#but jesus why the fuck do i feel too ‘other’ around her and why am i trying to heal that by hoping for her romantic feelings back for me

miguel getting mad because you keep waking him up.
i’d think that he won’t get mad mad. because he loves his darling too much to make her upset🥹
-
he sighs in frustration as his eyes become wide eyed open. can’t seem to fall asleep anymore now that you keep poking him everywhere.
“what is it this time, baby?” he calls you by one of your favorite pet names although he feels rather annoyed at you for disturbing his peace. “it’s close to 1 am. go to sleep.”
he tries to tell you as calmly as possible, obviously irritated but not to the point where he’d snap at you. he’s too much of a gentleman to do that.
you prop yourself on of your elbows, the strap of your midnight blue dress slips a bit. “do you love me, miggy?”
he frowns, turning around to look at you. “you woke me up for that shit?”
with a small pout, you pretend to look sad. eyes casting down to your fingers. “i didn’t hear a yes…”
“dios mío” he mutters, palms running over his tired face as his head shakes at your childish—but cute—behavior. “yes of course i love you, mi amor. i’d tear down the sky and would fucking kill for you. why are you even asking me a stupid question?”
you shrug your shoulders as you smile. feeling your cheeks warm at his response. “nothing, solo me preguntaba.”
“okay, anything else?”
the smile disappears from your face as a frown soon replaced it. “why the fuck do you sound like that? am I annoying to you?”
“Jesus Christ, woman! I do not sound annoyed” he whispers yell, finding it hard to believe that the two of you are basically arguing about this in the middle of the night,
“nunca podrías molestarme, mi vida” his cold fingers reaching up to graze lightly against your soft cheek, internally relieve that you quickly melt into his touch. “you will most definitely be the death of me but I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
your heart tugs at that, softly biting the inside of your cheek to hold back the smile that’s itching to make an appearance.
“i love you, Miguel.” you respond. “you’re it for me. i just know it.”
he grins widely, folding his arm behind his head as he admires every single detail of your beauty. your pretty eyes, your nose, your gorgeous gorgeous smile that could make anyone fall into their knees. the way your hair falls perfectly against your shoulder.
you’re it for him too. he believes that.
“i love you more, darling” he whispers softly. “now can we get back to sleep? I’m really really exhausted.”
you nod, moving a bit closer to his body and making yourself comfortable. “of course, baby. I’m sorry for waking you.” you rest your head against his bare chest, fingers tracing circles on it because you know how much he loves it,
he shakes his head in disapproval. “nothing to apologize, mi amor. now go to sleep.” he kisses the crown of your head as you slowly fall into a deep sleep. soft heavy breathing of yours is the only thing that fills up the room that night,
miguel feels his heart is full. a grateful smile seems to never leave his face as he hold his woman close to him.
soon as he realizes you’re finally asleep, Miguel turns his head towards the bedside table, hand reaching out behind a lamp as he blindly searches for one of the most important thing in his life that will change his future.
a small sigh of relief escapes his mouth as he finally grasps it in his palm. the small red velvet box that he has been hiding for months.
he carefully flicks it open and the beautiful encrusted diamond ring is secured. not a single scratch or defect is yet to graze it.
Miguel tends to imagine what it’s like to have a family with you. because the two of you have talked about it before, and no one is more excited and eager than he is.
he carefully sets it back to its hidden place after closing it back. a place where he knows for sure you won’t find it.
he really can’t wait to marry you.

Eddie finds himself up on a table in the school cafeteria, shouting at the dumb jocks and trying to live up to his reputation as The Freak of Hawkins High School. It’s not too hard to seal his fate, and with it comes some fear from other students who wouldn’t dare mess with him. Plus, the populars know he’s their weed supply, so they can’t say too much.
Honestly, it’s a bit fun. Getting on a table. Lecturing some people about shit that goes right over their head. It all kind of gives him a rush. And he loves when his friends egg him on.
Which is why when Gareth and Jeff start yelling his name, Eddie only speaks louder as he steps backward on the table, trying to get all his friends and the rest of the cafeteria in his view. He lives off of the praise. The way they shout his name in an encouraging tone-
Wait. Why do they sound nervous, and why are they reaching for him?
Before Eddie can process what his friends are trying to say WATCH OUT YOU ARE STEPPING OFF THE EDGE OF THE TABLE. Eddie is already falling.
Maybe he’ll actually graduate this year and he’ll be able to blame a concussion for his bad grades.
Only, he doesn’t hit the floor.
Surprisingly, he actually feels really supported and warm and…
Eddie opens his eyes and finds Steve Harrington staring down at him. And not only that, his arms are wrapped around him and holy shit-
“Am I in heaven?” Eddie asks.
Steve smiles and replies, “I’m pretty sure you’re still in hell.”
Then, Eddie is being let out of Steve grip and his feet are touching the ground. So… not in heaven. Steve just caught him. Jesus H. Christ.
“Uh, right. Joking. Um. Thanks… Steve,” Eddie stutters out, and since when does he stutter? Fuck.
Steve just smiles at him further and… why is he looking at Eddie’s lips? What the hell is happening?
“Maybe be more careful next time,” Steve says and winks at him.
Eddie just nods, and Steve walks off.
Eddie sits down in his seat, pressing his cold hands to his hot cheeks.
“Dude, what the fuck just happened?”
“Did you just get hit on by Steve The Hair Harrington?”
“And did you get flustered when that happened?!”
“Shut up!” Eddie yells and covers his face with his hands. He glances over to where Steve sits down across from his ex, Princess Nancy Wheeler, and her new boyfriend, Creepy Jonathan Byers. But then Steve catches his eye and winks again.
“Fuck,” Eddie mutters under his breath. “One more year, just one more year,” he says to himself trying as hard as he can not to look at Steve again.
It’s going to be a long year.

Tumblr media
“Okay, okay,” You laughed. “One more hit then I’m tapped out, Eds.”
Eddie grinned, speaking through a half-held breath. “Oh no, Sweetheart. New stuff hittin’ a little too hard?”
You inhaled deeply, passing back to him what was left of the joint. It went straight to your head, and you flopped back, laying comfortably on Eddie’s bed.
Eddie inhaled, following suit, making your body bounce as he hit the mattress.
“Shit,” he mumbled. “Feel like I’m fuckin’ flying.” He grips your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours. “Don’t let me float away, okay?”
You smile at him, taking in how fucking beautiful he looks under the dim lights in his bedroom.
“Never. You’re stuck with me, Eds.”
He looks down at you, a smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth. He took you in like he'd done 100 times before. Eyes trailing from your nose, to your eyes, landing at your mouth.
So fucking beautiful.
“Good," he breathes, pulling you in closer. "Just the way I like it.”
Eddie let go of you hand, only to wrap his arm around you and pull you into his chest. He placed a kiss to the crown of your head, "This okay?"
It's all I want. You think.
"Or do we have to get up and go watch that cheesy chick-flick I promised we'd watch.
You sighed, fiddling with the hem of your denim skirt. "I'd stay here all night if you let me."
That's all I want. He thinks.
Eddie leans back a bit, looking down at you. He's not sure if it's the weed making his so emotional, but he swears he could cry just looking into your eyes. "What am I gonna do if one of these dates you keep going on works out? What if someone takes you from me?"
He tries to sound relaxed, but the truth is, the thought keeps him up at night. There’s gonna be a guy that steals you away from him one of these days. Someone who can give you everything he can’t, someone brave enough to open their mouth and tell you just how much they love you.
and it'll crush him.
The laugh that escapes you is a cynical one, "Eddie, I've been on three dates with three different men, and I've gone home alone each time."
"So?" He asks.
"So," You scoff. "It means no one is interested in doing anything with me."
It’s true—to you at least. The guys you’d gone out with were either not looking to be tied down, or ran once they met you. The last guy thought you’d be easy because ‘the freak’s best friend has to be a freak herself right?’
The dates were a distraction for you. As your heart pined over the one guy you could have it all with, it was breaking too. Eddie hadn’t made a move on you—ever, and you weren’t brave enough too.
So the two of you sat in limbo, completely unaware that the other person was right there with you.
Eddie sits back, releasing you from his arms. "Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" You ask, sitting back as well.
"That. Act like you're the problem, and not these shitty fucking dudes you keep going out with.” Eddie tried to control his tone, but his temper got the better of him. He cursed at himself for it.
Jesus H. Christ, Munson, get it together.
You push back from him fully now, "Eddie, the common denominator is me. I-I'm fucking broken or something."
“Stop that.” He seethed.
It’s a command—a tone you've heard him use with Steve, or Dustin, but not you.
Never with you.
Eddie stood as you sat up, hanging your legs off the edge of the bed.
"What--"
He turned back and got to his knees right in front of you.
“Stop talking about yourself like that. It’s fucking ridiculous.”
He was close to you, and with him on his knees, his gaze was just at your eye level. “You’re not broken. There's nothing wrong with you, you’re—you’re fucking perfect.”
“Eddie…”
“No, no, just…just shush for a second.” Eddie moved his hand to your cheek, his thumb sweeping across it gently. “You think all this shit about yourself and it’s just not fucking true. I wish, for a second, you could see yourself how I see you. I fucking adore you.”
You feel the warmth of his breath on your nose. His large hand on your cheek warms you, and you lean into the touch, closing your eyes.
Everything is Eddie in this moment. He’s invading every sense you had.
It’s overwhelming.
You can feel your eyes brim with tears. “You don’t have to say that, Eds. I’m okay. I’m just…I’m lonely, that’s all.”
Eddie’s breath caught in his throat. He watched you, he saw the tears hidden beneath your lashes. How could you not see it? See how you were…everything to him?
His mind stopped for a moment, deciding whether or not to take the leap, to risk it all and not run for once.
Fuck it.
“I’m right here, Princess. I’ve been right here.” He leans his forehead on yours.
You exhale his name, “Eddie,”
“What,” he’s quick to ask. “What is it, Sweetheart?”
Your on fire with how close he is to you. But he doesn’t mean it, not in the way you hoped he would…does he?
Your eyes open, seeing his beautiful brown ones searching your face for some kind of clue as to what you’re feeling. You clasp your hand on top of his. “Please,” you beg. “Please don’t say things you don’t mean just to make me feel better. My heart can’t take it.”
He laughs softly, bringing his other hand up. He’s cradling your face gently, “Oh, Honey. You have no idea just how much I mean it.”
Eddie is overwhelmed with you. You’re everywhere, and he can’t fucking think straight. Probably a good thing right about now, because he’s about to do something he never thought he’d be lucky enough to do.
“Can,” he clears his throat. “Can I kiss you, Baby?”
With zero hesitation, you nod, earning a chuckle from Eddie.
“Gotta use your words, sweet thing.”
“Yes,” it comes out as a plea. “Kiss me...please.”
Warm warm warm.
It’s all you feel when he leans in. Then his soft lips are on yours, all the while he’s holding you as if you’d be the one to float away.
Eddie kisses you like he’s done it a thousand times. Like he knows your lips and the pattern that drives them crazy. He’s trying to tell you everything he’s been too afraid to say since the moment he met you.
There’s no one but you.
You’re everything.
I love you, please, let me love you.
Regrettably, you pull away. Breathless from the kiss, but also how surreal this moment is.
“I-I,” you sigh, touching your forehead to his. “I’ve wanted to do that for forever.” It comes out as whisper. As if you’d scare him away if you said it too loud.
Eddie smiles, a relieved laugh passing his lips. “Yeah?”
You nod, “Yeah.”
It’s quiet for a beat, Eddie is looking at you so softly and with such care.
“You’re so beautiful.” He says with all of the conviction in the world. “My pretty girl.”
“Am I?” You ask. “Am I yours?”
He nods, "If you want to be." He moves his hands, resting one on each thigh. He rubs them absentmindedly, likes he's trying to flatten the goosebumps that had prickled across your skin. “...and I’m yours. You've got me, Honey.”
Eddie's grin was still a shy one. You brush your hand across his face, pushing back any stray hairs. "Eds?"
He grips your wrist gently, placing small, tender kisses along the inside of it. The gesture is so simple, but it sends a heat through you like you've never experienced before.
"What is it, pretty girl? Whatever you want, whatever you need...it's yours."
You intertwine your fingers with his smoothly, "You, Eddie. Need you. Wanna make you feel good, Eds."
Now it was his turn to get goosebumps.
"Fuck, Angel. You can't just say that to me." He breathes.
Your bedroom eyes blink twice, "Please?"
A strangled moan vibrates from his chest, "Who am I to deny the fair maiden what she asks for?" Eddie stands, holding out a hand for you.
You're pulled to your feet by him, and he's looking at you through a brand new set of eyes. "One problem with that though, Princess. You come first."
You gasp as his hands take purchase of your ass, pulling you into him. "If anything, and I mean anything is too much, or too weird, you tell me, okay?"
You're nodding again, and he tuts at you. "Uh-uh. Words, baby."
Your arms fall around his neck and you press your body against his. "Yes, sir."
"Ho-ly-shit." He moans. "Yeah, I'm gonna kiss you now. Cool? Cool."
He's hungrier this time, kissing with teeth and tongue as his roaming hands explore your body.
"Eddie, Eddie..." You breath through swollen lips. "Too many clothes."
"You a mind reader or something?" He jokes, ripping the t-shirt from his body. His body was a work of art in more ways than one, and seeing it now, like this, made you crave it all the more.
You watch as Eddie falls to his knees, "Can I?" He asks, pulling at your skirt.
"God, yes."
He unbuttons the fastener, pulling the distressed denim down until it's pooling at your ankles. Eddie then came face to face with your black-lace covered heat.
"I-I'm dead right? I've died and now I'm at the pearly gates."
Your hands cover your face, "Eddie! Stop!"
He stands quickly, "No, baby, no. God, please don't hide from me." He pulls your hands away gently.
Your shirt is next to go, and so is the matching bra. Eddie pulls his pants down, leaving his boxers on.
"Lay down for me, Princess. Wanna take care of you.”
The timber of his voice makes you tremble. Once your comfortable on the bed, Eddie climbs on too.
“Now, I know this is all new, and we’re figuring things out as we go, but…” Eddie pauses, laying on his stomach between your legs.
He starts kissing his way up your legs. “I’ve been dreaming of eating this pussy for a long, kiss, long, kiss, long time.”
You’re so turned on you can barely speak, but you manage to get out a quiet. “Well what are you waiting for?”
Your thong is thrown into parts unknown, and Eddie starts to feast like a man starved.
“Eddie, fuck—“ his tongue explores your heat. His hands hold onto your hips as you grind down onto his mouth.
“Uh-uh, don’t hold back. Wanna hear you, Princess.” He dives back in, lips sucking on your clit, pushing you closer and closer to the edge. He slips in one, the two fingers. Pumping and curling them slowly until he finds the spot that makes you see stars.
The fire in your belly is growing and you feel your legs start to shake. “Holy fuck, Eds—Eds I’m gonna cum!” Your hands take purchase in his hair, giving it a sharp tug as you feel the heat engulf you.
Eddie eats your pussy, drinking you in as you cum.
“Shit, I’m sorry!” You release your grip on his hair as you come down from your high.
Eddie crawls up your body, kissing you. You taste yourself all over his tongue. “Don’t be sorry, Baby. Let’s me know you’re enjoying yourself,” he kisses you once more. “Plus, I kinda like it.”
You’re both breathing heavy.
Now it’s his turn.
Your hands touch his shoulder, pushing him gently. “What’re you doing, pretty girl?” He asks softly.
When Eddie’s leaned back against the headboard, you pull his boxers off. Pink, uncut cock springing from it's confines.
God damn...he's fucking huge.
"Gonna ride you, Eds. Let you feel what you did to me." You climbed on top of him, "Can I do that? Can I make you feel good?"
Eddie's nodding, not sure what part of you he wants to look at more.
"Uh-uh," you tease. "Use your words, Handsome."
"Fuck," He breathes. He palms your bare chest, moving the pads of his thumbs over your nipples. "Do whatever you want to me, use me, I'm yours." He leans forward, hot mouth latching to your other breast.
You sit up, allowing Eddie's hard length to slip inside your aching cunt. The sheer stretch and size is enough to snatch the breath from your lungs.
"Eds...Eds, shit. S'big." You moan.
His eyes close as he bottoms out inside of you, "So tight. Fuckin' pussy was made for me, she wants my cock. Won't let it go. She greedy, baby?"
You adjust to his size filling the void inside you. Eddie hold your hips as you begin to ride him, helping you to keep a steady rhythm.
"Look at you, Princess. Cock-drunk already, hm?" He teases.
Eddie is whispering praises as he fucks up into you.
Such a good girl.
Taking me so well.
My pretty girl.
Mine.
Eddie's pace quickens, and you feel the tremble return to your legs.
"Eddie, fuck, I--"
"I know, Honey. I can feel it, feel you squeezin' me. Let go, Angel. Go on, cum for me."
His words are like a spell.
You cum harder than you did on his mouth, and this time, it's his cock that's drenched in your essence.
"Gonna cum, Sweetheart. Where--"
You're entirely lost in everything Eddie. "Inside me, Eds. Fuck, please cum inside me."
"Shit, shit, shit." Eddie's moves become erratic. Sloppy thrusts chasing his release, and when he does, he all but growls in your ear.
He's breathless and spent, but his arms wrap around you. Eddie holds you, softening inside you. He kisses the center of your chest, the trail making its way across your shoulder, up your jaw, and to your lips.
"Hi." He says quietly.
You giggle softly, "Hi."
"So uh, not sure if this is a good time or not..."
You kiss his nose, "Hmm?"
"I-I...I love you. I don't know, just felt like someone should tell you, might as well be me." Eddie's big brown eyes search your face for any sign of regret or discomfort.
Nothing.
You kiss him deeply, "I'm glad you told me, otherwise I'd be sitting over here, in love with you, looking all silly by myself."
Eddie holds you tighter. "You, you love me?"
You giggle, "Edward Munson. I love you."
He pulls you closer, "You love me." It's a statement now.
Eddie lays his head against your bare chest. "I'm gonna get you cleaned up in a second, Sweetheart. Just wanna hold you for a little."
Rubbing small circles on his back, you kissed the top of his head. "I'm not going anywhere, Handsome."

Steve Harrington x Fem!reader
Summary: You're on a 'date'. Sort of. You're really not feeling it, especially when you realize that the guy has been lying. Steve, witnessing it all during his shift at Family Video, is more than happy to meddle a little.
CW/Disclaimer: Hmmmm things start to get a little heated and sexy but nothing too dramatic. So... idk. Mention of porn?
Author's note: I have a tendency to post fics out of their season, it seems
Words: 3435

Steve’s POV
He watched as your eyes followed the section of horror movies slowly, scanning each title to try and remember if you had seen them before. Next to you, a guy stood impatiently as he eyed the curtain that separated the adult section. Steve watched with interest, as it was all that was currently happening in the store apart from a regular who looked into the slapstick classics on the other side.
“Come on, I just wanna see.”
The guy sighed, nudged you with his arm. You were having none of it and Steve couldn’t help but wear an amused smile. Eventually, when you had picked out two movies, you followed him towards the curtain. Steve, feeling particularly menacing today, quickly left the counter and approached the curtain just in time.
“Hello there! ID’s please.”
He held his hand open and you took it out immediately, showing that you were 23, a year younger than he was. When the guy handed it over with some reluctance, his curiosity piqued.
“Oof, sorry dude, can’t let you in. It’s 21+”
“What? Since when?” the guy responded, but Steve clocked something much more interesting.
“Clark… You said you were 24. Jesus this is why I never wanna say my age first,” you groaned and rolled your eyes. Steve bit down on his lip to stop himself from smiling, but it was too hard not to.
“Damn, why’d you have to lie to the lady? That’s not cool,” Steve added on.
Your POV
“You weren’t supposed to know. Now come on,” Clark mumbled and attempted to pass the curtain but Steve quickly moved in between, the smooth glide of his body grabbing your attention.
“Still a no, Bud.”
You were already tired of his pushy behavior earlier, so while Steve had him occupied, you entered the adult section. You didn’t even want to go in there, but it was better than staying.
“Grab some deepthroating! And some lesbian porn?”
Steve’s POV
Steve shook his head at him as he leaned against the wall right next to the curtain.
“Jesus, dude. Are you trying to make her run away from you even harder?”
“Shut up,” Clark grumbled, side eyeing him with annoyance.
“Hm, no,” Steve said, a small smile on his face. “Not for a pipsqueak like you.”
“Oh fuck off, says the failed jock whose daddy no longer funds him so he has to do a shitty job like this one, the highlight of his day being to be a total asshole to a guy trying to have sex with a girl.”
Steve stared ahead of him, taking a deep inhale before replying.
“Yeah. Sure. That’s a neat description of you and me both. Emphasis on the trying.”
“The day’s not over yet.”
“Oh but it is, pipsqueak. Cause you’re gonna turn around and leave now.”
They looked at each other, eyes dark and challenging. Steve wasn’t sure what came over him. He just knew that he needed to do you the favor of getting rid of him.
“The hell I am,” Clark bristled.
Steve chuckled darkly. Woah, when did he become this super villain huh? Hmm. Interesting.
“Oh you are. She wants you gone and so do I.”
“You don’t know shit about what she wants.”
“Let me go ask,” Steve said as his hand lazily slid the curtain aside. “What’s her name again?” he asked, pretending like he hadn’t checked your name on your ID. He didn’t wait for his answer and walked behind the curtain despite his protests. This, however, made him miss out on the emergency alert on the radio.
“We interrupt your favorite tunes for an important message. The blizzard is getting worse. If you haven’t yet, go home. Chances are you won’t be able to if you wait much longer.”
Clark, however, did. Besides, he wasn’t that much of an idiot. He knew he had lost his chances with you the moment he tried to get you to grab his favorite porn videos. Whatever.
Your POV
“So… see anything you like?”
His voice startled you, but at the same time it was met with relief from your end that it wasn’t Clark. Steve slowly walked closer and quickly noticed you didn’t seem interested in any of it in the slightest and chuckled.
“Or are you just planning to stay here forever until he leaves?”
You shrugged.
“Something like that. Also, you don’t just ask a lady about her favorite porn, Harrington.”
Delighted by your response, he cocked his hip against the wall as he crossed his arms with a grin.
“I mean… we both already know Clark’s…” Steve said jokingly, earning a smile from you.
“All men are the same,” you sighed. Steve pouted and scanned the titles for something interesting.
“You say that now but… wait until you find out that my favorite is actually… Granny getting a— nope, nope, forget I started that sentence,” Steve said quickly as he put back the tape he just had in his hands.
“All the grannies over the world are crying right now,” you said sadly, a smile on your lips.
“Too bad, I’ve set my eye on girls who actually are the age they say they are.”
“I’ll admit that’s the most interesting belated opening line I’ve ever heard,” you said dryly.
“As long as it catches your intrigue, I’m satisfied,” Steve said with a playful, cocky grin.
You grabbed a tape and smirked, holding it out for him.
“So I’m guessing you don’t need yourself a… Satisfyer 2.0, then?” You asked, holding up the tape which had sensual “instructions” for a vibrator.
Steve laughed and shook his head.
“These satisfy just fine,” Steve said, holding up his hands. Your mind drifted off to what he could do with those big hands. Not just to himself but to—
“… left?”
Steve had apparently just asked you a question.
“Huh?”
He smirked and nodded towards the curtain.
“I think he left. Just heard the bell above the door.”
“Maybe someone came in though…” you wondered out loud.
“Maybe. I’ll go check.” He spun on his heel and approached the curtain when—
“Wait—” It was out before you knew it. Steve halted, turned back around and looked at you patiently.
“Yeah?”
“If he is in fact not gone, can you… get rid of him somehow? I normally wouldn’t ask but he’s just such a—”
“Dick.”
“Yeah…” You smiled a small smile and watched as he approached you again. His eyes were on you, taking in even the smallest changes in your expression.
“So is he like… your boyfriend?” Steve asked softly. “Or uh, was?”
You chuckled and shook your head.
“Nah, this was the second date which I had reluctantly agreed to.”
“Why’d you say yes?” Steve asked curiously. He followed your movement as you skimmed some more tapes and smiled at the playfully quipped corner of your mouth. “I mean, it didn’t look like you wanted to be here.”
“I didn’t. I just… I kind of never said yes but he just showed up on my doorstep and then I felt too bad to not go with him, so… yeah. Didn’t know he had plans to rent some porn and spend the second date in his bedroom or whatever.”
Steve crossed his arms and nodded thoughtfully.
“Hmmh… yeah that sucks. Well, I’ll make sure there won’t be a next time,” he said as he shortly winked at you and once again turned on his heel, this time actually continuing his walk through the curtain. He was out there for a few minutes when he turned back with a frown.
“Uh… Y/N? We’ve got a little… hiccup.”
You approached him with a frown of your own and followed him to the front, unsure what to expect. What you certainly didn’t expect, was to see a snow storm going on outside.
“Apparently there’s a code red. Just heard a repeat of it on the radio but it keeps breaking up. They urge everyone to stay inside until it’s over.”
Steve stuffed his hands into his pockets and stared ahead. It was the worst storm he had ever witnessed and the fact that nothing had seemed to be going on apart from some gentle snowfall surprised him.
“Stay… here?” you asked eventually.
“I mean, yeah? You can’t drive in this weather, it’s too dangerous. So is walking. So…”
“But I can’t just…”
“Hey, I don’t bite,” Steve said softly, nudging your arm with his own. “Besides, Clark seems to have left after all. Maybe he heard the warning and decided to bolt? If so, very nice to let us know as well but I will say that I wasn’t nice to him, so…”
You smirked.
“What did you say to him?”
“Nothing, nothing. I mean, genuinely, I didn’t say much. Just that he had to fuck off, using different wording. He didn’t seem all that ready to leave when I went to look for you though.”
“Oh well, good riddance.”
“Agreed.”
Steve walked forward and locked the door, putting the closed sign up front just in case.
“Let’s go to the back, it’s warmer there. And there’s a coffee machine.”
And so your “Stuck at Family Video with heartthrob Steve Harrington” began.
Once you were settled around the table in the break room, Steve gave you an odd glance. It was hard to figure out what he meant by it, although his frown disappeared the moment he got up from his chair.
“Coffee? Tea? I think we even got a few of those instant hot choc packages,” he offered, his back already turned to you as he searched the cabinets.
“Oh, hot chocolate sounds nice actually. Is it just me or is it… still kinda cold, even here?” you asked hesitantly. Steve nodded ruefully and grabbed two mugs from the cabinet he was currently facing.
“Ah, yeah… it looks like the heating is struggling again. I could kick it to see if it helps but… chances are it’ll get worse.”
“How could it get worse?”
Steve shrugged.
“Beats me, but I’m speaking from experience. Sometimes it does the trick and other times it really, really doesn’t.”
“Let’s not risk it then. At least we have a warm drink, right?”
Steve nodded and grabbed the kettle. You watched him busy himself with putting it on, emptying the hot chocolate powder and grabbing two spoons. He was humming along softly to whichever song he seemed to have stuck in his head and shot you a smile when he caught you looking.
“So what do you usually—”
Suddenly, the room turned pitch dark. You heard Steve swear softly when he shuffled back towards the table and bumped into a chair.
“Uh… okay. That’s… kind of a problem,” he mumbled as he managed to sit back down. “No hot choc I guess, sorry. No… heating either. Maybe we should check how the weather’s doing?” he opted.
“Yeah, sure.”
There was a small strip of light seeping in from the doorway, slowly turning brighter as you adjusted to your surroundings again. Warm fingers teased your arm before your wrist was grabbed and Steve helped you up. As he opened the door, the brightness of the snow outside was almost blinding. The thin windows made it a lot colder at the front, making you shiver as you watched the outside. It wasn’t just snow anymore, as heavy hail rained down, large enough to leave dents into cars. Steve groaned and let go of your wrist.
“Let me check if I can get the power back on,” he mumbled, more to himself than to you. He grabbed a flashlight from below the counter and went to the back again. After a few minutes, he returned, looking apologetic.
“Sorry, nothing. I guess it’s my fault you’re stuck here, huh?” he sighed. “If I hadn’t bothered Clark as much you’d be on your way already. Or if I just… I don’t know. Sorry, I guess.”
“It’s not your fault the weather decided to fuck us over, Steve,” you said with a soft smile which he returned with some hesitance. “What do you usually do for fun around here?”
Steve gave you a wry smile.
“Watch movies?”
“Ah, yeah.”
There was a short silence until Steve clapped in his hands and rubbed them together. “I’ve got this huge blanket in the back, brought it here once because Rob, Robin, my colleague, gets very cold easily so sometimes we’d just huddle under the blanket during breaks and stuff. I think we might as well sit out here, at least it’s light… for now.”
You nodded, smiling as you thought of Robin Buckley. You knew her of course. Not super well, but well enough to know she was nice.
“Yeah, it’s already getting dark, huh? A blanket sounds good though.”
Steve nodded and once again disappeared for a short moment, until he returned with a bright blue blanket, which he partially draped on the floor in front of the counter before he motioned for you to sit down and wrapped it around your shoulders. He joined you after grabbing you both some water and put the other end around his shoulders once he settled down.
“How’s this?”
You were really trying not to let it get to you that you were cozying up to Steve right now. Heat was radiating off of him and it made you wonder if he was actually cold, or if he was basically doing the whole “it’s better to stick together for body warmth” kind of thing. With the addition of clothes, of course.
“It’s nice. Better than without for sure,” you told him softly. Steve’s shoulder brushed yours and soon enough you felt the pressure build up until he was actually resting against you. Not in an uncomfortable way at all. It was really… nice, actually.
“Your parents? Do you think they’ll worry?”
“Ah, no. My mom’s visiting my grandma in another state actually and my dad’s no longer around, so. Doubt he can worry,” you joked lightly. “What about yours?”
Steve snorted, then realized it probably wasn’t all that funny and shrugged.
“Dunno, they’re somewhere in Europe now, I think? So no.”
Another silence. It was by that point that you remembered how little you actually knew about Steve Harrington. Sure, he had been popular in school for some time, and then he wasn’t, and then he graduated. But you had never really talked to him other than giving him a pen or two in English class. You were from different social ladders, really. Although, right now you felt quite equal to him, somehow. Which felt weird, considering he looked like a freshly cut out of a painting model and you were… you. Mr handsome decided to steal you away from your brain, which honestly, was a good thing.
“Hey, wanna play a game?” he asked, peering into your eyes as he leaned forward a little. You watched him with newfound curiosity.
“What kind of game?”
“I spy with my little eye.”
“Isn’t that just called “I spy”?” you wondered aloud.
“Dunno. So. Yes?”
“What else is there, right?”
Steve grinned and rested his head against the counter.
“That’s right. Okay. I spy with my little eye… something green.”
“That tape,” you said as you pointed. Steve leaned into your space, following your hand.
“Which one?”
“The green one.”
“There are maaaany green ones.”
“The green one with… Fuck I can’t read,” you sighed as you tried to squint. Steve laughed warmly, which you could feel the tremble of against your shoulder. “Okay so. The sci-fi shelf, yes? Fifth on the second row.”
“Aaaah, I see it now. Nope!”
“You knew that wasn’t it from the start.”
“I had to make sure.”
“Mhm, sure.”
Steve grinned and nudged you with his shoulder before tapping your thigh with his hand.
“Your turn, your turn!”
He left his hand on your thigh. Oh shit. Yeah, you were totally normal about that. You could still think. You could definitely still find some kind of object that you could use—
“Wait, I didn’t even guess it, how is it my turn?!” you questioned. Steve, who had been looking at… somewhere that wasn’t your eyes, quickly lifted his eyes to meet yours and grinned.
“Right. Guess!” “Your vest?”
“You are absolutely right. See? Your turn.”
“It wasn’t— okay. Hm… I spy with my little eye… something red.”
“Your cheeks.”
“Shut up, my cheeks aren’t red.”
“They are a little.”
“If you keep talking about it, yes, they will turn red.”
“Oh? Is that so?”
Once again Steve leaned forward to look you straight in the eye, this time lifting a hand to cup your cheek gently. “Hm, they’re a little pink at the very least.”
You could feel the heat rising to your cheeks and took his hand off your cheek as you looked away. Steve chuckled softly and turned his hand around so he could grab yours.
“Fine, then… the bike outside?”
“Nope.”
“Damn, I thought that was it for sure. That red blob of paint that Keith never managed to get off the ceiling?”
“That’s it!”
Steve grinned at you and gave your hand a squeeze. For a moment you had forgotten about his hand, too drunk on his animated face. Fuck.
“I spy with my little eye…” Steve turned his head to look at you and smiled. “Something pretty.”
“What?”
“Purple! Purple.”
“My shirt.”
“So clever.”
It was getting darker rapidly and soon enough, even your little game became harder to play. You did some other ones, word games, guessing games, whatever you could think of. The blanket was wrapped closer around you both now, as the store became colder without the heating. You sat hip to hip, your arms a little awkward sometimes although neither of you really minded.
“Would you have stayed here if I hadn’t been around?” you asked softly.
“Hmm, nah, I don’t think so.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t really care if— I mean, I’d only be risking myself in that case.”
“That’s a bad reason. You’re just as important.”
“Am I?” Steve asked, and for some reason you felt like he needed an honest answer.
“Yeah, you are, Steve.”
“Hm…” A beat of silence. “I spy with my little eye… someone pretty.”
“You can’t even see.”
“I’ve memorized her by now.”
“Is it the blonde babe cardboard cutout?”
Steve, not expecting that answer at all, burst out laughing.
“Fuck, no,” a giggle, “it wasn’t.”
“Oh… hm. What about that girl from the ring? Samara?”
“Shush.”
“Or the woman from that movie where—” “Ssshh.”
You felt his hand cup your cheek and it was as if your heart was gonna jump out of your chest at any moment now. His breath tickled your cheek, warm and comfortable against your cold nose. Your lips parted on their own, eyes closing even though there was only an outline of his face to see.
“You sure it’s not the blond babe?” you murmured teasingly.
Steve giggled softly and shook his head, causing the stray strands of his hair to tickle you a little.
“Positive.”
A faint sound of lips being licked, and then his lips brushed against yours. Soft and pliable, eager to taste yours. He hummed softly, pleased, as he pulled you closer. You were easily pulled into his lap as his tongue teased your bottom lip for access. Hands smoothed up and down your waist, the blanket forgotten as your kiss provided enough heat between the two of you. It was silent, save from the gasps and soft, pleasant hums leaving you both. He gently moved his hips while simultaneously guiding yours, a gentle moan leaving him as he found a rhythm. His lips found your neck and your hand made its way into his hair to have something to grasp onto. One hand found the hem of your shirt and he was about to lift it up when—
Brightness. Light. The electricity was back on. Meaning… everyone outside could see you. If there had been anyone, that is. Still, it broke the moment instantly as Steve dropped his hand to your thigh and looked up at you.
“Shit,” he murmured, a lopsided grin on his face. “They really know how to spoil the fun today, huh?”
You smiled down at him and turned around to look outside, one hand resting on his chest for balance.
“Hm… I don’t know. It seems safe to go back home.”
Steve dug his fingers into your hips with eagerness before leaving a soft kiss on your lips.
“Your place or mine?”
end.

.............................
“Aren’t you cold, honey?” Truthfully, she is, barefoot in the gravel of the highway shoulder, her heels tossed into the backseat a while ago, in nothing but the short dress she had gone out in. But Joel’s gaze is warming her up just fine.
“I’m ok, Joel. Thank you for coming to get me.” He sighs, stepping closer to inspect the flat on her back tire, letting out a low whistle as he kneels down to take a closer look.
“More than a flat tire. The whole rim is busted. Just how fast were you going?” She flushes hard under his pointed look. So maybe she had been speeding when she accidentally hit a curb. But mistakes happen, right?
“Um, I don’t know?” He huffs, getting up from his kneeling position with a groan and wiping his hands off on his jeans. He cocks his head at her, crossing his broad arms over his chest. She swallows hard at the flex of his biceps.
“You been drinking tonight, honey?” When all she offers him in response is an anxious smile, he clicks his tongue, shaking his head.
“I’m not drunk. I had a drink with some friends. It’s not like that’s a crime. I am of age, y’know.”
“Oh, believe me, I know.” Her brow furrows at his sighed out words. What’s that supposed to mean?
“Are you telling me you got all dressed up like that just for some friends, honey?” That question shocks her silent, and he chuckles at her slack expression, stepping closer until she can feel the heat radiating off him. He lets a single finger skate along the neckline of her dress before hooking it under one of the straps, tugging her in until she’s pressing her palms against his solid chest to stop herself from stumbling.
“Tell me this, honey. Why’d you call me, of all people, to come help you?” She can smell lingering whiskey on his breath. He’s been around her dad’s house enough times for her to know he likes a nightcap, a little hit of warmth to end the day. That mixed with the scent of him - cedar and sweat, and smoke from the cigarette habit he swears he’s trying to break - is sending her mind into a haze, and she’s finding it hard to answer his question.
“Because, um– because you– um–” He chuckles again, cutting off her mumbling with a wicked crook of a grin on his face.
“It’s alright, honey. You can just say it, huh? I know what you want.” Is this really happening?
“You– you do?” He nods, bringing his other hand to tilt her chin up, keeping her gaze on his.
“You think I haven’t noticed? Can practically feel you burning a hole through my back with the way you look at me, honey. What a sweet little thing like you wants with an old man like me is beyond me.” The finger he kept hooked in the strap of her dress is running the arc of it, back and forth, back and forth, the graze of his skin against hers making her shiver.
“You’re not that old.” That makes him laugh, his eyes crinkling up and his smile broadening at her.
“Don’t think I’m too old for you?” Albeit hesitantly, she shakes her head no.
“Think you can handle me, honey? Bet I ride a little different than them college boys of yours.” Her stomach twists at the implication of his words, and she thinks she’d melt on the spot if he wasn’t still firmly holding her chin in place.
“I can handle it.” She tries to sound as confident as possible, but her voice still ends up coming out a bit meek, almost a whine. Joel just grins, dipping his head down to nose along her cheek, his lips finding the shell of her ear. The low drawl of his words goes straight through her, pooling heat in her core.
“We’ll see about that, honey. Why don’t you be a dear and open that car door for me. We’re gonna take a little ride together.”

⋆ ˙⟡☾ Northern Wind ☽ ⟡˙⋆
“She said what?” Liv furrows her brows and abruptly stops rolling the set of cutlery in front of her. It was the day after the party at Ellie’s and the two of you were halfway through your 6 hour dinner service shift.
You woke up that morning to the sound of Cat throwing up in the bathroom while Ellie was still fast asleep on the other end of the couch. Carefully you untangled your legs from Ellie’s and made your way to check on Cat.
You knocked gently on the bathroom door, “you okay in there?”
Cat cracks the door open slightly, “uh, yeah.” She says quietly, “sorry about last night, thanks for helping Ellie.”
“Oh no worries, it happens.” You shrug.
There was an awkward tension hanging thickly in the air. This was your first time speaking to Cat alone.
Cat clears her throat as she takes a moment to gather her words.
“I don’t mean to be…” she began, her voice hushed so that Ellie wouldn’t wake up, “I mean, I don’t want to seem like an overbearing girlfriend but, I’m just hoping that you’ll respect me and my relationship while I’m gone.”
“I’m sorry?” You’re a bit confused, almost threatened but Cat was speaking in a non-aggressive tone, she seemed so mature.
“It’s just—“ Cat sighs opening the bathroom door a little bit more, palming her forehead. “I see the way you look at her and I— I don’t know— I don’t hate you or anything, like I get it, Ellie is great. I just felt like I needed to say something before I left.”
Your jaw hangs slightly ajar for a moment as you process what Cat is saying to you.
“Oh Cat— please don’t worry.” You begin to internally panic, how the fuck could she tell?
“I’m not into girls, you have nothing to worry about.” You blurt, Jesus Christ, why were you lying needlessly??? “Ellie is just a really good friend to me, I’m sorry if I came off as….. weird or whatever.” You bite the inside of your cheek.
Cat nods as her lips form a tight line resembling a smile, but not quite. You can’t tell if she believes you.
“It was really nice to meet you this summer.” She says quietly.
“You too, safe travels home.” You smile a bit anxiously before you turn to walk towards the front door of the cabin.
You glance at Ellie, still asleep on the couch as you walk through the living room.
“Yup. She fucking clocked me,” you shrug as you roll a set of cutlery.
“I thought you were over Ellie?” Liv raises a brow as she reaches for another set of cutlery.
You roll your eyes, “I am.”
Liv hums in response. You could tell she doesn’t believe you.
“I wonder if Ellie told Cat you’re going together to the formal.” Liv says, a tinge of annoyance in her voice.
“Me too,” you sigh.
“Are you gonna tell Abby?” Liv asks.
“Yeah of course,” you nod, rolling another set of cutlery, “she’ll prob be pissed but I think she’ll understand.”
“Yeah she’ll def understand.” Liv says sarcastically as she rolls her eyes, “I don’t know, I’m pretty team Abby right now. If I were Cat I’d be fuckin pissed.”
“What?” You furrow your brows, “Ellie and I are just friends!”
“Yeah but Ellie has a girlfriend and in my opinion her ass should be going without a date if Cat can’t make it.”
You knew Liv was right, but it’s not really like you can take it back now. You just got back onto good-ish terms with Ellie, you didn’t want to fuck it up again.
“Aren’t you worried about Gabe and Dennis seeing you and Ellie going together to the formal and thinking you’re—” she glances around to make sure no one is within earshot, “you know, gay?” Liv whispers.
You roll your eyes, “fuck them.”
Now that you were actually in a situationship of sorts with Abby, being perceived as gay didn’t really bother you as much as it did a couple weeks ago. Sure, you weren’t ready to tell the world but you’ve slowly begun coming to terms with your sexuality.
“Ellie and I are just going as friends anyways, and I’m going to make that very clear to everyone.”
Liv gives you an unamused look as she sighs.
“Are you gonna tell Ellie what you told Abby?” Liv asked curiously.
“What?”
“That you’re actually into girls.” Liv said bluntly.
You sigh, “Now isn’t the best time, honestly.”
“Why’s that?”
“I don’t know— it’ll make everything more confusing.”
“Why would it be confusing if you don’t like Ellie?” Liv says in a slightly harsh tone.
“I don’t like Ellie!” You spat, annoyed.
Liv paused for a moment, “are you gonna tell Ellie what Cat said?”
“You’re asking too many questions.” You scoff as you get up from the dining table, “I’m gonna put these away.”
You pick up the box of rolled cutlery and walk towards the hostess stand. Your eyes meet Abby’s who is behind the bar as you walk past the lounge. She nods, signalling for you to come over.
You put the rolled cutlery away and back track, walking towards the bar. Abby has a bar towel laid over her shoulder, she rests the palm of her hands on the bar as she watches you walk towards her. Anxiety bubbled in your stomach after the conversation you’d just had with Liv. You knew you had to tell her about Ellie asking you to the formal, you just had no idea when.
“Hey pretty girl.” She says quietly, a small smirk on her lips as you lean onto the bar in front of her.
“Hi.” You smile softly.
“How’re you?”
“I’m fine.” You shrug.
“You get home okay last night?” Abby asks, you can tell she’s trying to come off casually as she wipes the already clean counter with her bar towel.
You take a moment before replying, which causes her to direct her gaze from the counter to you.
“I uh— actually slept at Ellie’s.” You attempt to say nonchalantly, as if it didn’t matter at all. Which, it didn’t. She’s a good friend who also happens to have a really cool girlfriend.
“Oh?” Abby raises her brows slightly.
“Yeah, I uh— got too tired to go home so I crashed on the couch.”
Abby’s brows furrow slightly as she begins to slowly nod.
“Too tired to walk across the street?” she resumes wiping the counter. Her tone remained light.
You roll your eyes almost playfully, “c’mon Abs, don’t be jealous.”
“I’m not—” She looks up as she cracks a tiny, nervous smile.
You bite your lip, amused as you raise your brows.
“I’m not jealous.” Her confident demeanour returns as she places both hands on the counter leaning towards you again.
“You sure about that?” You tease in a hushed tone.
Abby smirks, “mhm,” you can feel the tension vibrating between you as her eyes remain fixed on yours.
Something about Abby’s confidence and the way she flirts is utterly irresistible to you. You want her. You can’t deny that.
Somewhere in the back of your mind you wondered what this type of energy would feel like coming from Ellie. Is this how Ellie makes Cat feel?
A pang hit your chest as you sweep that thought out of your mind. You shouldn’t be thinking about that.
“Ah-em.”
Both you and Abby almost jump.
“You two having a staring contest….. or?” Miranda, your manager interrupts.
You cringe as Abby picks up a glass and begins polishing it.
“Yeah— she keeps beating me” Abby chuckles awkwardly.
You crack a tight lipped smile at Miranda and b-line back to the hostess stand.
-
It’s been a week since the party at Ellie’s cabin. You’d spent a couple of nights at Abby’s, staying up late watching movies and playing board games. She hasn’t kissed you yet, though you could tell she has wanted to. You sensed her nerves and whenever you thought she might, she’d bail. You sure as hell weren’t going to make the first move so you waited.
Neither of you had suggested establishing anything serious. You knew you weren’t ready for that anyway and Abby was patient with you. Of course she made it known that she was interested by the way she spoke and acted towards you but she acknowledged your inexperience in sapphic dating and in general so she went along with your pace.
Abby was good at controlling her emotions and ignoring the jealous pang that would hit her chest every time you’d brought Ellie up while telling stories from past summers. Though you’d told her a dozen times that you were just friends now and in the past but her intuition told her otherwise.
It's Friday and you have the weekend off. With Abby and Liv both working late, you've designated tonight for indulging in your own company, perhaps wallowing a bit in your sorrows. Throughout the week, you've kept yourself occupied with work and focused on Abby, deliberately trying to keep Ellie at arm's length since Cat left. Ellie had texted you a couple of times asking if you were busy— and you technically were, with Abby and work. So it wasn’t like you were avoiding her on purpose…. sorta.
The inner turmoil you were experiencing was becoming a lot. Your conversation with Cat kept repeating in your head as you tried to recall every interaction with Ellie you’ve had this summer. Obsessing over the subtle nuances of your behaviour. You felt embarrassed but you weren’t exactly sure of what.
Did Ellie notice too? Was I coming off as some kind of creep? Did Ellie say something to Cat?
You groan as you pull your blanket over your head. Overthinking was a curse, you just want to shut your brain off.
In the dimness of your room lit by the soft flow from the string lights draped around the curtain rod above your window. You lay wrapped up under your covers, you've decided that City and Colour would host the melodic backdrop to your evening of bed rotting.
Drained and depleted, you can't help but question if your constant busyness has taken its toll. Why do you even feel like you need to be distracted? If you didn’t have actual feelings for Ellie you wouldn’t have to try this hard not the think about her. Fuckin liar.
You lie to Liv about not having feelings for Ellie, you don’t have to lie to yourself. Or maybe you do? Fake it ‘til you make it? That’s a thing, right?
You let out a deep sigh as you roll over to face the wall.
You’re frustrated for wanting someone who doesn’t want you. Especially since Abby is right there in front of you, being anything and everything you could possibly want in a girl. You don’t want to hurt her.
Not to mention, Ellie has a girlfriend. Shit, she doesn’t even know you’re into girls since you’ve basically drilled it into her head that you’re not.
-knock knock-
You roll your eyes at your mom interrupting your thoughts.
“I’m sleeping, mom.” You groan loud enough for her to hear you through the closed door.
You hear the door crack open.
“Lily? It’s Ellie.” Her familiar voice rasps quietly.
What the fuck?
You half sit up in bed and turn towards the door.
“Oh, sorry I—“ you began.
“No— Shit. Sorry, I shouldn’t have—“ Ellie began to close the door.
“No—you can come in.” you blurt.
Ellie pauses for a moment, unsure if you were being genuine or not.
“Come in.” You repeat yourself.
“Okay.” Ellie whispers, she sounds nervous. She steps in and closes the door behind her.
Your bedroom is dim but you can make out her silhouette as she stands awkwardly twiddling her fingers in front of your closed bedroom door.
There was a palpable tension between the two of you but you weren’t sure if it was her or if it was you facilitating the atmosphere.
“Your mom let me in, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have just barged up here.” Ellie said quietly.
“No it’s all good I was just— chillin.” You replied, attempting to be casual as if you weren’t moping over her listening to City and Colour, which continued softly playing in the background.
“I thought you were sleeping.” Ellie chuckled softly.
“Same thing,” you shrug as you pull yourself from under the covers, smoothing down the duvet so Ellie can have space to sit. You pat the other end of your bed, signalling her to sit down.
Ellie scratches the back of her neck as she walks towards your bed. Your eyes inadvertently fix on her torso as her white t-shirt lifts up, catching a glance at the boxers peeking out of her grey sweats.
You flick your eyes away, you could feel your face burn hot.
She takes a seat opposite to you while you adjust yourself to sit cross legged at the head of your bed.
You clear your throat, unsure of what to say.
“Are you doing okay?” Ellie finally asks, the room was dim but you swear you could see her deep green eyes.
“Yeah, why?” You quip, attempting to keep your tone light. Nothing was technically wrong after all. Right?
Ellie shrugs, her eyes leaving yours and fixing on her twiddling fingers, “I don’t know, just seems like you’ve been avoiding me all week.” She shrugs.
You bite your bottom lip, “sorry I’ve just been busy,” you come up with a half assed excuse.
The room goes silent, besides the music.
“Did I—” Ellie begins but she stops herself. Her eyes meet yours once again. “Did I weird you out by asking you to the formal?”
“What? No,” you shake your head as your brows furrow slightly.
“Like, if you wanted to go with someone else you can just tell me.” Ellie’s eyes return to her hands.
“No it’s not that.” You rub your forehead.
“So there is something wrong?”
“No I didn’t say that—”
“I mean you kinda implied something is wrong since you said ‘it’s not that’.” Ellie shrugged.
You sigh, pausing for a moment.
“Does Cat know you asked me to the formal?” You ask.
You watch Ellie bite her bottom lip as her eyes avert out the window as she takes a moment to think.
“Yeah.” She lied.
“And she’s okay with it?”
“Yeah.” Ellie shrugs, “she doesn’t care, she know’s you’re straight,” she pauses, thinking for a moment before she continues, “and she knows I don’t like you like that, not anymore at least.”
And that sealed the deal for you. Ellie Williams doesn’t like you like that, she sees you just as a friend. You blew your chance that night on the porch last summer. And all the times you told anyone who would listen that you weren’t into girls. She practically begged you to say it, and you couldn’t and now that ship has sailed. You didn’t know why any part of you held out a sliver of hope anyway. It’s not like you were actually doing anything to try to reverse the damage done, and it’s not like you could. She’s had a girlfriend this entire time.
It’s time to start acting like her friend and just accept that’s all you’re ever going to be.
“Right.” You nod in response.
Silence filled the room once again besides the music quietly playing from your speaker.
“City and Colour?” Ellie asks.
“Mhm” you hum quietly.
“Northern Wind is my favourite song on this album.”
You knew the song well since you’d spent countless hours over the last year listening to it with her on your mind.
“Why?” You decide to ask, attempting to make conversation.
“Reminds me of someone.” She shrugs.
You got a sinking feeling in your gut as you focus your sight out your bedroom window, you shouldn’t have asked. You didn’t press further, allowing silence to fall over the two of you once again.
Ellie examines your face, illuminated by the dimly lit string lights.
“Can we go back to how we used to be?” Ellie broke the silence once again, "how we were when we were younger?"
Your eyes meet hers. Her expression is soft and you could see some form of hurt in her eyes. You know she cares for your friendship.
You nodded, “sorry— I know we were just getting back to how things were last weekend and then I kinda fucked it up by avoiding you a bit.”
“It’s fine. Come here,” Ellie gently grabs onto your two hands, pulling you towards her and bringing you in for a hug.
You and Ellie spent the rest of the night talking and playing a couple rounds of Mario Kart, eventually falling asleep watching Interstellar. You in your bed while Ellie slept on the floor.
⋆ ˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
The morning sun filtering softly through your curtained window woke Ellie up the next morning. Her back ached from the hardwood flooring in your room. Quietly, she sat up to check if you were still asleep, which you were.
Ellie glanced at the clock on your dresser, 9am. She’d decided to go pick up breakfast for the two of you at Misty’s Diner.
Ellie greeted your parents good morning in the living room and asked if they’d wanted anything from the diner. After taking their orders she stepped out into the warm morning Sun and began making her way to Misty’s.
Upon entering Misty’s she’d immediately noticed the brawny blonde a few people in line in front of her.
“Fuck me.” Ellie whispered under her breath.
Eventually her order was taken, she felt Abby staring into the side of her face the entire time. Ellie felt like she had no choice but to acknowledge her presence. She sighed quietly as she walked towards Abby who was waiting to the side of the counter, where the take out orders are served.
“Hey.” Ellie nodded at Abby, who was leaned up against a counter. Ellie stood beside her, leaning against the same counter attempting to appear somewhat confident next to Abby’s large stature.
“Hey,” Abby forced a smile, “how’s it going?”
“Not too bad,” Ellie shrugged, “you?”
“Good.” Abby responded.
Ellie cringed at the awkward tension as she wracked her brain for something to say.
“What’d you got planned for today?” Abby tried to make friendly conversation, she knows that’s what you would want her to do. Besides, why couldn’t she be friendly with one of your friends?
“Oh um, I’m taking y/n into the city to look for something to wear to the formal.” Ellie shrugged casually.
Abby crossed her arms as she became a bit uncomfortable. “Oh. I didn’t know she was going to the formal.”
Ellie couldn’t help but smirk a tiny bit. “Yeah, we’re all going, you should come.”
“Yeah, I’ll think about it... Cat gonna be back in town to be your date?” Abby asked curiously.
“No,” Ellie scratched the back of her neck as she took a moment to think about what she was about to say. It’s not like Abby was your girlfriend but she could tell that Abby is definitely into you. Ellie knew the feeling too well, she could spot it in another person from a mile away.
“Y/n is actually my date.” She said casually, biting back a smug smirk that attempted to tug at the corner of her mouth.
She decided not to clarify that the two of you were going friends. The look on Abby’s face gave her a sick feeling of satisfaction.
Abby raised her brows in surprise, then furrowing in brief annoyance before she reeled her emotions back. “Oh, nice that’ll be a lot of fun.” Abby replied plainly.
She almost felt bad for the girl. She knew what it felt like to be in Abby’s position, falling for you. Ellie wondered if you’d made it clear to Abby that you were straight like you’d made it clear to her.
“Order 23!” A lady at the counter called out, pulling Ellie from her thoughts.
“That’s me. Tell y/n I say hi.” Abby said flatly before making her way to the counter.

You got out of bed and freshened up while Ellie was out grabbing breakfast. Once she got back the two of you ate with your parents in the dining room before hopping into Joel’s truck and starting the 3 hour drive into the city.
Ellie had asked you the night before what you were wearing to the formal so that she could try to match. You’d soon both realized that neither of you had appropriate outfits to wear to such an event.
“Any idea what colours you wanna wear?” You ask Ellie from the passenger seat as you scroll through her Spotify, looking for a song to play.
“I don’t know,” Ellie thought for a moment, her left hand resting on the top of the steering wheel while her right arm draped lazily over the centre console. “Why don’t you pick something out and then I’ll just find something that kinda matches?”
“Sure,” you shrug as you hit play on Tennessee Whiskey.
“This song reminds me of Joel.” Ellie chuckles as she turns the volume up.
You begin to chuckle too, “isn’t he from Texas?” You squint at her.
She shrugs as she glances over at you, “I dunno, Texas, Tennessee— same shit.” You both begin to laugh.
The two of you spend the three hour drive taking turns picking songs and loudly belting them out to each other.
-
Your shopping trip was successful and you found something you loved and felt comfortable in. Ellie opted to keep in simple with a clean black vest x suit combo that complimented your outfit nicely.
“Ready to head back?” Ellie asks as she shuts the driver side door of Joel’s truck.
"Yup," you reply, buckling your seatbelt.
Ellie pulls out of the parking lot and begins the drive back to Lakeview. The warm sun shining through the truck’s windows made you feel a bit sleepy.
Leaning against the passenger door, you position yourself to face Ellie slightly. Your eyes are drawn to her tattoo, visible as her arm rests on the center console. Your gaze traces up and down it.
“What?” Ellie asks curiously when she notices you staring. Your eyes meet hers only for a second before her gaze returns to the highway ahead.
“Did it hurt?” Your eyes fix on her tattoo once again.
Ellie glances down at her arm for a moment, “nah, not really. Which is good because it’s not finished, Cat has a bit more work to do on it.”
You hum in response as your eyes focus on the highway. A tattoo is so… permanent. Cat’s art permanently etched into Ellie’s arm. Every time she looks at it for the rest of her life she’ll probably think of Cat.
Lucky Cat.
“You ever gonna get a tattoo?” Ellie interrupts your thoughts.
“Mmmm yeah I think so.”
Ellie seems a bit surprised, “oh yeah? What would you get?”
You shrug, “I don’t know, what do you think I should get?”
Ellie thinks for a moment, “hmmm, you should get a lily of the valley.”
“Oh yeah, so I can think of you every time I look at it?” You roll your eyes.
“Exactly!” she teases.
You chuckle, “sure, if you get one too.”
Ellie pauses for a moment.
“I mean— I would.” She shrugs, a smirk on her face.
You chuckle, not taking her seriously, “shut up.” You nudge her arm with your elbow.
“Ouch! I’m serious!” She feigns pain.
You roll your eyes again, “alright I’m holding you to that then.”
You honestly wouldn’t mind having a matching tattoo with Ellie, you think it’s kind of sweet. Something for just the two of you.
“I can ask Cat to bring her tattoo machine next summer.” Ellie says casually.
The momentary sweetness dissipates, leaving behind a sour taste, you bite back the frown edging at the corner of your lips. Of course Ellie’s girlfriend would do the tattoos.
“Yeah we’ll see.” You force a smile.
You couldn’t tell if Ellie noticed your change in tone but you decided to redirect the conversation elsewhere for the rest of the drive back to Lakeview.
It was around 7pm when you and Ellie made it back to Lakeview.
“You wanna come in for dinner?” You ask as Ellie pulls into her driveway.
“Shit, sorry Lily. I’ve got dinner with Joel.” She scratches the back of her neck.
Am I being obvious? You worried to yourself.
“No worries,” you felt your cheeks go a bit hot as you reach into the backseat to grab your shopping bag, “see you around?”
“Of course.” Ellie extended her tattooed hand towards you, signalling for an embrace.
You lean over the centre console to hug her.
⋆ ˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
“Hey Kiddo.” Joel said from the kitchen as Ellie walked in through the front door.
“Hey.” She said as she set her shopping bag down, “what’re you making?” She peeks over into the kitchen.
“Steak.”
“Mmmm” Ellie took in the lingering aroma.
“I made you one, here whenever you want it.” Joel announced as he loaded up his plate. His tv dinner table was set up in front of his armchair, some sort of documentary about cowboys already playing on the tv.
Ellie hated that telling white lies has seemed to become a habit.
“Thanks Joel.” She says quietly as she begins to make her way towards her room, “I gotta FaceTime date with Cat, I’ll be out to eat in a little bit.”
Joel nods in her direction as she shuts her bedroom door.
“Hey babe,” Ellie smiles when Cat answered her FaceTime call.
“Where have you been? You were supposed to call an hour ago.” Cat doesn’t look pleased.
“I’m sorry, I got caught up with something.” Ellie sighs.
“With what?” Cat presses, annoyed.
“Helping Joel with something, babe. Just drop it please, I miss you.” Ellie deflected.
Cat sighs in response, "I miss you too baby."

Since Ellie was busy with dinner tonight you decided you’d go over to Abby’s. You thought it was time you should tell her about Ellie asking you to the formal.
You knock gently on the front door of Abby’s cabin and after a moment you her heavy footsteps approach. She looked surprised when she opened the door and saw you standing there, a warm smile on your face which quickly fell upon reading Abby’s energy.
“What’s up?” Abby asks flatly, standing in the doorway. Her body language was cold, usually she would step aside and let you in by now, asking how your day had been.
“What’s wrong?” You ask immediately.
“Why do you think something's wrong?” Abby shrugged.
“You’re acting weird.” Abby has never made you feel this way before.
“Just wasn’t expecting you," she shrugs again, "shouldn’t you be with your girlfriend?”
“What?” Your brows furrowed.
“You could’ve just told me about Ellie, you know.” Abby sneers.
“What’re you talking about?”
“She’s taking you to the formal? Thanks for the fuckin heads up by the way, I can’t believe I had to hear it from her.” Abby scowled, “did she break up with Cat for you?”
“Shit” you mutter under your breath, you’d never felt scared of losing Abby until now. “Let me explain, please.”
Abby crosses her arms and leans on the doorframe, waiting expectantly.
“When I stayed over at her house, she was drunk and asked me to go as friends and I was drunk and said yes. It’s stupid, I know. I wasn’t even supposed to go but I heard everyone is going and I just— I’m really sorry, I should’ve told you.” You blurted in a single breath.
Abby didn’t say anything for a moment.
“You had all week to tell me.” She looked disappointed more than angry.
“I know, I’m sorry. I’m stupid.” You sigh.
“You’re not—“ Abby sighs as she steps aside, “come in.”
You step inside and set you bag down on the ground as Abby walks into the living and takes a seat on the couch, resting her elbows on her knees as her finger tips interlock.
"I know I don't have a place to you know, be mad or whatever because you're not my—." Abby sighs, "we're not together or anything but it’s just confusing.” She sits back in the couch, averting her eyes away from you.
You felt terrible and understood where Abby was coming from. No shit it looks weird, going to the formal with Ellie. But you and Ellie are just friends. That’s all.
You sit next to Abby on the couch, examining her expression as she refuses to look at you.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper, “I can tell Ellie that I can’t be her date anymore—“
“No.” Abby cut you off, “it’s fine, I work late that night anyway.” She shakes her head.
You can tell she’s angry but she’s holding back.
“I’m sorry.” You say again.
The room goes silent, you can tell Abby is running through her thoughts in her mind.
Abby sighs, “I’m just being insecure. Overthinking. Threatened, maybe.” She lets out a strained chuckle.
You nudge closer to her on the couch, resting your head on her solid shoulder “you have nothing to be insecure about, okay?”
She forces a small smile. Her energy warming up a tad as she places her left hand on your thigh. “Your best friend is next best I guess,” she sighs, “if I can’t take you.”
You admired Abby's effort to find the silver lining in situations, even though you could sense her discomfort.
"Wanna hang after the formal? I can stay the night?" You’re trying to make it up to her.
Abby nods in agreement, "yeah, I think that'd be great."
-
It's the second last Saturday of summer and the morning of the formal. You had trouble falling asleep the night before, your mind keeping you up thinking about how today would pan out.
Just make it through the night and then you’ll be with Abby and it’ll be a breeze. You kept telling yourself.
Liv was right, Ellie should be going to the formal alone. You felt bad for Cat, it felt like you were doing the opposite of what she asked you to do.
We're just friends.
Besides, you felt prepared to commit to Abby. Every aspect of her appealed to you, and isn't that what happens when you're drawn to someone? You start to take things seriously? Right?
You rub your forehead as you walk downstairs for breakfast.
-
Everyone had arranged to gather at your cabin before the formal for photos and some covert pre-gaming while avoiding your parents' watchful eyes. You dedicated the entire afternoon to getting ready, ensuring you felt and looked your best for the occasion.
Liv was the first to arrive.
"Oh my god, you look amazing!" She beamed.
"Me? Look at you!" You grazed your eyes over Liv who was in a red floor length dress. Her hair was pinned behind her ear and she held a little black clutch purse.
"Oh stop," Liv began to blush.
The two of you made your way up to your room to wait for everyone else. You wanted to have a pre-brief before your other friends arrived.
"I heard you went to the city with Ellie." Liv smirked as she took a seat on your bed.
"And who told you that?" You rolled your eyes.
"Abby," she shrugged, "she got to work, fuming the other day 'cause she ran into Ellie at Misty's. She thought you guys were dating since you're going to the formal together." Liv raised her brows in an 'i told you so' manner.
"Yeah, well we've ironed that all out." You shrug as you apply a bit of powder to your nose in your vanity mirror, "I think I'm ready to get serious with her." You admit.
"What?" Liv chirps, excitedly. "Like you wanna be girlfriends?"
You roll your eyes, "I don't know, I'm not—" you think for a moment, "I'm not going to ask her to be my girlfriend but I think I'm just going to tell her I like her a lot or whatever."
You didn't really know what you were going to say to Abby later but you knew you wanted to say something. Abby was giving you space to set the pace so you felt the need to communicate your readiness for the next phase.
"That's cute," Liv smiled, "just make sure Ellie doesn't hear, she'll prob strangle Abby." She teases.
You scoff in response, "shut up, Ellie said herself that she doesn't like me anymore and for fucks sake Liv, she has a girlfriend!"
"I'm just kidding!" Liv smiles.
"Whatever," you scoff playfully.
"Girls!" Your mom calls from downstairs.
You and Liv greet Julia, Gabe and Dennis with warm hugs and exchanges of compliments. The trio are in their best attire, the boys in navy and grey suits and Julia is in a floor length blue dress, her arm hooked around Dennis'.
"Hey date," Liv smiles at Gabe. He's wearing a red bow tie to match Liv's dress. She hooks her arm onto his.
Your brows furrow slightly at Liv.
"It's so great that we're an even numbered friend group and we can all take each other as dates," Liv announces as she winks at you.
Liv is the fucking best. Of course she would get everyone to go as each other's dates to take the heat off of you and Ellie.
"Where's Ellie?" Gabe asks you.
"Umm, she should be here soon." You shrug.
-
"I gotta go babe," Ellie says to Cat on facetime as she straightens the collar of her suit jacket.
"You look real great babe, have fun. Don't do anything stupid, please." Cat attempts to keep her tone light.
Ellie rolls her eyes, "you know I won't."
Cat sighs, "sorry, I know. I love you, text me."
"I will, love you. Bye." Ellie hangs up the call before stepping out of her bedroom.
"Looking good kiddo," Joel says, putting his book on the arm of his chair in the living room as he stands, "now let me get a picture of you." Joel reaches into his back pocket for his phone.
Ellie scoffs, "c'mon, I don't—." She rolls her eyes, blushing a bit.
"What! I've never seen you looking so spiffy, kid." Joel chuckles as he holds his phone up, "can you at least smile!"
Ellie rolls her eyes again, standing a bit awkwardly, her hands tucked into her pant pockets as she smiles. Joel takes a couple seconds to hit the button to take the picture, Ellie can't help but chuckle.
*click*
"Alright. Have a good time, okay?" Joel nods at Ellie, "call me if you need to be picked up."
"Will do," Ellie nods as she grabs the small bouquet of flowers she'd picked that morning off of the console table near the door.
"What's that?" Joel asks curiously.
"Oh, um, they're for Lily. Uh— she's my friend-date." Ellie scratches the back of her neck.
Joel chuckles lowly, "I've taught you well." He teases.
Ellie snorts, "yeah yeah, see you later."
Ellie was undoubtably nervous and she didn’t really know why. Anxiety bubbled in her stomach as she counted the steps she took across the street and up your front walkway. She gripped the bouquet with her left hand as her right thumb anxiously tapped each finger as if she were counting them. As she made her way up the steps and onto your porch she could hear the music and chatter inside. Ellie took a deep breath before opening the door and stepping in.
Her eyes first landed on the back of you in the living room, you hadn't noticed her come in yet. For some reason Ellie's anxiety washed away the moment she laid eyes on you.
"Ellie's here!" Julia squealed, Ellie could tell she's already had a couple sneaky shots.
Everyone turned their attention to Ellie as she walked from the sunroom into the living room, you stood up from your seat as your eyes washed over her.
She was dressed in an all-black suit, but instead of the usual collared dress shirt, she opted for a black buttoned-up vest that left a hint of her chest exposed. Her hair was pulled back in her usual half up bun, her bangs framing her face perfectly.
Time seemed to slow down for a moment, leaving you breathless. You noticed the bouquet of flowers she held in her left hand before your eyes met hers.
"Jeez Ellie, you're making Dennis and I look like shit dates." Gabe pulls your mind back to reality as he nudges Ellie's shoulder with his.
Ellie cringed internally for a moment, suddenly she felt like she was doing too much. It was in Ellie’s nature to be sweet when it came to you. Even when she tried to maintain her tough and angry facade earlier in the summer at the first party of the season, you broke her walls down almost immediately. So when she came across the perfect wildflowers while on a walk that morning she couldn’t help herself, she knew you’d love them.
Ellie watched you walk towards her, her breath hitching in her throat.
"Hey El," you smile as you approach.
Ellie clears her throat, "hey," she holds the bouquet out to you.
The first flower you notice is the lily of the valley in the middle of the arrangement. You then notice the butterflies fluttering in your stomach, you force yourself to ignore them. She doesn’t like you anymore.
You take the flowers into your hands, "thanks Ellie, you really didn—”
"Nah, don't worry about it." Ellie blurts as she scratches the back of her neck, her cheeks dusted pink.
"They're really beautiful." You hook your free arm around her and give her a hug.
"You look great," Ellie says quietly as you both pull away from the hug.
"Thanks, you do too." You smile.
Your parents decided to go to Potenza's for dinner which gave you and your friends the space to hang out before the formal. The six of you opted to skip the formal's dinner and just show up for the dance portion around 9pm.
After placing the bouquet in a vase with sugared water you take a seat beside Ellie on the couch. The other two couples were fully engaged in a debate about which local diner made the better breakfast sandwich, Misty's or Grey's. You were definitely team Misty.
You poured you and Ellie a shot each and held her shot glass out to her.
"To a good night." You toasted between the two of you, holding your shot glass out in front of you.
Ellie clinked her glass on yours, "to a good night."
A couple shots later, you were feeling fuzzy and you could tell everyone else was too.
"My dad's going to be here in 10!" Julia yells over the music loudly playing from the sound bar under the TV. Her dad has a 7 seater van that would be your limo for the night.
You decide to run up to your room quickly to freshen up. As you blot your cheek you hear your door click open. You watch Ellie through your vanity mirror as she enters your room, quietly shutting the door behind her.
"You okay?" You ask as you turn around.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Ellie says in a hushed tone, "just needed a minute, I think." She sighs as she leans back against the door, her hands in her pockets and an almost smug smirk on her face. She’s drunk and you could tell.
You examine Ellie's expression, her eyes are glossy and she seems a bit more confident than usual but she's mostly composed.
"Yeah, it's a lot down there." You chuckle. Everyone was decently drunk, you couldn't help but feel a bit concerned that your friends might get a tad too rowdy at the formal.
There's a palpable tension in the air between you and Ellie. She's looking directly at you, as you are her, but she looks like she wants to say something.
"I uh—." She begins but stops herself, chuckling as she shakes her head before leaning it back against the closed door, her gaze locked in on you. You can tell she's overthinking what she wants to say.
"What?" You can't help but chuckle too.
"I..... don't know how to..." her sentence drifts off as she scratches the back of her neck, her gaze averting elsewhere, the drunken confidence having slipped away.
"How to what?"
Ellie shrugs, "dance?" Her brows furrow and she seems almost embarrassed.
You start to giggle, "and you think I do?" Her eyes meet yours again.
"Wait— you don't?" Ellie smiles, but her expression reads disbelief.
"Fuck no," you begin to laugh.
"Fuck," Ellie says under her breath, "what'do we do? Not dance at the formal?" She teases.
You scoff and roll your eyes playfully, "we can't not dance at the formal," you announce sarcastically.
You both begin to laugh.
"Should we..?" Ellie begins again but stops herself mid sentence.
"What?" You furrow your brows, a smirk tugging at your lips, "you wanna practice?"
Ellie shrugs, "I mean, you're the one who suggested it so yeah, sure, whatever you want." A devious smile across her face.
You roll your eyes, was Ellie flirting with you? You gaze into her eyes, trying to figure out if she was being serious or not.
"Here," She held up her hands, signalling for you to step closer, so you step towards her.
"I think I put my hand here," she places her right hand around your back as she holds her left up, waiting for you.
You cautiously place your left hand on her shoulder and your right hand into her left. Your eyes meet Ellie's, your faces mere inches from one another as the butterflies in your stomach begin to flutter once again. She smiles lightly as you both begin to sway side to side.
You can faintly hear Cherry playing from the living room through your door.
"Seems like you've done this before." You whisper.
Ellie chuckles quietly, "I guess I'm just a natural." Her eyes fixed on yours. You feel the urge to avert your gaze, but it's as if you're physically unable to do so. There's something about Ellie that captivates you, making everything else fade away—the music, the chatter from downstairs—all suddenly muted. Time seems to stretch as you sway together, enveloped in each other’s presence.
You watch Ellie's eyes as they quickly shift from yours to your lips and then back again. With each passing moment, the air between you grows heavier, filled with unspoken longing. You notice her breathing deepen as your right hand lets go of her left and it rest on her chest, her left hand wrapping around your waist.
Could she feel this too?
You feel her right thumb softly caress you at the small of your back.
What kind of friend does that? She has to feel this too.
You watch as she subtly licks her lip, finding yourself doing the same. You swear you could hear both of your hearts beating in sync as the magnetism began to pull you closer. Suddenly you were no longer swaying, instead still. Your eyes meet, and then instinctively drift to each other's lips, a wordless invitation hanging between you. Ellie leans closer, hungry to close the gap but she pauses, waiting for you to meet her half way.
Your lips part as a sharp breath escapes your mouth. You want this, so bad.
You inch closer, you feel Ellie's breath on your lips as she waits for you.
"MY DAD'S HERE." Julia pounds on your bedroom door. You break away from each other, both knowing that what was about to happen was wrong.
Ellie's brows furrow as she squeezes the bridge of her nose with her right thumb and index finger, "I'm sorry— that was dumb— " she stuttered.
"No— it's whatever, we're drunk." You try to play it off as you grab your bag off of your bed, "let's go." You walk out of your room ahead of Ellie, biting your lip in frustration with yourself. You want Abby. You yell in your head. Your mind flashes back to the night Ellie basically friend-zoned you in your bedroom and then to your conversation with Cat. You give your head a shake. Don’t be fucking stupid.
"Fuck." Ellie sighs under her breath, following closely behind you.
-
Ellie's mind raced as she sat next to you at the very back of Julia's dad's van. Her palms felt clammy as they rested on her knees, her eyes fixed on the passing scenery outside the window. Deep down, she knew that whatever was about to unfold in your bedroom was wrong, yet there was an undeniable feeling of rightness to it, a sense of inevitability that she couldn't shake.
But it couldn't be right. She has a girlfriend and you're straight. End of story.
"Hey, you okay?" You ask softly, pulling Ellie from her thoughts.
Her attention turns to you as she musters a tight lipped smile, "yeah," she nods her head as her eyes meet yours, "never been better." You could tell she was lying and you knew why.
Of course you wanted to kiss Ellie and in a perfect world you might have. But you're glad Julia interrupted, it wouldn't be right to do that to Cat and Abby.
You weren’t sure if you believed that Ellie didn’t like you anymore like she’d told you that night. Regardless, your friendship with her was more important than having her in that way. You won’t let an almost kiss happen again.
"I can tell you're lying, you know," you remark, nudging Ellie gently with your elbow. You open your bag and grab your flask, passing it to her. "Friends almost—" you pause, lowering your voice as you glance around at your chatting friends, "drunk friends almost kiss sometimes, it's whatever," you reassure her, trying to ease the tension in the air.
Ellie lets out a sigh, her fingers tightening around the flask as she takes a swig. The word "friends" stings a bit, echoing in her mind as she feels a mixture of emotions swirling within her. The burn of the vodka down her throat emulates the unease in her chest as her gaze returns out the window.
For the first time Ellie questions if she can truly be your friend. Despite the ten months of simmering discontent prior to this summer, she always knew that she could come back to you.
But you’re a distraction that has her telling little white lies to her girlfriend. Sure, it’s Ellie’s decision to lie but she wouldn’t feel the need to lie if being around you didn’t feel so wrong. And it felt wrong because frankly, Ellie is in love with you and she knows it.
Thus, she wonders if being around you is too difficult for her heart. Can she handle hiding her feelings forever? Can she go on feeling like she’s deceiving her partner knowing her whole heart can never truly be theirs. Can she handle being strung along by you, her straight best friend, that seems to play into her fragile emotions. Keeping the naive lesbian wrapped around your finger.
It almost pisses her off. Of course a straight girl would say that ‘drunk friends almost kiss sometimes.’ That’s all it would be to you, just a drunken kiss. It’s easy for you to brush it off, there’s no feelings involved—
"C'mon El, let's just have fun tonight." You snap Ellie from her preoccupied mind as you place your hand on her thigh, "pleaseeeee."
You could tell what happened was weighing heavily on her thoughts. If you were being honest, it lingered on your own as well. But you were determined to not let another conflict between you and Ellie ruin the night.
Ellie's eyes flicked to your hand on her thigh before they met yours. It was difficult for her to hide her emotions and she knew that about herself. But she decided to tough it out, for your sake.
"Alright Lils, your turn." Her eyebrows raised as she smirked smugly, handing you the flask.
-
You'd never been to the Lakeview Country Club before so you weren't sure what to expect. As Julia's dad pulled up in front of the venue your eyes were met with people dressed to the nines, socializing on the garden patio to the left of the entrance. You could hear the music booming from inside.
"Whose ready to dance their asses off??!!" Liv squealed as she stepped out of the van first, "I know Ellie is!!!" she teased.
"Ha— ha." Ellie rolled her eyes as she stepped out ahead of you. She stopped and offered her hand to you which you took, allowing her to lead you out of the car.
The six of you enter the Country Club and head straight to the dance floor. Your friends were decently drunk but no one had over done it. You could tell Ellie was loosening up a bit as she began to get into the music, going along with whatever silly dance you came up with.
You didn't know how long you'd been dancing for but you were having the time of your life. The air around the dance floor was thick from the heat of all of the moving bodies, you take a moment to catch your breath. Ellie seemed to have sensed your discomfort.
"You good?" She placed her hand on the small of your back.
You nod in response, fanning your face with your hand, "it's hot." Ellie's freckled cheeks were rosy from the warm air and you observe a flicker of concern crossing her face.
"Let's get some air." She grabs your hand and leads you away from the crowded dance floor, out onto a spacious balcony on the side of the hall. Tall standing tables, adorned with empty champagne glasses, scatter across the balcony, the night seemed to be winding down for other attendees.
Both you and Ellie's gazes instinctively drift upward as you step outside, it was just you and her. The sky was clear tonight, you swear you could see every single star shining above you.
You can still hear the music from inside, though it's shifted to slower, mellower songs as the DJ begins to wind down the night.
You finally notice the silence between you and Ellie as you both stand at the balcony's railing, staring into the sky.
"You have fun tonight?" Ellie asks quietly, both of her hands resting on the balcony railing.
You nod, eyes still fixed in the sky, "yeah, yeah I did,” you reach into your bag, taking a swig from your flask.
Ellie's gaze moves from the sky, to you as you hand her the flask. "Thanks for being my date," she takes a swig, finishing off the last bit of vodka. She tucks the empty flask into her jacket pocket so you wouldn’t have to carry it around the rest of the night.
Your eyes meet hers as you shrug, "the least I can do if Cat couldn't make it." It stings to bring up Cat, and you know why. But you have to let the sting simmer if you're ever going to get over Ellie.
Ellie chuckles lightly but internally she's cringing at the sound of her girlfriend’s name, she knows she shouldn't have this reaction. Her eyes return to the sky.
There's so much she wants to say and maybe she could if she knew that you would reciprocate. But she knew you couldn't, you're not like her. Her thoughts return to what she was thinking about in the van. She knew she had to let you go.
"Last song of the night folks!" You hear the DJ say through the mic from inside. Sparks begins playing softly, snapping Ellie away from her thoughts; shoving them to the back of her mind.
Her gaze returns to you as she holds out her hand, "may I have this dance?" she says in a playfully low voice.
You examine her expression, something’s wrong and you can tell but for some reason you feel like you shouldn’t ask.
"Why, certainly." You force a smile as you wrap your arms around her shoulders.
The two of you begin to sway slowly to the music. A feeling of heaviness weighs on your heart as neither you or Ellie say a word.
The idea of never speaking to you again crosses Ellie's mind. You feel her grip tighten slightly around you.
You had things you wanted to say too, but knew you couldn’t if you had plans of getting serious with Abby. A feeling of anxiety bubbled in your stomach knowing you were staying the night at Abby’s and here you were, slow dancing with your best friend.
You pull Ellie closer, resting your chin on her shoulder.
One week left of summer. One week left with her until she’s gone for another ten months.
“I’m gonna miss you, you know?” You whisper softly.
Ellie takes a moment, processing your words as she bites the inside of her cheek. “I’m gonna miss you too.”
The two of you continue to sway, “are we still gonna get matching tattoos next summer?” You attempt to keep the conversation light.
Ellie chuckles as she looks into the sky. Her previous thoughts of never seeing you again nagging at the back of her mind. She spots the giraffe constellation.
“Yeah.” She lied, for your sake.
You smile at the idea of the two of you having a matching tattoo. At least you’d have her as your best friend, forever bonded through ink. That was better than not at all.
A strange feeling in your chest told you that this was a goodbye. Something more than a see you next summer. This felt like a final dance before parting ways forever.
But that couldn't be true. It was merely a goodbye for the winter. Ellie assured you that you’d see her next summer, right? So you pushed those thoughts aside.
As the song comes to a close, your bodies part ways. You finally get a glance at her face but you can’t read her expression. She forces a tight lipped smile, “let’s find our friends,” she shoves her hands into the pockets of her dress pants and you follow her inside.
The two of you spot your friends on the other side of the dance floor chatting around a standing table.
“You missed all the slow songs guys, where’d you go?” Julia asks curiously.
“Just outside, needed some air.” Ellie shrugs, “it’s all good we could hear from out there.”
You watch a smirk grow on Gabe’s face, “you guys get a slow dance in?”
“No.” You shut him down as you roll your eyes.
Ellie's gaze shifts to you, a pang hitting her chest. She realizes she would've said the same thing if she had responded, but for some reason, your words sting. Her chest feels hollow, a sense of emptiness settling within her.
“Shut up Gabe,” Liv rolls her eyes too, “we’re going to an after party at that Colin’s, you know the guy who works at the paddle board rental place. You guys down?”
Ellie shrugs her shoulders, “sure,” her gaze falls to you as she waits for your response.
“Oh, um. My ride should be pulling up soon— so I can’t—“ you begin to pull out your phone to check if Abby has texted.
“What?,” Julia questions, “your ride?”
You watch Ellie purse her lips in your peripheral vision. She knew exactly who your ride was.
“Yeah— uh, it’s actually here. I gotta go.” You say quietly before turning to Ellie. “See you tomorrow?” You wanted to hang out with her as much as you could in the last week of summer.
“Yeah, sure.” Ellie replies a bit plainly, her hands still in her pockets.
You say goodbye to your friends and head outside.
As you approach the Country Club’s front doors you could see Abby standing in front of her jeep through the window. Upon opening the doors you find her in a black suit, holding a bouquet of flowers. A smile gleams across her face as her eyes wash over you.
“You look amazing, oh my god.” She chuckles as you approach. You watch her cheeks turn a light shade of pink.
“You do too! Aw, you’re blushing.” You tease, as you open your arms, she brings you into an embrace.
As Abby held you tightly, the idea of being in a relationship with her briefly crossed your mind. It felt like the correct path—no distractions, no need to struggle to maintain a prior friendship. You convinced yourself that it was the right choice.
“I have to ask you something.” You say into her chest.
Abby pulls away, handing you the bouquet and taking your free hand into hers as she looks at you.
She hums in response, waiting patiently for you to speak.
“I think…” you begin, not really sure how to word what you were about to say, “I’m ready— if you are— for like a…” your words drift off.
Abby raises her brows in slight surprise as she waits for you to finish your sentence.
It’s like the word is caught in your throat for a moment.
“A relationship.” You smile.
Abby chuckles, almost in disbelief. “Are you, sure?”
You nod, technically you were sure. You could see Abby as your first girlfriend. She's sweet, patient, funny, and you know she cares about you. It feels right. While Ellie is in the back of your mind, you can't deny yourself happiness with someone else. Ellie is your friend and if it’s up to you, that won’t change.
Abby’s face lights up as she watches you nod.
⋆ ˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
Ellie watches you walk away, a deep sigh escaping her mouth. The rest of your friends are chatting with another group who is also heading to Colin’s after party.
“You good?” Liv nudges her gently with her elbow.
“Yup.” Ellie rasps as she reaches into her jacket’s pocket for your flask. She shakes it— empty.
“Fuck.” She sighs under her breath.
Liv examines Ellie for a couple of moments.
“Look, I know how you feel.” Liv whispers, “I can read that shit from a mile away. And frankly, I wasn’t happy with you taking her as a date here. But if your heart is really for her, you should just tell her.”
Ellie’s brows furrow in confusion, “there’s no use, she’s not—”
“Don’t be so dense Ellie, we all see the way she looks at you.” Liv rolled her eyes. “It’s not my place to comment on anyone’s sexuality but— maybe if you’re just honest with her, she’ll be honest with you too and you can both figure everything out.”
Ellie clears her throat as she ponders, glancing at your flask in her tattooed hand. “Yeah uh— I guess I should give this back to her anyway.” She shrugs, anxiety bubbling in the pit of her stomach. She knew you were out there with Abby. But the thought of never speaking to you again without telling you how she felt outweighed any awkward tension she might face.
She was fully prepared to cut your friendship out of her life after realizing how difficult it would be to stay your friend. What did she have to lose? Cat flashed across her mind, but she knows where her heart truly is. Liv was right. Ellie needed to tell you how she felt.
Ellie nods at Liv before making her way out of the hall and towards the Country Club’s lobby.
As she approaches the exit doors she can see you and Abby standing outside her jeep through the door’s window.
“Fuck me,” she groans under her breath as she halts before the doors. She pushes herself up against the shadowed wall within the vestibule, out of your line of sight.
She observes as you embrace Abby and then step back, accepting the bouquet from her. Ellie’s brows knit together. She watches as you say something, your nervousness evident. Ellie feels her heart race as she tightens her grip around the flask in her hand. She attempts to read your lips, but the words elude her.
Her gaze shifts to Abby, who appears pleasantly surprised, then back to you as she observes you nod. Smiles spread across both your and Abby's faces before you quickly glance around and abruptly pull Abby in for a kiss.
Ellie's heart plummets to the pit of her stomach, a sinking sensation seizing her. She immediately feels sick as her fingers loosen around the flask, dropping it to the floor with a loud clang, the sound echoes in her ears.
Emotions flood her senses, heartbreak, confusion, anger, and for some reason a sense of betrayal.
Why did Lily drill into my head that she was straight? Why couldn’t she be honest like she clearly is with Abby. I was ready to give up everything for her, to lay it all out for her.
That’s all she needed to see.
Ellie was done.
⋆ ˙⟡☾𖤓☽ ⟡˙⋆
You had an amazing night with Abby. You felt bad that she missed out on the formal and she was all dressed up for you, so you had her play a couple slow jams and the two of you playfully slow danced in her living room.
Making out with a girl wasn’t as terrifying as you previously thought. Abby’s lips were soft and despite her stature, she was gentle. Things did get a little heated on the couch but Abby wouldn’t move beyond making out. Which you appreciated because you knew you weren’t ready.
The next morning you woke up early and decided to make pancakes, serving them to her in bed.
“Wow, are you sure you’ve never dated a girl before?” Abby teased as you handed her, her stack of pancakes, “you really know how to please a woman.”
You roll your eyes as you chuckle, “maybe I just wanted pancakes in bed really bad, wouldn’t it be rude if I didn’t give you any.” You tease back.
You sat back in bed, resting your plate in your lap.
“Very true, thank you baby.” Abby leans over and kisses your cheek.
You hum in response as you cut into your stack of pancakes.
-
You got home from Abby’s around noon. After showering you’d decided to go over to Ellie’s to see if she wanted to hang out.
Joel was on his porch reading the newspaper as you walked across the street.
“Afternoon, kid,” he greeted you as he set the newspaper over his knee.
“Hey,” you smile, “Ellie home?”
You watch Joel’s expression change, his eyes searching for the right words.
“She uh—“ he scratches the back of his neck— just like Ellie. “Decided to head home early this mornin’.” He shrugged, “took my truck. I gotta get a ride home with Mr. Hastings later this week.”
“What?” Your stomach churns as your brows furrow.
“Yeah, sorry kid. Said she wanted to leave and you know her, there’s no stoppin’ her.” He says quietly.
Unsure of what to say you just nod. “Alright, thanks Joel.” You mutter before turning around, making your way down the porch steps.
“Hey.” Joel calls lowly from behind you, you turn to look at him once again. “She cares a lot about you and… I don’t know what’s goin’ on between y’all but I think she needs space.”
You weren’t sure what he was talking about. She literally told you last night that you’d see her today.
You examine Joel’s expression which reads concern. He’s protecting Ellie but you weren’t sure from what. You wanted to ask what happened but you didn’t want to pry.
“Okay.” You whisper as you begin to feel tears welling at your waterline. Your throat tightens as you hasten your pace across the street, back to your cabin.
Ellie was gone and you didn’t know why.

A/n: Ngl I rewrote the formal part like 5x. Sorry if that was sad asf but I love angst sooo much. Reader and Ellie just can’t seem to get on the same page ughhh It’s like torture for me even tho I’m the one writing it hahah. Ellie def is going thru a major canon lesbian event with being in love with her “straight” best friend. I mean, now she knows Lily’s not so straight after all lol. Meanwhile her “straight” best friend is stuck in a mess that is kinda her fault but also she’s trying her best (I think) with coming to terms with herself while trying to please others 😭 chronic ppl pleasers stand up 😭.
Please let me know your thoughts and/or theories on what’s happening next, my asks are always open & I love hearing from you guys! This chapter was long af and I didn’t wna split it up so I hope you didn’t mind reading so much. I had a lot of trouble picking one song so I just included many lol. Music inspires me so much when I write like I feel like I can literally place myself within a story if I’m reading/ writing while listening to music, so check out the syns playlist linked at the top.
Comments are especially appreciated because I love hearing your thoughts <3 tysm for reading <3

Warnings: non/dubcon, pregnancy, pegging, Lloyd being the worst, post partum, csection, suicidial ideation, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
Tumblr media
Trapped in another holding pattern. That's all that life seems to be. Phases. Dull and prolonged. Waiting but for what?
Your days aren't much different than before Lloyd's return. He may as well have stayed gone. For you, he's not there. He's nothing. He doesn't deserve to be anything to you.
Your routine once more stagnates; sleep and feedings and some crying. Between it all, you see Harlan or Dottie, sometimes both. Your mother-in-law has grown quiet, even evasive, since her son came back. You know why but you won't argue with her or her precious Marion.
You get your walks in, looking forward to the escape from the suffocating walls. Andy passes you often, waving or saying hi. He doesn't try to talk again, not with your father around. They barely acknowledge each other. You ignore his texts. You're still trying to figure it all out.
When you're at home, Harlan holds Luna as you catch up on your reality TV. You whisper back and forth about your most hated personalities. It can never be what it once was, or what you wished it could be, but it's manageable.
That day, Harlan and Dottie go into town to do some shopping. You haven't seen Lloyd but you don't mourn his absence. Not like before.
You have Luna downstairs in her rolling bassinet. She's fully fed and sleepy. You might do some cooking. You're finally feeling up to it.
You shiver and watch your daughter dozing peacefully. Why is it so cold in here? You hug yourself and notice the draft freezing in from the kitchen. You find one of the french doors slightly open and push it shut. You can guess who did it. You should lock him out but you'd rather not provoke a confrontation.
You go back to the front room. Something feels off. You don't know. Maybe it's just the empty house. You check the thermostat then the bassinet. Luna is tucked against the side. She must feel it too.
You make sure the wheels are locked before you flit out to grab a quilt from the nursery. You pant as you get to the top of the stairs. Whew, you still got work to do before you're anywhere close to back to normal.
You snatch the sewn pink blanket and come back down, catching your breath as you sweep through the doorway.
“Lulu,” you say quietly, “gonna swaddle you up–”
You notice the angle of the bassinet. It's not how you left it, almost parallel to the sofa instead. You rush over and nearly scream as the bottom stares back at you empty.
You drop the quilt and spin, searching for any sign of the culprit. You storm back into the foyer and stomp a foot.
“Lloyd!” You bellow, not caring if you wake the babe, “where the fuck are you? Give me my baby!”
Nothing. Just the echo of your anger. You snarl and holler again. Louder.
“LLOYD! I'M NOT FUCKING AROUND!”
You stride forward and go down the hall. Not in the kitchen. Nope, not in the dining room either. You go through the first floor, yelling, then ascend the stairs again. There's no way he could've snuck her up there.
“You motherfucker. Lloyd!” You stop at the top, “it's not fucking funny.”
“Jesus Christ!” You hear a door swing open, then another as he comes out of his bedroom, “what is it now? Wanna call me more names? Push me around?”
He has a towel clutched around his waist as his feet slap on the floor. He glistens, his hair slick and dripping the noise of the shower still buzzing. You gulp and your heart drops.
“Lloyd, give her back.”
“What?”
“Don't. Give me Luna.”
“Luna–” he grimaces, “what the fuck? You serious? You won't let me see her and now– wait, where is she?”
You stand silent in horror. He's a loar to the bone but dammit, he's convincing.
“You took her. I know… I went to get her a blanket and you…”
“I've been in the shower for twenty minutes, sweetheart,” he sneers, “I… she's… gone?”
You croak. It's all you can do. You spin and hurtle back downstairs. You near the bassinet again and squeal. Gripping the sides as panic floods your chest.
“She's gone! Lloyd! My baby! Where is she?!”
You hear him come downstairs and his footsteps rush across the floor, searching everywhere you did. He appears from the kitchen, barely hanging onto his towel. You look at him as he stares at you palely.
“The back door was unlocked.”
“I know, I thought you were out there–”
“Peaches,” he utters as his eyes dilate, “call the police.”
🍑
You're still sobbing as the red and blue flash on the other side of the window. You told the story a dozen times over. It's 2am and you haven't seen Luna in thirteen hours. You feel her absence heavy in your chest.
Your baby. You failed her. She's gone and it's all your fault.
Why didn't you just take her upstairs? Why did you want to cook? Why weren't you watching her? Why didn't you lock the goddamn door?
“Honey,” Harlan clinks down a mug and his weight dips beside you on the couch, “they'll find her. She can't have gone far.”
“No, no, no,” you bawl, head throbbing, “someone took her. Someone– it's all my fault–”
“Shhh, shhh, it's alright. It'll be alright. She got everyone lookin’, they'll find her.”
“I fucked up!” You fold over your lap, “I was selfish--c-c-carlessssss.”
He hushes you again and rubs your back. You can hear the police milling around outside, a few inside still investigating every nook and cranny.
“Ma'am,” an officer approaches, “we're doing what we can but these things can take a while. You know, we got a few volunteers from the neighborhood too and some statements–”
“I don't care! I want my daughter back,” you snap.
“Sorry, officer, she's just…scared,” Harlan slings his arm over your shoulders.
“Understood,” the officer says, “we're doing all we can.”
You sniffle and bury your face in your palms. This can't be real. It is and it's all on you. You wished so many times that Luna would just go away, you didn't want her, you remember that, and now that wish came true. You are a monster.
“Breathe,” Harlan coos as your breath turns shallow and suffocating, “honey, please, you needa–”
“Let me look!” You sit up, so dizzy you nearly keel over, “I wanna look for her.”
“Dear, you already did. You needa rest.”
“No, no!” You shove him away and stand, slippers slapping as you stomp around the couch, “she's my baby, I can find her! I know I will.”
“You won't help. Lloyd's already out there–” Harlan calls after you as he follows.
You hurry through the entryway and burst out the front door. You hear your father swearing as he scrambles for his shoes. The snow crunches under your thin soles as you jog past the cruisers and the uniformed figures.
You turn down the street without a thought. The streetlights flash over you, yellow, then darkness, yellow, dark…. You don't know where you're going. Maybe you want to disappear too.
You hear Harlan calling your name but he's getting further away, not closer. You slow down and cough, lungs burning. You lean on a fence post and bend to collect yourself.
“What are you doing out here?” A drawl brings you straight up.
You squint. You think it's Lloyd at first, you haven't seen him since the police got there. Andy steps into the soft hue of the lightpole.
“I… what are you doing?” You throw the question back at Andy.
“I'm a volunteer firefighter. Heard there was a missing baby so I've been helping. I'm sorry to hear about Luna. I don't know who would do this.”
You shake your head and snivel, “I don't know.”
“I know what it's like to lose a child but… I think… she's out there. It'll be okay. You'll see her again, I know it.”
“I hope,” your voice cracks and wipes your eyes as your grief spills anew, “I should go back.”
He says nothing. You back away and turn, dragging your feet down the pavement. You see the sirens lit up and the distant beans of flashlights. Suddenly, you're caught around the neck, a hand smothering your mouth.
“Do you wanna see her?” Andy whispers as you kick out, “Luna needs her mommy…” he wrestles you out of the cone of light and behind the fence, “so do I.”
You thrash, clawing at his sleeve. Your slippers fly off in your struggle as he squeezes tighter. No, it can't be him.
You were wrong. Again.

OH MY GOD I JSUT HAD AN IDEA. PAV WITH AN INSECURE GF :( hes so sad and he's js wondering why she feels like that :( and he like. buys her flowers and just like kisses all over her face and tells her all the things he loves about her :(
AHHHHHH PAV BABYYYYYY
….
Only you.
“Thithli, there is no one in any universe I love more.”
Tumblr media
blushes giggles kicks feet twirls hair chokes a little coughs giggles again
There wasn’t a moment in time where Pavitr wasn’t infatuated with you.
From the second he’d seen you he’d already had all his love in his hands, down on his knees begging you take it from him and keep it for yourself.
He’d let you cave your way into his chest, rip his ribs and lungs apart. Let you curl yourself around his heart and make yourself home in his chest.
Everything about you made him feel like a sailor to the sea, called only by the softened sounds of your calming voice.
And every day, when you laid next to him, sleeping curled up against his chest. He would trace every line and crease of your face, every feature your body held. Every mark and blemish and would call you flawless.
Would close his eyes when his heart started beating a tad too fast, and would thank every god he’d ever known for bringing him to you.
So when you had the audacity, the gall— to feel insecure about any one thing, he had to shut that down like his life depended on it.
You were shaking, the trembles brimming under your skin a thorough show of your unnerve.
You were at an event, a pretty tame one considering the other Pav had bring you too.
And in the midst of all the talking and introducing, you had lost him. In a sea of around 150 people, you were isolated. Desolate in yourself.
So to say you were anxious was an understatement. You berated yourself, the small voice in your head giggling and snickering at your own anguish.
You should go find him.
Ohhh, yeah, sure. Cause if he walked away in an event he’d invited you too, he definitely wants to be found.
Jesus christ, It’s not like that.
Someone had brushed up against your shoulder, you jerked away quickly.
“I am so sorry.” You basically pleaded with the woman before she could even speak. She laughed happily, seeming to be completely okay with what just happened. “It’s no bother, sweetie. I bumped into you,” She laughed again. “,I should be the one apologising!”
You laughed with her this time, calmed but still beyond nervous. She turned away, leaking back into the sea of the crowd.
You damn clutz.
It’s fine, she wasn’t mad. She was nice, what the fuck are you on about.
She looked pissed.
She was smiling.
You felt insane, talking to yourself like this, you were in control of your own thoughts, why were they so against you?
Walking along the edge of everyone, in a decision to go find your Pav, you scanned the room for his face.
In the far corner, a way away from you, you caught sight of him.
He was lent against a wall, in a packed party, his hands gesturing wildly as he talked to a group of people. He paused for dramatic effect, before saying the lunch line. The group laughed with him, joyous in light of the story.
One of the girls, evidently closer to him than others, laughed exceptionally loud. Giggling and tapping his arm as she did. Pressing closer to him in a stumble, or, what was faked to be.
Pav glanced at her, paying no mind, before he slyly brushed her off. Your heart strengthened a little at the act. But when she pressed even closer, and he didn’t do anything about it, the hope was shattered.
Told you.
Please be quiet, just this once. Please.
..Okay.
You went to turn around, to get out of there before you could make yourself worse, you knew you were being irrational, insecure.
But you couldn’t help it, and when the girl caught your eye and smirked, your resolve had been broke. You turned quickly. making your way away from the party, from your lover.
You needed to get out of here.
Your thoughts were quiet, a buzzing running your mind. There was a sting in the back of your eyes but it was dull, like static had been shoved into your cortex.
Bile had rose to the back of your throat, trapped and never fully being enough to make you gag it up.
You ran cross the busy trafficked street, the cars were barely moving, but you still waved them down in thanks or sorry despite.
Like a woman from her crimes, you ran.
Pavitr shrugged the lady off once more, shooting her a nervous look. He was uncomfortable, and people were starting to take notice, except for her apparently. Seeing as every time he pushed her away, she pushed back stronger.
A witching giggle erupting when he made his jokes. He didn’t like this, going to tell the woman off, that he has a girlfriend, before someone else had done it for him.
Gwen basically came out of nowhere, which given the watch on her wrist— wouldn’t be impossible. She shoved her way between them. Putting her arm around Pav’s shoulder and chatting loudly.
He shot her a grateful look, sighing in relief while Gwen took the girls spot. Geeking him like an old pal before anyone in the circle could notice anything amiss, slowly, but forcefully pushing the girl farther and farther away from her friend.
“What’s up, Pav?” She smiled at him, speaking over the music playing. People greeted Gwen as she did back.
“Nothing much, Gwen.” He was genuinely happy now, his friend bringing him a security he hadn’t felt before.
“Where’s the girlfriend? She’s been coming to a lot of these with you, hasn’t she?” Gwen glanced at the scowling woman when she mentioned her.
“Oh! Yes, She’s been getting more and more comfortable with my family! So more family events. I’m so proud of her,” The stars in his eyes as he spoke “,Getting more confident as the days go by. I’m so happy with her.”
Gwen smiled at him, genuinely in awe that her friend had found someone to love like that. Who loved him back just as much, if ever more.
“She left.”
The grating voice of the woman brought it seemed, everyone in the inner-circle to freeze. She sound so smug, so happily responsible.
“What?”
“Oh, Yeah! A while ago, actually. Saw her leave when we were talking.”
Gwen cut it, anger lining her voice.
“And you didn’t say anything?”
The woman tried to play off innocent, trying to make it seem like Gwen was attacking her.
“What! Why would I? She looked pretty upset about something, Im not gonna intervene.”
“…Upset?” Pav whispered to himself.
Gwen peeled off of him, turning to the woman and indirectly interrogating her.
Pavitr took the chance to slip away, already on his way to grab his back and find his web slingers.
He reached the entrance to the main room, thanking the staff and grabbing his stuff.
Pulling out his phone he clicked on your contact, a photo of your squished cheeks between his thumb and forefinger while he kissed your temple the contact.
Pressing “Call Mobile.”, he waited for your answer. Putting his web slingers on in the closest ally he could find.
“C’mon, Shonu pick up.”
He put on his mask, not bothering with the rest of the shit while the tone rang out. Cursing something sweet, he put his phone in his bag, and swung it across his shoulders, shooting webs on either corner of the building, and launching himself forward.
When you came to it, there was a knock at the door.
You had spent the better half of an hour sitting in your bed, doing little to nothing but thinking about every flaw you could behold.
The way your voice sounded when you talked.
How you got nervous so easily, always in need of Pav’s soothing words to talk you through it.
To how you cried so much, and the annoyance that would cause him.
Every other thing stacked up and piled into this ugly amalgamation of why he would want to leave you.
And it was a lot of things.
You groaned as you got up, wiping the tears from your stained face, and patting your eyes to make them seem less puffy as you opened the door.
Pavitr was right behind it, flowers almost dead in his hand from how high speeds he was going to get to you.
“Did someone die?”
“Wha— Pav, no. No one died.”
“Okay good, because I got these flowers thinking I could be romantic but then realised if someone had died, probably not the time for romance.”
You giggled, the thoughts clouding you mind fading away for a moment and you relished in it.
“Can I come in?”
His voice was soft, and with the way his free hand reached out to caress the apple of your cheek. Thumb wiping away the remaining tears and comforting your heart. You couldn’t refuse him. Nodding to him, his hand fell from your face. You opened the door wider, letting him through before closing and locking it.
He went for your couch, ready to sit and talk to you. He wanted to know why you left, and not to take that lady’s words to heart—. But if you were upset, he needed to be there for you. In his heart, his head, every sense of his self— That’s what should be as a partner. The shoulder to cry on, man to love, and to love you himself. To give his all to you and let you take anything from him.
You followed him to the couch, sitting next to him like a scolded child, guilt scratching at your gut.
He kissed your temple, placing the flopping bouquet on your coffee table.
“[Name], Whats wrong? Why’d you leave without coming to get me?”
You cringed, looking down at your hands. “I didn’t mean to—,” your voice was trembling. “,—I just..”
You cut yourself off, pushing the ball of your palms into your eyes, the tears falling from the creases of your eyes and being wiped away in the same beat.
“I freaked.”
You sighed out, shaking in every inhale.
Pavitr’s shoulders sagged, a kind of saddened relief. Still worried but not nearly as much.
“You know you can come get me anytime you need baby, you must’ve walked all the way here, I mean—“
“—I tried.”
He paused. The sentence making his words fall flat in his mouth.
“Thithli—“
“You were with that— that girl. And I couldn’t—“
“[Name].” His stern voice interrupted.
“Sorry.”
“Please, Pari, don’t be.” He grabbed your hands, coddling them up in his own and shuffling himself closer to you. His knees brushing yours. You looked up at him, watching the smile lines etched into his skin slowly from.
“You know it’s only you, right?”
He was as breathless as you, less of a nerve ridden thing. More of a bashful blow.
A dumb noise left your mouth, a whine mixed with a sob. “I know.”
“Shonu. You are the only person in any universe I could love the way I do,” He promised you, the sincerity in his voice putting your mind at an ease only he could bring.
“,You understand?”
He moved ever closer, slipping his hands from yours to grab your waist and pull you over him.
“Yeah—… Yes.”
“Good.” He smiled. He kissed the crease between your brows, smoothening it away.
Your teary smile melted his heart. Small whines still wracking your body.
“I know, Thithli, I know.” He whispered to you, rubbing your skin in hypnotising circles.
Later that week, you returned home to see flower (admittedly more alive) on your kitchen counter, chocolates and sweets placed next to it.
A basket of skin care, sweets and anything you could think of on your couch.
You put the flowers in your spare vase, running a small bit of water for the plants to drink. Putting the chocolates in the fridge, not before nicking one. The caramel of the sweet making your heart ache.
You entered your room, a small envelope with a heart on the lip gaining your attention.
You approached with a smile, slipping your thumb under the paper to pull out the card.
A spider-man themed card was in your palm, you giggled at the silly image of your boyfriend on the front.
You opened it up, the words “Happy Birthday! You’re eight!” Crudely scribbled out and replaced with Pav’s messy handwriting.
“Have a good day, Shonu. I love you.”
once more i got out of hand this was meant to be 200 words tops

Patrol Partner Protection Syndrome - E.W.
Tumblr media
summary: Ellies habit of going above and beyond her duties as a patrol partner causes you to question her motives.
tags: patrol partner!ellie, slight innocent! reader, ellie is older than you in this, swearing, a kiss is shared at the end, no smut in this one folks just good ol fashion yearning :)
a/n: as usual i wrote this very spur of the moment and its not proofread but you love me anyways so j shut up and enjoy
“Yep, that sounds like a classic case of the 3PS.”
“3PS? That sounds like a fucking star wars character.”
A loud laugh leaves Jesses lips at your remark furthering your frustration visibly before Dina smacks him on the shoulder gently.
“Patrol partner protection syndrome.” Dina says plainly.
“What the hell is that?”
“Its why Ellie threatened that guy that was flirting with you at the bison last night.”
The look on your face is still riddled with confusion. Dina sighs deeply, your innocence was always something that was a little difficult for others to adjust to. Explaining certain topics always took a little longer when it came to you.
“Sometimes, when two people get paired up on patrol they begin to…how should I say this? Okay look. Usually in a pair theres one person who feels a strong obligation to protect the other. It doesnt always have to be the stronger person per say. On patrol you and this one person go through some serious shit together. You both become more and more venerable the more you put your trust in them and let them protect you, aaand sometimes the lines blur between them protecting you to keep you alive and them protecting you because they think they are meant to. All the time.”
You slowly begin to understand.
“Its what happened with me and Jesse…Tommy and Maria too.”
“Wait but you’re all couples.”
Jesse and Dina look at each other then look at you. A grin fights its way on both their faces, then your eyes grow wide.
“Oh my god….OH? MY GOD? Are you saying Ellie likes me?”
They both burst out into laughter, once again making you feel extremely embarrassed. You cross your arms in frustration and slump further in your chair.
“Hey. Hey hey. Im not saying she HAS a crush on you, because thats not my place to assume how she feels completely.”
“Buut she did mention her heart beats faster anytime you smile at her, and thats like pretty gay.”
“JESSE.”
Jesse throws his hands up in defense, then shoots you a sympathetic look.
“Sorry! Look am I wrong? You two would be great together. Plus i’m sick of hearing about you every time Ellie comes over.”
“JESSE!”
“What? WHAT?”
“Your killing them.”
You felt exhausted. Ellie had feelings for you? She consoled in her best friends about your smile? This changes everything. How were you supposed to see her casually or for patrol, knowing what you knew now.
“Jesus im losing it.”
“Well, do you feel anything for Ellie?”
You thought about it for a moment.
“I-I dont know. I mean I like having her around. She always makes me feel comfortable…safe. I really like when she cooks for me or plays me songs on her guitar. She always looks so cool when she plays, and her voice is sooo pretty. I mean shes also really pretty too. Well not pretty…more like-“
As you search for the right word to describe Ellie you notice the way the couple looks at you. Like you just said something incredibly obvious and extremely oblivious to you. Then it sinks in.
“Oh my god I like Ellie.”
They both nod in unison.
“I gotta go.” You shoot up and grab your bag then rush out Dina and Jesses place, not bothering to say your goodbyes. You only had one thing in mind.
Ellie.
As you run as fast as your legs can muster, you think about the events of last night that led you to Dinas and Jesses inquiring them for advice.
It was all very trivial and cliche. You had been dancing at the Tipsy Bison after a few shots of whiskey, on your own. The usual gang was there minding their own except for Ellie. She always had her eyes on you whenever your presence was near. Glass in hand as she leaned on the bar watching while you spun around the room. Ellie couldn’t bring herself to join you, so she settled for being an audience member. She always admired your outgoing nature, never concerned on what others think of you. As Ellie thought about other attributes you had that made her fall for you, someone else had decided to take it upon them to impede on your dance party of one.
Some man tall in height but skinny in stature stood uncomfortably close to you. Uncomfortable for Ellie that is. The grip had tightened on her glass so that if she clenched any harder it would break. The sight of the mans arm slithering around your waist and pulling you close had Ellie swallowing the rest of the contents of her drink and slamming the glass on the bar counter and making her way over to you both.
“Ellie-“ Dina tried to stop her due to the angry nature of the glass hitting the wood making a sound loud enough to pull the couple away from whatever they were having, but its no good.
“Save it.” Ellie snaps, then makes her way over to you. As she advances closer she can tell you weren’t one hundred percent comfortable with this random mans advances on you. She knew you were too nice, too innocent to understand that his intentions were not pure and that you didnt have the strength to push him away. But Ellie sure did.
“Thats enough of that.” Ellie says as she rips the mans arms off of you and grabs your wrists to pull you away from him.
“Woah woah who the fuck are you?”
“Im Ellie, and we are leaving.”
“I think they can make that decision for themselves huh?”
Ellie looks at you with a deep frustration. One you had never seen in those eyes before. Not even on patrol, this was something by different. If you weren’t so tipsy you could swear it was laced with a heavy amount of possession.
“Ellie.” you slur slightly.
“We are leaving. Now.” Before the man can protest you were being pulled out the door and into the cold jackson night.
The walk back to your place was silent. Ellies grip on your wrist had morphed into a waffling hand hold sometime after you exited the Tipsy Bison. The warmth of her fingers intertwined with yours made you heat up inside, blushing extremely prominently due to the alcohol running through your system.
When you had finally reached your door Ellie pulls you face to face with her. Hand still together. She uses her free hand to push some loose strands of off your face to see you better. A soft smile twitches on her lips for a moment then she finally speaks.
“Go inside and go to bed, you’re drunk.” Its not the farewell you hoped for, but it’s soft. Ellie utters the words with care in her own way. You can’t help but stare at her through lidded puppy eyes and nod slowly.
You turn to unlock the door then turn back around.
“Goodnight Ellie.” You whisper in a way that makes her heart ache.
“Goodnight.”
It’s only when she turns around to walk away does she finally let go of your hand.
“Ellie? Ellie please open up I know you’re in there.”
After knocking for what felt like forever you were finally graced with the sounds of locks being undone. You take a step back and watch the door swing open revealing a slightly disheveled looking Ellie. Still she renders you speechless for a moment her appearance making you shy, as it always has.
“What’s up?” She says genuinely concerned. You see her face soften when she realized the interruption of her personal time was you. The difference making you blush.
“I-Can I come in?”
Her eyes grow wide, you hadn’t been inside of her space yet. The vision of you and her in her room alone flashes through her brain. She steps aside and opens the door fully to make room for you to enter.
“Oh yeah of course please come in. Sorry.” She laughs shyly. You make your way into her space and can no longer hold your questions to yourself.
“Sorry its kind of a mess I wasnt really expecting any-“
“Ellie do you like me?” Its silent for a moment before Ellie speaks up.
“Of course I like you kid, you’re my patrol partner.”
“No not in that way I mean, you’re always looking out for me and making me things. Even when we aren’t on patrol! You act like my bodyguard sometimes…”
Ellie knows exactly where to is going. Your confrontation of her actions makes her smile a bit.
“I feel the need to protect you outside of patrol sometimes, sure.” Shes looking right in your eyes, observing the look on your face so she doesn’t say the wrong thing. Right now you look as if you had just been hypnotized eyes devoid of much thought.
“3PS.” You whisper, just loud enough for Ellie to hear. It’s quiet for a moment then an involuntary scoff comes from Ellie as she raises her arm to pinch the bridge of her nose.
“You’ve been talking to fucking Jesse.” She laughs and turns away from you. You watch her in awe of what you felt like Jesse and Dina had prophesied. Was it really that simple? The act of protecting someone equating to love was a thought that made your heart swell.
“Ellie…I like you. Alot. But I need to know if you like like me or if you just like me enough to protect me. Like you would protect Jesse or Dina. Because I thought I just liked you but then I started thinking about your voice-“
“My voice?” Ellie had turned back around and was still while watching this confession spill out of you. Her question driving a step closer to you, the advancement unbeknownst to you due to the rambling of your thoughts.
“Yes your voice, and the way you sing and play guitar for me and how much i like it-”
Another step.
“-and how pretty you sound when you sing-“
Step.
“-and how pretty you look, well- not pretty but-“
With this last step you had only now realized how close she had gotten. Speech dying at the lack of a word to describe Ellies appearance. You were certain there wasn’t a word so great.
“You don’t think i’m pretty?” Shes pouts, lost on your words. The praise of her leaving your lips so easily is something she would soon crave often. Your breath begins to pick up slightly at her question. The look on her face causes you to whimper slightly. A look of hurt adorns her face, exaggerated to make you feel bad for her.
“No.” You protest meekly.
“No?” Ellie shakes her head in offense.
“No! I-I mean…I think you’re very pretty Ellie.” You shakily admit. The words make you feel a wave of embarrassment in this situation. Her proximity not making this confession any easier.
“Yeah?” She questions rising her hands to push your hair out of your face as she did the night before. The feeling of her fingertip makes you lean into her touch, closing your eyes at the soft stroke of her digit on your forehead.
“Mhhm” You nod and sigh simultaneously. As your head falls due to your loss of strength at her touch, she takes your head into her hand and strokes your cheek with her thumb. This delicate action causes your eyes to open slowly meeting Ellies green ones. Everything about her exudes admiration. She cant get enough of how at her disposal you seemed to be in this moment. The sight of you had coaxed out the need to protest admitting her feelings. No longer afraid that you might deny her.
“I..like like you too.” She whispers while staring at your lips, licking her own at the sight of them. The new shine of her lips brings a heat to your cheeks, Ellie notices this and inhales deep. Her confession has you reeling. The sound of her voice as she admits her likeness towards you radiates need. For once you are certain it’s because of you. Ellie needed you. Ellie wanted you.
“Stay with me today. Hmm? Let me show you.” The softness of her request is as comforting as a pillow. You can tell she so desperately wants to rid you of any doubts that Ellie was completely and utterly infatuated with you.
“Show me what?” You ask curious of what she had in store. She licks her lips again. Then brings your face so close that you can feel Ellies breath on your lips as she whispers-
“How much I like you.”
before placing a desperate kiss on your lips.

OK LUKE X CHILD OF ERIS
The goddess of chaos, and reader fucking has wings!
𝒞𝒽𝒶ℴ𝓈
I LOVE THAT???? THIS IS SO GREAT, also im so sorry this took me a while to finish ): ugh
Warnings- profanity, beating someone up (what’d you expect tho), mention of blood
Tumblr media
As your mother didn’t have a cabin, you spent years in the Hermes cabin. You were her only child, no sense in making a new cabin, plus, Dionysus and the others didn’t like Eris at all, she was one of the most hated among the Gods.
And since you’ve been there for so long, you became close with the Hermes children as a child. You became especially close with one boy named Luke.
Growing up, the two of you would pull pranks and mess around with the heads of camp. Dionysus, the old counselors, Chiron, and at one point the Gods themselves.
The Gods disliked you and your mother never talked to you, you were bound to cause trouble.
You had proved to be quite a problem around camp, and somehow managed to still become a counselor.
Now you were skipping stones on the lake, after cancelling the lessons you had with some campers.
“Thought you had lessons.” A voice said, coming up behind you. You didn’t have to turn around to know it was Luke.
“I cancelled.” You replied, only turning when he came next to you.
“Why?” He asked, picking up a stone from the ground and skipping them with you.
“Didn’t feel like it today.” You said with a small shrug, your wings were tucked but slightly fluttered as you moved.
“Mmm.” He mumbled, and you both skipped the stone at the same time.
“Looks like I win.” You said with a smirk on your face. He groaned.
“You always win.”
“So, why are you here?” You asked the boy, turning to him now.
He shrugged. “Bored.” Lie. He wanted to see you.
You nodded. “Well, i would say we should fuck something up but I’m guessing you’re busy.” You spoke, looking around the scene.
“Never too busy for you.”
You rolled his eyes at his flirtatiousness, you two often “jokingly” flirted and teased, you shoved his shoulder and he just laughed.
“You’re weird.” You spoke, walking away. He followed and was soon walking next to you.
“I’m weird?” He scoffed. You gave him a glare.
“Sorry, I was joking.” He held his hands up in defense. You walked back to camp, new campers were being brought in.
“Hey, uh, I’m really sorry, but do you think you guys could show the new campers around? I have a uh… emergency.” One of the Aphrodite counselors spoke, coming up to you both.
You furrowed your eyebrows.
“What’s wrong?” You asked her, not believing her for a second.
“One of my sisters is in the infirmary.”
Before you could speak, Luke spoke. “Okay. Yeah. Sure, no problem.” You nudged him in the arm.
She thanked you and ran over to another cabin.
“Dude!”
“What?”
“She’s lying.” You motioned to her now running over to her boyfriend, kissing him with a smile on her face.
“Oh.”
“Jesus Christ, you need to learn not to be so nice to everyone. She’s an asshole.”
“One of us has to. Why’s she an asshole?” He shrugged, looking at the campers.
“Because. I can just tell.” He furrowed his eyebrows and just began to talk to the kids.
“Okay, hello, everyone! Welcome, to camp half blood. I am Luke Castellan, and this is Y/n L/n. We are going to be giving you your tour instead, on account of…”
“On account of him being a naive idiot.” You spoke to them, a small smile on your face as you motioned to luke.
He rolled his eyes. “Ignore her. Any questions before we start?”
“Uh, how will we know who our parents are?” One asked.
“Well, if your Godly parent is nice enough to, you will be claimed after you show some sort of glory.”And if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get your own cabin. Clearly I did not get lucky enough.” You told them, mumbling the last part.
The campers looked confused.
“Okay… any more questions?” luke asked.
“Why do you have wings?” One asked, their voice curious.
“Yeah, I’m not answering that. Any non-personal questions, you jackasses?” You asked, loudly.
Luke’s hand flew to your mouth. “Let’s get on with the tour, shall we?” He said, a nervous smile on his face.
The kids didn’t seem to have any now. They walked as Luke spoke, showing them around. Luke didn’t notice however, that you had snuck off to somewhere until he turned around to ask you something.
He sighed, calling your name out. Of course, you came back with a bloodied nose and knuckle. He groaned, all the new campers whispering and talking about it.
He came up to you, grabbing your wrist.
“I leave you alone for 10 seconds! What the fuck happened?!”
You shrugged, feigning innocence as the same counselor who lied was dragged out from behind, you whipped your head the other way.
Wiping the blood from your nose, you had a proud smile on your face as you turned back to the kids.
“So, how was the tour?”

i hold it like a grudge - ch. 5
Tumblr media
I don’t know why this fic wrecked me so much. I’m literally the author. I know what’s gonna happen. I decided what’s gonna happen. Maybe I’m just tired. also does anyone remember that time I said I hated writing chaptered fics and swearing that each one was an anomaly/the last time I’d ever do it?
table of contents you’re still everything to me
Jamie Tartt is in your kitchen, puttering around so he can make a pot of tea and with an eyebrow slit like it’s 2013 again.
He sent you to go change so you slip on sweatpants and curl up on the sofa.
“Here you are, love,” he says, setting the tea down on the coffee table. He sits on the opposite end of the sofa, a respectable distance away.
“Why didn’t I see you?” you ask, staring out the window. The room is illuminated by the streetlight glow from the kitchen.
“How d’you mean?” responds.
“I visited mum last year. I was there all day. Why didn’t I see you?”
Jamie pauses. “I went early.”
“No, no you didn’t. There weren’t any flowers when I got there, and you said you brought her flowers.”
He’s quiet long enough for you to turn and check if he’s even still in the room.
He is.
“I… saw you,” he says eventually. “Didn’t think we’d be there at the same time, but-” he raises an eyebrow as punctuation. “Anyway, I was behind a tree. Saw you sit down and at first I thought I’d just wait in the car, but you started crying and- and I didn’t know if I should say somethin’ or leave. Did neither, so I just stayed. Placed the flowers and paid my respects once you left.”
You sip your tea in silence.
After a long time you say, “I’m glad you didn’t say anything.”
“She always believed in me,” he says by way of reply. “Even when I was being a little shit, she still made me feel like she wanted me around. Three people I want to make proud the most were her, mummy, and you.”
“Wanted,” you correct. “Wanted to make proud. Mum’s gone, and we’re not even friends.”
“D’you think we ever could be?”
You consider. There’s a part of you that feels like you’re friends already. He’s in your flat for fuck’s sake.
“I don’t know,” you say. “Honestly I don’t. I’ve only ever loved you, Jamie, and for a long time I couldn’t see the future without you. I still can’t see it, I’m just living day-by-day sometimes.”
He chews his lip. “How can I make it up to you?”
He’s asking all the hard questions tonight.
“I don’t hate you anymore,” you say frankly. “You were there for me when I needed you, and you leaving me was the worst. But it turned out good. And, I dunno, over the last few days I just keep wondering what’s gonna stop you from leaving again? Deciding you want someone else more, or my value means less?”
“Maturity.” He says it slightly drawn out, enunciating the consonants. He has a hint of a smile, which is stupid, because now you have one too.
“Seriously, though, I’m not like that anymore. Went of, was a prick, and it were shit. I’ve never heard mum that mad at me, Jesus Christ. Swore my ear off, she did. Didn’t have real friends, wasn’t happy, drank a lot of vanilla vodka. Keeley broke up with me for cheating on her, too, but not with sex, like; just on a date. Said shit about accountability.”
He says it the same way he said maturity.
“Hm,” you say. What else is there to say, really?
“Hm,” you say again as you reach to set your tea down and move to the other end of the couch so you’re pressed up against Jamie’s side.
He wraps his arms around you and pulls you close.
“Stay the night?” you whisper. “I don’t want to be alone and I have a guest bed.”
Jamie nods.
It’s 3am, and you wake up with the sound of your mum saying your name still echoing in your room. You’d been dreaming, showing her the life you’d created and she’d smiled the whole time. She wasn’t wispy, she was the same mum who kicked a football with Jamie, sang horribly off-key with Simon, and convinced Georgie to even give him a chance in the first place.
Tears pool in the corner of your eye.
I am not drowning. I can do this.
There’s a light tap on the door. “Come in,” you croak.
Jamie pushes it open and sticks his head in. “You’re crying,” he states. “Woke up a minute ago feeling shitty.”
You pat the bed and roll over.
Jamie climbs in under the covers and reaches tentatively for your hand. You let him take it.
“Just because I’m emotionally fragile does not mean that I forgive you,” you tell him tearfully. “I’m just pretending you never left and everything’s fine so I’m not going to hate myself for letting you into my room and letting you see me cry.”
“Alright,” he whispers. “C’mere. We’ll forget about it in the morning.”
You both move closer under the covers. You blame sleep and grief for the kiss you press to his clavicle, and you’re sure you’re dreaming they way he murmured, “How the fuck did I ever leave you?”
Jamie is true to his word. He doesn’t say a word when you wake up, just extricates himself from your hold and goes downstairs.
“I’ll be here for today,” he tells you once you drag yourself out of bed. “After that, you can decide how you feel about me. You don’t have to think about it today.”
It’s a four-hour drive to Manchester, and you’re not sure when it was decided that a) Jamie was coming with you, or b) that he’d be the one driving. He stops to pick up breakfast and coffee and doesn’t say a word about eating in his fancy car. You stare out the window and let the music playing over the speakers flow over you. It’s still raining, less than last night but still heavily.
You grip Jamie’s hand with white knuckles and cry, truly cry in a way you only allow once a year but this time, there’s a new component.
I could’ve had this, you think. You and Jamie, together.
Something new tugs at your chest and you turn to look at Jamie. Tears have gathered in the corners of his eyes, and he’s sniffling a but, trying not to let it show.
You readjust in your seat so you’re leaning against his arm, and he tilts his head to rest on yours for a fraction of a moment.
Your mum’s place is the same as it always is. Her name, printed in rounded letters. The dates, signifying that she did not spend enough time here. You place down your blanket and sit, back against the headstone as usual with your head tilted up to the sky. Jamie stands a good distance away, just watching with his hands shoved in his pockets.
“Hi mum,” you begin, voice cracking. “Um, I’m sorry I don’t get up here much. But that’s what kids do, right? Leave the nest and only visit on holidays.
Things are going well still. I’ve gotten offers for collabs with some brands, so I guess that’s cool. Jamie’s here, he’s by the tree though. I don’t- I don’t know what to do about it, mum. I wish you were here. You always saw things clearer than any of us, and I just don’t know. Turns out I didn’t ever stop loving him. Keeley thinks we have this weird cosmic connection or something. Do you believe in that? I think you might have.
I- I think we’re going to see Georgie and Simon after this. I don’t really know. I haven’t been thinking straight today, you know. I just miss you.  I want to hug you again and I promise I’m okay on my own, it’s just hard sometimes. I thought- I thought-”
You’re unable to get the rest of the words out. It’s fucking sunny out and it feels wrong, like the world should remember this is a day to mourn a soul who should’ve been around longer. The sky should at least have the decency to cry along with you.
A hand touches your face to wipe away a tear. You wrap your arms around Jamie’s neck and he just holds you for a minute, an hour, a year. Time might be passing but you’re unaware of it. He’s whispering in your ear, saying, “I’ve got you, it’s alright love, take as much time as you need,” but it’s only sounds to you. Sweet sounds, but not comprehensible words.
It’s safe, here. It shouldn’t be, here on your mother’s grave with your cheating ex-boyfriend in your arms, but it doesn’t feel like that.
It feels more like you’ve finally arrived home after years of travel.
Jamie feels the same as he did before he made it to the Premier League, back when he’d nick flowers from a garden and climb through your window late at night, not like the prideful boy who broke your heart in five minutes over the phone.
“I’m here as long as you need,” he murmurs, and you believe him.
You pull away slightly to look him in the face. “I love you,” you say.
He smiles, but only with his eyes as he swipes a thumb under your eye. “I love you too,” he says. “Don’t think I ever really stopped.”
It’s at that exact moment that the sun disappears behind a cloud and it begins to rain.

'𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩'| colby brock x male oc
a/n: enjoy ;) summary: sam, colby, corey and jake plan to go to the witches forest, little do they know, they’ll meet a friend of jennifers. he’s a lonely medium studying witchcraft, what happens when colby starts to feel a pull towards him? his feelings confuse him, and make him question himself.
words: 8.8k (TOO FUCKING MANY, i got lost in the sauce🫠)
sam sat on his couch, dialing the number of the woman him and colby met at the stanley hotel. the latter began to film as she picked up.
“hello?”
“hi is this jennifer?” they shared a look towards eachother, acknowledging the awkwardness.
“yes, this is she.”
“sweet uh.. about that forest, was that a legit offer? colby and i have been talking over the past few weeks and maybe.. are you in la now?” he asked, curiously.
“yeah i am”
“cool so maybe tomorrow or later this week we could meet up, and we’d probably be filming it so if that’s cool with you, you could tell us more like about what the forest is and then maybe like find time to schedule to go out there or something?”
“yeah we can meet up.” jennifer said ominously.
“okay cool, maybe tomorrow we’ll schedule a time then.” sam started to laugh from the awkwardness, and immediately after the phone call was over he threw the phone onto the table and freaked out. “why is it so awkward?” he cringed.
“everytime we talk to her.” colby chuckles.
they both start talking to the camera about their plans with the witches forest, and planning a whereabouts for the meetup.
a day had past, and sam, colby and jake were in the car, driving to the area where they were supposed to meet up with jennifer. colby had parked very close to another car in attempts to not be in the way of someones driveway. “can’t park in this driveway brother, gonna get a ticket.”
“can’t go to jail again.” sam laughs.
“we’re in a neighborhood, it’s not that sketchy.” sam commented, as they all start talking about how creepy this whole situation was, joking about getting murdered.
they walk into the park, and they look around until they see two people sitting at a park bench. “hey!” sam calls out, as he sees them. “nice to see you again!” he goes in for a hug with jennifer.
“how was the shoot and everything?” he asked.
“it was good.” she responded, nodding her head, before looking over to her friend, the guy next to her. jennifer didn’t really care about meeting up with strangers but elias, found it sketchy, so he decided to come along as some sort of backup.
“hey, i’m elias, good to meet you.” he shook hands with the person closest to him, colby.
“nice to meet you too.” colby smiled, curious about the guy infront of him. he looked pretty cool, his sense in fashion was definitely something out of a vintage movie. his hair was dark brown, about medium length. he had brown circle glasses pushed towards his nose, contrasting his freckled face.
from what he was wearing, you could see a few tattoos under his sleeves, along with a few different ear piercings. ‘damn this guy is cool’ he felt like some kind of fangirl.
as sam talked to jennifer, colby starting asking questions to the other. “are you also into the paranormal?”
“yeah. i grew up around it my entire life, and now it just seeks me out i guess.” he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “how’d you get into it?”
“that’s the same as one of my friends, corey.” he acknowledges. “honestly it’s not that exciting, me and my buddy sam would explore like abandoned places and stuff then it became haunted areas and now we think we’re haunted.”
“that’s cool.” suddenly jake climbs onto the picnic table, creating a thud sound. “jesus jake.” colby laughed.
“so do you guys chill at the park often?” jake tries to make conversation with the two.
“yeah.” they answer at the same time. the camera is held facing jennifer as she begins to explain why the cabin is haunted, and why it’s called the witches forest.
“you really have to figure it out yourself.” elias commented, chuckling.
“so you’ve been there too?” sam interrogates him.
“you could say that, i also own a cabin about a mile out.”
“would you say it’s haunted?”
“oh definitely, in 1946 a couple moved into the cabin and after a few years they started like experiencing financial issues, and it caused a lot of stress between them and eventually the husband started drinking, and one night he killed his pregnant wife before shooting himself in the head.” elias smirked, watching their jaws drop. “let’s just say i’m not legally able to rent it out anymore because of what happened to the last guests we had.”
“holy shit.” sam looked to the guys, with wide eyes.
“that’s actually insane.” colby said, rubbing his eye. “so do you live there or just use it as a vacation spot?”
“bit of both honestly, the spirits don’t bother me much. i was just there a few days ago and i stayed about three months, left with tons of scratches and stuff.” elias explained.
“do you still have visible marks?”
“yeah, the longest one is on my leg, i can show you if you like.” the guys nodded, so he stands up and props his leg on the park bench, before rolling up his black pants. quickly a red shiny scratch is visible. it starts at his ankle and goes underneath his thigh. “it’s one of the weirder marks i’ve gotten. it’s shiny and feels almost like a burn, like blistered over and stuff.”
“holy shit, that’s crazy.” jake muttered.
“i don’t know if we should do this anymore.” colby laughs, jokingly crying.
“so on a scale of one to ten, how is this a good idea or are we going to die.” sam wondered.
“let’s just say it’s scarier then the stanley hotel.” jennifer answered.
“is that the key?” jake zooms into colby holding the key to the cabin. colby pauses for a second, having an idea. “would you let us see your cabin?” he asks to elias.
“uhh, i don’t know, i would have to be there to supervise.” “not just because i don’t know you, but also for you’re protection. the spirits know me well, even the negative ones, they don’t like other people.”
“jesus.” colby mumbles. “is that why you can’t rent it out anymore.” he nods slowly.
“we have a friend out there that we met from the summer camp thing. a few of them are still there. elias can probably get in contact with one of them to help you out. since they’re both wiccans.”
“so you’re friend is a... wait you’re a wiccan?” sam asks towards elias, pointing the camera in his direction, receiving a half nod.
“after i became a medium it slowly transitioned into exploring witchcraft, i wouldn’t like 100% consider myself a wiccan but i do partake in that stuff.” he holds up his pagan necklace.
“wow, so does your friend live around the cabin?”
“yeah.”
“now i see why it’s called witches forest.” sam laughed hesitantly.
“so a lot of people there are wiccans i’m assuming?” colby asks, before receiving a nod. “witches forest, wiccans.” he does a weird voice to express how crazy this situation is.
“this is awesome, thank you so much for this, we would probably just of done another hotel video.” sam thanked her. “should we call corey?” he asks to the guys.
everyone begins to say goodbye, colby hugging jennifer and elias. “we’ll let you know how it goes.”
“but uh, i just wanted to say, i haven’t been there in awhile so be careful.” jennifer calls out to them.
jennifer and elias start walking back to their apartment. he glances towards the group they had just encountered. “they seem cool, colby’s pretty nice.”
“yeah i guess. i’m surprised you didn’t give them the key.”
“first, they’re strangers, second, they seem like novices, i don’t want their deaths to be on my hands.” elias joked.
“you could’ve gone with them.” she shrugs. elias pauses for a moment, thinking about it. maybe he should. they are trying to find the most haunted areas..
“i’ll think about it.”
it was early morning of the next day, and elias had been messaging with colby since he woke up talking about whether or not he should go up with them. colby has been trying to persuade him, borderline begging him to come. they think it would be awesome for the video and their paranormal experience.
and secretly colby just wants to get to know him as well.
the four boys were in their car, on the way to the first house, to talk to a wiccan who is offering a reading, and more information on the witches forest.
“i was thinking about what the physic said a lot last night, about how corey and i are in danger, and i think they could be right. i hope we have service because we’ve never been in this forest, who knows, like what if we get lost right? that’s why i think bringing elias, who knows the area could be helpful.”
“honestly yeah, and he seems like a cool dude so.” jake shrugs, agreeing with the idea. corey then calls and agrees to come, making everyone so much more relieved.
“let’s just act like we’re going to a cabin in the woods.” corey says, trying to lighten the mood as he gets into the car.
they keep on driving, about twenty minutes out, pulling over only to get jake some food because he kept complaining about being hungry. they pull into a burger king, and grab some food. colby suggests sitting at a table so he can fill both corey and the viewers in about elias and the other wiccan.
“just to catch everyone up, we got some food and we are ten minutes away from the forest!” sam starts it off.
“i’ve been texting with both this wiccan and elias, who agreed on meeting us, but they want to meet us at her house. she was just like ‘yeah swing by, and i’ll show you my tarot cards and stuff.’”
“well, let’s hope we don’t die.”
they walk out to the parking lot, and talk a bit more, explaining to corey. “me, colby, and jake met up with jennifer and this new guy, elias, so the reason why he’s texting to this random wiccan is because they’re friends, them two would meet up with her at summer camp, and she’s going to tell us about the area.” sam said.
as they start driving, they encounter the fog of the mountains, and they struggle to see out the window.
“yeah, elias is going to be with the wiccan, so atleast it’s not like we’re by ourselves with a complete stranger.” colby mentioned.
“well we don’t really know him either.”
“better then completely alone though.” he shrugged, continuing to drive until google maps said he was at the correct address.
“so what have they told you?” sam asked.
“nothing really, just gave us the address and said see you then.” colby explained, shutting the car door. they walked up to the door, not even having to knock before someone opened the door. “hey colby!” elias said, arm on the door.
“yoo hey.” colby gave a hug before smiling. “thanks for taking up our offer on this, having you here and talk about some of the stuff is super great for the video.”
colby felt nervous, seeing elias stand confidentially at the door, he looked more relaxed today, grey sweatpants, black hoodie and his usual brown glasses. you can tell he wasn’t planning on coming.
in the light, it was much easier to see his face. he also realized elias’ hair was slightly curly.
“yeah it’s no problem.” elias said as the other wiccan presented herself. “good to see you again.”
“hey, how are you guys?” she asked. “wanna come in? if you don’t mind i’ll have to sage you though.”
“yeah it’s no problem.”
after the boys were saged, they sat around the table and began to talk about the witches forest. “so why is it called witches forest?” sam asked, getting down to business.
“there’s a lot of rituals that go on in this area, it used to be a spot with mobsters, there’s a lot of satanic rituals, which aren’t as bad or evil as you would think.” elias nods along, agreeing with her.
“so you guys would consider yourselves wiccans in the way that you both study witchcraft.
“yes, i identify as a wiccan, but i feel like it has a different perception of what you would think.”
“okay so can you explain that to us.” sam asked.
“i like to live my life by the moon cycles, so full moon would be a time of like creativity and energy, where as new moon is more introspective and..” she trails off as the door opens for the second time.
“we’re trying to spend the night here, in the forest. do you think that’s a good idea or bad idea?”
elias grimances, shaking his head.
“what’s that supposed to mean?!” corey fake cries.
“a lot of people have died up there.. not recently so i don’t think you’ll die.” she says positively. “if you want we can do a little tarot reading.” she suggests, waving over elias to help her with it.
“tarot reading?” colby repeats asking for clarification.
“tarot cards really tell you what you’re feeling subconsciously, and they help give insight into the past, your future, or the present. and basically however you relate to the card, it tells you what’s going on with your inner-self or stuff you may be doing.” he explains, before sageing the cards.
“this basically helps to detach anything thats holding onto the cards, so for example, the past readings she’s done, it’s possible that those readings could effect yours. so when i sage the cards, it clears anything on them.” he hands over the cards to colby, who passes them to sam, to jake and then to corey, to get their presence onto the cards.
she takes the cards and sets them onto the table. a few gasps come from the guys after seeing the death card, “none of these are bad, so don’t be afraid.”
“the tower is an iffy card in my opinion, so it means danger and destruction, it’s basically like a very sudden unforeseen change, which means you have to rebuild. it can lead to the next chapter of your life. so it starts out negative and eventually it leads to rebuilding which is positive.” elias explains.
“yeah and chaos isn’t always a bad thing, which relates to the death card.” she taps onto it.
“the next chapter of my life is death?” sam asked.
“no.” elias answered shortly. “the death card will almost never mean death or represent anything like that. it’s typically more like the end of an era, so it implies new beginnings. it also is commonly known as the card that describes self awareness.” he was briefly interrupted by a bang upstairs.
“this card is all about fear and anxiety.” she points out. “but not a real fear, more like you’re worrying about something too much. like it’s in your head, like when you can’t sleep and you’re terrified but it’s not something that you should be worrying about. it’s more like you’re imagining something, like making up a problem.”
“like making conspiracy theories about yourself.” jake adds in, earning weird looks from colby and sam.
“just being scared of something that isn’t that big of a deal, like you’re more afraid then you need to be.” elias adds.
“that’s basically our group.” sam comments.
they talked more about the different chapters of their life, corey refusing to do more tarot. she gave more advice on how to keep the guys safe at their campsite, like taking the sage, having a ring of salt and holding hands.
elias watches as they huddle into the corner of the room and talk about some of their plans together. “honestly guys, i don’t know if i can do this.” corey admits. “this shit is crazy, we don’t need more spirits trapped with us.”
“i think we just have to hurry up because it’s a few hours from sundown, and we don’t know the area too well, i don’t want us to get lost.” sam comments.
“do you think we should invite elias?” colby asked.
“brother, now why would we do that.” corey said, shaking his head.
“he knows the area, and i think he would be awesome for content, he can tell us more stories, we can get to know him and maybe do more ghost stuff with him in the future.”
“i’m down.” jake shrugs.
“we don’t know him very well, but i do think he’d be beneficial for this.” sam doesn’t seem to care that much.
“okay well i won’t invite him if you guy’s arent sure.” they all to look corey.
“fine, but i swear to god if he murders us, i’m going to murder you again.”
“okay awesome!” colby walks away from the guys and up to elias. “i was wondering if you wanted to come with us, like to our campsite.”
“oh. uhh, i mean i guess i could hang for a bit, but it would probably be weird to stay the night with you guys. my cabin isn’t too far away in the forest so i’ll go back there once you guys are settled in.”
“we’d be chill if you wanted to stay the night in a tent beside us or something, but it’s cool if not.”
“i’ll figure it out later.” he shrugs, and follows the guys to the car. elias sits in the passenger seat, sam giving it up to sit in the back, so he didn’t have to sit squished next to strangers.
they began to drive in the direction of witches forest, taking a right turn onto a gravel road.
“so where do you suggest us staying the night exactly?”
“well i would say definitely be near one of the main roads, so you’re near your car, but as in area, if you keep going down here, there’s some pretty flat ground with trees surrounding it.” elias points in the right direction.
they pull into a blank area, and start gathering their stuff. “just down this way.” he leads, while helping carrying one of their bags.
“awesome, thank you.” sam thanks him, actually kind of surprised how much this stranger was helping them.
“do you need help setting up your tent, or?” he wondered.
“uhh..” jake mumbled, knowing he’s never put up a tent in his life.
“that is a possibility.” sam chuckles. ”so like, did you group up in california or elsewhere?” he took what colby said earlier, about getting to know him, and ran with it.
“oh uh, no i grew up in a small town out of seattle, but i moved to la when i was 17.” elias answered, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
“oh cool. why’d you leave seattle?” jake asked.
“just bad memories i guess.” he took a deep breath. “the house i grew up in.. my brother he died there when i was 6. his death brought me into the paranormal world.”
“oh, i’m sorry for your loss.” colby commented, beginning to build the tent.
“don’t be.” elias laughed it off. “it was a pretty natural death, he was born with heart complications, honestly a miracle he lived till 14. he was very positive and i’m sure he wouldn’t want people mourning, so i choose not to i guess.”
“that’s a good way to look at it.” colby smiled at the other. colby took a liking to him, he wasn’t sure why though but it felt like something was pushing him to get to know him.
“so you said you’re a medium?” corey asked, helping colby with the tent.
“yeah, the thing with my brother, it guided me to other spirits and i just kind of fell into it all. i feel things more the most people, i hear more, i sense more.” he paused. “i don’t feel any presences here but i feel sadness and regret.”
“that’s honestly really cool, so to become a medium does it need to be something that happens to you or can you like learn and study to become one?” colby asked, setting up the camera on a camping chair, pointed to elias.
“in my opinion it has to come to you, you can’t work for it. if you are gifted with the ability you can learn and study to enhance it but you can’t force it.”
“the tent’s looking good.” corey nodded towards it. “but i swear to god i don’t want to sleep here.” he begs, making everyone laugh.
once everything was set up, and looking good, elias decided to leave. “i’ll probably head up to the cabin.” he says, rubbing the back of his neck.
“yo, you sure?” jake asks, actually wanting him to stay. in the past few hours they’ve all been vibing pretty hard.
“yeah no pressure to leave.” colby said, giving him a smile.
“i don’t wanna intrude too much on your video or anything, but feel free to come to the cabin if you have any problems or something crazy happens. can’t promise staying at the cabin will be any better but still. i have wifi, hot water, beds, all that stuff so don’t be shy.” elias smiled back.
“alright, thank you.” sam nodded.
“make sure to say goodbye before you leave though!” elias called out, as he walked away.
“bye!” colby shouted.
“cya!” jake yelled.
“dude, you’re staring.” corey pointed out, laughing at his friend. colby turned to look at him, before rolling his eyes.
“shut up, i just think he’s cool.”
corey winked to sam and jake, them chuckling to eachother.
it was hours later, maybe 3 or 4, and elias was in his cabin, drinking a glass of wine, while reading one of the books from the old bookshelf. his days here were simple. he’d tend to the plants, garden, read some books and drink wine. he wish he had a more extroverted life, and would sometimes regret missing out on opportunities. such as hanging out with the guys back at the campsite.
he wondered why he didn’t just stay, when they were clearly okay with him there, but he was still unfortunately a stranger. they were okay with him there, but they didn’t want him there.
‘god i need friends’, he thought. he’s been so lonely, his only friend being jennifer, and they weren’t all that close anymore since he’s started studying witchcraft. elias has only had a few friends in his lifetime, people thinking he’s weird or abnormal for his interests and gifts, and he’s only been in one relationship which ended around 6 months.
he honestly hasn’t felt that interested in people, elias finds them too generic, but he did take interest in the group. no matter how goofy they all seemed, they were cool. especially colby, he seemed to care the most. and he was kinda cute so that’s a plus. but he was probably straight.
he paused, hearing a bang upstairs, before sighing. his only friends are the spirits of the forest. he took his glasses off and gave them a rub, as they got a bit foggy.
‘maybe a bath will ease my mind’ as he began to run a bath he heard a scream for help. his eyes widened at the voice, that was definitely colby.
“help!” it was a gut-retching scream. elias turned off the bath, and as he was running to the front door, he turned the outside lights on, immediately lighting up the area.
“colby?!” he called out, opening the door.
“elias?!” suddenly, he came into view. “holy fuck, thank god.” he sighed, relieved. he rushed to the door.
“what the hell happened out there? where is everyone?”
“i-i i got lost, i don’t know where i am, i was chasing after a shadow and i thought sam and jake were after me but i went in circles and i walked for so long it’s been like 15 minutes and i don’t know where they are.”
“woah, colby are you hurt?” elias reaches out to the others side, seeing a few smaller scratches. he gently touches them, earning a hiss out of colby.
“ouch.” he chuckles. “anyways, i really need help finding them, i don’t know what the fuck happened.”
“you said you saw a shadow figure? was it just a shadow or were there any visible descriptions?”
“just a shadow.” he shrugs, shivering a bit.
“theres been a few people spotting shadows around here, a lot of people think one of the main shadows, it’s of a larger male and it’s predicted that it’s the spirit of the husband i told you guys about earlier, and that he’s stuck in this forest as punishment.”
“jesus.” colby exhales.
“here, come in for a second, i’ll get you a heavier jacket and i’ll get a bandage for your side.”
“oh, thank you so much.” colby rubs his neck, awkwardly standing in the others home. “this cabin is actually beautiful.” he said, not expecting it.
“haha yeah, i take pride in it. nobody ever is here to see how gorgeous the wood and plants are.”
“oh why’s that?”
“i just don’t have many friends.” elias said, while grabbing a few items. “gets lonely up here.”
“hey well, you can consider us friends, i think you’re cool as hell.” colby smiles, taking the jacket, and putting it over his shoulder. “it would be awesome to have you come with us to other haunted places.”
“i-” elias was about to decline, before he thought for a minute. he knew he would regret declining. “sure, why not.” he gestured for colby to move his arm so he could wrap his side.
“that should do it.” he gave him a pat on the shoulder. “now, we really have to get you back to your friends, they’re probably freaking out.”
“yeah.” colby agreed, rubbing his side.
“do you mind if i spend the night with you guys? i have a feeling.. like i can feel something bad in your future, and i don’t think it’s safe for you guys alone.”
“oh god..” colby sighed, not ready for whatever he’s talking about. elias grabbed a few more things, and shoved it into a backpack. “it would be appreciated if you stayed with us.” he laughed it off, pretending he didn’t care too much, but he actually felt pretty nervous about the idea.
he’s never really found guys that attractive or anything but something about elias, it wasn’t even his looks, something about his personality or dare he say ‘spirit’ was alluring. colby just needed to know more, needed to get close to him.
“okay, let’s go.” he said, turning off the house lights, and turning on his flashlight.
they walked through the forest, trying to avoid all of the unnerving noises they heard. “thank you.” elias said quietly.
“what? why?”
“because, today has been the most social interaction i’ve had in awhile.” he chuckled. they continued to walk in peaceful silence, colby instinctively walking closer to elias. they smiled to eachother, elias having to look away and blush out of sight. ‘jesus, what is happening to me.’
they walked a bit more, and finally began to see bright lantern lights, similar to colby’s. “guys!” he shouted.
“no way, colby!” corey shouted, running straight to him out of relief.
“guys!”
“holy shit it’s colby!”
“colby!”
“what the fuck happened to you.” sam shook his head. they all looked closer and saw another person. as they got closer they realized it was elias.
“holy shit.” corey exclaimed.
“are you okay bro?” jake asked.
“the shadow person, i kept chasing it, i saw it again. it ran so i ran after it, i ended up going in circles and i got lost so i started screaming for help and i saw a cabin, thank god it was elias’.
“did you hear the scream? it was like a female scream.” sam explained.
colby went to sit in a chair, his side aching. “no i didn’t, i scratched my side though.” he lifted his shirt to show the bandage.
“dude, me and jake saw like a baby or something small hung.” sam said.
“bro, i looked at it, and my first thought was that it was a baby hanging, it was swaying and everything.”
“wait.. you said you saw a baby hanging?” elias looked at them in pure shock. “holy fuck.. you saw her.” he mumbled.
“what?” sam asked, eyes wide.
“what the fuck is going on.” corey shouted.
“the.. the story i told you guys, about the husband killing his pregnant wife. a few people i rented the cabin out to, they would see shadows of a hanging dead baby outside the windows.”
“holy fuck!” corey screamed, jumping before walking a few steps away.
“that is fucking crazy.” jake exclaimed, holding onto his head.
“i can’t believe this.” sam held the camera, beginning to shake. “okay, a rule, we can’t separate again.”
they began to talk about what the shadow could’ve been, talking about the biker kids they had seen earlier in the day.
“it definitely was not a biker, you would’ve heard it a mile away, and nobody just goes for a walk in the middle of the night.” elias shakes his head in disbelief at the situation.
“i’m not staying out here any longer.” jake says, running into the tent. everyone else begins to pack away their stuff, making sure that if they got scared again, they could leave without having to worry about their scattered belongings.
sam pulls out the camera once everything is put away, and gives the viewers a quick update. “just a little update guys, we did clean up our entire campsite, and now we’re going to chill in here for a little bit, because we don’t know what’s out here.” he gestures inside the tent.
“is it alright if i stay here? i don’t feel like walking back to the cabin.” he asks.
“oh yeah of course.” sam practically invites him in. “you’ll just have to deal with our gross selves.”
“i think i’ll be fine, i was a babysitter for 3 years of my life.” he joked, earning laughs from everyone.
a small fight ensues about sleeping bags with the guys, and elias sits off to the side of the tent, not wanting to get too close and make anyone uncomfortable. he watches as colby pokes around at corey’s pocket.
“brotherrrr, scared the fuck outta me.” corey cries out. “it’s either colby hitting on me again or a ghost.” elias laughed at that.
“i like to use shrek’s belly as a pillow.” jake mumbles, away from the drama.
a few minutes go by, and bugs in the tent frighten elias, while sam and colby start swatting at them before jake and corey talk about the white people face. elias, guilty of making that face more then once tonight.
the rest of the night was filled with fivesome jokes, jake playing with shrek into the camera, dance parties, sam touching more spiders in the tent, and colby trying to rest his eyes.
he originally laid near corey, between him and elias. he was resting on the end of his sleeping bag, feeling exhausted with the night so far. after another bug was squashed, they placed the camera back in the center of everyone.
elias was the closest to the camera, slightly out of frame, colby close by, corey leaning to the front, jake beside him, and sam on the other side also out of frame. “who keeps farting?” colby asked jokingly annoyed.
“yo what is that smell bro.” colby started cringing, holding his nose, causing everyone to laugh, corey the most.
“who farted dude?” jake commented about the smell looking towards sam.
“i don’t smell anything.” he shrugged carelessly, elias agreeing with him.
“yeah cause it was you!”
“someone ripped ass, and it was me two minutes ago.” corey revealed, laughing like a madman.
“my face was right by your asshole!” colby shouted, making a disgusted face to the camera before slowly shuffling away from the guy, and closer to elias. he dramatically collapsed onto elias’ leg and begged him not to do the same.
colby found his leg oddly comfortable, holding onto it like a pillow. he didn’t want to get too over the top and make elias uncomfortable, so tried to stay away from the boys lap.
then, it was back to jake putting shrek up to the camera, pretending to ring an imaginary doorbell.
“look guys, stop recording if we’re actually going to fuck.” corey pulled his sleeping bag over his face.
“yeah i don’t wanna be on camera.” elias said, holding his hands up, making everyone snicker. it was kind of awesome how they could go from complete strangers, thinking eachother was creepy, to then making jokes like this.
speaking of jokes, everyone made comments about colby and how he was sleeping all cuddly on the other, and god was it unbearable.
it was awkward, and uncomfortable but oddly enough, the friendly teasing felt better then being alone, so he dealt with it, and listened to corey’s little story about the boys and the shadowman.
suddenly, noises started getting louder. exhales, footsteps, bangings. corey felt uncomfortable, and kept demanding to leave the tent. everyone paused, trying to listen to the surrounding sounds, sam hearing a car, and elias hearing thuds.
“yo, should we just try to go to sleep?” colby asked, genuinely really tired.
“uh, no.” corey answered like it was obvious
elias felt the need to interrupt. “listen, the noises are obviously scary and whatever, but you need to understand that you guys are overthinking. think back to the tarot cards. you are scaring yourselves.” he tried to explain, as a way to calm them down.
it definitely didn’t work, corey hearing another exhale, and telling everyone to get out of the tent as a safety precaution.
eventually everyone began to rush out of the tent, into darkness, sam screaming for someone to get a light. elias put on his glasses, and grabbed a flashlight, pointing it around the camp.
he heard rustling coming from a near bush and started walking up to it, he peeked around trying to find what the noise could’ve been. “elias, hurry up!” sam called, as everyone began running to the car.
he caught up to them, not caring anymore and jumping in the back with jake and corey. “holy fuck.” he exhaled. “where are we going?”
“jennifer’s cabin.” corey replied, nodding at the idea.
sam’s phone started to ring as colby was driving on a tight road. “yo, yo, look!” he answered the call, everyone hearing absolute gibberish. it was random noises, deep exhales and other strange noises.
“that sounds like someone fucking with us.” colby stated, as sam talked about telling all his friends he was coming here.
“holy shit, i don’t think it’s someone pranking you guys.” elias stared, wide eyed at his phone before holding it up so everyone could see.
“fuck.” jake muttered. “answer! answer!”
elias answered the call, putting it on speaker phone. the sounds coming from his call was much different from sam’s. these, sounded like chants, as if a huge group of people were shouting into the phone, cursing the boy. “guys, what the fuck is this.” he had experienced everything, but never has he gotten no caller id calls, with scary ass chants. “are you fucking with me right now?” he asked the group, tears welling in his eyes.
“no! no! of course not!” colby assured him. “we don’t do shit like that.”
he pulled into the driveway of jennifer’s cabin, immediately opening the doors and seeing the pouring rain. at the door, jake started shaking the water off of him, complaining about being wet.
quickly, elias could see sam was struggling. he was digging through his bag trying to find the key. he was beginning to panic, and everyone was starting to realize.
“wait you don’t have the key?” corey questioned, getting nervous. “sam.” he sighed.
“was it in your pockets or the backpack?” colby asked.
“when do you remember last having it?” jake watched as sam patted his pockets.
“n-no i had it today, i showed the girl that jennifer gave me the key.” he defended. “here, just check the car, i swear, i have it.”
“really try to remember, did you put it in your bag or your pockets?” colby kept pushing.
sam frantically looked around the car as the others judged him, complaining and blaming him for losing the key. “hey honestly sam, don’t worry about it, it’s just a mistake.” elias tried to reassure him everything was fine, only for corey to say something.
“i thought.. it’s either here or in the backpack.. unless is it in our bags? should we check the trunk?” everyone was freaking out, and elias stood there awkwardly watching. he felt bad for sam.. he could feel the sadness and guilt dripping off of him.
“we need this key. we can’t get in. dude jennifer trusted us with this key, you can’t-”
“is this the only key?” “sam, are you fucking serious, dude. i’m not trying to be rude, but first you lowkey lost colby, and now you don’t have the key. i’m just saying, this is why i don’t like doing this type of shit.” corey raised his voice.
jake and corey agreed they didn’t want to go back to the tent, as colby kept filming. elias took a breath before saying excuse me and pulling sam to the side.
sam looked confused, but his guilt was overtaking it. “what?” he looked at the other, wondering why he dragged him a few feet away.
“dude, don’t listen to them, losing the key, like i said is a simple mistake, any of them could have done it, they’re not upset at you, they’re just upset at the cirumstances. but you’re forgetting i have a place just a few minutes away.” elias tried calming him down, seeing tears well in his eyes. he could tell sam wasn’t one that could deal with being yelled at.
“it’s not anything big, it’s a two bedroom with a pull out couch.” elias shrugged. “please just accept my offer, alright?” sam nodded, wiping any sort of water away from his eyes.
“thank you elias, really.” sam suddenly grabbed onto him, giving him a side hug.
“no worries.” he smiled, leading him back to the car, before they explained the plan to the others. everyone could see the disappointment in sam’s eyes, as he sat quiet in the passenger seat.
jake whispered to elias, about what happened out there, him shaking it off as to say it was private. he guides colby down the different roads, and in a few minutes they were outside his cabin.
“here we are!” he welcomes them inside, turning all the lights on.
“shit this is nice.” corey nodded, jumping onto the couch.
“woah woah, take your dirty ass boots off.” elias joked, watching as he threw them off in the direction of the door.
“thank you so much for having us here.” sam smiled, setting his bag down.
“really, don’t worry about it, i’m glad you’re here and not outside.” elias took their stuff and organized it by the doors. “okay so, there’s two bedrooms, you guys can take those if you want, i don’t mind sleeping on the couch.”
“hell no.” colby laughed, refusing to have him give up his own room in his own house.
“mkay whatever, someone can sleep in my room with me i guess, because trust me the couch is very uncomfortable to sleep on. plus the rooms are much safer. the living room is the scariest, you’ll hear the most shit out here.” he chuckled. “you guys can look around if you want, also feel free to eat anything you find, and use the wifi, passwords on the fridge.” he yawned. “i’m going the fuck to bed.”
the guys chuckled, taking him up on that offer.
for over half an hour, they decided to eat some of the snacks in his fridge, and taking crackers from the pantry. “god i was so hungry.” jake moaned into the leftover burger he was eating.
“okay guys, take it easy, we aren’t trying to raid their food.” colby snickered, watching as his friends ate like hungry rats.
“yeah good point.” sam took a handful of crackers and put the box back. “should we talk about sleeping arrangements?”
“there’s no fucking way i’m sleeping on the couch or anywhere in the living room after what he said.” corey stated, heading into the direction of the guest bedroom.
“yeahh, me neither.” jake followed after him.
“so.” colby shrugged. “do you care where you’re sleeping tonight?”
“not really, i’ve gotten to know elias pretty well so it doesn’t really matter to me.” the brunette squints at him.
“what did you guy’s talk about?” he questions.
“honestly, when he pulled me aside i was shocked. he like saw how overstimulated i was with the whole situation and he completely calmed me down, comforted me and everything.” he threw his arms as he was talking.
“yeah, i’m sorry about that, we were all just frustrated about the key.”
“don’t worry about it.” sam smiled. “are you and elias getting close? you were like all over him, sleeping back at the tent.” he was genuinely curious, considering he hasn’t seen his friend like this in awhile.
colby paused, thinking about everything that’s happened tonight. “honestly... i don’t know, it’s been really weird for me. i’m so confused with what im feeling.” he shook his head, so unsure.
“hm, i’ll go sleep with corey and jake.” they both nodded to that. “goodnight colby!” sam called out, walking in the same direction as the others did.
colby slowly approached elias’ room, pushing open the door gently. both bedside table lights were on, followed by a few candles around the room. he could see that the other boy was still awake. “oh hey.” he put down his book.
“hey elias. thought you were going to bed?”
“i was, heard some loud munchers in my kitchen though.” he giggled, as colby apologized. “no, honestly it’s okay, i was actually surprised how fast you guys decided to come to bed.”
elias yawned once more, stretching his arms out on the bed. “i can either sleep on the floor, make a little bed and shit, or if you’re cool i’ll just stay on the right of the bed.”
“literally don’t worry about it, not the first time i’m sleeping with a dude-” he paused, cutting himself off. “god that sounded bad.” he laughed, blushing with embarrassment.
“wouldn’t be my first time either.” elias smirked, blowing a fake kiss before wheezing at their dumb jokes.
colby moved closer, setting his personal backpack down and folding his jacket on the table. he shuffled towards the bed, and sat ontop of it. “i have no idea if i’m going to sleep tonight.” he sighed.
“that’s fair. it’s crazy out here. if you want we can just stay up and talk for awhile?”
“actually.. that would be nice.” colby rubbed the back of his neck. in was silent for a few seconds, him getting comfortable under the covers. “so..”
“how did you like the witches forest? scary enough for you guys?” the other asked, trying to start a good conversation.
“oh definitely one of the scariest places we’ve been to, like with the history of it and everything.”
“what other places have you been to?”
“uhh the stanley hotel, the biltmore, queen mary, cobb estate, griffin park, and we’ve explored so many creepy places, like morgues and abandoned hospitals.” colby explained.
“geez, no wonder you guys are haunted.” he laughs.
“do you think we are? we joke about it but im genuinely curious if we are.”
elias thinks for a minute. “i don’t think you’re haunted. however, i can sense something with you. with you and corey. whatever is following you, is completely different then what is attached to corey. notice the different in words.” he points out. “i think you have gotten yourself into many negative situations, not just paranormal.” “would you consider yourself lonely, or sad?”
colby exhaled shakily. “yes, sometimes.”
“spirits love following people that are lonely, they find them to be like easy prey, vulnerable.” he emphasizes the last word. elias closes his eyes, really focusing on colby’s presence. “i think the spirit that is with you is also lonely. they are following along with you, because you are feeding into it, giving it attention. and that’s fine, but if you don’t want it with you, you have to make it clear.”
“is it friendly?” he asked.
“yes. it’s friendly. i can’t tell you where you picked this spirit up, but it’s positive, and enjoys your company. it will not hurt you-” he stops, feeling something float by him. “it will not hurt you, it doesn’t want to, that’s not it’s intent. infact, it wants to protect you. noises you might hear, when you go to a haunted area, it very well could be this spirit trying to assert dominance with other ones.”
“holy.” colby tried to calm his breathing. “this is crazy. as long as it’s friendly, then i welcome it.” “so, do you think corey’s ghost is like bad?”
“i wouldn’t say bad, but when i was sitting near him earlier, it isn’t as friendly as yours. it likes the fear that comes with scaring him, i’d even go as far as, it wants to scare him more, it wants to up it. and with that spirit challenging him, i am nervous for his health both physically and mentally.”
“jesus, i have to tell him that in the morning, he’ll probably freak.” he sighed. “it’s so cool how you can like sense this stuff, does it ever get overwhelming?”
“allll the time.” elias chuckles. “sometimes i can just be in a library back in la, and i’ll feel like some version of spirits and like all these weird emotions, and i have to leave.”
“wow i’m sorry that comes with such an amazing gift.”
“it’s okay, i feel at peace with it now. i think my brothers with me, helping me deal with it all. i think he realizes how alone i am, and has decided to follow me.” he laughs at himself. “sorry, sorry, let’s talk about something more fun.”
colby laughed along. “so do you have a girlfriend?” he wondered, making elias pause and blush lightly.
“no, i’m single.” “goes along with the loneliness, if you feel me.” he chuckled. “you?”
“same, it’s hard to date now that sam and i’s channel has blown up. a lot of people have tried to use me for like clout and stuff.” the other frowned at that, apologizing for his past experiences. “no, no it’s okay, i just hope i’ll find someone soon, i do feel you, it gets so lonely.” he fake cries.
elias sips his glass of wine, offering some to colby. “i’m a vodka and rum kinda guy.”
and soon enough, the boys were drinking, gossiping to each other about absolutely everything. colby was a very talkative drunk it seemed. he was blabbing about his friends, girls, ghosts, anything. “so like, are you gay?” he asked.
elias spat out his wine back into the glass before turning to colby. “uh wow..” he rubbed the back of his neck. “where did that come from?”
“i-i don’t know.” colby admitted, trying to hide himself with the blanket. he really didn’t know why he asked, his weird confused feelings mixed with being drunk just made him ask, he was so curious.
“i’m bisexual.. how’d you know i was into men?”
“i.. i didn’t.” colby mumbled into the blanket. he felt himself shaking, so nervous and anxious. he took a deep breath and exhaled aggressively before jolting up and looking right at elias. “i didn’t know you liked men but i think i do.” he rushed it out.
“i’ve never felt anything for a guy before so i’m pretty freaked out right now and-d confused but i think i like you.” he rubs his eyes, embarrassed and uh pretty drunk.
“wait really?” he paused for a moment. ‘holy shit’ he thought. he never would have expected this, he just thought colby loved being physical with his friends from all the touches earlier in the night.
seeing that his confusing feelings were being reciprocated, it made elias the happiest he’s been in awhile. “dude, i feel the same way.”
colby stopped, completely still. both boys were completely shocked at each others confessions.
“like i feel like i’ve known you for awhile.” elias commented.
“same.” he tried to think of what to say next, where to go from here.
“hey.” the other touched his arm. “don’t get too nervous about this whole situation, we have plenty of time to get to know eachother, plenty of time for you to figure out everything you’re going through.” “don’t feel pressured into anything.”
colby thought for a few minutes. “thank you, i appreciate it.” “it’s.. it’s so weird feeling like this. ever since i was younger i’ve been so convinced that i’m straight, and now i’m getting all these feelings for you and it’s honestly making me scared. what if i do like you? does that mean i have to come out? tell my friends, family and viewers? what if i don’t and this is just a mistake?”
“you can.. or we can figure it out one step at a time.” elias smiled. “and by the way, never feel pressured to come out, it’s a personal and heavy thing to do.”
he shivered, tears threatening to spill. it was such a vulnerable moment for him. elias reached out to the boy, offering a hug.
they shared a tight hug, elias rubbing his back out of comfort.
their moment was interrupted by an incredibly loud bang, and three loud screams from the guys in the other room. “colby!” one of them shouted.
they pulled apart from their hug, just as the three barged into their room. “did you fucking hear that, bro?!” sam questioned, before looking at the people in front of him. he acknowledged how close they were, the slight tears in colby’s eyes, how intimate the room lighting was, the wine, the white rum..
oh fuck, they just interrupted a moment.
the other two didn’t notice, too scared of the noises they’ve been hearing all night. “that was the loudest one yet!” jake announced.
“i’m not going back in there.” corey whined.
“we’ve been hearing shit over there, what about you?” sam asked, before mouthing a sorry to the two sitting in bed. elias smiled at the gesture, before trying to wipe off his smirk.
“nope.” colby shook his head, his eyes less red then a few minutes ago.
“it’s safer in here.” corey stated, setting down the pillow he brought from the other room, and curling into a ball onto the floor, making elias laugh.
“are we having a sleepover?” he asked.
“oh, fucking totally.” jake snickered, running back to the other room and grabbing every blanket and pillow he could.
sam made a gesture with his finger, calling over colby. he noticed and walked to the bathroom with him.
“uh, hey, sorry about that, we didn’t mean to interrupt you guys.”
“interrupt? you uh didn’t interrupt anything we were just talking.”
sam made a face, before nodding. it was his business, so when he wanted to tell him, he would, so he left it alone. “alright.. you ready for this sleepover?” he smiled.
“fuckkk yeahh.”
it had been over an hour, everyone was dead asleep, corey snoring. elias was the only one awake, he was too in thought to sleep. he watched over colby, who was laying right infront of him on the floor with the rest of the guys. they were each laying on both bed mattresses, covered in blankets, basically in a line.
he had been debating to put an arm around colby, but.. if they woke up like that he could expose colby to the rest of his friends, or atleast cause him to get teased.
after a bit, he decided to shuffle his left arm under colby, so it was less noticeable. he held the boy, smiling, before finally falling asleep.
he didn’t know this, but colby was awake the entire time, smiling, wondering what the frick he was gonna do about this goofy medium he found himself possibly falling in love with...

After four years away at collage, you’re finally home with the tools and knowledge to save your family ranch. That is, if their ranch hand would stay out of your way.
Or: Ranch hand Joel doesn’t know how to handle the return of his bosses prodigy daughter, her snarky little attitude, or her sinfully tight jeans.
a/n: this chapter gets me right in the feels every time. I love watching the way Joels character changes and his train of thought shifts. I hope you guys like this chapter because it was so fun for me to write 🥹❄️

Chapter 3: Blue
Tumblr media
As it turns out, extreme levels of dopamine in his brain after a bone chilling orgasm is exactly what Joel needs to level himself out while you’re sitting beside him in the passenger seat. It doesn’t make him stop thinking about it, but it does keep the tiny little gremlin in his head that tells him to pop a stiffy at bay. The only thing he has to worry about is his eyes, keeping them off of you and on the icy driveway as he pulls away from the house. The snow has started to melt, leaving behind a sloppy mud that makes the truck slip and slide. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to get your car out, even if I can I don’t think you’ll be able to drive it in this.”
You make an exaggerated groan and he doesn’t even need to look to know you’re rolling your eyes at him from your spot beside him on the bench seat. “You just love deciding what I can and can’t do, don’t you? You know I lived here my whole life right?” He dares a glance over and you’re staring at him with your eyebrows knitted together and your arms crossed. His eyes tick down and he wants to kick himself in the head for even looking because your shirt is leaving nothing to his imagination and little to wonder about how good they would look bare with his dick between—jesus christ, Joel, get yourself together Man. “I wasn’t doubting your ability, I’m suggesting that it would be dangerous for you to even try.”
The truck hits the pavement and most of the snow has melted, but the freezing temperatures leave a icy film across the top. He had to go easy on the breaks and hope to god the truck makes it up the inclines he has to take to get to your car. The last thing he needs is to be stuck out here in the cold with just your bodies to keep each other warm. He absolutely one hundred and ten percent wont survive that, not without absolutely humiliating himself. God, he fucking hates how much you affect him against his will.
“Since when do you care about what’s too dangerous for me, huh?” Why in the hell is he arguing with you like you’ve been married for twenty years? “You left me in the snow to freeze to death in my car four days ago, why am I going to listen to you about whats too dangerous for me?” You have a point, but so does he so he just shuts his fucking mouth and keeps on driving.
It takes twice as much time to get down the pass than it usually does, but the lower Joel gets, the more the ice melts into cold water and mud. By the time he gets to your car, the road is clear but the car is still sunk down to the rims in the embankment. Theres a uneasy sort of silence in the truck, something lingering around the cab of the old blue pickup that feels like shame and embarrassment.
“Texting, huh?” He breaks the silence with a crude joke that earns him a deep glare. “Fuck you, asshole. You know, I really don’t know what it is that my parents see in you. My mom always said how polite you were but I don’t believe that for a second after knowing you for a few days.” You prop open the door and climb out into the snow with your car keys in one hand and the other holding your unzipped jacket closed. Your stupid fucking shoes and that tight ass—fuck.
How is he supposed to be okay with the way you make his body react when you literally curse the ground he walks on, thinking he’s the worst thing that ever happened to this damn town? He gets out after you and slips on his gloves to keep the cold off his hands. The winter always leaves him cracked and brittle from cold work, sometimes his knuckles bleed and his bones ache for gentle hands instead of hard callouses and a cowboys scars. “You don’t know anything about me.” He reaches into the back for a chain while you open the door to your car. “I know enough. I know you’re bullheaded and selfish. I know you’re rude and you don’t care about anyone but yourself.”
Fucking bitch, like he’s not allowed to have some self preservation after the life he’s lived, always cleaning up Tommy's mess and abandoning his own life in the process. “Don’t act like you’re any better.” You lean out of your car and make a face at him while he hooks the chain to the front of the truck. “Me? You don’t know a damn thing about me.” Like you didn’t just spout off about all the things you think is wrong with him—he can do that too. He has a fucking list of reasons you piss him off. “I know that you’re entitled and expect people to be at your beck and call. I know you’re privileged with no regard for anyone around you.”
He follows the chain to your car and hooks it to the chassis underneath. “Well were just a match made in fucking heaven then, aren’t we?” Its dripping with distain and bitterness, so Joel ignores the comment no matter how much his brain runs and runs about all the way he could be made for you, the way’s he’d fuck that attitude right out of you until you’re quiet. But he can’t and he won’t, he’ll probably spend the rest of his life wondering what you’d feel like, the way you’d shake and scream and beg for more—but wondering is far as that fantasy will ever go.
Because at the end of the day, you’re still Hank's daughter and you’re still half his age and—you hate his guts, which is definitely a deal breaker when it comes to getting someone in your bed. So he keeps his mouth shut and heads back to his truck to tug your car out. “When you’re out, hit your brakes so you don't slam into me.” You sink down into your seat and glare at him. “I’m not stupid!” He never said you were, but he doesn’t expect you to know everything, so he does his best to be the helpful asshole he usually is.
He pulls the little car out, manages to keep the chain tight until it's back on the road and the brake lights come on in front of him. He puts the truck in park and hops out to unhook the chain, but you don’t open the door. When the car is unhooked, you’re already pulling away without a word of thanks. Joel knows he’s well past earning the way you treat him, but that doesn’t make him stop wishing he could just get you out of his head already, wish he could hate you with that same mind altering disgust that you have for him, maybe watching you drive away would be easier.
Tumblr media
Two months pass much like the first week. Joel keeps to himself, you frown at him and avoid him where you can. When you do see one another, Joel feels like you’re always at each other's throats. Everyone in the house has started to notice the distaste in your strained relationship, if Joel is willing to let himself call it that. It’s more like a forced acquaintance. Either way, your parents even see the way the two of you bicker and fight, but rarely does anyone but Tommy make comments about it. Tommy likes to bring it up any chance he gets, usually when Joel is alone just to rile him up further. He says stupid shit, like “I bet the sex you guys would have would be crazy good” when it’s just him and his brother at the dinner table and it makes Joel stiffen and run off to the cabin without his plate or a goodbye.
He sneaks in later for his plate and catches you in the kitchen with red eyes and tear stained cheeks, but you cross your arms over your chest and try not to meet his eyes. You’re dressed in just a big tee shirt and he can see from your bare feet to the tops of your thighs. He’s the luckiest son of s bitch in the world that he just worked himself over twice because he would be tenting his sweatpants right there in the kitchen.
That was three days ago and he still can’t get the sight of tears in your eyes out of his mind. He wonders if he did that, if he’d said something that struck a nerve and there you sat at the kitchen table after everyone was tucked in bed, crying your pretty eyes out. He feels like the worst fucking person in the world because of it, so he stays away even more, makes himself sad little ramen noodle dinners in his sad little hunting cabin he shares with his brother and he stares at his ceiling wishing it was you he was looking up at—smiling instead of frowning for once—all he wants is to see you smile. Really smile, for him, at him. He wonders what your eyes look up when they light up, wonders what your skin feels like when its not shaking in rage.
But between all the avoiding and hiding, Joel didn’t even realize how quickly Christmas had snuck up on him. He checks his phone sometime after lunch, his day spent getting the herd ready for another brutal snow storm. He’d been to town that morning for hot feed to keep them warm and any supplies they might run out of while snowed in, while deep, dark clouds hung in the distance. He was leaving the feed store when the clerk waved at him with a polite “Merry Christmas!” When he made it into the truck, he pulled out his phone and realized the date, December 24th. It was Christmas eve and it was an absolute miracle that stores were open right now. It was only eleven thirty and the sign posted on the door says it closes at two.
He starts to put the truck in reverse, turning around to look behind him while he pulls out. When he does, something inside of him doesn’t let his foot off the brakes. He thinks about you—in Christmas pajamas on the floor opening dumb little gifts from your parents because it's the first Christmas they’ve had with you for years. He imagines what they’d get you, probably things a grown adult needs—products, socks, underwear, (don’t even go there Joel) and he thinks about how disheartening that must be to a woman like you, used to proper city living now, expensive gifts and pretty things. You deserve pretty things, Joel wants to give them to you.
He turns around, throws the truck in park and jumps out, heading back into the feed store. He makes a bee-line for the glass jewelry case sitting in the corner, partially scavenged through since it is the day before christmas and all—he should have thought about this weeks ago. He scans through everything, shiny horse shoe earrings, matching pendants, jeweled cowgirl boots on a chain and turquoise ring sets. None of them look good enough, none of them scream you, sweet you—fuck, he’s seen it, when you’re so damn sweet, when you think no one is looking—Joel is, always looking.
He kneels down, scanning the bottom shelf of the case when he spots a simple golden chain and a bumble bee dangling delicately from its tiny hoops. It doesn’t have any stones on it and Joel thinks he likes that more, that it’s simple and graceful, not too flashy or obviously shoutings “look at what you do to me, look at how much I wish I could have you.”
In the end, he has just enough bills in his wallet for the necklace, tells the clerk he doesn’t need a bag as he stuffs the box in his pocket and heads back to the truck.
He has a busy day when he gets back to ranch, Tommy is checking on the pregnant heifers while Joel fill’s multiple feeders with hot grains that will keep them warm through the impending storm. He has just enough time before it starts to snow to get the horse fed and the equipment properly covered in tarps. This storm is set to drop more snow than they have seen all winter and Joel doesn’t look forward to the animosity that comes with never being able to get out of each other's hair. “How’s the heifers?” He asks Tommy when he brushes grain off his hands. “They all seem pretty far out besides one, she was really soft, sort of worried me.” Heifers get soft around the tail when they are close to caving, but Joel doesn’t think she’ll be willing to have her calf in this storm, so he lets it go. Instead, he takes a spot beside Tommy at the stable door.
“Snow’s comin’ down thick now,” Tommy says from the protective covering of the stable, staring out across the yard at the powder covered ground. Snow blows through the big sliding door, filling the building with cold gusts. “We should get inside before it gets worse.”
Joel wants to—when he looks off at the two story house, the christmas tree shining through the window, he spots you on the other side of it, fixing and ornament hanging from the nettles. The stable is a stone's throw from the house, Joel can see every feature, the color of your eyes, your sweet, sweet smile—because he’s nowhere to be seen.
He’s so busy staring, he doesn’t catch it in time when your eyes meet his across the yard. That sweet smile falls, those soft eyes harden and he feels his gut lurch. “You go ahead, Tommy. Think I’m going to hit the hay.” Tommy knows this bit just about as well as Joel does, knows he’s been avoiding the house, your parents, you because nine times out of ten, it’s just Tommy at dinner these days. Joel spends his night with microwaved meals and old episodes of The Rifleman to keep him busy until he finally gives in and slips his hands in his pants.
Tommy doesn’t put up a fuss, instead, he claps Joel on the shoulder and gives him this sad sort of smile before heading off towards the house. Joel turns in the other direction, follows the fence line for a half mile until he reaches the cabin. His feet are cold, his lips feel cracked after a long day outside in the harsh weather. He microwaves a sad little dinner, pretends the mac and cheese on the side is half as good as warm food at the table when the people he looks at like family. He’s simply not welcome there anymore.
He gets through two episodes before he promptly passes out, his pants left intact tonight because it’s not his dick leading the way tonight, its that look in your eyes when you saw him across the driveway. The pang he felt in his chest when you frowned and turned away like it hurt you to look at him.
He sleeps through the night, propped up like that on the couch and when he wakes on Christmas morning, his neck has a crick in it and his back is killing him. He barely drags himself off the couch and into the shower before his day has to start. The hot water eases out some of his muscles, but it still hurts like a bitch to stand up straight or turn his head.
But the cattle aren’t going to let him take a day off, the horses won't care for themselves, so he gets to it only a few minutes late. When he heads out the door, the ground is covered in two feet of pure white snow and dark clouds still hang overhead.
His Christmas is spent in the field’s and the stables and the box in his pocket burns a hole through his thigh the entire morning, until he’s shoveling off the driveway and the front door comes open. Louise makes her way onto the porch with a plate in her hands, shuffling down the slippery steps when she gets Joel’s attention. He tosses down the shovel and hurries over when she starts to wobble on the second step and nearly slips. He catches her arm and helps her steady before letting out a cold gust of air that fogs through the chill around him. “Miss Lou, what are you doin’ out here? It’s freezing.” She has a light coat on and her cheeks are red from the cold.
“You’re the one out here in the cold, Joel. It’s Christmas and you’re the only one working. Have you had a decent meal this week? I haven’t seen you at dinner in…well, I don’t know how long.” She’s the one reason Joel feels guilty for avoiding the house, in the years he’s lived here, she's always enjoyed cooking for them, she’d always tell him he couldn’t keep her dream alive if he was malnourished. He feels like that now, running on half the calories a man his size should be taking in and his mind is in a constant state of despair these days.
“Just needed some space is all, Ma’am, nothin’ you did.” He assures her, taking the plate carefully and helping her back up the steps. “I know it's not just that. My daughter can be really difficult sometimes…I know you two bicker. It’s a shame, really—I thought the two of you would hit it off.” That's the whole problem and what a shame it is that Joel can’t look at this woman’s daughter without thinking about all the ways he could have her, make her his. “Would you come inside? Hank and I got you something, he thought you would be in this morning but you never came. I'm sorry if your food is cold.”
He didn’t care if it was cold, his stomach hurt because he was so hungry, he'd eat it if it was frozen. He doesn’t have the heart to tell her no, so he heads inside the house with snow covered boots and a nervousness he hasn’t felt here since the first day he stood in this living room. For so long it's felt like his home too—but now he can't help but feel like an intruder.
When he closes the door behind him, Hank and Tommy are watching the game, but you’re nowhere in sight. He tries to shake off his nerves, moves to the couch beside Tommy and sits down. At his brother's feet is a brand new pair of deer skin gloves, Tommy’s favorite—but hard to come by. He knows they weren’t cheap and his heart aches a little, knowing they’d worked hard to pull together the money.
“Glad to see you can pull yourself away for a few minutes. You know it ain’t goin’ anywhere, stay for a little while.” He knows that—the storm will be with them for four days and he knows there will be more snow to shovel tomorrow, but he can’t stay for long, not when your prying eyes finally detect him in your safe haven. “I’ll stay for a little while, still a lot to do out there.” He knows Hank is too old for that kind of work, Tommy’s too lazy and Joel wants nothing more than to escape. “Got you somethin’, been saving up for it for a while now.” He leans down towards the tree and picks up a rather large box—it’s not gloves thats for damn sure. “Sir, I…I didn’t get you nothin’.” He didn’t have the money, he spent every dollar he had to his name on a stupid necklace for his daughter that would rather see him outside in the freezing weather shoveling snow than on her couch in front of the fireplace.
Hank throws a hand, playing off Joel's concern with an amused huff. “You do so much for us around here without asking for anything in return. You had one when you got here but i know it got tore up taking the cattle to pasture.”
Joel rips the wrapping paper, revealing a simple white box with the word Stetson on the top. Joel doesn’t even want to open the damn thing, he knows what's inside and how much it cost, an arm and a leg, probably a month's saving in the off season. “Hank…”
The olde man shakes his head firmly. “You deserve to have the sun off your neck, son. Just say thank you, make sure it fits.”
He pulls open the box and inside lays a black felt hat with a matching band, beautiful leather work that loops into an ornate metal buckle to hold it in place. He pulls the cowboy hat from its box, puts it on his head and—it’s a perfect fit.
It's been a long time since he had a hat, a lot longer since he had a nice one and a lifetime ago since he had the money for a new one, especially one this nice. “I don’t know what to say—thank you, Hank…this really…means more than you know.” More than he knows how to convey with words. It’s been a long time since Joel had a hat that fit, one that wasn’t second hand or made for someone else’s head. But this—this was made for his head, the measurement must be damn near perfect. “How’d you know my size?” He wobbles his head around and the hat doesn’t budge, hangs on snuggly. He’ll even be able to ride with this on. “I measured your head while you were sleepin’.” Tommy tells him with a smug grin. “That's weird, Tommy. I would have kept that to myself.”
It draws a laugh out of Hank who has abandoned the game in favor of watching Joel's excitement. “Well, what are you waiting for—go check yourself out in the mirror, make sure you like it,” he stands and walks over to the mirror hanging on the wall above a decorative entryway shelf. When he spots himself in the reflection, he realizes just how long it’s been since he’s seen the man looking back at him. He’s graying in his beard a little, the age lines on his face have gotten deeper and more pronounced, but the black hat on his head makes that same man grin from ear to ear.
The stairs creek behind him and he turns half of his body to look up them. Stopped halfway down the stairs, you’re staring at him with a slightly slacked jaw. Joel knew it, Christmas jammies that leave your legs exposed to his greedy eyes. This time, he tries to keep them to himself. “Oh, uh…” he swallows down the lump in his throat and his pocket burns all over again. Should he give it to you now? Will everyone question him if he does? If he waits to get you alone, does that suggest that the necklace means everything he wants it to? A peace offering, an ice breaker, a “I’m sorry about the way I’ve treated you, but I want to try again.”
Instead, he leaves it in his pocket and tries to tamper down the way his cheeks heat. “Merry Christmas, Honey.” He tilts his hat up a tad so he can look up at you, but your slightly dumbfounded look morphs into irritation and discontent.
“What are you doing here?” You cross your arms and Joel’s good mood disappears. “Your mom asked me to come in and eat. Your dad wanted to give me this.” He points to the hat and your eyes roll as you make the descent down the rest of the stairs. “So if you’re in here, who’s taking care of the ranch?”
It isn’t often that someone sticks up for one of them in an argument, they tend to not get between the two of you, but to Joel’s surprise, Hank interrupts his daughter. “He’s allowed to come in the house, Honey—he works hard around here, he’s not a yard dog.” But that doesn’t stop you from sneering at him when you pass him on your way to the kitchen where your mother is. “Sure looks like one to me.” It’s under your breath so Hank doesn’t hear, but Joel does.
And he feels like a fool. A fool for spending the last of his money on this stupid fucking necklace, like a fool for being so plagued by thoughts of you in a different world, one where you don’t innately hate him, one where he doesn’t fuck up every chance he has to change the narrative.
“I should get back to it, I’ll see you guys…later.” He starts to head for the door when Louise pokes her head around the corner. “Please come in for Dinner!” Joel tells her that he will, he hates lying to miss Lou, but he does it because it’s Christmas and the last thing he wants to do is worry her today.
He wastes the day shoveling off the driveway, tries his best to rub out the crick in his neck and finally calls it a day when the sun is nearly set and the animals are bunkered down for the night. It’s started to snow again, so Joel makes his way back to the cabin with tired limbs and a new dusting of snow hanging onto the brim of his hat.
Dinner is just as lonely as the night before but this time he doesn’t pretend it's Lou’s cooking, he lets it be exactly what it is—a tasteless mush and his misery to sip on.
The Rifleman is just as predictable as it was the night before, as is Joel—who falls asleep before he has the heart to get his hands on his dick. But unlike last night, he doesn’t make it long propped up on the couch before a knock startles him awake. He drags himself to the door with sleep in his eyes and a chill in his bones. When he pulls it open, his pocket ignites again. On the other side of the door, you’re standing in front of him with a plate in your hands and a vicious storm letting down behind you. Did you walk here in that? “My mom said I chased you off, that’s why you didn’t come to dinner.” Well, you aren’t wrong. If you were still away at college, Joel would have no problem spending Christmas with Hank and Louise and Tommy who is apparently too good to walk you down here.
“You didn’t have to bring me anything.” He says. He glances to the side where his hat hangs on the rack. “Actually, my mom made me so no, I didn’t have a choice.” Ahh, of course—of course you wouldn’t do something that nice for him. “Well, thank her for me, then…” he reaches out for the plate and his fingers brush yours—bolts of electricity shooting up his arm and igniting his starved skin. It’s been so damn long since someone has touched him with kind hands and all he wants is yours—your soft, gentle hands he’s seen folding laundry and soothing horses. You don’t release the plate, but your eyes track up to his, meeting them across the threshold.
He could hold that gaze for the rest of his life if you’d let him—he’s always wanted a chance to get lost in your eyes and he’s getting it right now, his home pouring with cold in exchange for the heat in your cheeks and the sparkle in your irises. “Joel—“
There's a loud sound somewhere over the fence beside the cabin. It draws both of your attention to the blinding darkness. Joel knows that sound, a distressed heifer, probably the one who was too damn close to calving in a storm like this. There’s no way Joel can save that calf if it doesn’t make it and even if he wanted to, the snow is too thick to help.
“What is that?” You ask, finally dropping your hand away from his when you glance back up at him. “Heifer, think she’s calving—Tommy said she was really soft and her milk came in. Afraid that calf might not make it tonight.”
There's a look of disbelief in your eyes, shooting from Joel to the fence line and back. “You can’t help her?” Joel shakes his head and listens to the cow cry out again. “Nothin’ I can do for her. They aren’t supposed to be calving yet, we still have a few more weeks and it’s too cold out there. We might lose the heifer too.”
Joel observes the way sadness takes over your face, then determination. “I’m going out there to help her.” You tell him, already heading off the porch before Joel can even interject. “Don’t you hear me? She’s not going to make it, honey, just let it go.” But you don’t, you start to jog towards the fence line, so Joel huffs in annoyance and slips into his boots and jacket, finally pulling his hat on on his way out the door. He grabs a spotlight off the shelf by the door and follows your tracks through the snow to the fence line. It doesn’t take him long until he finds you, knelt behind a laboring cow, who’s already pushing in the freezing cold. “I can’t get this calf to safety and this storm is getting worse—it’s not safe to be out here.”
There's blood marring the white snow and your delicate hands. “I’m not letting her die in the snow on christmas because we made her have a baby, Joel—she didn’t ask for this.” Joel sets the light in the snow beside him and rolls his sleeves up, kneeling down beside you in the soaked snow. “She’s not going to make it.”
You make a face at him, one Joel is more than accustomed to. “I’m not letting her die alone, then.” And Joel isn’t going to leave you alone in the snow for a second time, so he stays there beside you, helping deliver the little black calf, who shivers wetly in the cold. It’s a little boy, floppy ears and a wobble to him when he tries to hold his head up. Joel can't help but smile, because this is always beautiful, even if he can't save this little calf. He looks up and you’re grinning right back at him, your cheeks bitten red by the cold and your hands shaking, but you look so fucking proud right now. Joel is too, after watching you pull that calf out of his momma like you were made for that.
“What if we get them inside, would they make it then?” Joel doesn’t see how, the snow is too thick and someone would have to carry him. “They wont fit in my cabin and the stable is a half a mile away. We’d have to drag momma through this snow.” He has a lead in the cabin, he could get her out of this snow, he thinks. Would she even want to go, after having a calf in the ridged cold. “We should try—we should at least try.”
Joel leans back and brushes the blood off on his pants. “Yeah—fine, we can try. Stay right here, keep rubbing him to keep him warm.” He stands and jogs back to the cabin, racing inside for the lead that he runs back to you with. You have the calf laid out along your legs while you rub his wet skin. “He’s slowing down. I can feel his heart slowing down.” He’s getting too cold out here—if Joel doesn’t act now, he won't make it, so he wraps the halter around the heifers head and hands you the lead. “Think you can pull her? She’s going to put up a fight.” You take the lead from him and nod, grabbing the light out of the snow while he picks the calf up under his belly. He makes a little sound at Joel while he starts to make his way through the deep snow.
It’s a long walk back to the stables, but you tug on that heifer and Joel carries the calf the entire way there, until he reaches the gate and manages to push it open just enough to get them through. He makes it to the stable doors in just enough time, throws it open and helps you inside. It’s not much warmer in here, but theres no snow and theres straw in the empty stable towards the back, so Joel makes his way over and lays the little calf down in the bedding. You’re right behind him with the heifer who takes straight to her baby once she has him in her sight again.
Joel plops down in the straw in the corner of the room once they are both situated, trying to catch his breath and warm himself up at the same time. He’s covered in blood, so are you, but you saved both of their lives and Joel has more respect for that than he knows what to do with. You risked your life out there for a baby cow and his momma.
“You did a good thing, out there. I’m sorry I didn’t want to listen to you.” You find a spot beside him in the hay and sink down, leaned against the wood wall with your shoulder pressed against his with how closely you sit. “You have every right to question me…you’re right, you know…I have no clue what I’m doing around here. Four years of school and the only thing I know how to do around here is the books, which is easy because were so broke.” Joel's heart aches for you, the sadness in your tone and the defeated look in your eyes. “I almost got us killed out there.”
Joel shakes his head and leans himself back against the wall too. “But you didn’t. You saved us a lot of money and saved his little life. I’d say that's a win.” He knows it doesn’t feel like one when everything else is coming down on your shoulders, but he can pretend it is for your sake. “Thanks, Joel.” You lean a little more, bumping his shoulder with a quiet yawn.
His pocket begins to burn again, but this time, it isn’t followed by the shame he’s felt all day. “I uhm…I hope it’s not weird, but I got you something…” he reaches into his pocket and starts to fish it out. “You didn’t have to do that,” you interject but he shakes his head. “I just saw it while I was at the feed store, thought of you.” He pulls out the blue box and holds it out to you. He tries not to read too much into the look on your face when you open the box, but he has to know. It looks like confusion, then shock and finally, sadness. “I was really rude to you this mornin’…and you had this in your pocket to give it to me?” You look over at him with big eyes, full of something Joel has never seen in them. “It’s alright—I deserved that.”
You shake your head and start to pull the necklace out of the box. “I called you a dog, Joel—you didn’t deserve that.”
He shrugs his shoulders, trying to rid both of you of the shame of that conversation. You hold the necklace up and admire it for a while, the little gold bee that’s going to lay against your chest, against your heart. You hold it out to him with a little quick of your lips. “Would you?” He takes it from you and you turn your back to him, using one hand to hold up your hair while he undoes the clasp and brings his hands around your neck, laying it around your delicate throat. It feels so intimate, sitting here in the hay beside a newborn baby calf in the middle of a snowstorm on christmas.
His knuckles brush against your neck gently when he does the clasp together, letting is hang from your neck, feels like a fucking brand on his skin. You turn back around, meet his eyes and smile carefully. There's a comfortable silence filling up the space between you, so Joel leans back against the wood and sighs to himself. “Let me walk you back to the house…it’s getting late.” His words are low and slow.
You nod at him and he stands, holding out a hand to pull you to your feet. He walks you out of the stables, through the blizzard and up to the porch of the big white house. “Where are you going?” You ask him when you get to the door. “Don’t know if I can make it back to the cabin in this. Might sleep out in the stable so I can keep an eye on the little guy.”
You don’t say anything, just stare at him for a long moment, then glance behind you at the warm house. “Come inside…Tommy took the guest bedroom but you can have the couch. It’s better than being out here in the cold.”
He wants to decline, but when will he get this opportunity again? To mend what's been broken between you? “Yeah—sure, that sounds better than straw poking me in the ass all night long.”
It makes you giggle and that makes Joel's stomach churn, his cheeks heat and his hands flex as he follows you inside. You get him a blanket, help him get situated in the low glow of the christmas tree in the corner.
When he kicks his boots off and settles down on the couch, you start to head for the stairs. He thinks you’re going to head up, but you pause at the bottom of the stairs before turning to look at him. “Thank you for helping me today.”
He hums, smiles and shakes his head. “It was my pleasure.”
There's another long silence, then you take the first step up the stairs. “Goodnight, Joel…Merry Christmas.”
He smiles back at you with tired eyes.
“Merry Christmas, Honey.”

Marcus Pike x f!reader
(there is no masterlist for this man, good luck to this man)
He's looking for something other than vanilla, and she is more than happy to provide such a service to him.
warnings | 18+ this is smut, pegging, rimming, sucking and fucking, sex work, lowkey sugardaddy!marcus, sweet shy marcus getting his world rocked, and then pancakes and a blackberry and a black american express card so ya know, the works.
a/n | this was written LAST MAY woof - i think originally it was supposed to be for the first round of the PMAMC (also woof) but she's here now :') special thanks to @idolatrybarbie and @wannab-urs for resurrecting this fucker. there is a part two... just sayin
..............................
The first thing she notices about him is that he’s nervous. He keeps loosening and tightening his tie, eyes glancing around in quick, anxious sweeps. He’s definitely never been here before, she would’ve remembered a face that handsome, strong jaw under a little scruff and big brown eyes that set a smile tugging at her lips when he finally meets her gaze.
“Hey there, handsome, welcome in. First time?” His eyes drop down to the floor, a clipped laugh coming out as she steps closer to him.
“Am I that obvious?” He rolls his bottom lip between his teeth, eyes crinkled in a shy smile that sets warmth spreading in her chest, bringing a delicate palm to his shoulder.
“Just never seen you around before, that’s all. What brings you to Pandora’s tonight?”
“Well, I, uh– I wanted to– um–” He cuts his own rambling off, jaw slack as he watches a man in head to toe latex walk by, being led on a leash by one of her coworkers.
“Hey, don’t worry about them. I wanna know what you want. Would you feel more comfortable talking some more in one of our private rooms?” Eyelashes fluttering, spine arched, she knows exactly how to reel them in, noting the dip and bob of his throat as he nods.
“I– yeah, um, yes please.” Manners, she likes that. She slips her hand down his arm, taking his hand before turning heel and tugging him down the dark hallway, taking them into one of the vacant playrooms. It’s one of the tamer rooms, a four poster bed in the middle, red silk sheets, and a dark chest of drawers off to the side full of all sorts of fun. She guides him to sit down on the end of the bed beside her, his hands immediately going to his thighs in a nervous squeeze. His eyes are still darting everywhere, but mostly to the tops of her breasts, pressed up in the strappy leather corset she has on, though he doesn’t let his gaze linger there long before jerking his eyes back up to her face.
“You don’t have to be nervous, baby. I just want to hear a little about why you came in, and how you’d like to be taken care of tonight, alright?” He nods, clearing his throat a few times before replying.
“I just– you gotta know that I’ve never done anything like this before, really. But, I don’t know, I guess I wanted to try something different? My, well my ex-wife, I think she thought I was too, um, vanilla. So I guess I want to– not be– um, vanilla anymore. And, Jesus Christ, you probably think I’m crazy, huh?” Somehow, he manages to still be handsome and look like a kicked puppy at the same time, and she has to resist the urge to push his flop of hair back and press a kiss to the crease between his brows.
“Not crazy at all. So when you say not vanilla, what does that mean to you?” When he gives her no answer, eyes only widening as he seems to wrack his brain for what to say, she laughs lightly, bringing a palm to his thigh and giving him a reassuring squeeze.
“Why don’t we start with the basics? Do you see yourself being more of a dom or a sub?”
“I– what does that mean, dom and sub?” Oh boy, more basic than the basics then.
“Dom is shorthand for dominant, that’s the person in control in the relationship, and they’re usually the one inflicting any pain, if you’re into that. And sub means submissive, that’s the person who follows the dom’s commands, who gets taken care of.”
“Oh, right, that makes sense. I mean, I don’t think I’d be very good at being in control like that, so I guess, more submissive?” I’ll say. She offers him a nod and smile, still trying to coax some of his anxiety out of him.
“Sounds good, handsome. If it’s alright with you, I can be your partner for the night. Let’s get some paperwork for you and then we can get started, ok?” He only nods, something she’s going to have to work on with him.
“For this to work, I’m gonna need you to always use your words with me, alright? That way I know exactly what you do and don’t like.” She says it to him over her shoulder as she rifles through the chest of drawers, getting out a waiver and a pen for him.
“Uh, yes, ok, I can– I can do that.” She sits back down beside him with a hum, passing him the paperwork, watching his brow furrow as he reads over it.
“That’s a list of kinks we do and don’t participate in. Are there any that you’re particularly interested in exploring tonight?” Another clear of his throat, keeping his eyes glued to the paper when he responds.
“Do men– do men really like that? I mean, I’ve heard of it, but, does it feel good?” She looks over his shoulder to where his finger is pointing, her lips crooking into a smile when she sees what’s caught his attention.
“Mmhmm, it can be very pleasurable, with an experienced partner, of course.”
“And you– are you, um, experienced?” Her smile broadens into a grin at his question, resting her hand on his shoulder.
“Oh baby, I’m very experienced. Is that something you’d like to try out tonight?” He seems to consider it, his eyes darting from her lips back up to her gaze a few times before he finally nods.
“Fuck it, yeah, I wanna do that. But is it ok if that’s the only thing we do on this list? I don’t think I’m really into the whole– chains and whips thing.” She laughs at that, giving his shoulder a squeeze as she nods.
“Whatever you want. Just need you to sign that waiver which basically affirms that we’re all clean here at Pandora’s, and you are too. You’re familiar with our pricing, right? It’s three hundred for an hour, and five for two.”
“Is it ok if I do two?”
“You’re the customer, honey. What you say goes.” With a decisive nod, he ticks the box next to two hours on the form, signing his name on the dotted line before handing her back the pen and paper.
“Nice to officially meet you, Marcus. You can call me Daisy, and I’ll be taking care of you tonight.” As she sets the paperwork down on the chest of drawers, he lets out a light laugh, drawing her attention over her shoulder.
“That’s not your real name, is it?” Stepping out of her heels, she pads back over to him, standing right between his legs, setting down the items she grabbed before guiding his hands onto her hips.
“It’s not, is there something else you’d like to call me for the night?” He takes a sharp inhale as she drags his hands from her hips, up and up until his palms are cupping her breasts through her corset.
“I, um– Daisy’s good, yeah.” Letting her hands fall away from his, his eyes search hers, obvious in looking for permission that she’s happy to give.
“You can touch me, Marcus, whatever makes you feel more comfortable.”
“Can I take this off of you?” His fingers are toying with the laced-up front of her corset, which she lightly bats away.
“It’s a little tricky, let me.” She makes deft work of unlacing the garment, a known path for her fingers that usually bores her, though there’s a little kick of something else, him watching her and the fine flicker of her hands. Marcus lets out a laugh at the grin she offers him, fizzling in his throat when she lets the corset fall away to reveal herself to him, standing before him in only her barely-there shorts. The heat of his hands just hovers over the swell of her breasts, and she can’t help the sigh that thrums in her throat when he finally lets his palms press against her skin. It’s not often that a client affects her like this, and she has to clear her throat to refocus on the real task at hand.
“Why don’t we get you out of your clothes? Sit back for me.” She’s undone dozens of ties, worked her fingers through miles of shirt buttons, and doesn’t even have to look to get trousers unfastened now, but she can’t shake the prickle running up her spine at the way his eyes follow every movement, and she can’t hide the shudder that runs through her when he tentatively tucks her hair behind her ear as she works his pants down his hips.
“Have you been doing this for long?” She shoots him a look from her spot between his legs, his pants discarded to leave him in just his briefs.
“Are you really trying to make small talk?” Oh, he’s blushing now. She likes that, crawling closer and dipping her head down to press a kiss to the center of his chest before dragging her lips up and up, catching at the bob in his throat before letting her mouth just hover over his, feeling the shaky pants of his breath.
“There’s no need for that, Marcus. I’m gonna take care of you now, and I need you to tell me what you like, and what you don’t, do you understand?” His voice comes out a little hoarse, and she can feel the thrum of it where her chest is brushing against his.
“Yes, I understand.” A grin is all she gives him, ducking down before his lips can meet hers as she lets her mouth drag a trail down his torso until she’s nipping at the waistband of his briefs.
“Can I take these off?” When all he does is nod, she gives his hip a light pinch, something between a laugh and a grunt jumping from his chest at the sensation.
“Yeah, you can take them off, I– sorry.” She smoothes her palm over the spot she pinched, smiling up at him.
“That’s ok, baby. Just remember your words for me.” He can’t be real, that’s all she can figure when she gets him totally bare before her, his cock a perfect pink that matches the flush on his chest, thick enough to set her jaw aching in anticipation, and long, pre-come smearing in the tuft of hair over his pelvis. She can’t help but wonder why the fuck anyone would ever want to leave him when he’s this pretty to look at.
“Can I touch you? Get you warmed up for me?” He’s propped up on his elbows to watch her kneeling between his legs, lips swollen from how much he’s been biting them, slightly parted in something like wonder.
“Yeah, yes, please.”
“Hmm, I like a boy with some manners. Just relax, Marcus, and remember, I’m here to take care of you.” With that, she presses a kiss just below his belly button, smiling against the twitch of his muscles before dipping down and letting her lips ghost over the underside of his cock. It’s involuntary, the hum she lets out when she takes him fully into the heat of her mouth, relaxing her throat like she’s learned to do, a necessary move in order to take all of him. And he’s perfect beneath her, thighs flexing under her splayed palms, low moans rumbling in his chest as she alternates between swallowing him down and lapping at his leaking tip. She knows she’s done her job, that she’s loosened him up, when those moans start to get a little louder, a little more drawn out, and he slumps down off his elbows to run a hand through his hair, eyes scrunched shut. A kiss over one hip, then the other, keeping her palm steady on his heaving belly while she reaches for the lube, his eyes squinting open to see why she stopped.
“You ever used lube before?”
“No, never needed to, I guess.”
“Well it’s gonna be your best friend tonight. I’m gonna warm a little up in my palms and then I’ll let you get used to the feel of it, ok?” He hums out an mmhmm, watching her hands rub in quick circles, his eyes following the subtle shake of her breasts with the movement. And when she gets her hands on him again, slicking her palm up his cock, a hiss slips through his lips.
“Sorry, is it still cold?”
“No, fuck– just feels really good.” She grins at that, letting her wrist flick, hand in an easy glide as she slips her palm down to cup the weight of his balls, his groan cracking and shooting up an octave, hips jolting at the sensation.
“Has no one touched you like this before, baby?”
“I– Jesus, no– no one’s done that before.”
“Well that’s just not right. Feels good, huh?” A little squeeze to punctuate her question sets another moan loose in his chest as he presses his head back into the sheets.
“Y-yes, feels really good.” She nudges his thighs open a bit more, letting her hand slip down lower, not pressing, but circling, gauging how he reacts as she keeps her other hand easily stroking his cock.
“Remember, need you to tell me what feels good and what doesn’t. We can stop at any time. Do you like what I’m doing right now?” His eyes are still shut tight, one hand fisted in his hair, the other tangled in the sheets, pleasure pulling his whole body taut.
“Yeah, I like it. It’s, hah– it’s different, good, different good.” His words go a bit slurred when she presses her finger forward, opening him up as he lets out another breathy moan.
He takes it well, whimpers and moans crackling in his throat as she starts a steady thrust, only pausing to work a little more lube over her hand.
“Doing so good for me, Marcus. You wanna try taking a little more?” He sits up on his elbows, surprising her a bit with his firm reply.
“I want more, want you to use that on me, please.” He tilts his head over to the strap laying on the end of the bed, once again catching her off guard.
“You sure you’re ready for that?” He tilts his head at her, a crooked smile on his face.
“Didn’t you say something about the customer always being right?” She lets out a real laugh at that, shaking her head at him as he just grins, clearly pleased with himself.
“I guess so. Alright, handsome, why don’t you get on your hands and knees for me? We’ll take it nice and slow.” He seems a bit taken aback by that request, his smile going a little slack as she gets off the bed to step into her harness, though he catches himself, clearing his throat and shifting around on the bed into the position she asked for.
She can’t help herself, getting back on the bed and kneeling behind him, laying a quick pat to his very cute ass that has him craning his neck over his shoulder to look at her.
“Sorry, just looks so good I had to give it a little tap. You ready for me?” He hums his assent as she slicks her fake cock in lube, bringing one palm over his low back in a reassuring circle as she scoots in closer.
“Just relax, Marcus, this is about you feeling good. That’s it, open up for me.” She works her strap in slow, curling over him to press her lips in a murmuring of praise into his shoulder blades as he whimpers beneath her, his hands fisted tight in the sheets.
“How’re you feeling, baby? Is it too much? We can go back to what we–”
“No, no. I just– just need a minute, fuck– didn’t think it’d feel this good.” She’s not being professional about this, she knows it too, but she doesn’t care. A professional would be checking the clock, making sure that he gets his before his time is up. A professional wouldn’t be laying kisses over his shoulders, whispering to him that he’s doing so good, that he can take it, that he’s so pretty like this. But nothing about the way she wants him right now feels professional, the way she wants to take care of him, to make him feel good, to keep him feeling good for as long as she can.
“Just say the word. I move when you want me to.”
Slow and smooth, nothing but patience and permission in how she fucks him, her hips slotting with his again and again and again, simmering down into a close press, her chest draped over his back and her hand working his cock in time with her thrusts when he finally unravels beneath her. He slumps down onto his forearms, a slur of curses punching out of his lungs as she runs her palms up and down his shuddering back. But what he does next is so unexpected she finds herself at the mercy of his movements. The moment she pulls her hips away from his, he turns over underneath her, still catching his breath as his hands find her hips, insistent and harsh in the way he pulls her down onto the bed. He’s certainly a sight, cheeks flushed and hair perfectly mussed up in every direction, his eyes blown dark and wide as he hovers over her.
“Can I take care of you now? Is that allowed?” A professional would say no, that his time is up, get him a towel and a glass of water and process his credit card.
She doesn’t say no.
He fumbles a bit with the straps of the harness, letting out an impatient groan that makes her giggle, quick to bat his hands away and make easy work of shimmying the whole thing down her legs. And the smile he gives her as she does is downright sheepish.
“That’s, uh, a bit tricky.” She brushes his hair back out of his face, thumb settling against the dimple in his cheek, a move that’s entirely too sweet and she knows it.
“Just a little. I’m all yours now though.” He doesn’t waste any time, ducking his head down to press a sweet kiss over the top of her breast that turns salacious when he slides his tongue down over the tight peak of her nipple, her back arching up into the heat of his mouth as he lets his teeth graze over the sensitive skin. His hands are splayed around her hips, greedy and insistent in the way his fingers curl and press into her ass, lifting her hips up to slide her tiny shorts off her legs before he settles back between her thighs, his nose brushing against her twitching stomach, dark eyes flickered up to meet hers.
“Is this ok? Can I taste you? Make you feel good like that?” He steals a move from her book when all she does is nod, his hand that’s still curled around her hip laying a gentle pinch to the swell, his grin going boyish as she huffs out a laugh.
“Can I have your words, Daisy, please?” She tilts her head at his shy question, enjoying the flushed flare creeping up his cheeks.
“Hmm, you’re a fast learner, huh? Yeah, baby, I want your mouth, Want you to make me feel good.”
It’s not that she had been expecting him to be bad at it. But she also hadn’t been expecting him to be so fucking good either. Head thrown back, thighs trembling around his scruff, moaning his name good. He’s not precious about it, licking a flat stripe through her cunt before letting his tongue catch on her clit in a harsh press, dipping back down to lap up the slick pooling at her entrance, a continuous circuit of pleasure that has every muscle in her body tensing up. He groans low in his chest when she rakes her fingers through his hair, tugging just a bit unkindly when his teeth graze her clit. One large palm snakes up to grasp at the swell of one of her breasts, his other hand pressed across her pelvis to keep her spasming hips still as he fucks her with his tongue, the strong hook of his nose dragging across her clit with each pass. And it hits her all at once, that snare of pleasure snapping hot and hard as she comes with a stilted moan of his name, her heel pressing between his shoulder blades, keeping him exactly where he is, and he continues to work her over as she comes undone on his mouth.
She tugs at his hair again when it becomes too much, her hips jolting at the thrumming chuckle he lets out when he finally pulls away, resting his cheek against her hip while she tries to catch her breath. They lay like that for a hiccup of time, just staring at each other, a dazed smile on his glistening lips that she knows is mirrored in her own hazy grin. Eventually she lets out a long sigh, reaching out for him and thumbing away some of her arousal that’s smeared across his jaw.
“Do you wanna, like, get a burger or something?”
“Is that– is that a part of my two hours?” “Oh baby, your two hours were up a while ago.”
He’s waiting for her right outside the club, and she mentally kicks herself for having worn sweats and a hoodie in for her shift earlier, though he doesn’t seem to mind, smiling big and broad when she steps outside to join him.
“I know you said burgers, but there’s a diner around the corner that does the best pancakes in DC. Sound good to you?” She likes this version of him too, confident, certain, a bit old-fashioned with the way he holds his arm out for her to take like they didn’t just wreck each other a few moments ago, letting her hold onto him the whole walk over to the diner, opening the door for her, the whole chivalric production.
It’s so late at night, they’re virtually the only people in the place, tucking into a cracked vinyl booth and putting in their order, pancakes and scrambled eggs and bacon, the works. And they share every last bite, having both clearly worked up an appetite after their evening together.
Though he’s vague about it, she can suss out for herself that he’s some sort of higher-up government type, she knows them well, and in turn, she answers his questions about her, that her work at Pandora’s is good enough to be supporting her through college, Marcus seeming to perk up when she tells him she’d like to be an art teacher one day. He’s older than her, at least enough to have already been married and divorced, but she can’t find it in herself to care about that, too busy enjoying their easy conversation, the subtle game of footsie they have going on under the table, and the way he smiles at her, all of his attention on her. It’s so strange, so different, so starkly contrasted to the way her nights usually go, not that she minds the simple rotation of disinterested clients, but she hasn’t had someone look at her, really look at her the way Marcus is, in quite a while.
“I have to admit, I wasn’t really expecting my night to end like this.” Plates long cleared, each of them nursing a mug of coffee as the first sweeps of dawn start to light up the streets outside, she smiles at his admission.
“Good surprise or bad surprise?” He grins at her question, leaning in on his elbows like he has the wildest secret to tell her.
“Really good surprise. I mean, I just think you’re– amazing. Fuck, is that weird of me to say?” She mirrors him, leaning in on her elbows, a smile threatening to quirk her lips.
“Hmm, no, it’s cute. For the record, I think you’re kinda amazing too.” Their faces are so close, and she realizes all at once that she hasn’t even kissed him yet.
“Only kinda, huh? Guess I didn’t do my job then.” She can almost feel the curve of his smile as she laughs at his simpering response, the sound getting swallowed when he closes the space between them, pressing his lips to hers. And he’s good at this too, his palm coming to cup her jaw, thumb stroking along her cheek as he deepens the kiss, licking into her mouth and nearly melting her on the spot. Though it’s over too soon for her liking when they get interrupted by someone clearing their throat in front of their table, pulling away to see the rather annoyed looking waitress setting their check down and shuffling away with a sour side-eye. She opens her mouth to protest when Marcus reaches for his wallet, but he waves his hand, black American Express glinting in the diner’s fluorescent lights.
“Don’t worry about it, baby, I’ve got it. It’s the least I can do after going over my two hours.” She can tell he means it as a joke, a flippant remark, but her stomach still sinks at even the suggestion of this still being a business transaction. It’s a sore spot for her, and though she’s more than comfortable with the work she does, her exes hadn’t been, nor had they been kind about it for that matter.
Busy signing the check, Marcus doesn’t notice the way her face falls, and she’s already out of the booth and halfway out the door of the diner when he finally calls out for her, further rubbing salt in the wound when the name he uses is Daisy.
“Woah, woah, hey, what happened in there?” The hand he hooks around her bicep is gentle but insistent, and she can’t help the tears threatening to spill over when he turns her around to look at him in the faint morning light.
“Look, if that’s all this is to you, just business, that’s fine, but I have enough respect for myself to not–” He cuts her off, bringing his broad palm to cup her cheek again, his eyes wide and unwavering.
“Hey, that’s not what this is– I mean, at least not anymore. We did meet under some, ah, particular circumstances. But this isn’t business to me now, if that’s ok with you?” He thumbs away her stray tears, and she nearly goes dizzy with the relief she feels hearing those words from him.
“I’m sorry, baby, it was a stupid thing to say, wasn’t even thinking.” Baby, it’s the second time he’s called her that. She’s never anyone’s baby, they’re always hers, but she likes it now, coming from him, finding herself smiling into his touch.
“I don’t want you to call me Daisy.” His eyes soften, smile tempering as he nods.
“Ok, what should I call you?” She tells him her real name, and with it, the last shred of her professionalism dissolves, and she doesn’t care one bit. He says her name like he’s rolling a hard candy around in his mouth, slow sugar in each syllable before he presses a kiss between her brows, lips trailing down to catch hers in a sweet smack.
“Can I see you again? And, definitively not as, um, as business?” It makes her laugh, how quickly he shifts between confidence and constraint. She likes both.
“I would really really like that, Marcus. Am I giving you my number or are you giving me yours?” His eyebrows shoot up his forehead, like he’s surprised she actually wants that, though he’s quick to catch himself, clearing his throat and smiling.
“Uh, both? Both is good, right?” They swap phones, and she can’t help thinking to herself that of course this man has a Blackberry, stifling a giggle as she types in her number.
“Can I walk you to your car? It’s back at the club, right?”
“Oh, I don’t have a car, actually. Just take the bus to get around.” He doesn’t seem to like that, lips pressing into a thin line as he looks at her.
“How about I get you home this morning? Would that be ok?” Under any other circumstances, she wouldn’t dream of getting into the car of a man she just met, but seeing as she’s already broken a dozen of her cardinal rules with him, she doesn’t think twice about getting into his sleek BMW that’s still parked outside the club. He keeps a palm splayed just above her knee, thumb idly swiping back and forth, a soothing lull as she gives him directions toward her apartment complex. She hates to admit it to herself, but she’s a bit reluctant to get out when he does pull up to her building, leaning over the console for a kiss that he willingly gives her.
“So I’ll call you?” She lays a kiss to the small patch in his scruff, smiling against his skin when he lets out a huff.
“I’ll answer. Thank you, Marcus, for a really nice night, and morning.”
When she gets inside her apartment, she slumps back against the door, blowing out a long exhale and shaking her head.
“Fuck.” Her boss is going to kill her, but she doesn’t really care.
