What direction would you have enjoyed most for Thor and Loki after TDW?
I recall in the long dry years between TDW and TR, a large part of the conversation in the fandom around this topic was on how pissed off Thor would be when he learned that Loki hadn’t actually died and had kept that fact from him (or “faked his death,” however you wanna phrase it) and how much trust would have to be rebuilt. And there is definitely that aspect of it. I think there was trust that needed to be rebuilt on both sides, in fact, and many long-overdue conversations about everything that had gone wrong to get them to that point. Conversations about Loki’s ancestry and his miscalculation with the Destroyer and all the questions Thor didn’t ask when Loki reappeared and not visiting him in the cells and ancient resentments and so many other things.
But most of the fandom, in the discussions I’ve seen, seems to have been hoping for resolution between them, for things to get all healed and tied up in a tidy little bow and have their character arcs just ride off into the sunset and… yeah, I don’t want that. I never wanted that. There is way too much emphasis these days on “healthy” and “wholesome” and, goddamn, like what are y’all doing looking at these two if you’re looking for therapist-approved wellbeing? You’re digging in the wrong place. (Something that I feel is carried over from Norse mythology into their characters is the idea that there is value and importance in lives that don’t have a Happily Ever After, worlds ending in destruction and final defeat but with a deep integrity to what mattered. The world doesn’t promise healing. Sometimes, living with the knowledge that things will not be fixed in the end but it all matters anyway, and the connections between people matter, and the ability to find flickering moments of joy amidst the sorrows… to me that is far better, far more fitting to who they are than any tidy, happy resolution could ever be.)
One of the things that I love about many of their comics arcs is the sense that while things do change between them over time, with different emphases coming into focus and into prominence, there is an essence to both of them that keeps them in perpetual conflict and ALSO keeps the love strong enough that neither of them ever wants to go their separate ways permanently. They both have their own lives, with Thor doing his best at heroing and Loki doing his best at being himself, but Their Relationship is a constant, and it’s nobody else’s business, and whether they’re on opposite sides in their daily lives doesn’t really factor into it.
So basically, in my ideal world in which phase 3+ didn’t suck, TR would have involved some of those long-overdue conversations and some working together against a bigger bad, but the kiss-and-make-up would have been incomplete, like an unresolved chord at the end of a phrase of music. Loki would have disappeared again but this time making sure Thor knew he wasn’t dead, and he’d have popped up again from time to time, always with uncertain allegiances, to have a few poignant interactions with Thor, or to absolutely destroy some big bad that’s threatening Thor’s life but in the meantime doing something that makes it seem like he got some material gain out of doing so (just to keep everyone on their toes), and if anyone questions this in Thor’s presence you’d get a very stormy look and a subtle suggestion that he doesn’t have to be slumming it on Earth.
Loki would be there to be The Most Important Person in Thor’s life even when he’s not physically present, and the niggling itch that never quite goes away from the fact that things aren’t resolved and may be unresolvable. (Having a relationship like that—where it is possible or likely that things can’t be fixed—is actually really important to telling Thor stories that have emotional weight. Resolving the relationship or making the question null through death cuts off so many of the important questions that cling to Thor in themes and resonances. To a character who embodies the virtue of striving for heroism and goodness, an unquenchable love for such a liminal character as Loki, whose moral standing flits all across the field at any given moment, and having Thor see that not as a problem, as a liability or an inconsistency but instead as a value in itself—that keeps Thor from becoming an insufferable, inflexible moral pedant.) And Thor—Loki’s love and devotion to Thor, mingled with his resentment of him and the lingering frayed edges of his trust and the centuries-old anger and desire to win against him just once—would be there to rest like a base color underpainted beneath everything Loki does in his schemes and clever workings and, a gnarled anchor or a rusted root, keep him from wandering too far afield.
And, I mean, they’re gods. If you carry any story on long enough it ends in death, but in a story of superheroes and modern legends, the gods should still be there in the end, at the edge of the tale, perhaps, but continuing nonetheless, spinning against the stars, the huge half-invisible shadows of giants bordering the far horizon, the cycles of their lives so much longer than ours.

How do you think the other Masters feel about Alex and Fires?
as whole? finding it absolutely hilarious. Fires fussing around about a human? top tier comedy
(my mind goes to chapter 5 of the factory fic with the bat circus going on there and the varying reactions and mockery lmaooo)
Tumblr media
Beyond that its like.... defiently seen as a weakness of Fires, something that could be exploited against it. we know the bats are always looking for things to target the others with. Alex could def be in more danger from threats in the future (and then the others could learn what its like to deal with Alex lmao)
Individual opinions vary. Most of the bats do not know Alex very well. Hearts was espially amused at the end of the fic meeting Alex, could def see more interactions there later (it BIT him during an ES but im not sure if thats canon ajskdfkfkgkghj). Alex particularly disliked Pages at the end of that fic. Wines would probably just be critical over the dynamic knowing its opinions on relationships with humans. Iron probably would have more opinions on the relationship (its whole thing about not falling in love) but we really havent seen enough of it for me to expand on its opinions here. and then the rest is generally not really caring beyond being able to use the relationship against Fires is the general vibe for the rest.
Notably I suppose is Stones, who is another master Alex has considerable interactions with (see: frequently steals from it, technically he works for it, and also uhhhh knows some very personal stuff about it from Adornment). I think it in particular would take an antagonistic role towards Fires and Alex's relationship, especially considering the general rivalvry dynamic that exists between Stones and Fires. So while all the masters can def serve a threat at this point, Stones serves the most likely direct threat.

so the biggest thing in this whole fructose malabsorption thing I've been diagnosed with and trying to figure out is the fructose to glucose ratio in foods. apparently, when glucose is consumed at the same time as fructose, it increases fructose absorption. so total fructose content, while important, isn't as important as making sure more glucose is consumed than fructose.
which means.
that fucking BRUSSELS sprouts, the vegetable notorious for being bitter and gross, are on the list of things I have to be careful with, bc while they have negligible sugar, that sugar very slightly is more fructose than glucose.

friendly reminder!
given my jane does not date mike, and their relationship is only canon up until the end of season two: she reaches out to max on her own accord! i hate that they only became friends because jane was having boy troubles?? and in context i can kinda understand it because she doesn’t know who else to turn to, and it’s all still relatively new to her but…. no.
i do believe her snubbing max was very in character. she was confused; this random girl showed up, started hanging closely around the boy she thinks the world of. when she makes her big entrance into the byers’ to return to her friends and family, this random girl is also there. one girl amongst those boys, and she immediately thinks max is replacing her. but after the gate is closed, and the chaos of it all concludes, jane has some time to think about her feelings and place in the party. realising she is not in love with mike, she gives max another chance. i don’t think there would be much communication until what we see in season three because i believe all that is very important to her story. however, i believe they would know one another to a degree that when jane does reach out to her, it’s not awkward or out of the blue.
jane! approaches! max! at! the! snowball! she does not spend all her time with mike. she sees all her friends ( including jonathan and nancy ) and spends as much time as she can with each of them. and then after some time, she asks nancy to pour her two cups, and approaches max with one of them. she more or less shoves the drink under the girls face, trying to start a conversation though a little unsure how. they do get to know one another a bit there. it’s strained and somewhat odd, but it’s a start!
i also figure that when the party visits jane in the cabin ( because they all visit her. not just mike ) max might tag along a few times. probably with lucas. jane has no objection to this, and there they start kindling something akin to a friendship. jane, after some time, then approaches max because she wants to get to know her better. she straight out asks if she’d like to be proper friends, and it begins from there! also on this note, this all begins pre three, so they have some time to properly get to know one another before all the shit starts. also meaning they go to starcourt mall way earlier; always thought even just a month before the first episode begins. and because of that, jane goes to starcourt a few times on her own. because breaking the rules, makes her own rules behaviour. <3 and we are very aware she can catch a bus on her own!!
mind you, this is my canon default regarding their relationship, but to whoever writes as max, i do not expect you to change anything! although let it be known that i will not write jane going to max purely because she has boy troubles. because a. she isn’t even with mike as the show portrays thus making that storyline void in my canon. and b. it’s never sat right with me! i just think there could have been much better ways for them to begin their friendship as opposed to her wanting something.

3, 20, 25?
3- Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year?
it's Queen, and okay yes everyone knows queen, but i feel like this year i actually listened and particularly appreciated them more. i have the LP of a night at the opera and every single song on that album is imprinted in my soul it's sooooo good. i got another queen record recently so >:)))) i plan to one day get them all, or at least all the ones i like (which is probably gonna be all of them anyways lol)
20- what's something you learned this year?
someone told me this a few years ago, but this year especially is when it really sunk in for me: if you think you're really good at something (like in a hubris-y way specifically), you're not as good as you think you are, and if you think you're really bad at something, you're not as bad as you think you are.
i also learned from antigone funn and bijou from wooden overcoats that "you're out there, being you, in front of other people!" "that matters to you?" that matters. your heroes may seem perfect and graceful and put together, but they're people just like you and just like you, they get nervous and have their own insecurities. you are your own worse critic, and that also applies to the "best of the best" too. and here's the thing, no matter how good or bad ANYONE thinks they are at their craft, it matters to somebody out there. maybe it's just you, and maybe it's someone in a crowd you'll never meet, or maybe it's someone long long after you're dead. but what we do matters.
25- did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? describe one.
sadly i did not :/ i can tell you a bit about my oc renata though (in the tags)
#behold an ask!#IM SO SORRY IT TOOK ME LIKE A WEEK TO ANSWER THIS#prapuna#okay so my oc renata basically spawned bc one day i was like what if immense romantic tragedy#so the general gist of their story is: once upon a time there was this mercenary (who had a lot of magical power) and they were hired to#infiltrate a kingdom and so they got hired as a guard to the princess#but whoops after a WHILE of being near the princess the two of them fell in love and it's really cute but sad#because the princess is being married off to this guy#and so the night before the wedding renata (mercenary) and zarita (the princess) are trying to figure out what to do#and they fight and they don't really come to a solution#zarita talks to the guy she's being married to and they do try to work something out#but the next morning he's found dead- murdered#renata got desperate and killed him#so now. whoops but it gets WORSE bc this guy was like a Chosen One by the gods#he was destined to do Something that changed the course of humanity but renata somehow for in the way of fate?? and fucking killed him#and the gods are PISSED#since his death is technically renata and zarita's fault the gods punish them to eternal rebirth#and renata is cursed to remember everything perfectly#EVERYTHING from that point forward EXCEPT her original life#that is normal memory which means over time it fades and changes and all the shit that happens to memories when time passes#and as they go through the years renata's power (which was already considerable) grows and grows#and eventually they really fucking lose their mind solipsism-style#and they become corrupted and do murder and shit and zarita may not remmeber but they always love renata#inexplicably. even though sometimes renata is a horrible fucking person they still see the good in them and the positive qualities#that made them fall in love in the first place#oh yeah and as soon as zarita Remembers renata and their whole history they're doomed to a tragic death#yeah. can you tell i was deep in quarantine when i came up with them. anyways#they (renata) weren't inspired by scarlet witch but their magic IS red and i always liked the concept of scarlet witch from the comics#losing her mind and her grasp on reality#but i only realized the similarities after i made them lolol

i finished the prologue for ethersea . it was very very interesting and i think the commitment to the worldbuilding so far is very refreshing and exciting for the prospect of the actual content of the campaign. im even more excited to see what's up
also, idk how to explain this properly, but as someone coming straight off of balance the thing that i find most enjoyable so far is the way they all collaborate with eachother so effectively - i love griffins storytelling in balance but he definitely had a degree of creative control far above the players, and seeing everyone build the world on equal footing with equal investment is both extremely exciting and also just makes me really happy. like they all super care about this world already

i started my tmnt12 rewatch back in like june? july? and i started watching it with the spanish dub bc i was preparing for entrance exams back then, one of which was spanish, and i would write down new words from the episodes and stuff. fast forward to november, i sadly had to give up on majoring in spanish (i did so well on the exam too which just makes this double sad but thats a whole other story) and went back to suffer in the english department and im picking back up tmnt12 and deciding to keep watching in spanish to “keep my skills sharp”. well it turns out. i am not that great at spanish anymore so its quite an experience

TL;DR: Steam just made library sharing so much fucking easier and so much fucking better. Instead of login-trading, it's just a simple goddamn invite.
Read this. Really. It's a good read. Because it shows that, full-stop, Valve isn't just doubling down on their stance to make sure that people can and should be able to share their copies of digital goods as easily as they can physical ones, but they're making it better and easier than ever.
But you know how Steam allowed you to, with either friends or family, link accounts with another person to be able to establish an ability to share game libraries with one another? The general gist of Steam Family Sharing was that, with a limit of five people plus you (six in total) on a limit of ten computers total could share account access to willingly mix your libraries. You could play theirs. They could play yours.
This was a huge boon. It was meant to emulate sharing a physical copy of a game. A way to allow children to play games their parents or siblings had bought without having to fork over double the cash to buy it a second game. But it had some major limitations and drawbacks, and was archaic to use.
If a person did not share the same computer, you had to manually log into that computer to give it and the accounts on it access. This wouldn't be a problem if both accounts were used on the same computer, but many households (and astronomically more family and friend groups) had multiple computers, all used by different people.
If that computer, at any point, was hard reset to any point before the sharing occurred, you lost access. And had to do the whole process again. This was also an issue with computer transfers. The whole kit and kaboodle needed to be redone on upgrades. On top of that, the old computer is now just dead weight that you may not realize you have to manually revoke access to.
Putting your account information on another person's computer opens up security issues. They could, intentionally or accidentally, land themselves on your account if the login information was stored. Which could easily lead to purchases or bans you did not want to happen.
If anyone was, at any point, playing any game on their own library, you had no access to their games. Even if it was a totally different game, you had to wait your turn as if waiting for their computer to be freed up to sit at. (Admittedly this is kind of like the "mom said it's my turn on the xbox" meme, but hey, kinda archaic.)
You could not choose whose library you accessed a game from. Not at all. It always prioritized the first library it gained access from, DLC access and multiplayer be damned. If another friend you were accepting games from had more DLC? Too bad.
And yet here we are. Steam Families Beta fixes EVERYTHING about the above issues. By just going through Settings > Interface > client Beta Participation and clicking onto Steam Families Beta? You get:
No more login sharing. No more computer links. You can now choose which person's library you borrowed from. And you can play any other game from someone's library, even while they're in-game. It just needs to be a different game than what they're playing.
Pick five people. Invite them to your family. And now everyone has access to everyone's library. My goddamn library went from 150-ish to almost a goddamn thousand in ten minutes of setup.
Account sharing and password sharing are dirty words that "lose" billions of dollars. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Max. They aren't game storefronts, but they still allow you to access massive libraries and scream like you murdered their firstborns for daring to share your password with your mother after you moved out.
Microsoft tried pushing to demonize and undercut used games sales and borrowed copies of physical games. Remember the first attempt to reveal the Xbox One? People forget, but these vultures tried to make an always online console that checked to see if you were the account that owned the game, even if you had a physical disc, and prevent access to the disc's contents if you weren't the original downloader.
Valve walked the fuck up. Valve tapped the mic. And Valve dropped the fucking thing right onto the ground with one feature's revamp.
About the only issues I can see with this are twofold:
If someone sharing your library gets banned from a game's servers... so do you. No one else in the family does, but the both of you do. This is... rather unpleasant, because banhammers can be dropped quite frequently by mistake. I'd urge Valve to rethink this one, but I see the logic: don't cheat and effectively bite the hand feeding you. Still making me side-eye that, though.
If you leave a family you've joined? You have to wait a YEAR to join a new one. It's to prevent people form jumping ship to another group and screwing over who's in the former one in the process, but a YEAR? OUCH.
Problems aside, though... it's probably the biggest fucking power move I have ever seen a media distributor make in the current economic climate. It's the kind of thing that would let so many new games be available in a way that's easier than ever. Just a few clicks to send or accept an invite, and bam. Permanent access to dozens or even hundreds of new games with so much more freedom than earlier drafts of the system.
It's the kind of thing that slaps you in the face with positivity after so many Ls from the games and media industries. And I'm all the fuck for a W like this.

Prompt 100
“What are you, a Kent?”
It’s a saying in the world of the supernatural. A well-known one even. See, several, many generations back, no one quite knows when, the Kent family managed to run afoul of a particularly nasty creature who laid a curse upon them. The original wording, no one quite knows either, but the gist, everyone is aware of. For no firstborns will be born to them before they already have one.
It was supposed to be airtight in a way, a curse that would end the entire bloodline really. For a child to exist before they could have a child? How could that be?
Well. That curse had… backfired. It had backfired massively. Most, at least back when blood was everything, didn’t exactly ponder things like adoption to those outside of their own bloodline. The Kents however, lived in a very simple village, one that had disease spread through it often back then, leaving families childless and children parentless.
What were they to do but take them in? And so they had a son, many sons and daughters even, before their firstborn. Now of course, most would simply dismiss it afterwards. After all, that was the end of the story, isn’t it?
Well, no. See, the curse was a family-line curse, a just in case perhaps, that meant that each generation could not have any children until they had children. Perhaps it should have ended there, but well. It didn’t.
Kents are a strange breed in the world of the supernatural, known for having a… bit of an adoption problem. If any child or babe were to be left near their land, one can be assured the family line would take them in as their own.
Fae, demon, human, changeling, satyr, cyclops, half-breeds, werewolf- it didn’t matter. A Kent would gladly pick the child up and raise it as their own. And now, they could add aliens to that long, long list in the family line.
And really, perhaps with this context, is it really surprising that when one Clark Kent, said alien, opens his door to a basket on his doorstep holding a trio of godlings, he takes them in with no questions asked?

Bill Criminalizing Librarians Revived - again.
April 21, 2023: After the sound defeat of language calling for felony charges against librarians and educators in SB 12 and SB 380 earlier in April, the Indiana legislature is once more considering criminalizing librarians and educators for the materials on their shelves.
Here's the Indiana Capital Chronicle on the situation:
The legislators themselves don't know yet what bill the language will be slipped into, but we expect they'll hear it next week, possibly as early as Monday, April 24.
What To Do:
They're moving fast, so if you live in Indiana and feel strongly about libraries and censorship, please call your reps and senators NOW. Even if you already contacted them earlier this session!
Here's how to find and contact your legislators: https://iga.in.gov/legislative/find-legislators/
Here are some talking points and the general gist of our concerns:
Charging librarians and educators with felonies is not an appropriate response to the issue of challenging books.
It is a librarian or educator’s job to ensure that children have access to a range of well-reviewed quality books. They are trained and follow objective processes for material selection.
Libraries and schools already have processes in place for challenging books on their shelves, and these processes work.
And here's our own webpage where you can catch up on the situation and stay updated: https://www.lcplin.org/billupdates
If you don't live in Indiana:
Please do not contact the Indiana legislature about this! Instead, you can just hit that reblog button and help us reach as many people as possible.
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support of libraries and librarians!!
EDIT: This version has been getting notes lately - please see the final update from 4/28/23 to see how everything resolved. (It was a bit of a mixed bag.) Thank you!

okay so in phil's defense i think one reason he -appears- to 'space out' when dan is talking is bc he and dan know almost everything about each other! so when dan shares, for example, his take on secrets and whether people in general are good secret keepers -- phil already knows how dan feels and has heard his take
so it's not that phil doesn't care to listen to dan (bc he does! that's his best friend/soulmate after all), it's just that phil has Heard This One Before, Possibly Multiple Times, so he (it appears to me) is like oh okay it's not super duper necessary that i pay attention to every word -- bc he already knows the gist of what dan's saying about this particular topic bc he's told phil this before.
but when dan is telling us the viewers The Thing he might take some time to say it accurately -- bc as we know, dan likes to be very intentional with his words.
and so we get the dan-yapping phil-space-out-stare
