can we also talk about Marion's choices? Choosing to give his reclaimed soul to Jean is so layered in love for both her, Sean, and himself I just-
The woman you've fallen in love with is breaking, believing that she too is just another monster in this terrible world. But Marion doesn't let her believe it, he shows her that she still has so much capacity to help, so much capacity for kindness and gentleness still. He shows her that even through all the tragedy and sadness, there can still be good and beauty and while its good to grieve, it's possible to carry on.
He made peace with his younger self, apologizing to that young Marion in the garden for the hell he is about to unleash/has already experienced, while also claiming back a major piece of his trauma for himself. Its like he sorta reverse uno'd his trauma, it still exists but he gets to hold it now, not some otherworldly beast that haunted him his entire life. It is in his control now, and he can make peace with it.
and Sean.... his most beloved friend, who has been through hell and back and hell again. Marion knew how much pain he was in, the agony and suffering and anger he carried with him. And sometimes you feel you have no other choice than to let go, its the only way Sean felt he would have ever been able to find peace and it sucks it sucks that this is what it came to. But Sean made his decisions, was more than ready to give himself up to keep his mother safe and Marion made a promise, he promised would never let Sean go through anything alone ever again. And he kept it. Marion had so much love to give and I love that Luis followed that to the end.

fic title: set adrift and alight?
It's not that Liv is listless, per-say. It's just... Okay. Take a step back, then take this step by step.
Blaseball isn't all he's ever known, but it's dominated and defined his life for decades now.
Blaseball is over, the Umpires declaring a new leader, a siesta, and then a quiet ending years later.
Everyone they had known in the Black Hole never came back when everything ended.
And that's. That's fine! She knew when she felt herself slip away and enter freefall that she might not see them again. She landed in the Charlestons and found Ankle there, she helped greet everyone who arrived after her in the years that followed, she had time to make peace with the holes in her life. She made peace with it.
And it's not like he didn't have plenty to do in the aftermath either. Sunken Charleston had been using Blaseball as an anchor of sorts and trying to settle that out and relearn how to two-step across a space that was suddenly spongey and stretch underfoot, like sprinting across a trampoline, that was a whole other experience. He and the team (and the former team, once a thief always a thief after all) had had to really band together to figure out how to safely navigate that space again.
It's just... They'd actually liked playing, was the thing. They don't admit it to anyone else, but they had. On the good days, the days where the Umps weren't burning up dangerous or the slush-ice of immateria wasn't dragging people under, it had been fun. Exciting. The GOOD sort of burn.
Oliver Loofah had long ago made peace with Blaseball maybe killing her and sending her (back) to the Hall. She'd just never actually made plans for surviving it, or what would come after.
Or figuring out how to stay in touch with people who he doesn't know will remember him at all now they have nothing in common.

Resa and Cockerell?
Resa: When did you first read Inkheart?
I got the book for my 10th birthday and I think I started properly reading it a few months later? Maybe a year? I remember that it spent a long while just sitting next to my bed and I'd just reread the first few pages. My cat really liked to sit on it. :D Eventually I sat down to really focus on it and immediately became obsessed.
Cockerell: What are your hopes for the 4th Inkworld book?
Oh Man. Okay.
Generelly speaking, I hope it opens the Inkworld up a little more without feeling like Reckless Light™. I know Cornelia is really excited about drawing connections between the books and that's fair, but, to me at least, the two stories still feel very distinct. And I hope TCoR fits in with the other three Inkworld books instead of trying to be a hybrid. For example, if some plot point is resolved with the help of Magical Fairytale Item #72, I'm gonna be less than happy.
I also hope it doesn't introduce too many entirely new characters. There should be some, obviously, but the comments Cornelia made about how new people keep showing up in the story made me a little nervous... We already know and love so many players in this world, I want the focus to be on them. That said, I really love the whole witch thing and Jehan's friend sounds adorable, I DO want to know more about her! Just, give me a few chapters about Dustfinger and the Prince and their whole history. With everyone else fridged for the time being, those two should get some quality time together. :')
Speaking of Dustfinger, I am. torn.
Part of me wants him to murder Orpheus. Just straight up kill him.
On the other hand, though... It would feel weird. For all these years, he's been such a pacifist at heart, I wouldn't want him to deal with the emotional aftermath of what he's done. Because despite everything, I don't think he could just walk away from that. Remember when he killed Basta that second time? That scene, short as it is, doesn't feel violent at all. More like doing an old enemy a favor. And I love that moment but something like that wouldn't make sense with Orpheus... Maybe they end up in a situation where killing him would be the kind thing to do, and Dustfinger doesn't? I don't know... Either way, I'm looking forward to the inevitable confronation of these two.
Basically: Dustfinger can kill if he wants to. I'll support him no matter what. <3
Wow I need to shut up. Some more hopes of mine, lightning round:
Brianna content, specifically Brianna-finally-bonding-with-her-father-content (yes I'm still emotional about that wristband she made him)
We meet the Black Prince's younger sisters
The Barn Owl shows up or is at least mentioned
Some kind of throwback to Capricorn and his men, idc what exactly I just want them mentioned
Witch lore. I wanna know all about them.
At least one of the new characters is another Bird Person
Proper love interest for Violante (not the Black Prince, I don't think they'd work out in the long run (although they do make a pretty intense power couple.) (Also Brianna is literally right there-)
Gwin bites the shit out of someone and is also immortal
The Prince's bear bites the shit out of someone and is also immortal
"Orpheus' evil plan fails because Balbulus is racist" plot point stays, that shit is so funny to me
Cornelia really leans into the whole 'Illustration as magic' theme, esp in contrast to 'Writing/reading as magic' as we had it in the previous books
Mo does not fully go back to his Bluejay persona and people who were there for the events of Inkdeath but don't really know him are super confused about why he won't just kill his enemies
Resa however...
Thank you for the questions! :)
