Controversial opinion among Dune book fans maybe, but I loved the changes they made to Chani's character. Making her a fedaykin who is already an experienced fighter before Paul arrives was a brilliant choice. Dune Part Two is a war movie, and this puts her at the center of the action, side by side with Paul, and gives her a much more active role than she has in the book.
We got a hint of where things were going in the beginning of Dune Part One. The first thing we ever know about movie Chani is that she's a fighter. She serves as a voice for the Fremen, telling us the story of their struggle from her point of view. I wrote here about the difference this change makes compared to other adaptations of Dune, what a perspective shift it is to have the world of Arrakis introduced not by an outsider, describing it as a dangerous but valuable colonial prize, but by one of its native inhabitants, who tells us before all else that it's beautiful, her home that she's fighting to liberate. I am so, so glad that the second movie followed up on this characterization.
I never found Chani and Paul's love story in the book particularly convincing, because why would this woman, who already has a prominent and respected place in Fremen society, even give the time of day to her deposed would-be colonizer, let alone fall in love and have children with him? Without a compelling reason for Chani to love Paul, she ends up feeling like a prize to be won, and "indigenous culture personified as a woman to be wooed (or conquered) by the colonizing man" is a trope we've seen and don't need to repeat.
But as soon as you tell me it's a barricade romance I get it. Cool cool cool, I know exactly what this relationship is now and it makes sense. Movie Chani doesn't respect or even particularly like Paul when she first meets him, and she doesn't think he's the fulfillment of any prophecy. She comes to respect him, and eventually love him, through his actions. He's brave--sometimes recklessly so. He fights well. He's willing to stick his neck out on the front lines with the other Fremen fighters. He can (after a little help) hack surviving in the harsh desert environment. He's not too proud to learn from others. He seems to genuinely want to be her equal in a common political struggle. All these qualities make sense as things she values.
Fighting side by side as equals is just about the only way I can see movie Chani falling for Paul. And it fits perfectly with the film's pattern of reversals that Paul's capacity for violence would initially be one of the things Chani likes about him, only for her to be repelled later when she sees what he becomes.
And as for Paul, well, he's had people deferring to him his entire life. Someone who doesn't take any shit from him is probably refreshing. He seems to like people (Duncan, Gurney) who challenge him and engage in a little friendly teasing--and aren't afraid to go a few rounds in the sparring ring.
It's easy to speedrun a romance when you're spending all your time together in mortal danger fighting for a shared political cause. Especially if you then start winning in a war your people have been fighting for decades. Are you kidding me? That is the perfect environment for intense battle camaraderie to turn into romantic love, and lust.
It makes sense that this version of Chani never believes Paul is any kind of messiah. Of course a character like movie Chani wouldn't believe in or trust some outside savior to liberate them. She's been working to liberate her own people for years. The more Paul invokes the messianic myth, the more he starts sounding once again like someone who plans to rule over them, and the more uncomfortable Chani becomes. In this way she becomes a foil to Jessica, the two of them representing the choices Paul is pulled between. It's a great way of externalizing the political and philosophical debates that often happen within characters' heads in the book.
And of course this version of Chani would leave Paul at the end of the film. It's not just the personal, emotional betrayal--although that stings. What common cause does she have with someone who just declared himself emperor and is sending her own people off in a war of conquest against others? Given the important role she plays in Dune Messiah, I am super curious to see how they get her back into the story, but girl was so valid for being willing to just gtfo. Given that she has the last shot of the whole movie, I'm sure she'll be back somehow, and I can't wait to see what they do with her character in any future installments.

Mattheo Riddle, son of Voldemort, or Tom Riddle if you will—for a more humane approach. But then, there's no humanity in the way he's treated. Always an outsider, always a monster.
There is wealth to his name; after all, he is the only living heir of Salazar Slytherin. However, his blood is corrupt, shunned by the very people who kissed the steps his baby feet took. Looked down on by the blood supremacists and not accepted by the other side, the "good side."
Even he was tired of the same sob story. He doesn't even need to introduce himself; they already have a preconceived image of him in their minds. He could try to fix his image in an ideal world, but even then, what would he say?
'Hello, everyone, I'm Mattheo Riddle, son of the man who once threatened your lives. Please welcome me with warm hands.'
Too cliché? Yes, but it's true and the only truth he knew.
Riddle didn't even know why the name Riddle was cursed and didn't know what his father did that made everyone's hate transcend generations. What made their hatred justified and his hate a crime? He didn't know until it was too late.
Mattheo was raised by the only living relative of his, his mother's aunt—the one who died recently. The one who kept all this hidden away from him hid all the Hogwarts' letters, raised him like her own, and protected him until her last breath. She loved him but all within the vicinity of the manor. He didn't know the world that existed beyond those walls.
He knew about the world outside only through the books she'd let him read. He thought it would feel liberating to step off the lavish floors onto the rich earth. It was everything but that.
"But Nona, why can't I go outside?" he remembers asking that silly question when he was about nine. What he wouldn't do to get that naivety back.
"Because, my dear, there are people out there who wouldn't like you. There are bad people outside ready to punish you," he also remembers crying when she told him that. He didn't understand why people would hate him. He just wanted to try the chocolate frogs he read about.
He just wanted to talk to all the different animals out there, the same way he could talk to the garden snakes.
"But I didn't do anything wrong, Nona. Tell them that I'm a good boy. I can even give them some of my toys. Will they like me then?" If only it were that easy. His Nona cried for the first time in front of him then, looking at all the toys he had set onto her lap, looking at her with teary eyes, pleading, "I didn't do anything wrong, Nona, I promise."
Mattheo didn't understand her tears back then, but now as he stands all alone, those same tears fall out his eyes. It's useless. "They'll know that someday, moon pie. You aren't wrong. They'll know." They'll know? What a fucking joke.
Mattheo tries to enjoy the view in front of him, you know. But how can he? When his batchmates are out there partying and enjoying life, he's been a lone wolf all his life. Yet in moments like this, he seems to forget his old ways of existing.
There's not much he can do anyway; he's not needed anywhere. In fact, they all want him gone. Finding beauty in small things is hard when misery clings to him. There's self-loathing in the way he thinks about the night and himself. There's nothing positive he can say.
You'd think that he must've gotten used to it all by now. No, he hasn't; it only got worse. At least little Mattheo held hope that people would understand someday or the other. Every bit of hope was destroyed by the very people who would've feared him had his father been alive. In moments like this, he wished he could see the man, live as the son they paint him as.
He'd have someone to lean onto then, someone to call his own. At least his father would've loved him. But this last bit of consolidation too was stolen away from him when he got to know that he was a backup plan for his father. Mattheo Riddle was not supposed to exist. His father wanted to live on forever; he was the last option the so-called Dark Lord had, to produce an heir and have them further his cause, and control his life as Tom lived on his last lifeline.
But all of it died with him. Mattheo promised himself that he would never be the man they all expected him to be, the man they wanted to point fingers at. So, he stayed in line. But then he thinks, sometimes, maybe, what if—you know?
He simply stares up at the brightly lit sky, it's a shame that he's the only one out there to appreciate the scenic beauty because he's physically and mentally incapable of appreciating anything, you can't blame him now, can you?
Cold breeze in mid-August, how fucking ridiculous just like this life of his, so unlike his peers, who were out there partying and having the time of their lives, the music vibrating through the walls was like salt on wounds. He'd like to drink a few and chat with his friends but then again, he hasn't got any. And it's the bitter truth that he's not welcome there, he'd be greeted with nasty looks if he tried to enter any such party, they'd all glance his way like the ominous thing he is. It's times like this when he really contemplates it.
Mattheo looks down from the height he's on, no one would care anyway, the fall will kill him, might just give it an actual try unlike those previous attempts- he's been a coward all his life, never ready to face the extremes of life but he has nothing to protect at the moment, he's come far too long, life was never going to be worth it.
He climbs over the railing onto the brick ledge, sitting down for a moment, to take it all in for the last time ever. Mattheo remembers all the whispers that followed him, the suspicious looks passed along the way, those words of disdain- at the same time the thoughts of a happy life enter his mind, it all feels unattainable, in fact, he's so far gone he can't even picture joy, all he sees is bright colours when he thinks of a happy life.
Mattheo had desperately sought relief all his life, but the pain only worsened with time, it's only reasonable to want to end this feeling of hopelessness. The weight of his family's legacy feels heavy on his shoulders. He slouches over and looks down once again, sighing as his eyes shift to the ring on his finger, the other Gaunt ring, he slowly removes it- a pathetic heir he is, he doesn't deserve it, couldn't live up to the name, disappointing both sides of the world.
Maybe they should have destroyed this along with his father's ring but apparently, his dear sweet Nona thought he could change their fate, change the course of history, change the Gaunt legacy for the better, fuck- he couldn't even try and change people's perception about him. Even in this sense, he's nothing like his predecessors, incapable of leaving a mark, of changing the world, be it for the better or the worse. He's just fucking worthless- he fiddles with the ring as he shifts a bit closer to the edge, ready to let go of it.
"Nice ring," he turns around startled, "Mattheo, isn't it?" not Riddle? He hadn't heard his own name in a long time, no one had directly addressed him in years let alone called him by his first name. It all feels foreign, he simply nods not knowing what to say. "Do you mind if I join you?" you don't wait for a response though and carefully bend and climb through the gaps between the two rails, settling down beside him. "Hi, I'm-" he doesn't hear it, he's too focused on your face, you were dolled up, for the party he thinks, but then why are you here of all places? Was this some kind of prank? He steals a glance back at the entrance and the seemingly empty hallway, to see if anyone is waiting for a reaction.
"You know you shouldn't sit so close to the edge, you might fall down," you grab his forearm urging him to move back, your hand feels warm on his skin, it feels unnatural, his hands are always cold. Even though it's on him for a couple of seconds he can't help the multiple emotions going on about in his mind and before he can sort them out, his mouth decides to act on its own, "Why aren't you at the party?" "Oh-" you look disappointed, and he apologises right away, not wanting to upset the only person who had the decency to talk to him, "Sorry, I shouldn't have asked," he's quick to defend himself, it's a natural response after all but you only seemed amused, "No, it quite alright, I was just surprised by your voice-" "Is it that bad?" "Gosh no! It's just not what I expected, quite rough, it's nice," you are quick to shut him up, "And about your question, I am annoyed at my friends forcing me to try more drinks and all, I just came up here to relax."
"I can leave if you'd like," you add on as an afterthought, but you really didn't want to go, it was the only place with some peace, unlike the loud corridors and dorms, where you were mad at your friends and were in no mood for a party. "No, it's quite alright, I was just surprised," he tries to lighten the mood, repeating your words jokingly, it works, you laugh and properly look at him instead of the waters ahead.
"Haha so funny," you say in a monotonous voice, trying to act like you didn't just laugh but you can't contain your smile, and he finds it quite beautiful. You look down at the ring between the two of you, "it's a beautiful ring I must say," You compliment it again since he hadn't acknowledged it before. Mattheo thanked you quietly trying to think of a response that might not make you run away from him.
It's been only a few minutes and you've said more nice things to him than he has ever heard in his whole life, it's quite ridiculous when he thinks about it, seemingly you find it quite easy to compliment him. He stays quiet not knowing how to take a compliment, but you don't let the silence continue, you look around trying to find something to talk about and soon enough you start talking and he's glad, "You know about those plants right there?" you point to the shrubs at some distance from the castle walls. Mattheo shakes his head unable to recall if he had seen them before. "It's alright but now that you know, you have something to look forward to this upcoming month!" you smile yet again, cheerful that you have something to share.
"What's special about them?" "It's not the plant itself but the fireflies that live there!" Mattheo tries hard to keep up with your energy and pace, "Why aren't they out now? They aren't migratory, are they?" "That's what makes it special unlike fireflies that are present throughout the summer, these ones light up only for the last week of August," "I'll look forward to it," "You should! I missed it last year and then everyone thought I was lying when I mentioned it." Mattheo frowns, "No one knows about them? Not even the professors?" "The professors would know but it wasn't that serious that I'd take it up to them," Mattheo finds it difficult to relate, he always would let everyone know that he was in the right if the facts favour him because no way in hell would he let anyone see him in the wrong light, he couldn't bear to be in the wrong.
And it slips out his mouth, "I would've argued till they knew I was right," "I don't like arguing though, reminds me of my parents, they parted ways because they argued a lot, so I try to avoid it myself," his lips purse trying to think of an appropriate response, "Anyway, you are in Slytherin right?" it wasn't a question, you just knew, "I'm in Hufflepuff, nice to meet you!" you turn towards him and extend your hand with a smile, he can't help but mirror your smile, "Nice to meet you indeed." Your hand feels soft in his, he was finding it hard to let go but you pull your hand back almost instantly- remembering something, "OH right I forgot, do you like chocolates?" Mattheo was quite taken aback by your energetic self, it was infectious, "Of course you do, it's a silly question, I mean who doesn't like chocolate-" you stop midway and fix him with a scrutinising look, "Unless you are some heartless monster-" "Nah I like chocolate alright," "Good good."
You fish through your jacket's pocket and pull out two chocolate bars, "It's muggle chocolate," you place one in his hand, "Muggle? I've never had muggle candy," Mattheo inspects the small sweet in his hand, "You are missing out then!" you chuckle as you take the wrapper off yours, "I'll eat it tomorrow, thank you," He pockets it and looks ahead with a small smile, tonight's beautiful now that he looks at it.
"You are a muggle born then?" Mattheo can't help but want to know more, because how dare his fucking father go after your lot, "Yep, I was surprised you know? To receive the letter, I thought it was some prank but of course, after a few days I realised how real it was, couldn't have been happier, to be away from home." It's funny because all Mattheo wants to do is go back to the gloomy old mansion and here you were saying the opposite, the stark difference between the two of you was obvious to him.
You ramble on and he listens, it's nothing but enjoyable to listen to mundane stories being narrated with such interest, he finds himself smiling a bit too much, to the point where his face hurts but he doesn't care because you are quite the lovely company to be around.
Muggle-born, the same year as him, Hufflepuff, living with your mom- it's not the best back home he gathers that much. You were angry at your friends and were going to hold a grudge if they didn't apologise. He learned a lot about you in that one hour and learned a few things about him as well, he didn't know he had jokes like that OR you were just too kind to laugh at his bad quips, whatever it was he was grateful because you didn't make him feel bad or like a burden. Mattheo was glad that you were the talkative one and that you didn't expect him to share anything if he wasn't comfortable, also the fact that he didn't want to send you running away by talking more about himself.
He admires the fond smile you wear when you talk, the stars reflect a bit too brightly in your eyes, and he inhales breathing in your scent, it's surreal, the moment. Mattheo didn't quite think properly until you left, wishing him a good night, "it was nice spending time with you, Mattheo!" He wonders if you knew how much it meant to him.
...
He finds out your name the next day and sees you everywhere, it's annoying because he was tired since he couldn't sleep thinking all night about you and now he has to see your face again. Now that he knows you, he can't seem to avoid you, earlier it was easy to be blind but now, everything else seems like a blind spot but you. Or maybe it's that his head is not hanging low, avoiding looking up at people.
Mattheo got over the irritation rather quickly, discreetly looking at you, eyes following every movement of yours. But you don't look at him once, he was just like any other guy to you, the realisation both hurts and feels nice, knowing that you don't demonise him but also the fact that he's no one special either. And maybe, he can live with that.
He notices the large number of people you keep around, you are never alone, always surrounded by a group and you are always the one talking, you are clearly popular. How had he not noticed you before? But then again he knew no one in the school apart from the professors, he never tried to get to know anyone because of course his fate wouldn't allow that.
Mattheo seeks out the solace of the library to keep you out of his mind for a while but the plan doesn't seem to work when he finds the chocolate you gave him in his bag. He simply sighs, knowing that there is no escape, unwarps the sweet and pops it into his mouth, shutting his eyes, and recalls your sweet smile. Warmth takes over his body, it feels nice like this, he has to talk to you once again because that can't be the only interaction he has with you, not when it's all he can think about. He breathes out slowly, staring down at the wrapper and mindlessly reading the information on the back, his jaw tightens as he realizes his stupid pathetic feelings. Mattheo puts the wrapper in his quill case and tries to study with a head full of you.
...
Okay, now it was really starting to bother him, he practically couldn't keep his eyes off you, it's like a spell had charmed him in. He wasn't even trying to be discreet at this point, he downright stared at you from a distance, it was creepy, he was aware of that but he couldn't bring himself to give a damn. Mattheo doesn't like this new feeling you've instilled in him, it's sweet and it's fucking uncomfortable. He finds it extremely difficult to get rid of you from his thoughts, so he gives up on trying and lets his mind go on autopilot.
The way you talked to him without any judgement in your eyes that day, the images of you repeated over and over again in his mind. Even when he sees you with someone else he can't help but think you are in front of him telling him a story, with those animated expressions of yours, but then seconds later he comes to his senses and sees the smile that's not directed at him, the one you gave to everyone, him too. He thinks it was your pity, that made you talk to him. He didn't feel like he was burdening you then but now when he thinks of approaching you, he knows he'd be burdening you. Your life looks no different, every day is full of joy, and you aren't smiling any less.
Why would you talk to him of all people? Perhaps, you only talked to him that day because you needed a change of scenery and not because you wanted to, he's wrong in thinking that but he's also deluded. It's the only way he keeps himself at peace, to not see meaning in your words, to not long for your company.
But he's a Riddle after all, some things just run in your blood, he has his eyes set on you and he finds it difficult to look away. New dream of his, and he'd like to have it, no matter how unattainable it feels. Yet he hasn't got a clue, it's all too new, and he doesn't know what to do, he'd like to have a plan but what would the plan even say? Go and talk to her? Yeah, like he's about to embarrass himself in front of her.
...
Your eyes stretch at the sight of him sitting in the library, alone but not in some deserted corner, he had claimed the whole couch in the centre of the room, sitting right in the middle, reading a book leaning back, a frown on his face. He looked intimidating, and to be honest, you were scared of him, the little beer in you that night had given you the courage to approach him, maybe your fate was too kind to let you find him that night but now your nerves were on fire.
It was no secret to you that he had been staring at you the past couple of weeks, but you couldn't understand the look on his face, his jaw was always clenched, eyes narrowed, and not a hint of emotion on his face. Was he mad at you? Was he the planning on-
No. You didn't like to think about it, you didn't want him to be the man they paint him as, he's just a boy, your age, maybe that's another reason why you hadn't approached him. Staying away because you were scared that they'd be right, you'd rather delve into what ifs than actually be heartbroken, your imagination brought you bliss.
But would it really be your mind if it would let you just forget it? You think and think, getting worked up over every little interaction you've had with him. How could he be evil? He talked to you so nicely the other day, even- even though you were a muggle-born, a mud blood. But when you see how he looks at you, you can't help but feel scared.
It really was an intimidating sight, your courage wore thin but you had made up your mind. You approach him cautiously, as you greet him, you start feeling jittery and flushed, "Hey Mattheo."
Mattheo jerked his head up as he heard your voice, surprised, caught off guard in fact, he didn't trust his words just yet so he simply nodded at you, acknowledging your presence, closing the book and setting it aside, all his attention on you. "I came here to study and noticed you," you look around bashfully before continuing, "I just wanted to ask you if you liked the chocolate I gave you the other day, you know the one with dark brown wrapper-" "Yeah I did," He stops you from rambling on, not that he had any problem with it but you clearly seemed nervous, he just wanted to ease your nerves, "Right so-" you quickly pull out a small pack of the chocolate from your sling bag placing it beside him, straightening up, "I'll go then, enjoy-" you are quick to turn away from him, cursing yourself in your mind, blaming yourself for making things more awkward than they already were.
Mattheo stops you in your tracks as he calls you by your name, you turn around, and he speaks in that cold voice of his, "You said you were here to study right?" you nod timidly, clutching onto the straps of your bag, he leans back and with a flick of his wrist, a table and chair are summoned in front of him, "then study," he motions to the chair opposite of him.
You were quite taken aback, you stood there for a bit before actually registering his words, and you quietly sat down, you didn't have it in you to disobey him, he was Mattheo Riddle for fucks sake, he looked and sounded like someone who doesn't take no for an answer.
A small smile tugged at his lips as he watched you carefully sit down, looking down, not meeting his gaze, he couldn't believe it, you obliged his wishes? Mattheo leaned back fully, arms folding as he watched you, brown eyes capturing each detail, amusement crawled over his face as he watched you pull out multiple books all at once, various colourful stationery items sprawled out all over the table. You looked pretty like this, stray strands of hair framing your face, lips pursed in concentration. He knew how creepy he was being, so he opened his book again and tried to read but he simply couldn't not when you were sitting in front of him, he relished your presence and this was so unlike the others, every time he had looked at you- you had been surrounded by people, so it was a sight to behold, only for him to admire. So he did, in secret, glancing up at you, every few seconds.
It's been two hours and not once did he get bored of looking at you, a small smile lingered on his face as you closed your books and looked up at him, "How's that book?" you nod towards the book in his hand- the one he was supposed to be reading, "Good, good" he bites the inside of cheek as he lies through his teeth, "Got everything done?" he sets his book aside, fixing you with a soft stare, "Yes, I just wanted to revise a bit, I forget stuff easily if I don't revise regularly," you tilt your head a bit, his eyes were much softer now, and it made your heart flutter a bit, feeling a lot more comfortable than before, so you do what you usually do when you are comfortable- talk.
"By the way, did you study for the upcoming herbology test?" And before he could answer, you pulled out a piece of paper from your bag, "This is like the holy grail, a senior gave it to me last year, it has all the specifics, of recognising plants and how to make generalised guesses about their uses-" you speak in a hushed voice, slightly leaning over the table, eyes wide as you shared your little secret, "you can have it, I have it memorised haha" You bless him with that pretty smile of yours, pushing the paper towards him, you don't let him refuse the offer and start talking about something else, he gives you a small smile, and it makes your insides turn into mush, you bite your lip trying to contain your smile, eyes shy as you start fiddling with your hands on your lap.
You talked for hours, he was much more open this time, and the conversation flowed smoothly between the two of you, it was you who mostly did the talking but he didn't seem to mind he looked more than pleased, he didn't like talking much, it seemed, so you filled in the gaps, made it look so effortless like it was easy talking to him, maybe it was easy for you but to him, it made him feel warm and fuzzy inside. You two stopped only when the librarian came in and told you it was curfew time, your eyes widened as you turned to look back at him, an amused smile on your face, both of you got up, walking beside each other, not uttering a word till you were out of the librarian's stern gaze.
"I made you miss dinner-" your eyes widened further as soon as the two of you got out, stepping into the empty hallway, "it's alright, I don't mind," you playfully rolled your eyes at him, he chuckled at your antics, "yeah sure, but your stomach would, but- we can sneak into the kitchens, you know, sneak some food out," you wiggle your eyebrows at him with a sheepish grin on your face, he scoffs in disbelief, a fond smile gracing his face, "something tells me, this isn't your first time sneaking around."
"No, it's not," you chuckle a bit before continuing, "So, are you coming or not?" you purse your lips, looking up at him with doe eyes and he questions your motives right then because there's no way you didn't have a clue about what you were doing, "would be an idiot to say no," he muttered under his breath shaking his head, "I didn't catch that-", "Yes, I am."
You give him a pleased smile, you looked so happy at that moment, he was rooted in his position as you started walking ahead of him, he had to look away to catch his breath, "Merlin" he exhaled, a hand reaching over to his chest to soothe his loud thumping heart, and in that moment he knew he was a goner.
"Mattheo-?" you turned around since you didn't hear him walk with you but soon he rushed to your side the moment you looked back, you gave him another smile as he walked beside you, he looked straight ahead then, you needed to stop doing that because no fucking way- would he be able to let go of you.
You lead him to the kitchen, both of you cautious, well just you- he was having the time of his life, getting a detention would be worth it, just a small price to pay. Mattheo repeatedly stole glances here and there, the moment you entered the kitchen, you grabbed his arm and pulled his painfully slow self in, "gosh- you sure do walk slow," you glare at him, but there's no malice in your eyes, instead they are just amused, you roll your eyes when he just shrugs in response, moving over to the tables. Mattheo just looked at you with fond eyes, he was just trying to buy more time with you by walking slowly and he didn't feel one bit guilty about it, he felt a bit too proud.
You sigh dramatically before returning to him with a small tray in your hands, "I didn't find anything else, apart from these blueberry muffins," your eyes wander around once more trying to see if you missed something, "usually there's still stuff left, that's weird- oh well, at least we have these," you give him a small defeated smile, setting the tray on the table, shrugging as you felt that muffins weren't worth the effort of sneaking around and that you only troubled him further. Mattheo saw through you and he hated that you were feeling that way, "didn't I mention this to you? I love muffins, especially the blueberry ones." he gave you a small smile, picking up the muffin, taking a bite, "yeah, that's good, way better than the dry vegetable and chicken pies they make." He didn't look at you as he said that, but you smiled, realising what he was trying to do, you wanted to cry, why was he being so considerate? You were now beginning to go down a spiral, of all the times you thought of him in the wrong light, how dare you even think like that?
Mattheo caught you staring and it was hard for him to control the heat that rose to his cheeks, he cleared his throat, "What? You don't like these? Well, guess they are all for me-" he teased, taking the tray in his hand and started walking away, "Hey! No-" you rushed after him with an amused smile, "I want one too," and the tray was shoved back into your hands, "better not eat all of them, yeah?" he gave you a small cheeky wink, leaning against the table, finishing the muffin in his hand.
Mattheo offered to walk you back to your dorm, he didn't have to insist much, after all, you wanted to spend time with him too, you easily agreed after a couple of tries. You two walked in comfortable silence, as you neared the Hufflepuff dormitory, you were thinking about how you'd part ways, overthinking about what would be appropriate and in the mix of it, you just gave him an awkward side hug, squeezing his arm a bit before mumbling a quick "goodnight" and rushing in.
He couldn't believe his eyes, were you blushing? No way, he must be imagining things. Mattheo could still feel your warm touch lingering on his side, the scene playing over and over again in his mind, he wanted to scream out of excitement- he was getting cuteness aggression, had to be it, his fists clenched at his side as he stared at the door, for god knows how long, if he could- he would've squeezed you into a bone-crushing hug, but you were quick, left him speechless.
He walked back to the Slytherin dorm without any trouble, he closed the door behind himself and leaned back against it, he was pretty sure his skin was burning with all the warmth that was flowing through his veins. Merlin, he was embarrassing! Mattheo sighed contently, a big smile on his face as he replayed the whole day, your smile-
...
The next few days, you guys didn't talk at all, he was back to staring and this time, when you did catch him in the act, instead of pretending you didn't see him, you gave him a knowing smile and a wave. Lingering looks, and subtle greetings, were sweet, Mattheo was now on a new high, he couldn't get enough. But for some reason, he maintained his distance, he stuck to looking at you from afar, it felt comfortable this way, not wanting to taint your reputation by talking to you in front of others, he'd talk to you if it was only you but you were never alone.
Mattheo starts seeing life for what it is, when he looks at the trees outside, the castle in its entirety, he feels like he is seeing it for the first time. How had he missed this? He finds himself back at the astronomy tower, he looks at the lake ahead, it was a sight to behold, and he is starting to appreciate the view, these days he didn't care about much, you were all he could think about and you were more than pleasant, it was as if the grey lens of his life was replaced with a coloured one, and it would be foolish to credit anyone else but you for it, and he was fucking grateful for it. The reason he was here was, that it was the end of August, and the fireflies you so damn wished to see would be out tonight, he came here just in the hope that he'll get to see you alone.
He was zoning out when some movement near the edge of the lake caught his eye, it was you- with a few of your friends, his smile faltered the moment he saw some blonde Hufflepuff dude pull you to his side, slinging a hand over your shoulder, you all walked towards the shrubs and didn't have to wait long before the fireflies lit up and started raising above the shrubs. He was about to leave, he was mad for some reason, really pissed- but then he took another look at you. You were standing a bit behind your friends, who had all their attention on the flies ahead, you seemed sad, looking down, messing with the soil beneath your shoe, hands in your jacket. Mattheo could make out the pout on your face, the deflated shoulders, you then turned to look right where he was, and he felt his breath catch in his throat.
Your posture straightened immediately, the pretty smile returning to your face as you looked up at the astronomy tower balcony, having spotted him, you waved at him. Mattheo nodded, forearms on the railing as he leaned forward, a smile gracing his features, the anger leaving him. You excitedly pointed at the sky, and he nodded, you turned back around when your friend called you and he couldn't look away, he was staring at you till you left, Mattheo started feeling the warmth creep up to him when he saw you making an effort to steal back glances at him. He felt seen, fucking special-
...
Mattheo still hadn't talked to you, he couldn't catch you alone really, it was starting to get to him, he longed to hear your voice, hear you talk to him- and yet, he didn't have it in him to approach you in front of others, it would ruin you, you thrived in the company of others, he couldn't snatch that away from you. Maybe if he was a bit more selfish, he'd do it, snatch you away from others, have you all to himself but he wasn't about that life, it was something his father would do, he's sure of it, go after what he wants, not caring what others would think-
Mattheo feels like passing out when you deliberately look at him just to give him a shy smile, a flushed look on your face. He walks away because he cannot handle looking at you, the urge is too strong, to just take you into his arms, he walks out to the empty hallway, a hand over his chest- it had become a subconscious habit of his, whenever you gave him that smile, the one that felt like it was just reserved for him, yeah that one, he felt like he was in heaven, you sent his heart rate through the roof when you did that, it borderline hurt him since he couldn't do much to satiate this feeling.
The longing was etched into his eyes when he looked at you, one thing he realised was, that when he had his head up, no one dared to look his way, he was enjoying that power for some reason, it filled his veins with something dark, he liked seeing people look down instead of him looking down, it felt fucking nice, and it felt even better when the only person that did look at him, was you. People averted their eyes when he entered the room, choosing to ignore his presence but the fear was very much evident, so he knew they didn't see him staring at you but at this point, he really couldn't bring himself to make an active effort to look away even if someone noticed.
It was no lie, that Mattheo wasn't up to date with all the gossip and news, he just lived life passively but now that he was out there more, he couldn't help but hear the words that fell onto his ears, Yule Ball, huh. WAIT- ball dance? That meant having a date, who were you going with? Fuck his mind was rambling shit to him, he could not let someone else take you to a fucking dance as their date, no, he wouldn't let that happen. He had to get to you before someone else did, it was nighttime, and tomorrow's the weekend, approaching you will be the first thing he'll do after he wakes up, he has to plan shit out, you know, make it special and heartfelt, you deserved nothing less.
But his heart nearly broke when he overheard two Slytherin guys talking about you. The way one of them talked about you made his blood boil, his jaw clenched tight, nails drawing blood from his palms as they dug into his coarse skin, "I told you not to ask her out, plenty of guys tried and guess what? She rejected them all." the guy who was being talked to only scoffed angrily, "She's a fucking slut, that's what she is, leading people on-" the other boy just stopped him and Mattheo exhaled, a bit relieved because if it wasn't for him, Mattheo would've smacked the guy and pushed him to the fucking wall, "dude, come on, that's not true, all she did was smile at you when you gave her your seat, she's a nice girl," these guys were in the fifth year, he recognised that much, "sure, whatever," the guy walked away to his room, making sure to loudly slam the door behind him.
Mattheo then gets up and walks towards the guy left behind, the one who stood up for you, when he stands in front of him, he sees the dude cower into the seat, Mattheo tries to speak in a polite voice but the anger is still radiating off him, his irritated stare didn't help either, "she doesn't have a date, yeah?" his hands were behind his back, over one another, the blood still fresh, "who-o?" the guy stutters out, looking around for help but no one was there- "You know who," he fixes him with a glare, before uttering your name out loud, "no no, she doesn't, rejected them all." Mattheo then nods at him and leans back, then finally he walks back to his room, allowing the guy to catch his breath.
Mattheo feels relief wash over him as he lets the information sink in, okay good, you didn't have a date but then again, why were you rejecting them all? What if you reject him as well? Yeah, he couldn't handle that wound, he'd fucking die, he contemplates whether he should ask you or not but he's done fucking waiting, waiting for his fate to fuck things over, if things are going to be fucked, he'll be the one to do it.
...
Mattheo puts on a black shirt and black pants, not caring to tuck his shirt in, the cold metal ring stings him as he puts it on, the feeling is grounding, he's doing something his dad would've done and for some reason that doesn't feel half as bad, he feels like himself, it was like something had possessed him, the confidence was unwavering, even as he stepped out into the crowded hallway, hands in his pockets, looking ahead, people parted, giving him space and Merlin, did that feel fucking powerful. He rolled his sleeves up to his elbows as he approached the room you'd be in, you always were there on the weekends, with your friends and he didn't think before he stepped into the room, heads turning towards him in shock, even yours but the shock on your face was soon replaced with a smile, quietly waving at him and that right there, fed right into his ego.
He walked over to you in a few quick strides, eyes zeroed in on you, nothing else mattered at that moment, "Can I talk to you?" To say you were surprised would be an understatement, you were ecstatic, you've wanted this for so long, to talk to him in front of others, you never knew if you should because he might've felt uncomfortable, "Yes ofcourse, what is it?" you nod, a smile still on your face, "Alone," his voice was cold, "oh yeah, sure-" you step towards him, thinking he'd lead you somewhere private but he stayed rooted in his place, eyes never leaving yours, he stayed quiet for a bit, taking in your whole self, the bright clothes you were dressed in, the equally bright smile on your face. Then he looked over your head, to the shocked faces of your friends, "Alone." It came out as an order, he couldn't care less.
Mattheo liked this newfound authority, he also relished in the fact that you were being so compliant as if you wanted this to happen and he couldn't be more glad, "Guys, I'll be back, you can go ahead, don't worry," you explained, seeing their hesitance, his unwavering gaze was back on you, brown eyes were intense. The apprehensive group slowly emptied the room and just went the last person was out, Mattheo muttered something under his breath, and the door slammed shut, locking itself.
Mattheo cursed that pretty smile of yours before smiling back, "You have a date? For the ball?" you lowered your eyes to the ground at the question, a shy look grazing your features as you shook your head, the more he looked at you, the more positive he got. "Good."  He finally pulled his hands out of his pocket and suddenly there was a bouquet of your favourite flowers in his hand and a velvet box, he wordlessly handed them to you, your eyes were wide, full of amusement, face warm, you noticed how the lights around you got dimmer, the small mock firefly charms that floated in the air, you didn't have a clue on how he was doing all this without his wand but you couldn't bring yourself to think of it, not when you had him standing in front you, in all his glory, about to ask you to the ball, gosh you felt like you were on cloud nine, the guy you were waiting for had actually approached you? You had to be dreaming.
Then out of nowhere, you hear your favourite song but on strings, you look down at the box curiously- "It's the muggle chocolate you were talking about, the one you said was hard to get your hands on," he shrugged nonchalantly, as if it was no big deal but in reality, he was finding the courage to finally tell you what he was feeling, ask you out. Your brows pinched together, as you noticed that all of it was a muggle, even the flower arrangement- the song, how did he do all of this? You looked up at him with an amused look. "No questions please," he breathed out like he was out of breath, you then smiled at him gratefully, and he quickly averted his eyes, his hand subconsciously reaching over to his chest, "Oh Merlin," he exhaled quietly, not being able to look back at you.
He then slowly gathered the courage to look back at you, you were just looking at him patiently, the smile still on your face, Mattheo cleared his throat before opening up, "I have never been the one to be graceful but I want to this properly." he inhaled sharply before continuing, "Ever since that night, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you, I think I've gone mad honestly," He lets out a dry chuckle shaking his head, looking into your eyes, "I think I've taken a liking to you, your voice, your smile-" and then he interrupts himself, forgetting the little speech he prepared as he watches your smile widen at his words, "yeah that, more of that please," and that makes you blush, the genuine interest in his eyes, the way admiration shines in his eyes, you are so close to him, that you can hear his heart thumping loudly, "I'd like to have the honour of taking you to the ball," then he says your name quietly, "would you like be my date?"
"Yes yes!" you couldn't be more excited, you are quick to throw your arms around him, and all the worries leave his body as soon as he is subjected to your embrace, he closes his eyes, pulling you closer, finding everything comfortable in your grip. His heartstrings thrum at the moment, it was embarrassing how quickly you got him flustered but he didn't seem to mind it. He whispered a small "thank you," before hugging you tighter, you just giggled into his chest and Merlin, did he feel like he had just won the lottery.

i was wondering if you write for kusuo saiki and if you do can you write abt him being yandere
like on the outside around you he acts like he doesn’t want you there and act like with everyone else but in the inside he’s freaking out he’s so close to you
and i also think he becomes a cat so you would give him kisses and hugs 🤭
Yeah, I do and I can ofc. Thanks for the request & idea, anon! Hope you enjoy!
>)~Headcanons
Yandere Saiki Kusuo
Tumblr media
Warning: obsessive thoughts, implied threats (not towards reader), gaslight, controlling behaviors
- Here we go again... (As in another episode of Kusuo trying hard not to acknowledge his feelings and avoid you)
- The more he pushes you out his mind conciously, the deeper he's tangled in those thoughts. It's really meddlesome when falling hard for you ends up as another thing he can't control.
- Aware of the gravity his feelings could have upon you and the others, he tries to keep you away from him like he does with others.
- If the universe isn't going to push you into his way persistently unless he goes out of his way to meet you, Kusuo would feel a growing disappointment (+ guilt because you could be forgotten as a character in his world). Really now? He's annoyed and can't focus enjoying his time alone when he's filled with thoughts that you might be able to keep him company or he could make you come over. So he did.
- If the universe is somehow being kind to him, only allowing you to be by his side... well, he doesn't mind it that much as long as you're behaving yourself.
- Supposedly he doesn't mind. But now he wants some distractions aside being fixated on your presence like you're the only one matter in this world, at the same time he would hate to see others taking up your attention. You better not waste your time with a bunch like them.
- Kusuo would appreciate his inner feelings calming down by your attempts of distracting him to some desserts and coffee jelly, perhaps.
- (side note: inner because from outside he looks slightly irritated and more quiet than usual. If that put you off and you're thinking them as signs of him wanting you away from his sight since he was really cold & persistent in avoiding you, you're free to give him some space. He wouldn't stop you. When you already left, he would realize he didn't stop you. So, he brings the nearest fitting object to some island before butchering it up until it's no longer recognizeable. He stays in that island for an hour with a great storm happening.)
- After that, Kusuo would tackle most activities such as doing one of his/your hobbies with you. Once in a while, it's good to enjoy a quality time with a special someone. ...once in a while? Make that everyday, a daily routine so he could be rid of his sick feelings once and for all. he couldn't
- From now on, you're someone who often stay over to his house without anyone batting an eye. At this point, you're just like a resident of it and considered as someone fitting for Saiki by both his fussy parents.
- You feel like your life has become easier, not have a single thing or someone get in your way, it's like they're not there anymore from the very beginning.
- Saiki is also ready to face his older brother and won't let him touch a hair on your head, gets real serious and put him down whenever his brother tries to get close to you too.
- Everyday will not pass without him being close to you. Very few rare times he would show you affection are when you look like you need some comfort by a hug or a pat on the head.
- You don't need anyone to involve yourself with. Only him and his parents, maybe his friends too in your whole life, there's no things you need to do/talk with others beside the ones mentioned above. They wouldn't be making sense with their nonsensical excuses you can't do anything about.
Side story: Saiki cat/Psi ver.
Tumblr media
- What? Don't be ridiculous, even if he cherish you deeply, he wouldn't let you take advantage of his animal form.
- It's just for special occassion like your birthday maybe, wait patiently for that. Even then, his transformation would take two hours so you still need to wait at any rate.
- If you can't interact with him in the cat form, you ask him to let you have a stuffed animal of it at least.
- He won't allow it as it's not efficient when you can instead hold the real deal—no, not him, another cat.
- So then you get to pamper an orange cat named Anpu instead. Or he could go with you to a cat island.
- All the cats are really sweet to you and would bring you random items. When you're already distracted not to mind him or forget about the cat matter from before, two hours will have passed since then.
- The peak heaven is reached with him now included.
- Don't bring up about his purrs whenever you pet/scratch him, they're only automatic response of being a cat.
- I guess he could automatically nuzzle against you too as a return without you noticing.

okaaaayy, so, i saw a post that i think was sort of targeted towards one of my posts talking about how "lbh was better than me bc i too would've gone bat shit insane"
"I've seen a post saying that that they understand LBH going bat-shit crazy because one guy (Shen Jiu) rejected him, and that they would've done the same."
and i would just like to say that i am in no way justifying bingge or bingmei's actions, and i think i made it pretty clear that i knew how fucked and unhinged lbh was ahaha..? though it's not just because one guy rejected him, but because of the terrible side dishes, nasty after taste, and tragedy galore!
all i was rlly doing was putting myself in lbh's shoes. in my post, i was saying how if i was thoroughly bullied and alone throughout my whole life and then was randomly taken cared of by someone and proceeded to fall completely in love with them, and then out of nowhere they turned a complete 180 and pretty much told me to fuck myself bc of my race and pushed me down into literal hell, i think i would've gone crazy! absolutely bonkers. then that person kept running away from me when i'm just trying to talk to them? i don't know how my mental health would be able to take that! the post was more placed in a joke-y manner, but i do think that i would've done the same if that was my situation. is that okay? hell to the fucking no, i'd be horrified of myself if i were to see me doing that no matter the reason. the same goes for the og, the pidw binghe's situation
and really, the same goes for sj as well. if throughout my whole life i was on the streets and then a slave and beaten etc... shit, i probably would've turned out just like him. it doesn't make it right, and i'm not justifying it, but i'm placing myself in the characters' shoes and understanding how they came to be such a way
so, i was pretty much saying that i understood luo binghe, though in no way did i mean to excuse his actions. but i understand that it sounded like i was justifying it, so i can 100% see that now looking back which i am completely at fault for. and, i for one also dislike it when people try to downplay luo binghe's actions or justify what he did
"by your logic, can we excuse serial killers going on a rampage because the person they liked refused them?" no, absolutely not. and no, i wouldn't be okay with a crazy bastard taking it out on someone i cherish for a stupid reason. i wouldn't be okay with someone taking it out on anyone for any reason. there is a line between reality and fiction that i do not cross, and even in fiction i can very thoroughly recognize the fucked up side of my favorite characters
lbh's fucked and definitely a little more than unhinged, and i don't truly think that he's a completely good or even bad person, but i do appreciate that (at least, to me) he seems to try to become a better one after all of that at the end of the series and recognizes that he can't own sqq
and, hey, sj is one of my favorite characters! i enjoy how mxtx made the svsss characters be fucked in some degree. like how lqg thinks just beating up his disciples is a valid teaching method. i enjoy stories with characters who aren't necessarily "good" or "bad" only. moral ambiguity with characters is so interesting!
i really don't think that we should be putting lbh stans and sj stans against each other because, well, there will always be people on both sides who justify the characters' actions. it's not just one side is doing this and the other side isn't doing that, ykwim? and this isn't even just about lbh and sj when we think about it, it's how some people perceive characters who are morally questionable and don't truly look at all sides of the character! the bad, the good, and the ugly
i love sj and lbh, i love my characters with ambiguous morals, and i love that i can put myself in their shoes and see where they're coming from/why they're the way they are no matter how delightfully screwed it is. especially bingge, he's a deliciously tragic and horrible person
so, if i were to believe that lbh's (or tbh any svsss's characters') actions were okay and justified, and also proceeded to believe so if it took place in real life, then there "might" just be something wrong with me

The Story of Minglan
I am so upset about Buwei's death but very curious about what is coming next. Since this is a c-drama and they can't have an immoral Emperor on the throne as an endgame, I suppose that the Yong family is going down one way or another. Let's hope they take the Qi household with them, especially Princess Pingning.
Team Prince Yan!
***
Yawn.
Tumblr media
My lack of sympathy for this woman and her whole family cannot be overstated.
***
Did any of you care whether other people lived or died?
Tumblr media
Fuck you both.
And the best part is that his stupid ass thought that if he was to whine in front of the Emperor about Minglan, this useless man would grant him the marriage 🤣🤣
***
He has already forgotten that she beat Buwei to death because of him, smh, and they are back to business as usual.
Tumblr media
Human lives literally mean nothing to either of them. I wouldn't be able to forgive her if she murdered a pet hamster to hurt me, let alone a whole human being 😡😡
***
Hopefully, he will be lucky enough not to meet you in his next life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
***
Oh, boo-hoo.
Tumblr media
How terrible for your mother and you that your delusions of grandeur are just that. Delusions. Classism is hell of a drug.
I hope you get squashed.
***
Do it!! Please! Make my day!!
Tumblr media
***
LMAO, WHAT HARMONIOUS RELATIONSHIP?
Tumblr media
You have literally had people raped and kidnapped, and very likely murdered. And here you are, threatening to murder more. The cognitive dissonance, I cannot 🤣🤣
***
Oh, yes, your daughter is going to be so happy in this marriage 🙄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sooooooo happy!! Everything a loving parent would want for their child 🙄🙄
They are all literally insane. Unlimited power and wealth have rotted their brains.
***
That this needs to be spelled out for him is just 🤯🤯
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, like, we don't even go as far as Consort Yong. His own shitty mother could and would do this if he was to somehow elope with Minglan. This is also why there is absolutely no chance the Sheng family would allow this marriage to happen without the Duke and Duchess of Qi fully onboard and Minglan would never do anything that would jeopardise her entire family, such as run off with him without their permission.
***
MTE, Qi Heng, I fully agree with you on this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why anyone would bother to even cross the street for your worthless ass, let alone bloody their hands to get you, is very much beyond me.
***
LMAO, YOU ARE A USELESS MOTHER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is not a "thing", he is a whole human and you are talking about marriage here, an entwining of lives. How happy is she going to be, married to a man who resents her? Who married her only because you threatened to kill his parents and the woman he loves? Are you serious? OK, I can buy that an endlessly indulged princess will have the brain power and impulse control of a toddler and may not be able to see the full consequences of this, but what is your excuse? Moreover, what is your husband's excuse? All of you have worms for brains.
***
I'VE BEEN SAYING!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why must you make me agree with Qi Heng, smh?
Anyway, I can't wait to watch Zhu Yilong in something else. No love for this particular character but he's really fantastic, very subtle and very expressive.
***
Oh, thank god.
Tumblr media
Hopefully, now Minglan can let him go and go back to being her usual intelligent self. This doomed side ship has been getting on my last nerve.
***
What the absolute fuck are you talking about, Gu Tingye? I thought you were supposed to be smart and looking out for Minglan!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, please kidnap a fucking Imperial princess and see how well that works out both for the House of Qi and Sheng!
Why is everyone stupid all of a sudden?
***
How is Yuanruo the one speaking common sense all of a sudden?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gu Tingye, what the fuck is wrong with you?

omg i have a request... like a scenario type with vampire mercs (norm or yandere i dont mind either) and a vampire hunter s/o? I am THINKING very normally about this hehe
Ahhh, love this! I'm so weak for all things vampiric and gothic, but in general I keep my requests 4 characters max. Sorry if this is so few, but I'd prefer to really go in depth with a few than to shallow-ly touch on all the mercs, (with very rare exception) but you're free to asks for others when requests open back up,. I hope you're ok with the characters I chose to feature here! :) (Also note, I refer to demo and Engie as living with demons who, for the sake of the story are meant to stand in for Medic's medical equipment/weapons and Engie's machines respectively.)
Characters: Demo 🐏, Engie 🦫, Heavy 🐻 and Medic 🕊️ (Team Fortress 2)
Rating: M (MINORS DNI)
Word Count: 2.6k

Medic
One of the elders of the vampires Medic's all too familiar with your type. He's been targeted by countless hunters over the years and managed to survive every encounter. He was never shy about killing and feeding and made many enemies with humans over the centuries. No one's managed to kill him yet though he had to admit you came closer than any he had remembered before. But Medic felt far more shaken than usual, discovering the demons you slaughtered to get to him.
He'd always been so fascinated by mortals and loved pursuing them at night, to watch the precious fear which tempted him onward before overpowering his victims with his enhanced strength. As a powerful, supernaturally charged vampire, he hardly considered mortals much of a threat, just a bit of a challenge keeping him from his next meal. When he was transformed into a vampire, he was blessed with a mystical charm, the ability to hypnotize humans who let their guard down around him and compel them to do as he pleased. Many vampires possessed the power of "suggestion," but Medic brought this to a new level. Typically he'd use this charm to instigate things to get mortals alone in a vulnerable, more suggestive state of mind before going in for the kill. Luring and stalking his victims just long enough to know what they feared and desired most, using that to his advantage.
Unlike so many misanthropic vampires, Medic was quite captivated by humans; he was turned into a vampire ages ago and, under the conditions of how he was turned, forgot all about what his life was before he became a vampire.
He regrets the lack of memories of his time among the living but tries his best to make up for it by learning all about humans in their lives now and is quite fickle in this regard. Finding a new obsession every time he dwells among the living to feed. His obsessions come and go as soon as he has his fill. It wasn't until he met you that he genuinely felt like he had met his match.
Not physically, of course; his sparring matches with you were more to stave off his boredom and for amusement than to actually try and kill you, but still, you had his attention all the same.
Sure, if he really wanted to best you, he could compel you to obey his sinister will and eliminate you in a matter of minutes, but where was the fun in that? You were prey unlike any he knew before, and he wanted to give you a violent and gruesome end worthy of the time the two of you shared together.
What Medic wants more than you under his total control is for you to come to him of your own volition. He wouldn't dare try to corrupt a mind so sharp and captivating as yours. While he dreams of being the one to deal your killing blow, he can't help but imagine how charming it would be for you to join his side. To become one with him, living in the night as his mate. Until then, this little ongoing battle would have to do.
Medic deluded himself into believing all your fighting and animosity was your unique way of trying to get his attention. Like you were only acting out because you were jealous of the others he spent his time with and fed upon.
You were so precious to him, and truly loved him deep down. You merely had an unconventional way of showing it. Medic would be the type to see you getting ganged up on by other monsters before jumping into action to save you, tearing the vile creatures to pieces, covering the two of you with the gore, only to stroke your hair and comfort you afterward. To ensure that you are all right and don't sustain any damage. He'd hold you tenderly in his arms as though cradling a baby bird while he whispered,
"The only one who gets to kill you is me. Is that understood?"
Heavy
Heavy has been out on his own for so long now, living in his eternal purgatory in isolation. He doesn't remember much of the past. It hurts too much to try and remember what he once had. But he knew he gave his life to protect his family from a vampire ages ago. Though in a cruel twist of fate, he managed to survive the attack only to wake up cold, alone, and ravenously hungry.
Unlike some vampires, Heavy had to slaughter a living creature every night to sustain this unbearable hunger. It wasn't exactly that he felt guilty for killing more that this was all a part of the balance of nature. It wasn't his fault he was so large, so capable of killing. The fact of the matter was that Heavy needed an awful lot of blood to survive, and it was the job of smaller prey creatures to provide for him.
So long as he mostly kept to himself, Heavy wouldn't worry about anyone bothering him, and he wouldn't bother anyone else. Animal blood kept him alive well enough, even if he gave into temptation, slaughtering masses of human livestock in a bout of gluttony, so long as he didn't drink from the living, everything was fine.
The fact that you managed to hunt him down and tried to target him in the first place was quite curious. He couldn't understand why one so small would bother trying to pick a fight with him of all vampires.
Heavy forgot how long he'd gone without interacting with another intelligent lifeform, and you caught him completely by surprise the first time you ran into him. It hurt all over again, remembering how long he'd been alone. How long it'd been since he'd seen the last of the family he knew as a living mortal, he tried so hard to forget for centuries, but you wouldn't let him.
When he was a younger vampire, he was so cruel and bitter, taking his frustrations out on his food, tearing whatever poor creature was his dinner that night to shreds leaving trails of carnage behind, but now he was more efficient. Though it still required a great deal of blood to sustain a creature of his size, he wasn't so careless anymore. Encountering you was a break from the regular routine it had been sometimes since he met prey that managed to put up such a fight.
While he wasn't blessed with otherworldly charms or powers of hypnosis, his already powerful physical abilities were somehow the only things amplified by vampirism, and trying to take you in a fight felt cruel. But if this was a fight you wanted to pick, he supposed he had no choice but to satisfy you.
At first, he was mainly apathetic to your existence. You were stubborn and hard to kill, but you were still just a tiny human fighting a supernatural entity, and it was only a matter of time before that caught up with you. During a particularly heated battle, you finally slipped up, realizing too late you were out of silver arrows and defenseless when you felt his hands drawing around your neck. But when he finally got close for the first time in his life, Heavy decided to spare his prey. And just a moment away from dealing the killing blow, he hesitated, halting for long enough for you to escape.
Later that day, he lay restlessly wondering where this change of heart came from and couldn't stop himself from dreaming about what it would be like to take you under his wing. Thinking about sharing a more domestic, peaceful life with you. In his eyes, you were the last remaining tether he had to the human world, and killing you would sever that bond for who knows how long.
He dreamed of harnessing your fiery human spirit, training you to work at his side, and showing you how to hunt from the shadows, creeping silently and evading human attention.
From then on, he'd be anticipating your arrival. Wondering if it was wiser to jump right into the action and turn you into a vampire the first chance he could or to wait for the hunter to come to him. The time spent awaiting your return was agony, painfully aware of his loneliness while you were no doubt back home, licking your wounds, hopefully regaining your strength enough to rechallenge him. He desperately missed the feeling of your warm skin against his cold body, your precious blood pumping away, practically begging for him to take a bite.
Demo
He was a vampire with a fearsome reputation known for his explosive anger and the bloodshed he brought with him. However, the supernatural powers he was blessed with were almost more akin to a werewolf's than a vampire's. Demo was blessed with the gift of rage, the ability to manifest every ounce of his anger and lay ways to whatever poor soul was stupid enough to invoke it.
But it wasn't just rage which captivated Demo, but hedonism in all forms. Unlike many vampires, Demo liked to keep around a few humans to amuse himself with. Not precisely to a consensual agreement, but a mutually beneficial one. He would keep his captives fed and safe, and they would provide him sustenance in return, and it wasn't long until the hostage began to grow comfortable and compliant. Demo found blood tasted much better when laced with pleasure, far better than fear, and he loved to wait until the last moment, when his captives were comfortable, before draining them of their delicious blood.
Even when Demo feeds from his harem before going in for the kill, the man is well-practiced and knows how to make the feeding sessions as pleasurable for the victim as it is for him.
All this was quite familiar for Demo, humans were easy prey at the end of the day, and even the holiest and most righteous would eventually succumb to the flesh's temptations. The process was familiar, but the pleasure was sweet all the same. When he did have to fight back, it only made the inevitable meal all the more precious. He loved when people played hard to get, and there wasn't a human alive who managed to escape him and his temptations.
You were so adorably feisty and stubborn the first time he crossed you. A cute little mortal who wanted to play Van Helsing, using your little toys of pure silver, holy water, and scriptures to keep him back.
Though Demo was amused, he was impressed at how well you managed to keep him away. After all, holy relics and verses only worked against the supernatural if you really believed and put all your faith into your words calling upon your deity to protect you. You were a fighter, that's for sure, and the way you were so confident God would protect you from demons like him. It was almost enough for him to spare you, but how could he deny himself a feast such as yourself?
Not only were you pious, but you could also physically fight him back, a rare combination greater than any he'd encountered. Most who tried to protect themselves with holy relics would begin to doubt when he really let out his rage, but somehow, you didn't falter. Not even for a moment. It would be an honor to be the vampire who finally managed to conquer your pure heart and turn you into one of his own. The only issue is how hard it would be to catch you.
While your faith appeared, unshakable Demo would still plant seeds of doubt in your mind whenever he could. Promising you pleasures beyond your wildest dreams, endless time to spend pursuing knowledge of whatever you wanted, powerful supernatural abilities you could conjure at will, and trying to use a bit of materialism to sweeten the deal. Promises, more specifically, to convince you to align with him. Demo telling you about how he would spoil you with riches, the most beautiful clothes, the finest of jewels, anything your heart desired would be yours. All you had to do was submit. It was meant to be, so why resist?
Engie
Out of all the vampires, he was the least happy to be sought out by a hunter.
He didn't want to end up like this. He didn't want to kill to survive, and being hunted down by you was just another cruel reminder of how far he'd strayed from humanity and how no matter how hard he wanted it, there was no place left for him among the living.
Furthermore, unlike Medic, who was apathetic to the slaughter of his demons, he felt personally offended as he was much more compassionate and personal with the demons who lived with him. Engie hated you before he met you, wanting to kill whoever was responsible for damaging his property slowly and painfully.
But you were far from easy prey. And no matter how hard Engie tries to take you down, you somehow always manage to remain just a touch out of reach. The game of cat and mouse is far less endearing to Engie than it was to any of the other vampires.
Eventually, he became increasingly obsessed with the hunt, spending his waking hours preparing for your next ambush, dreaming about the night he would capture and slaughter you. Avenging all his creations you destroyed before now.
As much as he didn't want to admit it, his obsession with you grew as fervently as the hunt itself, culminating with the day Engie decided to try to stalk you during the daylight. Engie was a younger vampire, native to a sunny climate. He never found sunlight to be as unbearable as it was to other vampires, so long as he didn't linger in direct light. Direct sunlight was unpleasant, but it wouldn't burn him to ashes as it would to elder vampires. The real reason he stayed on his own more was to stay away from crowds and give into a feeding frenzy.
He wasn't prepared to be so taken aback by your human vitality. The freshness of life pumping through you, giving you a rare kind of beauty he never saw from any sort of prey before now. You were nothing less than radiant in the light of the sun, a deity incarnate. Your skin flushed with life, your voice pleasant and calm, and your smile all appeared ethereal as though he had seen you for the first time. Engie never thought he'd see you as anything but a mortal enemy, yet at this moment, he was undone. All his resentment and hostility felt so trivial now. He didn't want your hatred. He wanted your adoration. He needed to have you all to himself, but not to kill.
If he couldn't kill you, he thought it was only just to turn you into a vampire.
Only then would his loneliness and resentment for being a vampire be satisfied, and you would be forced to rely on him to survive the strange new existence. All newborn vampires were fragile, and it wouldn't be hard for him to keep you from running away.
Not to mention the bond shared between vampires and their scion would help do away with all the hatred you held for Engie in life. No matter how hard you thought you hated him, once Engie sank his fangs into you and infected you with his venom, it was only a matter of time until your will crumbled as you gave in to the surreal newfound devotion you developed for your vampire mate. All resistance was futile, your rational mind silenced as your primal vampiric urges began to take over.

hi ash, do you have a fic rec list of miraculous fics that you have enjoyed? 👀 i’ve watched miraculous for years and been a fan but i’m new to reading miraculous fics 🐞❤️🐈‍⬛💚
i can try! i actually don't read a lot of fanfic, but i can recommend a few I've read that I've enjoyed :) most are one-shots.
Experimental Kisses by MireilleTanaka (komorebirei) Summary: Ladybug watched him. Maybe it was guilt, maybe sympathy, maybe a streak of playfulness. Maybe the traumatic akuma experience had softened her up. Whatever the reason, a thought wafted lazily through her mind and out of her mouth. “You know… you’re right. It isn’t fair, is it?” Chat Noir looked up. “I remember my first kiss, but you don’t.” She hummed and tapped her chin, making a show of remembering. “It wasn’t a bad kiss, but we were in the middle of fighting an akuma, so I didn’t get to enjoy it much, either.” Oops—that came out sounding a little, no, a lot more flirty than she had intended. Anyway, if she was going to commit to this idea, she may as well go all in. Rating: T Comments: a very cute ladynoir kiss fic. i really like the way the author wrote the kisses here!
i think it’s time i told you (i’m a fan of your universe) by a_miiraculer, clairelutra Summary: Years after Hawkmoth’s defeat, Ladybug and Chat Noir have a conversation about life, love, and marriage. Rating: T Comments: a WONDERFUL little one-shot where chat noir buys a ring, and ladybug wonders who it's for. ladynoir.
where roses bloom by @carpisuns Summary: “You’re sick, aren’t you?” He drops down to the balcony. “You’re sick because you love someone and … they don’t love you back.” (Love square Hanahaki AU, Marichat centric) Rating: T Comments: i LOVE LOVE LOVE this fic. a bittersweet marichat centric Hanahaki AU that makes my heart feel things. please read it
whose woods these are (I think I know.) by Reiaji Summary: Four years after his future turns to cinders, Adrien is a servant in the house he was meant to inherit. Disowned by his father and abused by his stepmother, his days are filled with drudgery until he meets a masked huntress in the forest behind his father's chateau. As his friendship with Ladybug turns to first love, he dreams of a future spent at her side. Then, on the eve of the Princess's masquerade, he meets his guardian—and is granted a wish. [Ladrien Cinderella AU] Rating: T Comments: magical ladrien cinderella au. it wouldn't be a fic rec list by me if i didn't recommend the fic that i still think about on a daily basis. the poetic writing, the story, the characters, just...AUGH. i cant even describe how good this story is. I'll admit i wasn't into it at first but by the time i got near the end i COULD NOT PUT THIS FIC DOWN. very good please read. multichapter
Eating (nothing but) Affection by crownedcrusader Summary: Some cats won't eat unless they feel safe. Unless someone they trust is nearby, keeping them company. Unrelated: Adrien has pushed away so many cold meals that he can't eat if he's alone. Rating: G Comments: a sweet fic where adrien doesn't like to eat alone. his friends notice this.
Probably Not The Best Idea by @coffeebanana Summary: When Adrien first offered Ladybug his spare room, it was mostly joke. Not once in a million years did he think she'd actually take him up on the offer. After all, he's the only one who's hopelessly in love. Right? For her part, Ladybug never meant to make a habit out of visiting Adrien. But now that she has, well…spending time with him feels safe. It feels right. So why not give this roommates thing a try? Surely it'll be nice, not having to hide her hero identity in her own home for once, even if she has to hide her civilian identity instead. All in all, it might not be the best idea they've ever had, but…can it really be the worst? And if they happen to get a little more than they bargained for in the process? That's just part of the fun. Rating: T Comments: VERY cute premise, excellent writing, ladrien roommates who are obviously in love with each other, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR GO READ IT. multichapter
œuf ouch owie by miraculousunflower (ominousunflower) Summary: Chat Noir enlists Rena Rouge's help to create an Aspik illusion. Absolutely nothing goes wrong. Rating: T Comments: literally the funniest gd fic I've ever read in my life. I've never had a fic actually make me laugh out loud before and this one did. i still go back and reread it when i need a laugh. it's like a shitpost in artistic form
L'Autonomie by @xiueryn Summary: After three years, Marinette tells Chat Noir who she is. The only problem is that he doesn't believe her, insisting that her and Marinette couldn't be the same person. With the knowledge he's close to her, she tries to figure out who he is. AU. (mari finds out adrien is chat noir and has fun planting clues to make him believe she's ladybug.) Rating: T Comments: a silly ladynoir and adrinette reveal fic. ladybug tries to convince chat noir she is marinette. he doesn't believe her. it's adorable and i love it
i hope this is enough! happy reading ♥

We'll meet again
the plot is: (Y/n) started a new life, but every day she feels more and more lonely.
tw: a short episode with being attacked by a thief, Alastor is little bit out of character and he also lives through some trouble times, possibly grammar mistakes (english is not my mother-tongue.) I guess that's all. Well, maybe a little bit angst but there will be a happy ending (if I may call it like this)
I'm sorry it took so long, I had another busy week at university. I guess fics will appear once every in seven to ten days
The part three, by your side
*. ⋆ ✧.·:·.* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *.·:·.✧ *. ⋆
(Y/n) had been living in New Orleans for three years already. She liked this city very much. It captivated her with its charm and picturesque streets.
She had a job that didn't bring her much earnings, but brought her a lot of joy. She made the podcasts about literature. (Y/n) usually told about classics but she loved the most to tell about the older books, that were not popular in modern world. She liked to popularize the unknown, yet interesting books, because their influence was as strong as the influence of more popular stories.
From the money that was her dowry she bought a house. It located outskirts and stood alone near a forest, so (Y/n) felt herself like she was at home, but nobody demanded anything of her now. She also liked this house being near the forest, because it was very important to her to be close to nature. She did her strolls under the majestic branchy trees almost everyday and couldn't hide a smile when she understood how many deer lived in this area.
People said that this house once belonged to a famous radio host who was also a serial killer, whose crimes were discovered only after his death. He buried a body in the forest and a hunter mistook him for a deer and shot him.
(Y/n) softly smiled when she first heard this story. It was just a hearsay, a very old story, but (Y/n) liked the thought that she lived in the house of her devil.
When (Y/n) moved in her new house, the neighbours knew about it only after a week. Her nearest neighbours, a married couple with already grown-up children, who lived in fifteen minutes walk, came to her to congratulate with the new home. (Y/n) gave them a welcome, not too warm, and never let anyone in again.
She got a reputation of an unsociable and reserved lady very quickly. Nobody knew where she was from. Her speech was strange. She had a strange accent and knew many languages, but she didn't speak any of them as it was her native. She seemed out of this world. She usually appeared on the streets early in the morning or in the late evening. She wore long dresses, a long pearl beads like in 20's and a black veil, covering the upper part of her face.
She didn't have much aquaintences, didn't have friends. Sometimes she went to the city to the meetings to discuss some business, connected with her podcast. Rarely (Y/n) invited somebody in her place. It was only women. But she never let them to cross the threshold. (Y/n) and her guests sat in the garden in the backyard and chated about something.
(Y/n) liked her life in New Orleans. She didn't feel alone, didn't feel any pressure of her family. She felt absolutely free and safe.
The one thing that didn't leave her mind was he.
She missed him every day.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
Once in the late evening she was on her way home from the studio. She recorded an excellent podcast! She was sure, it wouldn't be popular, but it wasn't the main thing. She did her job because she liked it. All she had to do is to read, to write scenarios, to talk about her favorite topics and then she just had to apply the necessary effects and cut out what didn’t sound very good. That day she talked about a German novel from neinteenth century.
"Salutations, my dear hearers! Today I will tell you about the miraculous story of Peter Schlemihl. The man without his shadow... Hahaha! Oh, my! whenever I read this story I can't stop laughing! I'm very sorry for Peter and for his solitude, of course, but don't you think that he could benefit from his position? I mean, he had no shadow, so what?! People should be afraid of him, but instead of it, he was afraid of them! I find it quiet pathetic..."
"Moreover he had the devil's help by his side. But he failed to benefit from the deal. He chose money, another stupid decision of him. I would choose something more potent, what I could you use both on earth and in hell."
"Well, I shouldn't to tell you everything at once, when you probably haven't even read this book. So, let me to discuss the author's life with you, it was no less entertaining."
She enjoyed that day. She was walking along the road on the grass and thought about devils, shadows, contracts...
(Y/n) thought about Alastor. About his voice, which she hadn't heard for three years already; she thought about his smile, words, touches, protection.
His protection.
"What on earth does "choose wisely" means?" (Y/n) muttered, "Won't I stop trusting anyone the moment they attack me? Well, let's imagine. I did trust somebody, and allow them to be too close to me, but the moment they, for example, raise a knife over me, they wouldn't be the ones I trust anymore, would they? But why then does this point exist at all?"
(Y/n) didn't know that the answer was on her way.
She heard steps behind her and turned back. She saw a silhouette. It was in several meters behind her, quickly steping forward. (Y/n) saw that this person had a gored skirt and a leather coat.
"Only a woman," (Y/n) thought and breathed a sight of relief.
She turned around and continued her way, trying to remember what she was thinking about.
She walked without thoughts for some time. The night air was chill, and she breathed it with pleasure.
Suddenly the steps behind her became louder, and, before (Y/n) could thought anything, she felt that something squeezed her neck. Something thin cut into her skin. She began to suffocate. (Y/n) tried to remove that thing from her neck, but it was too tight. She heard the woman's voice behind her, "Hush, everything will be alright, I won't hurt you." (Y/n) felt that she was losing consciousness. Her eyes rolled up and legs gave way.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
As she opened her eyes, she felt a strong headache. With a weak moan she sat. She felt dizzy, but cool and wet morning air made her feel better. It was dawning. The sky was grey. A light fog surrounded her. The crows croaked in the woods. It was still dark but just in several minutes the sun would rise. How long had she been lying on the road? She touched her neck and saw little blood stains on her fingertips.
That woman... What did she do?
(Y/n) checked her bag and understood that that woman robbed her.
So what did that mean? It meant that (Y/n) relaxed when she saw, that she was stalked by a woman. (Y/n) never thought that any woman could rob the other one. She sighed deeply, stood up and slowly headed for her home. Her knees were shaking.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
She looked in the mirror. Pale face, dirty hair, a red line on her neck. It looked like (Y/n) was beheaded and then put her head on the place again.
She took a bath, treated the wound, changed her clothes. She was depressed and didn't want to think about anything.
In silence she moved to the desk where she worked. The best way no to think about anything is working. So now she was going to edit her last podcast.
When she heard her own voice, deriding the shadowless man, she couldn't help watch at her shadow. It was deeply black as usual, so black that it could be seen even in the darkness of the night. Just like on the road last night. Did that woman noticed the anomaly? (Y/n) didn't know, but even if so, the woman didn't run away in fear, she made her to lose consciousness and robbed her. The woman didn't care about who or what was (Y/n), the woman only wanted to get what she desired.
So maybe she wasn't the only one like that? Other people, desired something and saw no obstacles, they also did not care about essence of her and her shadow.
That meant that if (Y/n) wanted to be never harmed, she couldn't trust anyone.
She looked at her shadow again. At his shadow. She craved for seeing him again. It was so long.
She stood up, brought a candlestick from the living-room and matches from the kitchen and headed for a corridor at the far end of the house.
This corridor was the longest in the house and it was dead-ended. If the killer from the past had kept his victims in this house, and if they had tried to escape, they would probably have been caught in this hallway.
When (Y/n) moved to the house, she did some minor renovations: changed the wallpaper, updated the furniture that was too old and falling apart. She left the paintings, photos even and hunting trophies. A lot of antlers were hanging on the walls in this long and broad corridor.
She stopped in front of the dead-ended wall. It was also the darkest place in the house, as it had no windows. The only source of light were the candles in the sconce. She placed the candlestick on the floor and sat between it and the wall back to the candles, so a big black shadow fell on the yellow wallpaper.
She was waiting. Just give him time and he'll come.
Slowly the shadow grew bigger. Antlers grew on its head big as the branches of a tree. Its shoulders became sharper and its neck lengthened. An old radio, which she thought was no longer working, suddenly turned on. A soft white noise filled the hallway. She didn't move when she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"I apologize, my dear, but I cannot be by your side right now," He said very quietly, she barely heard him because of the crackling. She didn't say anything.
"I have some business... that I must complete." He said it, drowning in the white noise more. She knew it meant that he was exasperated.
"Are you in hell now?" (Y/n) asked without taking eyes from the macabre shadow.
"I am, dear." His voice became softer. "We met in wrong time, mon cher..." Quiet calmy crackle. "I wish we could meet more often."
"I was attacked." (Y/n) said as soon as he finished his sentence. Not because she didn't want to listen to him. The point was her eyes we're filling with tears as she heard his tender whispering. She didn't want to cry if he couldn't wipe of her tears away.
The corridor filled with a nervous crackling. It took long enough for him to answer.
"And how could it happened? Don't you trust anyone?"
"It was a woman," She answered, as it could explain anything.
"Ah, now I see."
Somnolent noise filled the air again. She noticed how strange he was this time. He usually knew what to say and never kept silence for too long.
"Tell me, how are you, dear?"
"I'm fine."
She couldn't take this suffocating atmosphere anymore. Suddenly she wanted to scream his name, to cry, to crash the radio, where he was hiding. She felt hate and despair, love and hope.
The shadow moved, as if the candles' flame was disturbed by somebody's inaccurate movement. The white noise almost disappeared, and she felt somebody's presence behind.
She was still sitting on the floor and saw two shadows on the yellow wall. Her usual, yet too black, shadow and his one, with deer ears, little cute antlers and a cane in the hand. His shadow leaned over her and she felt his breath on her cheek and then her neck.
"It won't work that way," he whispered, looking at the red line, crossing her neck. "Are you sure, you don't want to rewrite the contract?" She heard a smile in his words.
"I assure you that it will not happen again. No one can even come close to me."
"I see," (Y/n) could feel like his words touching her skin. She was glad, she was sitting on the floor, otherwise she could fall because her knees were too weak.
Their shadows blended in one.
His wet lips gently touched her wound. She felt his sharp fangs on her skin. (Y/n) didn't want to move away, she wanted to press herself to his mouth. Alastor raised his head higher, leaving a trace of hot breath on her cold skin, and left a kiss on the crown of her head.
She saw Alator's shadow bent in the waist and his head touching hers, when he left the gentle quick kiss.
He straightened up.
"Remember your words, dear. I don't want to see any wounds on you, unless I gave them," He chuckled. "Until we meet again, dear."
The sound of his footsteps faded away until another radio crackle was heard. It spilled over into an old song, repeating his last words.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
Since that day (Y/n) became more isolated. She stopped to invite anybody even in her garden. Her reputation of an uncommunicative woman became stronger. She only read books, recorded podcasts and made her forest strolls, which became more frequent.
(Y/n) didn't feel lonely.
Since last meeting of her and Alastor, the shadow became more independent. When (Y/n) was alone, the shadow could change its form, it smiled and grimaced. Sometimes it could even take a physical form. Then (Y/n) could even touch it.
Slowly the shadow turned into something more than a dark figure underfoot. It became her friend.
*. ⋆ ✧.·:·.* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *.·:·.✧ *. ⋆
Several years had passed. (Y/n) had fame and yet she still was the biggest mystery for her listeners and residents. But she had tired of her loneliness. She didn't want to accept that she could feel lack of intimacy. All this years she ignored that feeling, but every day it became stronger. It was eating her alive. The shadow was friend, indeed, it protected her and saved in time of need, from both men and women. People dissapered and nobody could find any trace of them. It brought (Y/n) joy at first, but with time she tired of suspicious glances and the strangers under her windows. They were so annoying...
His shadow could even touch her, it could embrace her, they even danced sometimes, but she still felt like something was missing.
It was like you watch at a home landscape and understands that something has changed, but you can't understand what. Until you notice that an old tall tree didn't touched the sky with its green leaves anymore.
She couldn't deny that she missed Alastor. Not just felt longing for him, she felt like she had missed him, as if she had lost him. This feeling grew stronger with everyday.
"I need him more then ever," (Y/n) thought. Being without him felt like a torture. The feeling of losing him scared her. Couldn't he die in the hell? She didn't want to even think about it. The pain grew stronger, when she realised that it was his home town, it was his house, it was his shadow. He was everywhere, and yet never beside her. Just a torture.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
"I WANT YOU TO FUCKING COME!" She screamed at the top oh her voice; so load that her throat hurt. She suffocated with sobbing. She felt so furious. (Y/n) had cast the spell for three times already, but he hadn't come.
She needed him, she wanted him; why was he ignoring her call?
She hated him that moment and hated herself. He promised to come whenever she wanted him, but he had been ignoring her for all these years.
"ALASTOR!"
Suddenly a flash of bright green light filled the room. Shadow tentacles were moving in the the fog. In this explosion (Y/n) saw his figure. Alastor was down on all fours, as if he was suffocating from pain. When the green fog disappeared (Y/n) noticed that his eyes were coloured in black. He glanced at her from under his forehead, and his eyes changed into their usual crimson colour. His red hair stood on end, his teeth were sharper than usual, the tails of his frock coat were tore. All his appearance told (Y/n) that something had happened with him. She had never seen him... so weak.
He looked away and stood up. The macabre lights and shadows disappeared. He looked normally now. Alastor stood opposite (Y/n) with his shoulders wide and with a self-satisfied smile.
"Verily, my dear, your command is much stronger then powers of overlords of hell."
She stood silently. He had come. Tears of rage ran down her face.
"Why, my dear!" Alastor exclaimed in surprise, "What has happened?" He made a step forward her and leaned over, "Why are you crying?"
She looked at him with her eyes burning with anger, "Why? Why?! You're asking me why?!"
Alastor didn't expect such fit of anger. He drew himself up and let her to continue. As she screamed, she gesticulated wildly, pulled her hair and looked at him like mad.
She didn't care who she was yelling at. She was devilishly angry and wanted to let all her anger out. He didn't stop her, letting her to vent all the emotions, even if he found it extremely senseless.
"I've been crying for you for..! for four years! I tried to summon you for numerous times! And you never showed up! Tell me, is the hell so far, that you can't even hear my screams, my cries, my prayers to you?!"
Her fury almost frightened him, and he thought what a powerful overlord could she be. Even a human she was frightful. She knew black magic, she didn't care for people's lives, she loved only herself and her power. But her words made him to feel pain I'm his chest. She was so deeply hurt. He was the cause of the pain, and for the first time in his life, he didn't like it.
She stopped screaming. She breathed more heavily and looked at him with teaful eyes. Pain in his chest became stronger.
Alastor said, pressing his hand to the chest, "I am ever so sorry, my dear. I apologize. There are some forces... That I can't resist."
(Y/n) was silence for several minutes. He couldn't understand what was on her mind. And then she said the thing Alastor didn't expect to hear, "I forgive you."
These words hit him. She said it so seriously, with clear eyes. He always tried to act like a gentleman, as his mother though him, but when he apologized, he always felt superior to others. He looked up on others with a wide smile. He found it funny, how he could to say "magic words" and then people or demons actually could take their armour off. But was he like that towards her? She was hurt by him indeed and yet she forgave him. Alastor understood that he needed her to forgive him, and that he apologized with all his heart. He felt sorry that they hadn't seen for so long. He missed (Y/n). And he was also glad that she summoned him in the moment, when he was in a quiet unpleasant situation. So, he was assuredly sincere.
But still he was amazed.
She looked at him, already calmed down. Alastor stared at her in wonder.
"We all have some... Difficult things to do sometimes, don't we?"
"Yes, indeed, dear."
(Y/n) looked at grandfather clock and asked Alastor, "And I suppose we don't have so much time, do we?"
He looked at the time too. If he weren't in the state he was now, they would have a lot more time.
"I'm afraid you're right, dear."
"How long?" She still looked at the clock.
"Until the dawn, I believe," He said quietly, coming closer to her.
"Only six hours," Murmured (Y/n) and turned to Alastor so quickly, he stopped in wonder, "Then you will do everything I ask."
"And I ask you now," She continued, because Alastor was silent, "to stay with me for this night, and you won't disappear or go away."
"If you wish, my dear."
(Y/n) took a candlestick from a commode.
"Follow me," She said.
* ☽ ・ 。゚・ ☾ *
Alastor followed her through the dark corridors lightend only by the candles in her hand. The walls were lined with woods, the furniture was old-fashioned, some floorboards creaked underfoot. He couldn't take his eyes off every object that arose in the dim candlelight, when they passed by. Alastor knew, if (Y/n) weren't here with her light he still would have found the way to the bedroom where they headed for. Everything was very familiar. His heart was aching.
"My dear, tell me, is this house- "
"Your house?" She interrupted him, not turning back, "Yes, it is."
Alastor heard smile in her words.
"Honestly, I didn't know it was yours when I bought it. Well, I was told that a serial killer lived here, but I thought it was just a commercial. But I understood that it was true, when I realised how hard it was to get it. After all, I had enough money to buy anything I wanted to."
"So they remember me?"
"Of course they do!"
Alastor was pleasantly surprised. He was an unknown serial killer and a famous radio host when he was alive. He liked his double life, but he liked more when people were afraid of him. And he was a little sorry, that no one knew about his crimes, when he was alive. And when (Y/n) told him the legends about him, how children frightened each other with stories of his deeds, Alastor was glad.
They came up to the bedroom door. (Y/n) stopped and asked Alastor to wait outside the door until she changed her clothes. As she disappeared behind the door, her shadow slipped under the door, mergering with his one. He tipped his head, looking at it.
In the bedroom (Y/n) changed her dress to a cotton nightgown in nineteenth century style. She turned on the lamps on the night tables and saw her shadow. It was her own shadow. Pale, dim, so abnormal. (Y/n) thought how defective looked her shadow without deep black colour of him.
She hastened to the door and let Alastor in. As he entered, the shadow backed to her. She breathed a sight of relief, but she thought about her addiction to the power and him.
She slowly came up to a big bed and lay under the blanket. The demon stood still in front of the bed. It wasn't his mother's bed, that once stood hear in this room. Some thoughts from his past filled his mind.
"Com here," He heard (Y/n)'s voice. She sat in the bed, surrounded by dark-red and white pillows. Her hair was plaited, naking her neck; she looked innocent in the nightdress, fit loosely on her body.
"Pardon?"
"I said," She said with a smile, beating each word with her palm on the mattress, "Come. Here."
He slowly came up, and sat down next to her. She glanced at him with a blink of fun in her eyes.
"Tell me," She said with a sly smile, "Do you have hooves?"
Alastor looked at her frowning but still with a smile.
"Just wondering," She smiled softly, "I just can't let you in my bed unless you take off your shoes."
She looked extremely cunning but he still saw traces of sadness in her eyes. He definitely didn't like what she invented to do, yet he took his shoes off and even his coat and lay beside her.
(Y/n) looked down on him and lay.
They looked at each other in silence in dim lightened room. She didn't realise how much she missed his crimson eyes, his wide sly smile, his funny sharpe ended nose and his deer ears. Several minutes ago she was so mad, she could kill him. Now she thought that to spend time together was much worth than any fights. (Y/n) moved closer to him and lay her head on his chest. Alastor turned on the side, so she clung closer to him. One of his hand laid under her head, other one embraced her waist. Alastor knew, her height was above average, but in his arms she still was very small.
"Do you demons ever sleep?" She wispered.
"Yes, dear, we do," He answered with a quite chuckle, "But not me, I'm afraid. Insomnia."
(Y/n) felt heat of his body. She clung even closer to get warm. Alastor's touches and breath were very hot; his breath tickled her skin; his right hand patted her head, and his left one squeezed her waist. She felt his claws gently touching her scalp and it gave shiver down her spine. The atmosphere of dark bedroom, his soft touches and quite radio crackling, his warm made her eyes close.
"I'm afraid to fall asleep." She mumbled and opened her eyes. Alastor saw her eyelashes were trembling.
"Why, my dear?"
"I want to feel you presence," She spoke very quietly, "but if I fell asleep, I wouldn't feel you anymore. And I want to spend every twinkle we have together."
(Y/n) felt his breath above her head and how he pressed his lips to the crown of her head. Then he pulled slightly back to look at her, and he saw tears in her eyes. He didn't like tears, especially when it was so much of them. With his long forefinger Alastor gently wiped her tears away.
"My dear," His voice was very low, "What is use of crying? I'm here. Wasn't that you wish?"
"It was, right, I just... Uh. Well, I missed you much and now..." She hid her head in Alastor's chest. She remembered last four years. And three years before it. The memory of her pale shadow flashed in her mind and (Y/n) shrank. It seemed like she wanted to bury herself in his rib cage. "To be honest I don't like my life. It feels like a threshold of life. Your power and protection freshed me, but I still feel like I don't belong to this world."
Alastor silently listened to her. Her breath became more intermittent, and he understood that she was crying again.
"I hate myself for being addicted to you, and yet I'm still like this. I'm so weak, so pathetic. I'm not even sure if you want my soul... It's the darkest and the coldest place in the whole Universe. It is more greedy and merciless than the Black Hole. But there is the only star in it. Just one warm star. And it burns for you. For you only, whatever you like it or not."
Alastor was impressed with her such poetic speech, but for the woman who had spent her entire life communicating only with books, this was normal, he thought.
"The only star in her soul that burns only for him," He thought. Such a lost girl. Such a lost soul. But he felt a strange longing for her. He didn't understand it and didn't like it. But he couldn't help it. Just as she couldn't stop her tears, he couldn't stop himself to touch her, to press his lips against her head, to call her "dear" putting a special meaning into the word.
She looked into his eyes and then looked down at his lips. They were the same colour as his skin — grey. She was looking there for too long, and Alastor raised an eyebrow, smiling expectantly. She leaned to him, but Alastor shown his teeth in a smile and moved a little bit back. (Y/n) smiled to him and left a kiss on his forehead. Alastor felt his cheeks pinked up.
"I'm sorry," She wispered and buried herself in his chest again. She didn't cry anymore, just lay in his arms movelsee as if she was already dead.
He was thinking. It could really be the last night they spend together. He didn't know when he would be free again. He tried to do everything that was possible, but it was still not enough to get back his freedom, to find the backdoor of that deal. But while he was here, in this house and in this room, with (Y/n) by his side, he could not to think about it.
Alastor made a decision. He made (Y/n) lie on her back and leaned over her. She opened her eyes in wonder, as he put one on his hand on her shoulder so she couldn't move. (Y/n) tried to bend her knees but touched his foot, no, his hoof. It gave her a very strange feeling, making her blushed. Alastor made the lamps to light even dimmer, and (Y/n) could see now, that his eyes radiated the red light. She opened her month to say something, but he leaned lower and kissed her. It was a long, deep kiss. His mouth was hot and wet, and she slowly closed her eyes. The metallic taste filled her mouth and she felt the touch of his tongue. She quietly moaned, and he pressed closer. His hands were searching her body; the lamps lighted up brightly and then go out again; she embraced him tight; sometimes she gently touched his ears and softly laughed, when they twitched, and he looked at her with assumed displeasure.

After several days the newspapers told about a woman died in the forest near her house, in the house where a famous serial killer had once lived, and in the forest where the killer had died. It was after two weeks since (Y/n) and Alastor had met for the fourth time. After that night she woke up alone. She was the happiest and the saddest person in the same time. She went to the woods and didn't appear again. Some of her colleagues became worried and decided to visit her, dispite the fact tha she didn't receive anyone. The house was silent, and they checked the garden that was also empty. And then they went to the forest. They were looking for her for several hours and found her under a tree, a big and wide pine. A young deer bent over her body. It disappeared into the depths of the forest, seeing people. Her body had already begun the process of rotting. It was hard to name the cause of her death. There were only theories. People called the house where she had lived cursed. They told eerie stories about the deer in the woods. What a strange animal, they told, one man was mistook for a one and got shot, and other woman was guarded by the same animal. Residents noticed that with the death of the woman, people stopped disappearing without a trace. But none of the bodies were ever found. So New Orleans residents decided, that the famous podcast host was the murderer, and that she had a unique way of disposal of the bodies. People made up legends about a foreign woman who killed her enemies, guarded by the spirit of a last-century killer and who was friends with his shadow...

Bucky was in a haze. His fingers were trembling and he felt his heart racing to get out of his chest. He didn't know what he was doing, but he let his body guide him because there had to be a reason for all that, for all that fuss, for all that suffering. His feet hurt, he didn't even know how long he had been running for, but not even the rest of the team following behind him had made him stop until now. (Maybe they didn't want to stop him either.)
Maybe he was already in the middle of that city. There were too many buildings, sounds of car horns, the hurried footsteps of people walking past him, tapping his shoulder, not even looking at him as if he didn't even deserve to be recognized by a stranger before staggering his whole world.
Bucky wasn't sure he deserved many things anymore. He used to think it was all a gift, he used to think that after so much pain he was finally collecting happiness and peace of mind. He thought he really deserved it. But maybe he didn't. If all that had happened behind his back, if he had allowed it, if he hadn't even suspected it? Did he even deserve a look?
No, maybe he deserved those rubs, the footsteps on his boots, the coffee on his jacket. Maybe he deserved to feel that pain, that burning. Maybe it was the least he could do, it was the only thing he could give back, because in his foggy mind he couldn't think of what else he could do. He deserved that pain and more because it surely didn't even compare to yours, nor did it come close on the heels of everything you had to do.
There was a moment when he thought that had he had the chance to handle that damned time gem hanging around Strange's neck he would have done it without hesitation, not for a single second, not like that damned Stephen had hesitated and in vain. Maybe things would have been different, maybe everyone would be different now? Maybe you would hate him now. Maybe now the pain would be bearable. Maybe he wouldn't walk the streets of that city that had taken everything from him thinking the world had just fallen on his shoulders.
“Bucky, you're not going to find him,” he heard Carol speak to his left side, but his mind erased the memory.
He was alone walking through the city. He couldn't even remember why his white shirt felt sticky against his skin.
Whatever had happened that morning seemed to have been momentarily erased.
Bucky stopped.
What was he doing there?
The sound of morning stress suddenly stunned him. He shifted on his feet to look around, to see how everyone was still moving, how the sun was still shining and the clouds were racing across the sky, seeing how everything was still the same while for him everything had stopped.
“Where is she?” Bucky thought he was asking a voice in his head, a figment of his imagination, but the hand on his shoulder had to be real. It felt real.
-
Bucky didn't say much for much of the morning. You watched him, stoic and lost in thought from time to time, barely shaking his head in acknowledgement when you told him something. He had given no answer to your questions and as much as you wanted to keep asking, as much as you wanted to insist, something in his eyes prevented you from doing so.
So you spent a good part of the day like that, with Bucky at your side, reluctant to let go of your arm, not encouraging you to do anything else. Everything that had happened that day, all your crazy conjectures and theories slowly faded from your head as you relaxed by his side, letting go of the accumulated tiredness you'd felt since the day everything started to change.
And you had several strange dreams, surrounded by destruction, blows that felt strangely real, full of tears and full of suffering.
But one of them stood out from the others.
You were somewhat confused to see Bucky that morning. His mission was supposed to take at least a few more days and you had already made up your mind that you wouldn't see him for a while. Getting used to it was easy though, but you preferred to ignore that reality.
He passed right in front of you, walking as if it was nothing, ignoring your presence completely. Not that you were expecting anything different either. No, of course you weren't. After the way things left off when he left, you didn't expect him to forgive you so soon.
You could barely let out the air you were holding when he disappeared down the hall.
“What's wrong?” you heard Natasha's voice.
You turned around startled. She had planted herself next to you, her uniform dirty and heavily bloodstained.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, it's not mine.” Natasha waved her hand in a nonchalant gesture.
“Why did you guys come back so soon?”
“The track was a dead end. There was nothing there.”
“It was a trap.”
“Yeah,” Natasha sighed, turning her head to see Steve getting off the Quinjet. “She knew we were going. She couldn't wait to see our stupid faces.”
You clicked your tongue. “How come she's always three steps ahead of us?”
“We've been wondering the same thing.”
Natasha had started walking toward the end of the hallway and you were about to follow her until you ran into a familiar face on one side of Steve.
“What's he doing here?”
Natasha didn't answer you, and when you turned to see her she had a tired expression on her face.
“Well since we've been going on so many missions without a good result, the UN panel that controls us is going to start limiting our outings.”
“What? But she's completely unpredictable!”
“I know, believe me we tried to talk to him. They contacted us since we were coming back. They're very adamant, and it's not like we can do much about it.”
Natasha giving up just like that didn't give you much hope. You watched Steve listen to Secretary Ross with his hands on his hips and a droopy expression. He didn't seem to agree much, but he couldn't say no either. Surely more than anyone else he was the one who was having the hardest time with the whole Accords thing.
You wanted to think for a moment that that was the real reason Bucky had ignored you when he arrived and not because of the discussion you two had that was overheard by half the building about three days before. The subject of the Accords was also a hard subject for him, but more than anything else because of the bombing, because of everything that had happened after that. The fight he blamed himself for every chance he got and the concede. They had been able to go far but not far enough. You knew Bucky spent many days thinking about all that.
But hey, besides that news he must still be pretty mad at you. At least that was something you could fix.
“So we're back to waiting,” you finally spoke up turning to look at Natasha. The woman barely twisted her lips in response.
“If they don't think this is a global threat, I don't know what one thing has to happen for them to let us do our job right,” Natasha walked down the hall with you trailing at her heels, a grimace on her face and a frown on her face. “Will it have to cost someone's life for them to notice?”
“Nat,” you furrowed your brow at her words. “We should think this is enough. Something worse could have happened. If Steve hadn't given up after the fight at the airport, where do you think they'd be now? And you? The group would have disbanded. We could have been pushed even harder, but the government and the countries were more condescending.”
“I wish it was enough for me. Thinking like that must bring you peace.”
You ran your tongue in front of your teeth with a disguised grimace. Natasha didn't notice as you watched her red hair and black suit as yoou approached the main hall of the Complex.
“I'm just thinking this way to ease the violent thoughts of you all. You know I didn't want to sign either.”
“But you did,” Natasha paused at the foot of the stairs. You could tell from there that Bucky was talking to Sam and Tony was meeting with Clint.
“It was all going to end very badly if I didn't. You know what they think of me. If I had gone with you and Steve they would have not only wanted to contain me but neutralize me. And you know they would've done it any way they could.”
Natasha's eyes flashed in recognition. You knew what was going through her head because you had been through it once before and it had been a horrible experience that had been burned into the minds of every one of your teammates. Especially Bucky's and yours.
“I wouldn't have let them near you,” she spoke, her voice soft and full of feeling.
“And I wouldn't have let you carry that for me.”
Natasha sketched a half-smile, shaking her head.
“I guess we'd both die trying to keep the other from dying.”
The conversation ended there and soon you were both in the living room near Clint and Tony. You watched them chat about the mission. You noticed the somber expression on Stark's face when Natasha told him that Secretary Ross was talking to Steve. You caught the moment when Clint sighed heavily and moved his hand to turn down the volume on the device in his ear, he did that every time someone mentioned something about the Accords or the Secretary. Sometimes even when someone talked about Germany. Clint was the most evasive of all on that subject.
Sam and Bucky were too far away for you to tell if they were listening the conversation, although considering that the latter had a super serum running through his veins, he probably had super hearing that allowed him to, even if it was against his will.
But despite the distance you could tell that his eyes were on yours. He was resting his elbows on his knees, leaning forward. His expression matched Tony's and you wondered how much it would cost you to get the two of them to sit down and talk about the things that had happened. Within that civil war, they were probably the ones who had had it the worst. But that was almost impossible, they both hated each other almost to death.
You were attracted by his gaze and started walking before you knew it. Sam stood up and gave you a nod of greeting as he passed you. Surely they had already spoken.
Bucky didn't stop looking at you until you took the spot where his friend had been.
“Are you okay?” you asked him, bringing your hand up to his right shoulder. He was too tense.
“Ross doesn't understand anything,” was what he replied, his voice laced with a hateful venom that sent a shiver down your spine.
“I know.”
“He's gonna get us killed. Him and that damn panel.”
“Bucky-”
“Nothing's going to make them understand until a massacre happens and that blood is on their hands.”
“Honey,” you stepped closer to your boyfriend, his body tensing even more, but moving closer to yours as if it were his nature. He straightened up and allowed you to fully embrace his right arm. “I think you can rest easy because you're doing your job and you're doing it well. I know you feel the helplessness, we all go through that. And I would love to tell you that we can change it and do something about it, but I can't. I can only remind you that you've been doing it right and you've been doing everything in your power to make it so. Ross and the panel are going to come to their senses at some point. They're going to understand what we're doing at some point and then we won't have to fight anymore.”
“I think you're the only one on the team who believes that,” Bucky tried to sketch a smile turning his face to look at you.
“Someone has to do it or you're always going to be like cats and dogs.”
“Yeah, you're the one who brings balance to this place,” his beady eyes didn't leave yours. “To me, too.”
You felt a sting behind your eyes and your chest compressed.
“Bucky, I'm sorry-”
“No, leave it.”
“No! It was my fault and I spoke to you too ugly-”
“I already forgave you, Y/N. Don't keep talking.”
“Don't do that. Let me tell you-”
Bucky reached up to plant a kiss on your lips. You reached up to move back a little, but his hand went around your waist and he pulled you tighter against him. He moved his lips over yours as if it had been months since the last time he did it, gentle, taking his time, savoring every second he could. Your hands cradled the sides of his face, kissing him back with the same intensity he gave you.
When he pulled away, you were breathing heavily.
“I said leave it.”
“You're mean.”
He moved closer and gave you another quick peck before settling back in. His eyes didn't leave yours even though your body was beginning to lose the warmth he'd given you. At that moment you thought you could spend your whole life like this and you would be entirely happy.
Apparently Bucky thought the same thing.
“Marry me.”
“What?” you exclaimed, an expression of surprise making its way across your features.
Bucky smiled at your half-open mouth.
“Marry me, Y/N.”
“Bucky…”
“I never wanted to spend the rest of my life with someone as much as I do with you. I can't even remember what it was like to live before you anymore. So, yeah, that's it, marry me.”
It had been at least about two hours and you couldn't stop thinking about it. It felt too real to have been just a dream.
You had woken up in a room all alone. There wasn't a single trace that Bucky had been there with you at any time. For a moment you thought maybe you'd dreamed all that day, but you could still feel the strength of Bucky's arms around your figure. You could still feel his breath in your ear every time he mumbled an apology from the bottom of his heart, not really knowing what he was apologizing to you for.
You felt it as real as that kiss. Like that emotion when in your dream he proposed to you. Maybe it wasn't a dream, you'd been married after all. But how could you remember that now? What had changed?
And that conversation with Natasha…
You heard the bedroom door open and a few seconds later Bucky appeared in front of you. You felt your stomach churn.
“You're awake,” he commented as he approached the bed. He set down a mug of hot liquid on the nightstand before sitting down across from you, and you stood a little while longer watching the smoke billow out. “You must have a lot of questions.”
You turned to look at him. He looked better than the last time you had seen him. Calmer and more serene.
“Go ahead. Ask.”
Even though yes, you did indeed have too many questions, at that moment you went blank. You felt like your heart was going to pound out of your chest with how fast it was beating, so hard it was thundering against your bones. With sweaty hands you tried to arrange your hair in a carefree gesture, but you were sure you had a desperate grimace on your face.
So much had happened in the last few days, and there was even something you still hadn't told Bucky…
Sighing, you decided to let out the first thing that came to mind.
“What are the Accords?”
You noticed Bucky's face process your question, his face contorting in confusion. “The Accords?”
For a moment you thought it wasn't true, and you were giving yourself the nod thinking you'd just had a meaningless dream, until Bucky spoke again.
“Where did you hear about that?”
You frowned. “Is it real?”
“Yes,” Bucky nodded quickly. “The Sokovia Accords. It's a document signed by a large number of countries that allows a United Nations panel to monitor the activities of the Avengers.”
That made sense according to what you remembered from that dream. So it could be true…
“How did you propose to me?”
Bucky frowned even more than the previous time, and you knew that maybe those weren't the questions he was expecting, but you needed to know.
“Uhm,” Bucky took a moment before answering. “I had just returned from a mission where we were ambushed. I was nearly killed. Maybe I had a moment of lucidity, I don't know, all I knew was that I'd never felt so scared about not being able to be with you. So I came in, we talked and I just did it.”
“Did anything happen while you were coming in from the mission, before you made the proposal?”
“Mmm, yeah, something did happen,” Bucky looked more than confused somewhat suspicious. “The Secretary of State is like the spokesman for the panel I mentioned to you. That day coming back from the mission he contacted us to tell us that we would have to start getting out less and plan better plans, long story short. I was very angry. Too angry. And you and I… Well, we had argued before I left so we didn't talk as soon as I got there. But yeah, that happened.”
So it was a memory.
“Y/N? Why are you asking me these things?”
“You told me to ask.”
“Yeah, well,” Bucky pursed his lips. “I didn't expect you to ask me those questions.”
“Why is there a dome around the Complex?”
“Well,” Bucky cleared his throat. “Generally speaking, in the beginning it was to keep the military from intervening in the Complex because… let's just say we did something against the rules of the Accords for a while. Then we decided to keep the dome to prevent him from finding us.”
“Him? Who is he?”
“They call him The…”
For a moment you stopped hearing Bucky, though you could see his mouth was still moving. A high-pitched whistling filled your hearing. It was loud and painful. You moved your hands to the sides of your head to try to isolate yourself from the sound, but you felt it coming from inside you.
“… are you okay? Y/N?”
You could hear him again. That was weird.
“What happened?”
“I don't know,” you moved your jaw to uncover your ears, but in a second it seemed like nothing had happened. “I felt a ringing in my ears, but too loud.”
Bucky arched an eyebrow, scanning your face. You could tell the concern on his face and it compressed your chest.
“I'm fine, what were you saying?”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, go on.”
Bucky hesitated for a few seconds, his eyes still detailing your features as a precaution. Finally he sighed and shook his head in assent.
“Well, the man you most likely saw on television was…”
You lost your hearing again and a second after you saw Bucky's mouth move without a sound, the high-pitched beeping returned. That time it was so loud that you couldn't help but scream even though you couldn't hear anything. You felt Bucky's hands on your forearms as you covered your ears again, but it seemed to increase the beeping and along with it your vision tried to go white. You thought you saw a hand outstretched in front of you.
You were about to lose your mind until you finally found silence again.
You had leaned forward and Bucky had leaned over you.
“Bucky?”
“Y/N? Are you okay?”
You straightened up and he quickly did the same. His eyes desperately searched your face and body for something.
You felt dizzy all of a sudden, and when you reached up to massage your temples that's when you saw the blood.
So did Bucky.
You brought your hands to the sides of your face and it felt wet. For a moment you felt like you were going to throw up.
Bucky took your face in his hands and turned it sideways, looking at the blood that seemed to have come out of your ears. You couldn't look away from your blood-stained hands. For some reason, you felt a strange familiarity in your chest.
“Bucky…” you mumbled without looking up. “What happened? The day of the accident, what the fuck happened?”
“Y/N, are you-”
“Say it,” you raised your head. His frown made you uncomfortable.
“I don't think-”
“Tell me, Bucky.”
It looked like Bucky thought he knew what was going on and didn't want to subject you to it, but you'd seen something and you felt that's where the answer was.
“Say it and don't stop talking.”
Your features were hard, you didn't give a single space for doubt. And Bucky sighed when he realized he couldn't convince you.
“The accident was because of…”
There it was again. Louder and angrier than the previous two times. It seemed to want to berate you for some reason. So much anger was overwhelming. The sound was deafening. The pain was uncontainable. You couldn't help but shout as you felt like you were being ripped in two.
And then, you saw it. A hand stretched out in front of you.
Writhing in pain, you gripped it tightly.
And you opened your mouth to take a big breath of air.
Everything was white around you. To your left, right, above and below. There wasn't a single shadow or a sign that so much brightness was coming from somewhere. The white seemed to stretch on forever when you started walking, because there was no sign of even corners or stairs. It was a simple white plane.
You walked as if that was the solution. As if at some point you were going to come across something that would give you the answer, but there was simply nothing.
And when you finally stopped, you heard it. You recognized it instantly.
What are you doing?
You moved sideways, looking for the source of that voice, but there was no one even miles away. You couldn't see a single speck.
“Who are you?” you exclaimed angrily to no one in particular.
I'd already told you.
“No! Drop the fucking mystery, who the fuck are you?”
Silence followed your question.
“Didn't you want me to trust you? You told me they were the bad guys.”
They are, the voice replied.
“Then prove it. Tell me who you are. Let me trust you.”
There was silence for several seconds, and in between all the emptiness you swore you could go crazy. Fine, and you were already hallucinating things.
But then… footsteps.
You turned suddenly.
There was a man. Very short hair, with a big beard that hid his whole jaw. Dark clothes, a jacket and a baggy jean. He was leaning against something, with his hands inside his jean pockets, even though no matter how hard you looked you never found an object there. He must have been handling what was going on here. His face was barely minimally familiar to you, but not enough to make you suspect him.
“Who are you?”
“You can call me Nathaniel.”
Nathaniel? He didn't sound remotely familiar.
“You were the one who did that thing?”
“What thing, Y/N?”
“The beeping.”
“Ah. I couldn't risk getting your head filled with lies. I told you I'd take care of it.”
“And you had to hurt me in the process?”
“My apologies. It was the only way.”
“Are you seriou? Bringing me here was the only way too?”
You watched the man, Nathaniel, undo his serene expression for the first time to frown at you. He moved to approach you and you couldn't stop your body from shifting away from him.
“Don't you know you're the one doing this? You called me here. This is your invention.”
“What? No. That's impossible. I didn't… I'm not…”
You looked around. It couldn't be you. You didn't even know where you were while Nathaniel could sit comfortably waiting for you. It couldn't be your doing.
“This is your mind, Y/N. Don't you recognize it?”
Miles of emptiness greeted you as you turned to survey the place. That shit was impossible.
“Well, it's missing some memories, sure.”
You frowned and turned to look at him. He seemed to have his hands folded behind his back and he had that calm, almost expressionless face again. He looked like someone who inspired confidence, you didn't doubt that if people looked at him they would surely believe him because that was the aura he had around him. Still… the tightness in your chest wouldn't go away.
“But it's still yours.”
“You can… bring my memories back?” you weren't entirely sure why you asked, it just popped in your head, out of nowhere. It wasn't as crazy as it sounded taking in consideration that he was the beeping in your ears. He definitely could do something. Maybe it was your subconscious.
You noticed when his eyes twinkled as he shook his head. A small smile crept onto his face, as if he'd been waiting for that question.
“Well, I can definitely try.”
You felt a relief sweep through your entire body.
“You're on my side, right?” your cautious side came to the fore.
“Of course, Y/N. I've been trying to help you all this time. It's a little hard, but I've tried.”
“It's hard?”
“Yes, it's just that…” the man, Nathaniel, averted his gaze from yours as if he was thinking about whether or not to continue. When he looked back at you his expression was much softer, more real, “You're too far away. I can't do much like this.”
“And where are you?”
Nathaniel smiled, “Even if I told you, you couldn't look for me. You can't get through the dome.”
You clicked your tongue. You had the chance to finally remember everything in the palm of your hand and you wanted to take it with all your might. Because you had already realized that this man was very powerful and that, in his delusions of helpfulness, he wouldn't let anyone in the group tell you the truth. If he wouldn't even let Bucky do it, he wouldn't let anyone but him do it. And you had a bad feeling, but what else could you do?
“Then you'd have to come to where I am.”
Nathaniel nodded slightly. “Just tell me where you are and I'll come get you.”
“I'm at the Avengers Complex,” you spoke after a sigh. “In Washington.”
The man in front of you sketched a smile, but rather than reassuring you it was more nerve-wracking.
“Ah, you see. I told you you couldn't trust them.”
“What are you talking about?”
Nathaniel resumed walking, his steps getting closer and closer to you.
“You're not at the Complex or anywhere near Washington.”
“What? But…”
“They've got you trapped. They won't let you out. They won't even tell you where you really are.”
You shook your head in denial. What he was saying made no sense. You could literally see the city from the roof of the building. You had even gone out one of those days and toured the city, how was it possible that you weren't in Washington?
Although… You weren't even sure what Washington was really like. You had no memory of that city in your head. You had never seen the city anywhere else. You were just told you were there and assumed that what you saw was that city. But what if it wasn't?
“Find out where you are, Y/N,” Nathaniel spoke again while you were still lost in your head. Almost at the same time, the ground began to shake. “Figure it out and come back and tell me where I can find you and get you out of there.”
The ground shook vehemently, but the man in front of you didn't look as scared as you did. He still had that calm expression, his hands in his pockets and his head cocked to one side. He was looking at you as if he longed for something from you.
You no longer had the slightest idea what was going on.
And then you heard other footsteps approaching fast.
“Y/N!”
You recognized her instantly, but instead of being reassured, you were frightened.
You turned around to find Wanda Maximoff trying to get closer to where you were, running through the white debris falling from somewhere above.
“They're going to try to get you away from me,” Nathaniel spoke, and you moved to look back at him.
“Get away from him!” Wanda exclaimed.
“They don't want you to know the truth. Even if you think they're going to tell you the truth, they're not. It's a lie. It's always been a lie.”
“Y/N!”
“They didn't even tell you where you really are.”
“Shut the fuck up! Y/N, don't listen to him!”
“They've been keeping things from you for a year. They didn't even want to tell you that you have powers.”
“Don't listen to him!”
“If you hadn't brought it up to Bucky Barnes, he never would have told you.”
The way his name came out of his mouth was disgusting. You never wanted him to mention his name ever again.
“Think about that,” Nathaniel finished and watched beside you as the woman kept running trying to dodge the falling debris for some reason; mind you, it wasn't falling where you were, just where she was stepping. “Goodbye, Wanda, see you soon.”
When you turned around, the man was gone, and when you turned around again, Wanda crashed into you with a thud.
You opened your mouth to take a breath of air. You felt your body heavy. The first thing your eyes registered was color. You were no longer on that white plane, in your mind, you were back in the room.
But you were not alone.
Sound came slowly to your hearing, as you could barely differentiate between the faces that peered out to see you. You stopped when you found Wanda's reddish hair right in front of you. The hands at your temples must have been hers. It must have been the same as last time.
You sat up with a jolt and didn't disown, though you felt a whiplash of pain run from your back to your feet. You looked back at the woman who had gotten into your head sitting across from you. Your head had been in her lap. She looked as tired as you.
“Nothing he said is true,” was the first thing Wanda said, holding up her hands as if her sound of peace meant something to you.
“He?” you heard Bucky's voice, and that was the only thing that made you tear your gaze away from Wanda's clear eyes. “Who are you talking about?”
When you found Bucky, you clutched at his hands.
“Y/N,” Wanda spoke again. “What he said isn't true. He's a manipulator. He'll do anything to get you on his side, but you can't believe him.”
“So I'm supposed to believe you guys?” you almost spat the words out, an overwhelming fury roaring deep in your chest. You squeezed Bucky's hands as you turned to look at him. “Bucky, where are we?”
“Y/N, no,” Wanda interfered, but that only unleashed your fury.
“Shut up!” you raised your hand in her direction and the woman moved back a considerable distance on the ground, as if she had been pulled. You looked back at Bucky. “Tell me, where are we?”
Bucky was looking away, most likely to where Wanda was, but you didn't have time for that. You moved your hands to cradle Bucky's face and bring his eyes back to yours. That position brought back the memories of your dream and you felt a sharp pain in your head when that happened.
The moment Bucky turned to look at you, you felt as if a sword had cut you in two. An electrifying light and a bunch of scenarios where you had taken in Bucky's face in the same way.
“Y/N?”
You blinked rapidly, pushing those memories out of your mind. It seemed that every time an image of those appeared in your mind it was accompanied by excruciating pain.
“Answer me, please.”
“We're at the Complex, Y/N. In Washington,” Bucky replied and you felt his words were dirty.
“No,” you frowned and your hands over his face took on strength. “Where are we really?”
“Y/N,” Bucky looked confused, and for a moment you thought he had been lied too, until he moved his eyes to look behind you and without turning you knew who was there.
“Look at me,” you commanded between your teeth and his clear eyes focused solely on yours. “Tell me where we are.”
Bucky began to shake his head and reluctantly closed his eyes tightly. It seemed that simple question caused him physical pain.
“I-I can't. I can't tell you, Y/N.”
“Bucky, stop it. Don't talk.”
The order came from Carol Danvers, and you hated the way the man's face contracted as he heard it. You didn't want him to listen to her.
You wanted to turn to see her, you wanted to tell her that it wasn't her place to order him such things, that she was no one to talk to him like that. But Bucky's hands cupped your face before you could see her in your peripheral vision. His pleading eyes melted your heart and again you felt the pain shatter your head.
A hundred more scenarios where Bucky had looked at you that way.
“Y/N, relax, okay? We're going to talk, but I want you to calm down first, okay?”
You took a deep breath, trying to push through the pain, and nodded in his direction.
“Okay, all right, breathe with me.”
You noticed his chest inflate as he inhaled and mimicked his action. Also when he exhaled. And then again and again and again. Until you felt a little more serene and Bucky's eyes looked warmer.
Maybe it was what had happened with that man in your head, because of the stress you'd felt and the hopelessness when you woke up and felt for a moment that everyone was against you, but suddenly you felt so tired that you just laid your head on Bucky's shoulder and closed your eyes.

Yan! Azul Ashengrotto x (GN!)reader drabble
Wrote this for fun, I want to write longer things with more story but this is just a test to see how it will do. Characters are in their 20s in this.
Azul can't deny that feeding on the naivety of fools doesn't make him feel any sense of peace anymore. He's been in this rodeo for far too long to be able to feel glee from it. By now, it's just the way of his life. Every soul that's been signed off to him has no real meaning to him, just another gain of income.
But then there was you. Every once in a while, there's a clever one who doesn't fall for his tricks. Not even those satisfy him anymore. However, you're worth much more than them. You aren't just a game. No, you're the reward.
He needs power over you, control. He has everybody in the Mostro Lounge right under his hand, except you. No, you play here with your own free will. When you first offered to perform on the stage and sing a little song, Azul didn't attest to it. He knew you sang beautifully, and he knew customers would come flocking in to hear your Melody.
But now he isn't content with you just simply singing. He pays you, yes. You respect him, yes. But it's not enough. This is his club for sevens sake! So of course, he sends his two little helpers to watch over you. To find anything he could use against you.
However, he didn't expect to be slapped in the face when he tried to pull his golden strings. He doesn't understand how you could be this rude to him; he allows you to perform in his club, you're allowed drinks for free, and you get paid! The disrespect is blasphemous. He expected much greater from you.
After your brutal refusal to sign his contract, he allows you to keep performing. Yet, who could you turn to when the cost of your shabby apartment goes up? Oh? So you want a raise? That's rather unfortunate for you, isn't it? That's too bad though, because you missed a key at your latest performance, he can't reward lazy work! Run along now and go get ready, you're up in 30 minutes!
It's amusing watching you show up every night, barely able to keep up like you used to. Word around town is you're sleeping in your car now, and couldn't afford to buy a new apartment. He can't help but notice the glares you've given him through your tired eyes. You know this is his work, but there isn't much you can do about it. Every other job you've gotten has declined you, this is your only option.
He tries once again to help you out, and get you on your feet. But no? You refuse him again. That's okay, hell see you tomorrow! After this, he sends a certain eel with an eye for danger after you.
News breaks down about the person who barely escaped their car when it was set on fire. The wiring was messed with and the brakes wouldn't budge on their way to work. Another car t-boned the passenger side; shooting the victim's car into an electricity pole. The car was set on fire, and the victim barely made it out. But whatever luck they had appeared and allowed them to see another day.
After this mess, you're rushed into the hospital. Your throat is stinging and the doctors inform you that the ash and smoke from the fire caught into your throat. A surgery has to take place for you to ever be able to sing or talk normally again. On top of that, many of your cracks are in the process and another surgery will be needed.
However, the cost of these surgeries is too much. You won't even be able to afford to buy another car. But in all his glory, Azul steps into your hospital room and requests a moment alone for you. This will be the last time he asks you to sign a contract, for him to be able to give your voice and ability to move again with any surgery costs. If you refuse, he'll have to fire you though, what use is a singer without a voice?
Ecstasy fills him when he can see you give up, the fire in your eyes drizzling down. A tight smile tugs at his lips when you sign the best you can. A few seconds after you sign, a golden glow emits the room and you can feel yourself healing drastically. All it took was to allow him to control your voice, but keep it inside you. And of course, complete control over you.
Don't worry about a raise! You won't need it. His little siren will be living under his care, he always needs to keep his possessions in today's conditions!

“I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream”
~
“Oh it's so nice watching them find their happy ever afters!” Dovey gushed at you.
Humming, you nodded and stayed silent. It was a known fact that you, the sister of Prince Philip, has not yet found her own happy ever after. And now, it's most likely that your niece is going to find hers before you.
Speaking of the ever, you heard a squeal and then a body collided with yours. “Aunt Y/N!”
“Careful now, Beatrix.” You held her by the arms and smiled at her. “You wouldn't want your aunt to fall over, would you?”
Beatrix laughed and twirled. “Never!”
“But, I'm here to tell you...” Beatrix leaned and whispered. “Neal kissed me!” Dovey gasped, overhearing the conversation and clapped.
“Oh I'm so happy for you, Beatrix!”
Smiling, Beatrix replied. “Thank you Professor. Now I do believe that a certain prince is waiting for me.” Beatrix winked at you and left.
“Have fun!” You called. “But not too much fun!” You laughed as Beatrix tripped because of embarrassment.
“Oh don't be so strict, Y/N.” Professor Emma Anemone poked your side, causing you to flinch.
Rolling your eyes, you scoffed. “I can't have a new Bellerose running around before my niece even gets to the middle of her story.”
“Bellerose?” Dovey and Anemone asked simultaneously.
“Our surname.”
Professor Anemone nodded and pursed her lips. “I always forget your last name.”
“Well, don't bother memorizing it. King Hubert's last name isn't that special.” You gave a shrug and took a wine glass from a server's tray.
“Yes it is! Don't you remember? You brother slayed–” As Dovey started to narrate the story of your families life, you tuned her out and looked at the window. It was pitch black outside, yet all of you inside were covered by the brightest lights ever imagined.
You only left your reverie when someone knocked the wine glass out of your hands.
“Oh dear! My apologies! I'm so sorry!” You looked down and saw a man's back, he was picking up the shards of the broken glass. Deciding to help, you crouched down and picked up a piece.
“I am really sorry–” The man was cut off as he saw your face.
“Y/N.” You said with a smile, before snapping your finger and all the shards were gone.
Shaking his head, the man stood up and helped you up. “Well, Y/N. I'm really sorry, it's not normal for a prince to bump into princesses.” He shrugged and scratched his nape. “But hey, not everyone needs to be normal.”
You smiled at him and raised you eyebrow. “What's your name? You keep rambling but you never say your name... Prince?”
“Oh! It's Prince James.”
“Prince Charming's brother?”
Prince James gave a chuckle and glanced behind you. “Well, there's my date. I'll see you later Princess Y/N.”
Dovey and Emma crowded around you as Prince James left.
“Not a catch?”
“Too princey?”
Rolling your eyes, you smirked. “More like too occupied with his date.” You pointed to another teacher and Prince James talking.
Dovey and Emma nodded in understanding and left you, again. ‘They really like leaving me alone and then coming back to pester me for some reason.’
Sighing, you grabbed another wine glass and wandered outside. Walking through the corridors of the school, you suddenly remembered what it was like being a student. What is was like being with her–
Huffing, you shook your head and pushed the castle door open. “No, you will not think of her.”
Welcomed by the gentle yet cold breeze of the night, you shivered and regretted not wearing a sleeved gown. You rubbed your palms together and walked towards the side of the bridge.
Leaning against the concrete, you closed your eyes and exhaled. After 18 years, you finally had a moment in silence. Ever since Beatrix was born, you were always beside her, not even having a time for yourself. Although you loved your niece, it was time for her to distance herself from you to finally start her own story.
“I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yet I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
Singing your sister-in-laws song, you started to dance by yourself. Basking yourself in the moonlight, you didn't even notice a figure looking and watching you dance on the other side of the bridge.
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream”
Clapping was all you heard as you finished your song. After a few moments, you opened your eyes and whirled around, only to see the dean of the school for evil, Lady Lesso.
“Such a marvelous performance, dear.”
“Lesso.”
“What? No thank yous? And I thought Evers were polite.”
“Well spare me from your stereotyping, Lesso.” You huffed and looked away.
Lesso raised her eyebrow and walked towards you, once in front of you, she put her finger under your chin and guided you to look at her. “Look at me when we're talking.”
Narrowing your eyes, you pushed her hands and turned to leave but she caught your wrist and tugged you towards her. “Now now, don't be disrespectful, princess.” she whispered, you felt her presence so close to you that it didn't take you enough strength to lean against her. After all, she was the one tou considered your ‘happy ever after’.
“That's right.” Lesso gripped your waist and put her chin on your shoulder, lightly kissing the bridge between your neck and shoulders.
“This isn't a dream, right?” You whispered, fearing that this was only an illusion made by your own mind.
“Only if you want it to be.”
Lesso brought your hands up and kissed the back of your palms. She closed her eyes and whispered,
“But I have to tell you. For me, this isn't just a once upon a dream.”

Monster Bride Part 2 What Shall We Find?
(Just for context. After this there will one chapter and ending for each character except for the Hantengu boys which will end in a poly romance. If there's any suggestions for what you'd like to see them do feel free to leave them in the comments.)
Tumblr media
You liked living alone.
No one to order you around. No one to say what you shouldn't and should do. No one scrutinizing yourself. It was a good life. Just you, nature, and the few farm animals you kept for company. It was a good life. Your parents were a bit concerned about you wanting to buy a house and  live alone but considering your circumstances they agreed and purchased a home from an old farmer as a new year's present a few years back. It wasn't too big. Just two rooms including the bathroom and just a small space in the back for a few animals. Just it was perfect in your eyes. And it was just outside of town. Close enough to visit whenever you wanted but far enough to give you complete privacy in the woods. Which was EXACTLY what you wanted.
Unfortunately your life wasn't meant very easy.
From the moment you were born it seemed your life was going to be a problem for you. Mostly because it was almost like you had a spell casted over you to just have the worst of luck with men. Oh no. They weren't repulsed by you. Quite the opposite actually.
THEY WOULDN'T LEAVE YOU ALONE!!
Your parents must've had at least two hundred offers from other parents to arrange a marriage between you and their sons.  Thank the gods above they were amazing and kind and always asked if you wanted any of the marriages. You refused so they refused. And you would still be bombarded with offers of other parents to boys just attempting to court you any chance they could get. It was one of the reasons why you chose to live all the way out here instead of in town where you'd just be bothered. Although men still occasionally showed up here. And sometimes an older man or woman would trying to talk you into marrying their sons. You always refused and made them leave no matter how polite, persistent, or rude they are. And boy. You've gotten a few rude guests you had to kick to the Kirb. But you also had the ones who couldn't take a hint like the one months ago. Stupid guy. He even tried to use that stupid tradition to get you to marry him.
For thousands of years, people married off their daughters and ladies desperately scrambled to find a husband obsessively in fear of a monster dragging them away from as the blood moon came every hundred years. WHICH WAS STUPID!! You've lived your ENTIRE LIFE playing in the woods and walking around and now living in the woods and not even ONCE did you ever see any ghoul, goblin, troll, fairy, ghost, or any other inhuman creature. They only existed in stories and the imagination of children. You hated that so many people were legitimately terrified of this. And you especially hated that someone tried to use that against you!  You wouldn't be scared into a loveless marriage that wouldn't be fair to yourself. Or the man to be honest.
With a sigh you woke up that morning and did yours chores which wasn't a lot. Feeding the few animals you had and cleaning your house. Neither of which took very long because of how small your home was and then you started on the laundry. Again it wasn't much and you were just scrubbing a blanket in your home when there was a noise outside that made up you jump and whirl your head towards the back of your house. Your cow was mooing and thrashing about by the side of your house.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
You heard her knock and the kick the side of the house a few times making you drop the cloth and stand up as even MORE noises came from your backyard. Your chickens were going absolutely NUTS!! Clucking and calling a out making you run to the back door and throwing it open-
"AH!!"
Your arms threw up over your face and closing your eyes as a flurry of your hens jumped up and flew a out you in a panic.
CRASH!! THUD!! RUSTLE!!
Your cow mooed louder and ran past you towards the well on the side of your house as a giant black blue went diving into a bush right by your hen house causing feathers to fly and more chickens to rum about in panic blocking your view of...of...Well  whatever it was. You blinked just seeing the bushes move and hearing whatever it was crashing through the woods away from you as quick as the wind. Leaving you standing there blinking with a few panicked chickens and your cow irritated and half hiding behind the well....
What in all the heavens just happened?!
The chickens were still running around as the last few crashing sounds made their way into the woods before it was silent all around. You stood there and just...blinked. What was that?! A bear? No, no. A bear was too big and bulky and couldn't run off THAT fast?! You looked around noticing that...no chickens were missing. All fifteen of your hens and one rooster was still around. Oh... Whatever it was you must've scared it off before it could make off with one of them. But what was it? Couldn't have been a fox. It was too big and it wasn't a red color...
"A wolf," you mumbled having finally deduced what it was before scowling. "It must've been a wolf!! A wolf was after my chickens!!"
Scowling you marched on over to the bush where it disappeared through making your chickens scramble from your legs. Grabbing the bush branches, you pushed the thing apart roughly but saw... Nothing. The back of your hill sloped down a hill to where a lot of wild berry bushes and a few fruit trees were ending in a stream that came up to your shoulders almost with how deep it was. Another reason you chose to live here. Free food! You scowled looking around more but there was no signs of any creatures. No wolf either. Curses! It must've ran off before you could see it... You'd buy a trap in town. You were going to head there after you finished laundry anyways. Letting the bush go back the way it was before you angrily turned and stomped off back to the house.
"I'll be damned before I let a wolf make off with my animals. I'll put them all in the barn before I go but first I'm going to get the laundry done."
Unbeknownst to you, eyes opened up from the shadows and followed your form back to your home. You stopped in the doorway pausing... before turning around to fully face the backyard and the eyes widened.
Y O U  W E R E  T H E  M O S T  B E A U T I F U L  W O M A N  T H E   E Y E S' S  E V E R  S E E N.
A shiver went down your spine as you narrowed your eyes looking around.. before going back inside and continuing inside before closing the door behind you. Yeah. You'd finish up before you left for town and buy the BIGGEST trap they had.
The eyes way he'd awestruck at the beautiful figure walking into the house and closing the door. A chicken wondered close to a different bush unknowing. A hand reached out. The chicken only gave out a muffled squeak before it was yanked into the woods never to be seen again.
You  finished hanging up the laundry inside and went back out to heard all your chickens back into the henhouse and locked up your still spooked cow safely in the small barn before you left for the town. You thought you heard a twig snapping in the woods behind you before you left down the road towards town but you were sure it was just the wind. You weren't as paranoid as the others in your town.  So you started down the forest path back to the nearest town. It was an hour's walk there and an hour walk back. A bit of a way to walk but you'd like to think it helped to discourage others from seeking you out most of the time. You started down the road..but kept looking over your shoulder thinking you heard someone...but nothing was ever there. You got the feeling something was watching you from your home and the feeling didn't go away until you couldn't see your house anymore. Then you felt more at ease. Probably was the wolf, or your paranoia that was thrown a bit since you weren't expecting it. However unbeknownst to you it was something much, much more supernatural than that.
The rest of the trip passed by without incident or without that sixth sense of something watching you. An hour later you arrived at the town. It looked as busy and crowded as you remembered and it was then you realized something. You might as well probably get your shopping done  since you were here. You'd be needing some more supplies. So off you went to the first spot which was a candle store, then a library, and a few more places. While at a certain book store however you again felt eyes on you, and this time you turned and found the source of them this time. Four men working on building the side of a new house were staring at you as you skimmed over some books near the doorway. Upon realizing that you saw them, two of them looked embarrassed and sent back to work quickly, one man smirked and winked at you, and another one politely smiled and waved. You frowned before quickly retreating into the store further.
Why did this happen EVERY TIME you went into town?!
You just wanted to get you some supplies and be on your way. On the way back through you stopped by the blacksmith. He sold hunters they needed from bows and arrows to knives to bear traps. You walked right in gaining a few looks from a few men in there looking over the knives and two of which were asking who was presumably the owner which one would be the best for deboning large fish. Amongst the swords and horse shoes, and other items you found the traps. Big ones. Obviously those were for hunting BIG game like bears. But there was others of a more reasonable si-You froze as someone leaned on the wall next to you. Arm above and out. A face smiling down at your head. You turned to see one of the hunters smiling down at you.
"Hello, Wood Dweller "
NOPE!!
You didn't even give him a chance to speak. You turned on your heels and RAN like the wolf itself was chasing you. NOPE NOPE NOPE!! NOT DEALING WITH THAT TODAY!! Besides you saw the prices written above the traps. Too expensive and you didn't have enough money. You'd have to use the old rope tied to the tree trick. Running down the street with basket in hand, you just happened to look up and noticed that the sun was setting. If you didn't want to walk alone in the dark, you'd better head home now. So that's exactly what you did. You veered quickly through the streets as people headed home quickly fearing the dark and so called 'monsters' that lurked in the dark. You didn't fear any fake monsters. You were more afraid of that wolf! But you needed to get back before your animals could be in danger again. So leaving the town behind you veered off the street and down the path leading you back home.
The light was quickly disappearing and you ran faster and faster down the road.  Shadows danced across the pathway before you as you went down the pathway. Trees blew creepily and creaked as if their branches were trying to reach out and grab you. To take you captive. It made a shiver run down your spine. You didn't reach your house until the last rays of light left the sky and plunged the world into total darkness. The moon high in the sky and crescent shaped like a sadistic grin. You ran right up to the front door, pulling it open but stopped and looked around you real quick. You saw nothing but the creaking wind and trees. You shivered again before you stepped inside and closed the door. Finally. You were safely home. With a sigh you leaned against the door for a long moment before reaching out to flip the lock. With the door safely locked you pushed yourself off the door smiling and carrying the large basket over to place it gently by your-....Wait a second. Blinking you turned to window and blinked. Your window's shutters were... Open?
YOU DIDN'T LEAVE THOSE OPEN!!
You always closed your shutters before you left anywhere. Why were they open now? Especially when you KNEW you closed them before you left!! Stunned silence filled the dark house as you stared at it silently. Before slowly approaching it and looking out the window into the backyard. The moonlight hit everything in the yard. You saw nothing on the other side. Your brows furrowed. This was... strange. You remembered locking it shut before you left but you must've not locked it properly in your haste to get the trap. Which meant you had to go outside to close it again. ...your form slowly approached the back door and you grabbed a hold of the sliding door at the same time something was walking through the forest. Neither of you two noticed each other. However when you silently opened the door you froze when you heard it. The sounds of something coming from the other sides of the Bushes.
The SAME bushes the wolf disappeared into. But they sounded a bit farther away from the henhouse! That stupid wolf was back!!.. Your eyes flickered to the pitchfork by the he house. If you scared it away by threatening it then it would be unlikely to come back again. It worked once when a fox wouldn't stop trying to bother your hens. It should be work on a wolf too. And if comes down to a fight, you'd have a nice fur to sell in town tomorrow. Slowly you stepped out of the house and back towards the bush. Your bare feet touching the ground gently and quietly enough to not make yourself known.
Step after step after step.
Quietly you stepped closer as and closer and CLOSER to the bush silently. Slowly behind the henhouse you went and stopped right in front of the bush. The wind blew swaying it's branches creepily and looked like thrashing arms. You grabbed a handful and silently and slowly pulled them back.
And you froze at what you saw-

Hana Yori Dango (Arataki Itto/Reader/Yan!Kamisato Ayato)
A/n: Eyoo it's Feb 3, the Setsubun festival should be happening rn!!! Idk how I thought it was feb when I uploaded this on SEPTEMBER. Anywahs, ily Itto. He's not a full-blown yandere here (yet?) but he is my– OUR himbo, comrade. Writing Itto's dialogues is a delight. I took some inspiration and ideas from @leftdestiny-posts and the itto/gorou enjoyer anon for this one! (both characters are technically here but... haha...) Thanks for the ideas ehehe >:D
gn!reader. This is Itto's side story for "Careful, He Bites.", so everything is in his perspective. Maybe it could be read as a stand-alone (?) if you haven't read the previous one for extra mystery lololol.
An Unreliable Synopsis: There is another thing besides you and your flowers that Itto can't live without, and it's good fricking food. (Fic happens before "Careful, He Bites")
Cw: yandere!ayato, Japanese folklore, and pure biker gang leader!itto supremacy.

Around the time Emperor Takakura reigned in the country, there lived an old farmer who wouldn't move a hair away from Yamashiro Province.
They were gentle, and their neighbors consistently portrayed them as extremely dense. They did not care to dream big for themselves, and opted to worry only about the plate they'll have once the sun sets.  They didn't pay attention to whispers that would soon become the country's history; they hardly heard of the latest gossip regarding Taira no Tokuko. They lived blissfully secluded and unaware, and it was the life they chose to live.
Unaware may not be the best word to describe them, but unaffected.
███ was alone in their household with no spouse to care for them nor children to raise, and in turn, no one thought to accompany them.
Yet ███ never once considered themselves lonely. The moonlight may wax and wane, but the monsters that lurk nearby would never leave them pondering in the dark.
The moon was beautiful that night, too.
"–Won't you be a dear and fetch me a bottle of sake?"
Their voice echoed inside the empty and dilapidated house. The █████ Clan had long been silent, so no human would answer their calls.
"HAHAHAHA!!! Off to drink again, eh? Leave it to the one and oni Arataki Itto to keep you company!"
But a yokai might.
This particular yokai, Arataki Itto, had grown accustomed to pouring drinks for the farmer, in a way, they consider him their grandson. Itto sat by the floor beside them. He was small in stature, not much taller than their knee, but they considered his heart to be much bigger than an average human's. So, how could they ever turn down his offer of joining his cute little gang?
"But seriously, grand-y," Itto grinned. "I don't understand why you drink so much when you could never beat me in a drinking competition."
And oftentimes, a bigger heart comes with a bigger pride.
"Oh, Itto..." The old farmer gently ruffled the young oni's hair. "You ought not to be proud of such a feat! You're too young to be downing these drinks."
"But grand-y!"
"Do not argue with me, young oni."
"Why not, especially when you sound like a total sore loser?"
"Wha–?"
"Bleeuuugh."
The oni stuck his tongue out.
The farmer sighed, endeared.
Itto wasn't happy with the way they'd been acting over the previous month. Their movements have become terse and rigid since they returned from visiting Yae Miko. And right now, they're being awfully silent for a drunk person. Itto also didn't like how their clan's Kagura Bell Wand is also neatly boxed on top of the table with the kitsune's name on it. It's as if they're planning to give their family heirloom away. Does that mean no purification spells are working on their illness?
"Yo, grand-y. Is something up?"
He doubted it was because of ordinary human struggles. Their father had long perished in a failed rebellion and their mother had hopelessly succumbed to an undiagnosed illness. She left her child the heavy weight of carrying a disgraced Clan's name. Almost nothing can trouble the farmer.
The farmer succeded most of their previous hardships. If "succeeded" also meant abandoning the Kuruma-dera temple and becoming a recluse entangled with yokai, then the old Sojo would be rolling in his grave right now. But the point is, Itto doesn't think the old farmer would act this way simply because of a menial problem like relationships and lack of entertainment.
"Oh, nothing. I am just... Pondering over my distant relatives' wellbeing. Nothing too personal."
"Do ya want to visit them? I can help you pack up! I've been getting stronger!!!"
The imperial court may be their cousin's home, but it is not their place to stay. Especially for a hakaiso like them. If their cousin wasn't merciful the usual Banishment Laws would've been in full effect on their trial and they'd be sent to Izu Province. They don't want to burden their subordinate clan-- the Kaedehara clan-- more with their presence.
So they digressed.
"Itto, I want you to have this."
They procured a small violet flower from the vase on top of their table. Itto's nose scrunched. The child never expressed any interest in flowers, so their affectionate gesture doesn't reach him.
"Eh? What am I gonna do with that, grand-y?" Itto was visibly unimpressed.
"I have something to ask of you, won't you take this as a reward for that request?"
"HMPH! I don't even know what the request is!"
"Ahh... Fair point."
They gazed at the moon.
"Can you look after the Kamisato siblings for me?"
The young oni tilted his head. Why would they ask that? The two bakenekos are already capable of taking care of themselves anyways. Particularly the oldest. Itto often played with Ayato, and all their games ended with the cat outsmarting him one way or another. The only fault Ayato had was being overtly clingy and jealous whenever another yokai steals their attention.
"But why? It's not like Ayato needs help--"
"I'll be leaving soon."
"--raising his sis– HAAAAAH?!"
They cleared their throat.
"As a human, it still feels as though I'm abandoning my pets, even if they are intellectual yokais who can handle themselves. I'm worried about Ayato especially, he'll probably carry the weight of the world on his shoulders even if he could share the load. Our little himegimi doesn't even have a proper name yet." They muttered, melancholic.
"Hold up grand-y oni! Where are you going?! You're just going out of town... right?"
They laughed humorlessly and patted his head once more. "It won't be long. I'm sure I'll crawl home to you in a few more years. Don't cry, young oni."
So it's not a visit to the capital, it's...
Itto gulped.
"What... What did miss Miko say?"
"It doesn't matter. I am already tired of thinking about talking about it, what more if we discussed the subject?" They shook their head. By the sound of it, they refuse to talk not because of the emotional strain, but because successfully explaining things to someone like Itto would take too much effort.
"NO! Let's talk about iiiiiiiiitttt!!!" He incessantly tugged on their sleeves. "Is it your heart again?! As your gang leader, I already ordered you to stop purging wraiths!!"
They gave him a small, patient smile. For a brief, enchanting moment, it was as if the world slowed just for the oni to process an epiphany.
They tucked a wisteria behind his tiny ear.
"The moon is beautiful. Itto, thank you for making me the first member of your gang." They closed their eyes, breathing shallowly.
And then, a complete yet abrupt silence.
"Grand-y...?"
Young Arataki Itto lightly shook the old farmer.
"Grand-y?"
Young Arataki Itto shook them a bit more forcefully.
"Grand-y oni?!"
They didn't reply.
"GRAND-Y ONI!?"
Young Arataki Itto helplessly yanked them by their collar.
"GRAND-Y ONI!!!"
-----
"(Y/N)!!!"
You toppled forward as a heavy weight pressed forcefully against your back.
"Oomph– Goodness– Itto?"
"Oh, thank God you're alive!" He sobbed.
Arataki Itto, your best bud, wept over your shoulder. You did not shove him away. Itto is way too strong for you, and you wouldn't ask him to carry rice sacks for you if that weren't the case.
Itto had always been an obnoxious eccentric, often barging into your flower shop and leaving his muddy footsteps on the floor without any reservations until you surprisingly snapped. You commanded him in silent anger that he should make himself more useful to society. Hearing your low-toned voice was the scariest experience Itto had. Itto swears it was downright traumatizing. Distraught, he begged to be your "temporary" delivery boy to calm your nerves. His plan worked.
You pay him generously for his service, especially since he is missing his birth certificate and therefore can't be employed officially, but that doesn't change the fact that your floors are still muddy now that he's always back.
Itto squished his cheek against your neck as he bawled. You first assumed he was here for his part-time job but he's more interested in sharing his story. You accepted your fate and listened to the biker's performance.
"You would not BELIEVE what kinda nightmare I had last night– like hoo boy, it was INTENSE!"
"Is that so?" You chuckled, slowly diverting your attention back to your previous task, which was watering your plants.
"Trust me, man! It was so strange, it felt like it was some premonition from a distant past or something."
"I'm almost certain that premonition refers to an omen of what might happen in the future, but do go on."
"I can't remember the details, but apparently I was talking to this old farmer– and then they died in my arms! Like bleugh!" Itto bit his tongue and closed his eyes, trying to mimic what the corpse did but it's obviously an exaggeration. "I don't even remember what we were talking about, but I felt so small."
"Oh, wow. How horrifying." You spoke with your voice dripping with disinterest.
It kinda blows that you see him as just an annoying kid-like figure, but at least you let him pull you close like this. Maybe you'd compliment his muscles one day (or not, he lowkey skips arm exercises).
"Right?! Get this– the old grandperson-guy gave me a sumire! A FLOWER!!!"
"This is most certainly the first time you're excited about flowers. Hmm..." You placed a finger on your chin. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but are your dreams trying to tell me that violets will sell well this season or...?"
You cast a glance at your reserved flower stock. Because none of them are violets, it appears that you cannot tease him by offering a bouquet. You would've joked about sending some to his funeral, but Itto is rattled enough without your misplaced sense of humor.
"What?! DUDE! Why is that your interpretation?!"
"It might be because I happen to be a florist, Itto."
Itto looked back at your flowers with an open-mouth expression that says "oh, right."
He quietly noticed that most of your flowers have become more colorful since Ayato began generously giving you bonemeal as gifts. He sent jars nearly the size of a skull. It was pretty creepy. Nobody knows what that gentleman meant when he said he personally acquired and ground those bones for you, but at least they're great fertilizers.
"Well, yeah, I guess. But that's beside the point, compadre! I'm telling you all this because I wanna know what sumire, violets, mean in flower language or somethin'!"
"Violets in our country are often given as a sign of gratitude or love. Perhaps the old figure in your dreams only wishes to thank you before they regret not doing so." You sighed. Itto noticed how you looked perplexed amidst your ramblings, as though you were remembering something you shouldn't have. "Your fear of ghosts is seriously affecting your wellbeing, Itto. I fear that your cowardice will affect you one day."
...
'Itto, thank you for making me the first member of your gang.'
...
Itto shuddered.
Nope. No way. There's no way that dude was a ghost.
"W-What?! Me? Afraid of GHOSTS?! HA!" He laughed emptily. "No way."
He paused, eyeing you with his face going way past your comfortable personal space.
"And you know, (Y/n)... Now that I took a good look at ya, you kinda look like the old person from my dreams."
The two of you went silent.
You chucked a half-filled plastic watering can directly into his head.
"OW!!! What was that for?!"
"Old-fashioned as my speech and knowledge of the world may be, that does not mean I appear old myself, thank you very much!"
"WHAT?! I didn't mean it like THAT! C'mon, (Y/n)!" Itto blew a raspberry beside your neck. "I wasn't saying that. I was thinking about how you have this wholesome grandpa or granny type of vibe-- not saying that you're cute-- well I mean, you are cute-- but not in a MEAN way-- like, you're giving endgame lover vibes--"
You gently pushed Itto's hug away and passed on the next batch of flowers before he spirals when defending himself. It's a trick you used against him frequently, which helps you drown out Itto's nonsensical ramblings that are often borderline flirting. He doesn't seem to notice that he'd take anything off your hands whenever he's speaking. Doing this prevents him from realizing that you're asking him to deliver flowers to a sleazy love hotel. You have to thank his biker gang's deputy leader– Kuki Shinobu– for that "life hack."
"This next bouquet is for a client in Kabukicho. Paimon was kind enough to inform me that there is a 10% possibility of rain, but it might pick up by 6 pm so use caution."
Itto furrowed his thick eyebrows. It's cute how you talk like P.A.I.M.O.N is as a person but– "It's just an AI..."
You shrugged.
"Any friend of Lumine is a friend of mine."
Itto perked up. Lumine. It's been a while since the three of you had the pleasure of spending the afternoon indulging in sweets with her in Bistro Ichiya. He wondered how she's been lately.
She stopped responding to your calls the same summer you all became friends with Ayato. Itto thought it was such a bizarre turn of events. It lead you to wonder if your inadequate knowledge of technology had put on quite a formidable communication barrier, but it turns out your mutuals were unable to talk to her as well. Even Yoimiya offhandedly mentioned that it had always been in Lumine's nature to travel and forget her previous commitments.
You highly doubted that Lumine would let it go this far, however. It's been half a year. You had been casual friends for longer than that and know that she's not as fickle as dandelion seeds.
Itto pities your faith in her.
"... Still no calls?"
"Unfortunately no." You sighed. "Not even Paimon knows where she ended up in all her traveling endeavors."
"I'll try searching TeyvatBook again for you."
"Thank you. 'Surfing' the web must be incredibly taxing for both you and your device. I appreciate the effort, Arataki. Do make sure to replenish your phone's energy afterward."
You have the intonation of an aged soul. Itto assumed he'd be used to your manner of speech by now, but it's so eerily similar to the elderly person in his nightmares that it's bordering on the uncanny valley. He wouldn't be astonished if you were ever a docile monk in your past life.
"G-Geez. You make it seem like P.A.I.M.O.N's human. Kinda freaky."
Your silk-like laughter filled the gaps of silence, drowning his distress.
"I am the type of florist who believes talking to plants helps their growth, aren't I?"
Itto smiled softly.
"Yeah... Yeah, I guess you are, grand-y."
-------------------
"Call me later, big guy~–"
"Thank you for your purchase, have a nice day!"
That was the last order for today. Itto would've boasted as usual, but he has your best interest at heart, so he refrained from doing so to keep a good name for the Sakura Bloom flower shop. Following a script is out of character from a man like Itto, but he did most of what you commanded effortlessly.
On a side note: he looked quite adorable sporting a little green apron– clearly your size– instead of his usual bad-boy leather jacket. The look barely complimented his muscles but he's confident that he's still oozing charisma. He can't be too sure though-- he'll gel his hair extra later, and MAYBE you would say he's smokin'.
Itto stepped away from the hotel's porch and walked toward his bike. he never would've guessed you take customers from this side of Shinjuku too. That lady earlier was unforgettably promiscuous, to say the least. As he was about to comb his hair and reach for his helmet, he stopped abruptly.
"Hol' up– Was that Ayato?"
It was unmistakably him. He looked off, though. Itto only saw him for like a split second from afar but Ayato's expression looked nothing like the gentle warm smile he usually sports.  Seeing Ayato without you nearby is rare since the man frequently accompanies you in public like a servant or a pet. That's not to say that Ayato lacks a social life. It's just that Itto never had the opportunity to speak with him one-on-one.
Itto became excited simply thinking about it, and the thought of asking why Ayato would be seen in the red light area didn't occur to him. Instead, he had another priority in mind.  He always wanted to know where Ayato got his niku-dango ingredients because he wouldn't answer when you asked Ayato or Thoma (but Thoma looked nauseous that day, so Itto couldn't blame the guy). Itto didn't care for the meat dango's recipe, but the ingredients made it delectable—the pork especially! If he was being poetic, it tasted nostalgic. It was as though he had relished in it fresh from his muddled memories. And he's craving for more.
He left his bike and ran after him just before the light turned from yellow to red. But when he reached the other side he couldn't find a hint of his light blue hair amongst the crowd.
Itto cursed to himself as quietly as he could muster, still aware that he was wearing your apron.
"You..."
He spun around. The voice didn't sound anything like Ayato's, but the tone pointed at him. The stranger wore an obi that did not match the century he was in and two protruding azure horns that were hard to miss. It was like he came out of a Setsubun festival. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, Itto felt as if those horns were real and not at all out of place.
"Arataki Itto." The stranger's nose scrunched, voice dripping with unadulterated disdain. "The pathetic red oni that stained our pride just for a sinful runin."
Itto stared back, his face blank and his eyes hollow.
"...Takuya."
Itto froze as the name slipped out of his mouth. How did he know his name? And why is he so sure that's his name?
"How was it? How was the taste? Was it as good as you remembered?"
"I... Who are you, man?!"
Itto already knew his name. He knew he just said his name but he still asked out loud because he couldn't understand what the hell is going on.
"Why don't you still remember...?"
Takuya seemed at a total loss on what else to say, unlike his heavily contorted expression.
Arataki Itto is for being easily provoked, and Takuya took advantage of his simple flaw.
"It's been years since you made the deal. Why don't you remember who you were– who you are? Don't you remember the pact?!"
"Theeee– what now?"
Don't get him wrong, Itto feels guilty but he's stumped. He doesn't know what he's guilty of exactly, and this man isn't doing him any favors by continuing this guessing game.
"You promised– you red onis made an oath that you will live ALONGSIDE humans. Why did you eat them? Why did you start living AS a human?!"
Itto's breath hitched at the sound of Takuya's screaming, causing him to nervously run his fingers through his hair. As he reached for his scalp, a phantom pain seared where two things should've been.
"... The hell you talking about, man? Are you a chuunibyo or something?" His voice came off as hoarse and strained, reflecting that an invisible force is harming him in ways he can't prove to himself or others.
Takuya sucked air between his teeth. But just as he was about to break down his list of grievances, another voice interrupted the conversation.
"Ah, there you are, my friend! I have been looking everywhere for you."
The two stopped and Takuya froze. It was almost as if the stranger shrank as the taps of footsteps amplified in each stride.
"Oh, my bro Ayato. There you are." Itto faintly greeted him.
The third person smiled weakly.
Ayato always had excellent timing, it seemed. He curved a hand above Itto's shoulder and gave the stranger a cloudy sideways glance. His eyes were trained on the person in front of them, and in response, Takuya stood defensively. The horned "man" stepped back, preparing to sprint, while Ayato inserted two more steps into his space.
Ayato got in between both Itto and the stranger faster and more forceful than what the biker gang leader anticipated.
His voice was similar to yours when he spoke. It was dangerously low with unmatched vigor and sharpness above all else. "Excuse me, sir, but we're in a hurry. We will be taking our leave immediately."
Takuya nearly sighed in relief as the elegant man shut down the possibility of continuing a conversation. His trembling form bowed quickly while his foot was already turned in the opposite direction. They have to have known each other. Itto had never considered himself as astute, and yet he discovered that this "Takuya" isn't the real threat out of the three of them.
It was none other than Kamisato Ayato.
"Y-Yes... Yes, of course, sir. Farewell."
Takuya scurried away.
...
What was that all about?
What kind of stunts did Ayato pull around Shinjuku for him to come off as intimidating without his knowledge? Itto furrowed his eyes as he looked at Ayato's back. Children don't even find Itto scary, and he had the stereotypical troublemaker look. Ayato appears kind and gentle, maybe a bit standoffish, but his soft appearance shouldn't be able to scare some weird grunt away.
Ayato turned to face him.
Ah. So that's why.
His look of displeasure changed Itto's misconceptions immediately.
Ayato softened his expression once he realized Itto was staring, dumbfounded. He chuckled and tapped the biker's shoulder as if reminding him that the scary look wasn't aimed at him. Itto laughed nervously. Sure, it wasn't, but he made a mental note not to piss Ayato off, ever.
From that, Itto learned that Ayato can be as scary as you when he wants to be.
This man definitely got a dark side. Noted.
"Hey, uh, Ayato, did you see that?"
The light-haired man gave him an indifferent stare. "Saw what, exactly?"
"He had horns, my guy."
Itto began ruffling the top of his head– something he normally wouldn't do since he adores his hair– and created two triangular air shapes. His friend watched him, amused, but perplexed about what he was trying to communicate.
"Like, that dude got those devil horns going on– don't tell me you haven't seen it!"
"Hmm." Ayato hummed, a small grin plastered on his face.
"What would you do if I said I haven't seen anything? You're not afraid of yokai, aren't you?"
"What– C'MON!!!" Itto groaned loudly. "NOT YOU TOO– GAH!!! What's with you and (Y/n) today– enough with this "oooh-you're-afraid-of-this-aren't-yooouu" bullcrap! HELLO?!? I'm ARATAKI NUMERO UNO ITTO! Monsters and ghosts should be afraid of ME."
Ayato closed his eyes and shook his head, but his sly smile had not left his face. "Ah right, my apologies. How could I forget the unsurmountable one and oni Itto, how foolish of me."
"Exactl–..."
One and oni?
Itto both liked and didn't like the sound of that. Much like the taste of Kamisato Ayato's food, the phrase itched the nostalgic part of his brain. He couldn't tell where he first heard it. Ayato didn't even look like he made a mistake in saying "oni" instead of "only", rather, it slipped out of his tongue so naturally. Like he was hoping Itto would catch on to whatever he was implying.
Well, he didn't. He had no idea where Ayato was getting at and he only has about 2 brain cells left after that terrible migraine.
"And don't even joke about yokai stuff! I don't wanna get bad luck this Setsuban Festival."
Ayato raised an eyebrow.
"...I thought you were allergic to beans?"
"Yeah I am," Itto said. "And that's precisely I don't want any bad vibes for tomorrow. Can't have beans to save me from those onis, you know?"
Ayato muttered something Itto didn't hear.
"So you aren't fully human yet as well, hmm..."
"Say, why are you in the red light district? Don't tell me you're picking chicks around here."
Ayato refrained from rolling his eyes while Itto laughed.
"I'm not here for that, I'm trying to find a sist-- my little sister."
"Oh, oh! Tag me in! Lemme help. What does your sister look like?"
He appeared troubled when Itto volunteered to help. Ayato carefully chose his next words.
"She's shy and quite the formidable escapist. You wouldn't be able to find her unless you're looking at every nook and cranny."
"Sounds like bullshit."
Ayato technically didn't lie.
Itto continued. "Do you have a sister complex or something? Bro, I won't do anything to her. Just give me a description."
He shrugged. "Himegimi looks like me."
"Well, duh, of course, she does. Can't you be more specific? Like her height, hair, and eye color maybe--"
"Never mind it. Once she's tired of searching, she'll be back home soon enough."
"But, dude, your little sister is in the RED LIGHT DISTRICT! Aren't you worried--"
"She'll be fine."
"But men would--"
"She's small, they won't notice her."
Itto's unsure whether Ayato's brain is too advanced or he's acting stupid because that answer didn't make sense at all. Aren't smaller girls supposed to be in more danger around these parts? His head hurt. He always treated anyone smaller than him as kiddos-- and he can't imagine a kid can protect themselves from kidnappers.
Suddenly, they heard a strangle rumbling nearby.
Ayato looked at Itto and his stomach accusably.
He scratched his neck with a snobbish frown.
"Fiiiiine, I take it back. I'm hungry so I'll leave you searching for your sister. Alone. Without my help. At all."
Ayato, familiar with his antics by now, started leading Itto to walk alongside him.
"You're in luck then. I was planning to cook today. I haven't ordered Thoma to butcher the meat yet– but we will tonight. Perhaps you'd want to join me for dinner?"
"Holy shit, are you making those niku-dangos again?"
He nodded.
"For real? Hold on, let me tell grand-y first." He began messaging you.
"Haha, so you're back to calling our (Y/n) "Grand-y", I see."
Itto looked up from his phone. "Back to?"
Our?
Ayato nodded solemnly. Once again, he had that look that hints that he's trying to get Itto to remember something on his own, but Itto REALLY doesn't have the patience at this point. He's so dog-tired plus he's starving. Itto doesn't have time for any more mind games, whether it's that Takuya guy or Ayato.
Itto was surprised that you replied fast. Albeit, it was the default thumbs-up emoji and you might've mis-tapped but nu-uh, no takebacks allowed here, boss! Itto giggled like a preschooler as he bombarded you with smug Thank You stickers and emojis while you were (very slowly) typing a reply.
"From that look on your face, I am guessing that they agreed."
"Hell yeah, man! I can't wait to grab a bite of that sweet sweet taste of perfection, baby! C'mon, free delicious food? Count me in!"
"Wonderful."
Kamisato Ayato's lips contorted into a Cheshire cat-like grin.
"Let's eat him, together."

Spoiled Love
From Control - Full Story in Progress on AO3!
Graves x Reader
Graves felt like a different man after he returned from Al Mazrah. Colder. More stressed. Afraid, and at the end of his line...
Romance, Slow Burn, Hurt and Comfort, Angst, slight Character Study, Drama, a bit melodramatic I guess, secret relationship, FWB, Teasing, Shepherd is an asshole, Graves is too stressed to let you love him
Word Count: 3.3k
A somewhat angsty Graves x reader, where Graves is swamped and drowning in work, and the reader worries for him and struggles to help him. Might be boring, idk, sorry. More drama than romance, though the romance is more than implied.
Can be read as a one-shot, though I'd read this one first if you're new!

Something changed in Graves the day he came back from Al Mazrah. A darkness stirred in him in ways you've never seen before, clouding his eyes and turning them cold. It was such a stark difference from the Graves you've come to know this past year, you nearly felt you've come face-to-face with a stranger again.
Graves didn't want to talk about what happened when he got back. There were a million other things that called for his attention before his plane could even touch back down to HQ, and he saw no point in dwelling. Yet anyone who knew about Black Bag in the company knew the severity of the situation. Nothing would be the same again after everything that had happened.
But even so, Graves kept up this front, stepping off the plane by himself and having nothing but his own company to face alone. He wouldn't let himself waver once in front of his men. Keeping on as though he had everything under control.
As usual, he busied himself with what needed to be done next, letting his work keep him too distracted to stop and take a look at everything else going on in his life, continuing with business as usual. He'd spend his nights with you when he could spare the time; business as usual. And he never spoke a word of his troubles, which weighed on him more so by the passing days. Business as usual.
Looking back, maybe he just didn't want to worry anyone, or rather he did not want to worry himself. And had you no care, you may have taken this act of his at face value. Only you did care. Too much in fact, because you hadn't been aware of just how much it was you did until now.
This stormy night had been another long one. There were mountains of phone calls and paperwork that seemed to endlessly take precedence over anything else. You'd volunteered to do the bulk of it, seeing as your Commander already had a lot on his plate. But even as you hammered out a good chunk of all the tedious tasks for him, judging from how Graves hasn't left his office since this morning, you knew it'd be another late night of working until the sunrises before he could finally step out.
Seeing him this busy had been more jarring than you thought. Graves was always busy sure, but this? He'd work himself into an early grave before he'd ever come close to finishing everything.
So you meant to bring him a coffee that night, as a small gesture of kindness. You may not be able to knock him out of this funk he's found himself in suddenly, but you could be there for him in little ways.
However, you pause just outside his office door, upon hearing the sound of angry voices erupting from inside. Deep and dominant, attempting to talk over one another, before one finally speaks clearly enough for you to hear from the other side.
General Shepherd's.
"In case you've forgotten, you and your men are still under contract, commander."
You froze in place, a cold chill running down your spine suddenly. The General was here. You had a feeling Shepherd would want to meet with Graves about what happened; you'd hoped the conversation would be a cordial one. However, from the man's tone, you knew what he was saying had been anything but.
The General only continues to go on his rant, his voice damn near rumbling the door from its hinges. It's a good thing most of everyone had gone home for the night already. "This is just as much your fuck up as it is mine," Shepherd argues. "Now we can either fix this together, or you can go down with it. Your choice."
"That's what we're callin' this then?" You hear Grave speak now. "My choice?"
"It's an easy one, if you ask me," Shepherd calms more, his tone growing more patronizing by the second. "Do the right thing here, son. Having those missiles on the loose like this does no good for no one. It's bad for me, and it's especially bad for you and yours. Something like this can ruin a man's career for the rest of his life. I know that's not what you want."
Your stomach turns listening to the General speak. Of course he was going to frame this in a way that made things out to be more on the Shadows than himself. Never mind the fact that he gave the order and set all this up, to begin with. But despite the griminess of this, there wasn't anything Graves could do about it. You knew that, and he did too.
Graves had made his choice when he signed the dotted line and brought you all here.
You begin resting your ear against the door, straining to better hear them. To your dismay, it's only Shepherd who seems adamant to continue trying to weasel his way into your commander's mind.
"Now this can still be worth your while, if we get things done right this time," Shepherd coaxes. "Is that something your Shadows can do still? Or have I bet on the wrong horse?"
There's a small pause, but eventually, through the silence, you hear Graves' defeated voice say dully, "...It'll get done, sir. Count on it."
"Good," Shepherd says. "That's what I want to hear from you. That this'll get done. And that we won't have any more mistakes on your part. We can't have another repeat of what happened back there."
"There won't be, sir."
"Your men wouldn't want to see you cowering with your tail tucked between your legs after a single fuck-up, Graves," Shepherd says. "Now you get this done, and I'll make this worth your while. It's about time the Shadows made a real name for themselves, wouldn't you agree?"
You have to stop yourself from scoffing at the General's comment. The Shadows have made a name for themselves. A pretty well-established name too, one that's gone years growing on its own without the help of some washed-up general a little too power-hungry for his own good. Graves didn't need his help to get places; surely he wasn't buying this.
Was he?
You get so lost in thought that you nearly miss the heavy footsteps approaching the door suddenly. Too fast for you to be able to move before it's swung open, revealing you to the room like a surprise present. The next thing you know, you're standing face to face with a very caught-off-guard General looking down at you from the entryway.
As always he's outfitted himself in his dress uniform, his chest brandished with enough tin pieces of decoration to make a metal detector burst in flames. From the few times you've spoken with the General in the past, he's never seemed very impressed by your presence. That hasn't seemed to change much even now.
You look up at Shepherd awkwardly, before standing at attention and greeting him properly. Like him or not, he was still technically your boss's boss. Though you do continue to hold the coffee you'd brought for Graves in your hand, rather nonchalantly. "Good evening, sir," you say.
Shepherd looks you up and down, particularly fixated on the coffee. You could just tell he had a comment on his mind that might urk you if you heard it. Though he keeps it to himself, as do you keep your expressions in check, watching his lips get tight, his crow's feet intensifying.
The only thing that concerned you was the weight of Graves' gaze from behind him. Some mix between being happy to see you, and being too tired to want to deal with that fact.
"Shadow," he greets back. "We missed you back in Al Mazrah."
Unfortunately, you couldn't say the same. Had you been there you may not have returned. Your eyes can't help but drift into the room behind Shepherd, catching Graves slumping back over to his desk. You try not to stare for too long. "I wish I could have been there to help, sir."
"We'll find a use for you yet," he comments. "Excuse me."
You don't put up a fight letting Shepherd leave. The General walks around you, as you wait in the doorway for him to disappear behind one of the walls to the hall, before finally inviting yourself into your commander's office.
Graves sits at his desk, his hands placed solemnly over his head and elbows resting exhaustedly on his desk. He waits for you to shut the door behind you before he finally lets out that heavy sigh he'd kept in this whole time. "That man is going to be the death of me one of these days," he comments to himself.
You stop in front of Graves' desk, watching him remain still even as you draw near. "Let's hope not," you say casually. "We still need you, sir."
Graves appears less than amused than usual tonight. "You shouldn't keep poppin' by like this," he warns. "People notice that kind of shit."
You pause for a moment. You haven't forgotten about the secrecy of your relationship with your commander, given your roles. The fact that he felt the need to remind you only raised suspicion. Had something changed?
"I just thought you could use a little pick-me-up, nothing more."
You make your way over to his desk, placing the coffee down in front of him. You'd done so rather strategically, setting it close enough to see the man unable to resist inhaling its scent. You can't help but smile at the way he stares at the drink for a while, before finally caving in and sinking back into his seat, grabbing hold of the coffee.
"How kind of you, Songbird." Graves takes a sip, letting the warmth of it wash through him. He licks his lips and lets out a light groan. "It's perfect."
"What kind of second-in-command would I be if I didn't know what coffee you prefer?"
You see Graves finally take a moment to himself, closing his eyes to enjoy the coffee you'd brought. It felt good to see him not hunched over his desk for a change. The man seemed prone to forgetting to take moments to himself lately, needing the reminder more often than not.
Frankly, you're not sure who else would care for your commander, had you not been here. It didn't seem like he really had anyone else, the longer you've been around him. No one was waiting for him at home, no one wondering where he could be or how he was. No one other than you, and you weren't even supposed to.
You instinctively take your seat at the empty corner of Graves' desk, just a foot or so to his right. The moment you do, you feel his eyes on you, a witty remark already brewing in the air, telling you that his desk was not a chair. He'd say it every time you came by and did it, yet it never stopped you. Nor did he ever push enough for his warnings to mean anything.
Graves made no such comments on it tonight.
"You know me too well," he says.
Your mouth parts, ready to say something a little too sweet to him before you catch hold of that sentence suddenly, that excited glint in your eyes dimming ever so lightly. You're thankful he hadn't been looking at you when you did it; you hadn't meant to. Because you'd suddenly thought to yourself, would it be such a bad thing to know him too well?
You instead watch Graves' eyes drift off to one of the windows, watching the way the rain smacked against it. Lost in thought. It was a peculiar sight, seeing him this way; not very often was he a man who'd got lost in his own mind.
As his attention shortly drifted from you, your eyes dropped down to his desk, catching a glimpse at some of the paperwork he had scattered about. One file in particular catches your eye almost immediately. The file of a Shadow Company member, Erikson. One of the many who'd died that night of the operation.
A rock feels as though it's formed at the pit of your stomach, being reminded of the people your company lost recently. You could only imagine what Graves must have felt in comparison. He always had been personal with his men, knowing each and every one of you by name, and even remembering the little things you told him. Above all, you knew that so long as you served in his company that you would be someone to care for.
It's what made what happened in Al Mazrah all the more personal for him.
Yet Shepherd couldn't care less about the condition of Shadow Company or its leadership. The job always came before the people's well-being, and if a job well done meant Shepherd could stamp his name on it afterward, then he'd damn you all if need be.
You decide to finally speak. "How're you holding up?"
"I've been better, that's for sure," he admits. "But I've just gotta get caught up on the rest of this before we can get to fixin' things."
"Fixing?" You ask.
Graves pauses. He hadn't meant for you to read into his words, having spoken a bit more candidly than he might have realized. Still, it never took him long to find what words to say next.
"I got us into this," he says. "I'm doin' what I can to make sure we can get out."
You frown, seeing that Shepherd's words must have cut deeper than you'd hoped. "We all chose to be here," you say. "Don't blame yourself."
"As your commander, I find that a little hard not to do," he sighs, suddenly breaking his gaze away, almost shamefully. "I really might have fucked us with this one."
"Is it that bad?" You ask, though you know the answer already. General Shepherd had put your company in a real predicament.
"Bad would be an understatement," Graves says. "This is a fucking shitstorm. But if we keep at it, we can brush this off. I just need to figure out where we need to be next. After I get this done..."
Graves' rambling slowly leads him back to the paperwork on his desk, as he begins skimming files again, reaching over for his pen. You've lost count of how many days you've seen him in this exact position. Only his face grows more worn each day. It saddened you to see.
"Well," you push off from his desk suddenly, sauntering your way over to the commander instead. Graves sees that flirtatious look in your eyes and he has to keep from making a face. Though he does start to smile. "Why don't you take a small break and relax for a little," you say.
"Trust me, I want to," he sighs. "But I've really got work to do, Songbird."
"I understand." You get on your knees in front of Graves now, your eyes looking up at him provocatively. " Just sit back then. Let me take some of that stress away."
You rest your hands on the top of Graves' thighs, sliding them towards the insides, and watching the man sink back into his seat, his blue eyes peering down at yours with lust. You gently push his legs apart so you can take a better position between them. Once seated, one of your hands makes its gentle way to his crotch, your fingers finding a hardening Graves beneath the fabric, as a tattered huff exhales from his nose. It makes you smirk.
"Fuck," he says under his breath. "You really kill me sometimes, you know that?"
"Shh, relax," you whisper. You thumb him through his uniform, teasing him with your touch as your spare hand made its way to his buckle. Doing the only thing in your power you knew could make the man happy for a short while. The only thing he's seemed responsive to thus far. "Let me take care of you."
That's all you really wanted to do -- take care of him. This man you've found yourself slowly growing more invested in, each day you spend together. You enjoyed making his nights easier, you enjoyed being that distraction. You wanted him to finally start letting you into his world. Everything you wanted from him, you want to give.
You stroke him slowly, your fingers having found the shape of him through his pants, getting a good feel for him. As your hand rubs up and down against him, Graves cocks his head back in his chair, his chest rising and falling the longer you touch him.
There's nothing he wanted more than to let you continue; he wanted to feel you finally get that buckle undone and spring him free from his uniform. Picturing how warm and wet your mouth would be the minute you let your lips wrap around him, your tongue tracing love letters on his skin like you do every night. Just picturing it had him twitching with lust in your palms.
Yet any time his eyes would open back up, and he could no longer just imagine that it was only you here that mattered, he'd only remember that he's in his office. And then he remembered everything else that rests on his shoulders right now. You included.
You pause when Graves suddenly lifts a hand, gently cupping your cheek. His hands are rough and callous, yet you can't help but snuggle against it. The expression you make seems to draw in a longing gaze from him. Though his other hand reaches for the one you have touching him, his fingers stopping you in your tracks.
"Another night, darlin'," he says.
For a moment you had thought of protesting, though when you took a good look at him, that urge had given way. You see a man who wants to work. A man on a mission. A man too afraid to take a minute to himself when there was a job to do. How could you compete with that?
You accept defeat, making a gentle sigh. For a moment you felt embarrassed by how forward you'd been, given the rejection. However, at the very least it didn't seem as though Graves had the attention span to really pay any mind to it. His mind was in a million other places.
"I'm sorry," you say awkwardly, beginning to sit up from between his legs. However, Graves takes hold of your arm, keeping you near, at least for the moment.
"I'm sorry," he says instead. "I wish... well..." Graves' voice trails, his eyes getting lost in yours, too guarded to read and yet too bittersweet to look away from. "Give me some time. I'll make this right."
"Hey we've got nothin' but time still, right?" You smile, leaning forward so that you could taste the coffee on his lips. Graves doesn't stop you as you come in, letting your lips find his and wrap him into a slow, tender kiss. When you move to pull away, he only keeps his hand on your arm, leaning forward to chase your lips again. Wanting to stay this way with you for the rest of the night.
Had an email notification not dinged so loudly on his computer, he may have almost forgotten where he was.
Graves pulls away from you, his eyes instinctively traveling over to his desktop to see who may have emailed him. You couldn't help but chuckle at the desperation in his eyes as he did it, finally standing up away from him.
You make your way back to the exit, prepared to leave. However, you can't stop thinking about Graves' face, or the exhaustion in his words. How he wished for you not to care for him.
"Graves," you stop right before the door, looking back at him reassuringly. He looks up at you from his computer, waiting patiently. "Don't kill yourself working too hard," you say to him.
"I can't make any promises, Songbird."
No, he couldn't make any promises. None to you, and none that his job did not outweigh. All his promises have been left for his real passion in life. As you two agreed. Only now that things have only gotten worse at work, perhaps you were starting to regret having agreed to such terms so recklessly.
Graves doesn't say anything else after that, though his face does soften up. It's enough for you to part from him with a smile. A smile that only wavers the moment it can no longer see him.

The Finer Things
Mask On, Mask Off - Part 4
Tumblr media
Description: Ines lives a modest life in Brooklyn but has a secret, a valuable painting. Out of nowhere Vincent De Gramont appears and wants to help her sell it. He welcomes her into a life of luxury the question is just why?
Characters: Vincent De Garmont, The Marquis, From John Wick 4.
Setting: This story is set in my own universe, so not exactly the John Wick universe.
Warnings: 18+, prejudice and stereotypical thinking about nationalities, mentions about sex, mentions about prostitution.
She was at The Louvre. She would go to an event at The Louvre. Ines looked at the impressive glass pyramid outside of the museum with Vincent next to her. The car had just dropped them off and she wasn't prepared for the event being at the world’s most famous art museum. Christ, the Mona Lisa was hanging there!
She looked around with big eyes while Vincent showed their invitation for the guard. There were rich, well dressed people everywhere. The men in formal wear and the women in sleek dresses, showing off stereotypical Parisian curves, in other words, not many curves at all. Even if Ines was dressed up she felt like a stain on white silk. All the women looked perfect in high heels and smooth hair but it was also one more detail that stood out. All of them wore masks, extravagant masks fitting for a masquerade party in the 1800th century.
She had known she wouldn't fit in but had believed she would feel more okay with it but now didn't feel as sure. Without saying anything the Marquis took her hand and pulled her into a corner, hidden by a pillar. Ines looked at him curiously while he stretched out his hand. In it was a red mask, decorated with rhinestones in a similar color.
“I thought you would have a red dress,” he said, not as an excuse, more as it was just annoying facts. Ines looked at the mask.
“Will everyone have these sort of masks? Is it a orgy party or something?” She asked while putting the mask against her face. Vincent didn't say anything, just put on his own extravagant mask in black but with peacock feathers and gold glitter.
“Why is your mask so much prettier than mine?” Whined Ines and looked at her own mask again.
“Because I let a designer do it. I didn't have time to get one for you. I didn't know I would have a date for the night.”
Ines looked up at him from her mask, meeting his green eyes surrounded by the colorful feathers.
“Date?” Said Ines as a reflex.
“Yes. They call a guest a date in the invitation so you're my date.”
The Marquis didn’t give away any emotions so Ines accepted his answer.
“Should I help you with that one?” He nodded towards her mask and Ines took up it towards her face again. Vincent walked around her to tie it around her head, making a perfect bow with the red ribbon but it wasn't anything Ines noticed, how he put energy to make it completely symmetrical.
“When we are inside I will let you mingle,” said Vincent bluntly and fixed his cufflinks.
“Okay,” said Ines with a nod, she knew how to mingle.
“And I will be… around,” continued Vincent. Ines looked up at him with furrowed brows.
“Around? You mean we will not go together?”
“I promise you, having a tall, handsome, well dressed man like me by your side will not make rich men talk to you. It's better if you mingle alone, tell them about your painting… Maybe you can flirt a little?” He said the last part carefully, like he had encouraged her to prostitution. Ines smirked and looked down on her feet. It was noticeable he hadn't understood how her Friday nights used to look. She was an expert at flirting, how else would you get free stuff?
“Okay. That's fine. But can I call if there is something?”
Vincent looked down at her again and as a symbolic gesture he opened his jacket, showing off his phone in the inner pocket, but also a gun sticking up from the waistband of his suit pants.
“I will answer.”
×××
It came natural for Ines to mingle around with people and even if she was nervous at first, walking around among all the rich fine people she relaxed quickly. Behind the mask she could be someone else and instead feeling like the stupid American girl, she felt exotic and sexy. There were many curious eyes on her.
She told people about her painting, flirted and received business cards. She felt pleased with herself when she called Vincent. She hadn't seen him all night but if she was honest, when she was her flirty self he would just be in the way.
“Already done? Someone interested?” He said calmly. Ines stood in a corner outside the ladies restroom talking with The Marquis on the phone. She was a little tipsy on champagne and leaned against the wall. She couldn't understand how these rich people could drink so much without seeming affected.
“I have twelve business cards…” she said, pleased. Vincent cleared his throat.
“Mhm.”
“What? Isn't that good?” Ines said disappointed.
“No it's good…” The Marquis sounded weirdly detached and Ines felt the nerves come up again.
“Can we meet where the car dropped us off?” He asked.
“So we should leave now? I really thought it would be an orgy,” she joked but didn't get a reaction from Vincent.
“Just meet me, now.”
Ines had a weird feeling while walking out to Vincent. There was something that felt off. It was everything from his mood, the gun but also the fact she hadn't seen him all night. It felt like he was hiding something.
He stood by the black car without his mask, Ines took off hers too and walked up to him with quick steps. He looked irritated, with pursed lips and his hands deep in his pockets.
“Are you seriously irritated with me for something? I just did what you told me to do!” She said annoyed and crossed her arms. Vincent looked her up and down and she could see his hands move in his pants pockets. He cleared his throat and seemed to examine her face.
“Just let’s go home…” he muttered and opened the door for her. Ines rolled her eyes and jumped in. It felt like she could never do anything right. It had felt so promising in the beginning of the night.
In the hotel she walked to her room and pulled off the uncomfortable dress and put on a big t-shirt. She was ready to go to bed. She had nothing to do, no good company and was also tired by all the champagne she had been drinking but when she had just crawled down under the cover a light knock could be heard against her door.
“Come in,” she said just so Vincent would understand he could actually open the door and walk in and he did. He wore just his slacks and the suit shirt, his suspenders hanging on his hips. He had a glass in his hand and looked at her softly.
“I'm sorry for my bad mood…”
“Did I do something wrong?” Asked Ines carefully and played with the cover.
“No, no… It was just something else…” he said with a sigh. To Ines surprise he suddenly sat down on the side of her bed and placed his glass on her night stand. They weren't even three feet from each other. If she leaned forward she would have been able to look down his shirt, see his smooth chest but Vincent's usually proper manner made her feel weird about it.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She said softly. Maybe he had things he needed to talk with a friend about but didn't have any friends? He gave her a look. He looked intoxicated and she wondered what the amber liquid in his glass was. The Marquis licked his lips and with some hesitation he leaned towards her and kissed her lips softly. Ines had seen it happen, his smooth but doubtful movement and felt her pulse go up at once. He actually kissed her. His lips were soft and plump and he tasted strong of the spirit. He opened his eyes slowly, they were obviously affected by alcohol but maybe something more. Ines couldn't tell.
“Do it again…” she whispered. Vincent laid his hand on her neck and with his thumb on her jugular, he pushed her face up towards his. He kissed her again, more determined this time and it made Ines moan into his mouth. He continued kissing her and a sneaky tongue pushed in between her lips. Even if she got exactly what she had wanted she wasn't pleased and stood up on her knees to be able to deepen their kisses even more. She moved his hand down from her neck to her waist where the thin cotton t-shirt was the only barrier between his hand and her naked body. With a hard grip around her waist he pulled her close to his body and leaned back on his elbow. The kisses heated fast and his hand moved up so his thumb dragged on the underside of her breast. To be close to Vincent was too amazing and Ines couldn't stop the giggle from jumping out from her full lips.
“And you said you weren't interested at all…” she teased and looked at Vincent's intoxicated eyes. For a moment she thought he would smile but it turned to a painful grimace and he shoved her away softly but determinedly.
“Of course you were forced to talk…” he muttered and stood up. Ines looked at him confused but it turned to anger fast.
“What do you mean with that? What? You come into my room and push your tongue into my mouth but think I should just be quiet??” She said upset and got a hard gaze from Vincent back. He snatched up his glass from the night stand and then turned to the door.
“Forget this happened.”
He chugged the last of the spirit in his glass and put it down on the stand again before walking to the door.
“C'est juste une jolie fille… Ne détruis pas tout pour une chatte…”
He muttered for himself. Ines looked at him upset, she was sure he had said something bad about her and without thinking she threw a pillow in his head. His perfect hair got ruined by his neck and he stopped in his steps.
“Did you just throw a pillow in my head?” He said through his teeth and turned around slowly. Ines felt a knot in her stomach when she saw his killer look. This was not the man she had been with this last week.
“No?” she swallowed hard and sank down on the mattress.
The Marquis stood and looked at her with dark eyes before walking up to her slowly. Ines felt panic spread in her body, would he hit her?
“Up!” He exclaimed when he stood by the bed. Ines looked down at the cover and swallowed hard but then did as he said. She was too afraid to find out what would happen if she didn't do what he said. She stood just in front of him. Even if she wasn't that short she felt tiny when she stood in front of him. He had his arms crossed and she could see the veins trying to push out from his skin.
“I should… Punish you for your behavior… But…” he threw his head back and groaned loudly. In a fast movement he attacked her lips with his, so hard it felt like she would fall. Ines just kissed back with a beating heart. She let her emotions guide her now and just let it happen. Her otherwise questioning self would have asked what he actually wanted but his kisses were too passionate to stop just to ask such a question.
Vincent sat down on the bed and with a hand on the back of her thigh he prompted her to straddle his lap. She just followed his directions and let herself disappear into his bubble where it tasted like spirits and spearmint and smelled like floral perfume and vanilla. She was used to men smelling bad or wearing too strong cologne but he smelled of the scents she herself liked.
Vincent threaded his fingers through her hair and with a light pull he got her to lean back.
“Yes I am interested. Okay? But I can't be. I can't. So now you must help me end this. Prove I can trust you,” he said slowly, like he explained something to a child.
Ines leaned back even more and looked between his eyes. She didn't understand but also knew she never would. Vincent let her go and doubtfully she stood up and let him do the same.
Vincent cleared his throat, fixed his hair and his clothes. It looked like he thought he could get back into his hard shell just by fixing his appearance but Ines looked at him differently now. There was something softer, more insecure behind his hard exterior. He wasn't as well polished as he tried to seem.
Vincent walked to the door and turned around and looked at her with big eyes.
“Good night.”
“Good night…” she answered while playing with her fingers in front of her. She wished he could stay, sleep close to her and maybe show more of his soft self but he had asked her to keep away and she would respect that. It was obviously important for him, even if she couldn't understand what a make out session with her would harm.

The next morning Ines did everything to be ready to meet Vincent again. He had visited her dreams that night, with naked skin, soft kisses and an open heart. It felt like her own heart was trying to escape when she woke up with a sweaty neck and another moisture between her legs. She wanted him so badly and she needed to find out why he couldn't just let her come close.
She did her make up to perfection, in that natural, modest way he seemed to like and then looked through the clothes he had got her. She had a tight pencil skirt and a lavender colored silky blouse. It would do, even if it would have been a better outfit with heels. She left her feet bare just like he always did and tippy toed out from her bedroom. The big window in the room connecting all of the suite’s rooms welcomed her out with bright sunlight and she felt it gave her power to try to come close to Vincent, talk to him in a real, intimate way. She looked around in the suite but realized quickly that it was empty. He wasn't there. Ines looked in through the doorframe to his bedroom where the bed already was made and none of his things were on show. She thought for a second that he maybe had left her but knew he wouldn't. She knew him that well now, he wouldn't just leave.
She accepted that he once again had left and ordered up some breakfast. She didn't have a problem activating herself either and planned to go to the library and flirt with European tourists in hotel bars. Just because she wanted The Marquis she could still entertain herself. By lunch she left the suite to take the elevator down. She could see the other guard standing outside of the room they had the painting in, otherwise the corridor was empty.
“Excuse me, do you know where Vin… The Marquis is?” She asked him out of curiosity. He looked at her with a weird look before answering.
“Juste derrière toi.”
Ines looked at him confused but also a bit annoyed, if he could understand her, he must be able to speak English?
“Right behind you, he said.”
It was Vincent's voice, just behind her and that made her jump. As a reflex she turned around and hit his chest.
“Don't scare me like that!”
Vincent looked between her face and the spot she had hit with furrowed brows.
“Sorry, just a reflex,” she said, embarrassed and looked at him with blushing cheeks. She looked at him up and down where he stood in his camel colored three piece suit and perfect hair. He was so beautiful and the burgundy colored shirt made his green eyes pop. Vincent nodded a little and turned to the door to the suite. Ines didn't react to him being alone because she just admired his looks. The full lips, high cheekbones, his jaw… But what was that? Something red was smeared on his jawline and her heart stopped because it looked like the perfect shade of red lipstick but it wasn't lipstick. It was blood.
“Is that blood?” She walked closer to see better and Vincent gave her a wide eyed look. He looked stressed for a moment before he looked away.
“Where?” He dragged his hand over his neck.
“Here, let me,” she said and wet her thumb with her tongue before trying to rub the spot away.
“It's from a close shave, right?” She said with a smile and looked deep in his eyes. Vincent looked back at her, letting her wipe away the blood with her saliva. They look deeply in each other's eyes, much deeper than they had before. Something happened right then and there between them none of them had expected. Ines understood it wasn't his blood, Vincent's could see she didn't care whose blood it was. He nodded as an answer to her question even if the answer didn't matter.
Ines sucked her thumb clean while Vincent looked at her with big eyes. He cleared his throat awkwardly before taking her hand in his and opening the door to the suite.
“I met a person interested in your painting…” he said softly while leading her in through the door. Ines felt her pulse go up from his warm hand but also the memory of him watching her suck her thumb. She knew he was up to no good but she didn't care. He was a bad man, just like Faith had said but she had never cared about that.

When either team black and team Green stans talk about Nettles, no matter the sides they always ALWAYS dim down her character to the relationship she has with Daemon and Rhaenyra especially Daemon and it's just pathetic on both sides. Green stans see her character as a child that has been groomed and use it as a "Ah ha!" Moment against Daemon's character, Team black stans see her as the reason why their stupid ship falls apart and both sides are just completely blind to her character. She's so much more than that, this girl who grew up ALONE on the streets and KEPT HERSELF ALIVE for 17 years was OUTSMARTED a bunch of highly trained and skilled soilders and was able to claim a wild dragon, Sheepstealer is the ONLY wild dragon that someone was able to claim and Nettles, someone who wouldn't know anything about dragons, didn't grow up around the culture of dragons etc was able to do that SHE DID THE IMPOSSIBLE. And yet, they want to use her character for their petty arguments when she is so much more than that. Also, I find it hilarious when people think of her character as some naive little girl who gets easily manipulated. You know who was a naive little girl that got easily manipulated? Rhaenyra! Do you know what makes Rhaenyra and Nettles different? Rhaenyra is a sheltered, spoiled princess who grew up in the comfort of castle walls, whereas Nettles has seen the real world. She's apart. If it is, she's not living some sheltered life she's seen and been through a lot in her youth. I'm sorry for the rant, but I'm just tired of seeing her character get dumbed down and used by both sides. Nettles is smart and cunning BEFORE the dance and AFTER the dance. When she gets sent away and ends up on her own again (with the addition of Sheepstealer), she kept herself and her dragon alive and became an actual deity among men, she was smart enough to do that. She's a fighter, she's a survivor, she's brave, she's compassionate, she's smart, she's cunning, she's caring, she's so much more than just some groomed child/mistress.

Pretty much. Which is why I’m just #team Nettles over here. It’s very clear that the vast majority of both teams don’t view her as an actual character in her own right and instead view her either as a nuisance(cue she’s only Daemon’s daughter and if you say otherwise, especially if you say Daemon loved her in a romantic capacity, I’ll say your a total liar and bury my head in the sand when you bring in facts) or a tool(cue poor Rhaenyra and Nettles, it’s so sad how Daemon groomed them both😔 Protect Nettles and the racist white woman who tried to kill her while she was possibly pregnant✊).
They do always try to dim her light and make her seem unimportant. Yeah, she’s a secondary character, but that’s never stopped the praise before. There are plenty of secondary players who have people who they actually care about and make up a ton of crap for.
However, with Nettles, even her accomplishments are picked over, stolen, and put on other characters with little backlash.
Like the anti-Blackness is permeating throughout their posts on her. Because if you want Nettles to be a Magical Negro to Rhaenyra’s overprivileged dumba** behind, her Mammy, view her as a little girl when she’s a grown woman, or else you’ll call her a Jezebel, let’s make no mistake, it’s misogynoir:

The reason why I bring up her relationship with Daemon so much is because her romance with him is a part of her story. Taking that away(and trying to pawn her off to second-tier boys) only serves to limit her characterization and reinforce stereotypes. They don't think she's desirable. We don’t need more she’s a strong independent Black woman who doesn't need a man stories. Especially not ones where she’s dedicating her life to a psychotic white woman. That’s regressive asf.
Nettles’ character is worth way better analysis and actual praise than what she’s being given. While she may be a secondary character she’s actually important to the narrative.
She grew up a homeless orphan(which is why it’s so insulting when people try to act like she’s a freaking idiot who doesn’t know how to bathe herself yet she can tame a dragon🤦🏽‍♀️ Put most of the highborn women in her position and they wouldn’t survive a day in her shoes).
She’s the only known non-Valyrian dragonrider who claims a wild dragon. A prince who believes in Valyrian supremacy falls in love with her to the point where he’s willing to sacrifice his life for her.
Nettles is self-made. She’s self-taught. She’s loved for herself. She survives a freaking war and becomes a fire goddess/witch. Who wouldn’t want her? Who wouldn't want to be her? She’s the sh*t 😎
At this point, I’m over it. I’m waiting for her to get more than a handful of fans and to see her get a somewhat happy ending (unless the show wants to face major backlash by killing her off when she survives in the books, she’ll get her happy ending). The Dumbnyra and Fettles stans can go cry and voice their concerns about that🤷🏽‍♀️
