh0re he's always been. Ian Flynn himself even said that he was a "biased narrator" on this. I really don't think it was implying that he was genuinely neglected or lonely at all.
I like that he actually LOVES being who he is and doing what he does. He gleefully acknowledges that he's evil and embraces it. You can see that he always has a blast doing his thing with his big smile and giddiness and the only time he's miserable is when he's defeated, but his determination to keep him trying comes from his passion more than hatred for his enemies, not just for accomplishing his dreams but also for the clear enjoyment he gets in the actual process too.
He's also genuinely self confident and loving too, as we know even when talking privately like the Egg Memos, he praises and regards himself just as highly as ever- it's not an act. That's why he feels the entire world belongs to him with so much certainty! Not everyone who has a big ego is trying to hide insecurities, it's never implied to be the case with Eggman in the games. And I think his self love can be inspiring in a way for that, even though it's to an egotistical degree XD
And I truly believe he likes being alone too, as it's not implied that he dislikes living alone and far away from all other human life- he seems very comfortable. He only lives around his own creations probably because he can make them into exactly who he wants them to be, control them in the ways he wants to control everyone else in the world someday, and they're always only created for the sake of evil and serving him- not for company. He doesn't express a need for that.
Plus I feel it's more accurate that he would see himself too superior for the close presence of others anyway and he wants to keep distance from those unworthy and below him aside from assistants. It actually seems that he is easily agitated within the province of others and has a very short temper around absolutely everyone, enemies, servants, those he teams up with and all and I LOVE that lol. And I can imagine that he prefers to be alone with his own brilliant mind and company.
I truly feel he only wants attention and worship from the whole world from afar, not a few people in close presence. Especially because if he had the latter, he'd surely say it wasn't enough. What he really wants is for the whole world to be under his control and for everyone to give him attention, praise, worship, and serve him in his glorious empire! Everyone and everything is below him for him to control, none are worthy of his close presence and couldn't meet his impossible standards.
He'll be the happiest that he can ever be if his dreams come true permanently but he clearly enjoys the process of wreaking havoc, destroying, manipulating, and scheming and the anticipation of success in itself too. I love how passionate he is about who he is, what he does, and what he wants and his self love and pride. It makes me really happy to see how happy he is and the idea of him secretly being lonely, miserable, and insecure is just very sad to me as a result.
But I see tons of things in the games that seem to point towards the opposite and that's one of the many things I adore about him 💜

Let's talk about Delly Cartwright.
Do you like her character?
What do you think about Katniss' description of her: "Delly Cartwright is a pasty-faced, lumpy girl with yellowish hair"
How did you feel about her exclusion from the movies?
What do you think happened to her after the war?
Do you have any fancast?
Any fanfic with Delly as main character or with her POV of the book events?
Thank you :D
@curiousnonny
Hi nonny, thank you for the question ❤️
Yes, I do like Delly's character. When I first read the book I saw Delly as a loyal friend. Although, I don't know why (I haven't read Mockingjay in years) I assumed that she and Peeta had grown apart somewhat some years ago and that her coming in to help him with his treatment was a sign of how decent and good she is because they weren't necessarily that close anymore. I honestly don't know where I got that impression from, but I like it.
I've always thought that Katniss's description of Delly comes from a place of distrust, self-hatred, and jealousy. I remember Katniss said that most people in D12 can't afford to eat enough to be considered overweight nor would the people in D12 look down on someone for that, they'd be jealous that person had enough money to do that. When Katniss calls her a lumpy, pasty-faced, girl with yellow hair she immediately calls her nice and friendly afterward as if to make up for her own nasty description to herself in her mind which, to me, implies guilt. It's giving "She's not even pretty!" to me. I also am fairly sure that Katniss was feeling sour because, although she didn't want to see Peeta, Peeta had made it clear he didn't want to see her at all during his visiting hours and would rather have Delly visit. So she was placing those emotions of anger at him and hatred at herself on Delly, which was totally unwarranted but understandable. In short, she was just being a mean teenage girl for a moment, but, her feelings were coming from an understandable place.
I hate that she was taken out of the movie, for the same reason that I hate that they took out Madge from the movies. I think that it flattens D12 and Peeta and Katniss as well. Taking out these small side characters means that the audience sees less of what D12 was like for regular people, sees less of the dynamics and pasts of the characters with other people, and just gets to know the main characters less. I understand the argument for how movies need to make cuts, focus on political commentary, etc. But Mockingjay was literally a two-part movie, come on. Plus, I might be biased, but I think the movie just made it seem like Peeta had no life to speak of before the games? Delly's existence is a link to his childhood. Also, it adds to the devastation and sadness of Mockingjay because she's his only surviving friend.
I do have a fancast, but it's not serious and I might change my mind later. For now, I kind of wish Nicola Coughlan played Delly although I'm still not convinced she looks like Delly to me, it's purely a vibes cast here.
I don't think I've ever read a Delly POV fanfic, but I think we see a lot of great Delly action in The Goodwife and the Grandmentor and in one more fic... I want to say Good Again? Or is it the Long Road? Idk, but I'm a sucker for Delly marrying someone from town and becoming a farmer, but I also love lesbian Delly who makes it in the big city, idk why.
Thanks for the ask @curiousnonny!

idk i definitely understand and support where you’re coming from with regards to battling fandom racism and making sure this isn’t a space where hatred can be fostered, but i’m just not seeing the rationale behind making a rather inflammatory post regarding an individual blogger who hasn’t even been super active in literal months. i am seriously coming at this with an open mindset and really trying to understand your points made in the post, and i’m coming in assuming you intended to make good faith arguments, but i feel as though i’m missing the overall point of the actual post— is it just meant to shine light in the supposed harm of girlgerard’s perceived large platform and the perception of the language they use regarding lynz? or is this meant to speak on fandom racism as a whole too? wouldn’t it be better, and certainly more conducive, to speak on broader fandom racism and bigotry as a whole, rather than one case study of a blogger who doesn’t have much skin in the game? a lot of blogs have been opening up some really important dialogue on this in the past few days regarding fandom racism by creating an opportunity for the reader themselves to grapple with their internal biases and actively fight them—not only in themselves but in the people around them. i am seriously not sending this as a gotcha or as an attack on you— not at all! i’m just wondering if this is a good way to make your points, especially seeing as your post didn’t seem to make the impact you wanted it to. i hope some part of my message spoke to you, and i appreciate the time it took to read my long winded restrospective on your post
Your response wasn't a retrospective more then you telling me I can't focus on a single issue, which is GG being okay with Lyn-z being racist as long as Gerard is happy.
I am allowed to say something like that because it's grounded in reality. Those posts were only from a few months ago. Girlgerard might not have much influence outside of tumblr, but she's popular enough that his more normal Gerard posts leak out to other websites. Plus the fact he and her fans have harassed people en-mass before, that it's warranted I call him out. Plush the audacity that she had to try and act progressive when every other fucking post is the most backwards shit i've ever seen.
GG isn't racist in belief and morals, he supports a racist in complacency. Which is being a bystander to racism. So she has no fucking right trying to act like an anti-racist.

3. Love will change the world
The Seeker and the mysterious Stranger (Part 3 of 7)
3. Love will change the world
Tumblr media
“Listen man, I want to be honest with you,” the Seeker says to the mysterious stranger. Both are sitting on their bench, deep in a forest.
“You know... I am tired... Utterly exhausted. Everyday, is a day of struggle. After every achievement, reality kicks in and I am crushed by Life. One challenge after the other. So many problems to fix, so many battles to win. Everything just seems... so shallow... so meaningless.
First you go to school, then perhaps higher education, get a job, get married, raise your children, climb the career ladder, then your children move out, then retirement and after couple of years you die lonely in a nursery home... And I ask myself, is that all that there is to Life? A constant struggle to fit in with the expectations of society? Why do I still get out of bed everyday?
Life has let me down, humanity has let me down. Whenever I read the news, I just get sad, angry or disgusted. Everyone knows how fucked up the world is... We are all aware of what's going on. All these terrible things happening... And I am just tired with it, that's all. Disappointed with life itself. And Yet, all I ever wanted is to be happy...”
The mysterious stranger looks at the Seeker with empathetic eyes.
“Let me ask you Seeker, if you had the power to change the world, what kind of world would you envision?”
“I don't know,” answers the Seeker, yawning. “Perhaps a world, that is peaceful, without any wars. Perhaps a world, free of environmental pollution. A world free of prejudices and biases of any kind. A world of joy and laughter. A world of bliss. A world of Freedom and unity. Where we share our food, instead of fighting over oil. I just want a world, where I can be myself without being judged or taken advantage of. A world, that allows me to be happy.”
“Let me tell you a secret,” the mysterious stranger grins. “Everyone dreams of such a world. Doesn't matter where they live, doesn't matter what they do. On the deepest level, this is what all of us actually want. Even those who are fully consumed by hatred... Even they long deep within, for such a world.”
Tumblr media
The Seeker scratches their forehead:
“But... If everyone supposedly dreams of such a society, then explain to me, why we are unable to change it.”
“That is a very long story,” the mysterious stranger smirks.
“I will tell it to you, when you visit my hut. But for a short answer: We don't change the world because we don't believe, that we can. We think it's impossible... Because this is all we ever knew. But what if I tell you, that there is a way? What if I tell you, that it is in fact possible. Close your eyes and imagine it. Can you see it? A world, where people are dancing on the street, singing a song of liberation. A world, where old enemies drink together as friends. Can you hear the song, that resounds deep within the heart of every human being? Can you feel it? The wind of change blowing into your face.”
The Seeker blows some air from their nose. “Tss... And how do you suppose, we achieve this? Through a revolution? We all know how well this worked out in the past... Or do you propose a reformation, a couple of social programs... You think, this will change the world?”
The mysterious stranger burst out in laughter:
“Certainly, this won't change anything. You can't fight violence with violence. You can't fight separation through further separation. No, you can't change the world through any ideologies or political action.
Now what is it in ourselves, that is needed most in these times? What is it, that can wipe away all of our tears, all of our suffering, our anguish and our hate... What is it, that can break the cycle of destruction? What is it, that can free us from the prison, that we ourselves have created?
The answer, my friend, is LOVE. LOVE will change this world. LOVE is a force that cannot be stopped. All shadows vanish, when you shine the light of love on it. You can't grasp it, it is neither yours or mine. LOVE is there for everyone and anyone. ”
“Love?!” The Seeker asks in disbelief. “This is like the most stereotypical answer you can give. How should love itself transform the world?”
“Well,” admits the mysterious stranger. “It's not that simple. You see, throughout the Ages, the meaning behind the word 'Love' was corrupted. Wrongly defined by many. We have lost it a long time ago. I say, it's about time, that we find it again. Love in its purest form. Once you have found it, you will understand. And you will see the power in it. You will see, the ripples that it sends out, from person to person.”
The Seeker shakes their head, laughing. “You are spouting nonsense. I have never before heard such bullshit in my life. It won't make any difference if a single person changes. The world will remain fucked up.”
The face of the mysterious stranger lights up in excitement:
“Don't you see it, my friend? Your influence on the collective is so much greater, than you can even imagine. Your thoughts, emotions, words and actions affect your entire sphere of influence, which is interconnected with the rest of the world. One light flaring up can suffice, to illuminate an entire room. LOVE may be hard to find, hard to see, as we are all so caught up in our prisons and illusions. But it just needs one person, to find true, unconditional Love... If one person changes their outlook on life; this will reflect on the collective consciousness. Change yourself and you change the world. For you are the world and the world is you.”
Tumblr media
“Utter bullshit,” the Seeker spouts.
“If I behave compassionate, someone else will take advantage of me. If I don't take what I want, someone else will take it. If I show weakness, I will lose. So why should I give up my sense of self, if this leads to regrets? Even if I were to 'transform' myself, there is always someone out there to hurt me. I have been hurt enough in my life to know, what humans are capable of.”
“Please tell me, dear Seeker,” the mysterious stranger asks in a serious tone. “Why are you so afraid of love?”

Love how when I start to feel bad about my plans to go low to no contact with my family they say horrible things about literally anyone that's not white, straight or cis and im reminded of why we planned to cut them off in the first place. Thanks for the reminders universe!

Do you think the cast of Three Houses is better received than previous installments? Edelgard von Hresvelg seems better received than Sumia was. Even Tokyo Mirage Sessions snubbed Sumia with Chrom, Caeda, and Virion being in the game instead of her. Everyone has preferences, but I was honestly surprised with Marth getting first place in CYL 5 than Gatekeeper getting #2. A good chunk of the CYL top 20 were Three Houses characters.
OK there's probably two parts to this.
Firstly is 3Hs cast overall better received that past installments and to that I'll say yes probably and part of that is 3Hs... portrays itself as "more serious" which to some people just translates to "better". Another reason is the fully voiced script gives the impression these characters are better written because we are getting not just the dialogue but the (very good) voice acting and good actors can elevate an otherwise mediocre script in ways you'd be very surprised.
Now I want to say I don't necessarily think the 3Hs characters are bad, but the idea that they are "deeper" and "less gimmicky" than say Fates or Awakening characters is.... just not true. Sylvain is no more "conplex" than Virion, they are both womanisers with tragic backstories although I'd agree (partly biased I'll admit) that Virions tragic backstory was handled better and wasn't just an "excuse" for his womanising ways. Both Dorothea and Charlotte are women who put on "acts" to try and secure a rich spouse in the hopes that it would mean financial security something they lacked growing up, sure Charlotte has the added "delicate flower front but could actually break you with one punch" and Dorothea has.... "hatred of Nobility" but I've talked before about how I don't actually think Dorothea is this deep character that she's portrayed as (and I like Dorothea... to an extent but she's not the greatest ever written character). Like 3Hs characters are still gimmicky just other aspects make it less obvious and because more people liked 3Hs story compared to Awakening or Fates they are more forgiving.
Now your second point about the CYH that... is mostly recency bias + 3Hs having brought in a bunch of new fans who had only played 3Hs so they of course were going to vote for the characters they knew. I think the real test will be to see which 3H characters consistently place high in years to come because once say a new game is released that's when we'll see which characters were actually genuinely popular and which ones were just "a phase".
Also regarding Sumia specifically, Sumia's been a polarising character in the fandom since Awakenings launch just because she "gets in the way" of a popular self insert ship whereas Woobigard IS the self insert ship. They can't be compared because Sumia was viewed by a large and vocal part of the fandom as being in opposition to the self insert which Woobigard is designed to pander to the self insert. A better comparison would maybe be Aqua and why she was never as popular as Woobigard (even before the translations about her and Corn being cousins came out) or even Corn themselves vs the Personified TV static that is Billy.
So yes I do think people are more lenient with the 3Hs cast than previous casts BUT ultimately people can like whatever they want but I do think some outside factors do help the 3Hs cast when compared to previous instalments.

"Needs to retire", "Can't hide your hatred" - Lots of Liverpool fans slam Sky Sports man
There has been no sluggish start to the season for Liverpool this campaign. Instead, they have hit the ground running.
After three games, they are the only side in the Premier League with a 100% record, with the latest win coming against Arsenal on Saturday.
The Reds beat the Gunners 3-1, Mohamed Salah’s second goal of the game being the stand-out moment. He took the ball from just inside the Emirates outfit’s half before calmly slotting past Bernd Leno in the Arsenal net.
Check out fan reaction to Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal in the video below…
Martin Tyler, however, did not seem too impressed, at least in the eyes of many Liverpool fans. He has in the past been accused of not liking the Merseyside club, and even had to come out last year and confirm he is not a Manchester United fan.
The Anfield faithful have been quick to slam Tyler for his commentary of the game, and they have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can see some of the best comments below.
Martin Tyler is so sick of seeing Liverpool win I think we’ll force him to retire soon. pic.twitter.com/NZ44DZS5vo

This commentary is pathetic – so boring. Get @Carra23 on the mic. I’d take “YOU LITTLE DANCER” over “ʰᵉ’ˢ ᶦⁿ ᵗʰᵉ ᵐᵒᵒᵈ” every day of the week. https://t.co/TnlREntjEX

I don’t watch matches on Sky anymore @SkySportsPL . why not get someone like @CliveTyldesley @PeterDrury_ commentate on Sky far better than that Boring Martin Tyler. bring a bit of excitement back to football.

Lol martin tyler..U really can’t hide ur hatred and bias towards Liverpool right..??? #ynwa https://t.co/fSthKXgY2Y
— amirulHAFIZ (@Whitezkingz) August 26, 2019
This is why you shouldn’t have 2 life-long Man Utd supporters in Martin Tyler and Gary Neville commentating on nearly every #LFC game. And people say Sky and BT are biased towards Liverpool, forgetting what has happened for the previous 20 years. https://t.co/C78dyCUBio

Man could hardly contain himself??
— LFC96 (@Liverpoolfan195) August 26, 2019
He really needs to retire

I’m so sick of Martin Tyler, the bias he has against Liverpool and for utd is shocking. Salah does that on Saturday and Tyler is barely audible, but a utd player passes the ball and he proper loses his head.
