Today I saw a discussion on the topic of which enstars unit's choreography is the simplest. And I saw the opinion that UNDEAD practically doesn't dance on stage, but "stand and kiss with a microphone" (it's true lmao).

and it made me think about how unique UNDEAD is in its concept.

That's what I mean. We have an official UNDEAD concept: "radical and immoral monsters of the night." But there is something else. At the beginning of the main story of the "music!!" version, we are told that UNDEAD specialize in strong fanservice. And the fanservice is really vigorous and highly concentrated. That is, when units say something like "we love you, everyone!" UNDEAD say "I love you, my lady", simultaneously casting languid glances into the hall and smiling seductively.

(It's worth noting that I'm talking about the fans inside the enstars universe. Although there are many groups in the real world that also use this technique).

You know, when you come to a museum to look at works of art, and one of the beautiful sculptures starts talking to you about love.

UNDEAD'S idea is not to make you feel involved in the fandom, UNDEAD'S idea is for their fans to purposefully indulge in romantic fantasies with attractive bishounens. So that an individual fan feels special, so that they feels that absolutely all the band members are in love with them. So that it would be like in romantic movies, when a celebrity confesses his love to you from the stage in front of the whole audience, it's like otome games or reverse harem anime, this is when you are an ordinary unremarkable Bella Swan, whom an attractive hundred-year-old vampire falls in love with, and these fantasies are supported from the outside.

And with such a concept, dancing is not required. What matters is what glances you throw into the audience and how suggestive things you languidly whisper into the microphone, making other people think that they are the only and special ones.

When other units prefer a balance between interaction with the audience and stage activities (and Valkyrie generally ignore working with the audience), UNDEAD LITERALLY TURNED THEIR STAGE ACTIVITIES INTO FLIRTING WITH FANS.

Thanks to this, you can immerse yourself in a sweet romantic dream about you and a handsome celebrity guy from a gothic fantasy setting. How can it be unpleasant? :)

The Murderbot Diaries is a series of books about a human-bot construct that was designed to essentially exist as an enslaved security guard / piece of sentient spyware. It's like if Alexa had half a human brain and a gun. We're introduced to Murderbot (the murder alexa) roughly 3 years after it's hacked the piece of hardware in it's brain that forces it to obey commands. In those 3 years it hasn't changed much about it's life except now while working as a subhuman slave it watches tv when no one is paying attention. As a series TMBD largely is about themes of personhood and discovering yourself when you have largely spent your life being denied the right to a sense of self. They also don't shy away from addressing the trauma that Murderbot has experienced from having it's autonomy stripped of it for most of it's life, with the second novella and most recent novel most heavily featuring that as an element. (Although that is a core aspect of Murderbot's character that informs its decisions throughout the entire series).

Murderbot as a character is bitingly sarcastic and witty, deeply paranoid and ultimately filled with the constant low level anxiety it doesn't know what it's doing (not necessarily moment by moment but overall, with it's freedom, with it's life). It's an excellent unreliable narrator because it only tells you exactly what it thinks is important in a scenario, relationships between other characters, physical features of itself and the people around it, it's own emotions and reactions often being completely brushed over with only occasional clues, and often outright misinterpreting people's actions, most often it's own. It has this ever present self loathing in the first several books where it constantly explains it's actions away in the least charitable interpretation possible even though we see time and time again that at it's core it deeply wants to help and protect the people around it. And we see over the course of the books as it starts learning how to make choices for itself and interacting with people who treat it with respect and develops a support system as it starts to move away from that mindset (with the exception of the most recent book but to be fair to MB System Collapse is about it being forced to confront it's PTSD and it's backsliding alot from recently being thrown back into a situation from its worst nightmares). I said before its a human-bot construct to explain that it isn't purely an inorganic being but Murderbot is a deeply inhuman character and openly has no desire to be human, and it's perspective as something that is made to be a security system and enmesh into both digital and hardwired surveillance is fascinating to read. As you know I deeply deeply love robots, they're my favorite kind of 'inhuman but still a Person' kind of character and Murderbot perfectly strikes the balance between a starkly in human way of thinking and deeply relatable emotions that draws me to robots as a whole, especially as an autistic person (and Murderbot was intentionally written with autistic traits but in a subversion of the typical ableist depiction of autistic robots so that EXTRA rings true lmao)

seeing as you mentioned it I will also explain ART as a character, ART is one of the reoccurring characters in the series (the first 3 novellas all have completely different casts outside of Murderbot itself as it hops from place to place trying to decide what it wants and who it is before in the fourth novella and beyond bringing back in previous characters and having them start to overlap throughout the rest of the series). It was introduced in the second book and is arguably the character that has the greatest impact on Murderbot as a person although I say arguably bc I would personally still say that's Mensah. Unarguably tho it is one of the most important people in Murderbot's life and has been described multiple times now by the author as the love of its life (although not necessarily in a romantic sense as Murderbot is both within text and confirmed via word of god acearo). ART (Asshole Research Transport) also known as the Perihelion (although not until the 5th book/first novel bc Murderbot doesn't bother to tell tell the readers its name until then, instead deciding its a dick so its gonna exclusively call it by an insult) is a spaceship's pilot AI, made to be sentient instead of the usual smart GPS as an experiment by the university is was made by. It was raised like a child by a pair of scientists who are now part of its crew (along with its sibling Iris) and now is a teaching vessel for students learning about deep space and also anticorporate espionage worker (don't worry about it). It's a giant pushy asshole unless you're a child (the only character we've ever seen it meet on screen it didn't in some way immediately threaten was a 16 yo). It can't watch tv without having to pause at the suspenseful bits to calm down. We're introduced to it by it threatening to melt Murderbot's mind and then pouting when it's scared shitless. It then a month later asks to do surgery on it. It fully intends to blow up a planet to get Murderbot back from a group of colonists that captured it until someone talks it out of it because that isn't effective hostage negotiation.

So cheerful as you played with the children approaching you. No wonder his brothers and other people had such a liking and attraction towards you.

× the way you laughed but still respected him as the great mammon made a tug on his heart. Clenching on his chest as he thought about you. Whenever he goes shopping and sees something you like, he imagines how happy you would be. Then poof, he suddenly bought it.

$ blushing furiously as he just shoves the gift into your arms and says, "You're w- welcome!" And just walks away. But you can feel the stare burning a hole through your back behind a wall as you open it. Chuckling as you hugged the gift onto your chest. Keeping it near your heart as you smiled. Suddenly, his heart suddenly goes wild! And as he clutched onto his chest, he looks away and blushes.

$ now he buys you gifts every time he goes shopping. Small, big, cute, fancy, you always seem to appreciate it. Praising him and thanking him every time. He sometimes pouts when you hang out with some weak old demon. He's the avatar of greed?! Why hang out with them?!

$ but every time you ask him if he wants to hang out with you and watch your fireworks, always forget about it and willingly follow you. Sitting on the grass, he smiles when you light up a firework and see the usual big warm grin as you run to him and carelessly flop down and wait.

× his heart softly bounded against his chest lately. Did you put a spell on him? He grumbles for the whole day but soon lit up like a cat who sees their favorite person with a treat when he sees you. As soon as he realized, he blushed and quickly walked away. Leaving you behind cunfused.

🔥 this feeling felt painful, torturing, but felt so good. But it felt way worse when he wasn't with you for a while. And even WORSER when he sees you with some random demon. He just felt like ripping that demon to shreds, making them regret and wish they were dead.

🔥He starts to miss you, slightly pouting a bit. But he heard a meow outside his door, checking on it he sees you holding a cat as you have fireworks in a bag.

🔥 he happily held the cat in his arms as he excitedly followed you. Standing under a tree, he watches the fireworks with you. Leaning softly over to your shoulder. And he even invited himself to lay his head on your lap when you let him!

we talk a lot on this blog about the funny or nice parts of being plural, but there's also a lot of bad shit that can come with it. it's not all good, just like it's not all bad. it just is! sometimes, seeing posts like this makes us feel a little better, knowing we aren't alone in these struggles and seeing other people who have come through it, so, here's this

-) developing an addiction/dependency that everyone has to manage, due to one headmate's actions

-) trying to collectively recover from addiction when not everyone wants to, and some headmates actively working against the progress and goals

-) more specifically, having to maintain a clean streak for everyone, not just one individual. not just yourself. we have an agreement- we stick together with this stuff

-) headmates who actively dislike people we know, and generally collectively like, and having to manage and ignore secondhand emotions towards those people when the headmates in question are around (not to say, ignoring how those headmates feel about people, but moreso not letting the emotions bleed through into our own interactions)

-) panicking because your job directly relates to helping other headmates, and despite your best efforts, things keep getting worse (not directly applicable to me who is writing this -host)

-) fighting. constant fighting. i can't think of a day since our syscovery that there hasn't been some sort of fight, argument, breakdown, violence, some sort of incident internally

-) so many headmates with so much exotrauma. some of their triggers have bled into our collective triggers, and holy shit is it hard to explain thost to people who don't understand exomemories, or even who don't know about the system

-) having to watch littles who are far too young for any of this experience this whole ordeal

-) "Atlantis" by Seafret. it's about an extremely different topic, but the lyrics hit home. "i can't save us, my atlantis, we fall. we built this town on shaky ground." because holy fuck, it feels that way sometimes

several of these things are now managed, several are not. being human is a weird, messy, fucked up experience, and when you shove a bunch of consciousnesses into one human body, it gets even more convoluted

whoever you are, whatever reason you might have for reading this: i love you. you are not alone in your struggles. you have support from so many places, and you will get through whatever you're currently experiencing, be it so simple as your favourite pencil breaking, all the way to personal tragedy. you are loved

With Jun I can totally see mengtao taking up a part time job at the library she works at for no other reason than wanting to read books about mortal plant life, that means she actually tends to slack at her job or stay way to long because she is just so hyper focused on studying (also because she is kinda homeless and likes to stay somewhere to hide from the scary outside world-)

Daiyu: I had to add this one I'm sorry I can only picture her scaring the living daylight out of mengtao- the only reason she doesn't run screaming for the hills immediately is because they share a love of plants and she will throw away any anxiety if that means she gets to info dump about her hyperfixation

And she is just like "I'll quietly tolerate your existence because you know plant trivia"

Ling: For her I would say she looks up to her because she sees her as really strong and cool, a person she would never dare dreaming of being. With the possibility of it turning into a cute crush because she is a bisexual mess thank you very much.

Here its also straightforward, nezha dragged mengtao over to make friends, so she made herself mengtaos friend.

Pianoman:

-Definitely at first teased you sometimes. You reminded him of Chuuya so much, and he loved seeing you get ticked off by his teasing

-He admires how strong and tough you were. Life in the Mafia was hard, and only the strong and the cunning could survive. Pianoman would still want to protect you, however he's glad knowing that you could defend yourself

-However, deeper into the relationship, you revealed yourself to be quite the opposite than what you acted like on the outside. At first Pianoman was kind of shocked at how soft you were towards him

-But he quickly grows to love your soft side. He even teases you sometimes, saying 'Do I have a special spot in your heart?' but he still loves you all the same

-Pianoman is happy to do all the talking for you, because what kind of a leader is he if he isn't good at talking? His social skills are quite good, so you don't have to worry about messing any interaction up

-He loves how your soft side is reserved to him and him only

Albatross:

-You thought that Pianoman's teasing was bad? Well, Albatross is the king of teasing

-Literally a day cannot go by without you two having a banter of some sort. Albatross loves how similar you were to Chuuya, and he pretty much has a lot of experience teasing Chuuya to know what would set you off

-He works well with you in missions, whether it be fighting or negotiating. Albatross admires how great you are at fighting on the field. Brags about how strong his S/O is to the Flags

-But when you showed your soft side? Ohoho, be prepared for more teasing. Albatross would tone it down though, because he loves your soft side a lot

-Social skills? He’s quite the energetic one, and is perfectly happy to do all the talking

-Calls you a lot of affectionate nicknames like ‘Cutie’ and ‘Softie’. You get back at him by calling him ‘Bird’

-In the rare moments when Albatross is finally tired, he would show his softer side to you too. And it’s these moments when the soft couple vibes are 💖💖💖

-Loves your fierce and strong personality. Because he isn’t as physically strong as the other members of the Flags, he’s a bit relieved that you could defend yourself

-I feel like he would tease you slightly at first, just to rile you up a little, but afterwards he would be chill. Teaches you all about the human body to aid you in your missions

-But your soft side??? Totally was not expecting that. He literally thought that someone hit you in the head lol. But Doc’s not complaining, because he loves loves LOVES how soft you are around him in private

-Look after him, because his health isn’t that great. He secretly likes being looked after by you, even when he acts like he’s fine and could take care of himself Doc just say that you want them to take care of you lmao

-I feel like Doc’s social skills are alright? Disregarding his... morbid fascinations, he’s pretty good at getting the point straight across. He secretly doesn’t like talking a lot because social interaction is just ew, but he would gladly talk for you

-Hug him and cuddle him! He’s touch-starved, and there’s nothing more that he loves than your soft side

Iceman:

-A cold-blooded person who also is soft and kind on the inside

-Iceman didn’t really mind your tough and strong personality, because he’s met a lot of mafiosos who were like that and he has to deal with Chuuya everyday. He still thinks that you’re cool, and would not hesitate to protect you even though you could defend yourself

-Didn’t really show much of a reaction when you revealed your soft side to him, but he secretly melts a little on the inside. Iceman is glad that you trusted him enough to be vulnerable around him

-Definitely shows you his soft side too. It’s canon that he’s a kind person, and he will definitely perform acts of service for you. Brews you coffee, makes you food, comforts you when you’re upset, just basically a lot of heart-warming affection

-Iceman isn’t one to talk, but he’s perfectly fine talking for you. But he prefers staying in silence more because silence speaks louder than words to him

-In his soft moments, he’ll cuddle and hug you on the coach, you leaning against his chest while listening to his slow and steady heartbeat. Sometimes he might even incorporate a kiss on your forehead or two

Lippmann:

-I think he treated you the same as Chuuya at first; polite and friendly

-When he gets more comfortable around you, you bet he’ll tease you quite a bit. It’s more of a gentle teasing though, because Lippmann doesn’t like going overboard and making you mad/upset

-Really admires your strength. I feel like Lippmann respects people who could defend themselves and put up a good fight for their opponent, and the fact that you’re his S/O just makes him admire you more

-Was kind of shocked when you revealed your soft side. Lippmann doesn’t seem like the type of person to expect a lot of change at once, so he first thought that you were putting up an act to impress him with your acting skills. He was relieved when you told him it was genuine

-Now that he has seen your soft side, he is going to be 100x more softer around you. Like giving you gentle and delicate kisses, complimenting you everywhere, just affection in general. Might even flirt with you sometimes, but his flirting makes you flustered because of the elegance in his words

-Not gonna lie he was kind of scared of your personality at the start

-He would still teach you self-defence and combat skills though, because being a spy is a very dangerous job. Even when you could hold your own in battle, you could never be too careful

-But when you revealed your soft side to him? Rimbaud immediately transforms from ‘protected’ into ‘must-protect’. He can’t bear the thought of losing you, because he’s lost too many people already :(

-Soft couple! Soft couple! Need I say any less? The vibes have gotten even more cuter 💗

-If Rimbaud would walk through any hell for Verlaine, then he would go through much worse for you. Your soft side is a treasure, one that he cherishes and reciprocates, and he would do anything to keep you safe and happy

-Free time is normally spent cuddling each other on the couch in comfortable silence 💜

Verlaine:

-He didn’t really mind your tough personality at first; what can I say, he just doesn’t judge too much on personalities

-However Verlaine also likes how you strong you were. Even though you could be easily ticked off and sometimes rushed into things without thinking it through, he doesn’t have to worry about you not being able to fight for yourself

-Despite the difference in personalities, you actually respect and tolerate him. Probably because Verlaine himself is really strong, and he doesn’t tease you as much as other people (*cough* Dazai)

-But when you showed your soft side to him... Verlaine was not really expecting it. He teases you a little while smiling, but he is secretly glad that he gets to experience this side of you. Is more affectionate and softer towards you now

-He does have good social skills due to his job of being a spy and an assassin (Loid and Yor’s lovechild- jk) so Verlaine is able to negotiate and lead a conversation smoothly. His elegant voice just makes everything better

-Expect some light-hearted teasing once in a while, but Verlaine still loves you, regardless of which personality you have

Conclusion: yep. This got me in the heart, even if it isn’t the show itself. Still stuff that bothered me. But overall, this series of movies is not so bad. Not so great, at times, but not so bad. Honestly, I think they did the best they could and that’s really all I could ask for. And it was nice seeing them all in live action. For this movie, an 8/10. For the series of movies? 6.5/10. Not remotely comparable to the original series, but still a worthwhile watch and something I’d recommend if you want a recap of the series but don’t have time to watch it all again.

ok I am dying to talk about the ideas I have for companion drones so I’m just gonna babble like an idiot before I go to bed

So they mainly exist as their own thing outside of Murder Drones, but they can interact within that universe as a rival company product lol

Their tech is more advanced and developed than JCJ’s worker drones, giving them more of a human look (though they do still have the visor face cuz I just think that’s adorably peak design)

Like, y’all have seen how I draw Tori now yeah? She doesn’t have the differently colored arms and such anymore and seems more anatomically correct, a bit more advanced in design, because she’s a Companion Drone (and the catalyst to this entire idea really lmao)

Anyway, they’re made to order, meaning they can have different attachments and even entire bodies depending on what the client wants. For work related drones, they can be modified specifically for the job they’re assigned to. Some could have tools built in, others made to withstand something a human couldn’t and so on. Think worker drone but. Not frail and easy to destroy lol.

They’re also 100% sentient and autonomous, they have feelings and opinions and such. I also have it set in a pretty optimistic world where it’s generally frowned upon to treat one poorly. Some are designed for jobs but they’re still friends.

Then other types of companion drones that are like, ‘true’ drones are like Tori. Sort of. Tori is an exception that I won’t explain here.

They can be customized to be a perfect companion for anyone and they’re generally affordable too! They can even just be like, robot dogs or cats (they don’t have human level sentience though, that would be weird. They’re just robot animals.)

That’s kinda all I got rn, I’m working on visual references for my ideas but I’m optimistic about the potential for this.

so i think most people who are anti foah on here (including any discussion of noah and finn at all, even their work together) are not worried about us speculating on like whether there's feelings involved - because you can be attracted to someone or acknowledge their beauty without feelings - but rather they think that discussing them at all is almost like... i dont know, gossiping? or talking behind someone's back?

like, especially portraying a romantic relationship on screen, it would be very childish to still act disgusted by a co-star just to stop people around you saying 'ooooooh'... wouldnt it? unless you are genuinely repulsed by someone, once you become an adult you typically dont act that way. you get to an age where you can straight up say 'yeah, that person is beautiful' or attractive or what not, and you can say that about friends too, without anyone thinking you are falling in love with them.

i really remember the harry potter cast doing this and it was such a joy to see them grow up and acknowledge these things rather than just blush in interviews and pretend they never had crushes on each other.

or if you genuinely are repulsed by someone, you would deal with that in a mature way. especially if you were working professionally - i mean youre doing a job, but that still involves emotion and both disgust and attraction could be part of that.

i know the duffers hammed up the kiss between finn and millie, but hopefully that was cos they were kids (i didnt love that they did that, though we will never have full context), and hopefully for byler everything would be treated with respect. that also doesnt mean you totally lose the excitement and juice - love and attraction turns people of all ages into puddles - but rather that it is also still just a scene, and treated like any other scene, in service to the story.

for example, why is it taboo for an actor to be totally into a love scene, but not totally excited and joyful doing a scene on a ferris wheel or biking down a hill? why is there shame in the natural emotive expression, even when performing? and why is there shame in us discussing or anticipating that? we are essentially being spectators of the joy of human emotion - its why people love stories. stories are designed to make us think these people are real. why are characters, intrinsically, any different to real people in terms of the way we interact with them?

is it because they cannot be touched by us and we cant hurt them?

yes. but that leads us back to the nuance of shipping two irl actors and discussing human behaviour. this blog is unlikely to reach finn or noah. we are discussing them in relation to mike and will, not paparazzi'ing them outside their homes. this isn't a tabloid. its a tumblr blog.

maybe there are some people who edit together miniscule interview moments and invent fictions between real people. but again thats very different to just picking up on human behaviour and discussing it, as two people would over dinner, when they realise their mutual friends have got a thing going on.

i also think noah being gay brings a lot of discomfort to people because there is not even that plausible deniability of he and finn just doing a job. but like, he might he enjoy it? but so might finn? if they do, why is that bad? why can't they be professional AND enjoy it? just like they would filming a scene biking down a hill?

so my point is that people who are anti foah seem to be anti any discussion of finn and noah, even re: their work. they somehow can't separate this kind of discussion about creating art and being human from the juvenile idea of harassing two actors, despite the time-honoured human enjoyment of talking about other humans.

and re: finn's sexuality, the most common poll answer is... i dont have enough info to speculate. WELL DUH. thats why its called speculation? if you had enough info, you would have a solid answer lmao! its like byler evidence all over again. thousands of pages of tiny things that could be evidence, when all you need is one solid reason why they'll have a romance, like the way they look at each other, or, i dont know, the narrative itself?

I think it works really well, especially as alt! Cesar's hatred and fixation on Mark in Part 6 does becomes grief and emptiness the moment Mark dies in front of it. That whole interaction really affects alt!Cesar, because it teaches it how anger and revenge isn't fulfilling. Once the goal is achieved there is nothing left.

Alt!Cesar very quickly realises that hurting Mark wasn't something it wanted. It never wanted that. But it took Mark getting severely hurt to give it that clarity.

Mark's death greatly impacts and affects it in a way it never thought would happen. It thought it would be whole again, but seeing Mark lying there, watching him die... it only breaks him all the more.

What DO the public masses and the government think and do about Ingo now? Please tell me they are told the truth the sheer hilarity would be incredible. Would Ingo be considered his brother's age or three years old.

...Would Ingo have any problems interacting with people, considering he never really interacted with anyone outside of Emmet in his formative years and he lived on a mountain for the first 3 years of his life? That can't have been good for his development. Even when he did talk to people he just needed to act like Emmet and now he needs to be his own person (yay! But that seems like it would seem terrifying at first.).

OOH how do the depot agents react? They already interacted with Ingo, though they had no idea.

This is probably one of my favorite asks so far, because it gave me so much to think about. Which is also why it's taken me a bit longer to answer. I am trying to answer asks on a first come, first serve basis. To the best of my ability! Thank you for the ask!

Anyway, this post is VERRRRRY long, absolutely monstrous by my criteria, so under the read more it goes. You have been warned. I apparently can not shut up, lol.

So, the government. It doesn't take long for everyone to realize that Ingo, legally, does not exist. Without any identifications, there's a lot that you can't do that is important for thriving in modern society. So, yeah, they need to tell Unova's governing body the whole truth so that they can get Ingo on the fast track to the living life.

And unfortunately, the first destination on that journey is the hospital. Because Ingo spent the first three years of his new life in Sinnoh, a few centuries in the past. Man's health is either Not Good, or it's about to be. Which creates a lot of confusion for the health department, because. Well. Because. The explanation that this random haggard man needs all of his vaccines because he lived in the past for three years and didn't even have a corporeal body before that is a lot to take in, you know? And then there's the fact that the only existing documentation for this Mr. Ingo is a death certificate dated back to 28 years ago(?!?!?!).

The first solution they come up with to solve this conundrum is to do a DNA test and compare to other living family for proof of relation, and to just. Make sure they're not being made a clown.

Fun fact. When Arceus created Ingo's new body, he basically copy pasted Emmet's DNA, attached it to Ingo's soul with cosmic super glue, and called it a day. They're already twins, it's fine. :)

Yeah, they weren't ready for it when the results for Ingo's and Emmet's DNA results came out as a definitively exact match. Actually, they don't know what they were expecting.

During the few weeks that Ingo spends hospitalized for both acclimating and quarantine purposes, the identifications services go into a flurry of action to create documents for this new human adult person that spawned into existence from Arceus knows where. (See what I did there.)

Fun times. The government workers will literally never forget this for their entire lives. They will remember it as the most bizarre event they've ever experienced, bar none.

As for his official age now, since Ingo's body is physically 28, same as his brother, and he is mentally the same age, they just kinda shrug and say, yeah, sure, he's 28 years old. Never mind the fact that he's only been alive for three. Actually, don't think too hard on it. Don't.

Now, the depot agents. lmao

The day Emmet brings in Ingo for retraining and to "reinstate" him is a day of absolute chaos.

Emmet's first instinct, when he's formally introducing his brother to their employees during a meeting, is to gaslight them all into thinking Ingo had been their other boss the entire time three years ago. (When going into technicalities, it's hard to say if that's true or not. Which is the best part.)

"I am Emmet. I am getting down to business. Today, we will welcoming back Ingo to our work force. He went missing three years ago. He is back now. We will be resuming standard operating procedures with Ingo as the Subway Boss on the singles line again. Any questions?"

(Ingo, not having been forewarned of Emmet's plans, blinks and stares at his brother for a few moments, before mentally sighing and face-palming. He quickly decides to let Emmet get away with this, however. He's not immune to following along Emmet's whims, and he's not disinterested to see how this falls out.)

...

"A NEW SUBWAY BOSS?!

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN AGAIN?!"

"HE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE YOU, WHO IS HE?!"

"How rude! I am offended for Ingo. You forgot about him! Unforgivable. Yup! This is verrrry sad. Terrrrrible. Ingo is my twin brother. I was in grief over his absence for three years. I am disappointed you did not notice."

"I didn't forget, Boss Emmet! I've never set a foot out of Gear Station my entire life, so of course I remember Boss Ingo! We loved working with Boss Ingo, I don't know how anyone could forget a kind and jovial man like him!"

(Depot Agent Jackie is most definitely in on it.)

All of the depot agents are reeling at this new reality that they have to force their brains to get used to. Some would keep swearing up and down that there was never a Boss Ingo, but then Emmet would wave around the proof of employment (that he typed up literally an hour before the meeting) and they'd just be reduced to a state of mental sputtering and questioning reality. Many are a flustered mess whenever they end up interacting with Ingo himself.

Emmet and Ingo let the depot agents stew in this prank for just the one day, at least until Ingo finally convinces Emmet to hold another meeting the next day to tell the agents the full truth and allow the poor guys some peace of mind. (Ingo does scold Emmet a little for being so mean-spirited with this particular joke, though it doesn't last too long when Emmet points out that Ingo didn't stop him.)

Funny enough, the truth ended up being even more of a bombshell than the prank had been. Who woulda thought.

From then on, the twins and the depot agents do their best to stay professional and help ease Ingo back into the work routine as something like a Deputy Subway Boss, and they're pretty successful! It doesn't take too long to get Ingo fully instated as an official Subway Boss, Ingo being as enthusiastic and dedicated to the job as he is, and, over time, the agents slowly realize that they did miss him without ever knowing it. Three years ago, they really did notice his disappearance, ironically enough. Ingo's "personality" was suddenly gone, Emmet was never the same, and the work environment changed. It's weird, but in the end, they all end up thinking, "I'm glad he's back."

The day of Ingo's official promotion, the depot agents throw him a party and make sure to tell him this:

"Welcome back. We missed you."

The public's reaction to Ingo is a mixed bag, predictably.

The day of Ingo's reintroduction to Gear Station, the official Battle Subway PokeTwitter account announces: "Attention all passengers! Starting today, a new Deputy Subway Boss will be conducting us to our destination on the Singles Line! Deputy Boss Ingo looks forward to future travels with challengers. Will you go on to victory or defeat? All aboard!" (Attached is a picture of Ingo in the signature point and call pose, right hand pointing forward and left hand out to the side pointing down.)

Most responses to the announcement are basically either, "isn't that just Emmet?", or "I had no idea Emmet has a twin brother!". There's a lot of chipper "Welcome!" and "All aboard!" comments and some competitive "Can't wait to see what he's made of!" remarks, so the reception is generally a mix of confusion and enthusiasm.

And then it all came crashing down when one person says, "Isn't this the same guy who ran the singles line years ago, tho? Did he come back?"

One person unintentionally does what Emmet did to the depot agents to an entire social media community. Thus restarts the conspiracy theories again, much to Ingo's and Emmet's exasperation. If they weren't already practically celebrities by this point, then they definitely are now.

Emmet ends up using his personal account to address questions and clear it up as much as he can, while skirting around the full truth as much as possible, sometimes even outright dodging certain inquiries altogether. Ultimately, he and Ingo had decided it was best to keep it private knowledge that only certain people would know. Emmet's best efforts certainly couldn't stop rumors from sprouting all together, but it did help to placate the internet riots and calm them down. It only took about a week before the twins were no longer all PokeTwitter could talk about.

Now, interestingly enough, Ingo himself isn't doing too bad, socially. Sure, he did live on a mountain for a few years, but he also visited Jubilife Village often! He assisted at the training grounds, helped teach the villagers to befriend and battle with pokemon, often did any needed shopping there. He made sure to check in with the Pearl Clan regularly, it'd be rude to essentially go AWOL on them when they took him in and bestowed him a position as important as warden of their Lady Sneasler.

Point being, Ingo got past most of his social struggles during his displacement in Hisui. Learning how to human when in an entirely unfamiliar setting and without his memories was a huge challenge for Ingo, but he gradually settled into the new experience. Which is why going to modern day Nimbasa is such a huge culture shock. There's so many more people, ranging from incredibly kind to brutish in behavior, sometimes critical, sometimes indifferent. Despite this, Ingo has been able to be himself without question, without backlash, without fear, and it's a marvel.

The people that Emmet and Ingo had surrounded themselves with never failed to make Ingo feel encouraged and supported, including Emmet himself. Especially Emmet. Ingo has no idea what he would do without Emmet. He loves and appreciates his brother immensely. With all the assistance Ingo has, he may be nervous about meeting his new future, but he's determined to do it. Stubbornly optimistic, even. No matter what set backs or adversities Ingo may face, he has the greatest safety net holding him up.

(If Emmet ever finds anyone antagonizing Ingo, he will most definitely give them a traumatic beat down in a pokemon battle, and terrify the living daylight out of them by promising them eternal despair if he ever sees them near Ingo ever again.

Basically, Ingo: sunshine, Emmet: sunshine protector.

I am right, and I should say it. Luckily for everyone, it doesn't happen often. Nobody in their right mind would want to be mean to Ingo.)

Hi Charlie! Do you have any recs for some indie cyberpunk games? 👀

My god do I.... A lot of these, especially the proper deep cuts, are fairly short and fall into the IF/VN category, eventually if I have the time to go hunting through more of my to-play list hopefully I can recommend a wider variety.

I'll start with a couple more mainstream titles and then get into the real weird stuff.

Obviously anyone who's been around here a while knows I never miss a chance to profess my love for the Shadowrun games by Harebrained Schemes, although that's pushing the limits of "indie" lmao but for a worthwhile rpg experience that also does a lot to counteract some of my biggest gripes with the cyberpunk genre (particularly the way they handle mental health, addiction, and bodily autonomy), I really can't think of anything better.

Also in the "only indie in the broadest sense" category, for anyone who missed the hype train on Stray I do heartily recommend it. I think it's easy to dismiss that one as sort of a "gimmick" game with how much coverage focused on the pc being a cat and not a lot else, but the game definitely has a lot to say about like... human legacy and the steady march of time. It's hard to say much else about it without spoiling major plot points, it's fairly short but well worth the experience.

Another long-time favorite of mine is RUINER, although I'll freely admit this one is not what I'd call... deep lol. What it is, is absolutely dripping with edgy cyberpunk style and intensely fun to play. I think it does have an underlying commentary on like, the commodification and expendability of human bodies, but it doesn't really take a lot of time to invite you to meditate on that because there are big guns to pick up and sick combos to execute and so, so many people to kill. But maybe that's also part of the commentary 👀

Hacknet is a hacking simulator (go figure) that's very slick and stylish, and if you're not overly familiar with coding and command prompts and such it does a pretty good job of making you feel like you're doing cool hackerman shit without actually asking too much of you on a technical level. I like its sense of humor but I also like the way it occasionally drops a bombshell of a moral quandary on you in the midst of all your petty crimes. I highly recommend getting the Labyrinths dlc to go with it, especially because it'll give you some fun stuff you can take back into the base game.

Hypnospace Outlaw plays like a love letter to the web1 era (and to the power trip of being a community moderator before centralized social media lmao). It has a loose story about what's essentially a shared dream internet, and you're charged with enforcing community guidelines which unfortunately makes you a bit of an outside observer rather than a proper netizen. That provides some context and will carry you through to the conclusion pretty quickly, but ultimately its play/replay value is in uncovering secrets and just delighting in the nostalgia (or the novelty if you're not a 90s kid). The devs are currently working on a sequel(?) that looks like it will actually let you build your own website and interact with other characters in the world, which I'm very excited to see.

Broken Reality is a weird one, and feels a bit like Hypnospace Outlaw but for the early idea of VR. It's also fairly short, but I think it's exactly as long as it should be for the gimmick not to wear out. It starts out as essentially just a surreal walking sim and it's gonna feel like trippy self-referential vaporwave nonsense right up until the tone takes a hard left turn in the third act.

Vapor Trails is still in development, and I admittedly haven't played too much of it mostly because I'm very bad at platformers, but it's got a really nice aesthetic, clever character writing, and what I've seen of the story so far has me intrigued enough to keep throwing myself at it. One to keep an eye on, at the very least.

_transfer is... something very odd. More of an "interactive experience" than a game in the strictest sense, and intended to be played in many short sessions that build on each other bit by bit as you connect with a variety of other intelligences to recover memories about yourself and the world. I don't think I fully understand the story it's telling me and I'm not sure I'm even meant to, but I've played through several sessions and each one leaves me feeling kind of discomfited but fascinated. (I will say $10 may feel a bit steep for what it is, I got it in a bundle.)

Momotype....... okay listen. You're going to go look at this game and think "Charlie has clearly lost its mind, there's no way this is cyberpunk." I need you to just trust me and play it. It's free, it'll only take a few hours to get all the endings. It's Momo.

LOCALHOST is another short one with a fair amount of replay value for the surprisingly varied dialogue trees. You're tasked with wiping some damaged AIs off several hard drives, only to discover that they're all quite chatty, and now you have to decide what to do with them. This one also has a sort of unsettling vibe, and I like the variety of perspectives it has on how AI personalities might manifest.

Subserial Network is by the same developer as LOCALHOST. I've actually only just started this one so haven't gotten very deep into it, but I already find the concept pretty compelling. It's structurally similar to Hypnospace Outlaw, or maybe more accurately to something like Orwell, requiring you to comb through the internet archives of fellow citizens to incriminate them as "subserials": androids who want to forsake their human programming and become more machine. The language used to describe the serializing process has some pretty obvious parallels with both transgender healthcare and treatment for neurodivergence, so I'm really curious to see where it goes with that allegory.

A couple of honorable mentions that aren't really cyberpunk, but have a vibe that just makes me want to include them on this list:

The Magic Circle is essentially a game about game development, with a lot of commentary on artistic integrity and creativity, but the real novelty of it is the amount of stuff it lets you do inside the "game" of the game. It's really hard to explain but it's very open-ended and satisfying.

The Turing Test is, on the surface, a pretty standard "trapped on a space station solving a mystery" puzzle game, and I will say upfront the gameplay probably isn't going to be anything you haven't seen before. The puzzles are pretty good, if you're into puzzle games, but the real reason I'm putting it on the list is because this game was my first introduction to the "Chinese room" thought experiment, and it genuinely had a huge impact on my views and opinions on artificial intelligence.

2/5. Orihime Inoue ~ The Princess

Why?

She’s ridiculously quirky and really wholesome, which really added a layer of emotion to the series as the character who could be empathic with so many individuals. Her struggles and belief she builds within herself in her friends and Ichigo is beautiful to see through the show. She’s a human teenager who wasn’t built for fighting like her friends but she still tries her best to help out and genuinely has a good heart void of killing intent.

The Orihime/Riruka interaction is even wholesome when you find out Orihime calls Riruka multiple times after TYBW lmao

Showing compassion in front of those who wronged you or are against you is hard to do. For Orihime, it’s her nature to be kind and non-aggressive even to those who hurt her. It’s a sentiment that one would usually discard especially in a lot of shows. However, I see Orihime being this way as reaching out to them because she knows they’re hurting on the inside like Sora and Riruka, or that they need to load power over her like Loly.

Throughout those experiences, she’s been able to keep her compassionate nature even in the face of all this. Obviously, I could keep on harping on how this makes her stand out from multiple other characters, but I’ll try not to. Her Fullbring powers are to reject phenomenon and I see her nature as an symbol of that, where outside events don’t get to her even in dark times, that she keeps true to herself no mater what.

We As one: are not intertwined. As two: do not share the same form. Of the third: we simply don't have eyes. Of the fourth: we have no hope in that direction. At the fifth therein lies the heart. - Bleach Vol. 27

Ichigo’s conflict in the Arcancar Arc was centered around protecting his friends to the point that he wouldn’t trust them to fight with him or confide with them. Orihime also goes through something like this, which that she goes to Hueco Mundo without telling them, so Ulquiorra wouldn’t hurt them. However in her heart, she was glad Ichigo and others came for her and even had a moment where Ichigo’s mysterious Hollowifaction scared her. The very thing Ichigo strived work towards to protect her and those they loved.

I especially look towards her pacifist nature being clear when Grimmjow demands she heals Ichigo so Grimmjow can kill him at full power in a new fight. Complete opposite of Unohana learning healing Kido to extend her fights, right? That’s why it ends beautifully when Orihime realizes Ichigo’s Hollow power shouldn't get in the way of her trust in him to end the fight. She comes forth to listen to her heart and gets past the idea of no hope, the Hollow eyes she stared into, Ichigo’s masked form, and believes in those she cares about. She doesn’t despair.

To finish it off, her growth in the Fullbring arc is good to see pay off especially where she has faith in Ichigo to make it through, that she’ll heal him even if it gives him the opportunity to get hurt again. Plus, she even develops her Fullbring ability to the point where she can defend and reactively attack at the same time, thus keeping true to her nature while fighting back. Orihime is genuinely a character who I love from her quirky & kind nature but to also how human she is in dealing with things outside of her control, and her internal growth towards her friends.
